Mr. Anderson is very helpful and comes to class everyday with the best attitude no matter how early. He's very nice and understanding when it comes to students, probably because he was a student himself a few months ago. (:
Mr. Anderson is byfar the most caring & helpful teacher I have ever had. He is willing to do anything to help out his students. He's also the most enthusiastic teacher I have ever had for a math class. MATH is his LIFE! What astounded me aswell is how fast he was able to learn student names. He truly cares for every single person in his class.
Dr. Anderson always encourages his students to study math enthusiastically. He's very dedicated to math. However, his explanation is very hard to understand. I'm saying this as one who has ever studied the material in d past. There are three midterms and 25% for d final.
This is the first quarter Anderson taught Foothill. He is a young and engergetic teacher. Although there was three midterm and 1 final each quarter, he gave us practice exam before midterm and final. So you just need to focus on these sample exams, then you can get high scores. Anyway, you can learn something more than the book.
Great teacher! Teaches with great passion and really knows his stuff. 3 midterms and 1 final which are hard but he provides practice exams to prepare for each one. The practice exams give you a good idea of what type of questions are to be expected and the difficulty level. Personally, I survived because of them. Highly Recommend!
Good Teacher
He is really nice and energetic. Fair graded and cover most of the materials in the book. He also offers practice midterm to us, it is more or the same as the real one.
One of the most amazing instructors I've ever taken. He is very dedicated to his students and passionate about his subject. You will not regret taking his class. Not only will you learn about math but you will come out of the class learning more about yourself as a student. Take him.
Simply one of the best -if not the best- instructors I've ever taken in life. He really enjoys teaching, undoubtedly a genius and he knows how to have fun! In his class you're not only learning calculus, Jeff will also provide you with many helpful tips and tricks to help your life as a college student, and a person
I took his class on my first quarter and I'm glad I did. He is really passionate and "math-maniac". The exams are really similar with the practice he gave before, so if you have a decent knowledge of Calculus, you just need to study the practice. You don't have to attend the class regularly, just make sure you turn in all HWs at the end of quarter.
BEST teacher ever!! He cares about his students and do his best to help everybody. Just go to his office hours if you have problems, so he can help and explain everything to you.
he is so horrible! you get a lot of useless homework and you need to spend sooo many time on watching the video and finish the homework. I have print over 600 pages papers for the homework, and the exam is very difficult and much more hard than the book's homework. taking his class is the most regret thing I EVER did!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
IT IS A BAD PROFESSOR , DO NOT RECOMMEND
As a teacher he would do anything he can to help a student who has trouble understanding the concepts of the material. He ain't that type of instructor who only cares what your work shows instead he'll create personal contact with each of his students [by the 2nd week he knew all of our names]. He is patient and fair.
Dr. Anderson has a genuine hope for everyone to succeed in his classroom.
One of the best professors ever to walk on Foothill land. Very energetic in class. Genuinely wants his students to succeed and so he is always pushing you to work hard not only inside class but also outside. I would suggest get to know him or at least introduce yourself to him. He will remember. Really cool guy and I highly recommend his class!
He gives 30 pages of homework EVERYDAY, I never heard of him talking about a problem. He only talks about how much he loves math, and do the problems yourself
I struggled to understand his lecture for a while, especially first a few classes. That's because he is new to teaching math2B. However, after the midterm, I start to get used to his style. In regular quarter, his lecture may be much better, because in the summer he has to prepare class every night for the next day class, tough for him to teach.
He is a PHD, he likes to introduce how the math links to real world, (how you can use it to make money). Very special teacher, I find myself to be in love with Linear algebra after watching him demonstrate how to use it to process image in Matlab!
Not easy, be prepared.
He is hard do not take him. There is a daly quiz everyday that is worth 10% of you're grade along with two midterms that are 20% each and the grand finale which can save one of your midterms and it is worth 35% of your grade. The quizzes are traps and sometimes are different from your homework. Class is hard. He goes off topic. does not lecture muc
He doesn't teach u, he always talk about things off topic. The time he spends on quiz is more than 1 hour. Tons of homework makes u crazy. All students study themselves. As an international student, I had the toughest time deal with his class. Never take his class!
I get a lot of this class. We take daily quizzes. Jeff allows us to do quiz corrections to make up 50% of the points we miss. He covers the solutions to the quizzes live in class. I get the change to figure out what I know and don't know on the daily. He returns the graded quizzes the next class. Awesome. It's obvious this guy cares about us!
He is young and doesn't know how to teach well. Off topic frequently, quiz everyday! U also have read your book yourself since u can only lean few in his class. Well, he is proud of himself and proud of his teaching style. We don't agree with his teaching, though.
Makes us work hard in-class and after class. Pushes me to be the best I can be. Willing to meet me in office hours. Don't expect the standard lecture experience. He doesn't talk us like other teachers. It took me a little bit of time to get used to but I actually prefer this style over traditional lecture now. Puts me in the driver seat!
Jeff is a good teacher. He is approachable and kind. If you're a good student and willing to work hard, you will do well. I see a few of my classmates complaining: I feel like these students want an easy A. Show up regularly, do the homework, study for the quizzes and don't cut corners. He's said this many times and it's working for me.
he is good at math, but he doesn't know how to teach math. what he teaches us is really different from what the textbook says. tons of homework and quiz drive u crazy. if u want to have an A, prepare to spend 5 hour per day!
avoid taking him, I'm serious! He is enthusiasm but u can learn really little from him. Get ready to read the text book yourself and spend 4 hours per day to catch his step.
He's a good teacher. He cares about his students.
Final grade 10% daily quiz, 10% HW, 20% Exam 1, 20% Exam 2, 40% Final. He allows quiz corrections worth 12 missed points. He allows exam corrections worth 14 missed points. He allows you to turn in late homework worth 80%. He has a PhD in Linear Algebra and he has a lot to say about this subject. He expects a lot from his students! Good teacher
Without studying yourself u cannot even do the homework! Confusing lectures and too much homework, u don't wanna take his class, trust me!
Jeff is a nice person, but I couldn't learn from him. His class made me think that I'm not smart. I barely learn really a little from him. When I check the homework, I always have no idea how to solve it. I got all A's in Math 1A to 2A, but I fail this course in summer. His daily quiz includes the stuff that u haven't even heard from him!
The people complaining here either do not listen during class or they do not attend class. Jeff is hands down the best professor I've had at Foothill, and he constantly looks for ways to better his class and teaching style. Don't sign up late for his class or you'll have to clean his whiteboard, but it's a worthwhile tradeoff for his amazing class.
Very nice person and genuinely wants his students to succeed, but not the best teacher. Also, shows obvious favoritism to some students. Never responds to personal emails or if not takes a really long time to respond.
Jeff is a really good teacher, really cares about his students. If you study from the exam reviews he sends out and go to the foundations lab to work with the teachers there, you can definitely do great on your exams. I think jeff is too nice that people take advantage of him sometimes. Definitely recommend his class!
Take his class. Jeff is a great mathematician and he is starting to be a great teacher. First half of the quarter wasn't great: not enough lectures, over-overbearing homework. He noticed that it does not work for students and radically improved strategy for the rest of the quarter. Grading is extremely fair + lots of opportunities for extra pts.
Jeff is a young, education-changing professor and THE guy to take for Linear Algebra. Extremely knowledgeable, insightful and animate! He adapts his teaching-style to cater any person and any class. He keeps the class coherent, so working with others is easy. Getting an A is very manageable and he prepares you above and beyond for your education
The worst teacher ever! U have to teach yourself every single chapter, but u still will get bad grades in his class! Avoid taking his class. For the students who enroll his class, I can only say: Good luck
worse teacher ever, avoid at all cost! makes you do a lot of work and does not really teach - its basically a self teach class.
He is a nice person but not a nice teacher.
Jeff is a good math teacher I have ever had. He gives us weekly quiz, and if you correct the quiz, you can get half of the missing points back. His exams are not very hard if you study everything he says in the lectures. I recommend this teacher to you all!
Jeff is very gentle and kind, but I thought his lectures were unclear and not thorough. You MUST self study on your own if you want to get an A in his class; his tests can be quite deceiving (part multiple choice and part free response). In conclusion, I wouldn't recommend you to take this professor, but if you must, BE SURE TO SELF STUDYYYYY!!!
a looot of work ..A is achievable .. a lot of extra credit.. listen and reaaaally care about his students.. if you are not a hard work student avoid... if you are, you will not have any troubles .. the key : stay in pace
The worst math 2b teacher of all time ! his time-wasting homework does no help for his exam. his class is misleading. his esam is super tricky. only 15% of the class pass the exam ! I get A in all of my math classes(except 2b), CS classes, physcis classes and I study very hard , but cannot pass his class. Choose his class fail his class anyway.
OKay class. You need to self study because he does not teach that much. Not much extra credit oppertunities but he changes his class if he thinks his students need the class to be changed a little bit. He is VERY into math. He is the only math teacher I know that is that excited about math.
He's not a very good teacher. His lectures are far different from the homework so expect to spend a few long hours trying to understand the homework. Added to that, his lectures are all about proofs which most of the class seems to get confused on.
He is one of the best teachers i have ever had. Very passionate and patient. You can get every knowledge you need from him. Also he has extra credits and corrections, you can get you credits back after you actually learn. Keep working and you will get an A!
He needs to teach a bit better. When we run out of time by the end of class, he rushes a certain topic. Then that specific topic will end up being on the test. So dissapointing.
Mr. Anderson is really passionate and enthusiastic about math, something that every professor should be with their own field. I found the class easy to pass but it is important to do your work. You need to be in class on time for the daily concept quizzes or it'll hurt your grade.
He does not give a lesson period. He expects students to use fundamentals to "figure out" a better method for them to learn on their own. So you teach yourself. There is loads of homework online and written. Quiz every morning, text every friday, and 3 midterms. He never gets to the point and goes deep into unnecessary logic. Would not take again.
Really funny teacher. Makes class go by pretty fast and if you have him early in the morning he will definitely wake you up with some laughter. You can correct exams and book homework for a better grade. Also online homework can be corrected as well. Very easy to pass if you stay on top of work. there is ALOT of work that he assigns tho.
Jeff is an awesome professor! He is so enthusiastic and a fun guy. He is always willing to improve himself and his teaching. Unfortunately, his office hours are limited, but he is good about working with you. His tests have gotten easier than they were in previous quarters. He is a very fair grader. I would highly recommend taking Jeff, he's great!
Great mind for math, but comes across as infantilizing and seems to be oblivious to students' time constraints. Interesting guy and engaging lecturer, appears to be highly motivated and cares about the job.
Great teacher! Had him for Spring Quarter of last year. Very willing and understanding of students' time and will help out with everything. Lots of homework, but if done, it will help you understand the content better. Pop quizzes at the beginning of every class were a little surprising and bad if you're gonna be late tho. Great class all around!
I had the best experience being in class with Jeff. He is by far one of the best math teachers at Foothill. His lectures are great, extremely clear and helpful. He is there to help you and push you to success. In his linear algebra class, I did not learn useless concepts, but I understood how and when linear algebra becomes useful. HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Really a nice guy, funny, and witty. But, that's where it ends. Most students still don't know how to do his tests questions to this day. Unless you think like him, who's lectures are at 80 MPH, you wont pass
He is extremely passionate about the topic and really wants you to understand it all; lots of theory. Tests are fair; I got a C, but his enthusiasm is inspirational, and he likes to apply it to real life. Very helpful if you ask for it.
Jeff is an AMAZING teacher! He is there for the students and helped me go from failing his tests to getting a B on his final. His office hours were super helpful. He is always looking to improve. He started talking slower. He is a fair grader. His tests aren't easy, but he allows test corrections. I would highly recommend taking him.
I failed math 105 2 times and took it with Jeff for my third time and passed it with an A. I don't see how people can actually think he's difficult. He's super funny and will help you if you ask for it. He assigns videos to watch that are VERY useful and teach you how to do the steps in the homework. He also lets you correct quizzes and homework!
Even though his class was hard, he made it interesting and I genuinely looked forward to his class (which is saying a lot considering math has always been my least favorite subject). He is tough, but fair, and will help you if you ask for it.
When you take his exam, you will found that's not for the math class, it's the English reading and writing test.
best professor! very helpful very kind and welling to do everything to see his students succeed. I have had office hours with him before class, before 8 a.m. and guess what? he is on campus before everyone! he wants you to learn and succeed I couldnt emphasize enough how nice he is. I am an international student and he was the reason me liking math
The material is very easy to grasp and quizzes are very manageable, but exams are very tricky and often too abstract with what he normally teaches. The application is also very physics heavy, which isn't good if you've never been introduced to physics. Nice guy overall, but his superior PhD knowledge is not ideal for teaching prereq math.
He has 'concept quizzes' at the start of every class for 10 min. and they account for 10% of your grade which are really easy so in a way, attendance does not matter but coming to class on time does! He's very understanding 50% chances end up going for tutoring cuz we're in a quarter system but he designed the course in a way that everyone can pass
By far one of the best math professors I have ever had! Jeff really cares about his students success. He is helpful, understanding, and will explain something until you understand it. Jeff makes math fun. He jokes and has fun with his class. He even bought the whole class lunch for having the most time in math lab. Awesome Awesome professor.
Jeff is an ok teacher if you do everything you learn the way he taught you as if you do it a different way he'll mark you down. Also If you need help in that class and you are not failing the class you should expect to wait a long time. He may be funny but his style of teaching is too confusing. He will also run the class past the dismissal time.
Difficulty is a 5 since he redefines the way you have been taught how to do math (problem sets) and forces you to understand the theory behind each concept word for word. Quality is a 3 since his goals are a bit too ambitious given the limited resources he provides. You only have his notes to work with and he is spread too thin to ask questions.
I have never met a professor that cares about his students more than Jeff does. He teaches you how to succeed and provides the methods necessary to do well in his class. Super enthusiastic and you can tell he truly loves what he does. Amazing class, difficult but doable .
The best math teacher I ever had in my life! Most caring teacher I had so far. Get ready to work hard but he will definitely do everything he can to help you pass.
2 exams, one final. Multiple choices. Replace final with one exam if it helps improve grades. He is a great professor, but you need to really study. Very straight forward, so don't make minor mistake like i did, because his exams are multiple choices. He really want his student to pass and help them understand the materials.
Jeff is really passionate about teaching and goes in-depth into the material. However, he has unrealistic expectations of his students. He expects you to spend 10 hours a week rewriting lecture notes and more on reviewing and homework (I didn't). We also didn't finish covering all the material of the subject. Take him if you care about math.
I love Jeff Anderson. He deserves a Nobel peace prize for making an 8 AM Linear Algebra class actually kinda fun. His exams and final are on the more difficult side, but they are certainly manageable. He's one of the most caring professors you will ever have, and he goes out of his way to ensure that you succeed in your classes. he also loves jay z
Okay. I love Jeff. And at the same time, I'm not comfortable with the idea of taking an advanced Linear Algebra course because he didn't teach the extent of the standard material for Intro to Linear Algebra. He has very high, very unrealistic expectations, but so do I, so that meshed well with me. He's brilliant. And you will definitely learn.
He really cares about the students and he's real passionate about the students. This class is pretty conceptual. He still is a bit new, but his tests aren't so bad.
This class is good for you if you plan on taking one class and one class only. Otherwise, you're screwed. Anderson is a good professor in his own right, but does not realize that students have other classes besides his. Material is much too in depth and more suited for graduate school, not for people just trying to finish the class for reqs.
Jeff tries to be a cool and relatable, it's annoying and unnecessary. We're there to pass the class, not listen to him talk about his personal life. There's a quiz at the start of every class, and the online homework is the next class day. I did like is that he's easy to talk to. His lectures seem to drag on excessively even when class is over.
Hands down the best Math professor I've ever had! It's shocking to see he has a low rating, he deserves more. Yes, he does assign a lot of HW but it's so that you can master the material. His teaching makes math seem so simple, he also allows test corrections! A very caring professor that always has your best interest in mind! He's hella funny too
Avoid this professor if you want to transfer to top UCs. Post a bunch of lectures online and do practice in class on your own without explaining anything which is clearly not an efficient way of studying difficult courses like math 1C.
Don't take this class if you don't have enough time to cover his materials (which are unnecessary). You have to take notes from his video lectures on Youtube (which consumes about 10 hours out of class per week, not including MyMathLab homework), meanwhile, he wasn't lecturing in the class but just giving out in class exercises instead.
Jeff is a good guy. He focuses too much on proofs/theory behind math rather than teaching how this math will actually be applied in the real world. On one hand, it is nice to understand the entirety of the theory behind this subject, but I would say it is unnecessary. His tests are extremely hard; we'll see how I end up doing by the end of the term
Jeff is an amazing professor. I feel lucky to have taken his class. I don't think I have taken a class from a professor who is as passionate as he is. I wish I could take all my math classes with him.
This professor doesn't help one bit. I already suck at math and he makes me hate it! He tries too hard to be funny and relatable to his younger students but no one cares! We just want to learn and understand the material. Plus , he gives us homework for material we haven't even covered, how does that even help?! I truly regret taking his class.
Easily the best professor ever. Awesome lectures, posts lecture notes, easy tests, tells you what will be on the test, allows test corrections that will improve your grade by a ton, allows 3 entire note sheets during the test, no mandatory homework. Had him for 1c and d, got an A+ in both. Trust me take this guy. Advice-Study his in class proofs.
Jeff is probably the best math teacher at Foothill College. He has a process to teach you how to be a better student, and individually meets with his students. Very intense. He tests on derivations and understanding with test corrections to allow you to fully understand the concepts. Just allow 5 hrs/credit, rather than 3.
I felt that I was horrible at math before taking Jeff's class. He explains concepts well, values student feedback and tailors the class to the students' need. We asked to be able to work in groups during tests and quizzes and he found a way to make it happen. He cares a lot, making sure that you truly know the material and that you don't feel lost.
Easily the best professor at Foothill. Take him if you want those sweet math skills and if you care for the quality of your education. He's intense, but for a good reason. If you're ready to become a better mathematician and a better student this man is the best choice. If you're here just for the grade and don't really care move along.
Inspired me to do well in math. Made me believe in myself. Great moral support and caring personality. Genuinely concerned with helping his community of students
He is very passionate to his students, he really does want you to pass his class. if you hate math, take his class!!! he is a good professor. He does not lecture a lot but gives a lot of class group work. His motto "do not do math alone."
Great individual, knowledgeable professor. Lecture notes and video lectures are posted online, so you don't need a textbook. I took his class in summer. No homework, no quiz, 2 exams and final. You can earn several points doing the exam corrections (optional). Lectures and exams focus mainly on proofs. If you understand proofs, you can get A/A+
tough but a fun quarter
He's a good person and talented at teaching, as you can tell from his videos. However, he spends most of class time talking about setting goals or his college experiences. Going to class becomes practically useless. Very proof heavy and he is particular about how you present your work. Does exam corrections for points though
He is a really hard teacher. The in class quizzes that you get about 2 times a week are a waste. You have to explain why you got your answers. What a waste of time. He also swears and then he thought it was funny for him to do that,
Avoid like the plague. The problem with this professor is that he doesn't lecture. He posts a bunch of online videos that have little correlation with the book. In class you work on "in class problems" with no guidance. Knowing the book practice problems will get you nothing on his exams. Good luck if you have no alternatives.
Never ever take this course from him. He will spend 70% of the class talking about something not really related to the class. He is not really teaching MATLAB, and it is almost final week, we haven't got our first lab back yet.
Jeff has the potential to become a phenomenal professor. I gave him a 4 because I can see that he is putting in the effort to improve. If you're planning on taking his class next quarter, make sure that you know how to self-teach yourself. Class time is best spend working through problems with peers, or asking the TA/Jeff math-related questions.
Jeff teaches this course differently than you might expect. He has chosen to focus deeply on fundamentals, instead of the wide variety of built-in features of MATLAB. All things aside, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this class. This class will give you a basic understanding of computing unlike any other class that exists and will help you succeed in the future
Miss class and you won't get important information for his lab assignments, so go. Really good teacher and wants you to succeed. He even lets his students correct their own exams and turn it in again for regrading. He mostly wants his students to practice becoming independent learners. Really cares for his students so will be lenient if deserved.
Jeff is one of the most passionate professors on campus. He cares deeply about his students and their conceptual understandings in all the courses he teaches. In engr11, he focuses more about how MATLAB functions at a deep level and less about all bells and whistles of its graphics capabilities. Jeff is actually writing his own curriculum/textbook.
If you are interested in being introduced to the hierarchy of computer architecture and would like to invest your time into understanding how MATLAB works from first principles, this class with Jeff will be a golden opportunity for you.
Base off the MATLAB classes my friends have taken with other professors and the MATLAB resources available online, there is not a comparable experience or resource that will guide you to understand MATLAB at the insightful level Jeff educates his students with.
Students greatly benefit seeing Jeff's Ph.D. perspective on why learning MATLAB's essentials will make you a more knowledgeable. His goal is not only to help his students succeed (by allowing test corrections and accepting late work) but to teach this class in a way to give his students the confidence to put MATLAB as a skill on a resume.
He is one of the best professors Ive had the pleasure of working with. He understands and has perfected his craft but he also understands the depths of the learning process. In his class you will have the opportunity to learn. Its up to you.. it will require effort within reason. PLUS: He allows you to correct your quizzes and exams.
If you are looking for an easy A this is not the professor for you. Jeff wants you to DEEPLY understand the material so his class emphasizes self-teaching, which translates to a ton of work outside of class for students. Stick it out and you will learn more from him than any teacher you have ever had. I cannot recommend him highly enough.
Claims that his class set-up offers deeper understanding of material, came out with surface level understanding. Doesnt lecture in class. No quizzes. Homework is to watch youtube playlists of lecture videos. He bashes the textbook. Offers students little options for learning the material. I love math, he got me to hate math. Avoid like the plague.
Didn't cover necessary material for linear algebra so I probably have to retake intro lin alg later. Website with course materials "appliedlinearalgebra". We only covered up to lesson 15 out of 30, not getting to determinants, eigenvalues. Avoid if you need this class as a prereq. He's a good lecturer, at least I have a understanding of the basics.
Would not recommend. Class time is basically study hall. Little interaction, he seemed more focused on trying to "mentor". Would have loved it if class time was actually used to teach. If you are good at teaching yourself, you could do fine since he allows test corrections, but be warned unclear criteria for points given back on correction.
GREAT teacher. All you have to do is STUDY and ask questions. He'll give you the opportunity to do makeup work and all the tools to pass, just show up, and pay attention.
Super chill guy, hes really there to help you succeed. So supportive and understanding. Likes Nipsey Hussle
Amazing teacher. Would recommend to anyone who has a hard time in math. He doesnt do a lot of lecturing which I truly prefer but will help one on one or with your group. Just show your committed to learn and work on sample quizzes.
I respect Jeff as a person, he cares and tries to help you more than other professors. However, the work you have to do is a lot for 1 class, and almost all proving theorems, no application. If you don't have a vested interest in math or are able to learn with a flipped classroom model(watching online lecture videos), you'll hate this class.
He is actually the worst teacher that I've ever had. He does 0 teaching in class and assigns hours of videos to watch for hw. He only focuses on derivations and they all must be extremely detailed(at least 5 pages double-sided). I learned more from one khan academy video than 6 months of his class. Trust me, don't waste your time
Jeff cares about his students more than any professor I've had. My class with him was from 6:00 P.M. to 8:15 P.M. and he would stay for at least an extra hour after to class to help students. Rather than lecturing, he gives you time in class to work on the material and get help from him, the TA, or other students.
Jeff is a great teacher who actually cares about his students. He goes above and beyond the line of duty to ensure you pass his class. Jeff is an inspirational type of teacher that I wish I had growing up. He doesn't make you feel stupid and his videos are really useful! 10/10 would take him!
I've read a lot of these reviews and a lot are biased. It is true this class is unconventional. Indeed, he can often leave you feeling abandoned in the material. However, from what I've seen in class is people DONT ASK FOR HELP. It's not that hard to lose your pride and just admit you need help. He will do anything to help students. Jeff is Amazing
Jeff usually doesn't respond to email because he prefers to talk face-to-face. He is a great teacher, interesting, helpful and respectful. You can get a chance to correct your exam and you can get some points back after he returns the exams. In engr11, he doesn't teach how to code directly, but there are lots of other interesting things for you.
I took Engineering 11 - Matlab with this professor. Jeff really cares about making personal interactions with students. He has a passion for his field that he truly wants to share with the class. The class is a lot of work but if you are serious about engineering or coding, I would highly recommend it.
my experience in Jeff class was amazing I remember just be scared to fail math since I felt horrible at it. The first day changed my life because here was this super cool and caring teacher that was so sure we all were hella good at math and so I started to feel that way yes his teaching style is different and I actually prefer it that way
he truly cares about your success in his course, how much you learn, and your ability to make the most out of your education. Remember to make an appointment to meet him during office hours!! Find his free mentorship for students on YouTube by searching: 'thelearningcode' and filter by channel. and ask him about 'the learning code blog'!
Please give Jeff the chance to completely change your mind about math! If you are like me, math was never my strong suit, but since taking his course my whole mind has changed around math! even going as far as to take harder math courses. He is funny, caring, and real AF. His TA's are just as awesome! please do yourself a favor and take his courses
By the time you read this review, you'll probably have a way better experience in this class than I did. Jeff is still developing his content and working to create the resources for everyone to learn from. He's a great professor. He's caring and willing to work with you around your needs. He's much different from the other professors, in a good way
Jeff is THE BEST PROFESSOR in Foothill. He is selfless and works so hard for his students. He will literally let you text him and meet him any time of any day. He has taught me and inspired me the most ever in my whole college years. I HAVE NEVER SEEN A MORE CARING TEACHER. this means he'll help u with anything so ur learning and success is 100%.
If you are looking for an easy class, this certainly is not it. Jeff really cares about your personal development but also expects a lot from you. You can definitely tell that he is very passionate about MATLAB and is very willing to help out if you ask. Being successful in this class requires hard and consistent work but it is definitely worth it.
Jeff is one of the best prof in Foothill. He work hard ,care student and inspire students. But honestly, the class structure is very bad, I did not learn too much how to code with MATLAB. He just teach some very basic stuff through his online video. If u want to learn some philosophy of life, take it. If deeping stuff about MATLAB, no.
Awesome guy with great YouTube Lectures! No tests for online but one continuous learning portfolio that comes with weekly one-on-one meetings. His instructions are sometimes a bit vague or overcomplicated so be sure to clarify them.
In COVID, he restructured the entire class to offer students more time with him during lecture hours + generous on office hours. His grading has gone the way of Patrick Morris (another prof. at foothill). His tests are portfolios that you continuously work on until the last day. He also offers an applied math project that makes math relevant.
Greatest professor I've ever met at Foothill. Jeff works so hard to provide good resources to every student. This is not a traditional math course. You don't work for grades here but you work for improving yourself.
One of the greatest professors I have ever met at Foothill. This class is not a traditional math class. You are not going to be grade based on few tests. You would need to update your progress as the quarter goes. It is not hard at all if you regularly spend time on it.
Jeff's course is different from other mathematics courses. He cares more about students' real development than just credits. His courses are also humorous, even online. It has to be said that he spent a lot of effort in making this course, and he is definitely a good professor worthy of going on.
Jeff was an awesome instructor. Not only did he touch upon MATLAB but he also made us work on good habits. I definitely came out learning much more than just a software language, would take again.
If you transfer to a four-yr school and continue to take math classes there, then his math 2B is not sufficient at all. Topics listed on the Foothill website are not covered at all. Many of reviews are not reliable because anyone can easily get As in this class. Who blames a prof who gave them easy As? As a math major, I'm totally unsatisfied.
Jeff is really nice, but I learned absolutely nothing in this class. He basically talks about how to learn for 12 weeks. No exams or homework. You can complete the course material in 40 hours or less, and will probably get an A. Jeff has like 6 TAs and they are super supportive of everything his says, and it creates a weird dynamic in the lecture.
I saw a bunch of reviews below saying that they learned absolutely nothing or that his class isn't sufficient at all. While it's true that this class isn't your cookie-cutter college math class, you are bound to learn more if you were to apply yourself the same amount as in other classes. This class is basically what you make of it.
Jeff CARES about his students and it shows. This may not be your traditional math class bombarded with difficult tests and strict deadlines but he is taking a different approach here. If you want to dive deep into Linear Algebra or even just math in general, this is the class for you. Jeff is also available for meetings both in class and outside.
All the material is posted online, so you can check his notes even when you finish the class. When you have meetings with him, you can ask him anything related to the class or any help with quizzes or tests.
Jeff is definitely a good professor. He gives access to a ton of videos, tries to help you really understand the content on a super deep level, and cares about students and their lives, even if they end up doing nothing with math.
Jeff cares for his students for real for real. He's very understanding and his classroom isn't like a regular lecture during zoom meetings. He makes sure that we're actually learning and checks up on us when it comes to our work. Linear Algebra is pretty difficult as it is so of course you needa put in some effort.
His teaching method may not entirely work for me BUT he is super caring and everyone can see it. He really wants ALL of his students to pass and enjoy Maths. There isn't a lot of homework but still he does expect you to put in some effort. I would say it is an easy A if you do all the quizzes and attend classes :))
You will learn absolutely nothing if you don't watch the videos and study by yourself. All the videos are posted on youtube so you can access them anytime you want. He talks a lot of philosophy and cares about the students but if you DO NOT respect him by not studying and learning the appropriate material, he will get real MAD about it.
He'll make you take the initiative in your own learning. That's the most important thing I learned in this class.
I took notes on his lectures and tried to study before the quarter started but he took a look at my notes and said that I have a shallow understanding and that this deserves around a C. Those notes weren't for him, they were for me to understand and he told me I deserve a C because I didn't explain enough. I retook the class with Bita and got an A.
Best teacher you could have, it may not be everyone's style of learning but Jeff GENUINELY cares about his students, more than any other teacher I have ever had. He makes me so motivated and pushes you to do better and makes you feel smart which is not what I have ever got from a my teacher before.
Jeff's class is unlike any college course. You learn many things outside of MATLAB such as system navigation, deep learning, etc. You decide your own grade and there are no exams. You will need to find motivation to complete your work because there are no deadlines. I wished I had taken Jeff when I first started college to apply his lessons earlier
Jeff is an amazing math 48A professor. He wants you to succeed. The course is done at your own pace you have 12 weeks to do 16 lesson packets. The course load is not overbearing. His lessons also have solutions posted and Youtube videos on the solutions. WATCH THEM!! Super helpful and amazing class. I am taking his 48B class next quarter too -Gena
To those who claim you will not learn in Jeff's class. I would assert that there likely isn't much authentic learning happening in most STEM classes. For too many, the current system results in shallow learning to pass a test and get an A at any cost. Jeff will teach you how to move beyond grade-focused learning and into real learning. INVALUABLE
There is not enough space in this box to describe Jeff, truly a unique, once-in-a-lifetime experience and I'm so fortunate to take a class w/ Jeff. He will push and motivate you like never before. Will mentor and guide you in-n-out of the class. He's a truly beautiful person inside (and out ofc). He cares about each one of his student's success.
Professor Jeff taught students how to learn GENUINELY. You will experience a totally new method of learning. You have to learn yourself and make notes of that, but he will give you a bunch of feedback.
He removed grades and deadlines, without finding a proper solution to the flaws like lack of motivation. He talks unrelated to math like how to navigate college and ways to study efficiently which is great but some students may not like it. He is a great teacher who will talk with you a lot and create a plan to suit your needs but be self-motivated
Jeff helped me to create tendencies to work towards truly understanding the content. You'll show him evidence of your lesson progression and how strong your "deep learning" is. Write down and ask your lesson questions! With no timed tests or conventional grades, Jeff's class let me truly learn and enjoy linear algebra stress-free.
this class is fun it changes your perception of math that is if you hated math before you will enjoy it.
Took this class for two quarters, can I say best professors I have ever taken. He cares about every student and understands people have lives outside of class. I had a daughter and it was never why did you miss class but rather how can I assist, and making sure I was on track and understanding all the material. This class is way ahead of its time.
Great professor. Nice handouts and videos which were very clear. Very engaging project too, which wasn't mandatory but made the course fun for me.
Prof. Jeff cares about his students and wants them to succeed. He meets with them 1-1 a few times per quarter and is understanding during these meetings. I also sent some of his videos to someone else and that person said that "[t]he teacher is not just a good teacher, but an outstanding teacher. You can really learn a lot from him."
This class has reshaped how I take math notes and schedule my time. You get to pick your grade, which is obviously unlike many classes. Still, you need the self-discipline to take quality lecture notes that show understanding because he grants the privilege to grade yourself on this. He cares so much about your personal success beyond the course.
This class may be confusing at first because it's different from other subjects. If you learn the material and focus on your learning rather than the grade then this class is one of the best classes if you want to sincerely learn.
Jeff teaches the content via online videos and a free, self-written textbook. He does a good job of teaching the class and explaining concepts. However, class time is not used efficiently. He spends a lot of time talking about his own experiences. It's repetitive, unnecessary, and ironic because he complains about not having enough time.
Jeff puts the most time into his job and students out of any professor or teacher I have ever had. He teaches you how to succeed not just in his class, but in all college classes. Highly recommend this class for anyone.
Jeff Anderson cares about his students. At the beginning of the quarter he will teach you about system navigation and how to conquer college before anything else. You will most likely learn from your other classmates just as much as you learn from Jeff. As long as you give your honest, best effort, you will pass the class.
Jeff deeply cares about the success of every single of his students. He meets you one-to-one and gives you feedback on your progress throughout the quarter. His class structure is very organized and straightforward. You learn at your own pace, and there are no timed exams. So you can fully focus on learning and becoming a better learner.
If you'd like to improve at learning to solve problems in STEM or life, this class will give you many genuine opportunities to do so! The skills, relationships, and identities (I'm not an engineering person vs. I'm the dopest and most important engineering person I can be) developed are transferable to our professional & personal lives. I
We learned to write math & programs for people, not CPUs. I saw my crazy ideas, along with my peers were heard, respected, and valued throughout the course. Each and every class I felt like I was actively learning in solitude or solidarity(in groups) rather than listening. By design of the class I learned from my peers, and my own discoveries! woot
There is no half-life to the lessons and curriculum in this course. By iterating through Plan - Act - Reflection cycles, I was able to apply the thinking, writing, and coding skills in this course to all of my other STEM courses, and beyond. This has been the only class that's inspired me to read and write STEM, b/c it's personalized by design.
Jeff didn't wait for students to show symptoms of disengagement, before extending professional love (aka good teaching, coaching, and mentorship) to us. It is the reservoir of love and safety we receive from him, leaders, each other, and our loved ones, when we are whole - that sustains us when we are in navigating college & the mysteries of life
3 priceless lessons I learned from this class: We were encouraged to borrow (give credit) and built on the work of others, instead of starting from scratch. We formatted our learning and code to help ourselves and others understand our work. We wrote clearly, as we were coached to not be too clever and not to sacrifice clarity, for efficiency.
Don't pick this class expecting a normal stem class (Lectures only concept + problems, 80% score exams.) Your performance in this class will 90% depend on the quality of your notes, so if you hate taking notes and love taking exams consider this thoroughly. 80% of content will be learning strategies, and will only go over math concepts when asked.
Jeff was a great teacher that showed he really cared about his student's success in college, he gave us lots of information that would help us make money from going to college and pushed us to work on ourselves. The only thing about the class is that a lot of the learning is independent or group learning which surprisingly worked out great for me.
Taking this class was the best decision I have ever made. I learned so much in the class and had so much fun with my group. Be prepared to spend a lot of time outside of class on work, but I actually enjoyed the work for once. Make sure that you choose a group that matches with your expectations, priorities, and commitments.
This man is a legend. He really cares about your learning and well-being, and that is what sets him apart from most other professors. Take him if you want a self-directed class. You learn a lot of Linear Algebra, but you also learn study skills. Great class!
Jeff is like no other professor you'll ever have, his classes are a unique experience with the potential to change the way you go through college. he has a loose style that focuses on learning the way you want, and as long as you demonstrate your understanding at the end of the course, you get to choose your grade, no tests or homework.
It's immediately obvious that Jeff cares about his students - he spends so much time and energy into setting each individual student up for success as best he can. If you put in the work for this class, you will come out with the tools needed to succeed in any future classes. Take Jeff if you have the opportunity - it will change your life.
Jeff would be the perfect teacher to take for your Math 1C or Math 2B class if you want a lecture heavy class. Even though there are no required midterms or finals, you are being trusted by the teacher to consume deep learning through videos and lecture notes that are provided to you. He is a really caring teacher that often checks up on you.
Jeff puts the learning of his students first and truly wants to equip his students with the knowledge and tools they need not only to learn the content of whatever course they are taking, but to succeed in their careers. Caution: This course is highly focused on notetaking. You will be primarily evaluated on the quality and volume of your notes.
Although I was initially worried about how I'd perform in this class, Jeff Anderson has become one of the most inspiring, caring, and empowering teachers I know. Learning, both mathematical and meta-, is in the control of the students while peers and Jeff act as advisors. I'd recommend this class to anyone who is looking for freedom and deep work.
Jeff is really cool,he is so down-to-earth and respectful. This class isn't just a math class, it's also a life class. I learned a lot of math, but also a lot about myself. Take this class if you want to change your life and imrpove the way you learn. He just needs to give his students more time/opportunity to speak. He speaks 80-90% of the time.
Life changing professor. Changed my perspective on a lot of things in life. From my work ethic to the way I should be strategically dividing up my time to make the most of the 168 I have every week. Take him, and you won't regret it.
Jeff is a great professor who cares so much about his students. Being a first-timer in his class is very interesting, he has a non-traditional course structure where the entire class is self-paced and based on his amazing website. His class helped spark a new interest in programming for me. I am so happy I took him! :D
Jeff is one of the most caring professors I've come across at Foothill College. He is very inspiring and teaches skills that go beyond math. Note: you have to be on top of your work as he does not lecture in class. You also get to assign your grade if you finish all the work for the quarter. He offered good feedback and no midterms or finals.
Jeff is one of the best professors I have ever had. He cares deeply about his students and is passionate about his work. He motivates me to be better and to work hard towards my goals.
This class is designed for you to learn at your own pace. Jeff lets you work on your own and makes sure to help you along your learning process. He is very accessible and is always open to discussion. Jeff seems very motivated and genuine about helping his students succeed not just in his class but in life.
Jeff is incredibly passionate and open to his students. His class encourages you to put much more effort into learning the content than in many classes. However, his main goal is to teach you about the mindsets and work you'll be doing for the future. This is the highlight of his class and something you should consider spending time on here.
I suggest taking the time to look at his website appliedlinearalgebra .com. There you can see his syllabus and everything you are signing up for. There, you can make your best judgement of whether this class is for you. Everyone I talked to who has taken this class has changed their life in some way for the better. Now, why are YOU in college?
Great prof!
More hands on, less lecture. Not the traditional learning style that you would expect out of a math class. If you were looking for something more traditional, this may not be your class. However, if you want something new and more hands on, go take Jeff's class.
Before learning math you study Conquering College which changes your life and teaches you how to crush STEM, your transfer applications, and how to learn generally. The math is flipped classroom - you learn/work offline before coming to class. It's up to you to learn as much and as deeply as you like. You will be transformed (in a good way ;)
One of the most non-traditional professors that I have had, but the things he has to say are invaluable! He's such a caring and inspirational individual—he provides feedback/advice on how to succeed not just in class, but in college and in life. He deeply cares about his students. There is a lot of work in this course, but it is BEYOND worth it.
One of the most nontraditional classes that I have ever had, but what he has to say is truly invaluable. His passion is teaching students how to thrive in classes, college, and life—he provides advice/feedback at the beginning of each class. The course is heavy content-wise, but you will succeed if you put in the effort. Well worth it!
Kind and self-aware
This guy just repeating about his philosophy and "way to succeed" in EVERY SINGLE CLASS, and it is difficult for him to accept other people's opinions and establish a truly equal communication with him. He tried so hard to pretend he care about students, but he actually does not.
Currently taking Math 2B w/ Jeff, I love the fact that I could learn at my own pace in this class which helped me A LOT since I have to work 20+ hrs/week, all the lectures videos/notes and practice exams are online on his website, and I really appreciate that he was able to give me a spot in the class which I desperately needed, thank you Jeff!
Perfect teacher
He sparked something in me and I feel like the way I learn has actually started to change, I would say his class layout is very new to me which is why I gave it a 3, there isn't a canvas so everything is self-paced which was new to me but I actually liked it because I could follow my own flow and actually understand how each line and script work.:)
Amazing professor, taught me so much about school and personal value, I appreciate him and his work. I am so sad to finish this class, but wish his future students the best :)
Jeff is the most Caring teacher you will ever have. He does ask that you do real hard work, but the key is he asks you to do the work for yourself, not him. In this class you will learn how to be a life long learner. you will of course also learn MATLAB.
Jeff is an intense person. However, he cares about your success as a student and as an individual more than any teacher I've ever had. He doesn't do grades, and instead you assign your own. Don't expect an easy ride just because of this. This class is a lot of work, and he expects you to finish everything deeply and with care and detail by the end.
Comment on Jeff is really bipolar, you either love him like a dead ass or hate him in deep. Really depends on can you accept his style. Although all of his class was Grade yourself policy, the workload was extremely tough if complete all the work he assigned, however I would say that is necessary for mastering the class. One of Best Prof in fh.
Hard-working, passionate, and kinda crazy. His “conquering college” labs are designed for certain people in mind, so it might not fit you well (IMO i know how to learn!). But speak to him to figure things out, he is reasonable most of the times if he's not making jokes. What you get out is based on what you put in. I believe he's doing his best.
I like Jeff. This is not a 'traditional' class. If you want someone to funnel-feed information to you, like in normal courses, this is not the one for you. He has learning material, both written and spoken, but you learn it on your own. Do the work. He is reasonable and accessible. Yes, he does repeat the same things over and over. He cares deeply.
