He was a very good teacher for this class. Interesting discussions, good facilitator.
Cool professor who knew his stuff. Kept class fun and interesting with group work!
this dude is funny. and he knows his****
amazing class. i look foward to going everyday. haven't had that many classes with him yet but he is so funny and it's easy to pay attention. he craks jokes all the time too. really funny guy.
Awesome, funny, great! :D
Great lecturer. Funny guy who is very informative.
He is a great, dynamic and entertaining teacher. Pay attention to what he says b/c his tests can be hard, but you will enjoy his class not matter what your grade ends up being.
Jeff is FUNNY and generally AWESOME!! Plus if you are sick of pseudo-science like intelligent design, he will happily give it a kick in the ass, and let you watch. :)
jeff is decent, not amazing, not by any stretch of the imagination bad. I would reccomend him.
Not helpful, does not care to explain things well.
Dunk is a great instructor, he manages to get across the course material for a ldge class in an interesting and entertaining way. I recommend him highly.
Very funny. Great lectures that are interesting and informative. His books are not textbooks so they are afforable and are interesting reads. He made this class a blast and a great learning experience.
I recommend Dunk. He's an amazing lecture and keeps the class interesting, all he asks of youis to read 4 books (not text books, so they're interesting), attend class, and take excellent notes. If you do this you should be able to pass the class easily. Get to know him as a person, if you can, he's really cool. Final is optional.
best teacher i've had. hilarious and smart. fair tests, but you gotta go to class and take notes. doesn't rely on text very much.
Professor Dunk takes a not-so-exciting subject and makes it wonderfully interesting! He is informative and very funny. He makes you work, but he also makes it interesting. Some of the books you have to read kind of aren't fun, but some are very interesting. Overall, AWESOME professor!
jeff is a great funny guy but if you dont go to his class, you arent going to learn the material. the test comes straight from his brain and you dont really needthe text, although it probably does help.any classes he teaches are sure to be interesting/fun. plus, he wears vests. TAKE HIS CLASSES!
You will probably not find an easier teacher than Jeff. There's no tests, assigned homework is only reading and take some notes, and a self-presentation. The notes were taken so you can share your thoughts in his discussion. Jeff is super cool, smart and funny. I pay him with all my respect.
very energetic about the topic, so makes the classes exceedingly interesting!!! tests are based on lecture so need to attend every class, even if he doesn't take roll...
Good class for slackers but dont take this class if you have an interest in learning anything. I couldnt stand being there is was so easy, an insult. He doesn't seem to care about his students at all. Good selection of books but we did not even discuss them in class. Don't take this class even if you have to.
Just an amazing teacher. Makes the classes fun and very interesting. He is a character, always has a joke and class was always a good time. Not to hard on tests, if you study you will do fine. I highly recommend taking any class he teaches. You learn a lot of good material without too much academia.
I jump out of bed in the morning to go to this class!!!
interesting but a little fast at times, and has an odd way of relaying points (sarcasm)
i spent most of my time in his class trying to ignore his egotistical bad jokes, which is why i was never able to figure out what he was talking about. if he ever wrote notes on the board i might have been able to figure out what his class was about.
Great teacher. Cares about what he teaches. He has an ego but it adds to the class. His tests aren't too easy, so make sure to study. Regardless of test scores you will learn a lot. I recommend this class.
What a great teacher. He is very enthusiastic about what he is teaching and does a great job relating it to the class. Test can be hard, just need to study everything. Definitively recommended!!
great guy. all the funny things you hear are probably true. in a class of 90 or so, he knew my name.
If you are a science major you will find this class a joke. I found it basically went hand in hand with my upper level Wildlife class. Its all of the science you will learn in an upper level, but its the lowest common denominator stuff. Super easy
This class is not all the science you will learn in an upper level, as another reviewer suggested. Upper level science is much more detailed than this class. Overall, this is was an informative class and Dunk is a really good lecturer and brings his own research into his lectures to give you more real-life information.
he is one of the funniest guys ive ever met, but his class is soooo hard to pass. i struggled a lot and when i thought i did good on a test i still ended up failing it.
Reguardless of what anyone may say about this class being a challenge, just remember, it is considered a GE class so don't hold the Prof. responsible for going over over previously learned material. This guy should have been a comedian if not a teacher. His lectures will leave you inquisitive and yearning for more. He's better than sliced bread!
Tough class if you don't study much. Make sure to read all books, doesn't take long. Mini Midterms are kinda ridiculous, you will get a lower grade than you think. His lectures are funny, but he's cocky. Research paper is odd, it's limited to two pages but you have to have 20 sources :/ Good class, not recommended if your just looking for GE creds
Besides the books he assigns, he tests completely off lectures. The problem with this is that his lectures aren't clear and he will often times go off on tangents. His kinda goofy clown style should not be confused with easy, if you write how he talks, you will fail.
Seriously, this is the easiest class you will ever take at HSU. Lecture consists of you sitting their and listening to classmates give presentations about their lives (you do one as well). Discussion is reading two books and making journal entries. You also write 5 short little papers. Again, this is most likely the easiest class at HSU.
Easiest class I had, and the most fun to go to by far. Jeff is funny, and seriously, just write down what he puts on the board and you'll have stellar notes for the tests. He's my favorite teacher yet, and the class material isn't too hard to understand. Oh, but read the books; you'll answer 1 test question on them every time! (more than 1 point)
Very funny teacher and easy class, however you must study. test questions can be random and based on one number. five books assigned that must be read. the mini terms are ridiculous as there are four of them. entertaining class, yet you will get a lower grade than you think.
Jeff is a great teacher and really inspires enthusiasm for the subject- also, he's totally attractive.
Jeff Dunk is awesome. You could sell tickets to his class. But watch out! Everything he says (including jokes) are important to remember for tests. Take good notes and enjoy.
Dunk is clear, organized, and highly entertaining. I found the class to be too easy, but I still learned quite a bit. Attendance mandatory, as the tests are on the lectures, with a single essay question about a short novel.
What a joke of a teacher, if your a hot chick take his class, if your a good-looking guy it seems like he gets jealous and grades you a lot harder. He jokes for about 20 mins out of a 50 minute lecture, so if you want to learn things that will not help you later on, such as mining laws that have not been in effect for decades then sign up.
dunk is THE man!
I loved Jeff Dunk's Class. As everyone has said, you have to listen to his lectures in order to do well in his class. I had a friend who had much better knowledge of resource conservation than I did coming into the semester. So, he didn't attend class as often and I did. I got an A and he got a C. Loved this class.
If you don't have a sense of humor, especially about religion, stay out of his class. If you take good notes (even the jokes - you'll know which ones) then you'll pass for sure. The quizzes are easy. He wants you to read the books (there's 5, but not that hard or long) but it's not necessary. He is really entertaining which is a relief at 9am.
Amazing class and a great teacher. He will make you think without lecturing at all, yes I said it he does not lecture. There is 3 novels to read, which are easy and useful and a few simple papers. You learn much about peers and about current relevant events.Interesting class with no busy work. I highly reccomend this class to anyone for Area E!
I cannnot stand this guy, he has the biggest ego. He is condescending and patronizing- he treats us like we know nothing. I did not learn very much either. But...most ppl like him so maybe it's just me.
Learned so much! Love this guy!
I really enjoyed Jeff's class. I actually looked forward to going, even though it was at 9 am. I laughed the entire time. I look forward to taking emp 400 with him next semester
Funny guy. Sometimes gets distracted with telling stories and forgets to lecture. He assigns novels instead of a textbook, all great reads. No study guides but exams are all based on lecture so take lots of notes.
Dunk is a great Teacher/Biologist/Human. He really provokes our developing brains to synthesize cohesive thoughts that can better prepare us for the 'big world'. Very interesting readings, discussions, and assignments. A role-model for many, a great teacher to all.
Jeff might be one of the best teachers on campus. They could rename this class democrat 101. Just worship the syllabus and you will get an A.
Jeff is an amazing teacher. He is really funny and made me want to get up for this 9am class. His tests are not hard if you go to lecture. He is very passionate and I would recommend this class to anyone interested in the environment.
Great teacher!! Only class I have ever actually enjoyed going to. He makes the lectures funny while still learning a lot. Take good notes and attend class every day in order to pass with a good grade. Tests are based solely upon his lectures.
Dunk is very good at breaking down complex concepts into an easier understanding. Be sure to keep up with the book readings and attend every lecture because he has random pop quizzes that count for your grade and theres a bunch of exams in the class strictly based on his lectures. He's one of the most entertaining and one of my favorite profs!
Dunk is the best. Public land law isn't the most captivating of subject but his lectures are the best. He had my laughing half the time and it helped me to stay focused. The material isn't difficult, do the work , don't skimp on effort and you will be fine. One of my favorite teachers.
His class was really entertaining and his lectures are really funny. It was really hard to study for the tests, though because you never knew what he was going to test you on.
I will not take any more classes with Dunk and this is why: 1) Miss more than three unexcused absences you automatically fail. 2) Most of the class you do not even cover relevant material, he is mostly on a tangent. 3) Some of his test question are ridiculous: may be about some joke he made. 4) readings are unnecessary. skim the book and sparknote
Jeff Dunk was my MWF 9am in the BSS. Attendance was very mandatory to pass. That being said it was worth the early morning hike, even in the rain, to go to lecture. Jeff was always a load of fun, cracking jokes the whole hour. Show up, take SOLID notes, study the notes for exams, turn in the single paperbdue and you will walk out with an A.
There are a few teachers who really make a difference in your life and this is one of them. I was never bored in his lectures, coming from some one with medical ADD, and the tests were easy. He makes note taking easy as well and tests on what's in lecture. There are 5 small books to read that are actually interesting.
Dunkie is the best! I really like that this teacher is hilarious and is a true challenge when it comes to test taking. He doesn't give you a study guide so it is super important that you take great notes and are paying full attention when you do come to class. He is really good intentioned but his test are kind of out of nowhere but DEF TAKE DUNK.
Jeffrey Dunk is a great teacher. His lectures are easy to follow and have a lot of humor sprinkled in. He was very helpful when I spoke to him after class from time to time. His test require studying and attendance really makes a difference in how you'll do on the tests. That said, if you put in a reasonable amount of effort, you will do well.
We all love Jeff Dunk, but this was my least favorite class this semester. We didn't get any graded assignments back (save the first midterm, which a bunch of people failed) until the week before finals, and so had no idea how we were doing. He grades HARSHLY. Prepare to put in a lot of work for little reward.
Professor Dunk is a great lecturer. He's funny, keeps you engaged, and clearly knows his stuff. Attendance is huge. His exams are short answer, and specificity matters. I absolutely love this class, and dunk. I hope I get to take another class with him. If you show up, take goos notes and study well you'll pass no problem.
Professor Dunk is easily the most knowledgeable and entertaining teacher I have ever had the fortune of learning from. *This comes from someone who attended 2 high schools (1 of which was ranked top-10 in the country) and 2 colleges (1 ranked in top-50) where I had a lot of amazing teachers. Professor Dunk is my all-time favorite, without a doubt
Best professor at HSU!
One of the most captivating and entertaining classes I've been in. Dunk does a great job keeping the lecture relevant and interesting, I was not bored once in his class. He is really funny and makes class fun so you want to learn. Tests are all very simple and short answer, allowing you to explain yourself. Highly recommend EMP 105!
Dunk is so far the best lecturer I have had here so far. His tests are pretty tricky but you just have to be there and attentive to succeed. He is a very funny guy with a lot of outside life experience. As for the books that he requires, you can get away without them as long as you spark note it before hand.
Interesting lectures that won't bore you. He cares about his students doing well, & is passionate about spreading knowledge. He tells you what he expects to pass. There are 5 small, interesting books to read, a two-page paper, four small exams & done - the exam questions can be a little specific sometimes, but take good notes & you'll be good!
Not a lecture style course. Course is based on one presentation (of oneself), short essays, discussion participation and journal. We, the students, were able to discuss towards readings & videos and led conversations in directions that we valued. Jeff Dunk is definitely a gem, who cares about creating a space for learning and academic growth. :)
Dunk, he hard and makes you work for your grade. If you think you can skip class or mess around and not study think again, his tests are hard hard hard. But he respects you and cares if you pass and do well. He is a great guy and his lectures are fun, and interesting. you learn a lot and if you study very hard you will pass no problem.
He is great. It's an easy A. There are 5 100ish page books you're supposed to read but can spark notes before each test. He is hilarious and a caring prof. I highly recommend. No study guides given, just have to study your notes before each exam. Surprise clicker quizzes (easy) and daily attendance taken. Miss 4 days and you fail automatically.
Jeff Dunk is hands-down the funniest and most entertaining professor I've ever had, and that's important since his 210 class is ridiculously lecture-heavy (no group activities, no field trips, etc) so his humor will help you stay awake and learn the material. As a hunter he jokes too much about vegans, but otherwise I can't say anything bad at all.
He is the kind of professor you hope to get in college. being in a community college for a while, it was very unmotivating. His class (policy and Law) could just be another poli sci class; but the way he teaches he really puts himself into the lectures. hes hilarious, inspirational, and honestly I look forward to the days where I have him.
Took mandatory intro to env mngmt class that covered material I had already learned in other classes. Prof demanded that everyone drop $80 on a clicker so that he could take attendance. I would have never shown up if he wasn't using mandatory attendance to determine 30% of the grade. As it stands, he didn't say anything new all semester. Easy pass.
I am so bummed I never got a chance to take Dunk's classes sooner. A professor who really cares. Who knew someone can make public land policy super exciting?! Very interesting class. Book is not required but I highly recommend it, it really helps with the exams.
Great lectures, not much homework. Take notes, show up and do some light review daily, will be an easy class.
If you want a teacher who never post the lectures, never uses canvas, and cracks jokes instead of teaches take his classes. He'll spend 30 mins making really bad dad jokes and 20 mins hardly teaching. The readings he assigns aren't related to the lectures. Also he doesn't even know what his talking about half the time
Jeff gives great lectures, is experienced in the field, and wants you to be understanding this material. He's a great professor with a lot of information about what he's teaching you and all of the information really correlates with each other. Make sure you're taking great notes and are ready to read all of the books that he tells you to.
Very experienced in the field. Records engaging lectures. Bi-weekly discussion posts are easy points. Quizzes were easy if you take great notes and studied the material. Final was optional. Law project and conservationist profiles were fun! Funny guy. Keeps his humor despite the virtual format.
Great in-person lecturer, never boring, and has a lot of personal experience with natural resources research/management. He makes a genuine effort to get to know his students, even in lecture-based classes that don't require much participation.
He's a great professor that talks a lot about his own work as an environmental scientist to illustrate how these things we learned are used in the real world. Very funny and attendance is important if you want to pass.
J Dunk is a great guy. Dad jokes for days. Protect him at all costs.
Does little to promote diversity in both the readings and viewpoints he presents, and uses class time to prep for a stand-up show that no one would attend.
Greatest professor of all time! He takes the time to not only lecture students, but to make sure that every student succeeds. He also gets to know students outside of class and listens to their stories, which is an admirable quality. This professor goes the extra mile to help everyone out not only in school but in life as well! Absolute legend!
Taking this class online rn. I LOVE this man!! He cares and is an amazing lecturer. 5 interesting books, one annotated bibliography, 5 quizzes, 1 final. I cannot recommend him enough. He has lots of teaching experience plus did plenty of research in the field so the 2 things combined make for a great professor who is there for his students.
I recommend this professor 100%. Quizzes are based on lectures, so if you study, you'll pass. The annot. bibl. is not bad, but time consuming. I love his lectures, bc they're interesting; I learned a lot. I am happy to take ESM200 with him in person next sem! If you're looking for a GREAT professor and a COOL class that is not difficult, 105 is it!
One of those profs you will remember 20 yrs from now. I loved 200 and 105 very much. Interesting readings, subject-matter, discussions, student presentations. Journals are a little laborious so do them week by week to keep up with them. Attendance worth lots of pts so don't miss class! And you won't want to, anyways, bc he is a super chill prof.
This class is pretty easy as long as you keep up with the assignments which usually don't take too long to complete and there's never more than one a week. Super great lecturer, funny, engaging, tries to connect to his students. Would definitely take him again for my upper level courses.
I ADORED going to Lecture and hearing from the Dunk. Jeff helped me really realize that what I had to say, mattered. I am so excited to take his ESM 210 class next fall. Absolutely an all-star of a professor. Just don't miss class! You'll need to be there. But, you'll love being there.
For the first few months I didn't like him. He's a little weird because he doesn't always listen to students- cutting them off or telling his own joke/story. He will also talk about you in front of the class. But he's funny if you like him, and the class is easy.
Jeffery was a wonderful professor. He demonstrated a passion for his knowledge and delivered his lectures well. I found his topics to be interesting. He also is quite funny, which makes lectures more interesting and engaging. Be sure to take thorough and good notes for the exams.
