He is a down to earth guy. Knows what he is talking about. He is Jewish nice guy over all. I would take another class with him if there was one.
this guy is a good teacher. his class is actually fun sometimes. the only problem is if u take his class u better be ready for big projects that require alot of effort. he is an old school activist and it definitly shows in his teaching and the type of projects u have to do. and yes the projects r ur entire grade so good lucck with them.
Good teacher, very down to earth. Lectures alot, and all his tests are based on his notes, so take good ones. The final is easy, and his project is fun as long as you keep in touch with youre partners. Good teacher, I would take a class with him again
Out of 400 points, 240 are GUARANTEED. Guaranteed 240 are the Takehome final, paper bout a movie, group presentation, and an inputpaper. The other 160 is from 2 quizzes, which are hard. Make sure you pay attention and write EVERYTHING he says, even small stuff. He usually curves at least 10 pts each quiz anyways. Register voters, and get 10pts EC.
Good guy. Not so hard. Exams were a bit hard, but he's changing them constantly to make them easier for future classes. There was a lot of work to do in this class, but it made us learn few things. Group project was fun, but make sure to pick serious people for your group. And, yeah taking notes was a nightmare!
It was a hard class, but I passed. He is very hard to understand because he jumps around a lot.
Interesting professor, pretty easy to pass the class. Even if you fail both of the quizzes you can still pass with a C or B overall because the mass majority of the class's points are guarenteed! Nice guy, and would love to take another class of his.
Difficult wording on quiz tests, not very easy lectures to follow, sometimes gets off on other subjects.
Farrah is a hard teacher, but if you do all the papers correctly, and do alright on the tests, you can get an A. Sometimes he has extra credit (20 points), which is nice. So I wouldn't worry about this class, it's hard, but just follow him closly, if you can.
He talks fast and draggs out his lectures. If you want to do good on the tests, I recommend that you record his lectures and take notes. Projects were un-interesting but not too hard. Since this is NOT my favorite topic, it was hard for me to get into it, but overall it was tolerable since it is required.
Rambles, rambles, rambles and repeats himself far too much. He also constantly interrupts students after he has asked for input or an answer to a question. They usually don't get half of their answer out. If you go to class, take notes and pay attention you'll do fine though. Hardly used the book. Not worth the $$.
His test are very hard. Very confusing. Nice teacher and the work he has you do is good to make up for how bad his exams are.
very easy ;-) u dont even have to pass the test because of all the extra crap he has u do.. very good teacher. lectures = boring but his class is easy
great class
If you're taking Political Science, try to get Farrah. Yes, it's a boring class, but what do you expect? As long as you attend class and do the projects, you'll pass. Plenty of opportunity for extra credit and very friendly and helpful prof. Verbage on the tests is confusing but it's not too hard to pass the 3 exams.
One of the best instructors I have had. Great Gen Ed class. Curved tests, group project that we got to meet on 1/2 hour on in class every week. Tests aren't too hard, just loo over and study your notes. Got an A on half a$$ed project (didn't show sources). Recommended instructor. Days off because of his Jewish holidays.
He's a cool guy, really down to earth. Lecture can be boring but gives good notes. Fun lecture class tho.
Really good guy, and not a hard class at all. Be warned: he teaches at a very slow pace when giving lectures, so it feels like he's dragging the point. Overall has a passion for teaching and will pass you as long as you give some effort. Quizzes based off lectures, so I don't recommend purchasing book!
Farrah was an awesome teacher! He loves talking about current events and he is pretty hilarious. Plus the class is super easy.
Proff Farrah is AWESOME!!! He is quirky, which makes him hilarious. I slept a little bit every class and still got an A, so Its very easy. The tests are not hard, but they aren't easy. Luckily, there are only three quizzes and the other assignments are easy A's. He likes to talk current events ALOT, which is fun. I DEF recommend him!
great teacher it is a blow off class it is a fun class and the class time goes so fast
He was annoying sometimes because he would ask who knew what questions, thats what we are in class for is to learn, and then you would say something random so he would stop asking who is paying attention and he would be like nope your wrong... but easy class no homework take notes and youll get an A like i did.. he is nice by the way
Farrah was a great teacher. Easy A if you pay attention to the lectures, they are all from PowerPoints. On the first day of class, he will go over the syllabus, if you object to somethings on the it he will change them so make sure you debate the syllabus as much as possible.
Farrah is all over the place in his lectures and you basically learn nothing. One minute in the 1700's, next today but you never know what he's talking about... but he'll keep talking just the same! Nice guy and it is an easy A, but was disappointed to not learn much about Gov't.
He is a really cool guy. Has very interesting stories and wants everyone to get involved in making change. You are guaranteed to pass if you show up for class and at least make an effort by turning all assignments in. Hard to take notes because he is ALLLL over the place and talks fast. Definitely recommend taking this class with him.
Mr. Farrah is one of the best Govt. professors. I recommend taking his class in the summer, b/c he cuts back on doing projects. He's very laid-back and the class isn't too difficult. Just take good notes and study them with the lectures. The book is useless and unnecessary. Tests are kind of difficult, but overall class is fun & easy. I got an A.
Does not make it easy to fail this class. Offers extra credit projects constantly. Keeps on topic when teaching. Has a political sense of humor. Hard to follow and take notes because he jumps in his ideas. Very laid back and encourages political participation and is open to imput. Great teacher!
Take Farrah only for POL 1510, because for this class he completely changed his teaching methods. He didn't give the class any notes, just read from the book, and pulled random things from his head. Couldn't understand anything he said or couldn't keep up with him. Way too fast. Tests are all essays
Don't take this class with Farrah. He doesn't teach it very well. Doesn't give any notes just pulls random info from his head. Half the class leaves after break because no one understands what he says and because he says everything to fast. Tests are all essay based and have to be cited properly.
He's a nice guy, fair grader, and gives a ton of unnecessary extra credit if you can't pass his tests. I got all A's on his tests because I took notes on what he said. He is really boring, hard to listen to, and talks a little fast. It's easy if you put a little bit of effort into it. If you don't, you'll think it's hard and fail his tests.
He is REALLY scattered, cheesey and really wants to make a difference in the world. He's a hippy, but if you actually show an effort, it is an EASY A. I didn't too great on the tests, but showed him that I wanted to do well and he gave me every opportunity to earn my A.
Don't buy the textbook. He won't use it. Yes, he is all over the place, but you will also learn from his class.
Farrah is a motivated and fast speaker and jumps around from subject to subject so much I can barely keep up. Often he will lecture straight from the book, which is dreadfully boring. Our tests are take home essays but the questions are wrote so elaborately that I can barely understand what they are asking in the first place. Not taking him again.
Farrah is a scattered but fair teacher. if you dont pay CLOSE ATTENTION to EVERYTHING he says you will be lost. Very fun and enthusiastic on the subject. Tons of extra credit. definitley worth a try.
Professor Farrah is unorganized, scattered and ditsy. The textbook was over-written vanity show for author. This should have been a great class
If you want a professor who doesn't mind if you don't pay attention, lets you use notes on each test, is all over the map while he's talking, doesn't use the book, and has no idea how to use technology, go right ahead and take his course. But the project takes a bit of work.
He mumbles and is all over the place...his quiz questions are out of left field so Its impossible to get an A. Lots of extra credit if you have the time. He's a Nice Guy...but maybe should have chosen a different career.
All his tests are his opinions, he does let you use a page of notes on the tests. He gave a lot of extra credit but a lot was going to speakers. He gets off track a lot. He is rude and interrupts people. He is very knowledgeable but should not be a teacher. and we did not use the book at all.
All of the comments about him being unorganized, liberal, scatter brained, and opinionated are true. What people have to realize is that professors at four year colleges are exactly like this. OCC students are spoonfed their education through extra credit assignments and 25 question tests. if Farrah had students who liked to learn, hed be excellent
"I would argue" is his favorite phrase in lecture and on the quizzes. Who cares!!!!! Give us the facts, not what you would argue because what you would argue and the facts are 2 seperate things. Still CONFUSED!!!!!
This class was chaotic. His lectures were long & based on his opinion.I failed all 3 tests. However, he does give u many chances to better your grade. Make sure u do all projects, extra credit, take notes&attend class.I got a B+ in the class.I didn't learn ANYTHING.IF U JUST WANT TO PASS, THIS CLASS IS FOR U.Don't buy the TEXTBOOK he doesn't use it.
Farrah is a great teacher. He is really nice and its not a difficult class. Many people found his test to be difficult, but i personally found them to be a breeze. You dont use the book in class. He will tell you that the first day too. I learned some really interesting things in his class. Some say he goes off opinion and that is correct onlysofar
He talks ALOT!!!! Doesn't use the book, you need to know everything from lecture. His exams are hard but if you do the extra credit you'll be fine! Again he talks alot and FAST, so listen!
great teacher
Farrah is a great teacher, talks super fast but if you just write down the things he says you'll be fine on the test gives a lot of extra credit and curves every test. GREAT TEACHER!
While it is obvious Mr. Farrah is a bright man, it simply doesn't shine through in this class. Disorganized and unstructured. I wouldn't bother taking notes, as he has resorted to a take home midterm and final, and nothing else with a grade pertains to the information in the class (presentations). However, you will need the text for the exams.
As a previous reviewer stated, "Its [sic] impossible to get an A." This assertion is simply false. I attended every class period on time, engaged myself in the lectures, and took explicit notes on the material. As a result of my efforts, I earned me a solid A in the course.
He is a good teacher but not organized for the class. Quizzes were easy. As long as you do all the work you will be able to get an A. Come on the quiz reviews.
Jeff was an awesome teacher. The class was incredibly easy for me and I don't find political science interesting. We had one group project, which my group did excellent in, and we got to grade ourselves. The quizzes were easy, and if you had a problem, you could just talk to him. He's a very laid-back guy.
Dr. Farrah is near genius in his area of expertise. HOWEVER, that does not necessarily make a "good teacher" material. Alot of scattered information is thrown at you with not much direction of what notes to take down (to study for on tests, and reviews are vague and quick.)It WAS Still more interesting than i thought it would be, i must admit.
Very laid back guy, you can tell he enjoys teaching. Funny man, I have to agree with a lot of his ideology. Cool guy, i thought the class was real easy, attendance is a fairly good idea though i spent most of the time playing flash games
very good teacher. tests are relatively easy if you review your notes (make sure you take good notes)
I took this class during an election year to learn more of our government, how it operates, and some of the foundational principles of our country. I got a liberal one-sided teaching of the political environment of the democratic party and civil rights. Looked at the constitution and bill of rights once in 15 weeks! VERY DISAPPOINTED.
This class was terrible we did not use the book and he was never clear with what he wanted for his assignments.I do not know my grade because he did not grade any of our papers. DO NOT TAKE HIM
Easy course, very boring. But we had cool assignments. We had pen pals in Africa. Overall I liked him
He is a nice guy but likes group discussion about current events and doesn't facilitate that well and it's not something you are ever graded on.
He's a nice guy but when he lectures, he is all over the place. the questions on his quizzes are worded funny and they are hard to understand. He's laid back and approachable. Don't take this class if you can't take really well notes. He doesn't use a book so you have nothing to reference to.
This man was a nightmare. I learned absolutely nothing from him. He does know how to stay on topic which makes it difficult to understand what his point is supposed to be. Unless you are someone taking the class because you have to and don't care about learning, don't take. He is horrible.
Super confusing. When ever I asked questions I always became more confused. The only reason I received a good grade was because he let us use a page of notes on every quiz. So I didn't really learn anything, but I passed. Don't take him, but if you do, take good notes!
THIS WAS MY FIRST COLLEGE CLASS.HIS EXPLAINATIONS ARE CLEAR AND UNDERSTANDABLE IF YOU KNOW WHAT HE IS REFFERING TO. HE DOES GET OFF TOPIC SOMETIMES BUT ITS ALL RELATIVE TO THE SUBJECT. HIS ASSIGNMENTS ARE SUPER EASY, IF YOU WRITE THE PAPERS AND PASS THE TESTS YOU WILL BE FINE. I WAS HAPPY WITH PASSING WITH A B+ ALSO DO THE XTRA CREDIT IT HELPS!!!!
Rambled on and off topic. Not a very strong lecture given. I passed the class but he was confusing at times and could not hold the attention of the class. He over explains things and that can become very confusing.
Just pay attention in lectures, take notes and complete all his assignments. Easy A.
Great Guy, horrible teacher! I really wanted to learn about American Government, but I actually think I know less now, than before :P. He does not stay on topic, his quizzes are super hard, and he did not give back any papers. I didn't know my rough grade until today. Easy A-class, but if you want to learn something, do not take him!
Farrah is not a good teacher at all. He gets off topic a lot, and overexplains things that are not important. He does not explain some of the assignments well enough. His tests are very easy, and based completely off of his lectures, so write down everything he says and you will be fine. He offers extra credit that I would recommend taking.
He is a great teacher. Does go over things again and again but wants to make sure you understand since his tests are completely from his lectures. If you show up and pay attention you should do good.
Hard tests, does not use a book,If you are not good at excellent not taking, you have a problem. Basically, you need to do your own research, lot of work. Would never take this teacher again
Farrah was a pretty cool dude. He was def passionate about government and was more than fair when it came to grading. His lectures ramble a bit, but your allowed a cheat sheet on your quiz. overall likeable guy.
Don't buy the book! His test are straight from his lectures. If you take good notes you will ace the test because you can use them on it. Has a couple projects and papers, easy class
Funny guy but not helpful.. Asked him questions when I was confused did not help what so ever
Easy a. You get one page front and back on tests. Typed, handwritten, whatever you'd like. If you write down whats on his power points you have an a. (Or he puts them online and you just print them ;) ) 4 projects, all easy. 1) 3 min presentation, 2) read and answer the questuons, 3) contact 5 people, 2 being political, 4) something else. Easyyyyyy
Lectures on his knowledge. No cues from textbook or prepacked PPT (though PPTs are used) means students' questions won't hit brick wall (i.e. "that's what the textbook says") but are answered with genuine understanding. Respects independent thought; puts politics plainly; considers adjusting course expectations if students give good reason; fair
Horrible!!!! All he did was give his opinion and swear. Super annoying and not helpful. He was not clear at all on anything especially on assignments. Would NEVER take a class from him again.
Don't take him for an 8 week course. 45% of the course grade is based off the quizzes, which progressively get harder (final one is impossible) -- the rest of the presumed course grade is from assignments, which he will not have time to grade in the summer because he must be to busy doing something else. Overall he has been the worst instructor :(
His lectures are really long and he elaborates a lot. If you have a super short attention span like me, then it could make you a little sleepy but if you're someone who needs a lot of examples, definitely take this class. Gives a lot of extra credit opps. Don't buy the book. Always show up because all tests are based on lectures.
Be ready to take a lot of notes. Content is all lecture based so if you're not good at taking notes in class, bring a recorder. You can make cheat sheets for quizzes. As long as you do the other assignments (which are long) you'll pass the class. Take him if you're not good at this subject.
Must. Take. Notes. and lots of them... A few assignments and 3 tests. You must take notes and you need to decipher what matters-he will spend 20 minutes talking about something not on the tests. Notes are allowed on test day but nearly impossible to fit on 1 sheet. Assignment descriptions must be read thoroughly-his layout skills are lacking!
Farrah is a pretty cool dude. I just felt like we could have spent more time focusing on actual American Government and less time on civil rights. We spent almost half the semester on civil rights acts, and movements in Detroit.
This was my first college class in six years. I took the summer version of POL1510 at OCC Auburn Hills and enjoyed the class, though we didn't quite cover all the potential material due to the shorter summer schedule and Professor Farrah's rambling/repetitive lectures (though good). Abundant extra credit available. Just listen and you'll pass.
He talks a lot! His lectures are extremely boring, and sometimes confusing. Be prepared to take notes.
All of his tests are based on what he says during the lecture, NOT what the slides are or what he writes on the board. TAKE DOWN EVERY WORD HE SAYS BECAUSE THATS LITERALLY WHAT THE TESTS ARE. Hes very wordy. He talks so much that we only have a month left in the semester and we haven't even covered half the materials.
I've personally enjoyed this class. He does have a tendency to go off topic, but you're only tested on what he actually covers in class; we didn't even have a book. This class is not difficult if you pay attention. Everything on the tests (which you're allowed notes on) is covered in class and briefly reviewed before the test. He's also very nice.
I enjoyed this class. It's an easy A, all you have to do is show up to class, take notes and pay attention. He doesn't require a book, and will let you use a cheat sheet on his quizzes. Lots of opportunity for extra credit as well. He tends to go off topic, and can be very opinionated about his political views, but overall he's a great teacher.
He didn't use a book. All quiz material was based on lectures, which were interesting. He does require you to do every assignment to pass but there aren't many. He's a good teacher if you like class discussions.
Hes a great professor. Yes, his class I should lecture heavy but as long as you pay attention and put the effort in youll get an A! He also has lots of extra credit opportunity. Hes also a really easy grader.
Great personality and person, loves participation. Lectures were all over the place, unfocused and scattered until someone in class suggested the use of PowerPoint slides. We had a group project, current event presentation and 2 take home exams. Doesn't grade anything till the end of the semester. A reasonable grader but very unorganized.
He is a bit unorganized but his classes are very easy to follow if you ask for a powerpoint. Don't just write what is on the board, write what he says in class. He allows for cheat sheets in quizzes and although there are some papers and projects, he is an easy grader.
Everything is literally lecture so you have to write down and listen to what he says. He writes random words on the board so if you copy those down you'll just be confused when you look over them. very unorganized class and all over the place. He's an nice professor at least. I literally record every class so i can listen later.
loved his class! lecture heavy but lets you bring a front and back page of notes. Funny guy who makes class entertaining. Lots of extra credit opportunities if you pay attention and put in some effort it will be an easy A.
Its not as difficult as people make it seem. It's actually pretty straight forward. Do the work and you'll pass. Also take good notes. The class was super easy and the professor lets you use your notes on EVERY test, including the final. Only issue is he is a slow grader and we didn't receive final grade till a week after semester. This is EASY!!
This class is torture boring, I had him 1-4 (4hrs) and he just talks all lecture and you don't even know what to write in your notes because not everything he says will be on quizzes. He also has D2L set up but will not use it to grade and that is not helpful with me. You dont need a texbook which is good!
Farrah is overall a cool professor. However, he is very unclear on what he wants. Lectures are very long and unclear. Not a very activity driven class. His slides are just topic based and not explained and anything he writes on the board you'll most likely not need. Not sure if I will do well since he is very unclear.
To say Dr. Farrah is unorganized is an understatement. He's a cool guy and inspires his students to take political action, but has said point blank he doesn't like grading papers, which is why it takes him forever. Lectures are painfully long; many students leave during break. Will often forget what he was was just talking about.
Dr. Farrah was a great choice for my POL1510 class. In high school, I had taken AP U.S. History and AP American Government so this class was a breeze for me. He had taken already previous knowledge and built off of it, giving you a deeper look into politics. He is a little scattered, but it is not a bad thing just something to note. I loved him!
You have to come and listen to his lectures, which often go off on tangents, and he never grades anything until the end. Didn't do great on confusing quizzes but extra credit made up for it and he had no choice but to give us As on assignments since he waited til the last day to grade. Nice guy, lots of class discussion. Hard to fail
Super easy class, as long as you show up and do your work its an easy A. The exams are all two attempts, 3 days to complete, and open note, super easy as long as you prep yourself some notes. Overall a great guy, wants you to do well and score high in his class, not difficult, topics are all pretty interesting even if you don't like gov like me.
I'm taking courses at Umich, and he forces you to enroll in an exchange program which takes another 3 hour slot from your day. Not to mention, he doesn't grade until the end, never responds to emails and is unclear in what he expects from each assignment. Worst professor I've taken
I'm taking this class and so far I can say that this professor is very unorganized. When you start the class, most of the assignment details are in the syllabus. I feel it would be more convenient to have them in the 'assignments' section. The lectures are long and personally, are completely irrelevant to me because its ranting more then learning.
Professor Farah never grades until the last minute. This makes it difficult for students like myself to have a chance to correct papers and possibly see if we can improve grades via extra credit. He drones out on lectures and you won't learn much from it. This by far was the worst professor I have taken and will never take. There are better ones!
The reviews stating Professor Farrah is a bit unorganized have some merit, but having taken four of his classes, I can say the good far outweighs the bad. He has a wealth of knowledge, tries to engage students in discussions, and genuinely cares about his students. He isn't a tough grader, and if you put in effort an A is not hard to get.
Lectures can be confusing, but ask and he will clarify everything simply. Doesn't mark down for turning stuff in late. Lets us use notes on all tests. You do have to attend class because the power points only have main points and no details. Very easy class, you'd have to TRY to fail. Love this professor.
Professor Farrah does explain material well and makes it interesting if you like history. Your grade is based on a few things, but if you do them all will likely pass. On the political input assignment, he has the "attempt to contact the government" clause for good reason and he grades it that way. Show up, do your work, and you will pass.
Gets side tracked constantly so much of the content you need to do yourself. The upside is that he is a super easy graded and wants you to succeed and is very supportive.
There was a lot of work involved, but if you're good at writing and if you stay interested in government, you'll breeze through this. I was worried, but the professor was very helpful and all the "extra" things were actually fun (virtual exchange student thing & student-led presentation). All in all, he actually cared about what he taught. 10/10
Boring, bland, empty. There's nothing here!!! Directionless, pointless, vague, boring lectures with no clear sign of his expectations. First grade in the class was a quiz that the class average was a 75%, and I love government and politics but what even does Jeffrey Farrah understand about the content he's sworn to teach when no one understands him
Super enthusiastic and fun, does get sidetracked alot but i assume most students dont care because he is a very chill grader, did other homework in this class and was still able to get his work done, i kept missing the discussions every week which was annoying.
Professor Farrah's class is an interesting mix - lectures can be disorganized, but he genuinely wants students to succeed. Assignments are manageable with effort, and using resources like unstuck ai alongside the textbook can really help with preparation.
Genuinely caring, interesting and funny, but prone to distraction. At a certain point i realized class was not necessary, but I kept going at 8:30 in the morning because i felt more up to date on political issues from class debate and genuinely enjoyed it. Point deducted since we have a week left and no graded assignments so keep that in mind lol
I just think the class can become just side conversation after side conversation, overall hes a good proffesor and hes easy
Professor Farrah is nice but gets EXTREMELY side tracked. There is 3 assignments put in and it's the last day of class. The class is easy, hopefully I get a good grade but I have no clue! Work is fine, but expect to do your own research because the lecture gets that off track. The work has nothing to do with the lessons.
