Very terrible person. The class was very boring. When I asked question or need help for writing, he always refused to explain details. And he also forbid me to ask help from English tutor whom providing from ohlone English learning center.

He's a real jerk. Very inconsiderate and not sentimental at all. He engages in a lot of favoritism. I put a lot of time into the class and showed that i was concerned about my grade. He snubbed me off and told me he was going to fail me because of one minor assignment that i misunderstood. NOT RECC.

one of the worst teachers i have ever had. you can tell he has your grade picked out for you the day he meets you. nitpicks, never answers questions, dosent even know what a joke is...cant tell em or get em. plays favorites with the students and is just flat out boring as hell.

can't stand the guy. in a nutshell: read handouts, do essays, leave class really early, grades unfairly, and does not explain the assignment. don't expect to do well in his class. trust me.

not helpful at all! however class is pretty easy, depending if you're a good writing. keep in mind to always be on time, or else you'll be screwed over. very boring! seems like he doesnt have a life.

I think he is there because he had nothing better to do with his life not because he enjoys english. Dont bother smileing at him he gives a blank stare. Dont worry about making up an excuse of why your late he wont care. If your bad at grammer I wouldnt recommend even thinking twice about takeing his class he catches ever word!

J Dean is absolutely the most ridiculous, crappy english teacher in the world. Every time a person submits an assignment he marks your paper with the most dumbest comments ever. He doesn't really cover the topic throughly + it's boring. Why take a class like this when you can get a teacher who can ACTUALLY teach you and not make you feel like****.

hes the worst teacher you can get from this school. during class he just bounces back and forth on the same point and his essay grading is extremely strict. the comments he give are pretty much useless crap that doesnt help you in anyway. when you ask him a question in private he just ignores you half the time. go for another prof if you can.

I totally loathe this guy! He assigned a lot of reading and essys to do for HW, but when it came to us doing the exams on what we learned, they were not relevent at all. He hardly cares if you are passing. You can ask for help, but he always comes up with excuses for why he can't help you. Plus, he is a VERY hard grader. Fave grade to give: F.

Sadly, this became the first English class in which i received a B. I was given a recurrent B on my essays throughout the semester with mark downs for things he didn't even specify during class. He emphasizes criteria he will look for in each essay, but everything else is up for criticism. Save your GPA and seek another professor.

Worse professor. Thinking of dropping it. Very uptight and strict. Super tough grader. Bad at lecture. Unclear about what he wants and expects on exams. Loves to waste paper because he prints out so much pointless short stories. Most are about gay relationship, a novel about this gay couple. Class starts at 11 and he takes attendance 10:57

Dean always ended class pretty early, in fact, we barely had class. When we did have class it was for a mere 20 or if we are lucky, 30 minutes. He doesn't teach, so we hardly ever have class, always for a short amount of time, he says its so we cna work on our essays, not much help after class either, grades pretty hard and is unclear on a lot.

Professor Dean is a tough grader. If you plan to take any of his classes be prepared for a tons of papers and feedback on assignments.

Prof. Dean is a really tough grader. He has high standards that are difficult for students to reach. Theres no HW, just essays and a course paper. He gives VERY harsh feedback. If ur not good in english or in writing essays, DONT take his class. He's scary to approach and cuts u off when ur talking. He's a good teacher but his class stressed me out

DONT TAKE HIS CLASS. You will regret it. It is a college level class but he expects ALOT from you, he'll mark u up big time with small errors u done on ur essay. His feedbacks are really harsh. It's only essays, research paper, and a final. I had to drop this class because it was so time consuming that it was affecting my other classes. Just dont!

He is not a good teacher, he does not teach, lets students out early, like we really only have class for 30 mins or less. He doesn't care about students success, instead rather he want to act all tough and mighty, when really he's nothing. Do NOT take his class, it is just not worth all the trouble.

He didn't except my documented essay assignment because I was 30 seconds late to class. That was 25% of my grade just gone. It's really messed up and I hope I never waste my time in his class again.

Never once said that attendance would effect your grade. But if you miss two classes or more you will not pass the class. Does not grade based on your progress but only on his personal high expectations. Lets students out 45 mins to an hour out of class almost every class. Not an understanding person for a professor who doesn't want to be in class

I just droppped his class because it was just way to hard. He really doesn't expect a lot from you with VERY minimal clarification as to what he expects done! Pretty much his way or the high way! DO NOT be late!!!! He took of 20 points from two of my papers for being ONE minute late! I do not recommend this professor at all!!!!

I do not recommend this professor at all for any English class you need. He is the worst possible choice you could ever take. He is not fair, very strict, and most of all a tough grader, and guess what he doesn't even teach you anything. He is the worst, this is also why most all his classes end up being empty. Do NOT take his class at all.

By far the worst professor you could ever take for an English class. He is down right one of the worst professors who is unwilling to help you succeed in his class. It's like he wants you to fail his class. Do not take one of his classes to save your life, you will be glad I said that. He does not teach, lets us leave class early, and doesn't care.

Hardest professor at Ohlone. He is unwilling to help you when you ask and when he does acknowledge your question he rushes to answer it , its almost like he wants you to fail his class. He grades very hard on very assignment. I do not recommend taking this professor. At the end of the semester half the class is gone because they have all dropped.

He is a horrible professor, class started out with a full load of students and then it ended with like 10 students. That is how bad he is, he is absolutely horrible, I do not recommend taking his class. He is so strict and his assignments, even if you are like 1 minute late, he won't accept your paper. Seriously, avoid this professor at all costs!

I would not recommend you to take Professor Dean, he is rude, condescending and overall just a horrible professor. He does not care for his students at all. if you are even a minute late, he will get mad at you. He does not help at all if you go to his office hours and he often cancels class or just lets out class early. Do NOT take his class.

He is by far the worst English professor I had. Very strict on timeliness since he deducted 10 points from my paper just because I was a minute late. He's also a tough grader as well and has high expectations when it comes to papers and in-class essays. Definitely would not recommend this professor.

Do yourself a favor and please dont join his class. Now it may seem my decision could be biased but near the end of the semester, everyone in my class dropped it and the whole class size was down to 8 people including me. That should tell you something. Just don't join that class.

I do not recommend taking this class, he does not care about student success at all. He is a horrible teacher, constantly canceling class or letting class out early. It's like he just doesn't care at all. Do not take him at all, pick a teacher that cares. You'll learn more by self studying or picking a different professor. Drop this class asap.

Professor Dean is so incredibly pretentious. He isn't a good teacher and if you ask him for help don't expect to be helped. On top of the main essay, you will have to complete multiple other essays. I didn't learn anything at all this semester. DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS! It's NOT worth the time or money. If I could give him a 0 on here I would.

Late to his class means less than 10 minutes early, which he technically cant do as per Ohlone guidelines but that wont stop him from stopping class to ridicule you and take off points. He teaches very little but has a lot of group work. Final was an assigned group project/presentation with shared grades so if someone messed up we all got docked.

I was supposed to transfer by the end of my 3rd year but his class delayed me by an entire semester. Every single period and comma, he sticks you up and you must really work for it. I tried really hard, I did, but I had to drop since he wanted the class to write an essay about a presidential constitution. Half of the class dropped and I did too.

I would trade all of my most valuables to go back in time to never take this professor ever again. He assigns papers due in class, if you are ONE minute late, that's 10 points off the assignment. First week of class, 32 enrolled. 3/4's of the term, there are now 7 students. He gives a ton of unnecessary papers that pile up garbage. Doesn't teach.

I understand being strict, but to be so arbitrarily punctual about things is unnecessary. This man didn't accept my research paper (25% of your grade, mind you) because I got to class ONE MINUTE late; and apart from taking such an insipidly tedious and class, you get a monotonous and strict teacher to top it all off. Would NOT recommend.

Less than one third of the class of 30 remained after drop date. That should tell you something. Don't waste your time. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS! For the time and effort you will spend, you will barely learn anything (he barely teaches anything).

It should be noted that I myself am a working educator who needed to take this class to finish my credential program. Because of this, I sometimes have to miss lectures due to my work schedule. This professor not only did not accept that my work schedule would sometimes conflict with class, he actually docked for it after the fact.

He's going to get backlash once the semester ends. I'm calling it

Jeff Dean is the worst teacher i've ever had! Avoid at all costs

His class is so boring and has no fun. He just goes through his word documents every class without pausing for us to take notes. Most of the requirements are oral explanations by him. He is not a patient and kind professor who wants students to pass his class. Some assignments are unnecessary and never take his course again.

His class causes suicide and depression because of useless papers.

He is literally the worst teacher ever DO NOT TAKE JEFF DEAN. He will have you stressed out for no reason the only reason I havent dropped his class is because my parents didnt raise a puto but honestly f%k this guy. He just wastes paper drinks Diet Coke and is always condescending to his students

Jeff Dean is the WORST PROFESSOR at Ohlone College. I got a 0 on an assignment for being 30 seconds late. More than half of the class dropped before the drop date. Do yourself a favor and don't sign up for his class. There are so many better english professors out there.

Dean is an outright disrespectful professor who should not be allowed to teach. His grading system is absolutely ridiculous. I mean really, 10 points off for being ONE SECOND LATE, are you kidding me? Doesn't care about anyone or about your education. He's just an awful teacher all together.

Half the class has dropped so far, he is honestly the worst professor ever. He needs to be reevaluated because he does not know how to teach. I'm not sure why everyone is signing up for his classes, he doesn't even teach, rather he holds 15 minute classes and then ends up canceling them. I understand it's a lot of work in 101A, which is a 4 unit class. But P. Dean however treats it like it's a 10+ unit class. There is so much work in his class. He wastes lots of paper with meaningless assignments. He also is very tough when it comes to grading. Unfortunately,I cannot recommend any student to take Professor Dean.

If he is the only professor available, you're better off waiting till next semester to take someone else. You will not learn anything from Professor Dean! This guy gave me the recommendation to drop his class myself before he did it, just because he thinks my writing skill is awful. Dear Mr. Dean, if my English is as good as native people, do you think I put my ass in your class?

Professor Dean is possibly the worst instructor I've encountered at Ohlone. He doesn't care about your success in his class at all, he'll simply tell you to drop the class if you aren't doing well. Quite possibly the worst instructor this college could hire. He doesn't care about students success, his goal is not to help students or see them succeed, his goal is to see them fail. He is the worst instructor, do not take him at all costs. There are much better instructors you could take. This one is horrible, he doesn't even teach.

Completely unfair professor. He perfectly fits the stereotype of a community college teacher who feels underappreciated by students, and as a result, takes his frustration out on them. Rude to the few students who actually listen to him, making us lose respect for him. I am an A student and this is the first and only C I have ever gotten.

I do not recommend taking this professor at all, avoid at all costs! He is very unhelpful, makes his class super hard, you lose points if you're late, and the exams are super tough. On top of that, he grades tougher than any other professor. Stay away from Jeff Dean. Do not sign up for his class, he sets his students up for failure.

He's straight forward on how strict he is and his expectations. But recently, I was so tired of finishing a large essay & studying for our quiz, my head fell down for a quick sec & he kicked me out. I went back when class ended to apologize & asked if I could take the quiz, he said no. My whole night spent on THAT quiz wasted. Now idk if i'll pass.

I suggest to find other professors. I stayed because I had to. I spent 17 hours on an essay in one day (not including the time I used to prepare) only to fail it. I lost more than half of my point bc of technical issues. Ppl have been marked down bc there were grammatical issues in QUOTES, I even followed his own samples and I was marked down.

Dean is one of the hardest professors on this campus. He does not teach, yet he grades so hard and often would let class out earlier. I dropped his class because of how hard his grading is and I do not recommend taking him for any English class. He is the WORST when it comes to teaching and half the class has already dropped the class, stay clear!!

He makes you feel bad about yourself, unecessary attitude, whole class doesn't even know grade(makes us calculate it), very biased useless amount of papers, doesn't teach, more than half the class failed/dropped(8 students left in class). The class itself is not hard, it's just him. He's a terrible teacher. DO. NOT. TAKE. HIS. CLASS.

Although I was fortunate enough to pass Deans class with a B, I will say that he is not the best professor. His grading is very harsh, his feedback may be explicit but very negative, and hes not very considerate of students well being. He will also not allow you to make up any late work even if you notify him you wont be able to make it to class.

Complete utter waste of time and money. Dean makes you work harder than you would usually. He always assigns a lot of writing assignments. He ends class early a lot. He does not engage with students like my current English professor does. That's what I look for in an instructor. Like everyone else said, DO NOT CHOOSE PROFESSOR DEAN.

I do not recommend this professor at all. He does not teach you anything nor does he really even hold classes. He always continually lets class out early, to the point sometimes it is like why bother coming to class? If you need to take this class, take it with someone else, there are much better professors out there that actually teach and care.

He is not understanding nor does he give you the option of personal help. If you consider office hours personal help, like me, then avoid his office because he is harsh and inflexible with his schedule. He is very hard to approach too. No textbook required so he prints out tons of handouts, lectures are long - this is where he shows examples, and what he expects which is why you should attend every class. It's good to have a friend in the class to fill you in however there are high chances they're just as lost. More than half my class dropped. Many said he was condescending.

this guy was very demoralizing and very rude... he is an angry gay man. he treats everyone like garbage and probably pretends he teaches at yale... junior college is to learn for real college... not already know... or the class is useless.

Professor really does not teach. He hands out at least 3 handout papers before the class starts and just uses it as his lecture. He is very rude when you are asking for help and does not care to give a clear explanation for assignments. He gives out your grade for your assignments but you do not know your overall grade until the end of the course.

Awful teacher. His lectures are so boring and seem to start from the first grade english level. We had a whole lecture about commas. Also, you cannot be late! If you are a minute late that could cost you your whole grade and he will really tell you to drop the class to your face with absolutely zero sympathy, even if you have a reason/emergency..

All I can say is that his reading quizzes take a huge toll on your grade. I could've easily passed this class with an A if i didn't fail those. If you want to fall asleep to this diet coke drinking professor have fun!

He teaches a basic English class like we're all going to be English majors, and gives really difficult essays to write without really explaining how to write them properly. Attendance is mandatory because he gives a bunch of handouts and quizzes, and puts you down for missing class. No remorse, no empathy at all. Don't take his class

He is not a good professor, as evidenced by the other negative evaluations. He only goes over things he has previously placed on Canvas. When you ask for advice, you can sense he doesn't want to be there since he's really dull and not as perceptive. He'll literally hand you pages he's handed out in the past to 'assist'.

he gives a lot of essays with only at least 9-10 assignments in total with 7 of them being essays. he doesnt teach well and dont take his class if you are prepared to write in class essays and fail. take keitaro taguchi

It was a dark traumatic experience being with this professor. Stay away from this professor at all costs, he grades tougher than any other professor in the campus. it was also evident that he put nasty feedback on my paper which is very unprofessional and because of that I have to drop the class. I wish I never had him.

The class is pretty much a 1 hour 30 minute long lecture with questions at the very end. There is never any group work or participation activities so the class is so boring. It's so hard to concentrate and his teaching style is very bland. Please do not make the mistake of taking this class!

I started out in a full class and by the end there was only about 9 of us.When i was telling my counselor about the classes i was taking I mentioned his name and he apologized that i had to go through that. No matter how much effort I put in it, He can always find imperfect parts and graded it as low as possible. Never encouraged me, just asked me to read syllabus. I'd advise anyone to stay away from this professor and any class he may teach. The way he teaches, assign assignments, and grades, isn't something you want to figure out last minute. Genuinely one of the worst professors I have ever had. Selected the hilarious option because it's actually a joke that he is still an instructor at an institution at any level.

Harsh grading. You have to be overly critical of your writing and actively seek feedback to improve. Communication feels awkward and difficult due to the profs cold personality. This class helps you improve significantly, but the class can feel excessive if you are only taking this for credits. I would only advise this prof for english majors.

I did not take this class but agree with my friend do not take this class this is a very hard class and stressful everything on paper and do not know grade until end of the semester lots of work very hard, he is the worst teacher to have stay away and if he teaches any other class, do not take this class take taguchi he is the best not this class.

Professor Dean is a very hard instructor, my recommendation to anyone who is planning to take his class in the future is to focus on his instructions in the first couple weeks of the semester. That is a period of time where he is going to give the most information about grading, deadlines, what to expect, and what he is looking for in your writing
