Lecture is very jumbled and unclear. Explanations are marred by errors and retractions. Your best bet is to skip his class and spend the time reading the book. His tests are very specific, but all of the Q's are based upon what's written in the book. I have taken many high level science courses, and by far Mr. Baguely is the most frustrating.

he's ok, you can tell he's trying, but the only reason to come to class is to get some sample questions that show up on the tests
This professor is the worst one you could choose. He always has to correct what he says, because he gives the wrong info all the time. its pretty bad when your own students correct all the time. His tests are hard and not relevent. He's good looking but not worth listening to. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!
Terrible i didnt go to a single class after i had taken the first test i got better scores on the tests after by just reading the book
He is the worst teacher EVER!! His incompleted lecture notes are only posted 5 minutes before class, his tests are ridiculous, and there aren't any study guides. He also desn't know anything!! Ask a question and you just get a blank stare.
Not bad. Just need to go to class and read the chapters. He is always down to help out in his office hours and he'll make time for busy schedules.
Dr. Baugley may be a cute guy but it is NOT worth taking a class from him. Even if you go to every lecture, read the chapters, and study for hours and hours like I did you still wont be able to pass the tests. He makes them impossible!! If you want to work extremely hard for a C then I recommend him...I don't recommend it though.
His class is not easy but he is very helpful during his office hours (and he's a cutie). I really learned a lot and would recommend the class to anyone who wants to learn more than just the basics.
Marine biologist teaching human anatomy? Dr. Ort covered one lecture and showed why he is average at best in teaching material. Not a hard class but lectures were not fun. Snobbish and uncaring in my opinion. Was prepared with notes and lectures, but he is not a master of the material. Take Ort or Zimmerman if you have the chance.
This class was a joke. His lectures are long and the notes are lengthy, but it isn't a hard topic. He was very helpful. However, had to make study guides because there was a lot of material. The tests were not bad, but you had to know your stuff. Then everything seems really easy.
I took 190 and 191 from him in the same semester and Got 2 A's (even though they were 90 and 91%) These classes were very difficult, study your ass off and you'll get an A or B. He is extremely helpful if you go into his office. EVen though its a hard class, its worth knowing this stuff cuz you'll be studying it for the rest of your bio degree
Dr B. can seem erogant and at times cold, however if you go to class and stick to the study guides it is passable for sure. Pay attention in class he emphasizes test questions. It is NOT so bad.
Well, it's not Easy. Sometimes confusing, sometimes notes are in a strange order, BUT he definitely wants to make you Learn. Read test questions VERY meticulously, do the Chapter Q's for HW, and read your notes before the test; you should do all right. He doesn't like to budge on questionable test questions, but try anyway!
I've had him for Bio 190 and Bio 223 (A&P) and he is not a good teacher at all. He is the kind of teacher that teaches like he just read the material before class and took some notes. he stares at the floor when he speaks and rarely explains students questions clearly. Overall not a good prof if you want to learn. I scraped by with that B in A&P
Presents the material well. I think everyone complains about him because they expect an A but don't want to work for it. Then, they complain about it on here when they get a C. It's an upper division course people and it won't get any easier. Read the book, go to class, and STUDY, and you'll do just fine. He's a fair grader too.
Overall a good teacher and the class is somewhat difficult. You do need to study a lot if you want to get an A. His lectures can be absolutely horrible sometimes. Some of the lectures he seems completely unprepared and jumps around from slide to slide a lot. When he does this both he and his students can get extremely confused about the material.
He was horrible. I had to try so hard just to get a B. He is very scattered, and has no real idea what he's talking about. Just read the book, and if you do well in lab, it will bring your class grade up one letter. I would not take him unless it was the absolute last resort.
The course is very easy one compared to other upper division biology classes, but he make the exam so hard i guess 50% probably get D and F, so if you have the choise please do not take any course from him, he will just mess up your grade. just wait untill somebody else gives the course, i am telling you you will regrate it. very few ppl got A&B's
Material is not hard to understand however, his tests questions are so confusing to understand. It seems as his main interest is not to educate but to trick and confuse!
One of the easiest classes I've taken as a biology major. The key to getting an A in his class is attending his lectures, and taking good notes. Know his lectures inside-out and you'll definitely get an A. Easy class.
Everyone on here, is reaming Dr. Baguley, he actually is one of the most passionate professors at UNR, those other people are just not used to dealing with intellectual people first, secondly didn't do well, and 3rd if asked for help probably went in their not knowing the material before they went to ask for help, i.e. you cant wait for the answer
Dr. Baguley, in my opinion is one of the best teachers at UNR. The only reason people do not like him is because they are lazy and don't want to do any work. He is always willing to help students, and appreciates the students that actually want to learn and do well. I think that he is treated very unfairly by students. He knows his material and doe
He cannot teach to a basic level student starting out in biology. Frustrating if you are not inherent in understanding biology. MB doctorate teaching human physiology? UNR can get better, I hope.
Classes are hard and unforgiving. In lecture, he bounces between slides and the board, which can get annoying for meticulous note takers. He also likes to rely on scientific journal articles and other textbooks only accessible in the library. Tests are wicked hard and about 70% essay questions. No curve, no plus/minuses as well. Avoid if possible.
Great prof. I enjoy that he bounces back and forth between slides and the board it keeps it interesting. I also like the fact that he utilizes other sources and he generally hands copies of these out in class. He is available for help if needed, knows his material, and doesn't talk down to students. Pre-reqs cover basic knowledge needed
Dr. Baguley is a wonderful professor. I've never met a professor that is more willing to help than he is. If you put in the effort his class will be one of your best experiences in college! He presents class material in a clear and concise way, you just have to give him a chance. I would definitely recommend taking his classes!
Horrible Teacher
Awesome teacher! Always willing to go out of his way to help students and does his best to make you understand the material.
Baguley is an excellent teacher but he is not just an easy A. His lectures are not boring and while his tests are rigorous it is relatively easy to excel if you put the time and effort into the material. I recommend his classes!
I think Prof. Baguley is a wonderful professor. He is one of the few professors at this school who are interesting and actually seem to enjoy teaching! His classes are not easy by any means---you HAVE to study-but he never tests you on something he didnt mention in class. I have now taken two of his classes and can say I highy recommend him.
Not a bad guy. His classes demand time and effort, but he is a fair grader. I really can't blame him for coming off a bit like a jerk; he has to deal with whiney pre-health students on a daily basis. Read the book, read the book, read the book!
read the book and go to class. the only complaint i have is that the test questions were confusing. i think he should write his own tests instead of using a question bank.
Not very helpful, rushed through material.
Need to come to class, but also reading the assigned pages help pick time.
Very hard. First test class average was in the 70's so he decided to make the rest of the tests harder. That's retarded. His tests are confusing even if you study hard. This guys is way to into himself and needs to focus more on helping students learn.
Dr. Baguley could be a good instructor, but he is so full of himself it is distracting. He shows off for the female students, and it is sickening. He seems to have a lot knowledge about the subject, it is just too bad he doesnt spend enough time teaching it.
Good teacher. Very clear and is actually human (makes mistakes and jokes about them) unlike some other prof.
Dr. Baguley is a good professor. The course is well-organized, the notes are clear, and the exams are hard but fair. I retook this course from him, and I like how he and Hollander keep the material the same. It was very helpful and I really feel like I know the information now. Great job!
This class is not that hard as long as you actually go to class and study. I didn't so I got a C. I tried on the last test and practical and got an A on both of them. Just go to class, copy everything that comes out of his mouth, and study hard for a few nights before the test. For the labs, study the models. They really help. The class isn't bad.
This class was very difficult. I always studied for all of his exams and it never seemed to help- I could never get anything better than a C. He is an excellent teacher- very knowledgeable but his exams are outrageous.
Dr. Baguely doesn't come off as the nicest person, but he is definitely helpful when you need it. His lectures are clearly organized and understandable. This is not an easy class...People think that they can do the minimum and get an A. You have to read the book to do well on the tests. Overall, good prof and fair grading. No XC or curve though.
Terrible. Doesn't explain what is on the tests. He reads directly from his slides, and it seems like he learns the material in class as he's teaching it. He doesn't hand back quizzes or tests so you don't know what you do poorly or well in.
He is the worst teacher ever. And I'm not one of these students who doesn't go to class or read. I study my a** off and i still get C's on exams. many times a student will ask a question and he won't know the answer. "I'm drawing a blank here..." Also he just reads off the slides. TAKE HOLLANDER!! Even if you have to put it off a semester!!!
Hmmmmm. Dr. Baguley is ok, he thinks he is cool. I have had him for 316, marine and now this human impacts class. In 316 he tried to come across as a hard ass most of the time, and was pretty useless. In the marine classes he just wants to impress everyone. Pretty much wrote my paper for me for this class, which i guess i appreciate.
Take it with the girl. Wait for one semester and take it with the girl. Trust me. The tests and information are all the same, but it is so much easier to learn when the professor makes it interesting for you. He's not bad, but it's just him reading powerpoints and talking about how cool he is.
He is a very nice man, and very helpful, unfortunately his lectures are very confusing. Also he is kind of boring, but he is hot! so i guess that made me pay attention. ( he looks hotter with 5 clock shadow) anyway his exams are fair and he grade fair. If your lost just ask him he is helpful
Just because he is an attractive guy, it is no excuse to teach like crap. He is not even that hot, there are way hotter guys on campus all around. All Baguley cares about is trying to impress, especially girls, not teaching. Take Hollander, she is an attractive person and she can teach.
What a joke of a professor, students have been complaining about him since he got here. The fact that he's still here shows that our biology department is in a bad state.
Extremely conceited. If he did show up, he would tell a story to try to impress us and then leave. The d-team has been a great experience overall though.
Dr. Baguley knows his subject, but I found his lectures boring and unhelpful. His lectures are repetitive and I only went to class to get the words that he omitted from his powerpoints. I loved the subject of the class and got a good grade in the class, but I attribute that to the textbook and his powerpoints. Not recommended, but he's okay.
Okay so yes Dr.Baguley is bland, has a dry personality and never looks at you in the eyes. But if you want a straight forward professor then he's your guy. Read the recommended reading, really really study your lecture notes and there's no way you cant pass the class.
I had him for 223, now he's subbing for Hollander in 224 right now and THANK GOD. He is WAY better. Hollander is irritating and wastes a TON of time. Stop ripping Baguley. He's a good guy. Also, knows his stuff much better than Hollander.
Despite his strict grading policy, it's ridiculous that every few years or so, he would change some portion of the course that will impact your grade. For instance, a few years ago, he had extra credit for evaluations. Now, none. Origins and insertions are memorized, but were not before. Also, not allowed to take pics of cadavers, but can in summer
Students need to invest a lot of time in order to do well. Personally, I didn't and I wish I should've. To succeed in his class, you have to read the textbook, print out the slides, pay attention in class and write down any information he says. Also, I recommend that students should go to tutoring center for additional help.
Get old powerpoints with the fill-ins done and the class is a breeze. Lectures are pointless as he babbles about crap that is not on the test and the book is not worth the $$$. If you have to take Psy 403, Neuro or other UD bio electives take them first. KNOW the powerpoints and you will ace the tests... as for lab, study hard or it will kill you!
To do well in the class, you just need to be good at regurgitating. Also, don't buy the textbook at the library; you can get a better quality version at a better price on amazon or elsewhere. If this class isn't required for you to graduate, don't take it.
Dr. Bagueley's BIOL 223 is not a hard class for the good student, it just requires some good hours of studying the week before the exam. You must study his powerpoint notes, read the book, do the suggested homework, and repeat this process a few times to get an A.
Baguley is the man.
I don't know why people complain about Baguley for 223. He presents all of the information that is going to be on the tests. His stories can be irrelevant, but as long as you study the ppt slides and do the questions from the book you will be fine. Lab is really time consuming, but I had no problems with the lecture portion or Baguley himself.
He was extremely clear in what he wanted from you as a student. As long as you study his powerpoints and read the book you're set.
Tests come directly from the notes. If you can teach someone the notes, your golden. Overall tests were extremely fair, with the exception of possibly the final, which focused heavily on the last lecture and a 1/2 (which he covered the lecture before the exam). Lab is just strait memorization. The class is time consuming, but not impossible
I didnt like the structure of the class. I did fine in lab but many people i know got hurt by lab. The studying is not intensive, but it is alot for a 200 level class. Exams had few dumb/unexpected q's, but i scored A's on all of them with 1-2 days studying. The lab took more time to study for. Study powerpoints for test. Labs easy if you textbook.
Class is definitely very challenging. He's a nice guy and is available for help. Tests consist of information from the powerpoint but there's always a few stupid questions that throw you off.
Dr. Baguley makes the tests VERY hard. STUDY STUDY STUDY!! Get a good grade in lab, and on all the lab quizzes that will really help you. Go to open lab! Grade is all based on the lab and tests. Tests are VERY hard and super tricky... I studied a LOT and still had a very hard time. Try taking it with someone else if you can.
He is a good professor and a nice guy. His tests are right out of the ppt. make sure you do all the assigned questions that helps a lot! I would suggest studying everyday after class and do as good as you can on the two midterms, since the last two test are relatively harder.
WORST TEACHER EVER!!!If you want to continually fail a class then this is right up you alley. The tests are confusing and he is the most boring teacher to listen to. My advice... take it at tmcc.
Baguley is awesome. Tests are straight off the powerpoints. Lab is time consuming but just memorization. If you are actually struggling in his class then the medical field isn't for you. Period. Choose another career path if you are a nursing or premed student who can't get an A in this class.
I love the subject itself but I did not like his teaching style. He would go off on tangents and didn't seem eager to teach. The class is not necessarily hard, it's just a lot of memorization witch can be time consuming. His exams are worded in a tricky manner so just read the questions carefully, and you should be fine. I got a B
You really have to study and fully understand the material. He is very helpful. Lectures might not be 100% interesting but his stories make it funny. Good Professor and would take this course over again.
Professor Baguely clearly knows the material, but sometimes lacks clarity. Read your book! Last 2 tests are hard so study a lot for them.
He knows his stuff and is an awesome professor. He is always willing to help and just make sure you study hard! The material is dense and important so he expects you to know it well. He's a great teacher, sometimes the lectures were a little boring, but I loved the class and I wish I could have taken him for biol 224.
This is a tough class and takes a lot of invested time to get an A or B in. But Dr. Baguley is very helpful and knows what he's talking about. If you're a visual learner, you'll love him because he draws everything on the board. Some advice: don't just study what you need to know to pass the test; you really have to understand the material.
try not to take this class at UNR. It's more time consuming than difficult. Prof is arrogant, dry, and has a negative attitude. 31 people failed this class spring 2014 according to his email this week. Use power points w/book to study. Lectures did not help me at all and neither did the extra chapter questions he gives you to.
To get an A in this class: Study the lecture notes!! Know every small detail, they will be tested. Do the recommended problems. Read the book for clarification, for information stick to the notes. For the lab, set aside time to look at the anatomy models/cadavers outside of class time. Hard but rewarding class. Study hard!
This class really isn't as hard as everyone makes it out to be if you actually take the time to STUDY. Go over the lecture notes a few times before the tests and make sure you understand the concepts. I recommend doing the questions in the textbook. If you want a good grade, you have to understand everything, not just some or most concepts.
This is isn't as hard as people make it out to be. Lab is just repetition and for lecture just go over the lectures and fully understand them, do the questions and read the sections of book if you don't understand the slides. GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS WITH QUESTIONS! He's super helpful and will review anything
Like raters before me, this class isn't that extremely difficult. Make sure you go to EVERY SINGLE lecture. He says extra info that are not on the slides that definitely help you on the test! Do all book questions, read the book to understand concepts better, and know everything from the notes-NO skimming! as long as you do these you will be fine
This class is great if you genuinely like physiology. This class is tough because you need to memorize every small detail from his lectures. There are no study guides or homework, so you have to put work in if you want an A. He is clear as to what he expects and is willing to help clarify any questions, so ASK!
So hard. Don't be fooled, this class is extremely tough. You need to memorize the lecture slides.
Great Professor! The class is tough, but go to lecture and study the slides and you are good to go. The tests are challenging but if you study you will do fine! He explains the information very clear, and is very helpful.
This class is a lot of work and requires hours of studying for each test. Be prepared for this class and don't take it if you already have a lot on your plate. Tests are very tricky and cause you to really think about each concept. Definitely passable just takes a lot of extra work.
He is a very funny guy, made lectures fun, although i was falling asleep to most of them. i didn't study at all and got a C. If you have bad habit of not studying, expect a C. Very hard class because your whole grade involves around 4 hard tests that i didn't study for. lab is easy, i got an A in lab. but a d in lecture. avged out to a C.
The class is doable. Here is a tactic for studying: Give yourself a week before every test and gather up your lecture notes and rewrite all of them, one each day. After the notes are done, read a chapter each day and do the questions. The night before, reread the lecture notes and draw pictures. Hope this helps for anyone scared andor struggling.
Horrible teacher. He gives you loads of material and your grade is only based off of 4 tests that are extremely difficult. If you're a Biology major, AVOID this class, its no longer required for the degree. I got a D then retook it and got a B, you really have to study and understand the power points 100% to pass. Going to class was pretty useless.
This is the hardest class I have ever taken at the university. I have always been a good student and I'm getting a D in lecture. Lab is a lot easier if you're good at memorizing. Be prepared for tons of studying or you will probably not pass his class.
He thinks way to highly of himself and is without a doubt the worst biology professor I've ever had at UNR. The University should be ashamed it employs such a horrible professor. He gives you the material and leaves, no help, no caring personality, he knows that you know he hates being here, and he likes it.
His exams are extremely tough. I read the textbook, did all review questions, looked over class notes and still was only able to get C's on his exams. Don't take this class if you already have a full plate, this class will take time if you want to do well.
Dr. Baguley managed to make A&P boring, which is very unfortunate. Lectures were useless as long as you had the green words, and he would go off on unrelated tangents all the time. You can tell he really could care less about the success of his students. You have four tests that make up the grade and its bs. Don't take it if you don't need to.
Make sure you read the book. He advises most of his students to do so, it honestly helps. Lectures are heavy & sometimes random. Tests are pretty difficult, especially since only 4 of them make up your entire grade. DONT PROCRATINATE ON STUDYING, trust me lol. This class takes a lot of time & work, don't take if you have a heavy semester schedule
Worst professor I've had. Would never take a class with him again. No extra credit is given, no grading curves and no lowest test or anything dropped. No study guides for exams and no optional review sessions for exams. Go to his office hours- not helpful. I do not recommend him, if your interested in this subject take it with someone else.
This class was absolutely horrible. He gives no help to prepare for the exams whatsoever, and basically expects us to figure everything out on our own. He gives no structure for the exams, as well as no curve or grade bump. He is also rude to his students, making the class not a fun environment to learn in.
If it's on the slides, it can be on the test (down to every bullet/detail). He's a good lecturer, but his lectures have a lot of tiny details that you need to know. Also, spend time to know every chart (not the data, but the relationship between animal size and metabolic rate, for example).
4 quizzes (5 points each), 4 exams total (final is just a regular exam, not cumulative), PowerPoints are your study guides so you basically need to know everything on them, know what the graphs means (grasp the bigger pictures/trends such as rate of O2 consumption increasing with increasing temp, etc.). He's a cool dude, IDK why everyone complains.
Have to know every little thing on the powerpoints and your grade is made up of 4 tests and 4 quizzes, that's it.
Overall, this class is a joke. The lectures are dry, but the exams are not difficult. If you are able to read at a middle school level, then reading the book will be easy and taking the exams even easier. I was able to get As on all exams while studying the night before. One of the easiest pre-professional courses at this university.
He started holding in class reviews prior to exams & that seemed to really help our class since we had the highest exam avgs he's had in the past. Need to know pretty much everything on his slides since he does a lot of "Which of these is false" type of questions. Read the book for last 2 exams for clarification on muscle contractions/nerve communi
I hear so much about how people dislike Dr. Baguely, but I have to disagree. He is blunt and upfront but the only reason you would truly hate this is if your not putting in the work for the grade. You get the grade you put the work in for. That's it.
You really need to put in the work. He says at the beginning that the best way to study is to read the book, takes notes during lecture, then rewrite everything into a master notebook. It's time consuming. His lectures can be dry. 4 tests (and 4 online quizzes) make up your entire grade.
Dr. Baguley makes this class very fair and straightforward. The grade you receive will be directly correlated to how well you understand the material, which is how it should be for a pre-requisite for professional school. If you read the book and thoroughly understand what's on the slides, you will get an A.
Honestly, I personally would not take him as a teacher, however, he is one of the few anatomy teachers at UNR. Besides that, as long as you pay attention in class and use his powerpoints and the book, you should be able to pass with an A. However, you need to put your 110% effort in this class to get that A.
The tests are way too complicated. He was teaching a class that I really wanted to take, but I didn't take it because he was teaching and I knew even if I spent 4 hours studying every day I still would get a good grade.
Dr. Baguley is a great professor and his class is really simple and straightforward. Just show up to lecture, take notes, read the textbook, and do the suggested problems and you'll be fine. This class is hard only if you skip and don't pay attention, otherwise he gives you what you need to pass the tests. Study a lot for lab.
Dr. Baguley is an extremely challenging professor. Hardest class I have ever taken. Do not take with other hard classes. You have to study A LOT for this class. Rewrite the notes, only use the textbook if you need clarity, memorize every single word on his lectures and write down what he says, and it still may not be enough for the exams. Avoid him
memorize everything on his powerpoints but studying too much can make you overthink his questions and end up failing a few exams. I used the textbook to clarify some concepts but not everyone uses it. For lab it is crucial you spend hours at the library with the models to get an A. GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS, ASK QUESTIONS!!!!
This class requires a lot of work, which a lot of people don't seem to understand. If you go to lecture, take notes, read the textbook, study, do the suggested problems, and rewrite your notes you should be able to get an A. Dr. Baguley's tests are pretty fair, but you have to stay on top of your work because there is not much you are graded on.
Dr. Baguley knows what he's talking about. He can be a little callous if you talk to him outside of class, but he will make sure you leave with a better understanding. If you read the textbook, you'll get an A. It requires a lot of work, and you have to know that going into it. 95% of your grade are exams so read the textbook!
Prepare for this class to be one of the harder classes you take during college. The class is based on 4 exams & 4 quizzes, no HW or assignments so you must do well on the tests. His lecture notes are what you NEED to study for the exams. The exams are tricky, but this class is very doable if you put in the time and effort. He's pretty funny too!
Dr. Baguley's lectures can be pretty monotonous, however, most of what he discusses will appear on the exams. The textbook is helpful for clarification of certain topics. There is little margin for error; the class is based on four exams and four quizzes. He seems uninterested, but be sure to listen to what he has to say during the lectures.
Dr. Baguley is very smart. He is very clear on his grading. 4 exams(100pts/ea), 4 quizzes (10pts/ea), and 10pts extra credit for course eval. You don't have to show up to class, but you will miss a LOT of valuable info for exams. Show up to class, take thorough notes, draw it out, use the practice questions in the text and you will pass.
Probably the hardest class I have ever taken. Class is 96% on exams and 4% on quizzes. He is very monotone, and has a hard time introducing big picture ideas. I felt like I really had to teach myself. If you are taking this class, I STRONGLY RECCOMEND using the book, and doing the end of chapter questions.
Baguley has a reputation for being egotistical, frustrating, and takes pride in his class being difficult. The lecture is difficult, but not as much as lab. The lab manual put out by UNR is full of mistakes, and makes passing the four tests miserable and impossible. Don't take his class if you can avoid it. He's the only professor who teaches 223.
Professor Baguley is very intelligent and wants his students to learn as much as possible. His class is very hard and requires a lot of studying, but it is doable.
I don't get why this guy gets so much hate, yes his lectures can be dry and boring at times, however he is one of the best professors I have had at UNR so far. Anatomy is a tough class and if you can't pass then you don't deserve to be in the profession you want to be. Study his lectures and read the book for things you don't understand.
He's an ok professor. His lectures are kinda boring but he will tell some stories sometimes that make it a little better. HIs tests are tricky with lots of all of the above or none of the above type questions. The questions that he poses during lecture are going to be the type that show up on the test.
I always cross the street without looking in hopes I get run over by a car before going to his class
Anatomy is a difficult class in general, but Professor Baguley explains topics well. On the first day of class, he will tell you how to study. If you do what he says you will pass. It is a lot of work, but if you want to pass you have to be willing to put in the effort. I personally really enjoyed his lectures and his teaching method.
#1 advice: MEMORIZE HIS SLIDES. Forward, backwards, inside and out know his slides by heart. Those will be the key into getting an A in his class. Study everyday and rewrite your notes. Make sure you write down things he says because they are on the test. DO NOT READ THE BOOK. Unless you need more clarification read it but the slides are everything
Hard class. Only graded on 4 tests (90% of grade) and 8 online quizzes (10% of grade). Does not give +/- grades. The lecture material is quite hard, just memorizing his powerpoints is not enough, you need to understand the information. Not easy to get an A, but getting a B is reasonable. He is funny and makes a lot of jokes in class.
Know the slides... know the slides.... know the slides.... 4 tests 100 points ea. 8 quizzes 5 points ea. Thats your grading scale, don't take the lectures or slides lightly they will be on the test. Be prepared to answer questions with the phrasing which of these "is not" overall a tough class regardless whos teaching but he makes it entertaining.
Good class! His lectures are engaging, and hes available for extra help but he isnt afraid to fail you. Take good notes, study the lectures, dont skip lab, study for the lab quizzes!!, and ask for help. I found this class difficult b/c its more structural (bones, skin, nervous) whereas BIOL 224 is systems which was just easier to understand.
Go in knowing the class WILL require extra work. Take notes on powerpoint during class & MEMORIZE THE SLIDES. That's it. He curved some exams, but don't depend on it. 4 tests, 100 pts each; 8 quizzes, 5 pts each; 5pts extra credit for course eval's. Literally memorize the slides & you'll get an A. Book isn't necessary. Go to office hours for help!
It's a pretty hard class, but it's not too difficult to get an A in it if you work hard and study. There are only 4 tests and a few 5 points quizzes, and Baguley does curve the tests a bit sometimes (the 3rd and 4th ones, most of the time, because they are the hardest). Going to lecture and taking notes will really help you, but just study hard!
Professor Baguley is a very smart guy. His lectures have a lot of information, but he draws diagrams and visuals in class to help. His test questions have a lot of applied thinking rather than straight definitions. Study as much as you can, because if you study the night before there is too much to study and you won't be able to study it all.
This is by far the hardest class I have ever taken so far. Study every day. Make flashcards, rewrite notes, and go to lecture. I am definitely learning a lot from this class though, especially on new ways to study for tests. Do not take hard classes with this class, it will take up a good chunk of your time.
Though he's not the most captivating lecturer, Baguley is very clear of what's expected from students in this course. READ THE POWERPOINTS! He says this the first day of class and it's ESSENTIAL. Memorizing it will get you far, but the key is to UNDERSTAND the concepts. Practice repetition and you'll pass the class!
You have to go to class to pass this class! This was the hardest A I've had to earn because the way his exams ask questions were very detailed. His classes are 90% the test and 10% the quizzes. Write down everything he says in class because I've learned that it's what he tests you on.
4 Exams (final isn't cumulative) that are difficult but mostly based on the PowerPoints. He curves some tests. Lectures are boring, but he's kinda funny. Take notes on what he says if it is not in the powerpoint, because it will help on the test. Some words are left off the PPTs, & he only shows them in class. Lab just tests your memory.
He definitely knows what he is talking about but expects way too much of students. I work two jobs and took 17 credits and got a D. You have to put in a tremendous amount of time and I didn't have a lot of that. Study powerpoints. Very hard test questions. Kinda funny but also pretty rude so I guess it depends. Good class if u have the time
I enjoyed Dr. Baguley's class- it was difficult but I did well and studied hard. He isn't the most exciting lecturer but knows his stuff. Very test-heavy and not a lot of other ways to earn points.
Definitely not accessible out of class, had to meet with him after lecture if you need help. Maybe I just have bad luck and only went to his office hours when he decided not to send out emails or notifications that he wouldn't be there. It was really aggravating. If possible, take any other biology professor.
4 exams and 8 quizzes make up your entire grade for this class. Lecture is not necessary but useful, as he elaborated on tough material. If you want an A; memorize every detail on all the slides leading up to your exam, and get As on all the quizzes. Use book when confused. I pulled all nighters before each exam and ended with a 95% in the class.
Class was fine. Study everything that is on the slides because thats what the tests are composed of. First 2 tests were very expectable and anticipated. 3 test was very tricky and unfair in Im opinion, due to the fact there as things on the test that werent EVER discussed in lecture. Lots of which statement is true/false? questions on exams
This was the hardest A I've ever had to work for. I don't understand how people read his slides and are able to understand it. For me, reading the book was so much more useful because then you will be able to understand the slides. Memorize every detail on the slides also. Overall, he could explain things better and not go so fast, but he's alright
Dr. Baguley is a fair professor, but he definitely makes you work to pass the class. You need to show up to every lecture to get the notes. And he doesnt make it possible to message individual students within canvas so you cant ask anyone if you miss a day. His exams make you think hard but if you put in the work youll get a good grade.
Jeff is single-handedly one of the most over the top prof I have ever had. Not only was his class very difficult with little to no guidance as to what we were supposed to know for exams, but during the events of corona, his exam conditions caused students to be harmed more than helped. Other prof were kind while Jeff was only out to harm students.
Dr. Baguley has some bad reviews, but I genuinely really appreciated him as a professor. He's very knowledgeable on the subject, and will help if you reach out. The class is definitely VERY challenging, but his exams are reasonable based on what he provides in his slides. Know those slides up and down and you'll know what to expect on the exams!
This class has a lot of material and it can be overwhelming, but the slides that Dr. Baguley provides have all the info you need to do well on the exam. His lectures are very helpful and he says things that may help on the exams. Overall, keep up with the material throughout the unit and don't wait until right before the exam to study.
REPETITION, REPETITION! Dr. Baguley prepares you well for the exams. That being said, KNOW EVERYTHING ON THE SLIDES if you want an A. He has tested on stuff that was in tiny font in parentheses on a slide. Going over the slides once before exam won't cut it, review over and over, rewrite over and over to really understand the material.
During the pandemic, this professor was the only one who made his tests harder and was unwilling to help out students. Said he purposefully made the tests harder. First two tests were fine but last two were impossible. I am a 4.0 student and worst teacher and hardest class I have taken at UNR yet
Like others have said, you really have to study to get an A. If you really focus during lecture, you will get an A. ACTIVELY STUDY. Know the powerpoints EXTREMELY WELL. Know what every bullet point means and what every figure is depicting. Textbook was useful to supplement concepts you have a hard time understanding. Study a week or so in advance!
You have to study your ass off at least a week in advance. Rewrite everything at least three times and make sure to study the PPs several times over. The quarantine situation did make this class more difficult and you should know that your exams will be procotored. The exams are difficult, but not impossible. Loves which of the following type Qs
Most uncaring/uninterested/unclear professor I've ever taken. Gives you no idea what to study/expect on exams and couldn't care less if you're struggling as long as class average is "on par". Scores on practicals/exams dropped due to his formatting- he gave the minimum curve to up the average, didn't care that we weren't understanding the material.
Dr. Baguley is actually a pretty generous professor. I took him this summer and he was clear on what he expected from us. His class is very test heavy but doable. Most were pretty easy to answer (not sure if it's cause the class was online because I've heard horror stories when it's in person). He also curved our 3rd exam by 10 points.
Put your phone down and focus while in lecture. Use his note template and add in stuff where needed. Make sure you understand the physiological processes. You can just memorize everything, but actually understanding the concepts will take a lot less time and youll be able to answer the test questions based on logic, not pure memorization. No book.
Dr. Baguley is one of the hardest professors I have ever taken. I understand that anatomy is going to be hard but there is no reason for it to be this hard. His tests are hard to study for because he barely gives you anything to go off of besides his slides. He also makes you feel stupid for asking questions, he may not mean to do it but who knows
I get this class is supposed to be hard but this is just ridiculous. There is no reason for him to word his test questions the way he does other than to be confusing. Studied the slides, read the book, took the book and practice quizzes and would do fine. Get to his test and do terribly. Its vey discouraging. He also is unclear about what to study
This class only consists of exams and a few quizzes that do not help your grade at all. This professor is nothing but rude to all his students, especially those students who reach out for help. He is very inconsiderate during these hard times with online learning. The way he makes us test is does not help any of us. I do not recommend this prof.
This professor has no business making his class significantly harder in the midst of a global pandemic. This new normal is as difficult for students as professors, but this class made the transition that much harder. His exams are worded extremely confusing where any answer could be correct. Also his lecture slides barely relate to the exams.
He is probably one of the worst teachers that I have had. He makes his exams ridiculously hard for no reason. I can know every word on his slides and know how everything works and still end up failing an exam due to his horrible wording of questions. Your entire grade is made up of exams as well, so if you do poorly on one you are out of luck.
Alright so I see a lot of bad ratings about Dr. Baguley but I really enjoyed this course. Yes, it is a hard class, but it is anatomy and is supposed to be difficult. This is a course you have to learn to study for, and I recommend memorizing each process and knowing it inside out. Yes, it takes hard work, but its not the profs fault that its hard
Dr. Baguley was great this semester, but because we didn't have live lecture sections I got behind on the material. Even watching all of the lectures in one day, I got a 98% on the final. This class is not as hard as everyone makes it out to be as long as you actually watch the lectures. The "quizzes" are just mastering homework (8 assignments)
This class has been impossible for me to pass. I have two tutors for this class, as well as a study group and I still have yet to pass an exam. Dr. Baguley is rarely accessible outside of class and he is condescending to his students who are struggling and needing help. This semester is rough enough with COVID and he made it far worse.
A&P has been one of my favorite classes I've taken at UNR. It integrated all of my biology knowledge and made me apply it to human anatomy and physiology. The exams were easy and I really only memorized the slides a few days before the exam. It definitely helped to have a strong biology foundation coming into the class, so make sure you're ready!
I waited until after the final to write this. Hes simply not a good professor. Class exam averages are low and he takes pride in that, which makes me wonder why he doesnt make an effort to help us raise those averages. Also his quizzes give you a false sense of hope in the class because they are relatively easy and then you fail the exam.
I actually enjoyed lectures with Dr. Baguley. He was very straightforward with his expectations. I would recommend rewriting your notes and actively study. Your grade is based off only quizzes and exams so make sure to keep up with the material you learn.
This class is hard but doable. Baguley is a great professor, he is smart and very direct in what needs to be done. His exams are HARD but as long as you really understand topics and put in the effort you can succeed! He goes over the topics very well on his slides (what tests are based off) but it is your job to sit down and connect all the dots.
Dr. Baguley is straightforward with his expectations and is a chill dude. His exams are tough, but if you put in 10 mins of studying a day up until the exam, you should be fine. STUDY THE SLIDES! The book will do you no good. If you put in the work necessary, you'll be fine. Very interesting class. Easy B but a HARD A. Go to SI too, SUPER helpful!!
This is a hard class no doubt, but he is super good at making clear and elementary explanations of the hard topics. READ THE SLIDES all of his test questions comes from his powerpoint. I suggest looking over them every day even when you don't have class. He gave my class with extra credit a few times. grades comes only from tests and quizzes
Dr. Baguley is an amazing teacher, but you have to work for your grade. The effort you put in is going to be equal to the grade you get.
Dr. Baguely really isn't that bad. Anatomy is tough, but he teaches it well. He curves the tests generously, which helps. I didn't use the textbook, the lecture slides have all the information. This class just requires a lot of extra studying and attending the lecture is important!
This is the worst professor at UNR. In order to pass this class, you need to dedicate hours and hours of studying. He also gives out information all out of order and you need to put the pieces together in order to understand. I don' know why he teaches here when most of his students fail or change their major because of this class. It is the worst.
Dr. Baguley simply does not care about his students success, but is rather on an ego trip. He takes pride in making his exams ridiculously hard, and because there are only 4 of them, there is no other way to boost your grade other than to ace the exams. During office hours he shames you if you are not doing well, rather than helping.
He simply does not care for his students. Extremely condescending if you ask him for help. He prides himself on these bad reviews. Disappointed in UNR for knowing of his inadequacy and making no changes. Study the slides, none of his test questions are straightforward.
I am normally a straight A student. Baguley's class was upsettingly difficult for no reason. He gives you the slides to study, and that's it. The quizzes are deceivingly easy compared to his tests, which are laden with spelling errors and confusing wording. His curves, although generous, don't make up for the fact that the average raw score was 60%
He does not care about his students. He is never available for help. He makes students feel dumb. He is not a good teacher he reads straight off of his slides. He rarely responds to student emails. If you go to his office hours he makes you feel like you are worthless and like you should just quit. He makes your self-esteem very low.
The whole semester you are graded on 4 Exams and 1 or 2 quizzes for each unit. Homework isnt graded. Anatomy is hard so you will need to study and Baguley knows the information and teaches it well. Its just about how much work you put in outside of class. Forget the book, try to know everything on the slides. Meaning dont skip class, for notes.
This is after the second time I've taken this class. I see lots of people saying if you just study, you'll pass. Unfortunately, despite studying almost every day, I still couldn't find a way to pass the class. His study materials as severely lacking when compared to the information you need to pass the exams. If you passed, it was NOT due to him.
Best professor Ive ever had. A&P is hard and if youre giving him a low score because of that, then thats just ignorant because baguley is genuinely a phenomenal professor and an even better person. Test averages are very low but if you study every inch of the slides, you will get a 100 in the class. Easier said than done though.
I heard horror stories about this professor, but after the semester honestly I'm more inclined to believe those are just students that didn't put in the necessary time. It is VERY feasible to get an A between the freebie points from homework and then just performing on the exams. Just actually apply yourself and aim to understand the material.
Definitely have to work for an A but the lectures were very engaging and worth going to. Study a little bit everyday it beats cramming a bunch of information right before the exam.
There is no flexibility in this class. The prof acts disinterested in the subject and the students. This class is less about learning and more about how much of your life can you sacrifice to fail anyway.
I really dont understand how the class average was always so low. I studied the slides religiously, and read the textbook and used YouTube videos to help with the topics that I didnt completely comprehend. He could be a little friendlier, but his lectures are interesting, and hes funny. An A+ is easily attainable with steady studying.
Test Heavy. There is only a couple quizzes, then the rest of your grade is dependent on the tests. Tests are tough and not necessarily what was in lecture. There is no study guides, no homework, and no extra credit. Then Lab is also tough with about 100-200 new terms to memorize a week. He is also part of those who make the lab book as well.
You HAVE to be able to listen and write things down as he goes. If you don't have this skill, you will learn to real quick. His lectures aren't bad, they're interesting if you like this stuff. The lecture is slide memorization and understanding the processes! Lab is straight memorization and quizlet will be your bestfriend.
Tests are hard, and only passable if you memorize the slides like the back of your hand. It only gets more progressively in-depth, specific, and difficult as the class progresses. No curves, no extra credit. This class is ridiculous alongside the lab memorizing 200 terms per week + other classes. Doing well will be in SPITE of him, not bc of him.
Terrible professor I've ever had. He is the laziest professor. Thrives on failing students.Tests are very hard & memorize the slides. 4 tests & quizzes that won't help your grade if you do they all. In person lectures are terrible all over the place & very disorganized. Lecture notes needs to be deciphered on your own to be understandable.
The complexity and depth of the content isn't that difficult if you've taken some intro biology and chemistry courses and you like this kind of stuff. But, your grade is solely determined by exam/quiz scores and doing well means that you need to memorize nearly all lecture material, which can make this class challenging if you have other classes.
Reread and make a Quizlet out of the slides and put in the work! Understand concepts by looking at youtube and study hard ALONE; focus! Tests are difficult but not impossible, he really is the gateway if you're trying to get into nursing. This class will force you to relearn how to really study and you will need it for nursing school. You got it
Dr. Baguely is a great professor. He has a great way of making the difficult material fun and easy to understand. He is always relating what we are learning about to things that go on in our life so we understand. He has a good way of making a hard class fun. The tests are hard but if you follow his study tips you will do okay.
Negatives:No study guide, only extra credit was class evaluations set at 90% (that's crazy with 200), tests are terribly hard for the average person, tests basically determine your grade, and the lab is a 300-word memorization game. Positives: Curves test by a couple of points, lectures are okay '^' (sometimes fun), and always reminds you to study.
You have to put in the work to get a good grade. There are tons of materials that can help you succeed, but you have to study on your own. Dr. Baguley is very clear on how to succeed in the class; listen to him and take the class seriously. Tests are based off the slides, so use the slides to study. Show up to class
Regardless of professor or where you take it, Anatomy & Physiology is a hard class. Baguley's class is test heavy, but they're NOT CUMULATIVE. Exams are ALL MC but they do require you to understand the concepts really well. He also curves exams (if needed) for a 70% class average. Don't slack off and you'll do fine.
Took 6 week summer class with him. A&P is very difficult but he makes it fun. Be wary, class is graded almost entirely by exams, but the exam questions are all basic questions from the slides and basic application questions. As long as you understand the core concepts the class is a piece of cake. Lab is significantly more time consuming.
Anatomy is hard, just be prepared for it. Will mention football or thirsty thursday often. No study guide because literally everything that was covered is expected to know. Go to lecture, get the green words, pay attention, rewrite your notes. Repetition is the best way to study, lecture and lab. Mastering HWs and 4 exams, not cumulative, 50q mc.
He knows what he's talking about but comes off as arrogant outside of class. The textbook was more helpful than him at times. This class is graded primarily on four main exams with some homework assignments. His suggestion to rewrite the notes didn't work for me, so I recommend trying every study method to find one that works. Lab was way easier.
His style of teaching worked for me, BUT I could see how it doesn't for many others. His lectures are just him reading off the slides and adding in the missing words. He added online quizzes and study modules this semester and they are easy points to pad grades. Tests are basically the slides but with a little bit of context from the study modules.
He is a great guy and can be funny, but he just reads off the slides. This makes it difficult to understand the concepts. Anatomy is hard so prepare to study and work hard. MEMORIZE EVERY SLIDE. I recommend watching the YouTube videos he posts on canvas to understand concepts.
I struggled heavily with baguely. As someone who is now graduated and in a masters program, his physiology class does not prepare you for anything whatsoever. His exams I found to be a waste of time. Your grade in this class does not define you or your chances of getting into another school. Stay strong haha
This has been my hardest class by far. Having to memorize so much for the lab and having to study consistently has been a lot!!! For his exams, study every single slide because the little details matter. You have to really know how to apply the concepts and how the body functions. Only professor for 223 so good luck!
The lecture were boring and although you don't have to go, I would suggest that you do. Some of his tests are easier than others, but he does curve exams if there is a need to. The biggest downside of his class is that there really isn't any homework so your grade is pretty much determined by how well you do on exams.
There is a lot of information in the class, and the grade is almost entirely based on 4 tests. Make sure to take good notes in class and heavily review the slides before each test for success.
You have to literally write down every slide to receive an A, study the night of lecture, it helps a lot.
This class will truly test your time management skills and commitment, assuming that you're also taking biol 251 with this haha. Do not procrastinate!!! Review material the night of lecture and throughout the weeks leading up to an exam. Rewrite, recite it out loud, teach it to yourself or others, go to SI, BioHelp, and office hours. You got this.
This class was graded on 4 short essays and 4 tests (including the final). He is a good professor but his slides are confusing and have few words - you need to go to class to have a good grasp on what he's talking about. I would also recommend reading the textbook. Tests are not very hard but ambiguous questions and misspellings are frequent.
This class for being at a 200 level course should not be as material heavy. From taking 400 level courses that should be considerably harder it is pretty funny that this class took most of my time to prepare for exams and such. He also loves to brag about how students do not pass his class for some reason... Overall not a good course for being 200.
He's horrible. Average on exams is usually 50-60. Doesn't curve average even if it's a 54.
For an A, make quizlets & memorize EACH word on the slides. He's an amazing lecturer - very funny w/ perfect dry humor & comedic timing. Class is test heavy, but he curved 3 of the 4 exams to 70% (6-8 points for my class) which is huuuge. He only has low ratings bc people fail his class. Put in the work after every lecture and you won't fail
Talked way too slow for my ADHD, I practically fell asleep every class... Exam information is directly from slides but you have to memorize a lot. Did not enjoy the content or the professor but you could thug it out.
Dr. Baguley was great. Not sure why everyone complains when exam answers on either 1) on the slides verbatim or 2) based on one of the few drawings he does per unit. Lecture is easy, lab is hard. Be prepared for the opposite in Anatomy 2
be 100% ready to spend every hour studying. Very lecture heavy and if you miss lecture you miss the notes given for that day basically.
Honestly don't be as scared of this class as people tell you. Yes, anatomy 1 is a tough course, but if you put in the work and reach out to Dr. Baguley or a TA when you don't understand something, you will be just fine. Don't waste your time reading the textbook, the exam questions are based off the lecture slides. Memorize the slides.
Personally for me reading the textbook was what helped my understanding the most. Bio 223 is a very hard class and appropriate study time needs to be allotted, which he reminds you of frequently. Lectures are not mandatory but are helpful, sometimes he will draw out ideas and give hints on what to focus on for the exam.
hes so boring and clearly full of himself. put in the work and youll get an A, but my goodness he was so painfully boring and egotistical
I got an A so im not even complaining because im mad at the grade i got. He just sucks as a person, very full of himself and his lectures are so painfully boring. the ego is sky high and i could not handle his pretentiousness so i stopped going to class and just studied the slides instead. If you put in the work, you will get an A, simple as that.
This class was a difficult class but professor Baguley was a good professor. He is tuff but I do feel prepared for my future classes. I enjoyed his lectures. He curves the test, give a 5 point extra credit for course evaluation, and there is assignments not just exams but exams are what determines most of your grade. His test are tricky though.
Dr. Baguley honestly makes anatomy so easy. I ended the class with a 99%. His exams are very fair and only relate to things on the slides and diagrams he draws. Textbook is absolutely useless. I would recommend just absorbing the slides days (maybe like 3) before the exam. I did this and got 100%'s on the exams. Anatomy isn't as bad as it seems.
He only gives you credit for exams and a little homework credit. Homework is worth 1 point each no matter how long or short it is and overall worth about 10% of your grade. His averages on exams are barely passing or not passing. Attendance not mandatory but he takes words out of his slides so if you don't then you don't know what the slides say.
Just don't bother taking the course. Not a good professor and doesn't teach the class just reads off the slides.
