this guy is very entertaining he will keep you on your toes, and interested in all the hard stuff, he makes philosophy easy

Salbato is one of the best teachers out there, I really enjoyed his class, I was fascinated by the lectures and he is VERY entertaining. Lots of writing but lots of movie watching too.

I absolutely love taking Jeff's classes. He makes the subjects very interesting and is not one of those professors that makes you just regurgitate what they want to hear. He makes you think-but you have so much fun doing it, you won't even notice! He's very down-to-earth and on our level vs. those uptight, intimidating teachers. I'd recommend him to anyone! You might start out taking a class of his because you have to, but you'll end up taking classes just 'cuz he teaches it!

Great teacher. Really interesting, has a fun way of teaching. Tells goofy jokes, has a self depricating sense of humor, as well as making a ton of New Mexico jokes. Logic & Critical Thinking can either be the worst class you'll ever take, or it can be fun, and it is completely dependant on the teacher. If you take it with Salbato, its going to be fun. Period.

Jeff is one of the coolest instructors I have ever had. I definitely recommend his class to everyone. He makes a somewhat mind-numbing (by people who have taken a philosophy course)subject fun and very interesting.

He is a very good teacher very helpful and clear but very goffy. As long as you go to class you will get an A for sure. At first it seemed like the class had a lot of work but it was very easy and ended up being less work than other classes. His grading is great everything is points and as soon as you reach 90 points you have an A.

Logic and Crit thinking sucks but Jeff made it digestable. You have to be in class to get the work. The info I will use again in life. He took me from my comfort zone to an unnatural place and I learned. I had a hard time but I learned he is wonderful. I like that you can talk to him if you need to and I needed to bad.

Everything in that class is interesting and i would take it again just so i can watch kids act as though they know everything in the universe and see Jeff bring them back to reality.

If you're looking for an easy class, this one isn't for you. If you're looking to make yourself smarter, then this class is perfect. The material is really challanging but Jeff is awesome at explaining it so that everyone understands. It's not hard to get a good grade if you pay attention though and you'll actually learn something

Tough concepts that I cannot imagine enduring without Jeff's antics. He has a fair grading system so if you attend the classes and shut your cell phones off long enough to pay attention you will do fine and walk out smarter than when you went in.

He is by far the greatest teacher you'll ever have if you take his class.This isn't one of those "required classes" type of feeling. He really gets inside your head and makes you think outside the realm. If you don't do good in his class, it's because you're lazy. Trust me, his class is worth taking.

He is a great Prof and knows his subject very well. He's extremely entertaining and will spend extra time on subjects if needed. His test are funny. Also, he doesn't make you buy the expensive textbook which is great. All the reading is online. He makes it hard to get a bad grade

I took Jeff for PHIL 1110/1156. The 1110 is a lot of work, not very easy but well worth the work! 1156 is much easier, basically you show up and get an A. Jeff knows the material and it great at explaining everything. Very down to earth guy. Just don't call him by his last name: you call him Jeff or Master Master.

I took his Intro to Philosophy course, which is a lot of work but very interesting. He does not require you to purchase a textbook (his readings are online). He is hands down the best professor I have had so far!

I have had many teachers over the years, some were terrible, some were excellent, and most were good. Jeff, undoubtedly, is one of the best teachers I have ever had the pleasure of learning from. jeff is a great guy. even though he kinda like a sassy mr. rogers, he is genuinely nice and wants to help people understand the material. hw is extra credit and in class open note quizzes make up about 90% of the grade. the class was an easy A with a good professor.

Jeff is my hero. 350 characters is really not enough. Homework is beyond reasonable and the classes overall are mentally challenging, yet manageable. Grading system is brilliant, and humor is sprinkled throughout. I finished the class early and still went back just for the sake of learning more. Whether you need the credit or not, take his class!

I have had Jeff for 4 classes now. One of the greatest professors I've had. Is opinionated, and will share his opinions but is open to argument. Has the best grading system, fast responds to email, and is overall friendly and helpful.

Took his "Understanding Evil" course because it sounded interesting. I could not be more happy with my choice. He makes you think and enlightens you to different views. The class had a lot of reading but it was all interesting. Easy A if you do what is expected of you! Take any class you possibly can with him and you wont regret it!

Intro to Philosophical Thought is a class that everyone should take, whether they "need" the class as a pre req or not, this class is life changing. Jeff is the best.

This class should be called "Communist Philosophy and Why America Sucks". he claims to want healthy debate in his class, then turns passive aggressive. However, it was an easy class if you stay in step, and just agree with everything he says. Not exactly the open minded, philosophical experience i was expecting.

Jeff really knows the material and he is passionate about what he is teaching! He makes it enjoyable and is hilarious with his sense of humour (immature & self-depricating). The material can be some-what confusing, but Jeff does well in clearing it up. I really came out of this class with a changed perspective and self-awareness.

Go to class on time,do your reading and homework get an A. Your grade is earned through points and everyday you earn points so attendance is key to success. It's easy to fall behind in this class especially if you miss class, it can be hard to catch up. Jeff is willing to help you if you need it. Your answer is almost always wrong, it's okay.

CNM Westside has some great professors. Jeff and Scott Whitlock in Geography are two of the best professors I ever had. They both changed how I see the world and I am better for it. They both have philosophy backgrounds and are smart as hell.

Read, text book not required, he likes to hear your views, mind blown, open your eyes and ears and prepare to have your world changed in front of you. Be open, be humble, come to class

Jeff is awesome and so is his Intro to Philosophy class. If you go in open minded you will learn so much and will see life in a different way. No he does not assign a lot of reading considering we are in COLLEGE and a couple readings per week is nothing. People get offended by the things he says because they don't like the truth. AWESOME class!!

Most important trait? Love/kindness. People guided by that correct intention? Best possible world. Love + other positive traits make the force of that love that much stronger (eg intelligence). Jeff: huge heart + beyond brilliant positive change in the world. He kindly reveals truth to influence you into a fulfilling life of integrity.

Jeff's class has inspired me in various ways. He is an amazing and brilliant human being with hilarious comments and thorough lectures to help students understand the readings. I have decided to take his other classes just for the fun of it because i enjoyed this class so much. Attendance isn't mandatory, but needed to fully understand concepts.

This man right here is beyond the most incredible professor I have had. Yes theres a lot of reading and writing but thats all left for you on your own time. Class time was mostly filled with the most in depth, interactive, creative, productive class discussions. He will always play the devils advocate in any discussion to really make you think!

Real world language in a philosophy class! Interactive, animated, and hilarious instructor. Jeff got us thinking about what we are doing, and why... all while laughing through class. Emails are due Sunday nights and there are two exams all semester. No textbook.

Cares a lot about the students and explains concepts until clear. There are quizzes everyday but they aren't long or confusing.

Talks a lot, but people are encouraged to throw in a joke. He has a lot of reading to do, two quiz a week but always just two questions on the reading. Every week reading questions due online. It is a point grade system. An 8 to 10 page paper is due a few weeks before the the end of the term, and then a final. He has extra credit. No book needed.

As a graduate student, years after Jeff's classes, I still locate him as the professor who "changed the game". To all those who still continue to learn and grow from such a devoted teacher - go forth and be a light!

Jeff has to be one of my favorite (if not my favorite) instructors I've had so far. I hate to see the class end. The grading system is a little weird (at least in his Logic & Critical Thinking course), and he grades individual tests very harshly in my experience, but it doesn't seem like getting an overall decent grade is difficult.

Jeff is hilarious! If you want an exciting teacher, please, do not hesitate to get a seat in Jeffs philosophy class. Literally, the guy could be a comedian. He is also very smart! You will learn philosophy in a low-stress environment. There is a lot of difficult readings, but dont be intimidated by it. Work hard and youll get a good grade.

Jeff is a great professor! Its my first philosophy class and I want more! Very linaint but gives your more than enough to read. If you hate english and dont like to read i don't recommend the class. Excellent teacher, although the entire class is lecture based so it gets boring sometimes. Quizzes every single class period, this are needed for the only other grades are from the mid-term and final draft. Readings are long and difficult at times to get through, but the questions that will be on quiz are on the syllabus.

I've taken Jeff for 2 philosophy classes and would again, amazing guy/easy to talk to makes class easy to understand. You have daily quizzes on reading/question materials which are easy cause your given what he will ask on quiz. You build up points to whatever grade you want and if your happy with your grade you don't even have to take final.

Jeff is great. He makes a lot of cheesy jokes, so be prepared, but it makes class pretty fun. He gives everyone a chance to get an A, usually giving you a large margin for error. As long as you study you'll get a good grade.

Jeff has such a good online format. Every week, work is due on one day. He has all the assignments uploaded before hand (minus quizzes). As long as you do the reading and take notes for the quizzes, you will get an easy A. His lectures are very lively and keep your attention. He provides reading questions that you can fill out prior to taking quiz.

Jeffs class was one of the best I have ever taken. He seems to be a really nice guy and you can see how much he enjoys teaching. The readings can be difficult but he thoroughly explains them in the lecture videos. Everything is due on Fridays and as long as you take notes from the lectures, the quizzes aren't too bad either.

He's one of the most passionate prof in CNM. You have to watch the lecture videos to thoroughly understand the texts he provided. No textbook needed. Take some notes, it helps a lot. There's opportunity for extra credit. He's hilarious, a great instructor. Hands down, would take his class again. I love his ideas and opinions tbh.

Jeff was such a great teacher. Every week we had a reading and then a quiz on it in class. The quizzes were easy, and usually only 1-3 questions. There were a few big quizzes, but he provided reviews and they were easy if you pay attention in class. I would absolutely recommend taking a class with Jeff. Hes very funny and I always enjoyed it.

I've never had such a great experience that I thought I'd have to come leave a rating but honestly he's great and I plan on taking more classes with him next semester. He has his own website that is so much easier to use than bright space and makes everything so much simpler and easy. Plus he is such a nice person and I haven't even met him.

Jeff was a wonderful teacher. His energy and teaching style will stay with me for years. He runs things completely different from a "normal" teacher. I really think that everyone can take something away from this experience even if the class is just taken for fun.

One of the few educators whose passion shines through the material. Very clear grading rubric, cant fail if you put in the work. Professor Salbato is engaged, responsive, and just a really friendly guy. This class is not for those who are overly sensitive or offended easily as his examples are....unorthodox, but effective. Would take again.

I took Jeff my first semester of college, he did not disappoint! Very very easy to learn from, he is so excited to teach and that is something you don't see a lot..He is very funny, beware of homework with words like "herpes."He is a very fair grader, if you are a teachers pet good luck with Jeff. Very intelligent man, he is an amazing professor!

Jeff is hands down the best instructor I've ever had. He will have you thinking about life in a whole new way and help you prioritize what you value most in life if you let him. I would recommend any course of his to anyone that wants to find deeper meaning in something. He's hilarious and keeps the content interesting and engaging.

Take good notes. Really helps to have concepts and terms defined for the quizzes. Jeff is a nice guy, maybe too nice. Sometimes people in the back, for example, carry on loud conversations and need to get yelled at. Hopefully your class is more polite.

Jeff was one of the best teachers I have ever had. His class was also one of the best I've ever taken. The reading is short. His lecture videos are long, but they are informative and funny! He gets back to you pretty quickly for any questions. His heart is definitely in his job and it shows. Thanks, Jeff!

Hands down, one of my favorite teachers and classes I've had. I genuinely enjoyed the lectures and learned a lot from every single one. I appreciate everything I learned. He and his class inspired me to make positive changes in my life, and sparked interest in new subjects. It's obvious he's passionate and it's contagious!

Some of his examples and assignments were confusing for me personally but he clearly puts a lot of effort into his class and into teaching, which made me more motivated to put in effort in return. Would definitely take again.

His class was a lot of fun. The lectures were all really insightful and entertaining too. Would recommend if you're unfamiliar with philosophy and want a fairly laid-back introduction (though not a completely easy one. There's a lot of reading).

This professor is tough but such a great teacher. If you don't understand something, there are multiple channels for clarification. I never had to wait longer than 24 hours for a response. He is a tough grader, but he wants to make sure you understand what you're reading. I wish I was perusing philosophy so I could take another of his classes!

I took Jeff's Intro to Philosophy class out of curiosity and loved it. The readings were always interesting and though there were a lot of lecture videos to watch, they were very thorough and informative while being funny and entertaining. Jeff's passion for philosophy is contagious and I was so inspired by this course. Best professor I've ever had

Jeff is the best professor I have ever had. The way the class is structured is extremely organized and makes you want to learn. He posts youtube videos for lectures and they are easy to understand and are helpful. Jeff knows how to teach.

Professor Jeff's philosophy class was awesome! The lectures were engaging, and he makes the material genuinely interesting. Using Unstuck ai and taking good notes helped me ace the quizzes. Overall, a great class!

I could go on for hours about how amazing this man is he's an amazing teacher and person. I beg of you take this class its life changing and amazing and perfect.

Jeff is one of my favorite instructors at CNM. His class is extremely fun while managing to be incredibly informative. I feel so much more capable going into everyday life with the skills learned in his reasoning and critical thinking course.

This Professor is my new favorite friend and teacher! His class was very difficult but with his help, I don't think anyone got lower than a B. Most of us ended with A's though for comparison. His lecturing was very easy to understand, he gave the best study guides called reading questions to help you better know what to look for in the readings.

Jeff was a fantastic teacher. I really wish I took him in-person because he was just that awesome of a teacher. His lectures were funny and concise. I took him twice, once for logic and once more for intro to phil. I really liked how he split up theory and examples, something that I take into my math classes. If you need a humanities, take him.

Jeff was an amazing teacher. I had a hard time understanding some topics but if you try even a little bit in this class you will pass. Lots of stuff to read but it's mandatory so you know what to put on the weekly quizzes. He is a great guy and great teacher and answers any questions you may have without judgement.

I took his class spring of last year. I cannot recommend his class enough, and get so excited when other students at my school are taking his class (dual-credit.) He has built in extra-credit, because it's a tough course, but if you're at all a thinker, then this is the class for you. Still my favorite college class that I've taken so far.

I took Jeff's Introduction to Philosophy and Logic and Critical Thinking courses a few years ago. Needless to say, his courses really make you think, and they have stuck with me all these years, even now after graduating with a BS. The coursework is challenging but informative, and I highly recommend his courses. He is one of the best at CNM!

Jeff knows his stuff and is a knowledge nerd. He will challenge you, but it is worth it! He is easy to contact and is supportive if you are struggling. I reached out to him for help on a topic for a different class, even though I wasn't his student at the time, and he answered my questions better than the professor of the class.

I highly recommend Jeff as a professor. His class is easy but still very engaging. He is clearly passionate about what he teaches, and his enthusiasm rubs off on his students. All around, a very cool dude.

Jeff's class had good content but became overwhelming. His lectures started well but I eventually lost focus. He gives examples of answers instead of individual feedback, making improvement difficult. He only allows a 24 hour window to submit assignments and does not accept late work

So he told me not to grow up to be a philosopher! So I became a philosophy major anyways and I don't have any regrets! He was right on many things and allowed me to find the truth. Finding happiness is always a challenge when seeking knowledge. I still talk highly of him and kept all my assignments, notes, lessons, essays etc. Thank you, Crystal.

I took this class in Spring of 2024. I LOVED this class. I also just love philosophy, so I might be biased, but I found Jeff hilarious & he was more than willing to give me some philosophical advice through email. In my opinion, the reading can be a little dense until broken down through lecture, so expect to take good notes on those.
