Jeff is a great teacher. Probably the only class that I have ever had that I genuinely learned alot in. I was kind of worried on the first day when he was talking about the economy...I was like "oh man another bolshevik teacher." Not true at all

Very good teacher, I would suggest anyone who wants or needs to take a technical writing class to take this professor. You will truly learn a lot from this class.

Jeff is awesome!!!!!!! On the last class we went to Denny's on a Friday morning and everything was a "grand slam". He knows what he is talking about and its always something interesting!

Very helpful when writing stories. Shares some of his own. Very nice man, easy to work with. Willing to help. class was easy. I enjoyed it very much.

Jeff is a very fun teacher to be around. He doens't even act like a teacher, more like a friend who you can talk to about anything and everything.

Knows his stuff. Teaches the class like everyone in there actually wants to be a writer. Gives you pretty much free reign with your writing assignments. Ask him about his bag of shoes.

He is an awesome professor. I have had him before and he does a great job of teaching. He teaches from the heart and he loves writing so it is easy for him to teach his students.

Good Prof, but gets a bit weird when your story turns out better than his personal stuff. If you are a good writer, be prepared to be shut down. A bit arrogant too.

Mr. Van was a very cool teacher. I'm not a very good writer, but he helped me get through. He's funny and makes the class time less painless than a creative writing class could be. I would recommend him, but be prepared to write. (He's cute too!)

Mr. Van is the best professor at Delta. He is so laid back and very helpful to all of his students. He is very understanding. Can't wait to take him in the winter!

Mr. Van is an excellent professor. His great sense of humor makes his classes very laid back. But that doesn't mean you donhave to show up! If you take one of his creative writing classes, try to read some of his writing. It will give you ideas on how to become a better writer. Speak up in class and contribute to discussions.

Incredible guy, had him for screen writing and creative fiction. He's passionate about what he does and is eager to help. Screen writing was the best class I've had in three semesters and he's really understanding if you have to take creative writing for your major and you're not much of a writer.

Mr. V is a great professor. He is very passionate about what he does and really want his students to learn. He makes writing seem so easy and natural. He also really helps you if you ask. I would recommend him to anybody.

I haven't received my grade for this class yet. Regardless, I think Mr. Van is an excellent teacher. I've always been interested in writing and especially fiction. It is nice learning from a passionate and published writer.

He is very easy to get along with. I enjoyed every single moment in his class. Our class really did become good friends, he really cares about you and your success. Meets you where you are at. Keeps you accountable for your work, keeps ya motivated! : ) i loved him!

Jeff is the most laid back teacher I've had. He really knows the material, and keeps the class fun. Also, screenwriting was a super easy class, yet I learned so much

Mr. Van is the BEST english teacher i've ever had. i love him for creative fiction writing and he is SO passionate about writing that it just makes you want to be passionate too! his books are great and the two stories you write are not difficult. Van is HILARIOUS, honestly. i was often laughing very hard. only downfall: you don't get out early.

If you can, take as many classes with Jeff. He is comical and witty, which makes the lessons fun and engaging. I have taken 5 classes with Jeff and I don't regret a single one. Remember to do your work and turn things in when they are do. Also, remember to bring in enough copies for people to read your work. Hard to critique if there's no paper.

ENG111A there are no books, and only 4 papers. 098 is so easy, one book, money themed & also 4 papers. Great professor! Funny, interesting, and extremely helpful! I highly recommend him to anyone. :)

Awesome teacher for my writing class! & He is very funny and will guide you through your papers! He goes step by step of what you need in your papers. After taking this class, my writing has improved a lot!

Mr. Vande Zande is like this: sarcastic; funny (but he knows this); and cheeky, willfully forgiving, and always encouraging. The banter was like this constant stream of quick, witty battles that were never won. But all in good humor. I would recommend him to anyone who doesn't take themselves too seriously. He doesn't love the serious types.

I took both of Jeff's screenwriting classes. He is by far one of my favorite professors at Delta College. He expects you to participate and helped me grow as a writer. I would recommend his classes to anyone who is at Delta.

Vande is awesome! His lectures are long and you do have to read a lot, but duuuh, it is a reading class. He's very clear with all directions and he keeps things fun!

Jeff is a great instructor. You have quizzes on short stories every week, but they're short & easy. He leaves a lot of room for creativity in writing your own stories and is very flexible with due dates and attendance. Not to mention he's a pretty funny guy and makes the class feel comfortable and lighthearted. Definitely recommend him to everyone!

Van is a really great person. He's very funny and personable, and he gives very good feedback when doing workshops in this class. I thought it was a very easy class without a lot of critical thinking except with the stories. I wish it had been a bit more intensive of a class, as a lot of the content we went over was already familiar to me.

He is very likable. He offered extra credit if you bought his book which is a little tacky. My only criticism is that he makes you read the drafts of your short stories in class. I get that peer reviews help but it made me very self-conscience reading it aloud which is a shame because I enjoyed writing the pieces. Highly recommend for lower levels

Jeff is and awesome teacher. He gives amazing feedback and is very clear with what he expects. I would definitely recommend him. Easy A in his class as long as you do the work which is also pretty easy. He gives LOTS of time in class to work on assignments. You almost never have homework.

Best class I ever had and I hated English going into it. Definitely recommend him. The stories are very short, average around 9 pages. 1 paper that he gives you all semester to do. If I had any other English classes, I would take them with him. Easy A. Come to class and you will pass!!

Jeff breaks down the English paper writing easily. He makes it seem easy to write a good paper. His examples are good. He is funny and makes class enjoyable. Having no book is a bonus.

Had Vande for Eng 221 & Eng 111. Best English professor possible for both courses. i've recently taken Eng 221 (still not a fan of literature), Jeff was able to make the class very interesting and relatable.

FYI, I was retired and 63 when I took his class. I got a lot out of his class learning how to write a character driven story. There's in-class critiques where you read your story and every other student gives feedback on it. In addition, there's lectures and quizzes on the reading homework. Prepare to write and participate and you'll be OK.

Mr. Van was enjoyable as a professor! Good sense of humor and his class is based off of a theme which was nice, especially for a writing class. Papers that we had to do were clear cut and he does conferences with each student individually to discuss papers. I definitely feel more confident writing a paper!

Hands down BEST professor I've ever had. You read about 15 short stories in the semester, quiz on all of them. Also, you read a novel. One paper due the whole semester. He helps you look at life in different ways and honestly changed my life in a positive way. He made going to an 8 am class so worth it. DEFINITELY TAKE HIM!

By far one of the best professors I have ever taken. If you don't read the stories, you simply won't pass. His discussions make you really think about your future, and your "true self" would HIGHLY recommend him. Also TAKE NOTES during the short stories discussion, or the midterm will be difficult.

One of the best professors Ive ever had. Really cares about his students and that they succeed. Lots of short stories and then a quiz on them. Super easy as long as you read the material! Gives 20 extra points at the beginning in case you need to miss a quiz or get some wrong on other quizzes. Really a great guy!

Jeff is one of my favorite instructors, compassionate and very understanding that life isn't a game where you can ace the level every time. As long as you communicate to him he is always willing to go the extra mile to help you. Truly a great man and an amazing and understanding teacher. I found my passion for film because of him.

Mr. Van was a really chill and fun guy. Nice to talk to. Lots of interesting discussions about the readings in class. As long as you read, youll do fine. Be prepared to read a novel over a two week span though! I recommend downloading Audible and speeding it up to x2 to help keep your attention span.

Mr. Van is really nice guy and easy to talk to. Was very clear about what was expected from our papers. There were some days where he told me that I didnt even have to come to class since I was done with my work, which was nice. He is also very funny with his lectures

This class is the reason I'm still in college. I was struggling and having difficulty motivating myself and Jeff was always super supportive and encouraging. The material was interesting to learn and the atmosphere was comfortable. 10/10 would take again.

Easily one of my favorite teachers at this school. He gets back to you ASAP and always open to give advice and help as much as he possibly can. This is my second class with him and I would for sure take him again. All you have to do to pass is to do the work and give him effort.

I am only half way through a semester with him and he is already easily one of the kindest, most laid back educators I have learned from in a very long time. I cant recommend him enough.

I've had a lot of good teachers over the years at Delta College, and Mr. Vande Zande is one of the best. He's a very nice guy who is a bit laid back and easy going, but also very passionate about writing and he expects everyone to do their work. He's not afraid to be a bit firm / strict, when called for. He's always willing to answer any questions.

He is amazing. Makes the class fun & exciting to be there. He provides the best feedback on all papers. No homework, no book.

I don't blame him for it though, he creates such a nice environment full of jokes and openness for ideas, even if he doesn't particularly agree with them. would recommend, it was a very easy class with NO homework!!

I absolutely loved taking Mr. Van's class! No textbook or purchased materials required, easy to ask him questions inside or outside of class, and responds to emails quickly. Makes his expectations for each paper clear with examples. And gives time to get almost all the class' work done in class. Would recommend for sure.

Such a great professor, I had him for English 96A and 111C and it was great; he's very structured and gives clear instructions. Definitely recommend participating and speaking in class or else it can get dull. As long as you listen and go to class, it's so easy.

I enjoyed having Mr. Van for 2 English courses the tied together,he is a very fair person with the grading assignments. He gives you a good amount of class time to work on your assignments.I would suggest is studying for the quizzes and actually showing up because there are some things that if you aren't there you don't credit and can't make up!

Really cool guy. Can tell he's very experienced in writing/literature, both by the way he writes himself + the feedback he gives. He allows a lot of stylistic freedom which I'm grateful for, and the expectations for grades are always clear. Class setup was organized + easy to navigate. He's easy to reach outside of class + patient about questions.

THIS CLASS GIVES GREAT GREAT WORK/LIFE/ SCHOOL BALANCE Mr. Van is a great professor!!!He gives you entire class periods to work on your paper and will genuinely work with you if your having a hard time or need extra help! He he prints lots of examples as well which is super nice!!

Mr. Van is a professor who genuinely cares & will work with you!! Clear grading criteria, plus he hands out examples! He gives you enough time in class to write your paper so you aren't stuck with homework either! I was able to have a great work/life/school balance because of this class. If your questioning if you should take this class, do it!!

Professor Van was great! Very accessible through email, emails often answered within hours. Thanks to Professor Van, I now feel confident in college level writing.
