He seems intimidating & tries to scare students, but if you follow his directions precisely, you can't go wrong. While in the class, I was panicking about his midterm & final but it was the same stuff we covered over & over in class. Overall, great class
The best teacher I had at SJSU. I loved listening to his lectures! I did not feel like I was even in class because it was fun and very interesting!
Could have done without some of his opinions. If I wanted those, I would watch one of the news channels. Catalog said the class was about marketing for developing nations. I am pretty sure there are more developing than just those in Africa.
He's fun
Fun...taught me to look at learning in a new light. Still trying to figure out the marketing angle.
I don't care about going to africa, what does that have to do with marketing???
This guy is a joke! Dont take him unless you have to. He plays favoritism in his class and talks more about africa than about marketing. Trust me in that you will NOT get a fair grade. He shoots the**** with his teachers pets and if ur not one ur done.
Africa,Africa,Africa,Africa.....all the way in the semester. If you have no interested in Afr. at all, avoid this class. He's affectionate..but maybe too affectionate. He's an "okay" professor.
This class was very entertaining. He tells a lot of stories which makes the class fun. Tests were all essays but if you are there for his lectures it will be easy to BS them.
Alright..he overdid the Africa bit. But, I concur wholeheartedly in his analyses of how ignorant we are in terms of foreign affairs. My biggest criticism of him is he gives top grade to good looking women irrespective of intelligence. Is also subtly ****.
I can't believe some students wrote those negative comments about Prof.Fadiman! They must be the ignorant ones he critisized in class. He was the best! One midterm +almost identical final! The class is extremely easy & VERY interesting! His lectures are priceless.Take his class,it can change your life!
africa africa when this is supposed to be about asia, horrible teacher and plays favoritism.
he totally plays up to his kiss ass teacher's pets. Does grade hard, very precise about what he wants, demeans students in class in front of everyone, rags on how stupid his other classes are and all the other sjsu teachers. Could be a little more helpful and a lot less of an ****. **** this guy.
hope you like africa, cu thats all you're going to hear for a whole semester. So repeticious, total dick to his students, very arrogant, makes you buy his own book, assigns books you'll never read, clowns students in class in front of everyone and extremely anal on tests.did i mention he was a dick?
HORRIBLE TEACHER!!! soooo arrogant and demeaning to other students and teachers. Pushes his political views on students, you have to buy his book..convieniant huh? and out of the 6 books you need to buy you'll only need to read a small portion. THIS TEACHER F'n SUCKS ASS!!!!!!
The WORST TEACHER IVE EVER HAD!!!! all he does is talk about F'n africa for a whole semester and expects you to know the smallest details about every country in Africa. Really arrogant, tsays he's the only published teacher when he's not, makes fun of HIS students in class, talks s**t about his grad students, sjsu, teachers and everyone else...
Hi Professor AFRICA!!!! I would have to agree with everybody else. All he knows is AFRICA and he does make fun of people. No matter what he say, he won't listen to you and will make your life miserable in his class. Hard to get by this class and he does take attendance every single class meeting. KEEP AWAY!!!
I took his marketing in third world countries class. Though he's pretty strict when it comes to grading, he's not bad. You always come out of class learning something new. Just know he's a little overconfident. Hint: You don't need to read any of the books. Just pay attention in class.
This is one of a handful of teachers I will remember at SJSU. If you don't respect professors or are lazy, don't bother. He can share with you a lot of first-hand accounts in Africa and other places. Very interesting and inspiring.
You won't fall asleep in this class! If you can accept the ego and know you are going to learn something about the world - this is the BEST class to take. Take his comments in knowing it is for shock value. Just to the work. You probably wouldn't listen in class anyway if it was boring.
Fadiman is bad news! He's hostile, arrogant and sadistic and attacks his students during class. The reason his ratings here are either very good or very bad is because he rates himself on this website. His ratings are good but the student ratings are bad. He's a typical lawyer - very sneaky and dishonest.
Avoid this loser! All he knows about is Africa and he can't teach anything else. He regularly makes fun of his students in class. He sucks!
Fadiman is a synonym for the word exaggeration. You will not learn**** in this class, however I got an A. the only thing you need to do is answer his tests with what he wants to hear. Hypocrisy? Well at least it got me an A.
this teacher is very strict on english (grammar and structure of writings). I was actually quite shocked to see that this teacher is very broadly educated. He knows much about what he speaks of. However, I'd say... 'don't take the class if you don't show up for classes and/or if you don't take time to read before exams'. good unusual topics
He's an odd fellow. Nice though for the mostpart but a little quirky. His advice is excellent but his exams are hard to do if you're stuck on writing a 5 paragraph essay. I learned a lot about myself and other countries but I'm not sure how well I did in the class yet. I did BAD on the map tests! If I had to grade him, I'd give him a B-.
This teacher is one that doesn't bs around. He knows what he knows and he's very confident of his views. He does have research to back it up however. If you're not gonna miss classes and you're not sleeping in class... it shouldn't be too difficult of a course. But, do make sure that you're english writing is decent.

Great professor. If you want to learn about the business practices of the Pacific Rim then take this class. Just keep in mind geography is important and follow his writing rules.
This was the most difficult class I ever took. I studied so hard but it was still very difficult because I had to write essays on the exams exactly in his style. Not enough time for non-native English writer. Very picky grader. He talked so fast that made it difficult to take good notes.
Education=Change..remember that when you take his class because he will make u change the way you think about things. One of the few..ok, the only teacher that I really enjoyed at SJSU. As far as midterms N finals...he will cover that in the class lecture so be prepared to take GOOD notes. A+++++++++++++++
This professor is horrible. He doesn't teach you techniques to follow if you are to market to Pacific Rim, rather he teaches you about how to bribe, how to drink with Japanese businessmen. Such a waste of time. very hard grader. His class is worse than high school classes. If you are absent you loose participation points and you miss the map test.
LOVED THE CLASS!HE SAYS THINGS AS IT IS! WE HARDLY USED THE TEXTBOOK. STUDYING FOR THE TEST ARE SOO EASY. JUST READ YOUR NOTES AND YOU WILL ACE THE TESTS! DOWNSIDE : HAVING TO MEET WITH YOUR PARTNER FOR SEVERAL SESSIONS AFTER SCHOOL TO COMPLETE A PAPER. UPSIDE ITS AN EASY CLASS AND YOU MEET GREAT PEOPLE! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
one of the worst prof. in SJSU. if you are a good student and care for GPA, avoid him. your effort will be wasted and you will end up getting C.
Fadiman is one of the most interesting teachers Ive had so far. no use of textbooks, just take notes, read the newspaper and know whats going on around you. It was interesting and I learned more of him than all the other teachers that semester. kinda hard to write final exam though, bc he is strict on how u write it and my english arent fluent..
His lectures are full of energy and emotion, but I could have done without his mood swings. He snaps at students and sometimes he is downright scary. In a way he was easy, but the hard part is changing the way you think. He demands you to write and think a certain way but in the end you will leave a changed person. Follow his rules = B or better.
Worst professor ever. You only have a final, a midterm and a paper. No multiple choice questions.Very hard grader. Gives you the paper back to rewrite, but does not change your grade. You do not learn anything from his class except for how to bribe and drink with the Japanese men. He takes attendance every class time like we are in HS. Dont take hi
Great class! If you show up, ask questions, and follow his rules you will get at least B. Participation is 25%. The 2 tests are pretty easy. Besides the paper, this class requires almost no outside effort, just GO TO CLASS. This was probably the most interesting business class I have taken! The people that write bad reviews probably missed classes.
may be misleading. He may make you think ur an A student and then hand over a B. I learned alot about contries but would have preferred a better grade. However, class is entertaining enough and easy to get a B. Read at least half of the book from the books that he offers
-Plain Horrible. Either you write things EXACTLY how he wants or he docks you BIG time for your mistakes. Not even my literature or English classes were this strict. Gets bad mood swings and makes you think you are an A student then back stabs you with a bad grade in the end.
This class opens your eyes to the real world. Be sure to never miss a class, b/c everything he covers will be tied to the Midterm and Final. I'm not sure why people thought he was moody. His approach is direct, but he is very fair and lenient on grading. You DO need to follow his structure on essays though, and make few mistakes on your essays.
if he doesnt like you, your screwed. Is power-mad! He acts all cool in the beginning so you don't drop then turns into the most pointless class ever
He is one of probably 2 or 3 professors who actually care about his students. He gives interesting lectures and he's definitely not boring. You do have to participate and have good handwriting, but that only prepares you for your career. He also doesn't make you purchase textbooks, just small books that are less than $10 and a course reader.
The books and his lecture will open your eyes to how things work in Africa and the Middle East. If you apply what you learn into the actual classroom setting and into your papers, you will do well. He's not boring, he's not a schmuck that just reads from lecture notes, he's got an actual personality. Some might see that as abrasive- they're losers.
Third World Marketing is one of only two MBA courses I remember fondly. It still cracks me up the amount of time he took to write out his entire agenda prior to the start of class. The thing is you always knew what he was going to talk about. I went to Africa on his suggestion and had a blast. He knows his stuff.
I wish I took this prof for my other marketing electives! If you're in marketing take this prof. He will "educate" you on real world bus not the textbook BS...BTW he doesn't believe in textbooks either just useful guides aka cheap yet reliable reads. Is a bit full of himself but I would be too! Learn to use eating, drinking, & smoking as bus tools!
INCREDIBLE PROFESSOR. Must attend class. 1 midtmerm, 1 5pg paper w/partner, 1 final. Ask questions, go to office hours, he wants to help you! Difficult at first but HE WILL MAKE YOU BETTER if you let him! He will teach you how to business write! He will open your eyes to not only other cultures but U.S. culture as well! TAKE JEFF!!
Hope you know your geography and are a great writer! Makes you draw maps and talks to you like you're a complete idiot. Must show up to class, he takes attendance every day. Grades: 25% attendance 25% midterm 25% term paper (done in groups of 2) and 25% final.
No achievements are easy. Except in universities theses days where there are exam guides, exam tips, scheduled class topics, and multiple choices. No more critical thinking, no more good writing, no more real world studies. To achieve something great, don't take shortcuts. Fadiman helps you be great. We need more Fadimans.
This is one of the most interesting teachers I have come across. He is not a tough grader if you just follow exactly what he tells you to do. You will learn a lot in his class and may use it one day if you travel abroad. You must goto class and be on time because he will give his map quiz every time. Two major tests and one paper is all there is.
I have never written a comment for ratemyprofessors.com, but Fadiman I did. Seriously you will either love him or hate him, but I guarantee you this: You will learn A LOT! And you will learn so much relevant information that a textbook could not teach you. He's bold, and at first intimidating, but in the end, I ended up loving him. Best prof here
Fadiman is an excellent professor. The only thing different about him than other prof is that he doesnt use a textbook, and lectures based on his personal experience. 1 midterm, 1 final and 1 5-page paper. Hes a really tough grader, and grades different than other prof. I got an A in Eng 1A,B and C, and he gave me a C on my papers. hes helpful tho.
GREAT professor. A bit tough on grading. Make sure you know how to write in BUSINESS AMERICAN WRITING style. Look it up online how to write that way prior to the first midterm. This class is all based on notes and lecture. 1 Midterm and 1 Final, all of which are essay question only. One easy 5 page paper. Def recommend for Business 130
Jeff is really awesome! He can be full of himself, but he does have a lot to teach when it comes to the real world since he has sooo much Intl' experience. There's 1 midterm, 1 final, no h.w.! Go to every class bc it's worth 25% of your grade! Also, take notes on his lectures. He WILL repeat himslef, it just makes things easier to remember. A+prof!
Professor Fadiman is the best professor I've had at SJSU. He is very passionate about what he teaches. He doesn't teach straight from a publishers slides or textbook, he actually teaches real world skills and applicable knowledge necessary for the marketing field and life. You're really missing out if you don't take at least one of his classes.
If you are looking for an easy A, take someone else. He is not the traditional teacher, he teaching things that you can use in business not from a text book. If you attend class, take good notes, and just follow his instructions you will do fine.
He may be a best teacher ever! His lecture is a little bit different from others. It's more practical and insightful. One midterm exam, one group project, and final. He gives many pop quiz but it's not difficult. Mostly, the pop quiz are map test. He teaches not the theory but how to do in real business situation, how to prepare.
He is a great teacher with hands on examples. He is always there to talk to you and loves comunnicating with students. He is extremely serious about learning everyones names so that he can treat you like a human and not a Number like most other teachers. even though I didnt get an A I still think I actually learned in his class.
This is the best professor I've ever had. He's created a class that teaches you real world tools to survive in the international marketplace. Things like building trust relationships and bribery not common in the U.S. but necessary anywhere else. He's easy to talk to, go to his office hours Map quizzes, 1 midterm, 1 Final, 1 group paper. Great clas
Jeff is an incredible professor. I took a 2 hour 45 min night class with him and never got bored. Funny real life stories. All exams are essay format, which he will give you exact instructions for how he wants it. Inspirational guy. Not an "easy A" but go to class and pay attention
a delightful person to talk to but a horrible teacher IMO. The reason people would retake him is he talks about the same thing (meaning, if you take him the 2nd time then it's easy A). Instructions are not clear; only gives you clarification AFTER the assignments are graded. With the 25/each rule, say bye to an A if you did poorly on the first one
Obscure instructions! Show favoritism towards his return students. If you don't write in EXACTLY the way he wants you to, he will gives you a bad grade. Each writer's style is different but he doesn't appreciate that, you must follow EXACTLY what he likes to read. Boring lectures since he repeats the same thing all the time.
1 paper, many map quizzes, 1 midterm, and Final but extremely unclear instructions. He wants you to write in a certain way. He doesn't believe in textbooks so he lectures the entire class. Attendance is mandatory. His lectures are entertaining most of the time. He's got great personality and passion for teaching, but I wouldn't take him again.
Dr. Fadiman is the best professor in the business school. He's always there to help and not only does he want you to get an A but wants you to be successful after college. Always there to talk to you and help you better your communication and international business skills. Don't listen to these dumb people complaining about tough grading he's easy.
Best professor ever!! Amazing man who really inspires students. Really makes you want to come to this class. Watch out for pop quizzes and you will learn how to draw maps. Nice class! And you don't need a textbook just some small little but very interesting books(cheap).
Fadiman is the best professor I've taken at SJSU. His lectures are hilarious and based on real life experiences. If you're an Int'l/ Mkting major, you should definitely take his class cuz he gives great advice. Don't skip class, you will not pass! His term paper is easy if you follow instructions . Midterm and final consist of 3-4 short answers.
Best professor at SJSU. You will learn a ton. Class is lecture style with heavy participation involve. It's an easy class just do the work. Gives plenty of opportunities for help. Truly wants all his students to pass.
As a graduating senior, I took his class. I loved every moment of it. He is an international man with a no nonsense, low-context method of communication. You learn a lot of history in this class because knowing the histories of countries will help you become a better marketer. I wish all teachers were like him!
This professor is very harsh, abrasive, and demeaning. If you didn't understand a concept or what his expectations for an assignment were, he would shun you in front of the class for not paying attention and being incompetent. There were multiple times where I was called out in front of the class and judged for my background and upbringing and it m
Took professor for 133B. He is an extremely caring professor, but do not get on his bad side. When I mean bad, do not be late to class. He truly wants all of his students to do well. Go to his office hours - if you have any question. He wants you to answer his essay questions the way he told you to. He is a very knowledgable guy. He is a solid 8/10
BEWARE: His lectures are based on his personal experience- don't expect powerpoint slides because he doesn't use it (nor Canvas). You only get a list of topics he'll be talking about in class that day so listen carefully and take good notes. Quizzes are pass/fail. Failed? He'll call you out and let the whole class know why you failed. Good luck.
Jeff has a different teaching method. I personally think it's quite refreshing. The only thing is that he is VERY SPECIFIC about EVERYTHING lol but come to class on time and don't leave early. Just take notes and follow his lectures. Talk to him if you need help, he will help you. NO homework & textbook.
Jeff was probably the most interesting professor I've had. His teaching style is very different from other marketing classes as he's more "real world orientated". Make sure you come to class and take notes because nothing is on canvas. Also, attendance and participation is a quarter of your grade, so make sure you're there!
Jeff has an unconventional way of teaching. His quizzes are pass or fail, but he tells you what is on the quiz before you take it. His stories are really interesting and time flies in class. He is not going to be everyone's favorite professor, but he does have amazing lectures if you plan to be in international business. Write in business english!
NOT YOUR AVERAGE TEACHER. He lets you know that off that bat. He is not an easy A and you have to work for it. However, he really does prepare you for the real world. He wants you to think like an individual navigating international marketing with realistic scenarios. A great class if you want to actually learn.
He teaches real-life learning and wants you to think as if you're a professional. His grading is VERY tough but not hard. You just have to follow his instructions, he lays everything out for you in SPECIFIC detail! Ask questions in class, it'll get you full participation! If he calls on you for q's, don't ask him to repeat, he'll call u out.
Professor Fadiman graduated from Stanford University, and he truly wants students to learn and improve. He will teach much more than a marketing professor is supposed to. Whatever you need from him, he will teach because he really wants you to succeed in real life. You will gain a lot of take-away knowledge from him. Highly-recommend!
A harsh grader!! He will issue negative grades for exams! A NEGATIVE grade (worse than "0"). 25% grade for attendance w/the camera on for online class (have to ask Q) 25% each for 3 exams. If you ask exam date before the exam comes, he will say you ask high school questions. No grades/slides published at Canvas, and instructions are very vague.
Instructor Fadiman is very different compared to my other teachers. There's no homework other than the readings he assigns. Your grade depends on your participation, attendance, and the tests. His class isn't too difficult but make sure to take notes on his lectures. Lots of the material in his lectures appear on the test.
Professor Fadiman is extremely caring and completely unique. His class is lecture heavy and not based on any book knowledge. Keyword here is experience. This course is extremely interesting and will help you grow as a business person. He forces you to participate which can be scary at first but definitely helps you grow.
Not your average teacher he talks about international marketing during class with no modules or actual things to study off of. He requires that your camera is turned on every class. Dont take him he is a very frustrating teacher and no matter how hard you try he will still fail you.
His negative exam grade jeopardizes my final grade greatly. He will pick on all your English grammar with endless minus points. He barely has any written instructions, and never told us how he grades exams. Even if you are an"A" student, no matter how hard you try, you still could get a "C". If you don't want him to ruin your GPA, avoid him!
Professor Fadiman to say the least is a character. VERY LECTURE HEAVY but near to no homework (just makes you study for map tests and exams). DOES NOT DO MULTIPLE CHOICE-all exams are written responses and grades extremely hard). Lectures pass by like a thousand years. Notes are very hard to take in class too cause of TA. Good guy all said and done
I took Professor Fadiman for International Marketing over the spring semester. Old fashioned, but very knowledgeable and has lots of experience. Professor Fadiman's class is heavily lecture based, the lectures can be very interesting and somewhat funny as he likes to incorporate his past experiences into his lectures. 0 hw, 2 midterms, and a final
Terrible professor. Messy lecture and a harsh grader (Expects too much from us). I would advise you to take a different elective since he is the only professor for international marketing. Sucks because I didn't select him as my professor, so if anything I'd avoid taking international marketing as long as he is teaching.
A Stanford grad and world traveler, with strong ties to Africa, Prof. Fadiman enjoys sharing what he's learned. No textbook; selected readings. Come to class prepared, participation is important. A stickler for good writing, he makes his criteria clear, and is available for coaching. Take advantage of both. The TA makes the class, Kathy is great.
I highly recommend not taking this course! He will tell you how to write an essay in a "business way" which is absolutely different than any other professor. He will grade you heavily on your writing style over your actual information. Does not use Canvas, no syllabus, and no recorded grades. (I passed the word limit watch out for my second post.
Professor Fadiman is one of the most knowledgeable and engaging professors. There are no textbooks, only suggested readings. Make sure you pay attention to the lecture because he's going to drop real-life applicable knowledge and teach you how to tailor it to your personal experience. He's tough on writing but gives feedback and rewards growth.
Jeff pushes his own agenda in and out of the classroom. He ateempts to sell his book and travel services to Africa. Jeff is a Journalism major, and has no business teaching Business courses and asking for Journlistic type writing. He doesn't treat disabled students proerly, and makes fun of their disabilities.
There is not enough space for me to talk about how amazing Jeff Fadiman is. Best professor ever, cares about what he speaks/teaches about. Seems tough, but is really a sweetheart. I wish I could take him over and over again. Map quizzes seem tough but are only there for participation points. GO TO CLASS! Or pray you make a friend to send u notes.
you need to be in the class before he takes role or he marks you absent, doesn't use canvas, cares heavily about participation. the class is mainly lectures about other classes and drawing maps of continents. business majors are not beating the coloring book allegations tbh. this class is a waste of time i would only take it if you need the credit.
If you're here to learn and understand the REAL WORLD and how to market yourself in various countries, I HIGHLY recommend Jeff. His experiences and humility to share them with his fellow students is more than you'd get out of any textbook. It's an ASSET. If you're not here to learn, take another professor that you can AI your way through.
Professor Fadiman is one of the most passionate and knowledgeable instructors at SJSU. His lectures are engaging, filled with stories, and help students understand how culture shapes marketing across Europe. There's no homework just a map quiz, two midterms, a final, and three PMO questions written in American Business Writing.
Above and beyond. His teaching methods truly spark engagement, and passion. He gives tools and advice that are actually applicable to real life rather than going over irrelevant concepts that bore students. His unique teaching methods offer a break from the typical textbook course and are fun to go to. I have truly valued learning from him.
Just don't take the class. This professor does not care if you were sick or if you have family problems. He has two midterms of final and a map quiz every other week. There's no textbook. It's all from his knowledge. Midterms and finals you have to write in American business English. If you don't write up his expectations, he'll fail you.
Have u ever wanted 2 meet Helen Keller? Bc if so, take this class. U will not be seen, heard, nor will he communicate with u. He offers only 10pm office hr zoom & left me stranded (doesn't tell me ahead of time) but 10 minutes late, no attendance 4 u. U won't know your grade the entire semester. Class legit joke, AVOID CLASS
