Jeff Berman was the best Professor I had at Albany. I graduated in 2000, and still use the term "semicolons are sexy!" He isnpired me to become an English teacher!

easily the best classes of my undergradute career. the man is dedicated to teaching and his students. a refreshing experience. rating of "easiness" is a 5; that doesn't mean you can coast, but the workload is clear and very reasonable for a 300 level class.

Hands down (to use a colloquialism), the best teacher at SUNY. Fun and dedicated to teaching and his students. I have had very few professors who even come close to a tenth as good as Berman.

Having Berman is basically like having Woody Allen as a teacher.

Jeff is a master of his material, and he is clear and concise in the presentation of that material. Sadly, this cannot be said of every professor at the university. My only suggestion for improvement would be for Jeff to clarify the exact criteria by which assignments are graded.

Jewish atheist, pretty easy, talks alot in this class - very open to what we think about things, not a bad grader, overall not a teacher to worry to worry about at all - pretty cool.

Jeff was by FAR the best professor/teacher I have ever encountered. He is brilliant, hilarious and the class FLIES, not to mention he lets you out early. He really is the best- go for it.

Fantastic professor, he wants his students to get the most out of his class, and he gets alot out of it too. He has a way of making everything interesting, and his teaching style is wonderful. I will take every course with him that I get a chance to, it was one of my best experiences in University.

Jeff is awesome. He knows how to teach and keep his students interested. He is fun, articulate, brilliant, and fair. He does let his classes out early, but the time is made up by the fact that there is no break so no time is lost. In fact it allows the class to flow from start to finish without the interruption of a break.Good thinking on his part.

Where else can you talk about anal sex, simultaneous orgams, snapping ****s, male-on-male love, and incestful sex and still call it a college course! lol take a class with him. By far a brilliant, funny, laid-back, professor who knows how to teach emphatically and has a bountiful knowledge of literature.

Fitzgerald and Hemingway- still taking it, but Professor Berman is an amazing person. He's smart, hardworking and very empathetic. I hope I can work with him one more time before graduate school is over. He's just plain awesome.

After I read all the great comments about Jeff I took his class with great expectations and was not disappointed. Without a doubt the best professor at ualbany. He cares alot about his students and is very understanding and funny. If you have dealt with serious issues in your life take this course. Recently named Distinguished Teaching Professor!

Best class I have ever taken! He is an amazing teacher! He is smart, funny, and so nice. The assignments are far from the typical boring english ones. You'll learn so much while having a good time. You'd be crazy not to take this class!!!

This man is amazing. He dares you to confront him on any number of his claims; say he is wrong, and argue your point. You do not see instructors like that, at any level. Then again, most intructors are not as down to Earth as Jeff is.

This was the best class I have ever taken at UA. It was the only time I was actually disappointed if I had to miss class. He is brilliant. Do not pass up the chance to take his class, you will not be disappointed!

Amazing! I'm in Grad School at a different school, and having a crappy professor really makes you appreciate the good ones out there. Professor Berman is a warm and brilliant man. You might hysterically cry one day, and laugh like crazy the next...either way its an experience not worth passing up! Take his class before you leave UA :)

Jeff is fantastic. He is so helpful, appreciates the importance of grammar, is understanding, funny..just a great man and professor. He will invoke your strongest emotions- watch out! He is a fair grader and if you have good grammar, you will probably get an A in his class. It is a lot of reading, but Jeff makes it interesting and worthwhile.

Professor Berman should be teaching at an Ivy league university. We are fortunate that as public university students we have such a brilliant professor on campus. great teaching strategies, and is the only professor worth the tuition at this university.

I knew nothing about Jeff prior to taking his grad Hemingway & Fitzgerald class. All around great professor, I sincerely enjoyed his class (even the oral presentation, which is not my strong suit). Loves his students and my writing owes a lot to him. Asked him to second read on my thesis and he was fantastic!

Great man! One of the easiest, but intense, classes you will ever take. Likes to talk about death, but the whole class is writing 40 pages of personal papers. Teaches you a lot and you basically tell him what grade you think you deserve. He's a great teacher, definitely recommend.

Great Professor, alot of work involved in the expository writing class I took. had to write 40 pages all semester, but he's helpful and will improve your writing (very important!) a lot. Books he required was only a $25 one on amazon written by him Great guy, and I would recommend him to many people.

I can't say enough good things about Jeff--this was the best class I've ever taken during my time in college. He managed to create an environment that allowed his students to truly embrace the self-disclosed aspect of writing and run with it. It was truly an inspiring experience and you'd be stupid not to try to get into one of his classes.

WOW. Best professor. Not only will your writing greatly improve, but you will also learn a lot about yourself through this class. He does not grade on content--only on your style and grammar. Very understanding with late assignments and absences. This is the only class I look forward to attending each week.

Professor Berman is a wonderful professor. He is funny and a wonderful person. He's great. But I would be iffy about taking another class with him. Not because the class is hard or anything but because i am literally bored out of my mind. he doesnt really teach, we just go over essays and some grammar and that is it. I am so bored in his class.

My writing improved dramatically, and I didn't even realize it until the end of the semester. You'd be missing an opportunity of a lifetime by not taking a course of his. I'm taking him right now Spring 2017! Honestly, a very caring and smart professor. He will revise your paper before you submit it! So, that way, you can get a better grade! In fact, he is so helpful, that I couldn't make it to his office hours, and he let me slide my paper under his office so he could revise it! He really cares. Amazing prof.

Jeff is a literal angel. You do have to actually write quite a lot in his classes, but your writing will improve immensely. I had a lot of unexpected circumstances occur and he was more than understanding and accommodating.

Jeff is such a great guy. Took writing about love and loss with him, easy A but a LOT of writing. Incidentally, I lost many people in my life over the semester due to death or otherwise, and it made it hard for me to sit through class. He was more than accommodating and actually cared. He also makes you a better writer, take him to improve!!

Great professor, 8 papers, five are 5pgs, three are 2pgs. a lot of reading, 8 books. over all he is a good teacher. no tests,quiz. be ready for his lectures. he is caring and always available in office hours. take him if your not afraid of writing. he will improve your writing abilities. you will leave a better writer.

Jeff is such a lovely guy I do not have enough nice things to say about him. He's the kind of professor that makes you love being a student. He poses great questions you'll be thinking about even after class. Taking his class my last semester as a senior and I'm so happy I have such a great professor to end off with.

Jeff is the best professor at this school. This class is about painful topics: death, etc. He is so kind and funny. Weekly one page diaries and assignments. He'll have some students read theirs aloud. Auto A grade when you write forty pages. Most importantly he is sweet and kind and makes you feel heard and valued. Can't put a price on that.

I've taken him twice, and I got good grades twice. Just do the work and try your best, and he will work with you and help you become a better (or rather "risky") writer.

Jeff is the BEST. He's such a sweet and knowledgeable guy and makes lectures really engaging. A lot of the topics are really heavy, but he keeps things light (but still meaningful). His comments were helpful and I saw a huge improvement in my writing by the end of the semester. Definitely take a class with him if you have the opportunity.

Jeff is one of the only professor's at the University who I can tell genuinely loves to teach. I leave his class everyday feeling inspired. His assignments are not incredibly difficult and he gives great feedback on grammar and sentence structure. Loved his class!

Not only is he a great guy, but the class is super interesting and fun to participate in. The writing skills he teaches are also super helpful and not just basic knowledge. Might be the best class I've taken in all of college.

Took this class on a whim and it was the best choice I made all year. Jeff is inspirational and one of the best teachers I've ever had. Everyone leaves this class a better writer and a better human. If you are willing to write 40ish pages over the course of the semester then this class is 1000% worth it.

Great professor that I employ anybody to take no matter the class. He cares about his students and does everything in his power to make a comfortable, welcoming, understanding, meaningful, helpful, talkative, and interesting space. The man loves his job and I appreciate him for it.
