Slightly intimidating at first but tells wonderful stories and knows alot.

I love this teacher. he's one of the few that can actually keep my interest. To ace his tests, read the chapters. Especially the review at the beginning and end of each chapter. Lots of interesting stories too.

This professor knows his stuff, if you want to *learn* not just get through the class this is definitely the professor to get!!!!

This man knows what he's talking about, and he tells great stories of his Police officer days! The way he grades is a bit different, but if you try hard, and come to class, you will do fine!

Didn't mind class when I went because he's a fun professor. However, the 100 point class with every 7 points being a letter grade needs to go; if he wants a harder scale, he needs to give us more points.

Tells lots of good stories. Go to class, read the book, use the study guide, and the class will be super easy. He grades all his papers extremely easy.

Good teacher with good examples to use in class, a bit arrogant but what do you expect from a former state. He keeps it interesting though.

Interesting Class; NOT A WALK IN THE PARK W/ STEFFEL, but he's a fair teacher, and knows his stuff. Grades hard, but put forth the effort and he'll notice it!!! You will fight for an A though.

Steffel is a good prof. His class isn't an easy A but if you do the work and put forth effort he makes it a very interesting class. His test are tricky but he makes it easy for students to learn! I'm taking him again...

Steffel has great stories I learned more than any other professor. His tests are very tough, but it you read the book and do what he says you will do fine. Classes are A LOT of fun too.

Hard Tests!! Awesome guy! he will help you out of you ask. He has interesting lectures. Make sure you read your cases BEFORE class. You have to earn your grade in this class, he will not give it to you. Highly Recommended!

Hard grader, hard teacher. He is a wonderful guy though, always willing to help. You have to work in that class and read the material before each class. Taking notes are important to do well on the test. He means well and I will miss him!

He is so is the best prof I hae ever had. I wish he taught more. Very Fair, tests are hard, but his gradig scale makes sense. We should know atleat 70% of the material. Ok I dont type half as retarded as it made it seem. He does rule, tests are only hard if you dont pay attention or read the book. He is very friendly and knowledgable. Best CJ prof ever.....plus you know, the whole drove an Audi thing...

He's a good speaker, and instead of just presenting the textbook, he adds lot of fascinating stories from his background as a lawyer and Michigan State Trooper. If you miss class, you miss a lot of extra information and valuable insight. Very interesting course. I really looked forward to going.

Prof. Steffel is awesome. He is such a great guy and professor. His tests are only hard if you don't know what you are talking about. He is a good guy to talk to in and out of class, tells great stories (hilarious and a bit scandolous sometimes!). I take his class whenever I get the chance. Wonderful human being.

Best class I have ever taken! I was scared going into it because I heard some bad things, but seriously I would take him for every CJ class if possible. Yes he wants you to know your stuff, but he has great stories, and is always using examples so that way you understand it.

Steffel is the model of what a CJ professor should be. He has experience in law enforcement as a police office and lawyer. Class was easy but his grading scale was hard. 70% was an F. Most information could be found in the book if you chose not to attend class although I always went because Steffel was very intertaining and knowledgable.

Best teacher that I have had at GVSU. Knows what he is talking about and very willing to help students. I took every class that I could of his and was very disappointed to know that he did not teach anymore.

Prof Steffel is an excellent CJ professor. He has so much experience with the system and he teaches through that. He does not just outline what is in the book. He helps you to apply it to many different situations. Very funny and great story teller. Never a dull class.

Tuff Prof. Great teacher and storyteller. if your looking for an easy A, find another class. if your looking to learn the subject, he is an excellent prof. no paper, except extra credit. final is cumulative. Nice guy too.

Professor Steffel was an overall good teacher. He is clear about what he expects from his students. every teacher says it is possible to get an A in their class, but the syllabus might scare you away. This class was easier than i thought it would be if you do the readings and study for the exams from both the book and the lecture.

Great professor, very smart. Most knowledgeable prof I have ever had when it comes to con/crim law. Recommend him to anyone who wants to learn. Tests are on a curve, case study papers are easy points. Fun and has a sense of humor.

People don't like him because his classes require effort. Big deal, this is college. I thought he was awesome, he is an extremely fun, nice, and intelligent guy! You have to study/read to do well, but worth it because you can learn a lot from him.

This was my third semester with Steffel. He is a tough professor, no doubt about it. He is great for those students who want to learn in a more self-directed way. No attendance points or worthless little assignments - just tests. YOU HAVE TO READ AND KNOW THE TEXT! Interesting lectures (important for 3 hour night classes). Learned a lot...

Great Professor. He really knows his stuff. I will take class with him again. He is a tough professor, definitely not an easy class. Class is very interesting, and I really enjoy going to class. Don't let his syllabus scare you. He's a really nice guy who will help you learn. Don't take this professor if you don't want to work though.

The people who say he is the worst professor out there are the ones who didn't do well in his class. They didn't want to put forth the effort to do well so they got poor grades. This is not a class for people who want an easy A. If you want to learn take this class. It will take effort for you to get an A but the class is well worth it. I recommend

What a fun class! I looked forward to it everyday! He grades on a curve and if you study the topics he tells you to before the class, you will do just fine. He also offers extra credit. And tells the BEST cop stories! I highly recommend him!

Great professor!Not an easy class. But was definitely my favorite class, great professor very personal. Read the book and you'll be fine almost all of the test questions are in the book.

Great class, teacher knew what he was doing and gave you exactly what was on the test before you took it. Willing to help students, you need to read the book to do well in the class though.

Great prof, great stories, but you have to do work...read the book for the tests (and don't leave the reading all for the night before the exams like i did = late nights). He also tries to tell you a lot of the stuff you can expect to see on the exams. They are hard, but curved
