He makes his lectures fun by bringing in examples and being excited about what he's teaching. Some of the exam questions can be tricky. And for an older guy he's not bad looking!
Carmichael rocks. He's so awesome I never missed a lecture.
Great teacher...he's great! And he was a great advisor when I was a bio major!

Loved him! He was an awesome teacher, kept me interested, and was fun to look at.
He is extremely clear. I learned a ton when I was in his class. His diagrams that he draws for you help immensely. It's a night and day difference now that I had to switch halfway through the semester to Loren Engelstad. I haven't learned hardly a thing from him... Exams were a lot easier with carmichael than they will be with engelstad.
very clear and exams aren't too bad.
Is so much better than Simmons. He actually explains things and isn't concerned about getting thru as much stuff in a semester-- rather he goes slow so we can follow him. His drawings help so much. He is also so energetic about biology that it rubs off onto the students.
Dr. Carmichael makes biology fun and easy to learn.
Pretty good prof. Nice guy and helpful.
He's very clear and helps you out if you're having trouble. Has high energy and is passionate which makes it way easier to learn. I highly recommend him as a teacher.
Exams are hard and overcomplicated. A lot of people dropped the class and even their majors because of it. He is really nice and very cool, but the average person would not say the exams are easy. Maybe he made them harder this year, I dont know...
He's very very helpful and never gives off that annoying vibe that you're annoying by asking a question. He also allows you to argue questions on test for possible points and has a very clear lesson plan.
All his questions on exams and online quizes are made to make you fail, or become confused. He is NOT clear at all. He might seem like it, but dont let his "easy going" personality fool you.
extremely clear, tests fair, take his class
Attendance is not mandatory, but it is VERY helpful. He makes diagrams, pictures and uses examples that make it easier to understand. He posts all of his notes on Blackboard, so print them off and write his diagrams and other lecture main points on there and you will do well. Tests require work, but he is enthusiastic and it makes it easier.
Nice professor, seems like he cares about his students. The final is hard. Harder than all his other test which is to be expected I guess. But if you do the work and read the chapters you will do well.
Carmichael is a very fair teacher who will devote time outside of class to help students. I highly recommend his class. He really makes en effort to not only help you , but get to know you on a personal level! :)
Powerpoints had no useful information on them to speak of, found it difficult to to figure out what would be important on tests. Very willing to help students and listened to what they were having trouble with.
Great, easy biology class. Great teacher, very understanding.
GREAT TEACHER!!!! helps you when you need it, he is fair with grading...best teacher.
I had him for both bio 150 and 151. One of my favorite teachers on campus- very understanding of students and really listens and respects their views. He would fight a lab t.a. on their judgment if he feels your decision is correct.
Great prof, do the Learning assignments before the weekly quizes and you will do great. You use clickers for the individual quizes and also do a group one too. Tests are easy as long as you study. Very clear and understandable!
Carmichael did an amazing job teaching. Had review sessions before every test and answered all questions in simple terms. Showed cool movies and Youtube clips throughout the semester. Go to class and study the powerpoint slides, and you will do well. He gives a study guide for every test, and most of his questions on the test come from there.
He is an amazing teacher with a good teaching style. Makes you want to come to class. Study sessions are helpful!
Very unhappy with him. His tests were very hard and he only gave me half a point on an appeal I made that was over a page long. He's very unfair.
He is a very good teacher as long as you go to class and take notes. He lets you appeal questions that you get wrong and earn points back. take bio 150 from him!! Also he has other assignments that can help raise your grade if you do bad on a test. GREAT teacher :)
The class is boring and the tests aren't always worded in a way that's fair.
Carmichael is pretty good.. As long as you go to class you will do fine. I got in the habit of not going and although he puts his powerpoints on blackboard, its what he says in class about the powerpoints that you need to know for the test, so that ended up screwing me a little. But he is super nice.. and not to mention kinda hot.
He is extremely clear and makes everything easy to understand. Just show up to class and you will do fine. His exams are very well written and nothing will surprise you. He posts study guides that prepare you for most of the exam questions which is really nice.
He is by far the best for General Biology. He makes things very easy to understand and he is always available for help outside of class. You can tell biology is his passion and he wants his students to get good grades. Make sure you go to class though because he teaches you much more than what his notes say.
Exceptional in class lectures, easy to understand. Drawback is some of his test questions are ambiguous
He is SUCH a great professor! He's passionate about Biology. His class isn't easy, but college isn't easy. If you know how to study you'll do fine. Do the learning assignments before the quizzes, GO TO CLASS (he doesn't put everything on the lecture slides), and do the end of chapter ?'s, at least 5 questions on each test come from these.
Absolutely loved taking this class with Carmichael. His enthusiasm for biology made the lecture so much more enjoyable and he is great about giving proper information to do well on the tests. His teaching methods are great and I would him for anyone that has to take this class.
Excellent professor, best one I have had on campus. Loves the subject he teaches and wants his students to learn and do well. You have to put in the work to do well but he gives you the tools you need and is extremely helpful when you ask.
I loved Carmichael and he absolutely loves biology! It's not that exciting of a class but he makes it more enjoyable and is really clear about the topics! The quizzes and study guides are really helpful1
I absolutely would recommend Carmicheal to any student at UND. He's so helpful and willing to workout problems you may have when studying.
This guy is seriously awesome. He is a master of his craft. He really cares and is great about answering questions. You have to go to class and pay attention to do well though because his exams are touch but very do-able.
Jeff is probably the greatest professor ever. He truly cares about his students and he wants you to do well, but you have to put in the effort. Very approachable. Tests are all off notes and lecture. Go to class or you'll miss something good.
Carmichael is an excellent Biology professor. He is enthusiastic and does a great job of narrowing broad chapters. Take good notes, not just off of Powerpoints, but off of what he says in lecture. Be able to apply your knowledge for exams and quizzes. He's always willing to help - ask questions! I would not want to take Biology from anyone else. :)
Great teacher! He explains a lot during class while going over his notes. Did a lot of assignments in class with groups. He words his tests kinda confusing, but if you do the learning assignments and in class projects you'll do good on his test. Also don't just take notes off his power points write the stuff he talks about down too.
Very nice and easy to approach. A lot of in class activities keeps it interesting. Fair with tests with many review sessions scheduled so everyone can go. No homework but gives optional at home learning assignments. Will need text book for him
I took capstone from Dr. Carmichael and it was a fairly straightforward and easy class. we often didn't have class either when he felt we didn't need to meet. make sure you put in the time early in writing your paper so he can review it so you can get the grade you want and you should be fine!
I took this class because it seemed that he was a great teacher according to this site. However I was very disappointed. He does not make class interesting, and there is a lot of information covered in little time. There are quizzes every week and the tests are unfair and poorly worded.
Dr. Carmicheal is a gem. He explains everything and has a variety of resources available for you. Attendance isn't mandatory, but he has several quizzes and in-class projects you get points for. He has online notes/recordings where he explains everything which are very helpful. He really does all he can to help you succeed.
Tried to trick you with his test questions, talked about stuff, nothing good about this teacher, had to teach myself the information. terrible terrible terrible
If you like going to class and group work, this class is for you. Be sure that you sit at a table with students that know what they are doing as most of your grade is based on team work. His tests are VERY hard and contain answers such as "All of the above are correct" or "None of the above are correct" Very tricky. He's a nice guy though.
super hard tests!!! its weighted very heavily on tests. 80% to 20%. He is not very helpful and makes you feel stupid if you ask him a question. Try to take this class with Newman or Simmons.
He is a really nice guy and all, but his exams are really hard and he definitely has a different approach to teaching. Genuinely wants students to succeed though so make sure you communicate with him!
Carmichael was the best professor I've had so far at UND. You can tell he really enjoys teaching and wants students to do well. I didn't find his tests tough at all, and he posts tegrity videos online that summarize all the concepts we need to know really well. No need to read the book, just listen in class and watch tegrity and you should be good.
Dr. Carmichael is a great professor! He makes himself available for help and tells you exactly what you need to know. The only downside is his tests are a lot of "A and B" or "all of the above" which some students find tricky, but it wasn't that bad if you knew the material. Excited for BIOL 151 with him next semester!
His tests are worded poorly. He talks a lot and most important information isn't on his lecture slides.
Very clear in his lectures and takes as much time is needed to clarify any questions; even if it cuts into his lecture time. He wants to see you succeed, and is flexible with his assignments to help you do so. Hands down my favorite teacher so far at UND.
Carmichael teaching bio 150 was my favorite class of the semester. By going to class, you're actually learning every lecture and that is what you test on. The tests are nothing to worry about, they're similar to the RATS (quizzes). As long as you pay attention in class and skim through the book material before tests, you're golden.
He is very good with reminding students of due-dates and what is expected of them and gives them extra tools (such as tegrity recordings online and previews of ALA's) to succeed. one of the BEST professors I've ever had.
Dr. Carmichael is the best! He genuinely cares about his students. If you make an honest effort to learn, you should have no problem getting a good grade with Dr. C. He even tells students to talk with him if they feel they should have done better on an assignment. He gives really good study tipsskills.
Great professor, you must show up to class. If you show up the RATs and ALAs aren't hard to get decent grades on (plus your lowest of the both are dropped). He throws in some trick questions on tests and has a lot of two of the above or none of the above options as well which can be tricky. Other than that the tests are generally decent.
Tests were hard but he gave you all the material you needed to study from! As long as you show up to class you can easily pass the class!
Dr. Carmichael is exceptionally helpful, but it's not the easiest class. As long as you study the material given, you can get an a or b in the class. He doesn't give too many points aside from tests, but RATs and ALAs do matter. Show up, and watch his online lectures religiously and you'll do fine.
Great teacher! If you put in the work you will get an A or B.
If you attend class for ALAS and RATs, take notes from his online lectures for the RATs, and just pay attention there is no reason to not get an A in this class. Some tough material, but anything on tests is very clearly and obviously covered in class. He makes lecture/class time entertaining and interesting which is always a plus.
Dr. Carmichael is a great professor and his sole purpose is to see you succeed.
Dr. Carmichael made me appreciate biology. He made lectures interesting and had very well put together power point slides. He also had online notes on YouTube which make it easy to review and study for exams.
The best biology professor
He's a great teacher and very interesting.
He was the best professor I had as a freshman, and he really helped with the transition from high school to college.
I really enjoyed him as a teacher. He's very straight forward and makes biology easy to understand. He has you take notes ahead of time, which I liked but some people might not, but he makes sure to go over everything in class as well.
I don't know why he has such an amazing rep. I thought he was ok. Didn't always help and sometimes left you more confused than before. He is clear on what he wants and what he expects. I would take him again if I needed to. He got better as the semester went on.
Best teacher that I have ever had! So helpful if you have any questions. He is even willing to look into group participation so that the people who do the work get the credit!
In-class activities you need to be present for. Watch his youtube videos and that's all you need.
Professor Carmichael is amazing! He does such an excellent job of lecturing. He has videos on youtube that you watch and take notes on before class and then you take a quiz. The quizzes are pretty easy and he has learning goals to look at. You do have to study for the exams and final but overall, the best professor!!!!
Carmichael is one of the best professors I've had. He is such a nice guy and an amazing teacher. You can tell he really cares about his students. His lectures are to the point and informative. The first professor that really utilized the scale up room to its best. VERY easy class and he made it fun.
This man is one of my favorite people alive. He is so incredibly helpful and is clear about what he expects you to know. You'll have to study a bit for the tests, but not an overwhelming amount. He even wrote me a letter of recommendation for a summer research program! Just, 11/10 great prof and person in general.
This prof is amazing!!! 15/10 would recommend. However, you do need to show up to class and participate in order to do well, but the class is so fun that it shouldn't be an issue. The tests can be moderately difficult, so just review lectures, ALAs, powerpoints, and RATs and you'll do just fine. Also, he uses the scale up classroom very efficiently
He has great YouTube videos which really allow you to learn what you need to outside of class. Regarding when you are in class, he has interesting lectures and also creates clear study guides for exams. If you complete the study guides, the learning objectives, and the questions at the end of each chapter, you should do well on every exam.
Be sure to sit at a table where work will be distributed evenly between all member of a trio or table. Class can be rather difficult, but it is very interesting and he does a great job in lecture. WATCH his online lectures.
By far the best biology 150 teacher
Carmichael is easily the best professor Ive had at UND. He is incredibly helpful it you dont understand something and understanding when life happens. He makes what you need to know Very clear. He presents information that is interesting so studying isnt so bad. If you have the chance to take any required bio course from Carmichael, do it!!
Carmichael is easily the best professor I have had here at UND. So funny, smart, sweet. I have now taken three classes from him and I have learned so much. Wish all my teachers knew how to teach like him. It also helps that he is good looking.
Carmicheal is an amazing prof! I learned more in a semester of genetics than in any of my other biology classes and he taught it very well. Tests can be difficult so study hard and you should be fine. He's a very clear, caring, and understanding guy (there's a reason he has a 4+ rating on rate my prof).
Jeff was very caring towards his students. He would stay late and explain topics that were confusing. He has several review sessions before tests, I recommend going to them as they will help focus your studying. Not an easy class but if you put in the work it will be manageable. I would take Jeff again for every biology class if I could.
Carmichael is AMAZING!! Its so evident that he absolutely loves what he does and cares about his students succeeding. If you pay attention in his lectures and do your work(rats/alas) youll have no problem getting a good grade in his class. Hes also extremely helpful and always willing to give you tips. 110% would take again, hes my favorite.
He makes sure to discuss everything that will be on the test so there wont be any questions or topics you havent seen before.
Great Professor, he gives you all the tools to succeed in the class. If you get lower than a B in this class, I'd be surprised.
Dr. Carmichael is the clearest professor possible. Learning objectives were posted for each quiz & exam, along with study guides for each exam. Amazing professor, would recommend taking biology 150/151 with him instead of taking any other science.
I did not think this professor was as great as everyone claims he is, but his class was not very hard. The exams were fairly easy as long as you paid attention to his skimmed lectures. A huge amount of your grade is based on your group's assignments, which can be a negative thing if your group does not care and you end up doing the work.
Great professor. Really cares about his students. No need to read the textbook chapters, just focus on the notes and ALAs/RATs.
Great Professor, just make sure that you look at RATs/ALAs before exams. I never had to use my book and he gives you everything that will be on the exam.
Dr. Carmichael is an amazing professor, all of his lectures are very interesting and makes it very understandable. There are RATs (quizzes) on each chapter so make sure to show up to class so you don't miss them and do the activities. He's truly amazing and there is no reason for you not to at least get an easy B, put in a tiny effort and an A.
If you do the study guides for the test and sort of get what is going on you will do fine on the tests (which is a lot of your grade). You have to go to class because there are graded activities almost every period. Lectures get long but they are pretty interesting. Overall, take him if you can.
Carmichael is the best professor I have had at UND. His lectures are informational and for the most part interesting, he is incredibly fair with students, accessible, and encouraging. He has a passion for what hes talking about and explains his topics thoroughly. In class assignments and quizzes almost daily. Tests are okay, must study though!
There was a lot of hype around him but I was underwhelmed. All of the lectures and his tests covered very broad topics, and never went too far in-depth. For students who want to dig deeper into biology, he is not the professor. The test questions come directly from the quizzes, ALA's and the study guide. He gives you everything you could need.
Carmichael is simply the best. I had this class in the fall, and it was great. Grades are based on quizzes, tests, and ALE's(group assignments). It can be tough at times but like any other science at UND it takes some work. He holds reviews before exams so I recommend going to those, cause it's a good refresher and he puts up practice questions.
He gives study guides, and recommends what you need to study, and then when you get to the test, its nothing like the actual stuff you studied. He seems like a great guy, but not my type of professor. His in class lectures make you more confused, and he does not explain things very well. Get a tutor, or talk to him directly for help.
While his genetics course was fairly easy, I became frustrated by it. Group assignments are completed in class, but never really obtained feedback on what was done wrong. Felt like I was not fully understanding the material. Tests were decent, but did not feel prepared by lectures.
He is a really great professor and dealt with the COVID situation nicely. He is very understanding and willing to help. He keeps your updated on when assignments are due.
He seems nice and wants you to do well, but his COVID set up was not good. Based on previous student opinions, this is a class that is easy if you attend the lectures. Because of COVID you only have a lecture every 3+ weeks and the online lectures do not teach much. He also told us not to read the required text, so you basically teach yourself.
The occasional lectures were boring and rushed. He does have videos available online which were helpful, but you have to use the textbook and make sure to use the learning objectives to guide your reading. All online tests were open note, but the questions were worded confusingly. He is happy to help with any misunderstanding!
Overall, great professor and easy to approach. Always made the material understandable and easy to pass the class. Only criticism is the tests were always harder than the quizzes, so be prepared to study extra for those.
Professor Carmichael did a great job of utilizing our class time. We did in-class activities and watched lectures outside of class. This was convenient because you can stop the lecture and go back if you need to.
Carmichael is nice but I wouldn't take him again for an online class. He writes the labs himself and the instructions are vague and you will get docked points for not going above and beyond the given directions.
In class lectures weren't particularly helpful. Half of the class was spent lecturing and the second half was spent working on an activity for points. Weekly quizzes could be difficult, but were not very similar to test questions. Test questions could be worded very confusing and difficult, so prepare for tests.
Dr. Carmichael is a fine lab professor. He was very accessible outside of class, and he let me get 5 points back for my missing diagrams (it was the computer's fault he couldn't see them) 3 weeks after the assignment had been due. He also stopped giving assignments on April 24. That was great as it helped me be a bit less busy in the last 2 weeks.
Professor Carmichael is the best prof here at UND. His exams can be tough at times, but if you take careful notes based on the learning objectives this class is an easy A. You dont really need to use the textbook all that much, but sometimes its nice to refer to. As long as youre taking notes based on his lec vids on youtube youll do great!!
His online lab sucks. His questions are vague and if you dont give the exact answer hes looking for you get docked points. His feedback is not feedback at all and most of the time he just puts ??? on your document. Just do them and youll be fine. His grading process is just annoying.
Professor Carmichael is an amazing professor! You do have to attend class because there are in class group projects and quizzes, but they are all pretty straight forward as long as you pay attention in class. He is great at answering questions and accessible outside of class. I would certainly take him again!
If you're a usual A student for Pre-Med classes, should be an easy A. You have basically no homework, you just need to show up to class, take notes and ace the open note quizzes. Tests are easy because he is very clear with his learning objectives, test material is taken straight from his notes. Great teacher, definitely recommend!
Carmichael has been teaching for 20 years and it's very clear he genuinely still loves what he does. His notes aren't the best but that's my only complaint. He's a very nice and funny guy who really wants to help you. The class itself is not difficult and I would absolutely take it again.
Great professor with a tough class. Its not an easy A, but its hard to fail. He is well respected and everyone who takes his class knows this.
dude just gives you 1 or 2 things per slide, & when you do the in class assignment, surprise, none of those notes help, neither do they help on the quizzes & exams, so don't bother going to class, just read the textbook, stay at home, because it's not worth your time
The first part of class is always a short quiz (RAT) on the material from the previous lecture, and there is a group assignment at the end that is graded together. The bulk of the class is a short lecture, take good notes on it. He drops the lowest RAT and group assignment score as well as offers a couple chances for extra credit.
Very good.
Professor Carmichael is a solid teacher. His lectures are usually pretty interesting and, at least for general biology, he drops a lot of scores to improve grades at the end of the semester. The final test for general bio was optional. His online videos to watch outside of class are helpful, but not mandatory.
Dr C is a really good professor for an intro class like this one. It's not talked about a lot but general bio 1 can be a tough course if not properly prepared and I think he does a good job teaching his students. He also is super understanding and you have some conflicts he's super flexible.
DrC makes content easy to understand and doesn't overload you with information. He does test more on concepts than memory so be aware. Watch his lecture videos before class (WITH AUDIO). People who complain that his PowerPoints don't have enough words are just lazy and not willing to put in the effort to listen. Go to class and do the RATs and ALAs
HON has 4 more assignments than regular section. 10-20 min lectures you watch before class, informative but not overwhelming. Tests all multiple-choice. Pay attention to RAT and ALA answers, they're usually on the test. Dr.C really enjoys what he teaches, and wants his students to enjoy it, too. FINAL IS OPTIONAL
I have had Dr. C for bio 150 and bio 151. In my opinion bio 151 is harder than bio 150 so be prepared. Dr. C is one of my favorite professors he is super flexible and is a very caring person and it always willing to help. That being said this class is not an easy A you def have to put in some time into it but will be good if you do.
Dr. Carmichael is a great professor but he lectures very quickly so try to keep up. You have almost daily quizzes and group worksheets to do, so GO TO CLASS. The exams are very heavily weighted so if you get below a 20/30 on one of them, you will have to work your butt off to get a B or an A in the course, so try to stay ahead of the curve.
You should attend lectures as there are RATS (Quizzes) and ALAs (Worksheets)that are done only in person most of the days. The online lectures that are posted are very useful in preparations for the RATS and the ALA are where a lot of the test questions come from. Pay attention and participate to get a good grade in this class.
I had him for BIOL150HON. It's an extremely lecture-heavy class, but he does have YouTube videos of his lectures online in case you miss a class. Unfortunately, he likes to play "jokes" like saying that he will sometimes mark a correct answer wrong on purpose so the student is forced to go up to him and argue why it's correct.
He reminds me a lot of Michael Scott from the office. Our class didn't do great on the exams, so he let us retake or do extra credit and is willing to go over anything one on one. People complain about him a lot but for the massive size of the class, I think that he does an exceptional job with lectures and providing resources to better understand.
He's okay but the lectures he posts online and his notes are not very helpful at all. The test are very difficult at times so make sure to understand concepts rather than definitions. Try your best to get perfects on iRATs, tRATS, and ALA's because they could help save your grade.
Just a heads up if you want an A you have to work your butt off and study really hard. I'd suggest no procrastinating studying for his tests. GO TO CLASS for RATS and ALA's. I didn't find his videos helpful but they may benefit you.
Carmichael is all around a good professor. Often his lectures feel long since he opts to have two 75-minute classes a week. He often lectures for about 3/4 of the time and then you will either do a team quiz (easy) or work on a group assignment (critical thinking). He lectures are quite fast but provides videos that are similar to lectures online.
He expects you to understand indepth concepts with very limited knowledge on biology. He overcomplicates topics and doesn't explain harder ones very well. He expects you to watch his videos and get an immediate clear understanding before class time. He would constantly tell students to advocate for their grades but then deny giving you points back.
Overall, he is a good professor, but he tends to overcomplicate topics. Class attendance isn't necessarily mandatory, but there are group assignments and questions that you get graded on in class. Exams are difficult because he words questions weird, but it isn't impossible to get a C or above on the exams. My advice is to study weeks ahead!
This review is for the lab assigned with BIO 150. The lab is blocked out for 2 hours, but everyone tends to get done in an hour. I recommend dividing up work for the lab so you get it done faster. Go to lab and get it done. Synthesis papers are also easy, although they can seem a lot at first.
Carmichael is a good guy but he very much overcomplicates topics and does not keep his exam structures the same. I found that his lectures were very long and it always felt like I was being more talked at rather than talked to. He is a very nice guy, do not get me wrong but man does this class just hurt my brain and his lectures do nothing to help.
Jeffrey was great. Attendance isn't mandatory but there are in class assignments (ALAs) that impact on your grade. His tests are tricky if you don't read the questions fully but all information covered on the exam is clearly outlined through the study guide and learning objectives. He definitely cares about his students and wants them to succeed.
He was pretty easy going, everything was clear in what he expected out of us as a class, and what we should expect from him.
Prof. Carmichael breaks down concepts well. His lecture videos are super helpful for prep, plus unstuck ai is great for quick study guides. Attend class, do assignments, and you'll do well.
For it being a general biology college course, it is not too awful. But make sure you are getting your ALA's done and LC questions because those matter in terms of your final grade, and missing one can severely bring your grade down. Not an easy A, but if you put in the work you will be okay. He also offerers extra credit on exams so TAKE ADVANTAGE
Great professor, gave several extra credit opportunities through assignments and test reviews. Very caring and you can tell he loves his students and what he does. Make sure you do the practice tests before the actual tests, usually at least 2-3 questions are on both.
I loved Carmichael's class. This was not the easiest class for me because I struggled on some of the tests but when I needed help, he was very accessible outside of class. He seemed to really care about his students, and he loves teaching. Do your ALAs and LCs because they heavily impact your grade in the end. Super great class overall.
Great professor. If you want an A, do every single assignment, don't miss lectures, and use the studying materials he provides. If you use his study guides and really try to apply your knowledge you will earn an A no problem. He gives so many great resources for your success. Sometimes extra credit is offered after exam's but don't count on it.
Carmichael was a good professor he just moved through the topics very quickly. I think he expected us to know everything he was teaching since it was such a low-level course. he used an online textbook almost daily in class, but we never read from it.
Dr. Carmichael is a good professor who is very accessible outside of class through things like office hours and responds to emails quickly. His lectures in class are very fast paced and the lecture slides he uses don't have much information on them. Watching lecture videos or looking through the optional textbook can be very helpful.
Professor Carmichael was an amazing professor for General Biology and Biology II. There is a textbook but you're not required to buy it and most of the learning was done in class. The online lectures were really helpful to watch before lecture and the tests were fair and related to the class. I would definitely recommend taking the class!
Dr. Carmichael is a great professor. I have a bit of advice for future students. Study early, use resources he gives, and apply knowledge. Make sure to look over learning objectives. Read through learning objectives, and if there was one I was confused about, search up a YouTube video (Amoeba sisters helped a lot) to help widen my knowledge.
Dr. Carmichael has been my favorite professor at UND. He is kind, has clear grading criteria, and wants his students to succeed. Study ALAs, pre-quizzes, practice exam, notes for exams - many similar questions used. Offered us extra credit on two exams and a cheat sheet on three. If I could take him for more courses I would. Very highly recommend.
The labs themselves are through pearson, but the lab sheets are annoying, especially if you take 150 through another professor the same semester so the information doesnt line up, the writing assignments suck and i never managed above a C on them but got an A or B on everything else.
Wants everyone to do well. Will do anyting to get you the highest grade possible. very understanding and caring.
Carmicheal has been one of the best "teaching" professors that i've had so far. He clearly wants people to excel and provides all the necessary resources to do so. I would take full advantage of all the study guides, practice tests, and MB exam assignments. Tests can be difficult but most of the exam prep is helpful.
Mr. C is the best. Very caring and understanding. Wants his students to succeed. Work load isn't bad. You really have to study for tests- use what he gives you! Lectures are good & quick. He makes sure everything make sense. A lot of group work, but it's easier that way. He does some extra credit. Final is optional. I'd 100% take him again.
Dr. C is very organized and makes sure every student understands what is expected of them. In the beginning of my classes at least, he will go over upcoming assignments and what we have to do for the day. Make sure to understand all ALAs, pre-quizzes, LC questions, etc. as they are frequently similar to the tests. Very good professor overall!
You will have an in-class group project each week but the groups are flexible if it doesn't work out right away. This was a tough class for my freshman year but his online lectures help a lot. He gives clear study guides and lots of study methods for tests so if you care they are super easy. He teaches well and is passionate.
