Great teacher... hard class and material. Makes class interesting and is funny. Be prepared to study though!
Makes his weather & climate course interesting and fun. Tells jokes in class. Always available during office hours to help with anything, even if not his class. Has a meteorology degree and knowledgeable about weather.
Boring lectures. The subject matter could have been very interesting if it were delivered in a more interesting way. Joke break for 2min.I wish he would concentrate more on making his lectures exciting instead of a joke break. He is also a bit arrogant.
Very Hard Teacher! Nice and helpful, but asks a little to much from students. Tends to forget that students have other classes and a life outside his classroom. Expect to get a grade at least one lower than your norm! Hardest class I have ever taken!
I have had many instructors over the years, since I am a non-traditional student. But, I have never had one brag about how many students he is able to get to drop his class! He keeps the stats on his drops and is proud of it. HE is the joke break!!
tough teacher test are harder than what they have to be. class is boring not very funny although he tries to be, knows his stuff very well but does not know how to teach it unless it is about the weather
Hard Class, tests even harder. Material near impossible to pass unless contstant studying of notes and book. Does know his stuff, but doesn't explain things well, (does explain weather section well.) Is very helpful and willing to help students who are struggling.
The class was very enjoyable and worth taking. His class is VERY hard, but one can achieve an A if they study. Mr. Constable will work with you to help you achieve your goals in the class. Overall, he is one of the best teachers I have had at ICC.
Must study HARD for this class. Tells jokes and is funny but corny. Must pay attention, take notes and READ BOOK! He is very hard, and makes you apply what you learn to the answers, it's NOT memorization of terms. Weather project is easy and will help your grade tremendously. Very helpful!
Horrible teacher, was no help at all in teaching his students the class. He would give the assignment and walk out the door, returning within 15 minutes left of the class I dont like paying him to teach me a subject and not being there. I think hes probably the worst teacher at ICC and to anyone who has him just do yourself a favor and drop it -kip
not easy. if i wasnt very good at school i would have struggled more. a nice guy and he makes class fun
This is the most wonderful teacher at ICC. You have to try very hard because...guess what...its college and he's not going to let his students get by without trying. He loves chocolates!
Just that I believe that he needs to teach smarter and work with those in need.
I wish I would have had Easc lecture with this teacher. He rocks! Definetly better than Resnick.
Great and fun guy. Explains all of it clearly. Grades quickly so you know where you stand.
He was a great teacher for my weather class. You have to try in this class to get a good grade but it isn't too difficult. His tests are a little hard - just make sure you study. I enjoyed his joke breaks during class.
hard test, must do a lot of work to get a good grade, cool guy that really likes his stuff but hard
Nice Guy. Makes classes fairly interesting. Tests are very hard even if you study alot.
so after having resnick the first time i took this course, i really didn't want to take it again! earth science is probably one of the worst classes ever at icc... but constable made it enjoyable. if you have to take this course, i would seriously recommend taking it with constable!
tests are very hard even if you study for them, he makes you write summaries about articals that are 2 yaers old and he grades very strictly either it's write or it's wrong. but he does try to be funny and once in a while when everyonne is sleeping he'll stop and tell a joke or two. all in all he know the info but doesn't know how to teach it.
First off, don't get the lab book, it's only required for his online students. The class is interesting, but he doesn't teach it - his powerpoint does. He barely teaches during lab either - we taught ourselves. Tests in lecture and lab are EXTREMELY difficult. I'm happy with a B - many dropped.
Great teacher who is able to answer almost any question you can ask him. The tests are really hard but can be Aced. Not a blow-off class by any means.
Had to read all chapters at least twice and still struggled. Many people dropped this class. too much work.
Had as an online teacher. Was very helpful. Wanted his students to learn, even if his students didn't want to!
He was extremely arrogant. He also made negative remarks towards chistianity. His jokes were lame and unless you plan studying 24-7, don't bother.
This teacher is beyond ridiculous. I have never had a teacher brag about his drop rate. We started out with 25 students and when i dropped 7 weeks later he had 11. His tests are extremely hard. He told my class he recommends you study at least 10 hours at week to get a B. He made an enjorable subject very hard and complicated.Tried to teach to much
I think Jeff is a great teacher. The class is hard but he is a Christian. I love the fact that he's told our class he believes in a God who created Science, He's willing to help you out if you take the time to meet with him. He's a pretty easy going guy. The tests are extremely difficult though. If you read the book and study the material however i
OMG run!! Is clueless as a teacher. Thinks everyone wants to have science as their major. If you thought you liked and was interested in Weather before the class, you will HATE it when you leave. He is a GPA buster and glorifies in it.
I took this class online because I work full-time and have a family. He required us to take 2 exams on-campus (which defeats the purpose of an online class)and would not answer any questions. The lab assignments did not have any sample problems and he would not show you how to do them. He should go back to being a weather forcaster.
He means well but I didn't think he was the great. He never goes over quizzes or tests and the only study materials you have are pwrpt and text. He gives no structure as to what he wants you to learn. If you take this class have fun memorizing 50-100 slides per chapter to pass... and his tests cover 4 chapters.
Very hard class! The tests were impossible even though I studied. I worked more in this class than both of my others combined. If you are not afraid to work hard and are not looking for an easy A, then this class will do. Despite everything, I came out with a B but I definitely had to work for it.
Mr C seems to think we all have nothing better to do than study till our brains come out our ears. i studied an average of 6-7 hours for every test and got C's. he's pleasant enough when you go to ask him questions, but his assignments are IMPOSSIBLE. i didn't have time for anything else. Avoid at all costs!!!
He's smart.
He's very knowledgeable.
Good teacher--would take again. He went out of his way to help all students. Always asked if we had questions. He answered all emails within a day and very nice about it. Never made you feel you were bothering him--as some teachers do. There was not one question off test he did not cover. Cant ask for much else--it is a 4 hour science class.
Avoid at all costs- an obviously biased teacher. Excessive amount of busy work w/ little guidance on labs. He likes to bash liberals and people who believe in global warming, but he is more like Al Gore (a favorite target) than he will ever realize. You cant take him seriously when he spends 95% of the time only covering one side of an issue.
Mr. Constable is awesome. Joke breaks aren't the best jokes but they will definitely add a little more fun to the class. Interesting lectures, and he's a nice funny guy. But not for the student who wants an easy blowoff class. All in all great teacher!
great guy! our class rick rolled him one day and he was so cool about it and thought it was funny! teaches well, just very hard. in general he is a very nice guy and just fun to talk to
Mr. C's a nice guy but this class is crazy HARD! I'm having to spend at least 2-3 hours a DAY M-F to get the chapters read, labs done, quizzes & articles all done & that's not even with studying for tests! His lack of understanding that we need things like study guides and not just a book and ppts to help us is insanity. I wouldn't recommend him.
He is the worst teacher i have ever had. If you actually want to learn about astronomy don't take his class. All he talks about is the weather and hurricanes. On his first test our class average was a 56%. Thats how hard it was. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
It was his first time teaching this class and you can def tell. Every one of my classmates have been dissapointed with this class. His tests are way to hard and its as if hes trying to trick you with his test questions. Our first test our class averaged 56% thats how bad!! i will never recommend this teacher to anyone.
Hardest class I have ever taken. Tests are really hard and the lab quizzes are even worse. Some parts were interesting, but if you don't like math and studying 4-5 hours a week for a class, STAY AWAY!
This teacher is by far the worst teacher at ICC. He doesn't help us at all and expects us to know the correct answer to something that he really didn't go over in class. If you need to take a Physical Science class. Do not get him.
Jeffry Constable teaches a rather difficult course. He urged me to study 2-12 hours a week to excel in his course. He clearly stated this a few/couple/ like 3 or 4 times in class. If you don't like to put on your try hard pants on or be challenged this class is not for you.
Hardest teacher I've ever had. Tests were ridiculous and impossible. Expected us to study a min. of 14 hrs. a week. Thought we did too good on an opinion paper, said we cheated and made it extremely hard. Spent time on irrelevant issues. Absolutely murders your GPA and seems to be proud of it. He doesn't really even know his material well
It was my hardest class yet but he was always trying to have fun and help us out. I would take another class with him.
I love astronomy so this was an interesting class for me. The material is hard, but if you pay attention, he goes over all you need to know in lecture. Honestly my favorite professor by far.
He was a great teacher! May have been a little boring at times and his jokes are corny, but at least he tries! He does so well at trying to make sure every student understands, and is very reasonable with homework and whatnot. If looking for a gene ed, I would recommend him!
Best teacher I have ever had! On all his tests he places extra credit questions that are completely random ,and irrelevant, but they make you think, and are usually pretty funny. Huge Blackhawks fan. Tells you flat out what to expect from his class this class was not any more hard than a bio 145-145 class. Totally recommend
Reads off a powerpoint for class. If you take notes and study you will definitely pass the class! Tests are very straight forward and can be tough if you don't study enough. He has a very odd sense of humor and is very knowledgable about earth science. I also had him for lab and that was just as easy as his class!
Great guy. He's funny and tries to make it interesting. The class is EXTREMELY difficult though. The lab is pretty much a separate math class. No matter how much I study, I still fail. The highest test grade I got was a 65% and the class average was a 63%.
Super nice guy (with a very loud voice). The class is a little boring, because all he does is read off Powerpoints or show videos, but he knows his stuff & clearly loves the subject. If you study & pay attention, the class isn't too hard. His corny jokes always made me chuckle too.
Possibly the most frustrating teacher I have ever had. He is enthusiastic and knows his astronomy, however he fails at teaching it. The class is PowerPoint after power point and mostly memorization. He crams a lot of work into few days. Our last week we had 2 quizzes 2 tests and 2 papers, then our final. Class average was less then 65. Lots of F's
I will admit, the guy knows his stuff. When it comes to teaching it, not so good... Powerpoint lectures every class. Little to none of it is even on the exams. He also does not tell you specifics on what to study, just the chapter and main topic. I would not recommend this teacher to anyone.
Very knowledgable in the subject... Terrible in teaching. Lectures are straight PowerPoint. He expects you to spend 10-14 hrs a week studying and the tests are nothing like the material. Lab is it's own separate math class. Not even related.
Just like economics, it's practically a new language. Pay attention, study, go to lab, study, pay attention, and study.
I had Constable for earth science lab but Resnick for lecture. I wish I'd had Constable for lecture because in lab he was always so excited about earth science. In lab he was always very helpful. He would always explain every lab in great detail which could get time consuming but was very helpful in the end.
This was an extremely difficult class. The labs were close to impossible to understand at times and the directions for them were pretty sketchy. The chapter quizzes were not too bad though. There were two tests on campus and two online. The on campus ones were really tough. I got an A because he rounded my overall 89% grade up.
I've taken 3 of Mr. Constable's courses now, and received A's in all! Granted, it is not an easy class and you must work for it. Don't skip class or come late, he hates it. The tests are difficult, but the regular quizzes are much easier. Lab for this course was much easier than other labs I've taken. Very kind and always there for his class!
Jeff is a great professor. He's funny and loves everything from the 80's. He also likes Star Wars and LOTR. I enjoyed taking his class and would take it again. Like any college level course you do have to do some work. Most of the labs were straight forward. He always told us when we would have quizzes or tests so we knew what to study for.
Mr. C is an awesome professor. My favorite one I've had so far. His class is challenging because he does expect the students to learn a lot of information, but it is college!! He does NOT give study guides so you have to create your own. If you do not study, you will not pass. He's extremely helpful to anyone with questions. Study, study, study!!
He is a great teacher who will work with you. Especially when you work all the time. He lets you make up tests and labs even when you don't give him notice. He is a pretty awesome teacher!
This was an extremely difficult course! Be prepared to spend at least 15 hours/week studying and doing assignments. The labs were extremely broad, and he didn't offer much guidance. He was not helpful when contacting him. Sent labs to him to check - if something was wrong, he would say "incorrect"... Interesting material but not a very good teacher
Do not take this class unless you have to. The labs and the tests were very difficult. I passed this class, but I had to put in so much effort.
Mr. C knows his material like his reflection, and makes it enjoyable to learn. It is much more math than I thought it would be- be prepared for it! His labs are easy as long as you take the time allotted. Very easy grader for article summaries. Clear directions. Must go to Riverfront Planetarium 2x, but if you can't go he's open to make ups/other
Absolutely avoid. His tests are incredibly difficult, more than half the class fail each test and he seems impressed by it.
Avoid this teacher at all costs. Teacher does not respond in a timely manner, and when he does respond he does not address your questions. Does not provide study guides, or point you in the right direction at all. Very satisfied with our test avg of 51%. Gets satisfaction from failing grades, and ruining GPA's. Worst teacher I have ever had.
This man has no business teaching. He wants you to fail and goes to every possible measure to make sure it happens. Our class test average was ALWAYS in the 50% range and he loved it. Avoid!
I copied notes straight from the slides, and still would receive F's on his test. I had him for lab and he would use up half the time just to explain the lab, and then expect me to stay after and miss my next class to finish my work. I dropped his class needless to say. He started the class by saying most students would receive a C or lower.
He was brutal. In the beginning he said that one or two would receive an A, a few would receive a B, a few more would receive a C and everyone else would receive a D or lower. "I have lowered my standards enough over the past twenty years I will not lower them anymore. WELL, when over fifty percent of your class is failing,.. that is a problem.
Online course Easc 118, would not reccomend. Hard subject, very hard teacher. I had a 4.0 gpa until i recieved a C in this class. Tests extermely hard and you have to take 2 in person, no E.C. would not reccomend
All he does is read off of power points made by the book, then give you "critically thinking" test that he makes himself not just based off the power points but what he thought you should know. 50% of class got a C or lower on every test. Over 60% of class got a C or lower as final grade. Terrible teacher who doesn't care about you learning.
Worst teacher Ive had in my college career. Class average was a 71% in my class. Tests are application of lectures he reads directly off the PowerPoints, have no study guide, and are never curved no matter how bad the class does. 90% of your grades will be quizzes and tests, so no buffer points. He could honestly not care less about your grade
I honestly can't say enough BAD things about this prof. First off, he never tells you specifics on what to study for the big exams, just chapters. His feedback & examples for papers and quizzes are hardly helpful and he wonders how everyone gets a bad grade. The only good thing I can say is that he rounded my grade up to a C. The struggle was REAL.
First day of class we were told most of the class would get C's & D's. Teaching is not his calling or forte.
(I was in EASC117 not EASC118) He is a horrible professor. He doesn't give study guides. The notes are at least 100 slides per chapter and tests are usually 4 chapters. So you are looking over roughly 400 slides to prepare for a test. Doesn't seem to "care" about the students grades. Never used to text book. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND AT ALL!!!!
Unacceptable excuse for a teacher. Some people are simply not meant to work in this field and unfortunately they still do, this is one of those cases. From an unorganized mess of work structure, to tests that do not at all rely on what you have learned but instead on what you can memorize. AVOID THIS TEACHER and find someone else.
Don't buy the book never used it or the online access code. Very lecture heavy make sure to take all the notes you can. Tests are difficult they aren't just memorizing the notes you have to know how things connect and what terms mean in context. One positive thing he offers a star gazing trip as an extra credit opportunity and I recommend going
I really enjoyed this course. It was very difficult and you really have to work hard for a good grade. I liked the challenge of it though. I would definitely take another course by Mr. C.
I would not recommend this professor. This course is meant to be fun and learning this material should be interesting because we deal with the earth everyday but this class was made way too hard for no reason. Not specific on due dates & then hell mark you off for turning it in late.
Professor C. gives little to no feedback on assignments. You get a grade and that's about all unless you specifically ask. then he gives you generic responses. We had 6 papers to write. I did fine on them, but don't have a clue what I missed. Lectures are PowerPoints read with little clarification or in-depth material.
Worst professor Ive ever had. I should have trusted these reviews but I thought how bad can it be? He is completely disorganized. Doesnt follow his own syllabus. Based a test off of a field trip that wasnt mandatory in the middle of a pandemic. You can look up all the test answers online but the labs take HOURS. I would have dropped if I could.
Very difficult course, there are so many questions on the quiz that will stump you, lots of reading.
A little disorganized, gets distracted easily, but he expects a lot from his students and he's always there to help so it's not entirely the professor's fault that so many kids struggle it's just a hard class
This professor is a funny man, but gets easily distracted. On quizzes, it seemed that a portion of the material we were expected to know was never covered in lecture or in our textbook. If you take this course, study, study, and study. Comes off slightly confrontational, his opinion or the highway even though he says he's open for new ideas.
Mr. Constable is an overall okay professor. His classes are extremely lecture and text book heavy which have a huge amount of content in some of them. One of his lectures took a solid two and a half hours to get through plus the labs at the end are pretty long. He does not provide feedback on assignments unless asked and is generally vague.
The bane of my existence. 1.5-2.5 hours of lecture per week. We're talking 100+ slides. You need to be willing to sit for a very long time in front of your computer, and then take a quiz/test that is critical thinking. In my opinion, this class is too advanced for a gen. ed. class. Lab was a completely separate student-led algebra class basically.
Professor Constable is a professor teaching a weather and climate professor the openly believes climate change is a hoax. This in addition to other comments made on the quality of his teaching in other reviews should be enough reason to take a different earth science class for the credit. If you are taking this class to major in it, I am sorry.
Pretty alright professor. Pleased by prof's enthusiasm for the subject, and that the class was challenging. Was less pleased that he is not online-savvy, and this was an online class. This class is all solo work, but the quizzes/tests are tough and you need to actually do the work!
Absolutely terrible! Very judgemental, offers absolutely no help at all! He puts false claims on students about stuff. He also loves to send emails at very odd times in the night and weekends. Was so bad I dropped the class because of how bad of a teacher he was and disrespectful to the max!
As for the teacher, he was a little awkward but funny, and a pretty ok lecturer. At least for astronomy, the class can still be great, but you have to be REALLY good at studying on your own time. More than half the class withdrew or got an F/D, though I personally did really well. Labs are pretty easy. The field trips were amazing.
Had two classes with him, miserable both times. Brutal grader that will not hand back tests/quizzes unless you ask. Allows a notecard on tests, but does not provide a study guide for 60+ slides worth of hard content. All but 6 people in a nearly 30 person class scored below a C. Challenging course made harder by his teaching and stubbornness.
Overall, decent. HOURS of lectures that are sometimes easy to understand, sometimes not. This man RAMBLES, which can be entertaining, but not when it makes lectures go 2x longer and he repeats the same thing over and over and over. Also, do NOT spend money on the Pearson textbook. We thought assignments would be on there. We NEVER used it.
I deserve legal compensation for having to take that class. He seems like a nice guy, but his lectures are so boring. They're each 80-100+ slides long, so it's hard to pay attention especially when he goes on his tangents. It's a little ironic that as a weather and climate professor he was almost denying climate change by saying it's all politics
I don't hate the guy by any stretch, but his way of teaching was not for me. His class is super lecture heavy. Some of his PowerPoints were just word vomit and, he would go tangents. Also, it doesn't make sense that as a former weather man that you actively downplay the importance of climate change in our world and, just call it politics.
Prof Constable's weather and climate class was very info heavy, but nothing you couldn't handle with a little effort. He lectures the entire class time but he is funny and cracks many jokes- you can tell he is very passionate which makes the class easier tbh. I will say one thing YOU WILL NOT PASS THIS CLASS IF YOU DONT STUDY. there are many quizes
