Very good professor! Pretty easy class, but you learn a lot if you actually attend class.
Awesome class! i loved discussing philosophy with him and the class. i always WANTED to be there. i was interested in the topics that were discussed and professor nielson was nice, wise, unbias, and fun to discuss with.
He's tight. He's easy. Class is interesting.
Old man Nielsen is very nice, but he's not the greatest teacher. His class is extremely easy, but I don't feel I learned much from taking this course.
I like philosophy a lot. Jeff does a good job a teaching some of its finer points. Lots of class discussion(although my class participation was minimum for the most part i. e. lots of people going through the motion of getting their humanities credit). But I enjoyed this class. Take it. You'll enjoy it. Great teacher.
I loved this teacher. He lets you do all the extra credit you want. He is very fair. He doesn't ever lecture. It is always discussion. Tests are really easy.
Very interesting teacher. He is focused much more on teaching and making sure you learn, and grades are an after thought.
Awesome teacher! I was worried because im half retarded when it comes to philosophy but Jeff made it fun and very interesting. I learned a ton and now think of things like they have never been thought before. good stuff!
Jeff is a really good teacher. I would highly recommend
Great teacher. He is very social and funny. He will help you with everything he can. He based our entire grade on participation. Class was very easy, and we had a lot of interesting discussions.
Prof Nielsen is the best teacher I have ever had!! His classes are a big discussion and he make's t alot of fun! Being a older student school has been a challenge but this class was a breath of fresh air!! Wonderful teacher.. If you want to enjoy Ethics & Values this teacher is the one for you
He's an okay professor. Nice guy, but a bit flaky.
MOST AMAZING TEACHER I'VE EVER HAD! IF YOU GO TO CLASS, YOU WILL GET AN "A". COME TO CLASS PREPARED (DO READING BEFORE CLASS). CLASS DISCUSSIONS ARE ALWAYS A LOT OF FUN! IF HE TAUGHT OTHER SUBJECTS... I WOULD TAKE THEM ALL!
Great guy, great class
TAKE THIS CLASS IN THE SUMMER! this is THE ethics and values class to take. he is really nice and going to class was never a chore. grade in class was based off of participation and test were super easy. he "assigns" reading but never really checks if you did it or not but I would recommend you do so as the reading is really good!
Great class great guy! I thought this was going to be a boring class but I enjoyed going to his class he makes it interesting and works with you and makes it easy for you to get an A in his class take ethics and values from him!
I really enjoyed this class. The teacher makes it fun and easy to participate in class. The character exercises were really cool and I am still doing them even though I am not in the class anymore! I would definitely recommend him!!
Mr. Nielsen is a great teacher. He's very passionate about the subject and I love his approach. He's very interested in student feedback and the discussions are great. Read your texts so you can contribute. Fun, therapeutic class.
If you want to learn and ton AND get an easy A, Jeff is the guy to take Ethics and Values from. He is really smart, nice, helpful, and teaches enjoyable stuff. I took this class because I had to, but I learned a ton. Easiest A i have gotten, one of the best classes I have been in.
Awesome professor!! This is how philosophy should be taught. Pretty much every class was a group discussion about the reading. There were quizzes about once a week and a project at the end, but if you pay attention in class it's very hard to not get an A.
Great teacher! The class was interesting. He wants to make a change in your life and get you thinking more then he wants to make you memorize things. The mid-term was open book open note.
lOVED HIM!! Take this in the summer! Its so easy, and hes the best! There are no papers, couple of quizes which he lets you know whats going to be on them. His energy for this subject is so great. Hes so passionate for the class and subject. Plus he is hilarious! Class discussions were the best!
You wont be disappointed. Class was entertaining, enjoyable, humorous, and reflective. Nielson is passionate about his work and it shows through his lectures. LOVED HIM
Awesome course! Professor Nielsen loves his job and it is reflected in his teaching style. Course work was manageable.
Seriously one of the most passionate and dedicated professors. He loves his topics. He loves his students. The class was enjoyable. I am even going to try and take him again even though he is outside my major. Take him!!!
Jeff is an amazing professor! I loved taking his class. His lectures are more like class discussions, and everyone got involved. He inspires his students to think outside of the box, and look at things through different lenses. The assignments weren't tough, were based around building character, and becoming a better person. Take his class!
He is a great professor. You'll learn a ton, but it will not be hard. The final was a take home test and the midterm was taken as a class.
Jeff is the most passionate professors I've had since being in school. He loves what he does, leads great discussions, and really helps you to see how you can use philosophical thinking to better your attitude and relationships with those around you. I would recommend him to anyone, whether it's your major or just an elective.
Loved his class. He was more focused on helping you to understand the material than being focused on your grade. Midterm was open note and let us collaborate with classmates towards the end. He forgot to put a final on the syllabus so he didn't even give us one. I felt like I learned a lot from his class and I would definitely recommend him.
He is very enthusiastic about what he teaches. There is a group project at the end of class, a skit. You have to do a journal everyday, and a character exercise every week. It's easy work. His midterms and quizzes are easy. He is a great teacher and this is definitely a class you should take, especially for your ethics/ values requirement. Easy A
Easy A. Class lectures were a little boring because I'm not too big into philosophy. He lets you do the Midterm and Final in groups.
Jeff is so great! His lectures are engaging and he makes the class fun and enjoyable. There really isn't a need to buy any of the books he tells you to, because most of the readings are also on canvas. He is super understanding and accommodating. Just come to class and simply do what he asks.. He really sets you up for success.
FANTASTIC TEACHER! Vocab quizzes, super easy and sometimes take home. Group project for the final was the only paper I ever wrote, but I just honestly loved is class. I always walked away feeling so enlightened and it will change your life. It was more than a easy 'A' &actually a class that gave me so much peace &taught me to be happy with my life
Jeff was an amazing professor! All of the lectures were deep and thought provoking. You have a 10 question quiz every Friday that is due on Saturday at midnight. Tests can be done in groups and there were only 3 papers spread out through the semester. I learned a lot and had great experience in his class. I would take it again!
Good professor, but a lot of busy work. There's a learning journal and a weekly vocab quiz, and in all about 3 papers. It is a pretty easy class if you're willing to do all the busy work.
I love Professor Nielson! If you take Phil 2050 from anyone, take it from him!! He's so passionate about the subject and you'll learn a lot. Do the readings to participate, you'll get out of this class what you put into it. He doesn't just teach about philosophy, his goal throughout the class is to help you become a better person. Great class!!
He was a fantastic teacher. We did a lot of discussion, as expected, but if we got on an interesting tangent, he would run with it, because we were engaged, and he would use that to continue teaching us.
Great Professor, is actively engaged in lectures and invites discussion. Clear on grading and assignments, gives extra credit and help where needed.
He is funny and a great lecturer. Makes learning fun and inspirational. Weekly work: character exercises, learning journal and quiz. Seems like a lot but its not. All the reading material can be found on canvas. He offers extra credit several times so getting an A is easy!
This class is literally an easy A. Nielsen kinda has a strange view on things, and can be kinda awkward, but for the gist of things he is really nice, and clearly outlines everything you need to succeed in class. 2 tests that are open note and only 2 short papers. Show up, take some simple notes, and you'll pass easy
The class has a TON of busy work so be prepared for that. It is repetitive but also very easy. The tests are online and a little difficult but you can do lots of extra credit to make up for it. Don't bother buying a textbook, and attending class is not necessary. Professor Nielsen does love ethics and is a nice guy. I would take another class w him
There were a few moments of political leaning, but probably 1% or less. Jeffrey was a great teacher and was really passionate about his topic. Participation makes the class go more smoothly. Sometimes takes time to get back to you if you e-mail him. Always easy to talk to after class. Pay attention and do the reading, no textbook required.
Professor Nielsen is really good. He's super kind and personal. He knows what he is talking about and keeps things interesting. You don't have too much homework, just a few papers, but there is a lot of reading. He expects you to read several papers before each class in order to participate in discussions.
I LOVED this class. Jeffery is super nice and makes class really fun and interesting. You essentially have big class discussions every day and quizzes are super easy. Even the final paper & final exam were pretty easy. I really enjoyed classes and we always had really great discussions.
This was a fun class to be a part of, esepecially since it was filled with a lot of deep thinking and self evaluating. I not only learned the morals, values, and beliefs of the philosophers, but I also learned how to apply them to my life for the for the better.
This class was extremely easy, unorganized, and basic. I did not learn much from this course. He does a lot of class discussion, which was mostly surface level. He kind of treats his students like he is teaching an LDS primary class. 4 required texts, but you don't have to read them thoroughly (SparkNotes is fine). Easy A, but didn't learn much.
There's a few papers you have to write but they are very easy. All of his quizzes and the final are online and it's always open note. He's a very understanding teacher and tries to help his students succeed. Loved this class, highly recommend taking anything from this professor!!!
A great professor! I learn quite a bit new things, and he is very respectful. Not only a great professor but a great person. He grades very nicely and allows us to make up work. He offers a ton of extra credit. He is a great professor.
Professor Nielsen is one of the greatest Professors I have ever had. He is extremely respectful and non-biased. I felt very valued in his class. He genuinely cares about each of his students. He also genuinely cares about the course material. He is very knowledgeable but yet very humble and happy to learn from the students. I'd take his class again
This class was great! I skipped 50% of the time and still passed with an A. He grades SUPER nice. Like if you did the assignment you got full points.
Jeff is a great professor who is very passionate about ethics! I had a hard time going to class because of the time I scheduled it at, and I did not do well on the quizzes. As long as you go to class and do the readings, you should be good! The class discussions are very insightful.
He's a great professor! He gives you every opportunity to get a good grade in the class.
Jeff was very inspirational professor. He posed some very interesting moral problems and gave solutions to them. There isn't much to do, but there are 3 papers. The grading is very lax, though. Every day we started with a music video about some "philosopher" such as Imagine Dragons, or Katy Perry to name a few. LOTS of easy extra credit
Honestly, Professor Nielsen is THE most amazing professor I have or will ever have. He made class easy enough so that you could enjoy learning what he had to tell you. The exams and quizzes were not hard at all, and there were only 3 writing assignments. It's a low key class that you will LOVE! 6/5 stars man! He's just great!
He is a super nice guy, and I really enjoyed the structure of his class. We had lots of interesting discussions for each topic we learned about. He gives lots of extra credit and is a fair grader. Do all of the assignments and you will do fine.
An amazing and inspirational teacher. Treats everyone with respect. As long you go and do your work, you should get a passing grade.
One of the things I most respect about Jeff is his holistic approach to world religion. He openly praises the diverse virtues of major religions, and even practices a lot of those values in conjunction with his predominant religious affiliation. He is respectful, always gets a laugh out of you, and offers extra credit. 10/10 should take his class.
I took the hybrid version of this class, and enjoyed it. Lectures are recommended, but I missed a my fair share and was fine. The class had all of the work due online, so the in-class portion was purely lectures. Great content and interesting topics. He was extremely understanding during Covid-19 and is a great person. Totally recommend.
Professor Nielsen is a great guy who really knows his stuff. he makes philosophy interesting and easy to understand and appreciate. Not very much reading considering it's a philosophy class. He knows students have other classes and lives and is considerate of that. Overall great professor 10/10.
Best/most favorite class. I felt inspired every single time I went into class. The focus is less on the actual philosophers and more on the life lessons learned. I felt like this class was a self help class. Have absolutely loved this class. Amazing motivating lectures. Recommend this class to everyone. Easy A if you care and respect this class.
I absolutely loved his class. So inspirational. The activities/hw we did really helped me in my life outside of class. It almost feels like "free" therapy! He is one of the most genuine and kind people. Class is like an escape from the craziness. He is a very generous grader and his assignments are interesting and engaging. Take this class!
Professor Nielsen is the best professor ever, hands down. Such a sweet and caring guy, has such a calming voice that I love listening to his lectures haha! Hes very calm, the biggest believer of peace and makes sure you dont feel stress with everything he assigns. Plus, his assignments are quite easy and fun to do! Take him you wont regret it!!!
Nielsen is the best professor that I've ever had. His class was very easy while still keeping you engaged with a weekly check-in assignment. His lectures were so good and I never felt stressed about this class.
100% recommend professor Nielsen for PHIL 2050. His lectures are amazing. Super easy class to take, quizzes are all open note open book and gives retries. Has students do character exercises every week which are really easy. Very caring teacher and definitely knows how to teach a class.
Professor Nielsen's class was light in homework, but one of the most beneficial classes I have taken in college. This class is focused on self-improvement and caring for yourself and your wellbeing. The Friday sessions and Monday/Wednesday were incredibly life-enriching. Jeff is funny and relatable. This class has given me a new perspective of life
The coursework is pretty light. Hes one of my favorite professors Ive had and this was probably my favorite class. Highly recommend
great philosopher, best teacher i've had in years.
I liked his class and he's really fun. Love the friday sessions he does where the lecture hall students are split into a bunch of groups and we review philosophical material in smaller groups- its super fun! I would have thought it would be fun for him to go more in depth, but past that it was good.
Very applicable to real world problems and daily realities. This class helped my growth as an individual rather than spending hours learning about ancient philosophers the majority of semester. I appreciated Jeff's ability to recognize comments given and enable a critical thinking environment.
Amazing lectures and an easy class. Prof Nielsen wants you to pass, and since it's required to take this class, he makes sure you have all the opportunities to pass. I learned so much and the assignments weren't bad at all. Super easy, nice instructor, great class periods. TAKE HIM.
If you like personal development and contributing to philosophical discussions during class, this is the professor for you. For me, going to class felt like a waste of time at one point. Quizzes and exams are open note/lecture/internet. Class ended up being cancelled a few times so we didn't get through all the material.
Professor Nielsen was amazing! I highly recommend taking his philosophy class even if you don't need it! He provides so many different outlooks on life and his lectures are so interesting, and he provides so many different resources that we practice in class to keep our wellness up, I will be using these way way beyond his course. 10/10!
What an amazing class and professor! I highly recommend professor Nielsen for philosophy 2050 during summer time! It may be an in person class, but professor Nielsen is fun to learn from and he loves when students give their opinion on the lecture during class. It is open book for quizzes and exam and character exercises and ethic slams are fun!
He wants you to succeed.
Professor Nielson is amazing! This class is super easy but also very insightful. He taught in a way that made you care about what you were learning. I originally was there for the grade but it easily became my favorite class. He genuinely cares about his students and wants to make a difference. Everyone should take this class with prof. Nielson.
Jeff was a great professor! I wasn't very excited for this class initially, but he made class interesting and worth your time. I feel like I became a better person because of taking this class with Jeff. Great professor and class!
Super easy helpful friendly. Not hard to get good grades, he gives you lots of opportunities to succeed
TAKE THIS CLASS! I thought taking this class in person would be so boring and lot of boring reading, now I wish I can take it twice. Jeff is so amazing and teach you so much important stuff. He cares a lot for you and he is very passionate about this class. Take it in person for sure, he will change your point of view in everything in a good way.
TAKE THIS CLASS! I thought it was going to feel so long and boring and now I wish I can take it twice.Jeff makes this class amazing, he is so passionate and will teach you the more important. This class will change your life and perspective in every good way. He cares a lot for his class and will want you to success. Such an amazing person.
I thought I would hate philosophy but he made it so interesting and very enjoyable. All the lectures were great and he really cares about everyones opinions in class.
I want to note that you have to pay attention to love this class. Some of my friends say that they don't pay too much attention and that this class is boring. How can you judge that way. Of course it's going to be boring if you don't care. If you participate, classes from jeff are awesome!
Professor told everyone at the start of the semester that he wants everyone of his students to succeed and he means it! This is the teacher you want for this course! I cannot recommend him enough!
Professor Nielsen was great and super inspiring. His lectures are very interesting, and I learned a lot about different philosophers and how their ethical philosophies apply in every day life. Make sure to attend class to understand the assignments, but also to not miss the lectures! Super engaging and applicable material.
This is one of the greatest classes that I have ever taken. He is very passionate about what he teaches. This is a great class and you will leave it wanting to have learned more. Great teacher, great texts, great class. Don't get me wrong, this is not an easy class, but you will love the challenge!
I took his ethics and values class and took away a lot of practical wellness tips. The class isn't "easy" per say, but I never felt stressed or anxious in class or over essays. 10/10, if I have the chance I'd love to take another of his courses!
