Dr. Bulger never stayed on topic, he was always going off on things that had nothing to do with the class, and then test us on the things we SHOULD have been learning! What a waste!
Is this class Philosophy 2050 or Atheism 2050? Dr. Bulger has no ethics, and thus has no business teaching a class about ethics!
Does not stay on track well. Hard to plan for tests.
UVSC needs more teachers like Dr. Bulger. Thank God for diversity. He is very knowledgeable. His tests are in a good format and the material is given well in advance to study.
Funny guy, not too difficult.
With class participation this class is fun and material is learned.
FUN CLASS TO LOOK AHEAD FOR
He is a different kind of teacher. Very.......different.
I also had him for PHIL 400-R. He is an amazing teacher that is often times misunderstood. He will take the opinion that he knows a majority of the class will not have in order to get them thinking and spark a debate. Be openminded and you will learn.
Great Class, good teacher. Make sure you go to class or you will be lost. He lets you turn in all late work for full credit, so that's cool. There isn't much writting in the class, just a couple of long tests, not too bad.
Actually, I really liked him at the beginning of class, but it bugged me when he spent literally half of our days in class talking about Michael Moore. Gets off subject, doesn't let you know when tests are, but easy.
Does not like it when you disagree with him. He makes you feel like your ignorant, and he is all knowing.
He gets off tract alot, but that is what is so great about it. Tests are hard to plan for, but he tells you exactly what to expect and then curves. I enjoyed his class espically when he was playing the advocate.
He is good, I really enjoy his class, very easy and we don't have to have the book. I really recomend this teacher.
I loved this class. He talks a lot about current events and gets you interested. You have to write 10 1-page reaction papers, which are a breeze, and 2-3 tests, which he reviews before. No textbook needed-but about 25 pages to print. I loved his enthusiasm and ability to get students involved.

The most fun class I have ever taken. Very easy, and very interesting.
This is the most worthless class at UVSC. I hated the class immensly and the teacher tells you things you don't care about or need to know. The only plus is the curve of tests.
The teacher was extremely rude and demeaning. I offered an opinion which he disagreed with and he insulted me the rest of the day. I apologized afterwards, since I meant no offence, and he took the occasion to further insult me, saying I deserved his disrespect. He was so offensive I didn't go back.
Look...if you want to get out of writing huge papers and studying numerous philosophers, than Bulger is for you. Easy class and he's easy to follow as long as you show up to classes. I could have done without the "Political Compass" crap, but I think he is fair and quite respectful to other peoples opinions. Easy "A"!
This might have been a worthwhile class if the instructor were not so inflamatory. If you are a member of the predominant religion or support the current administration in any way, then prepare to be abused all semester with loud pointed remarks against these things. he is a dedicated Michael Moore-ite and can quote the movie almost verbatum.
Easy class, good teacher, no textbook. Period. If you don't mind jabs at the LDS faith, and the current political leaders, then this is an easy class.
This is by far the easiest philosophy teacher at UVSC. If you could care less about learning philosophy and you just want to get that pre rec out of the way this is your man. He is basically a show up to class everyday and get an A teacher. Ignore his remarks about the LDS religion and George Bush and take your easy A.

Buldger is a little "out there" most of the time but he is really passionate about the subject. Show up, take a few tests, and get your "A". I believe he is by far one of the best philosophy teachers at UVSC.
Entertaining. Loves it when you disagree with him and can back up your point. Spends less time on the history of Ethics and more on current issues and situations.

Excellent Prof! This is the teacher to take E&V from if you can get into his class. Very passionate teacher.
Great teacher, very understanding, he really cares for the subject. He makes Philosophy easy to understand. Easy teacher:) If you take philosophy you have to take Bulgar. I'm serious!
If you dont care about philosophers, take from him, study for the midterm and final, go to class everyonce and awhile, and you will be fine.
No syllubus, need I say more.
Bulger is one of the best instructors I've had at UVSC. He makes ethics and values interesting and easy to understand. Attend lecture and study the notes and you'll do fine on the tests.
I wanted to kill myself everytime I had to sit through his lectures! I hated this class! I would NOT reccommend this professor to anyone!! He lectures the WHOLE time and doesn't get the class involved. We reviewed for the test and then he said to put away our paper and pens b/c we couldn't take notes. HELLO~~how are we suppose to prepare? duh
Worst teacher I have experienced so far! I was looking forward to this class, what a disappointment! He was inconsiderate and rude. Don't disagree with him, you'll regret it!
Great teacher! If you go to class, participate, and are open minded you will do well. He plays the devils advocate the entire time, but does it to just present the opposing view. I learned alot and had a good time in class. I would definitely recommend him to anyone.
If you aren't afraid to speak up and make rational comments and arguments, it becomes an interesting class. I imagine many of these people were in classes that didn't participate much which would mean he would lecture the whole time. It's true that he may attack some of your values, but there are always ways to defend them rationally.
The entire class we talked about everything but the exams, then he threw those on us from a stupid website. Then one week before the final we were suppose to read a book. This teacher is a fool. Take the class from someone reasonable that doesn't let some mormon student in the class rant about his pathetic life for the whole semester.
I really disliked his class. It was boring and I didn't know what he was talking about half the time. You could get this guy going off on anything. He likes to be extreme in arguments to the point where he offends people. He doesn't tell you what is actually on the tests until the week of, but if you study the class isn't hard. Easy assignments.
This was the most boring class I have ever taken. All he did was talk about a stupid website and moving the dots around. WHO CARES! Everyone gets to have a mind of our own NOT HIS. Most of the time you didn't know what he was talking about or care. You could get this guy going off on anything. He doesn't tell you what is on the tests until the week
The class was entirely lecture-based except for the tests, which came from multiple sources, some of which were not introduced until a day or two before the test. Overall, the class seemed unorganized and lecture points were often repeated and treated as new material. He meant well, but the class just didn't do much for me.
This class is mostly lectures, with a follow up paper on opinions. Not a lot of work required. This teacher is great if you are willing to have an open mind, and can realize that he intends to make a point, not to disillusion. He understands the material well and makes it interesting; is easy to get lost though if not paying atttention.
This teacher is the worst. Take the class from someone that you may learn something from, it won't be him. You might as well be on planet Pluto with this fool, cause that's where he is. Waste of money and time.
Jeff is a genius, he definately knows what he is talking about. Brings up the best points ever that really get you thinking. The class is easy, not too much required. Keep your mind open, and everything will be excellent.
Among inept professors whose classes I've taken, Bulger is foremost in his inability to present material in a meaningful manner. He fails almost entirely to touch even remotely on the subjects of the class, opting instead to waste everyone's time in frivolous discussion of elementary political concepts. His aim is to inflame, not educate.
This class, if you dare call it that, was an utter waste of time and money. Rather than teach the standard Aristotilian Ethics, we studied Dr. Bulger's Principlism. He is not interested in students' ideas and doesn't think twice about singling out and belittling individuals in front of the class. The WORST teacher I've ever taken!
Good teacher. Cares about the students and gives the materials needed to get a good grade. Little on the odd side, but what phil isn't now days??
Bulger lied all semester about how attendance would affect grading. Every test was written so amiss as to include significant typos, warranting on more than one occasion that several questions be dropped in the name of justice. He publically accused students of cheating, suggesting instead that they were lazy and irresponsible when proved innocent.
One of the poorer teachers I've had during my college career. Raised some interesting points, but doesn't seem to value any opinion but his own. I enjoy differences of opinion, but not when the person giving those opinions is not tolerant of another's. He could be so much better. Sad.
We spent the majority of the semester talking about everything except the exams. Then, out of nowhere, he throws this book at us and then tests us on it. It wasn't relevant to anything we were doing. He should have just given us that book on the first day, tested us on it, and called it good. Liked the class at first, highly disappointed overall.
Not one of the best teachers I have had. But if you work hard an A is possible. Tests count for most of your grade and some questions are repeated through out all the tests.
Great teacher. Is very left-wing and i am not, but it always made for great discussion. Attendance is not required, but he tests purely on lecture until toward the mid-end of the term, then he'll start testing a little out of the book. You'll have to do 10 easy one-page analysis' papers about current events. You get what you put in, so if you go
You know, I enjoyed Bulger as a teacher. He's a really nice guy. Very liberal. class can be really boring toward the end and attendance is mandatory. But really, he is a good teacher and is great to work with you.
Luckily I had the construction of the library to watch because his lectures could probably cure insomnia. The lectures have nothing to do with the tests, or other assigments. The test come from the study guide word for word, there is no reason to go to class besides the fact that he counts it against you.
What we have here is someone who rocks the world of most Mormons by asking them to use the subject at hand which is philsohy. He knows many subjects. Very smart. He is someone to look up to here in Utah.
Must attend class. No syllabus, so assignments are randomly assigned. Quizzes are easy. Tests are 120+ questions. The lectures are the worst part and don't pertain to anything needed on the tests. Enjoys putting students down, does not promote discussion, just lectures. Dont take class in the morning.. it's easier to fall asleep or skip.
this was one of the most useful general classes I will have to take. it opened my mind to so much, and helped me learn to think on a completely new level. if you're stupid enough to go in with a closed mind, then the class will be pointless, but if not, it will be awesome.
Dr. Bulger comes off as eccentric, and he is, along with smart and respectful. Some mistake him for rude, not because what he said was offensive but because some people could not understand what he was actually saying. Politically motivated, a student will like the class if he studies the material and regularly participates in discussion.
Dr. Bulgar is very respectful and has a great understanding of what he is teaching. If you go to class and participate you will have no problem getting a good grade. You will also learn a great deal that will affect your decisions for the rest of your life. Great Teacher! Great Class!
Bulger was the best prof I ever had! Some students said that he attacked religion too much but I think my religious beliefs were strengthened in that class. I also have a political view since taking that class. I feel that I received the best education from Prof Bulger and I wish he taught more classes.
He is a really good teacher and gets you to expand your relm of thinking.
This teacher kills me, he's so freaking boaring and just lectures all day everyday. We wrote 2 little papers and had a mid-term and final. I wouldnt reccomend him just because he's so boaring and you have to go to class. Good luck with him! You only need one book too.
He argues against core LDS religious beliefs, saying that he is really helping us.I'm a tolerant person, but his lectures offended me.There wasn't a day that went by that he mentioned something about religion.Excuse me, but attacking someone's beliefs is NOT ethical. His tests are extremely hard, his lectures boring.Attendance is required every day.
The guy is eccentric for sure. He uses LDS religion as example in his lectures - so what? I'm LDS and the man's job is to get us to open our minds. Irritating comments and inflammatory statements are just a few of the legit tools he used in class. He did what I never expected - he gave a new (and bigger) box. Hope for more classes from him.
Bulger is the man. He knows his stuff and really is a smart man. Just because your political or religious views might be different than his, doesn't mean you should not take the class from him. I am one of the most conservative Mormons you will meet and I loved learning from Bulger. He really makes you think outside the box. Truly great professor.
I really enjoyed his class. it was tuff sometimes just because you have to think in way that you most the time dont. I learned alot about the goverment and how to be aware of my surroundings. We studies things as the food industry and autonomy.
The assignments are all really easy. One midterm and one final. He doesn't teach to your typical Ethics and Values curriculum. However, I would not take another class from him again. A lot of the discussions went over everyone's heads except for a few students. He's very liberal and I just didn't care for a lot of what he had to say.
It was an ok class. I wouldn't recommend him as a teacher, he didn't know how to focus on one subject and stay on topic.
His class is joke. There is no point in going. I haven't learned anything the whole semester.
If you are a liberal or socialist you will love him. He spends the class knocking conservative ideas and capitalism. Although this was really annoying he is a really easy A. Just show up and listen. Not much studying required.
He is an okay teacher. Goes on a lot of tangants.
Little to no use of any academic texts and the syllabus basically didn't exist which was frustrating for me and others who like organization. He also spent a lot of time talking about his personal political beliefs and not enough about the course subject. I was disappointed with this course and would not recommend him to others.
Doesn't cover normal ethics and values topics, mostly talked about corn and cows. I slept through most classes and still do good in the class
Class was pretty much about Corn and Cows!! Did not follow a thing he was talking about. Benificence, Justice, did not make anysense to me at all.
At first I hated him. He knows how to push buttons and get discussions going. As the semester went on I grew to appreciate him and his passion for the subject. We talked about food production and factory farms all semester. No homework. Tests are worded a weird but he goes over them in class prior to the test.
Take his class if you want an easy A, but don't take it if you actually want to learn about ethics and values. Most of the time half the class is asleep during his lectures, and I had a hard time following anything he talked about. This class was an easy grade, but I wouldn't recommend this teacher.
I'm talking about this website. I like the prof, but so what? You should actively seek out profs you like and, more importantly, profs you don't. Further, opinions and learning styles vary. I could be lying to you right now and there is no accountability. Think for yourself, 1000 people can easily be wrong. This site is ridiculous.
Very knowledgeable about his subjects - makes the class think. Class is very interesting.
Truthfully, I could not stand the class. I realize he probably meant to offend people to get discussion going, but discussion never happened. I was offended every time I went. Good teacher, or really disrespectful? Duh. So grateful I had Institute right after him; then I could erase the last class. Easy A.
Extremely interesting with numerous perspectives provided on each subject.
One of the worst professors I've ever had. Extremely biased, sloppy, and unprofessional.
Enjoyed the subject material which heavy in food, politics, and priciplism
This teacher has a vast amount of knoledge on this subject. He teaches concepts applicable for our times.
He jumps around to so many different subjects that it is confusing to keep all the information straight! He is a good teacher its just kinda hard to keep it all together so when the 2 exams come around you don't really have a clue what he will be testing on. Although, he does go through the test vaguely before you take it.
Good teacher, make sure you stay on top of the studying he tells you to do otherwise the tests will be a bit difficult. However, If you do review it's not a bad class
This has been one of the most useless classes I've ever taken. Bulger is probably one of the easiest professors I've ever had but also the most aggravating. He likes to attack things he knows nothing about (like the LDS church) and he responds to arguments with demeaning comments. I would never recommend this teacher to anyone.
I couldn't stand him at first because he seemed so anti republican and slightly bashed on the LDS and their control. After a while though I started enjoying his lectures. His class is easy, he enjoys comments, and there is very little homework. Many extra credit opportunities as well. I also learned things that i never would have thought of.
If you can follow what he is trying to say and like to make fun of popular beliefs then you may like this teacher.
This is a very good class, and Jeff is a great teacher. Read Read Read! Go to class! Totally worth it!
GIVES LOTS OF EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITIES. CLASS WAS INTERESTING AND VERY INSIGHTFUL ON CERTAIN TOPICS.
He was a pretty good teacher, i'm glad for what he taught me.
This was an ok course. Bulger has some crazy ideash, but it really wasn't that bad. He never attacked religion in my class, but I heard that he did in others. Class was super easy, lots of extra credit. In my class he focused on food ethics, he says that he will talk about another subject next semester. I wouldn't take another class from him.
Bulger is a very smart guy and very knowledgeable about well everything. His class is pretty easy and you learn a lot. Some discussions are boring and you don't really need to pay attention. Tests are pretty hard. Rarely any homework. Interesting class though. Try him!
He is an amazing teacher. He keeps class interesting and I can tell he loves what he teaches. He knows what he is talking about and is really helpful when it comes to reviewing before the test. He is my favorite professor so far at UVU. I would take another class from him in a heartbeat.
This teacher was okay but not the greatest. Class was pretty boring most days. I probably wouldn't take another class from him. However, the class was pretty easy. No really hard assignments were given.
Pretty intense and demanding. A little hard to follow but if you think WAY outside the box, you'll be okay. Changed my life with the many different topics we covered.I hope to have another class with him.
Very intelligent, and knows his stuff. Read a novel (Omnivores Dilemma) with no text book. Had a few 1 page papers... Interesting class, I would advise students to take him.
difficult to follow
I would advise against taking this class from Bulger. He goes off on lots of tangents and doesn't cover what the course description says. It's all about the food industry, and he doesn't like opinions that conflict with his. Easy class, though.
He is an awesome professor. He touches on subjects that are very present in todays day and age. We spent much of the semester talking about the food industry and politics. His class was very informative and useful.
Very good professor, he doesn't use a textbook but rather a $16 book. He is very controvesial, if you like arguments you would love him as a teacher. He is very informative and goes at the pace of the students.
He was a good teacher
Great professor. Takes time to hear all comments and makes sure every students understands concepts before moving on. Interesting points of discussion.
i was excited at first but then he started going in the political direction and thats not what i wanted. i wanted to learn about the ethics of life, love, hate. things like that. So if you're wanting to learn about the political compass and the different political view points then this is your class.
I found the class informative. He gives you documentation to help with understanding his concepts. He also Explains things clearly. I liked his passion for teaching displayed in his class.
Class was fairly easy, very easy if you know about politics and the food industry.
The class was interesting and we looked at the effects of ethics and values in the food industry.
Great teaching skills, enjoyed the course very much.
This Professor stepped out of the box the entire semester. Instead of using a dry, old boring textbook, he used a best-selling novel; "The Omnivore's Delima". He also kept the concepts relative to the current issues of the day. I dreaded the concept of taking this class & put it off to the very end. Due to his teaching style, I'm glad I did.
He is a knowledgeable and interesting teacher and truly knows how to apply ethics to the examples used during class.
Discuss things other than food.
He's a nice guy, just as a teacher he isn't very interesting. All we talked about was beef and how it should be raised and killed. Pretty boring. It was an easy class.
Gives a lot of extra credit. We were supposed to write 10 papers throughout the semester and ended up only writing 3. This semester we talked a lot about the food industry and how it was ethical or not to kill animals for our meat, and how the big corporations are not telling us certain things. I thought it was very helpful, and enjoyed it.
Likes to teach things on the fly. Never follows a syllabus, which allows for open discussion and allows the principles learned in the class to be applied to just about any topic. Mostly discussed food industry and whether or not the things they did were ethical. Really enjoyed the class as Dr. Bulger is a dynamic teacher.
Dr. Bulger is a really nice guy. He is very understanding and flexible. This allows students to participate alot in class discussions and helps them understand material. This class was mostly about food ethics. I dont think students should be required to take PHI 2050, but it was interesting.
I really enjoyed the class. It was really easy but I still learned a lot. He does a good job of making you think and question. I would definitely recommend him or take his class again.
Very nice and very helpful.
He's fairly easy, just show up and pay attention. He reviews exactly what you need to know for exams.
Do not take a class from Jeff unless you are interested in learning. It seems that he likes to disparage students, but this is not the case. He likes to push your thinking until you reach the next question. If you make a statement, be prepared to back it up and discuss it and understand it. Do not take unless you are a serious student.
Easy A, offers a lot of extra credit
He is extremely knowledgeable about philosophy. He makes you think outside of your normal thought process. I have had him twice. You have to work hard to get a good grade but you learn a lot.
Professor Bulger is a very good teacher. He may make comments sometimes that may provoke people to dislike him. But, I believe this is done unintentionally, so it never bothered me. He goes over the material in the exam before every test, so if you pay attention in class, you will pass the test. He's a good professor. Very interesting class.
Both the easiest and most useless class I've ever taken. If you want an easy A, take Bulger, but realize you will pay for that A because Bulger is the most AGGRAVATING professor I've ever had.
Prof. Bulger was great. Sign up asap because his class gets full quickly and with good reason! One of the easiest classes ever.
Professor Bulger is a great guy! He knows that he can make mistake and won't on quizzes and exams and won't count that against you. He will work with you on anything. He gets back to really quick via email and wants you to get a good grade! Easy A and a great guy! Really funny
good professor. very helpful on a personal level.if you read the material before class you will have something to talk about. uses canvas. canvas is awesome
Professor Bulger is a very entertaining guy. It's a hybrid course (half face-to-face and half online) so we only had class once a week and you aren't graded for anything in class. I liked going anyway because it's always interesting and mind-opening. I ended with a 99%. Easy A, no textbook!
Was very clear and helpful. I really enjoyed being able to take the quizzes on line on my own time. The time in class also helped me understand the text we had to read so that was also really healpful
His hybrid class has been designed to help his students have success; the material is well organized and written in a way that is easy to understand. You can take the quizzes as many times as you like, which is an excellent way to study for the exams. He is passionate what he teaches but he is aware it is a required class.
I loved this class! Dr. Bulger is a really intelligent philosopher. Even though attendance isn't required, it helps you understand the reading and the discussions are really interesting. I always left class with a new view of things or with new thoughts to consider. I also loved that it was a hybrid course. Take from Dr. Bulger!!
Dr. Bulger is passionate about what he is teaching and keeps the class interesting. He is very easy to work with and seems to be genuinely interested in the well-being of his students and their success in the course. The course has a reasonable amount of reading and if you actually do the readings the tests are not too difficult.
I don?t know what class room the following people were in, but this class was the biggest waste of time ever! I got a B+ and barley put any effort into the class. That might be just what you?re looking for? But I prefer to get some kind of life-long information from the classes I take. The teacher is not 100% to blame he seems nice enough but the m
I loved his class. Dr Bulger was very passionate about philosophy, he is very honest, open minded. i received an A for his class, but i had put a lot of time and effort in it. If you go over all the quizzes over and over again, you read the materials you are good for his exam. What i had found useful was to go over each quiz before the tests.
This class was his hybrid class that is mostly done online. I liked the freedom to read the material instead of being in class. He was SUPER flexible with Canvas because it was new and took recommendations on future classes well. Take the online quizzes over and over till you can answer the questions easily and the final will be easy. No Textbook!
If you are socialist/communist, take this class. Otherwise look for someone else
I loved Dr. Bulger's class! He was an amazing teacher and he made it easy to understand. It was a very hard subject to understand because he used his lingo in his book but he made it fun and enjoyable. I loved that half the class was online and half was in class. Very good teacher.
Dr. Bulger was an interesting teacher but I worked my butt of in that class and only got a B+. I would not recommend him, he expects way to much out of a General Ed class.
Dr. Bulger is amazing. He is intelligent and very good at explaining things. The class is very well organized. I feel your grade will directly reflect your effort in this class.
This class was as great as a philosophy class could have been! I personally am not into the whole deep-thinking, confusing vocabulary world of philosophy but Bulger made it almost impossible not to get an A. As long as you take the practic exams, you'll get A's on the exams. Very nice teacher; willing to work with you & not pushy with his ideas.
Easiest class ever. All online. If you want an educational class that is so easy you could sleep through it, take this class.
Lame class, easy teacher. Take it online to avoid the boring class lectures. Take the quizzes and the tests will be simple. It's a real easy class and Dr. Bulger does his best to help students and get the necessary information to everyone.
This class was one of my most favorite that I have taken. There are definitely pros and cons to online courses but this one was structured so nicely. There's no way you could have gotten a bad grade unless you tried to fail. At times it was kinda tedious, but ultimately I learned a lot and Dr. Bulger is an awesome guy! Definitely recommended.
Not a hard class at all. There is a lot of homework but it's easy. Books are hard to understand but that's philosophy for you. I recommend this class.
Dr. Bulger is an amazing professor. He is brilliant, and kind. He really wants to make the class the best he can for the students. The online class is VERY well organized, and easy to follow. Do your work, take the practice exams (I wish every class had practice exams), and you will do great! I highly recommend this teacher.
Dr. Bulged was amazing. I was required to take this class for uvu. I dropped it twice and the third time I took it with dr bugler. He was absolutely amazing. He explained everything and was always available if you had any questions. I learned so much and ethics and values actually made sense. I wouldn't take this class from anyone else.
Dr Bulger is the best! If you have to take this class take it from him! I did the online class, it had a lot of work but any online class will. I wasn't to excited to take this class but the way he goes through the concepts really gets you thinking and the class begins to be fun. I almost dropped it 1st week but held out and now I'm glad I kept it.
At first I thought the class was hard, but once I grasped the information it became a lot easier. Dr. Bulger did a great job with this class.
Great class and great teacher. Willing to work with his students and actually shows a genuine care for them. Took online class and would definitely recommend this teacher.
Dr.Bulger was a great instructor. He made this class very interesting. I took it online and he made the class fun. Awesome instructor and the tests were not that bad.
I took this as an online class. There is a lot of reading and some reaction papers required - It was confusing at first, but as I learned the "lingo" it got much more interesting. This was a fascinating class that was taught with a highly intelligent and very helpful and conscientious professor. TAKE THE CLASS! YOU'LL LOVE IT!
Dr. Bulger was helpful and quick to respond to emails. His class required only a few hours each week and they way it was structured made it easy to stay caught up (sometimes online classes can be bad at that).
He was great; clear, and helpful
pretty easy class
Professor Bulger was stellar. I took an online class and most other professors I've had online have very little communication with their students. Prof. Bulger emailed at least once a week and was truly concerned about his students. Great professor. I highly recommend.
ENJOYED
AWESOME teacher! One of the few professors that realizes your grade effects you more than it effects them & their pride so he is actually willing to help you out even if you just forgot a deadline. Great setup, easy to follow and low stress. Take from him!
Very easy to communicate with and will work with you, even if you made a flat-out stupid mistake. Really liked him and his online set up. Most of the assignments are pass-fail. The tests are an accumulation of the quizzes so if you did them and do the practice tests, you'll ace all the tests. Just a really helpful, nice teacher!
Not bad. could use a few improvements helping students understand material. uses large filler words that could be said simpler
Dr. Bulger did a fantastic job making morals, values and Philosophy interesting. I actually got my family involved in some of the questions asked and thought from the course. My 7yr. old is still making comments about things that we had discussed over the course of this class!
Dr Bulger is very excited about philosophy. The canvas app is great and he did a great job on preparing the canvas site to be userfriendly.
He is a very organized, helpful teacher. The class content is intense but I did not have any interest in philosophy and I learned a lot, and it was not hard. I would highly recommend this teacher!!
This was an online class. This class has a lot of information that can be hard to understand (the subject, not the teacher). The teacher was great and always has a positive attitude. I would definitely recommend Dr. Bulger!
Dr. Bulger was a GREAT professor! I took this class online and it was very organized and well put together. He is SO helpful and wants his students to do well. He also makes philosophy interesting yet easy to understand. Put in the effort and you'll get an A!
I thought this class was so intimidating when I read the syllabus and after reading the first chapter. Dr. Bulger makes the class very easy if you give it a chance and do the homework each week. I just signed up for his next class.
Bulger is definitely qualified to teach philosophy. I took his online course. Everything was open book which made getting an A rather easy. However, the material is EXTREMELY difficult to understand. If you want to understand his texts, you will spend many hours defining philosophy terms and looking up background information.
He wrote his own textbook. The class requires far too much work that is ungraded. It feels like a second language, because of the lack of explanation.
Honestly this class was the best philosophy class I've taken. Intro to philosophy didn't even compare. The way Dr. Bugler set up his online course was almost perfect! If want a class that is fairly easy yet challenges your mind. I would choose this one! I loved it and it was probably one of my favorite classes at UVU. I would for sure recommend it!
I had a great experience in Professor Bulger's class. The online class was complete, fast and simple. It was an easy A for me, but I also learned somethings that were great. I would recommend Bulger's online class.
Teacher was great, there is quite a bit of work, but if you do the reading there is no reason not to get an A. the teacher responds to every question and gives great insights. He also makes the class text much more affordable than the school could.I would definitely recommend this instructor for others who are open minded and do not mind learning.
GREAT online class!! Yes, there is quite a bit of work each week, but the class is set up in a way that allows you to complete things in advance if you want and it's really not hard at all to get an A. I finished this final 3 weeks in advance and took that time to focus on my other class finals. I learned a lot and it fit easily into my schedule.
WOW....AMAZING TEACHER!!! THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING!!!!
Worth taking, learn critical thinking skills & core concepts of philosophy. There is a lot of work but you get full credit just for completing it. The only way not to get an A is to not do all the work. Dr. Bulger is fair & quick to respond to emails even during off hours. Odd that he requires his own books, seems like a conflict of interest.
I took this class online and at first it seemed like this class was going to be overwhelming because of how many things were due each week. But not all of the due dates were mandatory, some of them were there to just help you stay organized and caught up. After you get a hang of what is required for this class it's really quite easy.
Very good class, very good teacher. I would 100% recommend his online class.
Wonderful teacher, wonderful class.
Excellent teacher. Not a hard class. Don't be mortified when you open the calendar the first day. Due dates are not mandatory and most assignments take a small amount of time. That said, don't get behind either... Overall awesome class and getting an A is not too difficult. Highly recommended.
A great way to meet your E&V credit for UVU. The reading is ridiculously hard but he sets up the classwork to help you absorb the info. He is extremely helpful. I had health issues and he worked with me through my delays. It's a lot of work, so don't get behind, but if you do the work, it's nearly impossible not to get an A.
Gained an appreciation for philosophy. Was easy, as long as you stay up to date. Great teacher, good content.
Online text book, he lets you go ahead in the class. The tests are exactly like the review. Easy class!
Dr. Bulger was the best teacher I have had yet at UVU. The course and material were laid out in such a way that there was no guesswork. The assignments did not feel like busywork but instead a way to think deeper about what we had just read in the textbook, and discuss it. There was no trickery on the tests, they exactly covered the sections.
Dr. Bulger's course was unlike I expected, in a good way! His course is straight forward, & builds each week off principles from the prior week. There are no tricks or gimmicks; if you read & understand the material, you'll do well. There are practice quizzes & exams. Tests can only be opened once, but you have ample preparation time/tools prior.
Very structured by weekly assignments/quizzes/readings etc. Lots of reading complex concepts. Quizes can be taken as many times as you want so its easy to get 100%. Test reviews are identical to the actual tests. Not hard, just a lot of busy work.
Very good and helpful teacher. If you do not understand the text, it may be difficult but if you do your readings and take your quizzes. you will do great on your exams.
Easy class, reading is all done from an e-book. I don't like reading like that, but I got an A. You have to take the quiz until you get 90% or better, so you should learn something.
Just di the work and your done. I got all the work done in 3 weeks. Don't let all the reading over whelm you
Good Course
Took the class online.. was a breeze. Great way to go for Ethics and Values. I strongly recommend taking Professor Bulger's online course.
I did not know much about the class before but after taking it i really enjoyed it. The instructor sent out good positive emails and the ease of the class made it better than many i have taken.
I took this class online, really enjoyed it! Quite a bit of reading but overall a very easy A. This Professor know his stuff and lays out everything very simply, so as long as you stay up with the schedule, you'll be fine.
I had read reviews thinking this class would be what I wanted to take as an elective, but I was wrong. Yes, it is interesting. But you have so much busy work to accomplish. Multiple quizzes each chapter, reaction papers, discussions, chapter tests. It is not an easy course.
Outstanding!!! I did Ethics and Values online with Dr. Bulger and really enjoyed it. There is a lot of busy work but as long as you do it, you'll get an A. The busy work isn't hard, just use your brain and it's an easy and interesting class. Of all the online classes I've taken this was by far the most organized.
Interesting and thought-provoking class. Be prepared for a LOT of reading. The language was tough to get used to, it's definitely higher level than most other classes. Stick to it and you'll do fine, concepts start to gel and make sense the further you progress. Just don't give up! Course was very well organized and easy to follow. "Enjoy!"
Dr. Bulger loves this subject and is obviously passionate about it. I enjoy this content, but the language is difficult to understand (not the teacher's fault). His online section requires you to pass 5 quizzes per module, which totals to be about 70 quizzes. For the final, there was a 780 question practice exam. Final was only 100 though.
I enjoy this class, the material was confusing for mi but the requirements to pass the curse were very easy. I had to take it for my generals.
Very easy to get an A. All of practice quizzes, quizzes, and tests use the same questions. The e-book is poorly written, but all of the information is there.
Take this class, Bulger is awesome! He is so organized, if you just work thru his online plan, you WILL GET AN "A!" He has everything in order -- you cannot fail! Im an Aviation Major, not a "philosophy" type person -- you will be thrilled you took this course if you have to have a PHIL course. I actually learned a LOT!!
There is a lot of work in this course, multiple quizzes and questions that have to be completed before being able to move on with the actual graded assignment for the week. The quizzes were exactly like what the test was on, which made studying much easier. With the pace being up to you, it is perfect for a stay at home mom. Just do the work!
This course was a treat. I wasn't interested in the subject before I took this class. After all the reading and all the quizzes, I started to comprehend better the meaning of it all and I was happy to read on and learn more.
fairly easy class if you follow the module guidelines
It is all about the text. Wish it came in a more user friendly format (Kindle or iPad). Basic class: Read text + Take quizzes = Pass tests and class.
Dr. Bulger is very clear in the class requirements and how to go about the course. Basicly do the work and pass the class (probably with an A). Dr. Bulger is great about answering e-mails within hours which is very helpful, especially with an on-line class.
great class & teacher. I really enjoyed the subject and his teaching methods.
Class looks to be very straight forward and easy to follow. Instructions are clear and understandable. Teacher appears to be flexible and ready to help at any time.
This guy is awesome! He sets the class up so you can do as much as you want and all the assignments can be taken as many times as you want until you get at least a 90%. The answers are provided on all quizzes which make up the exam questions so its an easy A. I am more than half way done with the class only 2 weeks into the semester! Just awesome!
This class is very easy if you just do the work, and keep up online. Dr. Bulger is very fast in responding to emails, and very supportive of your success. Totally worth it to do online if you need the ethics and values credit.
Class was amazing. Honestly I had no idea what philosophy even really was before I took this course. Dr. Bulger is amazing and very thorough. He really wants his students to get it and I appreciate that.
Good instructor. Challenging but straight forward class. Material presented in an easy to understand way. Complete the work, get an A.
Great professor plenty of feedback and made the online course enjoyable.
Great class and I learned a lot. Do the work and you will receive a good grade but you must do the work.
This course is great online if you just keep up. The deadlines are guidelines, so it is easy to get behind. Professor Bulger is really fast with responding to emails as well as explaining it it detail if you are confused! TAKE THIS CLASS YOU WON'T REGRET IT!
This class was very easy if you keep up with the weekly readings and assignments. He has you write reaction papers each week, and as long as they are 350 words you get the credit. He gives you practice quizzes and practice tests making it easy to ace the quizzes and tests.
This class has been one of my favourite so far. Dr. Bulger is an excellent professor who cares for his students. In the class you will have to do a few quizzes and a few tests. Also you have to write about seven papers which are just 350 words. If you do the work on this class you will get a A in the class.
The course is set up and easy to follow at your own pace. I didn't like that we couldn't talk to our fellow classmates, the reading was difficult to grasp at times. If you do the work & take notes it's easy. Dr Bulger is willing to talk, so that was nice.
This is not an easy course, there is a lot of reading often difficult to understand subject matter but don't let that scare you away! This class gets better the further into it you get and its by far one of the more interesting classes I have taken. Some advice is dont get behind, i did and it was hard to catch up. But even so it was a great class!
Great professor! I really enjoyed his class.
The reading material is often hard to understand, but not impossible. If you do take this class don't fall behind. I did and it took forever for me to catch up. I pulled out of the class with a fairly good grade but I had to work for it. Don't let that scare you though. It's worth taking online - just keep up on it!
The class was challenging, Philosophy is hard! If you go your whole life learning and understanding things one way, in order to learn and understand differently requires retraining your mind. Do what Dr. Bulger suggests in the orientation section and apply it to all of the course work and get an "A"in the class like I did! Read slow & re-read twice
super easy +++++AAAAA
This class wasn't really the easiest, but it was definitely do-able. Professor Bulger is flexible, lets you take the class at your own pace, and is SO understanding! He makes the class so worth it. There are a lot of readings and quizzes, but they really aren't difficult at all.
This class was great. It was very organized and easy to follow. You can take the class at your own pace. As long as you pay attention while reading and taking quizzes, you can ace this class. I would highly recommend this class to everyone.
Great Teacher A+
This was the best online class I have ever taken. Everything was very well organized. I feel like I learned a lot, and ended up enjoying philosophy way more than I thought I would. I definitely recommend this teacher.
Well, I won't say this class is easy, I found it hard to understand a lot of the time. Just don't get behind on your reading and you'll be fine. If you get behind, it's sooo hard to catch up. The teacher is awesome and very understanding, and prompt to reply to emails, which I was impressed with. I would definitely recommend this class.
I have to say that I found the reading hard to get through and wasn't too inspired to try and get through it because you can get through the class by memorizing the answers to the questions. I don't feel like I actually learned very much. But if you want a class that is fairly easy to get a good grade in, take this one.
Follow along a read the material and the class will be easy for you. Very helpful teacher and quick to respond to questions/concerns. Teacher has a strong willingness to work with students.
Listen, if you want an A, by all means, take this course. However, don't expect it to be easy. There is a ridiculous amount of busy work and the reading material is atrocious. But there are ways around all that. Dr. Bulger is well organized and knowledgable on the subject, but point blank, I hated this course.
Excellent coarse; Bulger's structure makes difficult and verbose reading understandable; quizes are structured so you will learn the material--which is well worth understanding.
Well-organized. There are a lot of quizzes and homeworks. But, if you do your part then you will be fine. Recommend this teacher!
Although I had my doubts about this subject going into it and some of the early readings were difficult,I found it to be a rather interesting course and gave me a new perspective on many things.
Dr. Bulger was very helpful with any questions I had regarding the course. He also made the course interesting and had the writing assignments that really added value to the coursework. Through a given opportunity to just write and reflect about the weeks materials I feel I learned a lot more.
Seriously one of the easiest classes I have ever taken. Learned a lot, but also finished early in the semester as well. You have to buy the books that he wrote to start the semester, but after that just read, take quizzes, write 3 paragraph response papers and take some exams. Take this class, easy A.
I quite liked the setup of the class. You don't have to do anything by the specific deadlines, I did the entire course the last month of the semester. It is a true online course. All the tests including the final are done online from home. Fairly easy, requires reading but he prepares you well with practice tests for each test. Would recommend
This class very easy. My final grade was a 99.8%. I would recommend taking it to anyone.
you should take with him
Easy class for an A. There is definitely a lot of busy work, but it's mindless. I did the entire class in a matter of weeks, and still got an A. You don't learn a dang thing however, so if you're actually interested in the course, take it from someone else.
Dr. Bulger taught great content of his classes, his online assignments were very clear and precise. I learned a lot about ethics and philosophy, and I feel like I didn't even try that hard to get an A. When you can actually learn and don't have to bust your ass to do it, it means the professor did many things right.
Good instructor, get an A.
Philosophy 2050 would be a more difficult subject if not for Dr. Bulger's interpretation of famous philosophers. This makes the class easy. The only thing about the online class that is difficult is the amount of time spent on quizzes. There are a lot of quizzes that will take up your time.
You can take the quizzes as many times as you want and as long as you take the quizzes you will pass the test. The reflection papers that you write almost every week are the worst part, but it's still a pretty easy class.
he is the best . take with him you will not regret ...
Took this class online, was able to finish maybe a month into the semester. It was easy enough to do, but also easy to space out right through it. The entire class consists of readings (optional for if you find them interesting) several quizzes per section, then about nine tests. Quizzes were unlimited attempts, tests were just quizzes combined.
Loved this class! Super easy and as long as you stay caught up then it goes by so fast.
This is an easy class. Stay caught up or be like me and do a ton of work in a few weeks. Whoever said you don't learn anything is an idiot. They didn't learn because they didn't care. If you actually read the book there is a ton of great insight and information. The reaction papers are a meager 350 words and you get leeway on topic. Good class!
I really enjoyed this class. I took it online during the summer and the material was engaging and interesting. The attempts to complete quizzes where unlimited and the tests came straight from the quizzes. You have to write 350 word essays pretty much about anything pertaining to the chapter. Dr. Bulger helped whenever needed as well.
I really have a deeper perspective on life now than when I first started earlier this Summer. Also I did not realize that their was so much influence from Mill, Kant, Rawls etc, in virtually every facet of life; i.e. law, medicine, journalism, politics, even sports and media.
Professor Bulger has designed this class so well. It is very organized and you always know what assignments are due for the week. It is a lot of reading and at times the reading is a bit hard to get through but it gets better as you get further into the material. For the first week or so I hated the class, but it was actually great!
An absolutely amazing experience to have learned from Professor Bulger. Kind, very fair and truly has an interest not only in you doing well, but in you maximizing the experience. The course work is demanding, but nothing worth having ever comes easy. I give Dr. Bulger the highest marks available as he is completely awesome!!!
Instructor is AMAZING and VERY dedicated. It's hard to come across such dedicated instructors - highly recommended. However, this class is totally pointless. You will love taking this course if you're someone who is interested in the humanities, but you won't enjoy it if you're someone who actually cares about what's going on in today's day in age.
Dr. Bulger is committed to ensuring success. He posts multiple quizzes and practice tests. If you go through them, there is no reason to not get an A in the class. Writing assignments are 350 words, less than a page on what you learned for the week. They aren't due every week. Excellent instructor, I would take from him again.
