He was so awesome!! Such a great teacher & so enthusiastic! Such an influence for me as an economics student! His notes are clear & his tests are generally fair! He was a great teacher! I had this class mwf until 5 and i would always go to my friday class because he was great! If you get a chance to take his class I would!!! (also extra credit yay)
He's great, but his test questions will make you think so be ready.
He read power points that were taken exactly from the book. No point in ever going to class. HW's and quizzes on my econ lab are harder than his actual tests. Several of his test questions were poorly written and confusing. He's nice and the class isn't hard, but not very insightful.
One of the worst classes I've taken. Lectures are very dry and just him reading powerpoint slides of the book. Tests are extremely tough and cover a lot of info. Would not recommend.
Attendance is optional but he passes around a sign up sheet. Only tests were a midterm and a final which were pretty average in difficulty. Pretty easygoing professor. Homework due online before every lecture, on material taught AFTER the homework assignment was due (to get you to read).
Prof Buser really is a great guy. His lectures can get a little tedious , but he cares about his students. The material can be tough, but if you go to office hours, he is always willing to help. Overall I think he is a great professor, he is really enthusiastic about economics and it shows during lecture.
DONOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU ARE A SENIOR SOOO MUCH HOMEWORK AND QUIZZES!!!
Ugh. Jeffrey Buser is like a corny uncle. He reads straight from power point slides and fills the rest in with awful jokes. I didn't learn a thing in lectures, but recitation was really helpful. Buy the econ lab without the etext because the book doesn't help. Don't buy print copies of anything because online stuff it required.
Jeffrey was the best lecturer I've had. He's easy to listen to and explains things well. He's pretty goofy and really tries to get some participation out of the 700+ crowd he's lecturing to. He doesn't always get through the full topic then moves on at the next lecture, so make sure to do the DSMs before class in order to really get the material.
Lecture is large for 1 professor to take care of, but he is good not the best but worth the class
Worst class I have ever taken. His lectures are very large and all he does is read from powerpoint slides and you are not able to access any of his materials outside of class. His tests are extremely difficult to an unnecessary level. He does not respond to any email I have ever sent him. 10/10 would not recommend this class.
He provided us with some videos and related tests online as homework. But I think it is not too much, and I can self-study well. We never use textbook on class, but some of my friends read book to review. I think his lecturer is interesting and he is really nice to answer my questions. He also provided us with extra credits.
I'm not sure why people are giving this guy such a low rating. Professor Buser is an amazing lecturer despite having 700+ kids and he makes the class interactive. Make sure you read the textbook it'll help out alot but even then his lectures make all of the material super accessible.
Prof. Buser is a super fun guy. He is interested in what he is talking about. Although the material can be boring, I found his way of lecturing to be a good approach. He makes lots of little jokes and is always energetic. Material is mostly through videos, and grading is straightforward. Extra credit also offered.
He's a great lecturer who really makes the material interesting and clear. My friend had a different professor for microeconomics and didn't learn half the material I did. He really gets you interested in the subject.
The material is hard. Offers a decent amount of extra credit in order to compensate for the difficulty of his test. Before every lecture he makes you do a homework assignment to make sure that you read the material. He just covers material from the book. It's up to you either read the book or go to class extra credit for going to class
Dr Buser is a fun and great lecturer. However, if you think his economics classes are going to be a walk in the park, you have another thing coming. His exams are extremely hard, even when you've read the material. In order to pass this class with better than a C, you're going to have to do lots of reading and know your stuff!
Professor Buser is a very good guy. He cares a lot about his students and is always available for questions and will help you. Exams are kind of tricky but he offers a good amount of extra credit. My biggest advice is READ THE BOOK! His notes from lecture are alright but the questions on exams are based from the book. Recitation is helpful as well!
A genuinely knowledgeable lecturer who is well-versed in the material and provides interesting classes. The course work is not terribly difficult and there are many extra credit opportunities. An overall positive experience.
His lectures are pretty boring and not very helpful. The exams were significantly easier than the homework and quizzes. The homework and quizzes were difficult but they are on MyEconLab and you just keep redoing them until you get them right. Take advantage of the many extra credit opportunities.
Lectures are extremely dry and seem to be never ending. The two midterms and final are difficult, even after studying and never missing class. Also a few hours of online homework each week. I would recommend taking with someone else.
Class was really interesting but super hard. A lot of useful information learned about things that apply to everyday life. Prof Buser is very passionate about the subject. If you don't attend class you may not pass. The quizzes and tests are soooo hard! Do the extra credit. Lots of homework but NO papers to write so yay for that!
Buser is very knowledgeable but can be quite dry at times. Workload is pretty heavy but all the assignments are online and you can do them ahead of time. Exams are challenging. Show up to class for a ton of extra credit for showing up to class.
The exams can be kinda difficult, but his lectures are pretty interesting and he seems to care even in a hall of 500+ students. There is a bunch of extra credit opportunities so if you take advantage of those and study a reasonable amount, the class is pretty easy in my opinion. Got an A- without putting in too much time.
If you go to class and just copy the slides, you shouldn't have a problem on the exams. He gives small assignments every week that are easy and help you prepare for the exam. You get to take it a few times until you get it right.
He is really good at teaching because he is funny and it keeps you paying attention. The class structure was a little strict but the online practice work didnt matter much for the grade. Tests were challenging. Non mandatory attendance. Extra credit for attendance. Good voice projection. He was helpful and nice in an email response.
Jeffrey is such an amazing professor. He really cares about the material and makes lecture really interesting. He makes the material as simple as possible. The exams aren't too difficult if you know what you're doing.
Oh Jeff, I loved him as a person but I would generally not listen to a word he said in lecture, but definitely go because of tons of extra credit you get. I took him for micro and macro, the textbook for macro made the class 100% easier, way easier to comprehend. Do ALL of the extra credit, its easy and gives a huge grade bump. Beware 600+ lecture.
I took ol Jeffrey's class for micro and am taking macro with him next semester. He really loves economics and you can tell that he is passionate about teaching. Sometimes its hard to listen to him after he's been screaming for thirty minutes straight, but the exams are VERY fair and he gives so much extra credit at the end. I recommend this class.
Mr Jeffrey Buser is very knowledgeable, very experienced instructor, he uses real world examples. uses the board extensively to draw graphs to illustrate the points. he cares about student and encourages them . he gives extra credits, he also gives test study guides that really helps. i recommend taking him 100%
He is a nice, interesting, humorous, and animated guy. That being said, he only teaches the basics and gives impossibly hard tests with no curves. Last midterm, the class average was a 73% with the highest grade being a 79%--still no curve. Good professor, but makes the class hard to succeed in.
Jeffery Buser is the best economics professor in Ohio, ney, the nation. Jeffery delivers his lectures with the confidence and wit that only teachers like Confucius could. If I had to choose between saving Buser or my first born, well, a lot of people would question my morality. Only formula you will need: BuserGOAT. He will prolly solve cancer.
Prof. Buser is a great guy and one of the best professors at explaining materials. It has been 3 years since I took Principles and high school so I was a bit worried about being able to pick up the information, but Busser made it very easy for me. Sometimes he misspeaks during lecture which can be confusing but he usually corrects himself.
He is a very enthusiastic professor, and you can tell he really wants all of his students to understand the material. The review sessions before the exams are useless, though. He usually goes over 3 questions. You need to pay for the textbook for the online code for the homework.
Prepare for tons of online quizes/video study, tophat pop-out questions(10% calculated in final grades), recitation quizes. Also you will have difficult exam questions. I have a good grade so far, but it costs me a bunch of time and energy, I don't think it worth that much.
'Ol Jeff Buser stands up in front of the lecture hall, reading slides off to the students. That's about all he does. He will then give you Tophat quizzes on material that he is about to "teach" you, and yes, that is for a grade. So, if you want to do well, read the chapter and understand every single detail before showing up to lecture.
hard to pay attention in class, seems to drag on. Tests are difficult and there is a great deal of homework (most of which does nothing for your grade). I attended every lecture, studied, and still struggled to skate buy with 75% on each exam.
Gives good lectures and does a good job of connecting topics (better than the textbook videos), make sure you keep up with the videos and reading. The tests are pretty hard though, a lot of work and studying outside of class.
Lots of calculus for a non-calc based econ class. At least two online HWs a week and a quiz every week and a half.
He had us do TopHat quizzes all class so you had to go and pay attention the whole time. The homework was very long and the quizzes and exams were challenging. However, he is a pretty good teacher and is great at explaining topics. He wants an avg of 75% on exams but gives 5-6% extra credit which helps. Would probably take again
The way the grades are set up are really unforgiving and the tests are extremely hard. I feel like this class would've been easier if I had a good TA but my TA wasn't helpful in reviewing the material. This class requires lots of outside work and studying.
Generally an enjoyable professor to have. He made sure to emphasize important aspects about the content and the course set up and he was well understood in such a large lecture hall. The course gives you plenty of opportunities to work on your grade but the exams are tough and could bring it down a bit if you don't study on your own time.
I actually really enjoyed this prof. My piece of advice is to sit in the front and pay attention in lecture. In a class of 700 it can get hard to hear in the very back. Also, he helps you out in the front of the class during TopHat quizzes. There is a lot of homework but it's not hard and as long as you read and try.
This class was extremely difficult. I am a first-year who took this class first semester. Paying attention in lecture is necessary to do well in the class and on Tophat quizzes (which are taken for a grade. Exams were extremely difficult with no curve. Read the textbook!!!!!
So Jeff is a really great guy. You have to attend lecture to complete the Tophat quizzes to learn the material and if you don't it will severely affect your grade. He's a great guy, even tho he teaches huge classes, he's great for seeking help outside of class. He's very knowledgeable and I would definitely take from him again, just a smaller class
Professor Buser was one of my favorite professors this past semester. It is very difficult to make econ exciting, but if there's one person who can do it, it's Professor Buser. He's very funny (unexpectedly sometimes), witty, and really cares about his students. Exams are very tough but up to 6 points of EC available. Definitely take him for econ!
Very enthusiastic. Textbook helps a lot. TopHat grade counts for a lot in the end. Multiple choice exams. Weekly group recitation quizzes. Not an easy course, but not too much work.
The course content is all online and easy to consume. Buser is an effective teacher and uses Tophat in class to keep students engaged
Buser wasnt too bad. Go to lectures but only for TopHat quizzes. I learned everything from the book. Never spoke to the guy, so I cant speak on how helpful he is outside of lectures, but lectures was just slide reading.
A really good professor. You can tell he's extremely knowledgeable of the subject and somewhat "dumbs it down" for you during lecture which is nice. Tons of material but he makes it work well. I took notes on my laptop and copied the power points and then made flash cards of important things before the exams. HARD exams. Go thru the powerpoints.
Professor Buser is one of my favorite Econ professors. I took ECON 4001 and 4002 with him. Read the book, go to class and you will be fine. Exam are MC. Every time I thought I did horrible but turned out to be fine. Recommended.
Sounds like Ray Ramano. Lectures are hit or miss for entertainment. Go to recitation and study and you should be fine.
Highly recommended. Test are fair. Give practice questions, and the test questions are similar: 2 midterm each consist of 40 questions. final consists of 80 question . Easy extra credit (do another one week HW). HW takes 30 min every week. Rec is graded by group of 3-4, so make sure have a good teammate Go to office hour if you have any question.
This class requires a lot of outside work, so be ready for that. Things are due on a topic before he lectures on it, followed by a homework assignment. Buser is very intelligent & tries to make his lectures entertaining. His exams are really hard and there is no curve. Weekly quizzes are pretty hard too but you do get a partner.
The guy's a hoot in lectures. It's true that this class requires a fair bit of work, but let's be honest, you need to put in the work to understand microeconomics (hardest economics topic) Tests aren't bad so long as you study adequately (for me, 38/40 on first, 37.95/40 on the second), and do go to lecture, as TopHat is 5% of your final grade.
Buser's class isn't too hard. I am a business minor and suck at anything not health related, but he made this class fun. Go to class, attendance and top hat are 5% of final grade. Tests aren't that difficult if you study.
Great guy, who is really passionate about economics. His tests are quite difficult, but doable at the same time. If you're ever struggling, go to his office hours. He will sit down and explain whatever you are not understanding. Overall, good professor
Professor Buser is a great and explains things so well. I am taking his Macro class next semester because I learned so much. I recommend reading the textbook as you do the homework before lecture, that's what worked best for me. The test are very fair and manageable. As long as you study a few days in advance you should do well. Extra credit helps!
Great professor with an interesting sense of humor. To be successful: Watch the videos. Read the corresponding section in the book. Do homework/LS. Review all quizzes for exams and the study guides given by TAs. Do not miss class; attendance is part of your grade. Two generous extra credit assignments that are quite easy so do them!
Lectures were useless as most of the learning takes place outside of class but I was forced to go because of the tophat questions. The lectures are just him reading off the slides and making jokes. The exams are hard and you need to read the textbook. I emailed him three times throughout the semester and he did not respond until grades were final.
He's that one instructor that makes lecture mandatory because of TopHat, but reads right off the slides so lecture is essentially useless but you are required to go. TA's weren't helpful. Wouldn't recommend.
I hated Econ, so I am probably not the best candidate for reviewing this class. But he made a 800 person lecture hall feel smaller. I sucked at the class, but that was on me.
The textbook isn't exactly a book but a collection of videos to watch instead and answer a simple question for each but you can access the textbook as well. Homework load is moderate, depends on number of videos for each week. Need a phone, laptop or ipad to use tophat every time for attendance and questions and moblab occasionally.
A caring professor , but he cannot handle a big class. He obviously is experienced, but when there is that much of students, it's hard to control them. The professor goes fast to finish material in 55 mins, and he doesn't guarantee if you understand or not. Participation and correctness of answers through tophat is mandatory. Challenging exams!
Jeffrey Buser is a nice guy and everything but his lecturing SUCKS. He just reads off slides the whole time and doesn't engage in real problemsolving. Sometimes his lectures are helpful but he only scratches the surface when it comes to problems. He hardly never goes into detail. And because of this, this makes the midterms really hard. Bad teacher
Your experience in this class is almost entirely dependant on your TA. Mine was terrible in recitations so I really struggled in this class. Mostly you have to self-teach based on your online hw, so if Econ isn't a strength, avoid this class
Should only be taken by students who need it for major requirements or a GE. If economics is not something you are interested in it will be boring. Lectures were mandatory( tophat) but he read off of slides so all my studying was done outside class. Tests are hard. Be prepared to be in an 800 person lecture with many distractions. TA not v helpful
He is terrible when it comes to lectures, however, it is mandatory to attend lectures because of Tophat. His midterms are tough and he has a habit of yelling while reading off slides. My advice is not to take this class under him.
Large lectures, uses tophat for pop quizzes and attendance. Do the sapling assignments and read the textbook and lecture won't really matter at all. Seems like a nice enough guy, tests are manageable. No curves but extra credit is available.
Biggest regret was taking macro economics with this guy, he makes it way harder than it needs to be. Biggest advice, is take this class with anyone but him!
The standards are clear. Gives 5% bonus but will not curve exams. There are other Macro professors who are easier so no reason to take Buser. He expects the class average to be around a C and is willing to curve down exams. Although it is boring, make sure to go to lecture because TopHat is worth 5% of your grade
Overall he is very funny, but he simply wants all his averages on quizzes, midterms, and final to be a C minus at best. There are always several questions on his midterms and final that never have any correlation to what we went over in class.
Professor Buser is a good lecturer, and does care about students learning the information, but his tests are difficult. He shoots for an average of a 75 on the exams, and will adjust the level of difficulty until that range is met. However, if you do well on the rest of the assignments you can still get an A/A- with extra credit opportunities.
Class is basically an online class but you still have to go to lectures because he gives quizzes along with the lectures. The class isn't that difficult but the homework takes a while. Do the practice tests before the midterms and final.
Go to class even though the lectures aren't very helpful because the participation on tophat is a real grade booster. Read the book and try to complete the online hw not just by guessing. The recitation is not helpful either.
Reasonable choice for microeconomics. I had him in Independence Hall, and he was very laid back as he hammered through the slides. He is engaging, but with such a big lecture hall, he can't control the class. Many people don't pay attention, as the topics covered were already in the homework. Everyone just focuses on the top hat. Study for tests.
No readings for class. Instead videos and learning modules were assigned for credit. Homework was simple and exams were manageable. Quizzes for recitation were challenging but given in groups.
Every lecture is legendary
Dr. Buser assigns a bunch of homework due before lecture that teaches you everything you need to know, but you have to go to lecture to do the top hat quizzes that are 10% of your grade. Microeconomics is not a very complicated topic so he basically just reads off the slides.
Jeff is a good lecturer. He's very passionate about Econ and wants to teach as much info as possible. He doesn't necessarily want to watch you fail his class, but he definitely makes you work for it. He expects a class average of 75% on all exams and he will adjust the difficulty of the next one based on that. Offers decent amount of extra credit.
Textbook is online and is taught through videos. Material is taught FOUR times so you really understand, but can be annoying. Likes to entertain during lecture. Tests can be difficult, but if you do the practice tests you should be fine.
Everyday is a great day for economics thanks to Jeffrey Buser. Just do the online homework on time. Take notes from the videos rather than lecture. And get the tophat questions right. You'll get an A- or higher if you do that. Key to the midterms is the practice tests, the quizzes.
Read the book, do the assignments, and keep up on TopHat. Not difficult to get an A despite his goal to have a 75% average.
I'm glad I got him as my econ professor. Econ is not a fairly interesting subject if you don't love it but he does his best to make you enjoy it. VERY LOUD and ENERGETIC
Professor Buser is honestly one of the worst professors I have EVER had. Be prepared to teach yourself literally everything then have the hardest exams. He is not helpful at all when you ask questions or go to office hours. Good luck if you take his course.
Least favorite professor I've had at OSU. Lectures are boring. Tophat is part of your grade so if you don't go to class, your grade will drop. He purposely makes the midterms and final very hard because he always wants the class average to be a 75. Didn't learn anything from this class, I learned everything off youtube. Lots of homework.
I hate this guy. Exams make up the majority of your grade, and they're very difficult. I have 5 other friends in my class and we all have C's. His lectures are incredibly boring, and for some reason instead of using a microphone he just yells his lectures at the top of his lungs so everyone can hear him. 2/10 would not take again
Econ 2001 is one of the easiest classes at OSU, and honestly most of the people complaining on here have only themselves to blame, because there's plenty of videos, lectures, and resources that help enforce the relatively easy material. The class is kinda boring, and Buser is an ok professor. Lectures are mandatory, but study and you'll be fine.
Buser is a great guy and absolutely loves economics, however I would recommend not taking him if possible. Must go to class to answer TopHat questions (which you must answer correct to get participation, kind of absurd). Online homework is useless and no help in preparing for exams... Just find another professor and save yourself
I had Buser for both Micro and Macro. Lectures are okay and he is pretty funny. Getting a good grade is pretty difficult, though. You really have to pay attention and study EVERYTHING before his tests. Questions are wordy and can easily get confusing. I'd recommend him for Micro over Macro any day. If you prioritize this class, an A is possible.
Buser is a good professor but lectures can be boring. Participation and attendance are taken via Tophat. In my class, we had 3 exams with the lowest dropped, 7 homework with the 2 lowest dropped, and 6 writing assignments with the 2 lowest dropped. He waited to assign the majority of homework and writing assignments until the end of the semester
So on our final we forgot 4 pages in one of the version. He also almost never actually finish his lecture. However, the homeworks are easy point. I hadnt to learn a lot of it outside of lectures.
Buser in class mostly just read off of the tophat slides. However, you should attend because tophat can boost your grade without much effort. For exams, I would review all of the recitation questions and go over the practice exams.
This guy is great. I have a problem with falling asleep in lectures- that never happened with this dude. Very loud, little crazy, passionate for econ. Don't forget to do the online homework it was actually very helpful, he basically reviews each lesson after you learn it yourself through the hw - interesting order but seemed to work
Other than the way Jeffrey pronounces measured (may-zored), he is a real tank.
He does not ever finish the lectures slides and doesn't go through enough review material for his exams. His exams are way too hard and much harder than other professors who teach Econ at OSU. He says in his lectures that he expects his students to get Cs on his midterms otherwise he thinks they are too easy.
There are a lot of homework to do for this class, because he cannot teach us most of the materials that is necessary for us to learn. His lecture is funny, but the exam is tough. I got about 92.8% in the end, but he curved my grade to A. He cares students a lot, and he is overall a helpful professor and easy to be with.
The homework questions on Sapling are not very helpful at all. Exams were tough. Class average on 1st exam was a 67%. Need to take extremely good notes in class to be able to really understand anything, even then it is difficult because he doesn't go in depth enough to give you a full understanding of a topic, but rather hope you memorize.
Never take him for macroeconomic. The class average for 550 students was a 65%
Avoid this guy at all costs. It's not what he teaches that's the problem, it's what he doesn't teach. He doesn't cover nearly enough material in lecture, and what he does cover is not nearly in depth enough to do well on exams. If you get him, you really have to work hard for a good grade. If you really want an A, do not take this professor.
He can't finish the content in every class, but the exam will still include this content. So you better read the textbook yourself because the exams carry a lot of weight. Tons of homework and reading with an unreliable ebook. It always gets stuck, reboots, and then resets your progress. Still, homework is a small part of your grade.
Very poorly run class, never on the same page with the TA's. The exams are very difficult with a 65 average on both, and have several distracting errors. He is good at demanding attention and not a bad talker, but when going through practice problems it's not unusual for him to get them wrong. Top 5 worst class in my 13 years of education.
WORST PROFESSOR EVER. HE STARTS THE CLASS BY SAYING HE DOESNT WANT SNY A's IN HIS CLASS
Weve had 2 exams this semester so far and both averages were around 65-67%. He never finishes his lectures and therefore its up to the student to have to read the textbook every time after class is over to make sure he or she is getting all of the material. Do not take this guy if you have the option to.
He just doesnt cover enough material in his lectures, and what he does cover is not super helpful for exams. He posts Everything on Carmen so you dont have to take a lot of notes, but you pretty much have to go to lectures. I got Cs on both exams and I will still end the class with a B+, but if you really want an A dont take him.
Chill on Buser hes smart and will teach you alot.
NEVER TAKE BUSER PLS!!!!THE CLASS IS BORING AND THE EXAMS WERE WAY TOOOOO HARD. HE DID NOT COVER ANYTHING BUT STILL EXPECT STUDENTS TO UNDERSTAND IT. AWFUL PROFESSOR!
There's no point in taking Buser for Intermediate micro/macro. He, literally, reads the slides which are just copied & pasted from the textbook verbatim. There's really no point in him having a job, he is literally just a voiceover for the textbook. HW / Quizzes do not correlate with class material, very unorganized, and absolutely no help.
Not a huge fan of the guy. Homework is tedious and excessive, with multiple assignments due per week. Grade relies heavily on tests, and he doesnt explain or elaborate topics in Lecture. He is basically a robot, reading directly from the slides, very few examples.
Buser is highly committed to teaching Economics and definitely passionate about it. The class itself had weekly assignments and a few midterms. Buser always helped me when I asked questions after class and during office hours. Overall, not a bad choice for Professor for Econ 2001.
Buser is a pretty good professor. Definitely not the easiest, and you do have to work for an A. Make sure to show up to every class, participate in the TopHat questions because they will be taken for a grade, and pay very close attention in lecture. I would suggest sitting up front so you don't miss anything he says.
. His lectures are verbatim copies of what is in the textbook, and his use of top hat is the only thing that makes going to lecture worthwhile. He often runs out of time to finish his lecture and just moves on to the next lesson the next day. The worst is that he writes the midterm questions himself and his own TAs had great difficulty explaining
Buser is a funny guy who really enjoys teaching Econ! Only problem is the exams are really really hard to get an A on so your grade may take a hit after midterms/final.
So many top hat questions during class time, so of the questions are way too hard
Buser is such a nice guy. I went to his office hours like twice and he always said hi to me after in his lecture. A lot of people say his exams are hard and do bad on them, but if you can do the top hat questions from class youll do fine. The only downside is you can never skip because missing just one class will wreck your participation grade.
I thought he was a good professor overall. If you went to class, it was easy to get a good grade.
Before class you are required to watch videos on the material that will be covered, in class you discuss the material, in recitation you review and take a short group quiz, and then the usual homework. This class isn't too bad if you pay attention. He does ask some trick questions of his tests so be ready and study before exams.
He seems like a nice guy that wants to help his students. He reads off his slides during lectures and uploads them online. Attend class for the tophat grade. Also offers easy 5% extra credit. Just do the bare minimum (attend lectures, do all homework, study for 30 minutes) and you will get an A.
It's very obvious professor Buser loves his job teaching Economics. With that being said, he makes it a point the first day of the semester to say that he is an "old school" professor, meaning you definitly have to put in work. Go to class and do the homework and you should be ok. He's always willing to help if you have questions on anything.
Starts off the semester saying most people will get a C in the class. Homework is watching online textbook vids and answering questions. Lectures have graded top hat questions so attend class. Recitations have a review plus a 10 question group quiz. Midterms and final are very fair. If you put minimal effort, this class isnt hard at all.
He is a really good teacher, his lecture is interesting and he is nice and patient. But the exam is hard, much harder than other professors' exams. If you want to take it for credit don't choose his course. If you want to really learn something he is the best choice.
Such a gem. The class was so entertaining with Buser, even when we had to switch to online because of COVID. Very fun in class and is also a great lecturer. He is very knowledgable and helpful. Definitely recommend! This class, however, is not a pushover. The exams are hard and you need to study for them. But if you study, its an easy A!
What a tough class, there were so many assignments to complete each week, it was so overwhelming. Additionally, the first half of the semester he did not teach at all and we had to teach ourselves from the textbook. Such a frustrating class, had to take it pass fail.
He never graded my homework so it was hard to know where I was in the class.
Buser is a great guy and loves econ but this class is NOT easy. The homework assignments are difficult and the exams are also pretty hard. There is opportunity for 5% extra credit though that really helps so take advantage of that. The class is just not well organized but that is not Busers fault.
Uncommunicative and easily irritated by simple things. If you bomb the homeworks you wont pass and tests are difficult. His lectures are confusing and he often misspeaks and confused words, which is more confusing. Very unhelpful. Class is easy if you read chapters and study.
Does not know how to use technology at all, barley responds to student's emails, cannot explain topics to save his life.
Changed take home quizzes to in class written quizzes with no equation sheets. Everything on carmen is not up to date, there are assignments with a due date of 2020, which was a year ago. All he does is scream in class and is hard to understand. Writes graphs on chalkboard and it is so messy and unreadable. Worst professor I have ever had in my lif
Buser is a super nice guy! I really like him as a person. He could do better at focusing on the most important material and communicating with the TAs. I do best on the tests when I read the book, not focus mostly on the information on the lectures. Sometimes my TA put questions on the test that we didnt cover in class, making it more difficult.
The rudest, angriest, and overall worst professor I have had. Horrid with technology, will never respond to emails, and never gets through the material needed to succeed in this class. Whenever people asked the simplest questions all he could say was "look at the syllabus". Doesn't care about students and their mental health. Gave tests over breaks
He trashes on students during lectures and doesnt answer simple questions they may have. His inability to answer an email is ridiculous. Would not recommend as a professor.
The worst prof I've had at OSU. Legitimately NEVER got through all the material in lecture, we were lucky to get halfway through and he wondered why we had questions. Test questions were terrible, even had a question on an exam where an answer choice was listed twice. Rude, angry, and never answered the simplest of questions. Read the book to pass.
Very nice guy but his lectures don't seem to help me learn at all and are very repetitive. But, I was easily able to teach myself from the book. Weekly recitation quizzes. Many places to get easy points
This guy does not do anything. He takes forever to upload anything, and everything in Carmen is messed up. I have to personally tell him multiple times a week he uploaded the wrong thing or literally made it due for the wrong year. Nice guy I guess but I have no clue what hes doing in a classroom.
This guy literally gives tests and quizzes over breaks. Yup! We have a quiz over thanksgiving break and had a midterm over fall break!! He absolutely sucks. Not a nice guy at all and we never get through 60% of the material in class EVERY TIME. You'll basically have to teach yourself the material if you wanna do well. Never answers emails, AVOID!!
Prof. Buser is really rude and condescending, not to mention a horrible teacher. Be ready to get nothing accomplished during class and fully teach yourself all the material from the textbook. The class is not horribly difficult but you have to work for it to make up for Buser's incompetence and disorganization.
The tests can be hard and there will sometimes be questions that have little to do with the content. The videos he sends out for homework are the most useful but you have to go to lectures for participation credit and recitations for the quizzes.
This was a hybrid class but attendance for online lectures was mandatory and attendance was taken by top hat questions, which were often really hard and taken for a grade. Usually nothing got done in the lectures so it was just pointless, you have to teach yourself most stuff from the book. The homework want bad but the tests were pretty hard
It seems like Buser doesn't care for his students at all. I listen to the zoom meetings and hear other students ask questions and he basically degrades them after they ask a question. Aside from this guy being angry at all times, his TA's do a good job and the class is easy to pass if you pay any attention at all.
He never answered questions in lectures, seemed frustrated by any question, lectures were mandatory and attendance was graded but they were unhelpful and not at all informative. Recitation quizzes every week and the TA is the only way to pass them.
The course is difficult but not impossible. To get a good grade, prepare before lectures (he provides slide beforehand) because you will have multiple top hat questions in each lecture. Homework takes around an hour per week. Recitation quizzes are difficult, but he drops a few. Gives opportunity for 5% grade increase which gives lots of cushion.
Professor Buser is one of it not the worst Professor I have had in my college career thus far. Material is hard, lectures are hard to take away learned lessons from, midterms do not reflect well what Professor buser "teaches"This course really does not require a ton of work but it is extremely unorganized. He yells and gets frustrated w/ students.
worst
Avoid Buser. His teaching style is subpar. HE DOES NOT TEACH WHAT WILL BE ON QUIZZES OR MIDTERMS. Trying to prepare for these -- where most of your grade comes from -- is playing a wild hunt for answers to which no clear ones exist. I love economics with a passion, but Buser's teaching has not done much to inspire me to pursue it. AVOID!
Worst professor I have had at OSU, class is structured horribly, exam heavy and lectures are uninteresting and unengaging. To top this all off, seems like he doesn't even like teaching annoyed at simple questions people post
Just don't come
Didnt respond to emails. Didnt communicate well with his TAs. During lectures would spend 30 minutes answering kids questions that had been previously answered so wouldnt finish material. Would get mad at kids sometimes for asking relevant questions.
He never ever replied to emails. Although every single lecture was recorded, you need to email him for the access. This is funny uh? His midterm is medium, which makes you think the final is as well as medium,. No, you are wrong, for example, the average of mid is like 24/30, but the ave for final is like 50/75. Bye, buser, never see you again
NEVER FINISH HIS POWERPOINT IN THE LECTURE, and GIVE QUESTIONS that you have never seen before in exams.
There would be many weeks where assignments were due Tuesday mornings and the assignments themselves weren't even posted, you'd have to go find them. He would be frustrated in class when people would ask questions and often would not cover everything. TAs would have to teach subjects in recitation because we just did not know what was being asked.
Id always heard that introductory Econ classes were easy, but boy was I proven wrong. Just because professor Buser knew the answer, he assumed we all did too. NEVER replied to my emails and was extremely disorganized. The exams and quizzes were always so much harder than what we learned in lecture.
AVOID HIM
Buser may know the material but is unable to articulate/teach it properly to students. No amount of office hours or econ tutors can help you outperform his lack of teaching. Completely self-centered, does NOT respond to emails, is condescending to students, and is unwilling to curve when a majority of the class has a d+ average. Avoid at all costs.
never responds/answers, condescending and incredibly rude, likes to "make up his own answers despite what the book says", lots of homework that is difficult/trickily worded, very difficult tests that make up majority of grade, probably the worst professor I've ever had, by the end of the semester he'd ghosted the students AND the TA's, avoid him!!!
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR
Professor B is an absolute.... . Avoid at all costs. Take macro as a CLEP exam or at a CC.
Good man but a poor teacher, communicator, and bad at creating engaging content. You think you understand what you're learning until he rolls around and throws nonsensical jargon on tests that makes no sense. Some of the smartest Econ majors I know struggled because of his incompetence.
I took the course ECON 4002.01 in Spring of 2021. It was hard, believe me, but if you go to office hours he's super nice and helps you through all the questions you had. At least, he did with me and I had some pretty dumb questions to ask. The material in this course was what made it tough, not his teaching.
The dude lectures for an hour and a half about stuff that isn't even in the corse. Everyvclass he gets about three slides (out of 20 or 30) into his pres. and then starts a brand new one each week. He gives a ton of homework but didnt tell you what assignments you have or when they are due. Also the hw is not about the lectures.
This professor teaches probably one of the easiest courses at Ohio State, which has been proven by other students in the same class with different professors. This professor, however, assigns an absurd amount of homework in a class that does not have a significant amount of information to learn. The workload is just unneeded and mentally draining.
Basically, the insane amount of homework suffices as your lecture for the week, but you still have to go because he takes attendance through Tophat. He also seems to want to make the class as expensive as possible by having you purchase a MobLab and Tophat subscription on top of the McGraw Hill subscription for your textbook and homework.
Lectures drag over the allotted time. Hard to get ahold of. I emailed him a few times during the semester and he never responded once. Though the material is pretty simple, there's a good bit of homework. I'd say for either of the econ classes, try to get another professor. He makes this class a lot harder than it needs to be.
Could do the same in the class with going to the lectures and not going. Reads off the slides, and doesn't get through them all and does 1 chapter a week.
Mr. Buser is not the absolute worst when it comes to lecturing. The man was made to lecture. However, his communication skills are VERY lacking. Jeff does NOT understand technology. Could never get his mic to work. When he did, he would walk away from it and couldn't be heard anyway. He also failed to tell us about online work we had.

Prof. Buser was not very organized and lacked communication skills, especially when it came to responding to emails. He clearly has lots of experience lecturing, but I did not find him engaging. The class itself is not very hard, mandatory quizzes in recitation, and the midterms and final exam end up making up almost your entire grade.
When you go to class all he does is talk of the walls. Very unorganized and boring. Yells for no reason, and is a terrible teacher.
RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN AND DON'T STOP!
Jeffrey will talk about random things that have nothing to do with economics.
I was so worried about this class coming in as a freshman, but he is not bad at all. People that do bad just don't pay attention to his lectures. Lectures are interesting, and he explains everything so well. Also great in office hours. Online work is annoying but you can quizlet all of it. Basically if you do the homework and listen you're fine.
Professor Buser tries his best to make lectures entertaining but it's doesn't really work. He drags on concepts during lectures and covers very little information during it. You'll basically be learning through online homework.
Class is easy, about 4 online homework assignments that take maybe 5 minutes each for each week. Didn't learn anything during lectures but doing the homework and using the textbook is all you need to do fine in his class. Yawn.
a lots of things will take points away from you, you will have tons of work to do
I never paid attention in lecture, it was hard to hear since everyone was talking over him. The one time I went to see him at office hours, he was really helpful. There's a lot of homework, so watch out for due dates because they're weird. Tests were pretty easy. There's a few opportunities for extra credit in the end.
I think that Jeffery Buser is a difficult professor to learn from if you are learning in a class of more than 50 (I had a class of 500) so the lectures were hard to understand and talked about one question for 10-15 minutes straight plus the alot of people that knew economics were confused by him.
Doesn't lecture and I learned nothing from going to class. That being said attendance doesn't matter, but tophat questions in class count towards your grade. Tests are difficult but you can do well by studying lecture slides. Homework is easy but tedious and the final grade will be boosted through TRATs and extra credit.
Overall it wasn't a bad experience at all, it's just that I spent a *lot* of time learning the material on my own. The only useful thing from the lectures was when we answered questions a group, as these questions usually were similar to the test and I reviewed them later. Other than that, he doesn't teach very well or explain concepts.
Be ready to spent a lot of time on you homework. He does not teach anything during his lecture. The only way to learn is watch videos from the connect system. He does not teach at all.
The lectures were ALL tophat questions, no point in going to them but if you payed attention during them you might be able to learn (but its hard to because theres SO much time in between each question). I went to his office hours a few times and he was super helpful and nice I just had a difficult time learning from his lecture style
It is a very very large lecture, which means there is almost no interpersonal connection. Attendance and participation are tophat-based. The teaching is mostly the homework, as the lecture does not introduce but merely summarize homeworks. Takes forever to email back.
He is a good professor, difficult materials since I was in intermediate economics, and lots of homework indeed, but if you work hard enough you should be able to do just fine. Lots of extra credits opportunities too.
This class was honestly not bad at all. The videos that were part of the homework really helped me learn the content in the class. He doesn't really teach during class but instead gives you tophat questions during class which in my opinion really helped me practice for the exams. Remember to do the extra-credit, that's how I got my A!
He is a great lecturer if you actually participate and listen to him. However, there are so many people who are there just to chat with friends makes it unbearable to stay in the lecture hall because it is so loud. Feel bad for him as he has to bear all the disrespect.
Very pointless lectures, all we do is tophat questions the whole time and when most of the students get a question wrong he just goes to the next question without explaining anything. You'll learn everything from this class through the videos and homework every week.
Professor Buser is a very nice guy and is passionate about economics but he is not a very good lecturer and leaves holes in the material. I have been teaching myself through the online homework more than I think I have learned from the lecture all semester. If you are looking for someone to directly teach you, this professor is NOT for you.
The moral lesson is that you should RUN FAST AND RUN FAR! He doesn't teach. His teaching style is to have you do tophat questions. He assumes that since most people get them right, everyone understands. He yells for no reason. A great example of the Econ department at Ohio state - in need of an intervention. Absolutely horrible professor.
The lecture is pretty large, so it's hard to get anything out of it and we mostly just do tophat questions every time. Attendance is recorded on tophat and you will get a participation grade at the end for that. The homework will help boost your grade and it was nice because I found the tests to be difficult. The extra credit was really helpful too
I attended every lecture for Microeconomics and learned absolutely nothing. He is a very kind and interesting professor, however he can get offtrack easily and it makes it very hard to ever take notes while he is speaking. He does give out a decent amount of extra credit so there is a good chance to get an A.
He is a very nice man, but just not a good professor. You can tell he knows what he's talking about, but horrible at getting the point across. He would teach a whole chapter in one lecture then do mini quizzes the next lecture on it. I had to teach myself at a certain point. Macro shouldn't be a hard class, but he made it very difficult.
Jeffrey is an amazing guy, he genuinely cares about teaching and his students. With that being said, he is not a good professor when it comes to lecture. He almost always got sidetracked and would not explain the things he would put on exams in lecture, just tophat questions.
I don't think Buser is a bad Professor for 2002, if u listen to his lecture carefully u will find that it is useful in some aspects. His exams are not very difficult and he may add extra credits to everyone if the exam is difficult.U can also ask him questions.
Don't take this professor. He decides what he is going to say during his 30 second pauses during the lecture, it is very unfortunate. He seems to not understand the material, and doesn't answer questions that the class asks. He loves the phrase "it depends", and consistently uses it during class when he doesn't understand the answer.
It's very hard to lecture 500+ students, so in light of that Buser does a good job, but most of the content you learn is based on a video textbook which is useful, but boring. There is 5% of extra credit. Buser is about the most average professor you could have. Nothing bad, but nothing extraordinary.
Buser's lectures are fast-paced and at times all over the place. He is approachable outside of class and willing to help. This is a class I recommended asking questions in and getting one-on-one help from him. Difficult material and tests, but if you put in the work you can pull out an A or a B. Enjoyed it so much, that I am taking 4002 with him.
I thought I would like this course, but I ended up dreading it by the end of the semester. We also had to buy this program that we only used once in the span of the semester which was annoying. I could have bought chipotle with the money I spent on that. I also feel the exams had a lot of really stupid questions.
Very average lecturer who is not engaging, but I give him a pass because it's a huge class. "Textbook" is just a bunch of online videos for HW, but those are very useful and way better than his lectures. Go to lecture for the Tophat code and if you try you can get an A. Gives a chance for 5% extra credit. Recitations are uninformative and bad.
Probably one of the worst professors at OSU. If you have to move to another country to take another professor, do it. His lectures are just powerpoints and he never answers questions during lectures.
There were always a lot of test questions that were never covered in class, glad there was extra credit.
All he does is talk at you in lecture, recitation is a little better. All your work will be done on McGraw-Hill, this is where you'll actually learn. The practice exams were absolutely nothing like the real exams
P. Buser was NOT a bad professor whatsoever. When I first read these reviews, I was nervous going into the class but a lot of it is exaggerated. With how large the classroom is, I wish he had done a few things differently maintaining a quieter atmosphere, but other than that he was very committed to his students. Suggest going to office hours
Lectures are boring. He yells a lot for no reason. He would give us practice exams he made years ago and they would have questions from content we did not cover. It made things very confusing. He never posted things to carmen when he said he would. He did do a lot of in class tophat questions which were super helpful when studying for the exams.
Buser is honestly a very good guy that does care about what he teaches. Many of the students taking the class are kids who did not put in much effort and expected an easy A but if you did go to his office hours, which were almost always empty, you would see that he is a very nice guy that cares about his students and wants you to succeed
This is my second Econ class with Buser. There's not much to say about him. He's a good guy who knows his stuff, but his lectures are kind of all over the place and pretty dull too. You'll do most of the learning outside the classroom in this class.
I personally thought he was quite funny, but his lectures definitely can feel long and winding. However, I felt like it was really helpful to attend his class because he offered his own perspective on topics I found confusing from homeworks. It's all videos for content-learning, and a lot of your grade depends on the exams, so make sure to study!
His voice is so boring and he yells a lot and doesn't teach much of value. All the learning is through online. Terrible
Buser is a decent professor who knows his stuff, but his lectures can be a bit dull. The real learning happens outside the classroom. unstuckstudy was a lifesaver for me - the practice questions really helped cement the concepts.
lectures are useless. you have to learn all of the content outside of the classroom and then the lectures are him talking about 3 things from the learning. the learning outside of class will take you forever and be due at the most inconvenient time. save yourself the trouble and take a different class.
I cannot describe how horrible of a teacher he is. None of his "practice exams" are anything like what you'll actually see. The exam structure is insane and does not relate to ANY of the homework assignments. You will have to teach yourself everything. Avoid at all cost for the love of God.
Mr. Buser never answered questions during class. His practice exams were nothing like the midterm exams. He would frequently cover important material in the last 2 minutes of class when people were loudly packing up. Very scattered and confusing lecturing style. Would not him as a professor again.
He won't answer a single email you ever send. Two months ago, I asked him to change a quiz grade that was put in wrong, and he still hasn't changed it. You can't email him an excuse to miss class because he will never read it, and you'll get marked as absent and the Tophat for the day won't be changed. He comes to class late almost every day.
Although Dr. Buser seems like a funny guy, I do not recommend him at all. He makes an already hard class even harder. I went to his office hours once for help on homework and he was kind and helped, but when I still didn't understand he then raised his voice at me and made me feel dumb.
STAY AWAY FROM BUSER AT ALL COST!!!! Terrible lectures, doesn't use slides or anything, he just stands there and yells at you. Over 6 hours of HW weekly, due at the most random and difficult times, bad test prep strategies posted, unreachable out of class. 2 VERY HARD midterms and one mandatory final. most other micro classes have optional final.
He was the definition of okay
n/a n/a n/a n/a
The lectures are not very informational, the tests are very hard, the homework barely helps, and the extra credit barely does anything.
Very disorganized and a disoriented professor. Only uses slides occasionally. Lectures are just him talking about stuff not related to the pre-class assignments. The homework assignments were tedious and not relevant to what was talked about. Tests are super difficult and again, not relevant to what is talked about in class.
Very disorganized and disoriented. Lectures are not related to HW, top hat questions, rec. quizzes, and tests. He occasionally uses slides, but mostly just rambling. Does not get to the actual material until the last three mins of class. Tests are super hard and nothing like the practice.
The lectures were very long and boring. Often the test questions had multiple right answers depending on what the grader thought was the "better" answer. Once the TA agreed with my answer choice but said the professor liked this answer. You need to read the textbook and make connections between the topics outside of class.
This was honestly one of the worst professors I have ever had. A lot of his lectures were just 30 minutes of him talking, and then the rest was him doing 30 minutes of tophat questions. I pretty much had to teach myself with the book. Also, the exams looked nothing like the practice exams, making studying so much harder than it had to be.
While I don't necessarily dislike him as a person his class is annoying at best. He will often show up late to lecture where he provides nothing that you didn't already do in the homework due at 10 Am that day. Tests are most of your grade as well. Overall wouldn't recommend it unless you're up for teaching yourself.
Would not ever take this class again.
I didn't find his lectures helpful at all, very hard to pay attention, but TopHat questions done in class are graded. You have to teach yourself most of the material. He doesn't seem willing help students.
Dr. Buser was not all that helpful during lecture. Sometimes he would just pull up some of the textbook slides and throw on some Tophat questions and call it a day. However, if you go to office hours, then he can be a really helpful resource.
Great guy not to hard
Not a great teacher overall, you'll learn mostly everything outside of class.
Lots of learning is done in the online pre and post lectures. Recommend reading the book. He is also helpful if you go to office hours.
The lectures are boring and unorganized, but make sure to do the tophat questions since they are graded. There are 3 multiple choice exams as well as the final. Most of the material you will have to teach yourself outside of class but reading the book definitely helps. Overall would not take this class again.
It's an EXTREMELY test-heavy course! Lectures are a waste of time, but attendance and in-class questions are graded. Wish upon a star for a great recitation teacher, or you'll have to teach yourself everything. There are many questions on exams and quizzes that he didn't cover. Not a bad man but a lousy teacher. Take this class with someone else.
I had the session where the class was 1 hr 20 mins. I would recommend taking the session, since there's more time for him to lecture. When it comes to his ability to lecture, Buser could get off topic, but is usually pretty thorough and gets through the week's material. Go to his office hours and he's very open to help.
Good professor who cares about his students and wants everyone to get a good grade. If you do the work and focus, you will get a good grade. While the subject can be difficult he does a great job of teaching it and knows what he is talking about. While attendance is optional, there were many questions during class that are graded.
Lectures are pointless and most of your grade is determined by the exams. The practice exams don't help at all either.
This class was so hard and so boring. I dreaded going to lectures and we had at least 3 assignments each week along with a quiz. The midterms were hard to prepare for and even harder to take. I would not recommend but the other professors are rated worse so maybe
Way too much homework that is not useful at all, just busy work. Lectures are pretty much just Tophat questions. You will have to teach yourself most things in this class.
He is a great professor who really cares and does his best to have a 700-person lecture.
He is older and just doesn't care anymore. Comes to lectures and rambles. No plan or desire to teach
He did not care and often made the topics harder than they actually were. We did top hat questions every lecture. He did not explain the content well and the averages on the exams were bad.
This guy is absolutely horrible at teaching. He has tophat attendance codes so attendance is calculated in your total grade in a class of about 700 students. He was completely horrible at lecturing and conveying information and the exams were next to impossible. If you're stuck with him just use chatgpt for tophat because he grades it on accuracy.
biggest tophat fan, that's all i can say
midterms are far more difficult than sample, there are no notes only tophat questions in class
Honestly people hate on him but I had him for micro and macro and it wasn't bad. Lecture and recitation not too difficult. Does do tophat. Study for exams and you will be fine.
Get ready to learn tophat
Get ready to learn everything through homeworks instead of lecture. You kind of have to teach yourself because he lets the hundreds of kids in lecture talk over him and clap/boo him. Not very respected and you can't really hear what he's saying. Super nice guy though just not a great teacher. Not hard material though.
Build a connection with this professor. He is very sweet and means well if you attend office hours and talk to him after class. He is not very approachable looking but I promise he is very kind and respectful if you are kind bad. It's a basic course and if you attend lectures you will be fine.
everyone hates on him hes just a nice old man but you do have to teach yourself a lot of the content, most classes are just tophat questions and him explaining it but theres an occasional lecture.
Lecture of 700+ people and lets all of them talk over him and distract from the content. You teach yourself the whole class and the homework is strictly busy work. I'm sure he's a nice guy, but it is absolutely not a classroom/lecture environment
Extra credit helps a lot, make sure to use recitation materials to study. Professor himself was very average. Nothing memorable about him, lectures were disengaging. Self-study is crucial.
Don't take any class with this professor. It's not hard, but you will be tested on material you have not learned. His Carmen page has not been updated since Covid. I corrected HIM on almost every quiz. I missed 3 classes and got a 73% attendance grade. I am avoiding taking a class I want because he is the only professor. I hope that speaks volumes.
Wow bad. Seems like a nice guy, and I get that it is difficult to teach to around 500 people in a lecture hall, but wow. I had to teach myself everything in this class. He rambles on about nothing during lecture, and then uses Tophat at the end of class which does not help the learning process at all. Practice exams are nothing like the real exams.
Overall, Jeff is not a bad guy just not the best teacher in lecture. I've heard going to office hours helps, but for the most part you'll have to teach yourself the material. TA's aren't much help in recitation either. Top Hat heavy and counts for a grade. If you don't do the ex credit your grade will go down because it's graded 2/2 instead of 2/0
Honestly didn't gain anything from listening to his lectures. The few recorded lectures he posted from 2020 were so much more coherent and useful. Tests were often harder than the practice tests. Weekly assignments, 2 midterms, and a final.
I LOVE JEFFFFFFFFFFFFF
Didn't mind McGraw Hill assignments, they taught me a lot. Not a friendly guy. Went to his office hours for clarification and he looked super annoyed with me while providing little to no help, that was my last time.
He was a very boring lecturer. However, I do think he gets more hate than he deserves. His office hours were very helpful. If you put effort in you will be fine.
Boring lectures, makes exam to trick students, and does not have optional final like many other sections.
Its rough. The concepts in Microeconomics ARE NOT HARD, he just does not teach it well. I believe that he is the worst professor within Fisher. All he does is read off of slides and put up questions on top-hat during lecture. Recitation isn't useful either, as all the TA's are not great. STUDY the practice exams before exams, they are similar.
This lecturer would be fine, but his answer keys are simply wrong for exams and homeworks. I've had to point out to him on more than three separate times, that his answer keys are wrong. I work at a law firm, and he would have you believe he knows more about the constitution than they do.
i ended with a 99 in econ 2002 didn't pay attention to a single lecture but studied really hard for the midterms
I like professor Buser. There is a lot of homework for this class, and each homework has a decent amount of work tied with it. Reading the textbook +lecture slides will boost your grade a lot, as well as doing the practice exams. The people who rate him a disappointing grade are just those with sluggish neural processing units. Pay attention=A
He's hilarious, but not a good teacher. I had taken the class before, so it wasn't hard, but if I hadn't already taken macro, it probably would have been a lot of self-studying alongside the homework.
Good person, bad at teaching
Class is ~700 people in lecture. Lectures mainly involved reading textbook slides with little added explanation. Top Hat questions were often more advanced than lecture material and counted toward grades. Despite attending and reading, I felt unprepared for exams. Comparable to taking AP course with half the time and no curve or grade leniency.
The worst professor I can all imagine in exams, even you study hard, the questions will play with you, you need to totally understand what professor think but not the standard answer. The final average grade is 55/80, that is just final grade for the whole class average grade level to give you guys an example if you haven't select this professor.
People are judging him too hard and also he's not tough, it's a big lecture hall so it's hard to pay attention either way if you blame that on the professor thats on you
700-person lecture and he does well with explaining the book. I would read the textbook before class and then go to his lecture, and it all made sense. It's NOT an easy A, but if you study hard then you'll be fine. He curved two exams. Attendance isn't mandatory but it helps with studying and the in-class TopHat questions are for points.
Be prepared to teach yourself most of the content. Class itself is pretty useless, but still mandatory because of Tophat. Exams are rough, although there is a curve. I wouldn't say it's an *entirely* miserable experience, if that's the bar you're aiming for.
Professor Jeff is one of the best professors here and he's really nice. if you have a question or something is not clear to you just go and ask. he's willing to help and we have TAs in this class they're always there for you! and they're very helpful. reading the textbook will make it easy to understand the lectures. read and askkk for help :)
Jeff is a nice guy, grandpa vibes. However, lectures are basically the textbook reading repeated. Large class, so it's very unhelpful when Jeff gets to the most important part of the lecture in the last 5 minutes of class when all 600 people are trying to pack up at the same time. Extra credit and a decent Tophat score will save you.
When he lectures he just reads straight off of the slides and rarely ever finishes them. The exams are much harder than the practice ones that he provides.
