Tests are IMPOSSIBLE!!!!!!
He doesn't seem very confident in his lectures. He reads only off the slides (which come straight from the book). Makes little jokes that aren't really that funny. His tests are more about how well you can read critically than about the material. However, if you have a strong background in Biology in high school then it shouldn't be that bad.
His lectures are straight from the book, and they are summarized for no reason. You will not see a question that he has took the time to write, everything is straight from a question bank in the books website. All his suggestions to study lead you feeling lost on test day. If you are not prepared for scenario questions, beware.
i found him quite helpful, always willing to see students in his office to answer questions about lecture. was extremely understanding of emergencies arising as well. test kicked my butt, but loved this class none the less.
Very bad teacher. Doesnt act like he knows what he is talking about when he is teaching the class and tests are very hard. Lab will save you if need be so dont slack there.
Avoid if possible. PowerPoint?s are the worst I?ve ever seen. Looks like he copy/pasted from another teacher and the book and added his own stuff to it. Nice guy-tries to be funny. VERY BORING LECTURE. Deems the lights and reads the PowerPoint?s. Is more interested in clinical research than trying to make it relative to actual application.
Dr. Padberg was very helpful and cared about his students very much. However, the class itself was very hard. Most questions on the tests came straight out of the PowerPoint. So as long as you study at least a few days before the test, you should get a decent grade.
I am a biology major, and I took this class because it looked interesting. If you like subjects that are complex, this class is for you. You have to read the book, and if you can do this you will have no problem with the class, just show up he takes attendance everyday. Really nice guy, laid back. Intro to Neuroscience is not bad at all.
He changed the test format frequently.
Doesn't care about student performance. Doesn't keep students informed about their grades. Reading the book and studying the powerpoints do no good. He changes the format of the tests every time.
Dr. Padberg is really into the subject matter that he teaches. This class is very interesting if you like to know how the mind works. The trick to passing this class is read the book, and re-read again, becauses his final is comprehensive. His regular exams are mutiple choice, but you don't get them back, so again read chapters.
HORRIBLE!! Tests were impossible. He tried to trick you on every single question and answer on the test. Rushed through powerpoints. Should not have been teaching because the only thing he cares about is the brain, and see this as a waste of his time.
Tough professor, nice guy. Don't expect an easy class! Be prepared to spend quite some time studying the material. Goes through his powerpoints very quickly. Tricky tests!!
Avoid. Tests are ridiculous and lectures are boring. He mumbles and flies through the PowerPoints. Not very helpful in office either. Doesn't hand back tests or tell you which ones you missed just the scantron sheet. Class is hard but he makes it even harder.
I agree with a previous post--tough class, great guy, subtle, awesome sense of humor. Very difficult--you need to keep up with the readings, but if you really study the book and go to class, you can work hard and get an A. Don't touch your cell phone during lecture or lab. I'd take him again.
AVOID him! Especially if you are international! He is not helpful at all! Speeeeeeed talker, so fast and no sense. HE gets out of the subject so trying to be funny but NOT! JOKES doesnt help you to get good grade! TEST FORMAT changes frequently. JUST AVOID him for you GOOD. If you wanna spend your money and hear his dry jokes, go ahead thats fo you
Padberg was AWESOME. He did tend to ramble and go off on mindless tangents at times, but his lectures were always extremely interesting- there was never a dull moment in that class. His tests are extremely difficult, but they definitely prepare you for medical school if that's what youre looking to go into. You should at least try him forasemester!
TAKE HIM! He is really funny and is super interesting! Tests are not too bad, just make sure you are studying. He makes class really fun and he LOVES Lol Catz. Be prepared for him to go off and ramble a bit, but he always keeps class easy to pay attention to and his sense of humor is superb. He teaches the subject good! Take him for BIOL 1440
Padberg is totally AWESOME!He's hilarious but still serious. It's good to get a laugh in during lecture. He explains everything thouroghly and if you stil dont get it, ASK HIM!Lab was very easy and he gives you 24+ hours to finish writing the notebook. He's just a great, down to earth guy. Please take him, he knows what he's talking about!!
Padberg is amazing! Take him for any classe that he teaches. He keeps lectures interesting and is an all around good/interesting guy. He usually drops a test grade and gives bonus on every test. Labs are interesting but he keeps you the whole time. Expect to study. Great teacher!!
Dr. Padberg is a really great teacher. He seems unapproachable, but if you establish a relationship with him early in the semester, he will always help you. Keep good notes from lecture, especially what he writes on the board. Read the chapters from the book to complete your notes and do the online practice tests! DO NOT have your phone on!
Lectures aren't too bad but labs are a complete nightmare. You're expected to know every single detail and the results of the lab...before the lab. He acts as if you're a complete idiot if you aren't a master before you come. If you ask him a question he will either not answer it or give you something so vague it isn't even helpful.
Doesn't really care if you pass or not, even if you're truly trying. Expectations for lab are ridiculous, reading the materials beforehand isn't enough. Labs are a stressful environment. Doesn't respond to student emails well. This class was extremely frustrating for me to say the least.
Probably one of the worst professors I've encountered so far. I have yet to learn anything from his lectures, and when he speaks, it seems like he has no idea what he's talking about. His online quizzes and tests are VERY difficult. He is NOT polite at all in lab or when you see him in his office. If you value what you intend to learn in biology, especially if it's your major and/or you plan to go on to Pre-Med, DO NOT take Padberg.
Dr. Padberg is a great scientist, but I did not click well with the way he teaches. He drops 1 test which really helps and also gives Mastering Biology assignments which help, but are kind of a pain sometimes. Go in during his office hours if you take him. Personally, I would not take him though. Oh yeah, tests are HARD, but somehow I pulled an A.
If you plan on taking this class, heed this warning and DO NOT take Dr. Padberg. This has to be one of the most difficult classes I've ever taken, and Dr. Padberg didn't make it any easier. His tests are VERY difficult, and if you have questions, he's not very punctual at answering e-mails or very welcoming during office hours.
So fun and cool!
Very hard! You have to do online quiz's to do okay on his tests! Everyone in my class thought he was too hard. The stuff he talks about in lecture is not what is on the test.
DON'T TAKE DR.PADBERG!!Try to avoid him at all costs. He has powerpoints but hardly uses them and nothing he says is on the tests. The only way I could get good grades on his tests was to read the chapter multiple times and do the chapter tests online. He is a really cool person but not a good teacher. He will definitely work you hard.
Bottom line: His tests aren't that bad if you just take decent notes and review diagrams in the book. Labs are stressful, but get over it this class is a breeze in comparison to the future classes you new biology majors will take. A or B is easily attainable
He is a great professor. Very knowledgeable and enthusiastic!
His lectures are kind of confusing because he is very energetic and loves what he is talking about, although it is very entertaining. If you take good notes and skim the book, especially diagrams, you can make at least B's on his tests, they aren't that easy. Online quizzes help for tests and overall grade! He's pretty reasonable if you ask for help
I had Padberg for introduction to Neuroscience. He is great for teaching this class because he has a ton of experience. You have to read the book to fully understand the material, it's not that he's bad at presenting the material, it's just the nature of the beast when it comes to neuroscience.
Padberg is not an easy professor. He is, however, a good professor. I took the May intercession, and it was rough, but he rounded my grade up to an A when I had an 89ish%. The man knows when you are trying. He makes lectures interesting by encouraging students to ask fun, off the wall, questions just to test him - and, of course, to make you think.
Dr. Padberg is a great professor. Extremely fair.
I was really worried going into this class after seeing some of the ratings on this website for Dr. Padberg, but frankly they aren't accurate. His teaching style/personality is a little unorthodox, but he is engaging, loves to help, and is fair on his grading. Great professor...don't get scared away from reading some of these rating!
Dr. Padberg isn't a horrible professor. His lectures are pretty scattered. You have to read every chapter. Everything on the exam is NOT covered in classREADor you won't pass. Bonus points for attendance.
Padberg is super funny, and his lectures are actually interesting. You'll have to read the book if you want an A, but his lectures are thorough so go to class. He's a character, and he tells funny stories that help you actually learn. He made biology fun (which, let's be honest, is not an easy task) for a non-bio major. Highly recommend!
He knows a lot about Biology and he's a very good teacher. However, his tests are way too hard!
He was awesome, his class seemed like it was 2 hours long but I loved the class and enjoyed learning about biology. He is hilarious and makes things easy to understand. If you come to class you get bonus points and his tests aren't hard but I recommend going over the chapters in the book. But overall I loved him and his class!
He is a very good professor. I was super scared about taking Biology because I've never been good at science, but he made it so interesting and easy. I read every chapter that he assigned and ended up with an A. The labs are fun with him too. There's no homework, just tests and labs. There are some 'quizzes' but they are easy.
Take him
Almost fell asleep during lecture sometimes but he really does care about his class and he gives bonus opportunities (sometimes) I ended up with an A but labs and reading the text are essential. If you miss lecture, you lose bonus points.
Dr. Padberg is so passionate about everything he lectures on, but this can make his class incredibly long and boring. Labs that take 30 minutes to complete last 2 hours due to his talking. Lectures are not helpful, and he spends class time talking about information not on the test. But, no homework is a plus! Grades only come from tests(hard) & lab
He is an okay teacher. Basically what happens is he talks for hours during lecture, talks for hours during the lab, and then we have a test. Not many quizzes or other points, which makes it hard because you have no idea what kind of questions are going to be on the test. If you dont mind just reading the book and taking a test, he is your guy.
Take him! He's super cool and laid back as long as you aren't rude or disrespectful. Don't be on your phone during class!
Dr. Padberg seems like an interesting and nice guy, but he doesn't really care about his students or helping them. Very intelligent and takes time to answer students' questions in the middle of lecture. The only grades are 5 tests and lab assignments that aren't very tough. Lectures are pointless because test questions are straight from the book
I absolutely loved Dr. Padberg! He is so passionate about what he teaches, which makes it even better to be in his class. We have multiple choice tests often, but if you study the material, you should make anywhere from an A to a B. He gives bonus points and tells jokes & personal stories that make it all the more interesting. Read!
Dr. Padberg is a great person! His class is very difficult, but if you put in the work you'll do great. He gives 5 exams, mostly multiple choice, some short answer, and labs every week which are very easy and fun. He doesn't help a lot during lab, but if you have questions during lecture he'll answer them. Very funny, and passionate about science!
Read the book! The textbook info will help you more than the lectures will. If you're really wanting to understand biology, I would consider taking someone else because Padberg has a hard time of staying on topic and explaining thoroughly. However, if you're wanting to just pass the class for credit - he's great. He's super funny and labs are cool
He's okay, read the book. He's funny and tells some dope stories. Test are okay. Not too hard. Go to labs, they carry you.
Took him for Neuroscience, great person but tough tests. Read every single scrap of information in the book, even the side notes.
I took Dr. Padberg for Exploring Human Biology. I loved his class! He is hilarious and intelligent. I would take his class again. If you do not read the book, you won't do good on tests. Showing up to class, taking notes, and reading the book are essential for success. Some of the content is difficult, but he offers lots of ways to get help.
Dr. Padberg genuinely loves teaching and science. His passion for the subject makes his lectures very entertaining and easy to remember. Reading the chapters will help alot on the tests, but paying attention to what he lectures on helped me the most. He has kind of a dry sense of humor and kept the class laughing with his stories.
Dr. Padberg is one of the best bio profs I've ever had. He is hilarious, and lectures aren't boring. 4 tests(MC + SA) and a comprehensive final. Labs were long and taught by a GA; dont blow labs off or your grade will suffer. Posts ppts on blackboard before tests. Tests are pretty straightforward. Bottom line: he is great. Study +youll be ok
Dr. Padberg is a really good prof, and I love listening to his lectures. He's has a dry sense of humor and makes learning about Bio fun. You have to read the textbook and take notes, but beyond that, it's not that bad! He lets you come in and look at tests after you take them to see what you missed, and loves when the class participates. Take him!
Cool guy and a pretty fun class. Gets off topic easy but is usually interesting. Great when talking to the whole class but not one on one. Avoid going to office hours, just email if you have questions.
Dr. Padberg is a very good professor who is willing to help out all of his students. Attending lecture and labs are very important to pass the class. Much of his grades come from tests, so be sure to study and read the textbook. He also has an incredibly dry sense of humor. Overall, great professor.
Really funny, nice guy, read the chapters and go to class.
Do not take this class if you plan to be on your phone, you have to pay attention in lectures and read the book to make a good grade. His test are a little hard to study for, but they aren't that hard.
Padberg is a great professor! He gives you all that you need in order to make an A i his class. Go to glass, lab, and read the book and this class wont be so bad. NO CELL PHONES. HIs lectures are not too boring, and he has a very unique sense of humor.
He was my favorite teacher this semester! Super easy to talk to and he's really passionate about biology. Not very helpful in lab but it's not too bad. Those grades really carry you in class, so do not skip lab!!! Tests aren't too hard as long as you read the book. Padberg is a great choice, I highly recommend taking him!
Great professor. Super interesting in class and makes it fun. Make sure to do the reading and you'll get an A. Labs are important but easy. One of my favorite classes this semester and my favorite professor so far. Would definitely take again.
Professor Padberg is super funny during his lectures. However, he likes to tell stories about his life and gets off topic a lot. There wasn't a point in going to his lectures besides bonus points for attendance. You definitely want to read the chapters before tests and meet during his office hours if you want to see past tests.
Dr. Padberg is a really funny teacher who obviously enjoys what he is teaching. If you show up to all of his lectures which he tries to make fun, do your reading before tests, and take good notes you can easily pass. He always offers extra credit projects and takes attendance every day. And if he sees a phone he will publicly embarrass you.
Hes a really good teacher. You can tell that he's passionate about Bio and really wants you to be too. Beware, he will talk about politics, a lot, but it never bothered me. Be sure to read the chapters and don't lag on them either or try to read them the night before and you'll do good. The labs are super easy points as well.
Dr. Padberg was awesome. I had him for BIO1440 and his lectures were always interesting. The majority of the test material comes straight from the book, so be ready to read the chapters. However, the book is an interesting read. He is clear on what will be on the test and loves teaching. Dont take him if you want a super easy biology class.
Great teacher... read sections ahead od coming to class to say on top!
His lectures are awesome. He tries to be funny too much, but I get a lot of his humor. Tests are very comprehensible. The material is not hard, and he doesnt grill you on tiny details. Class is based mostly around general concepts and ideas. Great stepping stone for BIO1440 if you need a refresher. Take him, pay attention, and study a little.
Dr. Padberg is very passionate about what he teaches and loves it. He wants you to love it too. He tries his best to make his lectures fun and interesting even if it doesnt always work. He is very strict about cell phones being out and will take points from the whole class if he sees phones out. His tests are hard but gives some easy questions
Very funny and knowledgeable. There arent many homework assignments. If there are its ez points. Most points come from exams and labs. Bonus points if u attend lecture everyday. Drops lowest test score. You have to read A LOT and know the material. Tests are mostly multiple choice and a few short ans. Buy the book so you can write/highlight.
Padberg is a very smart professor and really funny. He lectures a lot - but also tells funny stories here and there. Grade is mostly composed of tests and lab. Must buy the lab journal and the book is pretty important because he leaves a lot of material out in his lectures. Reading is pretty important to get a good grade on tests.
Padberg fills his lectures full of memes and dad jokes. He truly cares if you succeed. For the love of all that is good, do NOT take your phone out in class!! It's his biggest pet peeve, and he will actually deduct points for it. No quizzes and the few tests aren't too hard if you study.
Dr. Padberg was great. He was really funny and often included memes in his lectures. He also really wants everyone to succeed and do well. He's SUPER strict about phones. You will need the textbook. Not much homework but labs are important (they're fairly easy + in groups). Make sure to read and take notes or the tests will be VERY difficult.
Dr. Padberg is a great teacher. His lectures are interesting and he tries to incorporate stories that relate to the lecture material. I will say to READ THE BOOK! Read the chapters that he is covering because that information will be on the exam. Overall if you read the book, come to class, and study you will do just fine.
Dr.P is an entertaining professor who wants to see you succeed, yet makes you want to work for it. He gives you opportunities, wants to talk to you about your grades while trying to help you figure out better ways to study for tests. I would definitely take him again, just to learn more about the things he teaches.
Very caring professor but would not recommend taking his class online.
He is funny and his lectures are interesting, but overall I would recommend that you do not take him. He NEVER responded to emails, EVER. He does not communicate very well. Also you must read the book and understand the material in the book to pass exams.
I will never take Professor Padberg ever again. I had him for Biology and he goes extremely fast in class and doesn't explain concepts very well. He intentionally makes class harder than it needs to be. Please do not take him he is not a good professor and he takes weeks to grade test exams.
Professor Padberg is the WORST professor I have ever taken. He doesn't teach material clearly just does picture slides then doesn't explain them very well. Please DO NOT take him no matter how hard you study it won't matter his average for tests are c so if your happy with that or failing his test then take him
worst professor ever, please don't take him you'll regret it. He doesn't help students, he just rushes through slides and makes his test increadible hard
He is a terrible professor, I took him for Biology and I'm a straight-A student and I'm flunking his class. He rushes through slides and doesn't give you time to write notes and does a terrible job of explaining the material. And his idea of bonus points is 1 point. DO NOT TAKE HIM
Do not take him, he gives really hard tests and doesn't prepare you for them at all. I talked to several other friends of mine who took him and they all said the same thing. No one understands what he's talking about. He purposely tries to make biology harder than it needs to be
Worst professor I have ever had. I have never been so confused in a class before. Do not take him for Biology or any other class. He will drop your grades.
Honestly, these reviews are kinda dramatic. This class really isn't too bad. I read the book, take notes, and study for probably 2-3 hours for each test and I've made As and Bs on all of them. If you come to class and pay attention it's not bad. He gives study questions that are a test guide. Its not an easy A, but you can get the grade you want.
As long as you put in the effort, you will learn a lot in his class and he will work with you.
Lab takes up a big part of your grade. Pay attention in class and read the textbook chapters and youll be good. He gives bonus for going to SI sessions but his tests can be hard. He gave me and opportunity to come make up my final when I slept through my 8am. He gives guided reading questions too which help a lot.
Labs are pretty easy. There's lots of opportunities for bonus if you take advantage of them. Tests are pretty hard, but as long as you do labs and homework, you can make up for it.
Eh, he's not too hard but a terrible communicator. Rarely responds to emails and his lectures can sometimes be boring. Overall, not too difficult of a class if you just read the book. He does give lots of opportunities for bonus which is nice. Labs are easy with a couple reports that are worth a lot of points.
He is an amazing professor. This course is a hard course regardless, however, he offers so many opportunities for points. Without all of the other points, I do not believe I would have passed this class. It is obvious that he is passionate about his job and has his students' best interest in mind. If you have to take this course, take him!
This class wasn't terrible, but Padberg's lectures were all over the place. Take advantage of the SI Sessions and read the book and you will be fine though. The only homework we had was the lab assignment and a mastering bio assignment each week. Other than that your points come from lab quizzes and tests.
He's a super tough grader and for what purpose like this is an introduction class to Biology you don't have to grade like its life or death
Nice and funny professor. However, as a non bio major I found his class pretty difficult. You don't learn much from lectures so reading the textbook is IMPORTANT if you want to pass exams. Exams are weirdly spaced out and graded on multiple choice + open responses. Helpful if you go to him for help and he throws a couple bonus opportunities out.
For Neuroscience: The tests are difficult and frequent but if you read the chapters in the book you can't fail. In terms of lectures he often makes the class laugh and is very relatable and cool, however he often wonders off topic which leaves us cramming material during lectures. Overall you can't go wrong with Padberg, take him if you can.
I loved having Padberg! He is a great teacher & very passionate about what he does. His class is fairly difficult because he is a tough grader & the tests aren't super easy. There is lab homework & quizzes before the lab period, but if you go to lecture & pay attention, it shouldn't be too hard. Definitely recommend!
Padberg made lectures interesting while telling you what you need to know. Reading the book helped understand his lectures, but his tests were based on the information that he gave during lecture. The active reading guide helped understand the material really well. Long live Dadberg!
20-30 question exam every week. Do not take it unless you have ALOT of time to devote to the course. He does not hand exams back or let you write things down if you go to office hours to see them. Overall there is 14 exams, with 2 drops, plus a final. 700 points total, all exams except 150 in attendance/participation. The book was your bestfriend
Takes forever to grade tests which doesn't allow the student to gather much feedback. Lit review is assigned at the beginning of the semester but he took a long time to offer feedback with the rough draft. Made 1/3 of the class change their paper topic and allotted 2 weeks to basically redo the whole paper. Lectures were interesting though.
Padberg's class is challenging but doable with effort. Textbook reading and study sessions are key. Exams are tough, but bonus opportunities help. Unstuckstudy was a lifesaver for test prep!
I loved Padberg so much, his lectures are very interesting. He is very different over email, and I didn't have a good experience with the communication aspect. At the same time, he is very understanding and will let you make up missing Pearson assignment. The exams are easy, but don't go off the study guide he provides.
I thought Padberg did a great job teaching the concepts overall, and he made learning enjoyable. The only complaint I had was that he would sometimes go on tangents that had nothing to do with the class and waste time before the test. Everything covered on the test was in the lecture, so I wouldn't skip.
