Many people found his Microeconomics lectures boring, but I enjoyed them.
Very Jerky Man
Makes subject fun. Very helpful. Material is easy to understand, but not organized.
He is a Yankee fan, how sane can he be?
Very helpful, and very approachable. Exams are based off of homework, and lecture. If you go to class, and follow his lecture you'll be fine.
I had a strong interest in this subject matter, so I found the class interesting. Alot of reading, but exams are straight-forward and he's very helpful. You do have to write a paper but he offers examples of papers and plenty of help.
real good guy, he is demanding, but he runs a good class and makes the subject interesting
Fairly decent, always available
i have no idea what you other people are talking about. he is quite possibly the worst professor at RU. he is boring and unclear. he is horrible and his exams are impossible. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF FOR MICRO, TAKE ANY1 ELSE EXCEPT RUBIN.
his lectures are boring and pointless, just do the homework and read the book... study and you will do fine
Boring, resents having to teach an intro class. The study guide teaches, but is flawed... typos everywhere; the book teaches nothing. Homework has nothing to do with exams. Trust me, you will learn more application and less theory in another econ class.
Talks alot...requires alot of conceptual thinking...test arent that badd...study hard though...curve works great
He's a nice guy, but lectures do NOT help. Make sure you read the book and understand the graphs in it..its all graphs but not too hard.
not very easy, but not too hard either. do the homework, READ the book, and go to lecture, and u'll get the A. he's a really nice guy but not really easy. tas are helpful if u sit through recitation.
He knows the subject well and is great with explanations to questions. The quizzes and exams can be a little tricky, make sure to pay attention to the in class examples and by all means read the book and go through the study guide. He's really good.
had him last summer -- nice guy -- gave quizzes and exams -- not too difficult
great teacher.
Lots of online articles, must know the graphs from class, a project is required. you need to check the internet everyday for his new homework articles... lots of library time, and he expects you know econometrics well... the project requires statistical analysis.
Interesting lectures. overall nice guy. highly recommended
scumbag
You do a decent amount of work for a Rutgers Econ class, but really its not much. The grades he assigns are really low, so students work hard, but in the end he curves them up, so like most seminars, there are mostly As. Intersting class, you learn alot.
Big Project statistics knowlage a must library time a must he isnt very helpful not good at explaning things
Terrible.. Didn't like him at all. Too many online articles. Lectures make no sense unless you know the book, but didn't even really explain good.
It's 5:19am and I've been working on this term project FOREVER!! Get the picture. If you do decide to take the class, ask him about starting the project when there are 6 weeks left in class instead of 3 or 4. That way you can figure out as much econometrics/statistics as needed.
The term paper is so long and boring. It is very extensive and requires a strong econometrics background. His lectures suck and they put you to sleep. He gets offended if you leave the class to get a drink, or to go to the bathroom. As a result of you leaving he makes you pay in the end with your grade
Rubin (suck)^100000000000000000000000000000000000
Terrible teacher, lectures are deathly boring and he doesn't even help to explain things well. Need to know the book pretty well, but a lot of the questions on the exams and quizzes come from the study guide. Do not take this class if you don't have to. Terrible.
Awful and boring. Even though he knows what he is talking about, he deviates from whats going to be on the tests (which are hard as hell). I studied my ass off and only got a C+. Try taking with another teacher if you are required to take this course
I don't understand. This class was mad easy. I didn't really study, and got a B. Seriously. Rubin's not bad. Econ in itself is boring, so u kind of expect him to be boring. But he's not a d(#*head like some ppl say. The massive curve and the final helped a lot too. Not open book, but come on... Easy
I don't know what you're talking about- Rubin was great. You do have to study, but if you go to lecture and recitation, you'll be fine. A bulk of the questions come from the study guide and the final has lots from old exams. He's a great professor and is willing to help you if you ask for it.
lectures don't really teach anything. talks more about current events relating to econ. this would be nice...except it's an intro class, so no one knows what he's talking about and why it's important. doesn't matter tho, forget class, read the book, do the study guide and old exams and you'll be fine.
His lectures are all you need to ace the exams. The book is totally unnecessary. The term paper is very straightforward in format, if you have a good topic it writes himself. Overall he is very helpful and the class is very interesting. Then again (not to brag), I had the highest score on the exam and aced the class- suckers.
Class is EXTREMELY boring. All these other reviews are acurate. Take another professor if possible.
Previous comments are accurate: He IS boring, I seriously tried to stay awake for lectures, but he STILL manages to make me fall asleep. He spends a good part of lectures talking about current events, but I would had prefered that he do more teaching. Read the book, look at old exams, GO to resistations because they help a lot.
Excellent professor. The paper and homework assignments let you learn a lot because it's not like your learning the material to just ace a test - focuses a lot on current events in the world of health care. overall, very good class, very good professor.
The comments are mixed & I'm not surprised. If you enjoy any aspect of economics and follow current events of it on a daily basis, then this class is for you. If you hardly pay attention to the economy and don't have any interest whatsoever, then DON'T take this class, esp. as an elective! I fell asleep so many times despite attempts to stay awake!
Rubin was my professor for the honors section of micro. He's extremely boring, just as basically everyone else has said. I busted my ass just to get a B; his tests are mad hard. I would avoid taking him, I feel like I didn't learn anything from his lectures. He is very unapproachable as well.
I am big on econ+business and I find his class very boring. He is not very approachable and his tests are VERY hard. Weekly homeworks aren't too bad but tests are INSANE.
One word: BORING!!!!!!!!! His class made me not want to get out of bed in the morning!!! It was torture!!!!
I actually enjoy Econ but I found Prof. Rubin to be very hard and very boring. He is far too technical. You leave the class with very little knowledge. Tests are VERY dificult. Avoid taking his class.
despite your interest in the subject, prof. rubin will drain in out of you and throw random questions in your direction not clearly related to the homework assignments. he is simply not organized.
This guy ran the economics dept into the ground in 1990s to 2003. When students would try to talk with him about solving a problem, he would mischaracterize the situation to cast the student in a bad light. Then when speaking with him personally, he'd say, "I hope you're handling the Rutgers bureaucracy OK", referring to the bureaucracy he created
I found his class boring in the beginning, but it grew on me. It's true, he isn't the clearest, but if you read the book & have a brain, it's easy to understand the concepts. The tests are difficult, there is a lot of material to learn, but he does curve so it's not too bad. Overall I enjoyed the course & it gave me an appreciation for economics.
this guy is impossible....he goes over so much material and alot of it is not even covered on the exams...the project is also very hard to do...unless you have a passion for learning about how the health care system works....avoid this class
This class took a rough start, but the homework that you do helps boost your grade. The curve is pretty big. You don't really have to attend the lectures, you can read from the book and workbook. The book is really good, the workbook is sometimes tricky. The book is also online, so if you want, you don't have to buy a physical copy of it.
Very dificult tests. About a 10 point curve to your overall grade but something like 1/3 of class still gots D's + F's. You're better off reading the book and not coming to class, just hand in hw and leave. Do HW to help your grade!
HORRIBLE CLASS! He's a good guy, but is horrible at teaching Micro. We had 2 guest lecturers this year...and you could clearly see that they knew how to teach this stuff. I ended up with a freaking D!! a D!!! Oh and almost 1/2 of the class recieved the same grade or failed. Now i have to take it in the summer, thanks for nothing Rubin.
Very good teacher. If you pay attetion there is no reason for you to do poorly. He is also very helpful if you approach him.
His class is actually really easy if you just study the study guide, since he takes his test questions directly from it. Overall, there is no point to go to his lectures, since half the time you fall asleep in class. If you do pay attention, he does adequately cover the materials. But, I thought the guest lecturers did do a better job at teaching.
nice guy, helpful. lectures are extremely boring; only went to a few. didnt keep up with material just studied the study guide and book the night before the final and wound up with a B in the course. not the easiest teacher though.
Not bad. Old fashion teaching on overhead projector but if you go to class and listen and take notes. U can pass
Overall, Professor Rubin does a good job of applying economics to the current events. However, I feel that his class is very difficult and a lot of information is covered for the exams. I wish that he would be a little more specific about what's going to be on exams. Although he has a lot of knowledge on economics, it is a difficult class. You have
Currently I'm a freshman. I am busting my butt to get ALL A's and I'm really close...BUT I PROBABLY WONT BECAUSE OF THIS CLASS. THis class is really boring, you are better off reading the book. The exams are pretty difficult in my opinion. Do I recommend him? Nope.
He is the hardest micro teacher at rutgers. Everyones who's trying to take intro to micro next year is lucky as hell since hes not teaching it anymore. His tests are hard and hes way to got damn boring. There wasnt one class where i didnt fall asleep. He just draws ugly a-s graphs and expects us to understand what hes talking about. DONTPICHIM
the worst professor ever. every horror story you hear is true. this man can't teach for his life. switch out immediately. starts off easy...but by the end you'll lose your mind. do no go to his lecture. will make you dumber. exams hard and i'm not sure about hte validitiy of his grading. run away while you still can.
I HATE HIM
Very hard class. Was planning on applying to the business school but after this class and the grade I recieved, those dreams were shattered. Spends alot of time applying the material to real life examples rather than explaining the material for those who took the INTRO class to learn about micro. Exams extremely hard. the textbook was more helpful.
unbelievably boring lectures and spends time drawing messy graphs on an overhead! exams are very difficult.. studied my bum off and read the book and still did bad on the exams. and Rubin is a liar! he never gave his class the 4th extra credit as promised. DO NOT TAKE HIM!! save yourself.
Good Prof. Does not require class attendance but expects everyone in attendance to stay for the duration. Always eager to help out, dispite a class size of over 400 he was always available for questions through an online discussion board and responded promptly to postings. Exams are multiple choice and are not difficult IF YOU STUDY the material.
tests were a bit hard. it is impossible to pass the class, without reading the textbook. homeworks were relatively easy and he gives a lot of extra credits. it is worth going to his class because he gives you helpful hints about the tests. I had to study a lot to get an A.
First of all, this class is all about concepts. Studying from the text is important. I don't know what these people are saying about extra credit because he gives very little. Here's how it works: Rubin will post an article on the discussion board. You will have to be one of the first 20 students to reply. Yeah 20/400 kids get EC. Good luck
OK! TAKE HIM ONLY AND ONLY IF YOU ARE A BOOKWORM! he's soooooo boring!! tests are mad hard.. save ur self.. dont kill ur GPA.. anyother teacherS like perry or altzchuler are good.!!!! DO NOT TAKE HIM.. U WILL SUFFER!
Gives about 12 minor homework assignments which are graded tough by TAs. Tests were hard, but there is a huge curve, so I was able to get an A. the eStudy guide is extremely helpful, although it is long.
one of the most boring teachers i've even had. a couldn't make it through one lecture without falling asleep in scott hall. the only reason i went to class was for the clicker questions. it is really hard to learn when a teacher is as boring as he is.
Not an easy prof at all...I skipped way too many classes because it was so boring. However, if you get on his good side, he is the undergraduate director of economics...so it may be helpful. Also, the class is curved A LOT so if you are already good at econ it wouldn't be TOO bad.
He is a nice guy but a terrible professor. He struggles to give a good lecture. Just read the book and you will be fine!. His exams are hard, but if u read the book(15 pgs per chapter), u will be fine.
He is SUCH a nice guy. Lectures are so boring. It's not hard if you study hard. He is helpful. Class attendence isn't mandatory but get points for answering clicker questions during class. Tests multiple choice not too bad ifyou study.
Not as hard as people make him out to be. Aplia assignments were helpful. Exams were decent and not too difficult. Go to class, do the online hw, and it's an easy A course.
Not bad, do aplia study and do the assignments and you will get atleast a B if not an A
this class isn't as impossible as others make it out to be. if you really want the A you can get it...just stay on top of the Aplia assignments and read the chapters before you go to class...exams are straight from the book and study guide. this class is not for you if you have no work ethic!
He isn't as hard as everyone says he is. His curves were decent, and tests were based on slides and book. If you studied, you could easily get a B or A. He was also amusing too. The only thing that makes people hate him were the extra Aplia assignments and essays we had to do, which I think helped my grade go up. But yeah, not a bad professor.
This class has a really good curve at the end. If you study the study guide, go to class for the clickers, and complete the aplia assignments correctly and on time you should be fine. On every exam he takes 10 multiple choice questions straight out of the study guide. Not as bad as everyone says, with the curve i got a B in his class.
If you study and keep on top of all the work, you will get an A or B. He has a nice curve at the end which will boost your grade. If you dont' take the class seriously you could fall way behind and fail.
The material is easy to understand, especially if you are an auditory learner. He's a really nice guy and answers all questions that you put on sakai. The lectures can get boring, but overall, it could be worse. take this class!
Lecture's are sooo boring and you have to go cause of the i-clicker. No extra credit, but his tests aren't that hard. There's a good amount of hw each week which sucks. Take a diff prof. if you can.
OK professor, definitely not the greatest. You will have to do Aplia every week, and i-clickers every lectures. Exams aren't that bad, but definitely not an easy A.
prof rubin really isnt as bad as people say. he's really helpful cuz he answers anyones questions on sakai & hes really into the material he teaches. i'd say he teaches pretty well although lecture can get pretty boring. however, the clicker questions & aplia hw can help boost your grade & they really do help if you read chapters ahead of time =)
oh my god...this class sucks! i fall asleep almost everytime because it is so boring. no wonder no one answers his crazy questions, because everyone is asleep in their chairs while he continues to drone on! dont take this class
Pro. Rubin is not really helpful at all. Attendance is mandatory becuz you use iclickers in class that count as 'in class' quizzes. The textbook is a MUST! But the TAs for this class are extremely helpful. DO NOT take this class if you don't need to, or at least not with Rubin. =0)
he's a nice guy, and tries to engage the class in his lectures by asking questions... but no one is ever awake to answer, partially because the subject's boring tho. he's really enthusiastic about this stuff cuz he emails info like crazy regarding econ. good professor, boring subject.
He's good at teaching; he basically spoon-feeds the information. Go to lecture, actually LISTEN to him and not fall asleep (put some effort in it), and you can get an A with minimal preparation.
the class is really boring with mandatory attendance. homework twice a week (don't miss it. it can mess up your grade)... exams are not THAT bad. final exam is cumulative and based off of about 18 chapters. granted, the final was the hardest part.
Class can get boring, but iClickers are used that can help your grade, especially considering most of the questions he asks were past homework questions. Homeworks are online and are a decent portion of your grade, but he usually gives a practice set of problems for every graded assignment which help you get the answers to the graded assignments
easy class. rubins lectures are very boring. just shows slides that are from the book. exams are easy and there is a nice curve. doenst use clickers anymore so it was a plus. never went to class and still got an A. just read the book
There are soo many things to be said so i'll sum them up...Do Not Take Him! It's torture...
Worst man EVER. I despise his man. He makes you do the useless things ever and the aplia. o wow the aplia. each question is worth 1 point and after u do like 1000 questions its only put into 150pts. This man knows how to screw with your head. If u can NEVER take him unless if u like a challenge that u cant overcome.
**Eye roll**
Very boring but not too hard if you read the book and do the study guide.
oooo my GOD this class is the worst and prof. rubin is a **** head ..really bad teacher and the class sucks the exams are really hard and he gives to much work on that dum ass aplia please do not take him ...get out if you can or its over for you trust me
you can listen to every bi#ch all day but if u read the textbook do the study guides the tests arent that hard. there is too much hw n the lectures are boring but micro itself isnt the harderst subject
I actually learned a lot from this class. His teaching methods are very organized and predictable. An esay A if you read the textbook. Constant Aplia work was tedious at times, but it helps keeping your time budgeted. He was always helpful on sakai, I almost felt he lived on that site. Plus he knows a lot about economics, which I would hope.
he doesnt make much sense in class but that's coz his lecture's are mad long and you'll probably fall asleep. but if you can pay attention for 80 mins then go for it. all the exam stuff is from the book, so just read and you'll be fine
Not that hard of a class. If you follow the study guides and understand the aplia, you can do well on the exams. He gives in class assignemnts (sometimes, around 7 times in the semester) so its good if you come to class. Knows A LOT about the economy. You will definitely learn
Really boring topic. Definitely knows his stuff. If you don't read the book, you're screwed. I didn't. Really helpful out of class and through e-mail. Kind of gets annoying with all of the articles he e-mails, but he's a good guy and has a lot of interest in his topic.
this professor is insane!! he gives so much work. i spent nearly every day reading his stupid textbook. he gave the same assignments to both his regular micro and his honors micro. though he does know a lot about the topic. hes always in the chatroom and sending out articles
his lectures can be boring and he can be annoying with all the article emails he sends you but he is understandable and helpful, you can definitely get a B if you at least try
Hard. Need to REALLY understand the material for the practical application assignments he gives us. Unless confident, be cautious when choosing the honors section - NOT a guaranteed A! I heard the reg. section is much easier! (Not all the extra written assignments that have to be perfect to do well!) Lectures are pretty boring, so read the book!
He's really boring. But if you listen to him, you can learn the material easily. However, I just skipped/slept in class, read the book instead, and got an A. Textbook required, annoying written assignments, no clicker, no attendance needed. Study hard for the first test, as that will set you apart in the curve and get you the A.
Prof. Rubin really knows his stuff. And he post a lot of articles to keep us well informed. I like him. Not a hard class, but you need to do all the assignments and read the text book to get an A. I would recommend his class if you are willing to spend some time studying.
got a B in the class, uses aplia (online hw) a LOT, moreso than other micro teachers. midterm & final were ok, make sure you know your stuff. if you take good notes and understand the material well, you'll do pretty well in this class. lectures are super boring.. bring your laptop!
great professor, fair too. no need to come to class(boring), but is very helpful and will answer any question you have at any time. do the study guide questions before tests and quizzes and your golden
He's alright. His slides are a bit dull but overall I get the class thanks to him.
Avoid this teacher! To start with going to class is absolutely pointless, because you can easily teach yourself all the material by reading the book yourself- youd think a college proffessor would enlighten you somehow - but no- not him! He spends more time sending us articles every ha
Avoid him! Attending class is pointless -you could teach yourself all the material by reading the book yourself. you'd think a professor could enlighten you somehow, but no not him! He spends more time sending articles constantly instead of teaching all chapters and is rude. He's also harder than other micro teachers happily lowering our GPAs.
Professor Rubin is quite possibly the most boring professor at RU. However, he is helpful inside and outside of class, and is prompt in answering emails and responding in the chatroom. Unfortunately, that doesn't make up for the fact that he is less interesting than a congressional marathon on c-span. An "A" is in reach with a little work.
he's really boring and tends to go off topic a lot..his slides are dull...attendance is not mandatory but he gives pop quizzes which count towards your grade..so COME TO CLASS! it's an easy A as long as you put in effort, study, do study guides and aplia.
really boring but smart professor. i taught myself everything by reading the chapters before class. gives random in class quizzes that count, uses aplia and sends pointless emails all day. do the aplia study guide before exams!!! i got a B in the class with a lot of studying so i wouldnt say hes an easy A. if you want an easy A, take perry.
Senseless fellow. Has no idea of how to teach an introductory course. Exams are super hard. Cannot prioritize topics to study, will keep sending tons of material. Grades Applia in a meaningless tough manner and no feedback. Does not feel like an introductory class as teaches at an unreasonable level. There should be some sensibility. An introductor
Make sure to do all of your Aplia and get 100s on them because I got an F, D, and F on my midterms and finals and passed with a C because of the Aplia assignments. DO GO TO class because he occasionally gives out easy quizzes if your paying attention. I know a kid who never attended class and read the book and passed so its doable
He teaches the intro class as if we are all Economics majors. It's way too hard of a class for those of us just doing our reqs. homework 1-2x a week, online. Lectures are boring and very confusing. Doesn't answer questions too well. Lots of pointless emails. Exams are too hard, but lots of ways to get extra points. Class stressed me out !
B-O-R-I-N-G. He is the equivalent of watching CSPAN or that channel that shows you frame by frame shots of the traffic outside. He is completely dry and senseless. He does not possess any kind of humor whatsoever and makes everything he talks about utterly dull and boring. AVOID THIS MAN!!
Nice guy, but all he did in lecture is walk around the class and talk as if we have the book memorized word for word. When he'd ask a question in class, you could hear a pin drop. The material could've been made much easier if it was taught more effectively
idk what other people r saying, theyre prolly just bad at econ. i didn't read the textbook whatsoever, did most of aplia (missed like 15% of some assignments bc i forget), and got a B. i really believe if i read the book/studied/practiced old exams, i'd get an A - hes very straightforward, clear, and helpful. old exams are exactly what u will take.
I slacked a lot in this class and read the online study guide 2 hours before the exam and got 48 out of 55 in the first exam 46 in the 2nd. Homework helps u learn so do it with interest. Final exam was a little harder but manageable...easy class, i got a B+..but if you put in effort(unlike me) an A is what you would get.
I have a lot of patience and ended up doing well in his class. I never read the textbooks and my only studying were from notes I took in class (never used his online slides) and the old exams (***Study the old exams!***) What really pissed me off was having to purchase the Aplia; I would have gladly done the homework for 80 bucks less.
Honestly, micro with Rubin is not that bad as long as you print out the slides for classes and do the aplia assignments. I skipped class a lot but pulled off a B by just doing the aplia assignments, they force you to learn the material. Material is presented in a very clear way.
He is not bad at all. Lectures are boring but gives in assignments. HW every week usually but u get a hang of it. Exams are somewhat easy. Just keep up with your stuff and you will be fine. Do practice exams and study guides at the end of the chapters. Around 5 questions from each are used. Easy B+ id say.
I was bored to death when listening to his lecture. His lectures are useless. And he doesn't check attendance. But he often gives you a quiz that counts less than 10 points. Do Aplia homework. And read the textbook. Then You will be fine.
Very straightforward teacher. Decent lecturer but rather boring and tends to go off topic. Just need to read the book or learn by doing the Aplia. Not a hard course.
Useful, interesting teacher. Somewhat boring but he's a fair grader and doesn't really care about attendance. The book and Aplia homeworks are great. Good class overall (much better than other Econ teachers it seems.)
He's very nice and helpful, but lectures are boring. If you do the homework (do yourself a favor and don't forget) and the practice exams (very important) you'll do fine. He gives the occasional in class pop quiz, but they aren't worth a lot of points. He also curves, so an A is very possible with some work.
What I like about this class is that there are no tricky questions on the exams. As long as you know everything that is in the textbook, do Aplia, come to class for pop quizzes you will do well.
NOT RECOMMENDED. Doesn't lecture very well and makes things hard to understand. Aplia assignments are a pain and are time-consuming. Also has random in-class assignments. The best way to study for this class was to use the Aplia study guides. Lectures did NOT help me on the tests even though i went to all of them. Made me despise economics.
Amazing professor. Straight forward, easy to understand. Exams were fair, do yourself a favor and do the study guide because questions on the exam are in there. Do aplia and in class quizzes. they are good grade boosters!
Please do not listen to the negative comments about Rubin here. He is one of the best Econ professors at RU! If you do not put in the work and study, you will not do well in his class. Rubin is very very smart and know his stuff inside and out. His class forces you to learn and you will be amazed by how much you learned in the end. AMAZING GUY!
Good teacher knows his stuff. Very helpful. Lecture corresponds with textbook so if you dont understand his slides/miss class you can just read the textbook. Aplia is time consuming but helps for exams. Do study guide questions before exam and youll get atleast a B. Curves the class slightly at the end. Would absolutely recommend to take his class!
Micro is a boring subject if you don't make an effort to be interested in it. Rubin is very concise and clear, and half the questions from his practice exams appear on the real tests, almost verbatim. [ONE WORD OF ADVICE], Read the Chapter on the lecture, the day BEFORE class, and his lectures will make so much more sense. Also, no recitation.
Great teacher. Very helpful and clear. You have to put in work, but he is very fair and always willing to help. Highly recommend. Very knowledgable guy..
Can be a bit boring at times, but is a good lecturer and can get his point across. Do the past exams, some questions are exactly the same. I Put in some time into the class and got a B.
Very straightforward professor. Tests come straight from the book. Do not need to attend class, except for the random in class assignments that count for your final grade. Definitely go for them because failing to do so puts you at a 94 right away, and they're an easy 6 points to get
Okay, with this professor you have to put so much time for his class. I have no interest in economics business or ANY of this stuff... I just needed it for a requirement... he expects you know the stuff and gives hard exams. DO APLIA, COME TO CLASS, STUDY! Get ready for a great roller coaster. TA is no help either.
Good teacher. He can sometimes talk a lot about one topic but he gets the point through. Extremely easy class, for each exam I studied the day before and got A's
The exams themselves were relatively straight from the book. No need to ever attend class. However, the final was very hard for me. Got A's on 2 midterms and a C on final. Teacher is very BORING. Also, the TA is a POS who doesn't do anything and grades assignments harshly. Relatively average class IMO.
Easy A class! He follows the textbook in his lectures so he's pretty clear. He is a pretty boring lecturer and it isn't necessary to go to class to learn the material, just do the Aplia and you'll be fine.
Okay, this class is easy IF you are repeating it, or a jr/soph taking it. I did above average on all the exams and still got a B for the course. The test questions are tricky and are pretty hard. Study, reread the chapters for the exam, do the aplia that costs 80 dollars, and you'll do fine. He's also a pretty nice professor.
This guy is hard. He's a chill dude but his tests are so tricky. If I were you, I'd know the "margin" and "elasticity" inside and out. Attendance not mandatory but sometimes in class assign's. Aplia purchase is mandatory and $95. Final is very hard. Knowing the material is half the battle, you HAVE to be able to apply it. Boring lecture. Not easy A
he's a nice professor, but really bad at teaching the material. you will not do well if you don't spend at least a week studying for his exams. also the aplias are also kind of hard... take this class if you are a genius or if you have good guessing/test taking skills. if you aren't you are going to have to work your butt off. bad curve.
Honestly, his lectures are long and sometimes off topic. He is really nice, but his teaching skills are annoying. Take him only if you are really good at listening for 80 min straight and if you understand economics easily. Other than that, you MUST work HARD! Also, being in a lecture hall didn't help.
He's very good at teaching. Provides good examples, and makes you understand the material. Economics may not be the easiest course, but if you read the book, and listen lecture you can get an A. I got an A and didn't work that hard. If you can take him
His lectures are extremely boring. He follows the powerpoint but goes off topic often. There are occasionally in-class assignments but they are easy. His exams are actually fairly difficult BUT he reuses A LOT of questions from old exams so if you study from them you can do well. The curve was pretty good too 86=A. Aplia hw sucks.
He wrote the book. all his tests are difficult. his lectures are boring
I attended nearly every class. Not the worst teacher but can be really boring. Only complain was his very tricky exams. Final was pretty difficult as well. All in all, not the worst teacher but definitely not the best either
His lectures can be a bit boring but he adds some interesting insight and applicable real-life examples. He can also be pretty funny (at times) but you got to get his sense of humor (and appreciate his passion of economics). Anyways, if you read the book and go to lectures, you don't have to study that much.
Straightforward, boring lecturer, but go to class and try to pay attention. Easy A if you go to class and do the homework.
Boring lectures. Attendance not mandatory, but important to understanding the lectures. For exams review the power points and study guides he gives you and you should do okay. also there are random in class quizzes worth 10 points so you should definitely go to class.
Boring lectures. Read the powerpoints and do the homework. Homework is long but easy if you follow the book. Overall average. Super sweet guy though
If your English isn't that great, don't take him. He reads off the slides & gives HW using Aplia (worse HW-doing program ever). Go to lecture b/c he gives in class assignments that count towards your final course grade. Is he boring? Yes. He does curve but his cutoffs kinda suck. People pass but don't get the higher grade they deserve.
He reads off powerpoints that you can download online. Attendance is not mandatory. Online homework and a couple of in class assignments. Never went to lecture, read the book on my own, did the online homework. A on the first test, B on the second, B+ on the final, B+ in the class. The online homework def helps in understanding the material
One of my favorite professors at Rutgers!!! His lectures aren't boring if you actually pay attention. His exams are not tricky, they're straight forward. As long as you keep up with the readings, pay attention and do aplia homework you are guaranteed an A. - Don't take the class if you're not willing to do the work.
He gets off topic and focuses on topics that are really easy and then neglects the tougher ones. you should go to class because there are random in class assignments that he does throughout the semester. the book is literally the exam
Don't take this class! TERRIBLE microeconomics professor. I was turned off by the subject, but luckily Sheflin reinstalled by interest in it during Macro. RUBIN is very confusing, he gets off topic and does not actually talk about the subject matter. The Aplia can be difficult and his exams are very HARD since the questions come out of left field.
Be prepared to work a lot on your own if you want a good grade, lectures are pretty boring. Not horrible if you do all the online homework and try to learn on your own
Hard class and professor gets off topic easily. In class assignments are given so go to class. Homework is done online but helpful for exam. Must study to get a good grade
Gives out random assignments in class. Exams are very hard and tricky. Out to fail students.
BORING AND DIFFICULT.
His slides are from the textbook company so it really helps to read it. As a professor he is so boring and explains things really badly. He makes the class difficult and the concepts hard to grasp. His tests are hard and the questions don't always make sense.
easy a, uses test bank questions, reuses questions from previous exams
DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!! lectures are all over the place, unorganized and unstructured. he is knowledgeable, and teaches well, but does not follow a plan. 1 midterm, 30% (3 questions-basically a pass/fail), avrg was a 60), 2 assignemnts-15% each, final 40% (4 questions) grading on exams is VERY unfair, looks for specifics. easy ELECTIVE? HELL NO- AVOID
REALLY boring. Don't even bother going to lectures, they're a waste. Only gives 4 assignments, as said in the post below this. Expects a lot of comprehension but explains very little. Hard grader, especially on the mid term and final. I guess he isn't too bad compared to the rest of the department, but that isn't saying much.
really boring. doesn't cover half of the syllabus but somehow it has all ended up on the final.... what? midterm and final consist of 3-4 questions, all open ended and worth 10 points each towards your final grade so not a lot of room to mess up. don't take it?
Go to every class bc he sometimes hands out in-class assignments. Maximize points by doing well on Sapling HW. For the first two tests he uses a couple of questions from the study guides. Look at those. Final is somewhat difficult bc he rushed through the last few chapters. However, he lowered the cutoff for an A to an 86 for my class.
Do the sapling and the in class assignments and you'll do fine, i showed up to class 6 times the whole semester got out with a C never used the text book just used the power points to study from. His questions are tricky, there are easier intro to micro profs.
Not helpful. He sends a lot of random emails pertaining to things that he thinks is important. Went to every class but still did poorly. Do not take with him.
He's very educated in the field of economics and a very nice guy but very dry as a teacher, was difficult to stay awake and interested, really helps to read the text book and stay on top of things outside of class, the harder you work the better grade you will get.
Aghhhhhh. He's just SOOO BORING. I physically could not pay attention in class. I actually ended up bringing markers and paper to class. Why didn't i just skip you ask? Because he gives these random graded assignments in class. Do not recommend.
He is boring, but he explains concepts really well. Attendance is important because he gives in-class assignments that total 60 points towards your overall grade. If you attend class and take notes, you should do ok in this class.
really did not enjoy this class. i feel like if you aren't interested in the subject like i wasn't, you will have a difficult time.
He is very interested in the subject and this is made apparent by the many articles he sends out - they can be quite interesting. Class is very dry and boring, he uses the textbook slides and just reads off of them making it hard to pay attention. Gives random assignments totaling 60 points (don't worry about missing 1 or 2)
Gives about 4 in lecture assignments throughout the semester but you can work with other students around you. Lectures are long and stale, so take notes as best as you can, but read the textbook which is easy to comprehend. Often he posts articles on Sakai, don't bother reading them since they weren't on any tests or the final.
He is extremely dry. Rehashes things from the textbook and his exams are quite dificult. Would not recommend
