I hate math and he made it so easy. He acts like everyone is in 2nd grade and makes jokes. He likes extra credit and his quizzes are straight from the homework. You do have to study though, but if you do all the homework, you're basically golden.
He is not enthusiatic about the material whatsoever. Make sure you study for his quizzes because he only puts one problem on them and if you get it wrong you get a zero. And he gives about 3 quizzes a semester. He doesnt give any extra credit and doesnt care to help you pass the class. AVOID TAKING THIS TEACHER!!!
I have never taken a class with a professor as bad as this one. His lectures may seem simple however his tests are much more difficult than what he teaches. He often grades your test wrong and will have a horrible attitude if you ask him to fix it. If you are taking calculus, avoid him at all costs.
Never take a class taught by this instructor. He shows zero respect for his students or concern for their learning. Coleman refused to e-mail me his office hours, instead insisting I view them on his office door. He routinely arrives late to class, seems unprepared, and dismisses class early. The tests are more difficult than the info. he teaches.
He teaches to fast most of time and I did not really understand my work, but he if knows that the student comes to class and they are trying, the student would more than likely receive a C.
He never seemed confident in his teachings. Students would have to teach how to work out a problem. I attended his class everyday, did the homework religiously, and the test were still too hard for me to pass. The class average was always lower than a 60.
what he teaches is not what he tests on. his test are generated and you never know what is going to be on them because he doesn't know himself until you take the test. It seems simple until you take the test, but he will pass you if you show up and act like you care.
very relaxed, but it is hard to understand him with clarity, but attendance is not required.
I took his class this summer. he will teach it to u kindergarden style, so u cant help but learn it. he's not big on attendance but if dont come to class you will be lost. i thought he was a great teacher and RECOMMEND HIM...If u want an A/B take him... He will help during his office hours. Anything u negative you read is LIES baby.Pleez believe me
I was making straight A's in math.... He's a horrible teacher, doesn't seem to understand math well himself. He teaches directly out of the book, even reads the intro paragraphs before each section, if you really need to understand what you're learning, do not take him.
I am a math major and i took his class in the summer, he teaches alright but his grading system sucks I have always got A's in math but he gave me a C for not showing all my work
I DO NOT RECOMMEND HIM AT ALL. This professor is foremost the worst I have encountered. I am a person who loves math, but if you don't have the right person to teach it correctly, you will be lost and confused and that is what he does. He does not explain well and his tests are totally different from what he give as a sample.
I am not good at math at all. There just isnt enough time to cover everything so make sure you go to the math lab for further help. Very short tests so its easy to fail if u miss just 2 questions. In short, I dont recommend him.
Mr.Coleman was cool.It had been 20yrs since I took algebra and I made a B in the class. He may not be easy to understand but if you go to him he will help you.I bought algebra for dummies and that really helped alot I also recorded his lectures to play back @ home.He taught me alot esp how to use that graphing calculator.Dont take in Summer though!
Mr. Coleman is a cool person but sometime its hard to understand him. It seems like he can only explain questions in one way and when you ask questions he tends to repeat himself. The only reason I got a B in the class is because I'm good at math. I would not recommend that you take this class in the summer!
very nice man bt cant teach at all. ive been an A math student through precalc and failed his class. does easy examples in class and exam problems are completely different and hard. had a few times where he couldnt even figure them out. DO NOT TAKE HIM EVEN IF U DONT HAVE A CHOICE... our class average is a 51. don take him
Mr. Coleman is a nice enough guy but his teaching methods are horrible. He teaches straight out of the book as though its his first time looking at the subject. His test and quizzes are hard because the material that is on them isn't the same as what he discussed in class. Take this mans class at your own risk.
i will recommend this teacher
Unless you are very good at math in general I do not suggest taking him. He knows what he is talking about and is a great person, but is hard to understand his teachings. Just don't take him if you're busy thats for sure.
He knows the material BUT does not know how to teach it AT ALL. His tests have nothing to do with homework assigned and are 10x harder than his so-called study guides. The average grade for tests was usually around 20-22/50. Do not recommend if you want to really learn and pass. P.S. He can be funny and nice at times.
Prof. Coleman is nice as can be and is fair with grading. it was hard to understand what he was doing in the notes at times, so you might need to ask questions and talk to him or find a tutor
Nice teacher, breaks down work well. when you don't understand he will stop he's doing and help, and goes over what will be on your test and quizzes. Great teacher!
He's a decent teacher.Quizzes are from the homework so do it, tests are from the quizzes so study them. First part of the class till spring break was a breeze b/c he took his time,he fell behind, last part of class was rushed so grades dropped severely. He gets distracted and meanders in his teaching. Class is a little disorganized, stay on top of hw
He seemed like a really nice teacher but I wouldn't reccomend him. He does not offer any kind of extra credit and he will not allow you to substitute any test grades like most teachers do. I recieved a really high D on the final and ran out of time while taking it because he told us we had until 8:30 when it was really 8:15
Attendance is not mandatory, he is nice, talks kind of fast, but will go back over anything if you dont understand. He does review for the tests, and class usually gets out early everyday.
If you like math and you actually understand it, I wouldn't recommend this teacher. He doesn't explain theory behind what he's doing so you really never know how to apply it anywhere.. His train of thought is really hard to follow. He said... and I quote, "this might as well be an intro class to precalc.
Mr. Coleman is a really nice guy and a nice teacher. Sometimes he talks really fast and its hard to understand what he's teaching, but he's always willing to go back over the material and re-explain it. Yes his tests are hard, especially if you don't do the homework and pay attention in class. Go to class and pay attention and you'll be fine.
he is nice person however his teaching skill is horriable. I had to go to the learning commons everyday just to get a better undersatnding to the work that was taught
Nice guy,super hard to follow.
Good luck taking this instructor!! He only reads you the text directly out of the book & mostly just the examples there. Test are graded for perfection, so if you know the concept of what's being covered but miss 1 step or slightly misinterpret a formula it's completely wrong maybe a point or 2 credit given. Basically here if you know a lot about calculus already, you might be alright but if you need to learn this subject, DO NOT TAKE HIM!! Also he's normally unprepared for lessons!!
Very Bad explanation, only few examples. He is the text book example of bad teacher, trust me if your are ok in math do not take him. even if you are good at math i dought you will get good grade.
Coleman was a great teacher! I found him very useful! Use his office hours. He gives extra credit and online hw that will boost your grades up. To succeed in his class, you have to do your own outside studying as well as come to class. Got an A in his class! Would recommend him to anyone taking Calc I!!
The book was not mandatory, but I suggest buying it because his lessons were directly out of the book. Many of test questions are from book. His quizzes are usually no more than 5 questions and tests are 15. Test questions and quizzes do not math up to lessons, examples, or the review sheets he gave us. Nice guy, just not the best professor choice.
He's really unclear with teaching the subject, I had to teach myself from using the book and other resources for understand the class a LOT. If you understand math easily, trig is fine but if you don't and need extra instruction, this isn't the professor for you. He is nice and tries to explain but it's not clear.
Mr. Coleman is a really nice guy. He jokes with the class and thinks highly of himself when he makes others laugh haha. It's fun to watch, but his teaching methods are horrible. I've managed to always get A's in my math courses but once I got into his class, I am falling behind with a C-. Never in my life was math so difficult. Good luck to all.
He did not seem to take an interest at all. Also he would only test on very specific sections but teach about everything else.
Really nice guy. Seems to be under a lot of stress. He makes mistakes like any person. Make sure you attend class and show genuine interest in learning the material and at the very least you will pass.
Terrible professor. Was not willing to help during office hours. Obviously was uninterested in his job. Very rude to me. HORRIBLE Teaching method. I usually get straight As in math but took a W in this class.
Horrible teacher. No study guide for the test
Don't take him. You will regret. I'm one of those students made all A's in high school math classes. Also, i received an A in MAC1105. However, i have a C in his Trigonometry class because he doesn't pass out study guide. He just tells us what to study for, only cover little. Class average of first 2 tests were around 60.
He was literally the worst math teacher I have ever had! I withdrew from his class because there was no way you could pass the class.
I am genuinely interested in math, I would like to say I catch on quickly but this teacher cannot answer yes or no, he drags out every explination and is to prideful to admit when he makes a mistake. I will never take a class with him again. I missed the drop date but wanted to drop, bleive me, there is little to gain from a class with him.
Worst teacher ever. I am decent at math and still ended up failing and dropping his class. he does one easy example in class, then the test is like the harder than trig. worst teacher I have ever had. do not EVER take his class. you will fail.
He's truly a horrible teacher. I tried very hard& I'm barely scraping together a C. He is not willing to help, even though i participate & attend all classes. He is not a bad guy however his teaching is horrific. The concepts seem easy in class because he does simple problems, but on the tests he creates the most elaborate impossible questions.
If you think you will get a positive experience out of this class, think again. He is the kind of teacher to show you easy examples in class, but give you really hard test problems. He gives 2-question quizzes that are usually as difficult as possible. He is the worst teacher I have ever had, I do not recommend taking his class, take John Salak.
Terrible teacher. I wish i withdrew while i still could. Its a good thing he doesnt write the final because its seriously the entire class' only hope.
Stay away from him if you can. You're better off taking the class online because he doesn't teach. Gives really hard two question quizes that kill your grade. I never worked so hard in my life for a B. I'm a 28 year old grown man who is serious about school and I can't believe tcc has him full time. He's not doing his job.
I had a 4.0 GPA before this class. I study hard and am very committed to doing well. Mr Coleman does NOT belong in a classroom. He tests you on topics you have not covered, is not willing to help (refers you to the learning commons) and is rude when asked questions. I failed the class and have to sit another semester.I do not recommend him.
he is really smart in math but couldnt teach at all. he will teach you just 1% of test and might expect you to know everything. doesnt help at all and if you go to his office he will hardly specnd time
When I first viewed Coleman's RMP feedback I felt that everyone was exaggerating and being harsh on the guy. Unfortunately, they were right. He's a good guy but he doesn't have the slightest clue on how to convey a thought or even finish a sentence. He gives one (poor)example per section and creates each exam completely different from what is taught
Mr. Coleman is an excellent calculus teacher. I would take him over any other teacher for calculus. However I also took his trig class and it was very difficult. He seems to be more engaged and interested in calculus. Hes a really nice guy and is very helpful. Def take him for calc!!
To learn the material you will have to teach yourself. He teaches straight out of the book and test questions will come from there half the time as well. He will give you two question quizzes and 10 question tests, and he doesn't do partial credit. If you can learn well on your own, then I suggest taking him.
ok i love math, it comes natural to me, however if you know what you're doing and you ask a basic question for a basic answer you will not get your answer. he teaching is all over the place and if you're not so good in math then i recommended not take. him. if you like one on one and would love your techer help not a tutor then i dont pick him
If you're bad at math, do not take him. Math is not my strongest subject and all he does is confuse me. You really need to go home and practice yourself if you want to pass. He only gives one easy example in class and then hw, quizzes and tests are impossible to solve. Good luck.
AVOID THIS TEACHER AT ALL COSTS. He is a horrible teacher, literally doesn't teach and could careless if you fail or pass at all. Taught everything to myself and his tests are HARD. Don't take this teacher.
Prepare to work, but is a great teacher. Gives lots of examples. Willing to help.
Horrible teacher. Avoid him at all costs. So rude and has no care for his students success. Consistently shows up late to class and never teaches. Tests match nothing covered in class and is not willing to work with you on grades no matter how good of a student you are. One of the worsts i've ever had. Be prepared to teach yourself everything.
Professor Coleman is very knowledgeable about mathematics. Class is full of instruction and most in my class weren't truly interested in learning. The majority seem to be looking for a handout. If you study outside of class as well as pay attention in class you won't have a problem.
absolute worst professor. Is not willing to help students
The class isn't really hard, he just makes it annoying. He'll give you random quizzes online without telling you, and there was a good amount of times he didn't know what he was talking about or messed up. Test are pretty easy though, which is most (45th) of the grade. He not impossible, but it really if you can do better, than do that.
As someone who has improved upon my math skills over the years, this year was stagnant. I learned almost nothing new. He is extremely condescending & not helpful. In order to review before a test you must come in with specific problems you have already worked through with a specific question. Simply finding out what material to study is difficult.
By far the worst professor I have ever had. He came into the math class and lectured as if the content in theory based. He simply does not teach. Such a waste of my time and money. Got a D with him, took the class again, online and got an A
Hes not a good professor. He gives study guides and tells you that the test will be the same and then makes the tests harder. There's no structure. He assigns online quizzes and doesn't tell you. Just find someone else.
This teacher is by far the worst... he's always late to class, gives you a study guide(but the stuff he tells you is never on the test), he always makes mistakes in the middle of problems and has to restart, and he talks way too fast. definetly switch. I'm great in math and had to drop this class.
TAKE ANY OTHER MATH PROFESSOR. Jeffrey Coleman will not prepare you for the tests or exams and will constantly mess up while working problems. He will teach you things he thinks you should know but not prepare you for material you will be tested on. He does not care about you.
First college class & it already made me want to drop out. Not because of the class, but bc of the teacher. He has no respect for students, does problems in his head without explaining or showing steps, and the My Open Math homework is lessons you have to learn for a hw grade but will NEVER be tested on so it's pointless hours of work. Switch out.
Hes the worst math teacher at tcc. Ive taken 6 math classes there and he was by far the worst. Avoid him, its that bad. Trust me
Hard. I am very good at math and had to drop his class to retake with a different teacher that wouldn't hurt my GPA. He only grades answers not work and some tests are as few as 5 questions. DO NOT TAKE
If you are really good at teaching yourself then he is your man, however if you are not don't take him. Very unorganized and messes up on examples in class all the time.
This class is not impossible. He is not the best professor, so you end up teaching yourself. If you are good at learning on your own it is definitely an easy A.
Anybody could do what he does. He doesnt teach the material he just reads definitions from the book. This is not helpful or what I expect from a college professor. He doesnt even look at your work on test, just grades the answer which is absolutely absurd for a math teacher to do. I have a 3.8 in Chem, physics, and calculus. Im warning you run
Great professor! Very nice, and helpful! The bad comments must be from students who expected to get an A just for signing up! Prof. Coleman is great!
Jeffrey Coleman is a professor who reads directly from the textbook and expects the students to understand the first time around. If you are an independent student and prefer to do work on your own, he is a good professor. If you need help and would like a clear lesson during class, he will not be as helpful.
He might go a bit fast sometimes but if you ask him to slow down, he will. He goes over problems straight from the book and will go over it again until everyone understands. He gives pre-test quizzes before the test that will be almost similar to the test and he will go over it with the class. His calendar shows the dates of quizzes and tests.
Professor Coleman was by far the worst professor I have had at TCC. He reads straight from the textbook, makes several mistakes while teaching, gives you one example PER lesson, and gives you tests of about 5 questions. He doesn't clarify well and you practically have to teach yourself. I would highly recommend taking this with another professor.
Save yourself the time and money and do not take this class. He does not work with students and is unwilling to compromise. Teachs off the book and does 1 example per less. There are better options out there!!!!!
I've taken Prof. Coleman for both Trig and Pre-Calc, and expect to take him for Calc 1. Gives many examples in class. Web-assign was used a lot, which ended up being useful, although annoying at times. Tests were straight forward, and many times we were given practice tests almost completely identical. Learned a lot in his classes and enjoyed it.
His poor teaching style is only the beginning. His tests are written poorly. It's as if he designs the questions to trip you up in the wording. If you miss 2 classes in a row, you're screwed trying to catch up. You will rely on the WebAssign homework to teach you how to do the problems. The tests are harder than any example in class. Good Luck!!
He teaches what he'll put on the tests, though it may be slightly harder than his examples in class. Problems are in the organization of the class. He doesn't communicate with students. Tried to change the time of a test but only sent email an hour before test. Counts grades he don't you would only be extra credit. Not worth the stress.
Boring to listen too, doesn't teach, prepare to read from the book and teach yourself.
Horrible, Pop Quizzes almost every other day
It's a hard course, lots of material. You do have to show up every day because there are lots of quizzes which count for ten percent of the grade. The math doesn't change if you take it at Harvard or a community college, the lazy students just want to blame someone. All and all... Pretty good guy. If you're serious about school, you'll do fine.
This guy . Spent the first 4 classes doing 1 problem a class, a problem that should only take 15 minutes. Spelled calculus wrong on the bored, doesn't know how to use a graphing calculator. Have to teach myself everything. He also does examples completely wrong on the bored in class.
Not bad subject matter is pretty simple so far. He makes an effort to step through each problem even if it was something you should know from a previous course. Extremely accessible outside of class and willing to help. Sometimes a little flustered or unclear. But all around solid teacher.
I'm a pretty decent math person but I couldn't stand this class. I would do great on the homework, group projects, and the example problems in the lecture. However, when it came time for the tests I was completely lost. His lectures were all stuff i had covered before but his exams were completely unrelated, the best I could do on them was a C.
Had Prof Coleman for Trig, I will not register for a class with him as the instructor again. Teaches word for word from the book, looses himself in problems and creates many errors without knowing how to explain the error, teaches examples from book at amateur level then builds test with expert problems with needed steps that were not taught.
Covers material quickly, difficult to keep up. I'm good with math and I struggled with this course. He doesn't give much homework and is willing to take questions in class which makes him decent. I've never taken any other calculus teachers before but this class was really challenging. I had to do massive amounts of studying outside the class.
You need to be a special type of student to do well in this class. You have to be able to teach yourself because he takes the absolutely hardest questions to put on the tests. Tests are only 10 questions so if you miss 3 questions you're screwed. He gives no half or extra credit, and gives so much homework that has nothing to do with the test
He only graded six things the entire semester, and all tests were 10-15 questions. if you missed it in anyway it was counted wrong. not very clear in his lectures either, made many mistakes. The online homework does not follow his in-class lectures at all. no extra credit and not lenient at all when grading. The tests were way harder than class
He has no idea what he is doing. He would show us how to work through a problem that would be on the test, got to the end and wouldnt have the write answer and say the book made a mistake. Obviously the book didn't make a mistake and he didn't show us the right way to do it. Can't express how bad he was I lived in the learning commons. Got a B
I started off thinking the class would be hard because he a very concise instructor. He gives you what will be on the test and it's up to you to ask specific questions. I was in his office hours twice a week and went t the learning commons. He made himself more than available and I passed his class with an A. He is tough but fair
Totally ridiculous that he is allowed to teach students. He believes he is the Einstein of all Professors. Materials covered in class were not understandable as he came up with an answer different than the book. It was always the fault of the publisher. Do yourself a favor and don't even sign up for this professor. You'll be better without him.
I have never seen anyone take an entire hour class to do five problems. We have been learning the same material for three weeks and when he gave us the review for the test, there are problems that we never even learned about in our review. You have to teach yourself and live in the learning commons if you take him.
He does about two problems on the board that are review from college algebra, he doesn't teach the material then gives hard tests and makes you look stupid when you ask questions. really regret taking him because i know i could have passed the class with a better professor
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!! Professor Coleman often times can't even solve his own example problems and gives pop quizzes the day after many students missed the class. The tests are only hard because he does such a bad job of explaining the course material and because he NEVER gives practice problems. Save yourself and get a different professor!
By far THE WORST professor I've ever had. He has little knowledge about canvas and how to work it which means I would constantly have to check to make sure he put my grades in, he obviously doesn't put much thought into his teaching because he would always let us out early after doing a few problems. There is so much more but in general, DONT TAKE!
Assumes you know all of the material before he's taught it. only take him if you have a STRONG math background. A nice guy but not the best teacher I've had. Very difficult and it took me weeks to figure the material out.
Absolutely worst professor. There are problems on test that we have not even gone over yet. Could care less to engage with class. Be prepared to teach yourself.
Very bad at communicating and does not understand his own curriculum. Stay away from this professor.
You can tell that this guy knows what he talking about but he just doesn't know how to teach it to the class so that you can understand. I really had to teach myself and study hard to pass his class
He is literally the worst teacher Ive ever had in my life. In high school I was ALWAYS a year ahead in math. I came to tcc and had to take college algebra & I cant even express how horrible he is. He has no idea what he is doing & doesnt know how to teach. The lecture/hw/test dont match up. He will teach one thing & test on another. DO NOT TAKE
i wish i would of listened to his prior reviews after taking this class. awful teacher. he knows what he is talking about but cannot teach it to other people. theres 5 total grades, 4 tests, 1 cumulative hw grade, no extra credit. hw and tests are not aligned with each other resulting in you wondering whats on tests. legit take any other professor
THIS guy is a tough grader!! But, if you argue or complain about why you got certain questions wrong, he usually changes them. After he hands back the test and you go over it, always ask about the ones you feel you could have got partial or full credit on. He will change it.
The slightest mistake on a problem could cost you your grade. He isn't a good teacher at all. He moves way too fast when showing how to work a problem and moves on before assuring that everyone understands the material. In fact, he never really did much teaching. He put problems on the board and expected you to understand. Don't pick his class,EVER
AVOID AT ALL COST!!! The ratings are 100% accurate. I didn't use this website when choosing my courses and that was a mistake. Has 5 grades: 3 tests, 1 HW and 1 final. No extra credit and don't bother arguing because it wont work trust me. He rushes his lectures and doesn't know how to teach a versatile class. Also he does not bump or curve!
Should not be a teacher, cool guy but does not know how to teach. His definition of teaching is just solving questions on the board super fast then moving on. Doesnt explain well, sometimes gets problems wrong himself. Over DONT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HIM
DO NOT take this professor. He puts things on the test that he never covered in class, and spends very little time covering actual material in-class. He doesn't understand some of the things he teaches, and clearly has very little confidence in the subject.
Avoid this man at all costs. I thought the other reviews were a bit excessive, but they are completely accurate unfortunately. For an entry level algebra class, he makes it so much harder than it needs to be. In addition, there were times he didn't seem to know the material either! Save yourself the trouble and avoid his class.
