Great Prof. Well taught. Speak clearly.
makes hard subject easier. good guy. has a mysterious grudge against civils.
Makes a confusing topic very easy to grasp; nice, clear lectures and excellent labs.
Probably best prof in Mech and Materials. Better than that monkey Baatman.
Great guy, easy to talk to, and will go for a beer if you ask him. He's always willing to joke around and lighten the mood of the class. Keep up the good work!
A man with infinite wisdom in his subject. One of few profs to actually encourage questions in lectures. Just need to get him to upload those lecture notes to the website so we can listen and watch, rather that write. Although we are quieter when writing

Great prof. Very personable, easy to ask questions. Knows his material VERY well.
Great Prof. You don't want to miss his lecture. He explains everything clearly, and if you DO go to his class, you should do pretty well in this course.
great guy
HE is one the best people with excellent personality.
I really liked him and the class, as it ALMOST convinced me that materials engineering would be fun. But just dont skip the entire last month of class or the exam is difficult.
Nice guy, great teacher. Key to success: Go to class, study his notes and study his old tests.
He's OK
Woody's a great proff. Just make sure to take solid notes, and be sure to write down some things he *says* and doesn't put on the board.
Awesome prof! Constantly makes relations between the material studied and real life. One of the best of my first year profs!
Its an honor having him at western.
Sometimes his tangents make the material even more confusing.
Very relaxed professor. He does expect student involvement, and marks typically follow the 'what you put in is what you will get out' model.
This guy is hard to find for extra help. He was a good prof but didn't teach the stuff he was putting on the tests. TAs are usually good with the stuff he forgets. he doesn't post notes so go to the lectures.
Really great prof! He made this one of my favourite courses, even though the material wasn't the most interesting. He posts all of his slides online, as well as practice problems, supplementary explanations, and past midterms and finals! I already miss this course and it's only January... Studying is a must though, there's just too much material
Hes a good prof. very cool. loves it when students strike up conversations with him. However hes very hard to find outside of class so if you ever need extra help just try to talk to him before or after class. And as long as you THOROUGHLY study the past midterms and finals you will ace this course no matter how interested you are.
An excellent teacher and supervisor
RJ is a super relaxed prof, casual approach to explaining the subject matter is helpful for the 8:30 AM lectures. Extremely knowledgeable in regards to the material, has a tendency to go on random tangents about more advanced concepts. Always prepared to answer questions and help you out, even outside of class. Overall 910 would recommend
Didn't go to any lectures after the first midterm test and still aced all his other midterms since he recycles the majority of the questions
He's okay as a professor. Fortunately the midterms and the finals are all 99% if not completely recycled. It's a joke of the course for this reason, but if you want to learn you can as well.
He is just awful
Whatever is taught in lectures might not be what will come in the quizzes
Do not reccomend
He is the worst prof ever, doesnt teach anything
You learn a lot in this course especially through the lectures. The format of everything this year was no multiple choice and usually challenging questions. You definitely have to study hard but he actually knows what he's talking about, just makes the tests and quizzes challenging. The lectures are mostly talking but the powerpoints are helpful.
Very difficult tests and the exam was so confusing compared to what he told us was going to be on it
Honestly if you have the chance to switch into a section with a different prof I would recommend it. No matter how well you have reviewed the textbook or lecture there is always going to be a question or concept will be tested that has not been taught, and is not mentioned in the class. Also this course is based on theory, but is tested on math
Doesnt cover the important topics. Just rambles. I always would get 60s on his quizzes after studying for hours. Overall useless. Please fire him.
He is the worst prof I have ever had. His assessments do not relate to the course at all. He tries to make us fail. Overall, horrible.
He used to recycle midterms and finals but he changed the whole curriculum so our year was the guinea pig year. doesn't know how to teach. He used to be good until he got the position of associate dean. Don't take him trash
I thought that Professor Wood explained the material relatively well in the lectures, and his slides were good to look over after class. The textbook he provided was really bad though and had a lot of useless material. Additionally, the exam and midterms had very random material which you usually had to guess on.
Dr. Wood genuinely cares about his students but his tutorials can be quite difficult to understand
Professor Wood ran this course disastrously. Weekly quizzes were not made until midterms, and even then only 7/12 weeks had quizzes. Course material did not relate at all to tutorials, and it was difficult to understand examples through very theoretical teaching. Wood did not explain concepts well since he was "used to more difficult problems".
Professor Wood was a complete mess. He had no idea how to manage a class. Evaluations were a disaster, information was poorly communicated, and the tutorials were a joke. Marks were not released in a timely manner, and course content was finished at 2 am the night before. We couldn't even access the course outline since the link was broken.
Rated "Hillarious" because it's Hillarious how badly this course was handled winter '22. Down-curve of 12%+ because all of the exams were unproctored and online. "Am I bLiNd To WiDeSpReAd AcAdEmIc DiShOnEsTy?!?!"
Terrible prof, terrible course. Pointless rambling not related to midterm/final in lectures, slides filled with completely pointless information. No practice questions, and tutorials with clueless TAs and ineffective activities. You'll probably get a decent grade due to the way the course is broken down, but don't expect to actually learn anything.
Not that bad but he gives questions that you don't actually learn.
Sour attitude regarding to this course's teaching assistants: Not telling TAs what to do on tutorial time, and the attendence is manditory but no one knows what is going on. Useless lectures and slides for studying (sometimes with errors). Better skipping lectures and discuss with your classmates or do research online yourself in order to succeed.
Boring lectures, and was unclear with the TAs regarding the tutorials, so they were a mess. Exams were not too difficult.
If there are other options for this class, just don't take with this prof!
jeff wood is by far the worst professor ive had at western university. He refuses to respond to emails regardless of urgency/importance. This year he posted a "midterm practice problems" with no solutions, incorrect multiple choice options, topics we've never covered, and repeated questions. He provides 0 insight into the course and is a nuisance
Jeffrey also does not release solutions to our previous tests meaning we can't even learn from the mistakes we make in his class. Lecture slides are practically useless meaning you will have to come to lectures where he'll ramble about stuff that will never be tested on. Possibly the only engineering professor more insufferable than john dickinson
Jeff Wood is probably the worst professor I ever had and i can possibly have. During lectures, he just yaps the whole period talking about his family. At this point i know more about his life than materials. It is clear he never prepares for lectures, and he does not care about his students. Ridiculously, he gets mad for us skipping his lecture.
Jeff Wood talks about his wife every class, and I am unfortunately not interested in his relationship status. If I'm doing a test and I think back to his lectures, I remember more information about his life than class content. If he tested us on his personal life, I would get 100%. However, the tests are about materials, so my mark is failing.
His lectures have no clear direction, often goes off topic, and rambles making it hard comprehend. He also refuses to post practice questions for quizzes saying "it would take forever to transfer questions to brightspace" basically "too lazy to do it". Like wdym you're too lazy to help us pass??? This guy really does not want us to suceed...
- Tested on material he gave us no practice for - Delayed grades due to miscommunication with TA's - Late posting of assignments more then once (including term project) - Would get massively off topic during lectures making them relatively useless - Has no textbook meaning there is no way to learn the content other then his crappy slides
Wood is a nice guy, but the course has been uncharacteristically difficult this semester. Quizzes and exams are fairly difficult, often on material not covered in slideshows, and there are almost no practice problems available. This course is usually a mark booster, but the average this semester is way lower than usual (and sem 1).
Guy gets pressed for people not coming to class, however watching my 5 foot 2 dad mow the lawn is more interesting. His dedication to the class is in comparison to KD in OKC as in response to being asked about his mid term pq's he stated that he is aware that some of the questions have no correct answer and to figure it out by ourselves.
His ego gets in the way of his teaching. Oh, you guys don't want to come to my lecture? I'll take away your formula sheet for the next quiz. It's not his lecture that's the problem, it's the time of day, but the fact that he takes it out on us is inconceivable. smh
Lecture slides posted are different than in class ones. Gets mad when the class ends up skipping, and doesnt fully explain the content on the online slides to punish those who dont attend
wow this guy sucks. Every tutorial we wait for 30 mins cause he forgot to release the stupid assignment. he is so disorganized and should be avoided at all costs.
JT Wood should focus on actually preparing and testing students fairly. The tests are on material we have no practice for, practice for the midterm came with zero solutions and a follow up announcement saying "i know that there is some content that we havent covered in the problems, and that there are incorrect answers, but figure it out yourself"
This guy is genuinely the worst prof I've ever had. Really does not care about his class, on the first day he told our class that usually he'd provide us with practice questions for our tests, but he had lost the file with all of them so we wouldn't be getting any. I hate him. Doesn't provide a textbook either.
Wood should be avoided at all costs. Useless, unstructured, boring lectures. Slides posted are useless. No textbook used. Makes constant errors on brightspace.Rather than posting solutions to the few practice problems provided, he says "You are encouraged to work with your classmates to come to a consensus on the correct answers." Shows little care
Told students not to email him as he gets too many. The fact that he's associate dean of this program is disappointing because of his constant displays of laziness; constant mistakes on OWL, no solutions provided, incorrect slides posted. Section average is 13% lower than the section of a different professor, showing how bad his class is conducted.
WORST PROF IVE EVER HAD. Doesn't give us any practice problems. Posts the final exam outline A DAY BEFORE THE FINAL EXAM. I can go on for our hours but I have a final exam tomorrow that I need to study for. PLEASE FIRE HIM.
Final is in less than 12 hours, term project mark (worth 20%) still not graded. Yet another display of laziness from associate dean Jeffery Wood.
Bro does not wanna be teaching this course any more than any of us want to attend his lectures. Lectures are a snooze fest. He's never given a formula sheet that has all the formulas you need. In fact it's as if he gave us every formula you don't need for the quizzes. The TA's have no idea wtf is going on so they just let you cheat on everything.
Woods is truly inspirational, of all the bad professors at Western University, he's the only prof that's inspired me to spend time writing a review for how bad he is. His lectures are sub-par at best and he refuses to give us practice (despite us begging), the quizzes barely relate to the course content and he grades them like it's the MCAT
Jeff Wood's class is hard but I don't hate the guy because he's pretty cool
Until the very last day this guy shows just how lazy he can be. Provides incorrect solutions to a quiz 2 days before the final, and rather than correcting them clearly, just scribbled with red pen over the incorrect solution.
If its true that this prof was good 10 years ago, then the quote "You Either Die a Hero or Live Long Enough to See Yourself Become the Villain" rings truer than ever. RIP Wood
Be prepared to learn on your own! (buy chegg/chatgpt 4!!). He normally does not post solutions to any practice problems but if you ask him for help he does. Also he doesn't put much effort into the course and it can be frustrating at times but he's a decent man and if you go talk to him in person he usually helps
He is the associate dean of engineering who is somehow incapable of teaching a class of first years. Some formulas not in his slides were required for the exam and practice problems. The exam had questions that were impossible to solve. He was lazy & unfair, concepts were not explained so we were just memorizing all semester, it felt pointless.
Honestly a disrespect to western engineering that the associate dean is Jeffery Wood. He clearly is super lazy, unmotivated and doesn't care for students. It's surprising, and frankly concerning, that someone in a leadership role isn't held to a higher standard. Western Eng deserves better.
Wood could've done a better job teaching, and using his resources better but he seems like a chill guy outside of school and I don't think he deserves ALL of the hate he's getting.
Dude doesn't care at all. Better off studying 2hrs than 20hrs because he is going to pull random questions from anywhere he can find - even chatgpt if he cant find the test bank.
Why is he the associate dean? Lazy attitude to learning, yes he is a great guy and personable but many are paying their thousands for university to LEARN. This guy uses AI to make his practice papers and likely also the exam. I was so interested in materials until he took the course over. Ruined my chances and my interest. Hope he finds peace.
He's an evil man. He didn't give a formula sheet for a quiz because he was upset no one attended lectures. Not that it really matters, because 90% of formulas you need will not be on any formula sheet anyways. His final had questions that were, by his own admission, unsolvable with the amount of information given. There are no practice problems.
Wood is a decent guy, but its clear that his priority is associate dean, not teaching first year mats. He's nice, but he rarely responds to emails, doesn't have office hours, and his quizzes and exams are lousy. Typically no practice problems given, confusion on the scope of assessments, and incomplete formula sheets. Much lower average than sem 1.
Great guy, liked his classes. Tests would have no homework associated, and were to evaluate you on things outside the courses scope. We had questions that were required knowledge he did not teach (either in person or in class). I realized that at the start and stopped going to his class after the first quiz. Self studied and got similar marks.
Lecture content and quizzes/exams are completely unrelated no reason to even go. The quizzes are unbelievably with questions he doesn't even know how to answer himself. The practise for the final exam and even the entire final exam itself was made with ChatGPT, multiple questions on the final had no answer and were unsolvable.
Included random bs on his midterm. nothing like before. would tell us something isnt on test and go on to put exact thing.
Terribly taught
Amazing human being but such a boring professor. His formula sheets are useless so be ready to memorize all the 70 equations.
meow meow meow meow meow
this dude is so baked he makes the most random midterms and will slime you in all assessments, his TAs might be as bad as him, they grade while playing with themselves and gave people marks who answered 67 for questions they didn't know. Don't even get me started on this dude enzhong jin bro was on za while grading assignment 1.
Its Jeff Wood bro. Bro sucks
Do you hate yourself? No? Give it three weeks. Wood's is a certified edger who lectures without a single clear takeaway. Thoughtfully provided formula sheets so you can admire them, because NONE of the formulas will be on the exam. All of this, courtesy of an associate dean and a $200k salary.
Prof cannot teach for his life. Buddy does not do practice problems in class and does not give us answer to posted problems on owl. Exams are unfair and hard for no reason. Buddy loves young modulus and polymers and cannot teach for his life even though hes the dean of engineering.
not great at teaching and no practice problems in class but exams are all practice problems. Also doesn't post answers to practice problems online and requires you to find out the answer.
You'd think that an associate dean would be an okay professor, but he is unable to stay on topic, lacks core slides in lecture notes, and makes his exams on content that is not covered at all by the lecture slides. Concepts are hard to learn with his poor slides lacking context, and even harder with his poor quality lectures. Never again.
This guy does not teach in class. He goes on side tangents and asks if anyone has a question every minute. Has 3 slide long slideshows that do not teach you the concepts. Midterms were unlike anything ive ever seen before, on the second midterm not a single formula on the formula sheet was usuable. Dont go to this guys class, youre wasting ur time
Jeff would might be the greatest professor of all time...if being a good professor meant rambling off topic for half of his lectures. AND hes def got a thing for young's modulus or something. Overall skip his lectures, value your sleep and don't even acknowledge the fact that there's a formula sheet. THEY WONT BE USEFULL. Also material selection :(
Cant say ive ever had a worse teacher. dont bother showing up to this guys lectures. He puts diagrams form the 1800s on the board and doesnt even know whats going on. This guy loves taking questions but never answering them. brutal
He edged young's modulus for 2 months only to define it as stiffness. Formula sheet had NO FORMULAS. I stopped coming in the morning to the point my bus driver called to ask if I was alive. The TAs were useless, aggressive and marked like every mark taken was a extra $1000 for them. Content was like LeBron's career, with no clear endpoint in sight.
