Took a 100 level and a 300 level course with this guy. Very little feedback regarding the weekly forums, but very nit-picky on the essays. Plenty of reading without much guidance in the lesson portion.
Professor Gardner is straight forward. Everything that was laid out in the syllabus was how it was. (i.e. grading, deadlines, feedback etc...) I enjoyed his class, he responded quickly to forum responses, follow-up questions and research papers. There was a descent amount of reading, but not all text book. He also generated good discussions.
Great teacher. Was more than willing to work with scheduling conflicts. Would definitely take again. Feedback was clear and concise. Class was interesting and very informative. Instructor was the BEST instructor that i have had in my 3 years at AMU. Would jump at the chance to take another class with this instructor. Learned so much in this class!!
Professor Gardner gives great feedback in the forums and provides great background which comes from his military and professional experience. Makes you want to stay engaged in the online learning process. Outstanding prof!
Just finished taking HLSS302 Introduction to Homeland Security and Defense. I also took HLSS154 Mind of a Terrorist with Prof. Gardner last year. He is a GREAT professor and far over qualified to be teaching 100 and 300 level classes. He gives a lot of reading but it is all very interesting and very relevant. I plan on taking another class w/ him.
Work load is moderately high for the working professional. 250 word weekly post, 150(x2)word responses plus answer his 2nd weekly question and respond to weekly wrap-up. Five responses total per week. Challenging assignments but interesting. Interesting course material. Weekly posts suspended during weeks when assignments are due; very helpful
Dr. G does an incredible job and provides insight into how things work in a meaningful way. He is fair, consistent, understanding, but get ready to read. You will get more out of his class if it is the only class you are taking and your life isn't too hectic because he has a lot of very interesting and timely information to pass on.
One of the most knowledgeable instructors in the field of Homeland Security and Terrorism studies. Willing to always go the extra mile to ensure that his students get the most out of his courses and is always willing to work with you if a last-minute situation presents itself. I will highly recommend taking classes with Dr. G!
Dr. Gardner gives great feedback and real world insight in the realms of homeland security and intelligence. There is a lot of reading required from multiple sources, as well as writing assignments. Don't take this course unless you are ready to put some work into it; but if you do, you will learn a lot!
Professor Gardner is my favorite professor at AMU. I have taken 3 courses with him and he is very helpful. He replies back to your messages in a timely manner. He actually cares what you have to say. Learned a lot in these courses!
Great professor! A decent amount of work load but with the right time management, it can be done. No handouts for grades, you will have to work for it. Challenging but really great professor. Grades and feedback come back rather quick. I would enjoy taking another one of his classes.
Dr. G, is a great professor and is very knowledgeable in what he teaches. I respect him as a teacher and a professional within the Homeland Security community.
Professor Gardner was the best Professor I have ever had with American Military University. His weekly wrap-ups were extremely thorough and very beneficial for gaining more in depth knowledge of the homeland security mission and enterprise.
Dr. Gardner is the best professor I have had at AMU to date. His follow up to online forums is so detailed, and he provides a great perspective on tough issues Homeland Security faces. He really takes the time to offer individual feedback, and additional resources for future academic use. Look forward to having him again.
This professor was a very fair grader when it came to essays and forum work. I wish there would have been more individual feedback but i can understand the difficulty with online work. he was very informative and the writing requirement was actually 1/2 of what my other similar courses are experiencing. overall i would take his courses again.
Dr. G is truly an awesome professor, I wish more could teach and give feedback like him!
Great instructor and I have no complaints
Best professor I've had. Very personable and supportive of personal goals. Easy to talk to and will take time to answer any questions related to career or academic goals.
Dr. G was a fantastic professor and his extensive experience in the intelligence world greatly benefitted me and my career. I don't know if it is because I work as a intelligence professional but I was easily able to earn an A in the class while still learning a ton. TAKE. HIS. CLASS.
Dr. Gardner is clear, fair, and a true subject matter expert. He is very understanding of conflicting schedules and assignment due dates. He actually cares about his students. I would take additional classes from him in a heartbeat. I also highly recommend reading his doctoral dissertation he provides in HLSS320. It is super helpful for the papers.
Knows what he is talking about. Gives great feedback in forum posts, follow up questions, weekly wrap-ups, and on papers. Look forward to having him as a teacher in the future. Reading is required but not too heavy most weeks.
Dr. Gardner is extremely knowledgeable in the areas of Homeland Security and Intelligence. I took two online courses with him as the professor and I wish he taught more of my required courses.
Just do your written assignments and turn it in on time!
Doc G. is the man! One of the best and most professional professors I have had the opportunity to work for. He is very fair, while providing mentally challenging discussion boards and assignments. I really enjoy his classes due to his teaching abilities and challenging material. Doc G, receives an A+ grading in my book! Great professor!!!!!
I am on my second week into this class and I will say that Dr. G has already surpassed all previous professors I have worked with while with AMU. I have taken 15 Classes and he has totally impressed me with his strong work ethic, attention to detail and responsiveness. MTF once I complete the course.
Dr. Gardner is truly one of the best at American Public University. He has multiple published works, is extremely knowledgeable and is so responsive. He grades your work based on the message, gives you feedback and prepares you to be a better version of yourself once you leave his class!
Dr. Gardner's engagement with the student pool is unparallel. Morever, his transparency, flexibility, professionalism and organization to the material covered made the course challenging yet manageable. The more effort you put in to reading and digesting the material, the better feedback you will get from the course and its objectives.
Dr. G has you read alot of text but it is for your benefit. For the most part, you choose the topic for your papers for this class. Always gives great weekly wrapups and drops huge amounts of information at the end of the week. Highly recommend!!!
Dr. G is THE BEST! This is the second class I have taken of his, I had to get a waiver to take it as it was not in my academic plan, I explained to them I want to take the best teacher I have every had at this school 1 more time before I graduate. His knowledge is extensive-you will read, but it is always very interesting. He is very responsive!
This course dives further into the minds of terrorists. A lot of reading, forums are pretty simple with 250 minimum word count, respond to 2 classmates with a minimum of 100 words. Acknowledge Dr. G.'s weekly wrap up and his follow up question. Total of three papers, the longest is 5 pages. Have taken multiple classes from him. Great Professor.
Dr. G is one of the best professors I have had throughout my education. Be prepared to read. Dr. G is organized, provides an extensive reading list, and has expectations for participation. A great instructor for a good class, you will finish with more than you anticipated.
It was not a fluke! This was my second class with Dr. G. and I could not be happier! I wish I could continue to learn from this outstanding Professor. He is published, intelligent, and works his tail off to give you every chance to succeed. He makes you read a lot, but it's worth it. He will engage with you and makes you feel valued! Thanks Dr. G!
Dr.g G really has a passion for the field. He's prior service and really has respect for the demands of people having to work full-time with families. I have taken multiple classes with him and will take more before I earn my degree.
Dr. Jeffrey Gardner, Is a very good professor. He helps his student to obtain knowledge about Homeland Security. He is a passionate instructor, very knowledgeable, kind, humble, fair, and wants the best for his student. I want to take all my Homeland Security course to this professor. -Kayze Carmona
Honestly, I wish my academic plan aligned with his course schedule. I found Dr. Gardner to be an incredible teacher, and I truly appreciated his teaching style.
Dr G is a great professor as I can honestly say one of the best I've taken in my college career. I would definitely recommend for someone who is honestly looking to do well for themselves as you do put in the work and get what you put into it. You work hard and diligent you get a good grade simple as that. Make sure you read all of the criteria.
Dr. G. is a true professional. He gave critical and useful feedback throughout the course that set me up for success. His weekly wrap up sessions are top-notch and extremely insightful. I will be taking more of his classes.
Great prof. I've taken most courses he teaches. I think the course work is typical for a college-level, post ranging from 250-350 (course level dependant), three responses (including his), and three papers. In each paper received an A and 2 A-'s.
Doctor Gardner is a very engaged professor. His classes do require you to participate and be engaging weekly. His career experience and informative weekly professor briefings give great information. On my final assignment, my wife went into emergency labor, and I informed him. He gave me a five day grace period to complete the final assignment.
Dr. G, was one of my favorite professors Ive ever had. He is very dedicated to his job and expects you to put in the work. If you follow instructions and put in the work, your grade will reflect it. It wasnt easy whatsoever, but being able to achieve an A in this class was well worth it!!
He was a great professor, if you want to really learn about the mind of terrorist, I recomend to take his class.
Extremely knowledgeable with real world experience in the subject matter. Lays out the grading criteria very clearly on assignments and the objectives for the week, no surprises or unfair grading. Will definitely more classes by him in the future.
To be honest, the whole course was interesting, and I enjoyed every lesson. The best part about this course is all the helpful links and feedback that Dr. G provided. The topics he posted for us to write about engages our train of thought to really help us understand what Homeland Security stands for. I would take it again under Professor G.
I want to start by saying I have had him as a professor for two courses and tried for the third time. However, they ended up changing me to another professor even though I registered a month early. Everyone wants to be in this man's class, and you are extremely fortunate if you can get a seat. You need to take this mans class,
I honestly don't know where to begin, I am speechless. You're currently the only professor that I've encountered throughout my time here at AMU that forth puts this much effort, knowledge and experience into their class. This doesn't go unnoticed and I want you to know that, I appreciate it. I learn more in your weekly wrap ups, true caring person.
This is my fifth class with Dr G. You learn so much more from him, particularly with the follow up questions and the weekly wrap up. If all professors were created equal it would be amazing. 3 papers, 1st is a Red cell plotting a terror attack, then collection & analysis. For the 3rd combining the first 2 papers & recommending 3 changes for HLS
Dr. Gardner is an encyclopedia of Homeland Security knowledge and he will share more than most will be able to process in an 8 week term. Great lectures/lessons and class engagement. Lots of discussion in his courses. Content based and fair grading. Very responsive to emails. Im in my second course with him now and plan to take as many as I can.
Dr. G will introduce you to new sources during each week that will steer your arguments for your assignments which made writing so much easier when it came time for essay writing. Best Professor at American Public University without question.
Dr. G is hands down the best professor I've taken a class with. He gives good feedback on your assignments and is very knowledgeable. Participation matters and his grading is fair and consistent. Dr. G provides weekly wrap ups which is something I have not seen by other professors. Taking a course with Dr. G is recommended.
Dr. Gardner is an extremely fair grader. Show up to class, do the work, and the grade will be appropriately reflected.
Dr. Gardner is great. He is fair, but you have to put in the work. He provides a ton of information for the week, and then when the week is done he gives you even more. He pulls in information from every direction and his wrap ups are a fantastic source of further information. If you really want to learn, take his classes.
Weekly wrap ups were extremely insightful. Great feedback and responsive to questions and concerns.
Dr. G is great. Sets you up to pass his classes. Above and beyond participation and feedback. Approachable and helpful. Papers graded on your content/material vs. APA formatting. Expectations and grading is clearly defined. Will take classes from him again.
He's a great professor really works with you but the class does require a good deal of writing.
Jeffrey Gardner or Dr.G, Is truly an exemplary professor and always provides additional information for each lesson. He is the best teacher/ instructor I've ever come across. Take a course from him and you won't be disappointed.
Dr. G. is very good at what he does and he is an industry professional. There is an absurd amount of reading he requires, but you can skip a lot of it and still get an A+ on all assignments. My biggest con with him is he does not provide personalized feedback. He just copies and pastes the rubric and marked down some points and did not explain why.
Bottom line, one of the best professors I've had since starting classes through AMU. I must say that it's been a while since I've taken a class through AMU where I felt as engaged as I did with Professor Gardner. He makes you look forward to each week, especially with his own personal experience inputs.
Dr. G is a hands-on instructor that will give you more than enough information to complete assignments. He does require more course work than other instructors, however it's nothing crazy. I will definitely be looking to take as many classes with him in the future. Hands down the best instructor I've had so far.
Dr. Gardner isn't a bad professor, but we didn't jive. Be prepared to read, because his "brief" announcements are certainly not that. The feedback for assignments and discussions is just copied and pasted. Assignments can be docked, but no negative feedback given. This class will eat your time up, so be ready.
make sure to participate in the weekly discussions
Gives great information
Great class and very informational.
Dr. G is simply an amazing professor. If you read his bio you will find that he has been a part of so many things within the Homeland Security sector. He uses those experiences to relate to the material, and his 'knowledge bomb' end of week wraps up have so much information that I go back to them even for other classes.
5 posts required per week.(initial post, 2 replies, follow up question and weekly wrap up acknowledgement) Dr. G was awesome, expectations clearly indicated in guidelines. Provide as much information to the class as possible, and even includes his own opinions in the weekly wrap ups. Worth taking his class. Grades fairly, would take again.
This was my second class with Dr. G. Loved my time in class with him, but due to my own lack of participation in the weekly discussions, was reflected in my final grade. Not a lot of feedback in the assignments, but enough to see if you were on the right track or not. Would highly recommend for future classes.
I really enjoyed my time with Dr. G. His weekly wrap-ups are full of additional information to fully close out the week. While there is not a lot of feedback on the three papers required in his class, I feel as though they are graded fairly. Participation is a must, but a fairly easy class overall.
Arguably the best professor I have had while attending AMU over the course of three years. If the opportunity presents its self, I will definitely sing-up for another class with Dr. G. Respected, extremely knowledgeable, and highly qualified. The grade is certainly earned by the work you put in. Follow his guidance, and you will do just fine.
- Really good feedback on research papers.
Absolutely amazing Professor who cares about his students. He requires more into the discussions than any Professor I have ever had, but the learning experience is phenomenal. I accidentally turned in the wrong file for my final and he worked with me to get the grade changed with the right paper. He is a bit tough but very fair and clear.
I enjoyed this class a lot with professor Gardner. He is very understanding and fair. He makes the class interesting and the workload isn't bad at all. Would definitely take again.
Be sure to check in periodically. Easy course overall be ready to write papers for 3 assignments but easy work.
I really enjoyed this. Would love to have him as a professor again.
Dr. G is probably one of the best instructors I've had so far. By far the most amount of information received in an AMU course. Assignments were typically graded within a week with clear feedback. If you fo the reading and class discussions the papers are a breeze. 10/10 would take again
Dr. Gardner was an exemplary professional, given his background and applicability to the subject matter while demonstrating a bias-free environment that provided knowledge and allowed you to formulate opinions on matters regarding source material and discuss them freely. Weekly wrap-ups brought a culmination of learning with a wider perspective.
This man is an absolute wealth of knowledge and made writing papers and getting through homework much more easily. There is a lot of reading, research, and writing you'll need to do but he will help you along the way.
I enjoyed Dr. Gardner's class. He is an expert in Homeland Security due to his credentials from his previous work experience within other agencies. The assignment within this course is quite simple: weekly discussion forum, professor's follow-up questions, response to 2 other classmates (no limit to respond), wrap-up response, and three essays.
Great professor! would definitely recommend his class. Dr. G. gives wonderful feedback as well as cares a lot about his students.
His end-of-week wrap up posts were great!
Dr. G is a phenomenal instructor. He's a wealth of knowledge, provides clear guidance, provides feedback leaving room to grow. Dr. G cares about the success of all his students. He's a compassionate instructor and true professional.
He love his job, the professor wrap up is loaded with very helpful materials.
As a Senior who has used this for years to decide on a professor (including this one) this is my first time posting about a professor. I have had a great experience with Dr. G! He is respected, knowledgeable, and an incredible professor who truly cares. His experience in the DHS will outweigh any book-smarts you'll find. TAKE HIS COURSES!!!
Ensure that you follow Dr. Gardner's instructions to a T.
Dr. Gardner is an outsanding educator who truly cares about his students and there sucess. I am honestly greatlful to have had him during HLSS320, and I learned a great deal throughout his course.
"Dr. G" is very long winded. Very egotistical as well and LOVES to talk about himself and all of the blog posts he has written. He refers back to them more than he refers to the course material. All of his responses are copy pasted and not personal at all. Additionally it has extra work attached to it like the wrap up's he does EACH WEEK. Avoid!!!
Dr. G was a great professor, if you followed the course objective and instructions you will be grades fairly. When it comes to grades he is quick to post, typically within in 2- 3 days after the week ends. Expect to due five post a week, and a total of three papers which is based on your own topic and is situational based
Prof G. is a wealth of knowledge on Homeland Security. His instructions were clear and concise. He grades to APA standards and even has some tolerance for small errors. He grades very fairly on Discussion Boards. He provides Knowledge Bombs weekly that are very helpful for the three papers. He likely grades on the weekends exclusively. Not woke.
Above average professor compared to other professor's in the homeland security for APUS. Definitely has a lot of reading and work in his class. If he is your professor, I recommend only doing his class for those two months if you can. In the end, you will benefit from all of the knowledge he posses and shares.
Great professor, He knows his material very well. Hopefully I get the chance to re-take his class.
Dr. G was the BEST professor hands down I've ever had! His impressive background qualifies him beyond capacity to teach this course along with his experience. The feedback is great, and overall Dr. G truly cares about the subject. I wish more of my future classes could be with him. 10/10!
Dr. G is a Great professor! Very down to earth and full of first hand knowledge. He will give you more information than you can probably absorb and most of it is very interesting.
Dr. G was very knowledgeable and was very easy tot understand what was expected from the course.
Dr Gardner was a great professor; he offered a lot of information outside of what the course information provided. He provides a lot of details in his assignment information and responds quickly if you have a question.
Recommend.
He was understanding and supporting in so many ways.
Great instructor, grades well, and grades pretty fast.
Dr. G has great experience in the intelligence field, which he is still active in. All of his feedback is very valuable and you leave this course learning more than you thought you would going into it.
Great professor. Relevant Weekly Wrap-Ups show how his active expertise in the Intelligence field applies to the studies and students future careers. I have taken 3 classes with Dr. G and they were by far the ones I learned the most in during my studies. Wish all my courses had been taught by him.
I highly recommend Dr Gardner as a professor. He gives bonus material that is very helpful in gaining maximum knowledge. My rating for professor difficulty was a 3, which is right in the middle because I was unsure of its context. He grades fairly and gives great feedback. The assignments are pertinent to the course material.
Dr. G, has a wealth of knowledge and truly is a subject matter expert in his field. He provides a lot of references and by the end of the course, students have a much better understanding. Definitely looking forward to taking future courses with him.
One of my favorite professors! I would definitely take his course again if given the option.
I would recommend taking a class with Proffesor Gardner. I personally enjoyed how he tackled the weekly discussions. There was no mandatory word count. However, at minimum he required five responses per a weekly discussion (1 post, 1 reply to his question(s), 2 replies to your classmates, and 1 reply to his end of week wrap-up disscusion).
Dr. G is a great professor with clear expectations. His class was fun and informative and you can tell he puts a lot of effort into your learning. I have already scheduled myself to attend a different class he teaches.
Dr G is a phenomenal professor with relevant experience and formal education that compliments the APUS platform instruction. Dr G cares about student success and expects them to accomplish their assigned tasks and assignments. Dr G is understanding and supportive if you have something that affects classwork. Will accept late work if you communicate
I took Dr. G's HLSS323 class and found that his feedback was the same for everybody. Copy/paste forum responses meant that it didn't feel he even acknowledged your forum posts. Further, when you completed papers the feedback was confusing and often took quite a while to get back. It was almost near finals time when I got back my midterm feedback!
I've enjoyed taking class with Jeffrey Gardner. He is a great professor, that grades fairly, and on time. If you can get a spot in his class, definitely take it!
I really enjoyed having him as my professor. I felt he was highly experienced in his field and knows what he is talking about. I'd take another one of his courses.
Great teacher. Enjoyed the class.
He always provides feedback to each student giving you more resources to look out and makes the class very interactive even though its an online class.
Great instructor with clear instructions. There will be a total of four replies that is required weekly (2 student replies, instructor question, and the weekly wrap up). There will also be three essays throughout the course. I very much enjoyed the class, the essays are easy as well as the replies. I look forward taking another one of his classes.
Great professor, I had him for two classes simultaneously and thoroughly enjoyed the content and the flow of both classes. Would take again.
True Professional. Most knowledgeable person I have ever encountered in the intelligence community.
Professor G is knowledgeable and engaging. His feedback is insightful, and you'll learn more than expected. Unstuckstudy was a game-changer for study prep - really helped me stay on top of the material.
Content and supplemental material was heavy, though incredibly insightful, detailed, and supportive of class discussions and assignments. Professor offered many opportunities for additional, personal education if there was an interest in a topic mentioned. Grading criteria is clear, graded adequately, and the professor is great with feedback.
This professor is a fair and dedicated teacher who cares about his teachings and the outcomes for his students.
Professor Gardner "Dr. G", in my opinion a favorite since attending AMU. Dr. G's professionalism, wisdom, and status are very impressive; he is someone that I hope to emulate working for our federal government. Thanks Professor!
BEST PROFESSOR I ever met. Fairness, impartiality, patience in grading homework and promptness are all appreciated. I hope to encounter such a professor again in the future.
10/10 Professor.
I do believe that the professor was very knowledgeable and very helpful during the course. I would say that I did enjoy this class and would love to take another class from Dr. Gardner.
Participation does matter, please read the discussion posts carefully as you may have you response to the professor on a weekly basis. Otherwise, the professor was very caring and informative! Would 1000% take this class again!
Dr Gardner class was not difficult. He does require 5 responses most weeks (Initial post, 2 classmates response, follow up, and end of week wrap up). He gives clear grading guidelines and feedback for assignments. I would definitely take another course with him.
Professor is extremely knowledgeable.
I have taken four different classes with him. Excellent as always!
Dr. G is an amazing professor and any class he teaches I would gladly take. As long as you do what is required in the class you can easily pass this class. He also goes above and beyond to help you understand the topics presented in the course and gives you additional information to help throughout the class. Highly Recommend!!!
Professor Gardner is excellent! I would take every class for my degree with him. You will need to complete 5 posts each week during the course. You have the discussion post, 2 replies to classmates, Dr. Gardners follow up and his acknowledgment at the end of the work. There are also 3 papers during the course Weeks 3,6, and 8.
Dr. G is the best professor I've had at AMU! The readings are detailed and full of real knowledge, and his intel background makes every class legit. He even has connections with people we studied, which made the course feel real. Take his class if you can!
Dr. G.'s well of knowledge runs deep—6,000 leagues, if I had to guess. His course is dense but rewarding, his feedback fair, and his weekly wrap-ups feel like mini masterclasses. Bring your A-game (and plenty of caffeine); you'll leave smarter, sharper, and maybe a little sleep-deprived.
For the working professional/accelerated student who maximizes efficient scheduled study periods, his approach forces a pattern of excessive monitoring and reactive engagement outside of structured assignments. I often wondered if the wraps up were for us or his ego. DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE IF YOU WANT TO POST ON THE PORTAL FOR THE SAKE OF IT.
Dr. Gardner's class had clear expectations and students were given additional resources to succeed. H Grading was good, and responded quickly, was extremely approachable. He made this course one of the best offered. Dr. Gardner is a top professional in this intelligence field. I will be taking as many courses as I can that Dr. Gardner teaches.
Dr. G is the most professional, knowledgeable instructor I've had. His experience shared through his weekly "wrap up" was the one thing I was looking forward to the most. The level of professionalism is clearly shown. Excellent in grading. If you want to learn, please take him.
Prof. G. doesn't hand out participation trophies; he builds HLS professionals. The workload is real, but so is the growth. Expect challenging readings, deep analysis, real-world applications, and a professor who likes to see leader-level thinking. High expectations, high payoff - worth every late-night page. Bring grit, caffeine, and a smile.
Professor Gardner was awesome! I will take every class he teaches. He grades fairly with discussions and assignments. He has had a legit career in intelligence with some 3 letter agencies, and uses his own personal experiences in the lectures every week.
