HE WAS A GOOD SPEECH TEACHER. HE TOOK A LOT OF THE PRESSURES OFF OF YOU THE SPEAKER. I WAS NERVOUSE TO TAKE THIS CLASS, BUT IT HAS TURNED OUT TO BE FUN.
Horrible teacher, horrible curriculum and expecatations are unreal for anyone that is employed even part time. If you work and or have kids, do not take his distance learning course. It's the worst distance learning class I've come across after many yrs of taking them! I would NEVER recommend him
This was one of the worst classes I took. He grades hard and I feel he was not very helpful towards me. I worked really hard in this class and came out with a "C". Speech should not be a hard class.
I got an A in his leture class. 3 assignments where you had to speek infront of the class. 1st you literally just read a story infront of the class. 2nd one you are with a partner and they interview you so you aren't up there alone. 3rd you spoke infront of the class for 7 min about anything you wanted to. Also grades on attendance & easy quizes.
Jeff is a descent teacher. He gives very very easy tests, just come to class and you will get A's. The speeches are relativly easy and he is plessant to work with. So if your looking for an easy A, this is your class( by the way, you won't even need to get the book for this class, because you will pass the tests if you just show up and take notes).
At first he seems pretty stiff. As long as you follow his rules you'll do well, all reasonable requests. Would take again.
His reviews were absolutely useless...it would help if the info on the test was actually on the reviews...especially in his distant learning class since we rely on those to help study...can't say I recommend him as an instructor...should have been an easy and fun class.
took his online interpersonal comm class. has two weekly online quizzes directly from book. very easy to do--vocab quiz is 20 min. & short answer quiz is not timed. has online unit pre-tests and study guides. no chance for extra credit, & will not budge on deadlines. otherwise, a fairly straightforward, easy class with an interesting textbook.
He has a strict attendance policy. There are a lot of vocabulary quizzes. He's extremely unflexible and boring. Interpersonal Communication should not be as dull and pointless as he makes it. However, he's a nice guy and his class isn't hard.
I wrote the previous negative review midway through his class. I've now decided he's not that bad. It's a pretty boring and easy class, but it's not unpleasant and he's nice enough.
LOTS of busy work (2 quizzes weekly. Unreasonable expectations if you do anything besides school. Tests are hard but not unmanageable. I tried VERY hard to keep an A average all semester and blew it on the last test. Ended up with an 89.4 which is a B because he offers NO extra credit or leniency. Would NOT recommend this teacher for this class.
DL class. Many items on open book quizzes and regular tests are worded ambiguously. There are 24 quizzes, 12 other HW assignments yet 3 reg tests are 60% of grade. Insufficient feedback for online class. Found overall design of class and test questions VERY frustrating. Unnecessarily complicates what should be straight-forward. Wouldn't recommend.
I took this class online and found it to be very interesting and enjoyable. The quizzes and tests are very straight forward from the book. As long as you do the readings and do the quizzes, you should be able to make an easy A in this class. Anyone who says this class is hard does not study at all.
Best thing about taking this is never having to go to class and make a speech. The tests were hard,I almost failed a few but came out with a B. If you hate speeches like me then you'll put up with the online work and fairly hard tests.
Took this class Distance Learning. I work 40 hours plus a week and take other classes. The text is super easy to read, even if it did seem liberally slanted some it was still engaging and entertaining. The quizzes and exams were easy. If you cannot get an easy B in this class, then there is no hope for you in this world.
Not real super crazy about the Teacher's ambiguous questions on tests / quizzes. I actually liked the book. It was up to date and not stuffy. I took Distance class & made several flashcards for a B. Study that book!
Professor Stringer speaks in a very monotone voice so make sure you drink your share of caffeine before the class. Review the chapter summary for each section and you will get an A in the class. And he is a stickler for attendance. Overall a good class, just remember the RedBull!
Dr. Stringer is very helpful in person. I took Interpersonal DIL, it was very frustrating as he has quizzes due during the week, which conflicted with work & the wording of the quizzes, especially the "Case Study" ones, were ambiguous, which brought my average down drastically. Otherwise, I learned a lot.
I took this course online & found it to be easy. Know the definitions and it will help you understand the concepts illustrated by the type of questions asked. Practice tests are available through Blackboard as well as the book's website.
I took his DL course. Very straight forward, quizzes every week.. just make sure you understand the vocab. The book is very intresting. Overall good class.
Took his DL course and it was pretty easy except the Short answer because he wants you to explain it in his words and not your own. after questioning him on one answer i recieved failing grades on all the short answers after...now i made a 79.84 and he refuses to let me earn my .16 pts for my "B".
Very easy class. I took it as an 8 week DL class. Tests are multiple choice, alot of the questions are common sense and if you read the chapters it's an easy A. You can use the book during quizzes. For the case studies you read a short paragraph and answer 5 questions. I never had to communicate with the professor so I'm not sure what he is like.
Very easy class. The only thing is when you do your case studies it's kind of difficult to know sometimes exactly what he is looking for. You have a total of 5 questions each worth 5 points. In order to get 20 points for each study, then be very specific when answering questions. And give examples. His test are easy and the quizzes are open book.
The class should have been easy. The textbook material is interesting. The case studies are what got me. After emailing him to see exactly what he wanted my grade improved. Would not recommend his teaching style.
This class should be easy. The textbook has interesting information. Oh, and there is no extra credit work ever! He tests on things that are so "by-the-book", that unless you have a photographic memory, you will not get a good grade! I wish I knew about this site before I registered for his class. I would not recommend his online class at all!
I took his 5.5week online class and got an A. The book is very easy to read and if you read it you will pass the class. The case studies are easy too, just write 3-5 sentences answering the question as fully as possible. Simple. Can use book with quizzes. Quick w/ answering emails. No extra credit. Study vocab 4 test. Homework can be time consuming
I took Mr. Stringer's hybrid class. Half of the work was online all open book super easy! And the other half is in class you just have to do 2 presentations in the whole semester. He is very funny also I enjoyed his class a lot and would recommend him!
Took his online class, read the book and never had a problem with his case studies, quizzes, or tests. You can use your book for quizzes and case studies and the book is an interesting book, easy to read and follow.
I thought he did a great job in class! Anyone could easily make an A in the class, just make sure to show up, do online hw, and follow his instructions 100% on speeches and there shouldn't be any issues. I slacked off a bit with attendance and that is why I made a B.
Strong reading comprehension skills is required in order to pass his exams.(word per word) There are no study guides, not very much feedback on case studies. Quizzes are ok.
So, I would have given him a good rate IF his quizzes weren't the things that kept me from getting an A in that class. His quizzes are SO word-for-word that if you miss a single detail, you immediately lose the point, and it doesn't help that there are only 30 pts. I'm an A student, going to get a B in that class now...and for a speech class.
Th ematerial and quizes are ok but in the quiz becareful to put a lot of details bc if you ommit a word for him you are ommiting an entire concept. I feel that the peace of the class was ok but the structure was not since there was no chance for extra credit and if you miss any assignment your grade will drop considerably. This was my 1st b ever :(
Took his hybrid course. Fun and simple, Good class, good professor. You will have no problem if you take Stringer.
Great communication and clear requirements. Graded assignments promptly. You will absolutely need to read the material assigned to do well on the quizzes and other assignments but they are not hard if you take your time and hit all of the keywords. Very fair grading. I would recommend this instructor highly.
Very interesting class and professor. Good class.
Very easy and highly organized syllabus. I was able to keep track and meet all deadlines. Used book on quizzes and case studies & film clips were relative to the material. Highly recommended prof
This class is an easy A if you just do your job. There are weekly quizzes and reflection assignments based on the reading and 2 skills assessment . The final is of course a speech that's often seen as intimidating but it's not as bad as people think. The professor gives his lectures in a loud and clear voice. I would recommend professor Stringer.
I took his hybrid class loved this class. There is a quiz and reflection assignment after each chapter easy A.
Easy A. Took the hybrid class and there were only 2 to 4 assignments a week. Just do your job and turn in your work on time and theres no reason you shouldnt get an A. Only one speech in the very end and two other small speaking assignments. Transferable credit also
Distance Learning course. For a communications course, there is almost zero actual communication. Chapter quizzes, video reviews, case studies, two videos of yourself that you upload to Youtube, and a final analysis. Extremely specific grading. Takes points off if not exactly word-for-word from the book. Feedback, but no opportunity to discuss.
Online class was a breeze. I was able to get through it very quickly (about half a semester) in order to focus on my other classes. Definitely recommend taking it online with Prof Stringer.
I really enjoyed this class, yes its not like other in-class communication courses but this one allowed enough time to do multiple classes. I would take this class again honestly. Plus he's a great professor.
I was originally shy about taking Speech / Communications. Thoroughly enjoyable textbook! Thoroughly enjoyable and applicable homework! Don't miss deadlines and mistake his generosity for weakness in his teaching ability. I took a lot away from this class. DEFINITELY got my money's worth. You will use what you learn in this class!
Felt like he set up the course well, many assignments were fun and I did learn useful things. Had no personal contact with him (didn't need), but from announcements and doing the course, seems like a cool guy. Good reading comprehension skills are a must if you want to get an A+. Everything was online except 2 vids I had to film of myself talking.
I took this class because it was a required for my degree, but I still enjoyed it and felt like I got something out of it. If you can read through a textbook, comprehend the material, and apply what you learned via quiz and essay questions then you'll do great.
Online class. Criteria was well explained, didn't always give feedback unless he took points off, slow in getting grades posted and didn't allow access to others in the class via BB so you're pretty much on your own. If felt like any questions sent were shut down quickly and not much room for discussion. Still an interesting class, great textbook.
This class is an easy A - read the book, take the tests, and do the rest of the homework and you'll be fine. Don't expect much from this professor though as his feedback is non-existent. Everything I learned was from my own reading and interest.
Easy A. He wastes a lot of paper on doing silly printouts he doesnt collect or grade. Makes me cringe.
14 quizes, reflection assignments, and 3 easy speeches. If you send your speech outline ahead of time, he will give feedback. Super easy class and a great professor!
Awesome! Great online instructor. All course material available and organized. Responds quickly to email. and questions. Kind and respectful. Very straight forward homework, assignments, and exams. Do the work and you'll pass. Definitely recommend! A+++
This class is very much based on participation- You need to read the textbook though; everything is based off of the chapters and materials you learn in the book. Prof is very clear and concise, and tells you exactly what he expects, but gives you freedom to do you within the expectations. Fun class overall, though!
This class was a piece of cake. just read the book, which is super easy to comprehend and you will pass. No exams!!! All assignments are done online. Easy A just have to show up for group work, but you dont have to turn anything in. Some classmates didnt read the book and still passed. lol
No reason not to pass if you do your work. Online quizzes(open text) Homework is not difficult but you will do homework everyday. To recorded assignments, one is the final speech. I enjoyed this class and Prof. Stringer answered my emails in a timely manner. Reading is required, a lot of it.
Lots of homework, but clearly stated and easy to complete. There is an assignment due every night but you can do them in advance. Great class, appropriate amount of work. Interesting subjects.
Best teacher I had out of my whole associates degree(I'm one semester shy of graduating). Second time to take class, first teacher was too social. Love the extensive days off in range of participation in class, in other regards do not miss class if you don't have to. Homework is not heavy , having a book helps with the ease of the class.
Such an easy and enjoyable class. Do the work, which is really easy and go to class and you will get an A. Attendance is a must as points will be docked depending on how many days you miss. No exams or speeches are required but you will have to record some conversational videos. Class is fun.
I took Professor Stringers online Interpersonal Comm. class. His syllabus is very clear, grading criteria is clearly stated, and assignments have clear instructions. A lot of reading and writing is done in the class, so make sure you are able to write at college level. He responds to e-mails promptly. I would take him again!
Prof. Stringer is such a nice and caring person. I took Public Speaking with him and he made each assignment as easy as possible, you hardly have to do any outside work besides practicing your speeches and taking the online tests (3 total and questions are directly from the textbook that you can use as well), speeches are pretty much your choice
I took speech with Professor Stringer and he was extremely caring towards all students and he made sure that all assignments were do-able and well explained. He made the class great!
super easy class, if you fail its because you chose too. Literally nothing about this class is hard if you do the assigned work. dont skip class because he will give extra credit to those that show up at the end of the semester. also get the textbook, you will need it for majority of the assignments
First time taking Stringer and the class was pretty easy. All quizzes are online and there is a few reflection assignments online as well. One speech at the end of the semester. Participation does matter in this class, theres lot of group work. You will need the textbook for the quizzes and in class as well. Do the work and you'll pass.
All the work is online but the lectures in person cover the book material in a more relatable. The class was very well adapted to when this pandemic broke out. Prof. Stringer was very helpful and understanding if you need to take a communication class he is definitely the one you want to take.
He is an amazing professor! All the work is online and can easily get ahead if you want. Attendance is important because it effects your final grade. You can easily get an A if you just do the work. He is always available and wants you to succeed. He truly cares about you and helps you in any way he can! Very understanding too! Definitely take him!
Easy class. Everything is online. You can find all the answers to online quizzes in the book. Short chapters and easy to understand. Group participations are fun.
Great Professor! Book was easy to follow, chapters were short and interesting. Class was very easy to get ahead in so I could focus more time on video clips and filming responses. Analysis of video clips were a little time consuming. Easy boost to your GPA!
Professor Stringer was amazing! I had many questions so I would email him (since we are in this pandemic and not in person) and he always would respond in a timely manner. One thing I have to say is that I LOVE this textbook! I really got into it and that honestly doesn't happen too often. 10/10 would recommend Prof. Stringer. :)
Mr. Stringer is the best! You have 4 speeches that major grades and he makes videos about what he wants from each of them. Very understanding and kind. Quizzes are from the E-textbook and open note. Very little effort to get an A
Super easy class, its many assignments but they are literally so easy. Just use the online textbook and you will be golden. Overall one of the easiest classes Ive taken and hes a really good professor, well-mannered, and easy to reach via email. Take him!!
Professor Stringer is very clear on what he expects from you in his course. All work is done on blackboard with due dates. Chapter quizzes and Unit reflections are assigned. I would take him again.
This class was so easy that I finished the class early. There is due dates for the assignments but it was so easy that I finished them. No test! We did have two video but I made As on them. Would definitely take his class again! I would just read the assign chapters for the assignments. I took this class while taking A&P and made an A.
Professor is so sweet and helpful. by far best prof I've had ever. Class is easy. just do your work and you'll get an A. Don't slack and you'll be fine. Chapter quizzes are easy, reflections assignments easy bc its about your opinion and experiences and final project is easy if you dedicate time to it.
I absolutely loved this professor! I wouldn't say this class was an EASY A, but I would definitely recommend taking it.
Prof is extremely helpful, gives feedback & quick reply. A LOT of assignments for 8 weeks: 13 quizzes, short film essays, reflection assignments, 1 group discussion, four final analysis and few other things. Mostly is your opinion and good perspective. Lots of writing. Literally read every page in textbook, which was helpful and easy to read.
This class was very average and I would take it again if I had to. Prof. was uninvolved since it was asynchronous and had weird grading criteria. Very simple class with quizzes/homework every day. Get ready to read and watch crap tv
4 speeches, 3 exams. Highly recommend!!
I took a shorter semester for this course and it was a lot of work but Professor Stringer is very helpful and responsive whenever you need help. It was also fun because you can discuss topics you're interested in. The textbook was also provided online.
Stringer was a great professor, very organized, caring, and easy to reach via email, and willing to meet if needed. The course was structured well, very easy pace, and all assignments were straightforward with guidelines, outlines, and rubrics provided. I learned and honed my speaking skills without too much stress. Highly recommend!
Super nice and supportive. There is a lot work but it's easy to keep up with once you get the hang of it. My only complaint is that there is little to no instructions you have to figure out a good part of it by yourself. Its an easy class and will definitely get you out of your comfort zone.
16wk, in person: I actually enjoyed this class more than I thought I would. We had 5 speeches and 8 online quizzes. he's very easy to talk to and will offer good feedback on your speeches. You can tell he really enjoys his job.
He is an amazing Professor. Truly cares about his students, available after class. He appreciates effort, show up to class, ask questions, and do the work, it's is an easy A
I struggle with public speaking which is why I took this class. Professor Stringer was easygoing and kept the class relaxed which helped me whenever I had to talk in front of the class. Just make sure to practice your speech before you do it and you'll be fine.
Take this class!! I actually enjoyed researching and preparing for the speeches. This prof wants you to succeed and will give you feedback on your outline before submitting it! There are tests along with speeches but both are very manageable. Do the work and get an A!! If I had to retake this course I would for sure take prof stringer.
Do not recommend taking this professor. He is a very tough grader.
horrible professor don't recommend taking this professor.
Very nice teacher!
Posted course material in the first week, no late work, tough greater but if you try he will notice and give you points. Graded by reflection assignments(3), interpreting film clips(7), test(3), and 2 video assignments, the final is a longer version of film clips. Response to emails quickly can tell he enjoys what he does and wants us to learn.
This is the weirdest class I have ever taken it was very easy it felt pointless. Mr. Stringer was a very nice guy like super nice and kind. it is very boring though
I had to take this class as a transfer requisite and I do not like talking in front of people, but the professor was very easy going and understanding. Very easy class just take him!!
Professor Stringer is a great professor. He is very nice, understanding, and not a difficult grader but making eye contact is important in speeches. My class had 5 graded speeches and 3 reflections. His activities and fun and overall, I enjoyed his class a lot. I recommend his class to anyone.
I usually hate talking in front of people, but professor Stringer made it very easy and comfortable. He created easy and manageable projects to get students outside of their comfort zone. I recommend him!
I took the online 8-week.1-2 quizzes each week. 6 film clips total with 3-5 questions in relation to textbook. 2 skills assessments of your interpersonal communication skills, then one last speech for 6-8 mins long on whatever you want during the last week of class. As long as you try, he will give you a good grade. Overall, good class!
easy class! i took the first 5-week online summer course, and it wasn't very much work at all. there was a total of 4 speeches and a few discussion boards. no exams or required readings. gives good feedback and has a clear rubric for the speeches! i would recommend him for this class
Would 10/10 take this Professor again! This was online and we were able to watch and study scenes from different films and answer questions. Super chill professor. I accidently turned in an assignment late once and I still got a 100 on it! Absolutely loved this professor!
SPCH1315 was more about speaking exposure than step-by-step 'how to', so if you're looking for a class that'll teach you how to put together a good presentation, this isn't it. There are 4 speeches/presentations throughout the course, in-person, in front of the class: intro, informative, group, & commemorative. Stringer was great, no complaints.
I enjoyed this class and learned a lot. Professor Stringer wants you to succeed and isn't a tough grader if you apply yourself and understand the concepts. Take him for sure you won't regret it TRUST 🤞🏼
