He is AWSOME..you will LOVE his class!!!!
He is so hot and hilarious too. I wish he would go out with me. No wait. . . I mean he's a great teacher and I learn a lot from him.

I loved this class. Makes lectures interesting. Tests are hard. I would highly recommend him
This class is great. He is funny and makes it go by fast. Not bad to look at either.
One of my best Profs! Really entertaining, you will learn a lot and he keeps your attention really well..Awesome, awesome, awesome professor!
Jeff is so cool. I have never had a better teacher. He has made such an impact on my life and I am so thankful for him!
Jeff is a great teacher. He makes class interesting by relating topics to stuff that people can relate to. He is really east to talk to if there is a problem and is willing to work stuff out. Not bad to look at!
Tamplin is awesaome! Very interesting class and makes it fun! Keeps your attention....everyone should take his class
If you have to take bio, take Tamplin. I ended up switching my major, but really enjoyed this class anyway. Don't let people freak you out... it's not too hard. If you can take him for lab--DO!!!!
Jeff is by far the best!
Really cool teacher. Tries to make the class interesting. Tests can be pretty hard but if you study you'll be fine. Gives bonus points every once and awhile. Grades really fair. Take him for lab also.
Such an awesome teacher. he is really interesting, and very clear on what he is teaching. its very obvious that he loves what he does. the best prof i've had since i've been here. if you have to take bio 1, take it with him.
Jeff is a really nice prof. He is very easy to understand. Gives bonus points just for going to class. He test are easy just go to class and take notes. He lab is fun as well. Jeff has a funny sense of humor. If you need to take bio I take him. You would be glad you did.
Way nice teacher. Expects basic understanding for tests as well as memorization. Bio I acts as a course to weed out students not up to the "challenge" of a science major and so he expects some time to be devoted to his class studying.
Take him!!! He is great if somewhat unorganized at times.
He is a way good teacher. Very funny and mixes up class to make it interesting. Highly reccomended!
Tamplin is really cool. He covers things very well. There are no surprises on the tests. Get E.C. just for showing up. Funny guy but likes to show disgusting pictures to his students.
Great prof, his lab is cool (go see Grandpa sometime). He is one of the most fun profs i have ever had. Ask him about a kid that tried to drop kick a fallen tree only to do a flip over it while tracking wood turtles in the spring of 2004 (great story...but i was there :D )
EXCELLENT TEACHER!!! He actually makes biology interesting. I'd take him if you have the chance! Fun lectures and lots of interesting slideshows with some disturbing pictures.
OOOO Tamplin. He's so funny and he's not too bad to look at! Take him for your lab if you want to get an A. The other lab teachers blow.
Take the lab with him too
Great teacher, he really made me like bio. He makes it fun and amusing with his stories and details, definately take him.
Jeff is a great prof. who is very enthusiastic about his subject, resulting in interesting lectures. His tests are pretty easy--all you have to do is study the notes completely--don't waste ANY time reading the book! The lab is the only tough part of this class since it requires an incredible amount of memorization!
Tamplin is an amazing teacher who is very passionate about what he teaches. The lectures are very interesting and any slideshows are available to you for studying. An awesome sense of humor and knows every person in a 150+ class. Tests rely on the notes. Take the lab with him if possible. It is rare to be interested, laughing, and learning at once.
Jeff is off the chain! He's a good teacher He's always helping the students when we have any questions. The lectures are far from boring and he always has a joke to throw in! He is really passionate about what he does and after taking this class, you will be too. Oh yea, the tests are strictly off of notes, if he didn't say it, its not on the test!
Jeff is the best professor i have had since being at UNI. He is very clear and has a great teaching style. It is fun to go to class and interesting too.
Jeff at first seems cocky, but he grows on you by the end of the semester. He even tells you not to read the book! Very interesting/funny lectures, and knows his stuff really well.
Jeff is the best prof I have ever had. He makes you WANT to learn. The class takes a lot of studying and memorizing. Great professor.
He was a great professor, very intelligent and caring. His tests were fairly easy expect in lab but a little work on your part will go a long way. Very kind and will almost always help you out.
Good, interesting, fun
Jeff is an awesome prof and keeps the class interesting and fun.
He's amazing!! Plus he's funny and cute! ;)
great class, good guy very helpful
interesting guy
tamplin is a very good professor who always keeps lecture classes interesting and usually funny. he gives you extra points often just for showing up or for watching a movie. def take his class!
he is funny and intersting n class but, Organisim diversity is so hard and he make it harder by covering a lot of pullshitt !! the exams hard .. take difrent profosser
class was very fun. he made sure to cover the most interesting topics. on the first day he brought live turtles to class. class time went by fast!
Tamplin is awesome. He makes learning about taxonomy really interesting and fun. Take this class AND the lab with him!
his lectures are really neat...like the first two weeks is very cool...nice guy gives lots of help...his lab is hard...but then again im sure all the labs are hard in OD..LOL
Jeff is a really nice guy... Tests off the notes but you must study more than just the night before. Do not buy the book for this class. It is still in the plastic wrapping for me. He gives you lots of free points, his lab is probably the easiest... He tells you what is on it right before the quiz begins. Just a lil cramming for A on quiz.
Jeff is a great professor because he makes you want to learn. His class lectures are very animated and exciting. He tests off of the notes but make sure you know your notes backwards and forwards.
Dr. Tamplin is AWESOME! I found that I understood everything that he lectured. He was also really helpful whenever I had any questions. Great professor!
He tells you everything you need to know in class, all you have to do is listen
Jeff is one of my favorite professors in the science dept. He is so down to earth and easy to talk to. I had him freshman year, and his enthuisasm for biology made me stick with it for my major. Take his class!
amazing professor. Exams cover a lot of material so you need to study at least a couple days in advance if you want an A on them. Go to class because he gives extra credit just for drawing a picture or writing a story. Very fun
Awesome teacher. He is the man! Tough but fun class. Definately recommended.
Tamplin is awesome! He gives many extra credit opportunities in class, drawing pictures or writing a short story. You have to take lots of notes but he explains them very clearly. Tests are hard, study your notes and you'll do fine. I've never used my book.
Jeff is the man! I highly suggest taking one of his classes. He gives funny, sometime disgusting, slideshows. Everything is from the powerpoints, so dont miss class, or your notes will suck. If you take him, the class will be tough, but go to it, take notes, and you'll be alright.
The single greatest professor to ever walk the halls of UNI. Honestly cares about his students and wants you to succeed. Allows smarta$$ answers, and will write smarta$$ comments back if he knows you have the sense of humor for it. TONS of memorization for the lab; be sure you take the lab with him. Never went to a lecture I didn't enjoy.
Tamplin. Is. Amazing. The first thing I thought when I woke up on MWF morning was how excited I was to go to Bio. He makes the class incredibly fun and gives extra credit for fun things. Slideshows at the beginning are the best. Easy to talk to and joke with. Really knows his stuff and really cares about students. Def recommend.
love Jeff's class
great teacher. fun class to be in
Jeff is a fantastic, laid-back prof. Not to mention super sexy. I could listen to him talk about Antarctica all day..Practicals can be tough but definitely manageable if you stay on top of it. Lecture tests are almost laughably easy, (I'm not complaining)! Take lab w/ Stuart. Fun as Jeff, but lets you out of lab early. We never use book/lab book.
I thought his tests were impossible to study for and he never explained one topic completely
He's a great teacher, and keeps the class fun and entertaining. Has a way cool dog too. He explains stuff in detail and expects high quality from his students...you do have to study to get the grade you want, and he does cover a lot of material. Recommend this professor to ANY other college student who's going into biology!
I took Jeff's Gen. Bio. Org. Div. class and loved it! Jeff is a great teacher and he really goes out of his way to make the class enjoyable. He always makes time for students (even though he's really busy with other stuff) and the best part is...he's easy on the eyes.
Quite possibly THE best prof in the history of profs. He starts off the day with a funny slide show to start class with a smile. You will need to study to do well on the tests. He likes to give a break before tests by watching a movie and puts in a few easy questions (when does class meet?)on all tests. If taking bio, take Jeff. Can't find better.
An amazing professor (with a really huge dog named Jack)! For such an overwhelming introductory course, he makes class interesting and fun. His stories are great! Especially Antarctica and the Dinosaur Fossils. He is totally the Indiana Jones of UNI :)
Great prof! Be prepared to work though. He keeps class interesting and makes you want to go to class. If you're taking Bio and you don't take Tamplin, you're making a mistake. Hands down best Bio prof.
Awesome! and his dog Jake rocks!
He always has around a great dane dog named Jack. Grades fairly. Very helpful.
Tamplin was an awesome professor. He really made the class interesting. I completely recommend him.
Best Prof. ever. Exams and practicals can be tough but if you can listen and take notes well youll do just fine! Plus hes hot, and who doesnt mind sitting through an hour long lecture 3X a week with a good looking teacher? haha
Hilarious, fun, unbiased. Very friendly & approachable, which is an absolute plus as not all of my professors are as easy to talk to/ask questions. Interesting stories, movies, etc. If you make the effort, you will do well in his class.
Get ready to memorize a bunch of pointless information that you will never use again. Some days were really interesting but rote memorization of trivia is my only problem with this course. The class prepared me for jeopardy but I'm not sure what else.
My favorite professor here!! EXTREMELY nice and easy to talk to- gives students benefit of the doubt and is always willing to help! Can't say enough good things about him- definiately take a class with him if possible!!
Tamplin is the best. He's hilarious and makes you feel really comfortable in the classroom. He's always willing to help if you show him the same respect he shows you. Put effort into the classes and you can't go wrong. It always helps that he genuinely knows what he's talking about, AND his turtle lab is wicked.
Jeff is an awesome guy!! he has the greatest stories and makes class really fun! you do have to memorize alot for lab its honestly not to bad. If i could have him in another class i would deffinitely take it!
Jeff is the most amazing teacher i have ever had. He is considerate of what other things you have going on and he is very reasonable on grading. He is funny and makes class interesting and enjoyable to go to. His class is what made me want to be a biology major. I recommend him to anyone and everyone. Cannot say enough good things.
Go to class and write the notes on the PP then you'll get an A. Very funny and has lots of extra credit which are easy. He knows what he's talking about which is good for this course! He's hot so that's a bonus! TAKE HIM!
Jeff Tamplin is a great professor and I thoroughly enjoyed his classes. Jeff is a very down to earth professor and has the willingness and patience to sit down and work with students outside of class. Jeff presents the subject matter in an easy to learn manner which makes the class fun and enjoyable. I would recommend Jeff's class to any student.
Lecture based class. The tests aren't very easy unless you study a lot. He gives a lot of extra credit opportunities, though. He's a cool, easy going guy too!
Very good teacher! Only class i enjoyed attending. I would take as many classes with him as possible. Study for your tests and they are fairly easy. Very helpful and eager to answer any questions.
Very good teacher! Only class i enjoyed attending. I would take as many classes with him as possible. Study for your tests and they are fairly easy. Very helpful and eager to answer any questions.
Definitely the best professor I've had a UNI. He shows genuine interest in student learning and you can tell that he really loves what he teaches. He always shares his own stories and experiences in class that add to the experience. I would recommend him to anyone for any class!!
Jeff Tamplin is easily my favorite professor at UNI. I had him for my biology lab and he made learning fun. He makes things interesting and has a great sense of humor. If you don't understand something, he is more then willing to explain it thoroughly so you get it. GREAT professor!!
This class was so much fun! We caught so many different species and had a blast everyday. If you can't handle the campin life, i wouldn't suggest it, you get pretty dirty. I would definitely recommend it and want to go again next year!
This guy is awesome! Its very important to him that his students learn, but he also wants to make class fun, and finds a lot of ways to do so! I looked forward to class! You need to study. But he really makes it difficult to do really poorly. An A is difficult to receive, but anyone can get a B in his course with some commitment. TAKE HIM!
Jeff is very easygoing. The class is laid back but your grade depends on participation in class discussion. Small class size doesn't make it too intimidating to talk though. You read books, write very brief reflection papers on the chapter, and lead 3 of the class discussions with a partner. It's an easy class but you NEED to participate. No tests.
Jeff is without a doubt the best professor I've ever had. Super approachable and reasonable, yet still challenging and expects effort, so you end up leaving class honestly feeling like you learned something. Some of the best days of my college career were in his classroom. Awesome professor!
Lecture was super easy. Lab wat tough but if you put the time in, you will be fine. Overall; a great guy, very funny and makes class fun. Also gave a lot of easy extra credit. Would totally take a class with him again.
Helps out so much! Understands if you are late and doesn't care if you text. Makes sure you tell him when you dont understand and he will help our A LOT! So good. Take him.
The absolute man. All you gotta do is show up for class and study your lecture notes for the exams. Coolest professor you'll ever have. Exams are straight notes from lecture, really interesting information and clear about everything.
He tends to ramble on in his lectures. There is a lot of material he says that he won't test you on. He is very funny, and he usually shows a video at the beginning of class. DON'T BUY THE TEXT BOOK! Just go from his lecture slides because that is what he test you on.
An awesome professor! One of the best I've had at UNI. Very fair grader, you leave feeling like you've earned a lot, doesn't require a textbook. He's also hilarious and really seems to care about his students. His tests can have a lot of material, but everything is in the notes! Worth it.
Awesome professor. Definitely take him if you have the opportunity. Funny in lecture and lab. Gives you plenty of extra credit to boost your grade. Just show up and study a bit if you want to pass his class.
Definitely one of my favorite professors so far. He is super fun and doesn't go too fast. Overall interesting and if you show up to class, lecture exams should be easy.
Jeff is a really good professor, however the material is hard to learn and memorize. He seems to enjoy the class and always starts with a 2 minute video that has nothing to do with the class; but is a great break. If you take the lab portion in addition, be prepared to study a LOT before any test. Had a free online textbook, but it wasn't necessary
Jeff is amazing! Basically all of his lectures were straightforward, powerpoints. If you show up to class and take notes on the slides, you'll be guaranteed to know every detail on the tests. He makes lecture fun by cracking jokes and offers extra credit often. You will NOT need to use the textbook... ever.
Amazing professor. Engaging lectures. Relates to students very well
This guy is awesome. Really great teacher who is extremely knowledgeable and wants the best for his students. Tests are definitely not easy and there is usually a large amount of material on each. If you take the lab, PREPARE YOUR BODY, purely memorization that you will fail unless you study hard and early. Didn't use the textbook for either.
OD is definitely a tough class. The one problem I have with Jeff is it seems like he says don't worry about these details they won't be on the test, and then he puts them on the test. With that being said, he is one of the easiest science professors you will find. Study hard and you probably won't get an A, but you can make it out with a B.
Jeff is an amazing professor, he makes lectures enjoyable, starts of every class with a video, you actually wont to be there. He wont post any lectures online, so make sure to show up to class, but he does have everything else needed on class. Definitely my top favorite professors. Plus turtles are amazing. Also, no reading.
I had him for OD lab. It was insanely hard but he was extremely helpful and a great teacher. I would recommend him for any class. He will definitely be there for you whenever you need it.
Jeff is literally my favorite professor, he made me want to go to class. You have to study in order to do well but he makes lectures fun and interesting. Definitely take a class with him.
Dr. Tamplin is one of a kind, a professor who not only respects his students, but challenges them on a regular basis to see beyond the comfort zone that is around us in our everyday lives. He will bring lectures to life, hopefully leaving an impact on you in a positive way.
Tamplin has definitly been one of my favorite professors at UNI so far. I took him for OD lab. He's very funny & really caring. If you have questions, he'll answer them no hesitation. The assignment's he gives out are completed in class with your group (easy). His quizzes, tests, and practicals are a little difficult but that's just every OD class.
Jeff is my favorite professor at UNI. I feel very lucky that I was able to take all three classes that he teaches. His lectures are interesting and relate able. All of his tests are extremely fair but you have to put in the study time. The best part about Jeff is that he respects you and is willing to explain anything that's confusing
Jeff Tamplin is an AMAZING professor. If you have a passion for biology, he is definitely someone you want to take. He is a very intelligent professor and cares about his students. He wants everyone to have a good time and loves to crack good dad jokes. I have nothing but good things to say about Jeff.
Jeff is an awesome lecture professor. If you get the chance to have him be your lab professor as well, absolutely take it. He cares so much about the success of his students and it shows. The class still takes a lot of hard work when studying for exams, but Jeff definitely helps you out. Also makes things more fun with lots of dad jokes. Great guy.
The greatest professor I have ever had.
Tamplin is a good choice if you have to take Organismal Diversity. However the course itself is A LOT of memorization, especially the lab portion. There is a lot of content, but the content isn't hard to understand. Be prepared to spend hours memorizing information.
Jeff is an amazing and funny professor who knows his stuff! The info is easy to understand but the class requires a lot of studying. Lecture exams are all multiple choice, true/false, and matching. They only contain info taken directly from the lectures and he doesn't try to trick you. If you put in the time and actually study, you'll do well.
Dr. Tamplin is the BEST biology professor at UNI! He truly cares about his students and his passion for teaching shows. He cares more about the students' getting an A or B then the students themselves. This course requires you to memorize a lot, especially for lab, so if you take the time to do that little by little each day, you should be good!
Jeff is easily one of my favorite professors at UNI. He gave the best lectures because they were informative, but enjoyable. His tests are straight off the slides and he gives a bunch of extra credit to boost grades! He has a lot of trick questions on his test though so make sure you actually know the material or youll get confused
Jeff is the best professor I have ever had in my college career. He's one of the smartest and most dedicated professors I have ever met. His lectures are always interesting thanks to the work he puts into his powerpoints; his sense of humor is the icing on the cake. If you attend lecture, you're set. However, the lab is kind of hard (memorization).
Tamplin is by far my favorite professor at UNI. He does an amazing job, I didn't even get the best grade that I wanted but he gives you everything that you might need to be successful in that class. The lab is a bit more challenging, but Tamplin offers extra credit oppourtunities to help accomplish your grade goals.
Jeff Tamplin is amazing. He is by far my favorite professor I have had at UNI. He is extremely smart and knowledgable in his field, yet he still knows how to teach well and make class fun and interesting. Even though this class can be challenging, especially the lab, he is really good at providing resources to do well. 10/10 would recommend.
Jeff Tamplin is great at giving lectures and keeps them interesting. I would recommend this class because everything that he teaches us is applied to the real world. His tests can be challenging but not if you are well prepared and study for them. Also, he does give a little bit of extra credit.
Dr. Tamplin is a great Herpetologist, and an even better prof. He has a real passion for learning and is not afraid to challenge students. he may be interpreted as tough... if you're a lazy student. but to those who want their moneys worth, El Jefe is the best
This class has no homework besides reading two chapters out of a book before almost every class. It's discussion based, and class discussions were super interesting. You have to do two group presentations, but they aren't hard. I learned more from this class than any other class I've ever taken, and I loved it. Take this class, you won't regret it!
Tamplin is hilarious and his classes are rarely boring. Come to class, participate, do the readings, and put time into in class presentations and youre good. This is a great class to take with challenging classes since its pretty stress free. I would absolutely take tamplin as a professor again, hes honestly the best.
Jeff is an amazing teacher. He is funny, respectful, witty, and really knows his stuff. He even wrote his own textbook, then made it available in the print shop for the cost of printing alone. Did his own (great) illustrations too. Just an all around solid dude.
Super funny and into his lectures. Tests were fairly straightforward. Class was difficult more because of the lab w/ dif prof. 4 tests, a lot to study so go to class, but he's a great teacher and I'll take more of his classes
Tamplin does a great job thoroughly explaining all the topics. He always answers questions and provides good feedback. And he can be incredibly funny, which is probably how he got his girlfriend. Both get 10/10.
He is by far one of the best teachers I have ever had! I knew about him before I even stepped on campus! He is an amazing guy! Funny, caring, and a great teacher! 10/10 recommend him!
Online class during covid. He would send slides out that you would go over on your own time. He held a zoom before the tests (very helpful) for questions and reviewing material. Truly cares about the students and wants them to do well. Also seems very funny. He was also super helpful with questions. Had to study for tests in order to do well.
Had very funny PowerPoints
Tamplin is a great professor and shows that he really cares about you and your grade. Hes funny and makes class enjoyable. It is required that you participate but he makes it easy and fun. You are usually in a small class so he gets to know you well. He is my all time favorite professor!
Jeff is one of my favorite professors I've had at UNI. He makes class enjoyable and is so knowledgeable about biology. I always felt like he prepared us for exams and he always was able to answer questions we had. I looked forward to his class every week and would absolutely take another class with him if I had the opportunity!
Dr. Tamplin was an excellent professor. His lectures were engaging and easy to follow. He gives you everything you need to succeed you have to try to fail his class. Sometimes he'll go on tangents off topic but it makes his class enjoyable and breaks up the workload.
Dr. Tamplin has been one of my favorite professors I've ever had. His slides are great and he is very clear about what will be on exams. He explains things well and loves answering questions. He truly wants you to succeed and to learn.
I loved Jeff's class. He was very personable and is willing to work with you on your grade. He offered some extra credit and would give points for class participation. While attendance isn't mandatory, i would recommend going to every class even Fridays because he tests off of the lectures and just going over the slides on your own won't be enough.
He can get a little long-winded with lecture but everything he talks about is really interesting. I have enjoyed learning everything he has taught us! I would take this class every semester for the next 10 years if I could, and I don't think I'd get bored.
I put participation matters because as a student taking this class, it is necessary for you to go into lab and study. Everything is incredibly easy as long as you take the time to look and study the specimen. If you have questions on how to differentiate species, Jeff is normally available and super helpful when teaching tips, tricks and pneumonics
I really enjoyed Dr. Tamplin he made class fun and interesting. Tests may get you at first but if you apply yourself you will do goof. Although attendance is not mandatory, you should definitely go as he goes much more into detail than on his slides.
Tamplin is so funny and his class was so much fun to attend. Only a few small assignments and 4 major tests. He really cares about grades and wants everyone to do good. Tests were semi difficult but only if you don't study or go to class. I recommend sitting towards the front to hear him best.
Was very clear about what was on tests, gave lots of direction about what to study. Gave you most of the answers if you look at slides and study guides. Doesn't take too much work to get a good grade if you participate and study.
