I hate math. I like jeff. If you're just taking math for a GE, mr. Shirley is the only way to go. He's not flat out easy, but it's as good as your'e gonna get for any math class. Also, he's a great guy.

The best math teacher in DeAnza in terms of easiness and clarity. Mr Shirley knows his material and is always willing to help. Awful lots of extra-credit will help you succeed in his classes.Accessible exams and highly probability to get an A guarranteed!

Shirley knows what he is talking about. I really recommend this guy, easy style of teaching at the same time your understand the basics of trigonometry. He is really funny I learn so much taking his class.

very cool. knows what he's doing and saying. calm and easy going. very helpfull at expaning question you might not get. its not boring like the other math classes. there is nothing bad to say about jefferson.

Wonderful teacher. He is the best out there, clear, easy to understand. He values student input and encourages students to ask questions during his lectures and accepts criticism. Any of you people that give him 1's are lacking of all intelligence.

what can i say that hasn't already been said? he's a great teacher and person. first math class that i had that i acutally enjoy going to. he loves to help out and teach.. easy class.. great teacher.. would recommend highly.

Mr. shirley takes time to explain anything you are not clear about. He gives out pop quizzes, but if you had done your homeowork, they are piece of cake! One of the few teachers who makes the class fun and you actually learn something from it!!

Jefferson Shirly is DA BOMB!! Too bad he isnt here now. He's at Berkeley for Ph.D.

He is an excellent teacher!! He really takes time to explain everything and his office is always open if you need more help. Very clear and concise. I really enjoyed his teaching style and his class

i took mr. shirley for trig during the summer and it was quite fun. although we had alot of material to cover in a short period of time he handled it pretty well by explaining things very clearly. it was a pretty easy course as long as you know your trig.

awesome teacher, explains everything well and has a sense of humor. makes class interesting and is very helpful in lab hours. doesnt take roll or collect homework. 5 point quizzes once or twice a week.take this teacher!

Great teacher. He's funny, but don't think that you can slack in his class. Gives extra credit if you do hw problems on the board, so do the hw! Quizzes are not hard if you do the hw too. Just watch out for his tests. Tricky T/F questions test on concepts. Know concepts well!!!!

I didn't really like Math till i took MR. Shirley, he is the best teacher i ever had. Very easy going and he actually taught me a lot of things that i wouldn't have learned with other teachers. Test are easy if you study a little. Explains everything in the way that eveyone gets it. I GIVE HIM A++++

Shirley's got a great sense of humor and makes class fun & interesting! His teaching style is SUPER.Very clear & understandable.He's also willing to help.I hated math b4 his class, but I love it now.Tests and quizzes are fair.You will do well as long as you pay attention in class & take notes.

He makes Calc look like a piece of cake. He's one of those teachers where you can actually learn a lot and still get an easy A. If you come to class and take notes, there's no need to do homework. Take him, trust me. He's a cool guy.

Shirley is fab!! His class is easy and he makes calculus much more fun. Open notes quizzes, lots of extra credit. Easy A. Take him! He's so cool!! Some exams may be a bit hard, but, as long as you do well in assignments, then it won't be a problem.

Mr. Shirley is really cool lots of extra credit, cool guy and makes calc really easy although watch out for his FINAL its hella hard but thet rest of the exams are fair and easy. Shirley is very clear but at times he could be really lazy but take him.

This class is easy only because Mr. Shirley makes it easy by great teaching and awesome examples. If you don't pass this class with a B or better, you have issues. I highly recommend this instructor to any student.

Dude, Jefferson's the man. Youthful, approachable, and clear in class. Doesn't collect homework - awesome! Take his class if you can, I think he's a part time teacher, but should be a permanent one. A+

Wow! Calculus is so cool w/ shirley. The thing about Shirley's class is tho the material is tricky and hard,he makes it so its extremely clear and doable! Teaches very clearly, offters examples, and takes time to make sure that the students understand the material. If you're taking notes, he makes sure you can get them all down before moving on. Also, he is really funny. A real shock for a math teacher.

Mr. Shirley is an AWESOME teacher! He teaches well and is sucha funny character himself. =P His class isn't all that hard at all, just take notes, and study off them for tests! Also, his quizzes are open-book and he lets you work in groups of 3 half the time... it's definitely a MUST-TAKE class! =).

Shirley is an awesome teacher. He will actually slow down if the class is going too fast and has a sense of humor - not boring. lets you use notes on tests. Tests are not hard as long as you do assignments. Watch out for his final, it's way harder than tests. Offers extra credit if do hw on board.

How bout de truth? He is HARD but a cool/funny teacher. His assignments r very hard, no curves, but a fair amt of EC. I wouldn't say he is the easiest/most helpful teacher but quite amusing. Every1 who gave him 5 for easiness r the smart 1, wut bout the avg ppl?u have 2 try hard.real hard.seriously

Why do people think he is easy? I failed the first two tests, and I studied. His tests are way hard. He allows notes but cannot really rely on them when taking tests because only have 1 hour. He does allow ti-89

Very laid back teacher. I hate math, but taking his class makes math more enjoyable. His lectures were easy to understand because he shows you how to do everything step by step. And if you still don't get it, he takes the time to go over it with you until you get it. Also, he tries to remember everyones names, I think makes him cooler.

He is a relatively good teacher. Sometimes rushes through things really w/o explaining it; gives formulas without really going through the reasoning behind it. He will slow down if you ask. Is helpful if you go during office hours.

Excellent teacher will slow down to explain if asked. Assignments can be hard, tests are easier. KNOWS HOW TO TEACH. Weekly quizzes and homework from the text. Takes an interest in his students and is very sociable with a good sense of humor. Very few teachers compare to him. He makes the subject understandable. He's very encouraging to students.

Mr. Shirley changed my perspective on math so much that I actually looked forward to math class. He expects a lot, but will do anything to help a student reach his high standards; even handing out note cards for test notes.Personality wise, very charming and sometimes takes a break from the math lesson for a story about his life.

great teacher. If you do the homework and assignments you can get an A quite easily. assignments are a lot harder than exams, but you can have notes during exams also. a lot of extra credit available. He goes through things over and over until you get them, so that makes it a lot easier. Overall, he is a great teacher and i recommend him.

Jeff is a cool guy. He knows his math and he can break down hard stuff into easy stuff. You can tell he loves what he does, which makes going to class everyday fun and challenging.

he teaches stuff straight to the point. easily understoood, plenty extra credit to get u A++++. for students who are really trying, i went over his max points by 150pts! and i flunked my final and got an A. you dont get this kind of teacher once u get to UCs~. hail to Jefferson Shirley!

Jeff is a great professor who enjoys helping others learn the subject. Easy grading and lots of extra credit to make up for missed points. I would highly recommend Jeff for any math class.

AWESOME-funny & DOESN'T even have to try to be! engaging & UNboring teaching style! quizzes once a wk, but they're often OPENbook, GROUP, or TAKEHOME so NO worries. do his assign. and study from them, only 1 assign before each exam. 3 exams, drops 1. goes over each exam thoroughly before! open EVERYTHING on final! A LOT of extra credit. easy A++.

ook... mr.shirley is very very nice !!! he is helpful!! quiz everyday, yet it is open book and open note. i just realize that the quiz is really worth because it makes the students to keep up with what he is teaching. lots of extra credit. i really hate calculus before, but he makes me want to go to the class and understand calculus.

There is plenty of extra- credit, assigments and final are not easy as everyone claimed. Overall is easy class if you study and work hard if you dont care much you will ge a B like me.

Class is easy but keep on track, so you dont get a bad grade. Quizzes are not open book but fairly easy. Three exams lowest score is dropped. On each exam you are allowed one sheet of notes. The final is open notes, but it isnt helpful you really need to know what you're doing because the final is really really long not enough time to look at not

he is really good at teaching! you can drop one of 3 midterms so if you do well on 2, you can just skip the last one. he also doesn't collect homework. quiz every class, but it's easy.

Good atmosphere. Presents each section in a straight forward manner. Never checks HW so you must be self motivated to learn the math. Allows notes for exams. Final is very difficult.

Professor Jefferson Shirley is awesome, funny, helpful, and easy!!! Grades fair and you get to use one page of notes during the exams. There are 3 exams total and 1 final, quizzes are fairly easy, most are group work. there are also projects , really easy. I wish he was teaching Math 1A next quarter. You inspire me, Mr. Shirley!!

Dont be fooled his class isnt THAT easy. Just easier than most teachers but you still need to do your work. That said I love his class, teaching style and sense of humor. Getting notes on the test is so helpful because I hate memorizing every formula. He tests to see if you can use a formula not if you have it memorized.

He's a great teacher; very easy if you do all your work. There are 3 exams, 3 assignments, 1 project, and 6 homework sets. He drops the lowest exam score, and the lowest homework set. He allows 1 page of notes (front/back) on an exam, and some of his quizzes are take home. Final exam is open notes/ open book! EASY CLASS TAKE HIM!

jeff is a really good techer if u do all the homwork and assiments you are granetd to pass his class with A. his assiments are hard but test are easy. i reall yrecomand u to take him but you have to study to pass and if u don't you get an F.

Fairly easy class. Very clear lectures and accent-free! Gives 20 EC points. Assignments are somewhat difficult but quizzes and exams are easy. Funny guy. I wish he taught pre-calc!

mr. shirley is the best thing to happen to de anza. if you have the chance to be in his class...don't give it a second thought.

mr shirley is pretty cool...trig is just a hard math but he does a decent job teaching it. make sure you do hw and ask questions in class. he is also a chill teacher and will crack some jokes now and then.

Mr. Shirley was one of the best instructors i've ever had! He collects homework but attendance wasn't mandatory although he DID mind if you were gone. His lectures were very clear, and you RARELY needed the book since he teaches you everything. I wish he taught math 114 this qtr :(

He is the most amazing math teacher ever. I know I sound very 16ish but I am serious. Math was the only subject that was holding me back and he makes it so easy. He answers every question and is really laid back. If you fail this class its because your too busy talking and don't listen. So its your own fault. Good luck!

Jefferson can be a little mopey.ha. but he's just laid back. I strongly disagree with him not caring. what he deals with in 210 make him the most patient person EVER!! that class is chaotic. Weak point: I was so damn bored from him stopping to see if everyone understood. I wish he would have challenged me more.
