Tricky questions on test. Lectures are informative.
His quizes and midterms have tricky questions. This class requires that you take very good notes in order to study for his tests.
tests are really hard, and his lectures are boring
good teacher... goes off topic a good amount. just study his notes and its all good
Easy. Nice guy.
very good teacher.u have to go to class and TAKE NOTES!tests(not easy, but not 2 hard) are all based on lecture NOTES!
Dr. Kaufman is an outstanding professor. His lectures are interesting and his sense of humor helps, too! Overall, I would highly recommend his class. He's great.

Great Guy, Very Interesting, Show up for class and it's an easy A.

He's wierd and funny, but an exellent teacher too.
Great teacher. Take thorough notes and study them for tests. Tests are a bit hard, but if you study, its not bad. Very personable.
He does a good job teaching but his tests I found way way too difficult. I really had to work in his class and I ended up missing a B by a few points.
go to class and take notes or you are screwed! u keep 5 of ur best quiz scores. and there r only 2 HARD tests and 1 final. lots of memorizing. if u cant memorize stuff dont take this class.
Super easy class. Great teacher. Has good sense of humor and really helps differentiate what is important to know and what is not.
Study his lecture notes and you will surely get an A in the class. He's the best biology teacher I ever had. You do learn a lot from him. FOCUS ON LECTURE NOTES and only use your book if you need further clarification.
Kaufmann is the bomb. He's fun and he keeps the class involved. He's flirty to but not in an inappropriate way he's a very cool teacher.
I LOVE HIM HE WAS SO FUN AND INTRESTING TRUST ME TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HIM NOT COHEN!!ONE OF THE BEST TEACHERS EVER, BUT THE MATERIAL IS REALLY DIFFICULT BE PERPARED TO STUDY IF YOU WANT A GOOD GRADE!
this class is really really hard and i guess he tries to make it interesting and he is funny but the class really sucks. dont expect a social life
Good teacher, very clear on what is needed to pass the class. Lectures all class every class. Great attitude and is helpful to students when they ask for help. Take notes and show up everyday and you will pass.
Dont be fool most of these ratings are from Kaufmann himself...Overall he is alright!
A really good teacher explains everything in depth and you really start understanding the concepts of biology. although his tests are extremely hard and he doesn't take attendance and his lectures are all online..the only problem is if you don't go to class you will probably fail.
I really liked his lecture class. I never liked science but he made it really interesting. His exams are a little bit difficult but not impossible to get an A. The only thing I didn't like is the Lab because he checks only one persons workbook & if they didn't do it, the whole team gets a bad grade.

Did not help me much. He helped other students but for some reason he treated me diffrent
Lots of information - 2 words for you: Good notes! (flash cards as well) I love this class but didnt do well on his tests. Lots of memorization and in the lab, recognition and identification. I did learn ALOT and if you like bio, he's the one!! good teacher.
He obviously has a lot of information and he is undoubtedly an educated individual. However, he implied in the first session that he does not believe in God and that God must be an extraterrestrial being. This was very rude, unethical, anbd inconsiderate. His sarcastic jokes sometimes go too far and he fails to show up on time at office.
Wow, somebody finally sees what I witnessed. The reason why most student fail to understand his unethical behavior is because they are immature to understand!
How would some students discribe Kaufmann: Prejudice,unfair,narrow-minded and discriminates. But remember that it could work for you or against you depending on if he likes you or not. Now ask yourself if that's fair or not?
Dr. Kaufmann is a very good teacher. Yes he will make you work, but he is clear and if you show up, take notes and study you will get an A. Also, every semister copies of previous exams are posted in the hall. Be smart and copy them down for the next semister--at least 1/2 of the exam questions are the same!He is really fair and care about students
He has a big ego at times and his personality can be intolerant. He can present Biology material somewhat ok but sometimes his jokes might offend people. There were times when people asked him for help and he displayed an attitude. Several times other students and I went to his office during office hours yet he was missing. He seems to favor people
I LOVED this class. I took summer school-way easier in my opinion. I don't think he was mean to anyone unless they deserved it. Some people just can't handle it. Most of his jokes were funny; really makes you love bio. I thought it was an easy A, he modifies the points a lot. Not too bad tests, just study. He really knows his stuff, GREAT TEACHER!
Knowledgeable, is the Best word that describes him, u wont get bored. Everyday something new for u .!!! but don’t forget to take some note in the class. If u r a good note taker take him!!!!
He explains very well. It's hard not to understand materials with his lecture. He makes biology fun and easy! He is the best biology professor in IVC! He is great!!
Easiest class I have ever taken. I never even opened the book, and I got an A. Lectures are very important. GO TO EVERY LECTURE!!! Not only does he go over all the material, but he also goes step by step over what will be on the test (Often verbatim).
Wayyyyyyy hard. On the first exam everyone single one of his students got one of the 4 essay questions wrong. maybe he didnt teach it, all though he claims that he did. Very difficult tests. highest grade was an 89.
This professor really knows his stuff. Although, you do get a lot of information, if you study you can get an A. I did. Study with the study guide, and powerpoint. You don't even need the book.
Likeable guy. Very familiar with the subject. Fair in all regards. Take him.
Needs to realize that not everyone has or wants a PhD in Biology. Very hard. Take the class from a different professor. Comical at times but gets on a political soap box from time to time. Teach biology not polisci.
Dr. Kaufmann provides informative biology courses while keeping things interesting most of the time. His tests may be a little hard but if you take his study advice and pay close attetion to the quizzes and lectures you should get a great grade.
Horrible professor... Introductory Biology class seemed like it was for Biology majors. Has a weird, immature personality and an annoyingly high voice at times. He is one of the lazy teachers that likes to assign no other work than just 3 tests total for the entire class, so he wouldn't have to grade anything. He should be fired. Immediately.
Amazing and interesting prof. I loved his class and learned a lot more than bio.
TERRIBLE TEACHER...

he is a hard teacher? are u kidding? I mean come on this is college, you have to study for an exam to get a good grade. His tests are right off the lectures and he gives you a study guide and pratice quizes.. some of the questions on the practice quiz are even on the test. I barely went to lecture and i got an A. All u need to do is study! DUH!!
What a horrible teacher. he's soooo mean, and when u go talk to him alone, he'll act like he's helping you by answering all your questions and telling you what he might put on the test and what he won't, and you get to the test and its the opposite, everythign he promised not to put he spills all over the test. horrible. if you study ur guaranteed
OH MY GOD. THIS BIOLOGY CLASS IS VERY HARD AND HE MAKES IT HARDER.
Highly recommend this teacher!! He's easygoing and his lectures are to the point. Don't bother buying the book bc as long as you come to lecture, you'll be ready fot the tests. His study guides and practice problems are practically the same as the guestions he puts on the tests, just come to class and you'll do fine.
He doesn't like to teach and he complains too much about teaching too many courses.
He's funny and interesting!!The stuff he teach is useful and as long as you study the textbook and the notes, you will get A !!
It was difficult to follow his lecture. The office hour was helpless, and his disdainful attitude was impressive. Final grade based on ONLY 3 Midterms, which were TRICKY. Lab was EXTREMELY hard. Therefore, Not Recommended at all.
this class is great, it's easy if you study, kaufmann is really smart and funny.

Most of the people that whine about this professor are the ones who don't come to lecture and then are shocked when they fail the tests. COME TO CLASS. He tells you exactly what's goin to be on the test and gives prac quizzes. He's a nice guy with a good sense of humor, makes bio interesting and fun.
Hes seriously not a bad teacher. His tests are difficult, but I think people prepare as much as they want to. I recommend him as a Biology teacher. Tests are from the notes and his leactures are interesting.
I attended class 99% of the time and took notes, drew the pictures just in case and listened carefully. I dealt with his jokes and his talks about how the world is ending soon and how humans are a waste of time and killing the planet daily. If you like that then sign up for his class.
This class is pretty easy if you come to class and study your notes. Especially if you're taking the lab at the same time.
you have to come to every class and take good notes. he is very clear in his lectures and gives study guides. If you follow the study guides and come to class there is no way you cant pull an A or a B. dont buy the book. I never opened it.
Funny guy, but complains about how humans are destroying the planet and how we will be out of shrimp and fish in 30 years. Let's leave that to the brain-less celebrities who like to set lobsters free in grocery stores...
His M/C final was a joke! It was essentially the first two tests merged together with maybe 2-3 new questions. I enjoyed the class but his slides were disorganized and all the effort we put into the lab book was wasted as he took all of 5 seconds to grade each student's lab book. Some students struggled but his tests weren't all that challenging.
I think he was a funny teacher and was very helpful, I missed a test and he let me retake it another time. Bio 5 is a lot of memorization but if you put in the work, you get the grade you deserve. I highly recommend this teacher.
The tests r tricky. For first test, u have to memorize the scientists' names. Very few extra credit. But written short essays r easy.Don't leave a blank.Write sth u know about the topic and u will get some points.Take notes and study.u can read the books to comprehen more,so u will do well on the tests.
Great teacher! Very funny, easy going, and knows his stuff. His tests are kind of tricky sometimes but if you study lecture notes and the power points then you will do fine
A gifted lecturer. Course is very well organized and presented. Lots of material, but presented in interesting, memorable way. Outstanding teacher, great course!
this teacher ruled. he was nice and funny, taught really well, and he's HOT.
I took bio 94 with professor kaufmann Fall 07. He is a wonderful teacher and has very interesting lectures, I also thought he was hilarious. This class isn't easy but if you attend class, take notes, & use his powerpoints you will do well.
Really helpful and as long as you take notes you will do well.
I took Kaufmann just for the Bio lab and it was my only B at IVC!! Fretz and Sharar are the best.
if you are a bad testtaker you might want to avoid.the grade is divided by 4 tests only.Study the guides and practices quiz, they help.I didn't go to his office hour, but Im telling you to go. for the final, you must know what you got wrong past 3 exams, because he merges them.Show up class and off hours to get his attention,he curves for ur favor.
I hate Biology but Kaufman made it not so scary. He thinks he's funny so laugh at his jokes. DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK! He doesn't use the text but only for reference. The tests come from your notes, so make sure there good.
To be honest, his class are boring and very sleepy. He has a soft voice that drive you to sleep easily plus he goes too fast on his powerpoint lecture. There are 4 multiple choice tests which are hard because you need to read the book in order to answer almost 1/2 of the test. He's not that great like other ratings.
Took him for Bio1 Lab and came to every class, did well on most quizzes and still got a B. I had a 4.0 before this. He wont bump your overall score even for 1 point. He can be condescending to some people and thinks he knows everything.
Took his online lecture class and got a B. It's pretty easy, all you have to do is take the tests 2-3 hours before they're due and just take it with a friend and you can get an A!
He's cool! I know his son.
This was a pretty tough class. There were a couple A's. The class was pretty depressed after the final. I thought he was really funny, I would go to his class just for fun if I was on campus and had nothing else to do. Advice-learn every single detail of every topic thats covered, thats how the A students are separated from the B students.
This Person enjoys giving F's. He has 4 exams which are on a graduate level not a college level. I attended class every time never missed ones but still didn't pass the class because of his retard expectations and tricky multiple choice exams. I do not recommend to anyone because he makes you regret choosing Biology as a major. Expects details..
Took Bio 1 Online -tests were hard not always from lecture. He must be busy as getting a response from email is impossible. Double check your answers on tests some are subjective and can be marked wrong. Bio is just a hard subject for most I recommend this class for online Bio easier than most and way easier than a regular go to class.
If you study, this is not a hard class. If you don't, well, you don't really want the grade anyway. He tells you what he will test you on so there are no surprises. He is fair but don't try to get special treatment because he won't play favorites.
I am currently taking his Bio1 class right now. He's not an easy teacher compared to others. I am only doing really well in his class is because I read the textbook. i don't attend his class at all. I just read the textbook chapters and take the test. if you hate tests and rely on homework and extra credit for your grade. NOT FOR YOU.
not recommended. He punishes you for his own laziness. because he doesn't want to read papers and he doesn't want to take rule, students should pay the price.test questions are NOT always from the lecture and they are exteremly TRICKY.
He is not the best professor. He is very lazy and comes across as very arrogant. He was always late to class and we were always really behind in our work. His tests aren't always fair, he asks questions that he didn't even go over in class. He is also very boring, I was always falling asleep in his class. I would not recommend taking him
Not helpful at all. Test questions are not just tricky they aren't covered in matrial many times. Avoid this professor!
Took his online course. He seems very disorganized, unresponsive, and arrogant. His attempt at humor in his emails is always lacking. His test questions are totally unrelated to the reading material in the text book or his online 'modules' and can be considered as TRICKY or UNFAIR, at best. It may be that the class is geared toward graduate-level s
He is very unorganized, showed up late almost every class. DOESNT GIVE OUT STUDY GUIDES or give pointers to what will be on the exam which is ridiculously hard. Excepts you to know everything covered. I dont recommend this class with him or any of his. You have to study your a$$ off just to get a C. Never used to the textbook for anything.
He is very unorganized, showed up late almost every class. DOES NOT GIVE OUT STUDY GUIDES or pointers to what will be on the test which is HARD. Expects you to know everything. You have to study day/night just to get a C. Would not rec. this class or professor. In general dont take this class unless youre a bio major.
Very knowledgeable in Biology. Ask him about any organism and he'll give you a detailed information on it. Lectures are clear and detailed. Lots of info. Makes you thinks of Bio in a diff perspective. On quizzes and tests, however, he's not clear on what he exactly expects students to study. Tends to get lazy. Class itself is hard. Def no easy A
Grading structure makes no sense. Half the lab class is based on Quizzes and a final. You would figure since its a LAB class most the overall grade would reflect "LAB" work. Not so. It would be like grading a swimming class mostly on folding towels and pool maintenance then actual swimming.
Always late. Hard to understand. Makes it difficult. Mostly lectures. Didn't use the text much. Don't take.
Does not test your knowledge, but rather tries to fail you with TRICKY questions. If youre a good student who studies hard, you will find him extremely unfair.
Online Class--You have a total of 8 exams and one final; answers to the exam come straight from the powerpoints. No homework, No extra credit, but he drops one of your lowest test scores. Never replies to emails your basically on your own. Don't expect him to remind you when exam dates are, b/c he don't reset exams regardless of the situation.
Teaches with passion and humor. Tests very practically and reasonably. Really will help students but can easily get distracted. However, the material that needs to be covered in the short period of time can make lab and lecture difficult to manage. Cover material before lab. Definitely take.
Online class: One of the worst teachers. Tries to be funny in his unclear power points, grammatically incorrect and confusing in all the tests. Information in there are outdated, do not recommend. You don't have a chance of getting an A with this careless professor.
ONLINE BIO. Worst teacher you will ever have. Not worth it! He doesn't email back yet it's all online, sends out emails saying "he's getting harassed" because every student emails him and he doesn't respond. Terrible teaching thru nonsense PowerPoints that are outdated. Final is a joke, must time yourself or it will cost you your grade.NOT WORTH IT
WORST ONLINE CLASS EVER. Due dates are very inconsistent. Online tests were often not open on the posted time. Final was inconveniently open only for a 16 hour time slot with no exceptions. Never responded to emails. All tests were word for word from the powerpoint. No textbook required. Truly a very disorganized man. Highly NOT RECOMMENDED.
If you are not a Biology major, this class is going to be extremely difficult for you. While the material is difficult, the professor is willing to help and as long as you pay attention in class and take good notes, you should be able to pass the class.
He's an ok professor, he makes his tests really tricky but he is more than willing to help you with topics you don't understand. Make sure you take notes and write down EVERYTHING he says and show up to EVERY lecture, he will mention things that will be on the test that isn't on the powerpoints on blackboard. Online quizzes are fairly easy though.
Took this class online. He says he'll never respond to emails that don't have the class# as the subject but he doesn't respond even if you do. He posted the last test before the final a week early & students complained, so he's making everyone retake a diff version(even ppl who already took it) 2 days before the final? please communicate w/students
Very intelligent professor.Fair grading.I personally like him a lot study is power points and you'll do good.
This guy is the real deal. Do not take his class. You will regret it. Does not help his student and he is arrogant. If he does give an extra problem set, he thinks he just donated million dollars or something. He is a harsh grader. His notes have mistakes and confuses you for the test. Worst teacher in IVC,Not helpful.
He is a very intelligent professor, but kind of arrogant. He is funny at times, but can come off as rude. If you want an A in his class, you need to listen to all his lectures, b/c his lectures are his tests.. literally. I personally never touched the book, so it's not really used. Also, keep your lab jrnal well-detailed.
Do not take this class if you want to get an A.
This professor is awesome. The class is tough, but completely fair. If you put in the effort (make flash cards, terms list, study groups) an A is very doable. Lab portion is insightful, but a bit long at times. Keep a well detailed lab journal! Overall, I'd recommend him 10/10 times. His lectures are fantastic.
Hardest Teacher Ever!! I studied 5 hours everyday to prepare for exams and the questions on test had nothing to do with what I studied. Want to Fail? Take this class. He wrote the book, so you could imagine all the information he gives. He teaches his students like his alma mater UC Berkley. :((((
Great Teacher. Lectures are very engaging, his tangents are useful, his stories are thrilling. Go in during office hours to get clarification, study power points, make a terms list (bio is a whole new language), review notes. GO TO CLASS. Not an impossible A. If you are an A student you will do well.
He is really intelligent but can be arrogant at times. He is completely fair when it comes to grading. His lectures are really interesting and he keeps you engaged with related tangent stories. As long as you keep up with the work and do your part you'll be fine!!!
Kaufmann is very interesting. I enjoyed his class, but if you have trouble focusing this is not for you. He goes off on tangents a lot, which I liked but lost some people's focus. Study guides are helpful for tests. Very fair grader and one extra credit opportunity. I enjoyed his personality but some may find him arrogant. You just HAVE to study.
Lectures were interesting at times, but he went off on a lot of tangents and stories. Labs were excessively long and you have to wait even though you are done with lab for the lab manual stamp each class. You have to be very specific on the essay questions on the lab or you will lose a lot of points. Hard grader, but offers help during office hours
Awesome teacher, really loves the material. Im more of a molecular bio person, but he made these subjects interesting. A lot of memorization, but all bio classes are. He is a sweet guy and wants students to learn. Wish he taught more than environmental sciences. He engages with the students as he lectures, which is key for me to remember and learn!
Love Dr. Kaufmann, he's easily conversational about difficult biological concepts. Ready to help if you know what to ask for. Study guides are very vague though. The tests are what got me the B over an A, they ask randomly specific questions that are hardly covered in lecture . Practicals are okay, offers lots of EC.
Best biology professor at irvine valley very smart guy highly recommend.
5 q's on weekly quizzes from 1-2 chapters There's times where quizzes are fair other times where he tries to make it harder on us other times where he makes all answers the same letter Midterm was ok some quiz q's were on there. but study guide for exam 2 was vague. final guide was even more confusing. final felt like i was taking a diffrnt class
in overall, he likes to go off saying we should all be engineers. he said it himself once he doesn't care and he is only there for his pay. he is not helpful so don't come in thinking he's going to help you if you don't understand a certain chapter. if you want to fail then take this class. all that studying for nothing.
You can get by not buying the book - saved you money If you want to pass: go over his rudimentary powerpoints religiously complains a lot how technology is ruining the student a.k.a cell phones he'll give you extra points if you come to class consistency at the end of the semester. prepare to study a lot if you want an A or B
I don't understand why people are complaining about prof Kaufmann. Sure, bio is a tough subject but if you study the ppts provided to you then this class is manageable. Kauffman is a fair prof that does not test material outside of the ppts. You do not even need the book. Overall there are 3 exams and 10 quizzes that are based only off of the ppts.
Expects you to know 10 plus terms for each exam. He doesn't give out extra credit or any homework. It is strictly based on quizzes and exams. If you are that type of person that loves to take extremely difficult quizzes and exams, by all means take him. He believes he's god gift to man kind, he thinks he's funny, & he's so so so rude
He lectures for the whole class and his lectures seem easy until you take the quiz. The quiz questions always deal with minute details. At least the midterm & final are easier because he tests general ideas. He published the wrong answer for the quiz key & didn't email us to tell us it was wrong until 20 minutes before class, so I got them wrong.
I really enjoyed being in his class. I did feel like I learned a lot and he is a teacher that cares about his students! During his lectures you have to take a lot of notes and really listen to what he is saying because not everything he says is on his PowerPoint. Do the online quizzes and show up to class and you will pass the class.
DON'T TAKE!!!! He is nice, but not helpful at all! He is close to retirement so he is not really concerned with how his students do on the exams which are majority of the grade. His tests and quiz questions are all trick questions! First exam 80% of class received 65% or less meaning the best they could do from there was a C. Waist of time and GPA.
i had a 4.0 GPA before taking this class. this course was the only one left before i can transfer. I took it online. with all the hard work I got a C which i am not happy at all. there is lots of materials to learn. mudule exam questions are very tricky and confusing. study guids are povided super late, no extra credit
Guy is a nut. Very long and boring lectures. Thinks he is extremely funny. calls out students in front of class.
if you can spend more than 3 hours per week, you will be fine for every tests.
I took Bio in high school and absolutely hated it but his class made me love bio so much more. Lectures were interesting and he related everything to other things so it'd make more sense. He does lecture pretty much everyday, but it's not that bad. Open note quizzes weekly and easy midterms. Study a little and its an easy A
His powerpoints and lectures make no sense. He expects us to go on full research mode outside of his class, which is probably why his lectures and powerpoints don't help at all when taking the midterms.
A lot of memorization. MUST attend lectures to get an understanding of what will be on exams. Engaging and explains things well, using topics learned to relate back to the real world. Labs consist of drawing slides mostly. Do not be fooled by his laidback-ness. This class is no joke. Need to study hella to prep for exams & lab practicums.
Barely got an A. Was well worth it though. Hes a gifted speaker and isnt as bad as people made him out to be. The material is easy, but the exams are in depth. But all material you need to know is in the power point and textbook. Take good notes, make a nice hearty quizlet for each exam, study hard and youll get the A. Class is honestly not bad.
This teacher is ridiculous he gives out boring online PPT and expect you to understand and finish all the quiz. Btw his quiz is only open for 8 hours. Also, he does not reply to emails. So he is definitely worth the name for an F prof.
This class is really easy. I took it online and honestly it's a good class for the summer. You take an exam a week for 8 weeks. If you read the ppts and read the study guide, you'll get an A. The discussions are also really simple and take at most 15 minutes to do. There's a lot of info to take in each week but it's an 8 week class, so it's fair.
This man made so many writing mistakes in his non peer-reviewed lab manual oh lawd help me survive this semester.
Highly unprofessional. Shows up to class 15 - 20 minutes late on a regular basis. Spends another 15 minutes ranting about how humans are awful beings. Lectures only give a superficial overview of the content. He'll mark textbook definitions wrong on exams. No thinking needed, just memorize your way to an A. Disappointing, soul-less curriculum.
ridiculous amounts of material. my notes ended up being over 50 types pages per test. study guide is not helpful whatsoever, please do not rely on study guide. it may help you with a couple questions at most on over 50 question test. he does not guide you and just talks and talks, does not get to the point.
I actually enjoyed this class, he is hilarious in his lectures and you can tell he really loves the topic. On lab exams, really try to know the different parts of each specimen, label your lab reports thoroughly. On Exams really know the differences between angiosperm vs gymnosperm etc The essay portion has many of these. You will memorize a lot.
He is a very uncaring, unmotivated professor. He is reluctant to answer questions during lectures, and reads off the slides. He was often late to lectures. The exams are not hard, but the lab practicums are made for failure. They are often not directly from the lab, but from old lectures. The averages for them were 50% for the last few. No hw given
This man is literally so passionate about what he teaches and listening to him lecture is so much fun cause he has one of those cool voices that just keeps you engaged the entire time. He's also very responsive to emails and willing to explain everything thoroughly.
Professor Kaufmann is a very nice professor, he teaches very well and one of the few professors that have a live zoom class.
This guy is such a well rounded caring professor. He is good at teaching and is reasonable in everything he does.
Be ready to read a lot but I think it's normal since it's a Biology class so what do you guys expect. I took his class which was completely online so there wasn't any video lecture. Just make sure to read the presentation carefully and read the textbook too then you'll get good grades. Also, make sure to study the quizzes since they are important.
Amazing lectures! Passionate about what he teaches, explains concepts super well, is so helpful & patient in office hours. A little disorganized, though. Not much assigned HW, but you need to study hard (keep a terms list/make flashcards); exams are tons of points. Tough lab practica- study with a classmate and make mock practicums for each other.
I tried to join his zoom lectures couple of times, he can explain really good but hes so off topic and sometimes when he tries to give examples he make it so long that you forget what he was even talking about. There is a weekly quiz and one day I was in the ER I emailed him and told him I cant take the test he ignored me!!
Unorganized, petty, very slow grader, & his tests/practicums consistently average low scores. When you point out a mistake, he'll assume that it's partially the students fault. If the class is behind schedule, he'll assign multiple chapters the following week. If you ask him a question, he'll answer a different one. Office hours are rarely helpful.
I would rather drop out of college than take another class with him, his attitude and personality are extremely unprofessional, I've been at IVC for a year and all the other professors were nice and helpful. so I was very disappointed when I took his class and expected him to care for the students. this class ruined my GPA and his exams are hard.
HE IS SO UNORGANIZED!!!!! He started grading assignments from September at the end of November. Midterms are confusing and the study guides NEVER help. He will never reply to emails and straight up ignores you for days even if you respond the minute after he writes back. AWFUL EXPERIENCE
I took him online in Spring 2021 and he was not understanding of students' circumstances at all! His study guides were very useless and he was generally unorganized and unprofessional. Don't take it unless you think that you're good with bio and are willing to teach yourself
he was ok, wasn't the worst, and wasn't the best. Using TopHat was a pain but it was what he used for the course. The homework was not difficult at all since it was just packets. MAKE SURE TO DO QUIZZES he will NOT reopen them if you miss them. The midterm was easy but the final was really difficult since it was everything from the beginning.
Professor is really lenient with deadlines and his quizzes are pretty easy (although sometimes has annoying wording). His quizzes and exams are heavily based on the lecture notes and study guide. Lab practicums are also based on lab manuals and notes. Definitely would be an easy A if you are not taking any other stem classes (Ochem or Phys).
Really funny guy but he always goes on tangents during lecture which causes him to make lectures longer than it needs to be. Make sure you take good notes and go back to lecture slides to study because his study guides don't really help. His tests are really hard so I really recommend studying at least a week before to memorize material.
Chill professor. Lectures the whole time. Test heavy. Doesn't allow cheat sheets :(
Professor Kaufmann was the BEST. He's super helpful during office hours and because he's so passionate about what he teaches it makes the class so much fun. He gives out a lot of easy points such as open-book quizzes to boost your grade and a lot of those questions are on his tests, and tests are ALL based on his lectures so no need for the book.
Prof K was amazing, and made a difficult class really easy to understand and enjoy. I loved going to his lectures/labs; the classroom environment was super lively. You must study a lot, but that's inherent to the subject. It's obvious how passionate he is about the subject and his students. KEEP A TERMS LIST!!! Miss you already prof
I was pretty scared of taking his class last semester given the large volume of low ratings, but he was a great professor. He's really funny, pretty no-nonsense, and also really lenient with late work. Using the lab manual as a study aid was really helpful for the tests and lab practicas. Attendance is pretty important and so is taking notes.
Took him for BIO80 and got an A. It should be an easy A as long as you really invest your time in it and listen to his lecture. Definitely my favorite professor here in IVC EVER. Had a great time last semester and I truly appreciate his effort in his teaching.
Pretty decent guy--funny, keeps class light-hearted, makes jokes. 4 lab practica (identify/label slides/images), 3 lec exams (MC & short ans), 1 cumulative final (all MC), 1-2 projects. Use the lecture ppts to study for lec&lab exams!! Lots of slides, but good content in there & great study tool. I never did any study guides, just used quizlet& ppt
nice professor
Chill and funny professor. Class based on 3 exams: 2 multiple choice/free response midterms, and a 100% multiple choice final. As long as you use quizlet to study for exams and lab practicums you'll get an A.
Professor Kaufmann is a chill and funny lecturer. The class relies heavily on exam performance, but using study aids like Quizlet and unstuck AI alongside the lecture slides can help you ace the tests. Attendance is a must, but the workload is manageable if you stay on top of it.
