Relates with the students very well, and knows his stuff. Just come to class, take notes, and you will do great.
He is so nice and easy! It explains everything fully and really makes you get interested in the subject matter. Defintely take any of his classes and pay attention and you will easily pass his class
He is so clear, articulate and makes the class interesting. His sense of humour is a plus. He is clear on what he wants from the students and he will help you when you ask for it.
He was a very nice guy but all he did was lecture and wrote nothing on the board. I would have to tell him to spell out certain names cuz he assumed we knew. only two test. Gives no chances to better your grade
Come to class + take good notes + study = an A.
Awsome guy. He does lecture all class, but he makes it interesting. Very helpful is everything. As long as you show to class, take good notes (there is a lot of them) and study, you'll get an A - no problem. Take him!
I LOVE this man! He made the material interesting, and very clear on what he wants for exams. Only 2 exams, if you study and take notes (there's LOTS of notes) you're sure to get an A! Do yourself a favor and take him!
long but easy lectures, if you pay attention in class you will get an A
this guy gives verbal notes and expects you to know history inside and out. Would never take his class!!!!!!
very nice guy...give A LOT of notes but his tests are easy. just a midterm and a final and u just need to know basic stuff.
Students don't like his class because you actually have to show up to pass which is something new to a lot of students here at MSU. Showup take good notes and study and you get an easy A. Miss a boat load of classes and you will fail. He is a fun and interesting professor.
show up, take really good notes, study major events and you will do fine. he's a very nice guy and it's a pretty easy class. however, there is only a midterm and final...no other opportunities to boost your grade.
Professor Gould is a great professor.. He makes the subject material very interesting and gives great lectures. As long as you don't mind showing up, paying attention, taking great notes, and studying you will do fine! Only grades are Midterm and Final.. Lectures can be a little long, but not bad..
easy class to pass. take your notes and read over them and u cant possibly get lower than a c+, i never even read or bought the book and i got an A. great guy
Cool guy. Two grades, Mid-term and Final. Very clear when he's giving lectures. Just take good notes and study them. I didn't buy any books either and got an A.
great professor. very down to earth and funny. does not give homework, quizzes, xtra credit, etc., only a midterm & final but here both pretty easy.. take good notes and study and youll get an A (i did & im a slacker) also always let us out at least 45 mins early.
Easyyy class. I barely went to class, read the book, showed up for hte midterm and final and got an A. When I did go to class though, this guy was on point with his history, he knows his stuff, and he makes it interesting too. Really good class.
IF YOU WANT AN EASY A FOR A GENERAL REQUIREMENT COURSE DON'T TAKE HIM.
fairly easy class. just go to class take note and study them. you are stupid if you don't get B or above.

Whoever posted on 8/30/05 MUST be a real MORON cause this class could not have been any easier. NO homework,NO quizzes,NO essays,ALWAYS lets you out early. Just 2 grades: midterm & final, and what he lectures (which is always interesting) is EXACTLY what he asks on the exam. Show up & study yur notes for an A. Also, he's a really nice laid back guy
The person who posted on 8/30 must be one of those students at MSU who thinks a teacher/class is hard if you actually have to go to it to EARN a good grade. Gould is interesting and easy going. Show up and study and you will do fine.
This is the best teacher ever...he loves what he does and hes very approachable, dont even think twice
Gould is funny and makes the lectures really intresting. It's not a hard class, but you actually have to study before the tests. I really recommend this professor!
Prof. Gould is very interesting, and clear in his teaching.. Gives GREAT notes (everything on his tests are covered in lectures, so if you are attentive in every class, you do not need to read the text).. Only 2 grades - Midterm, and Final (exams are not bad at all if you prepare).. Lectures get a bit long, but its worth not having to read the text
great professor, dont bother to buy the book. his lectures are everything you need to know for the test. one midterm, one final. if you take good notes and study, its an easy A.
AMAZING PROFESSOR! he makes the class extremely interesting and he's funny too. you don't need to buy the book as long as you take good notes. just a midterm and a final, but make sure you study. great guy, loved the class
No attendence, no homework, just a lot of notes. His tests are the notes so don't bother buying the book. He's a great guy and makes the information seem interesting. Just a little studying required
great guy, very funny and easy class (highly rec if into history). Lots of notes so be prepared to write. Study notes and you are fine. He makes the class enjoyable and the more you put into it the more you get out of it. Easily one of my favortie profs.
He tells you that he doesn't care if you show up to class or not. I barely came and I barely passed the midterm. if you fail the midterm, you fail the class. He's a nice guy, if you go and pay attention you'll do well - if you don't..good luck!
Awesome teacher. Great at helping you understand the material. Go to class - he doesn't take attendance but the tests are mostly on the lectures, and if he knows your name its a good thing (class participation and all). Classes are interesting and he is very laid back. Get the book anyway - that way you can paricipate in class.
Good professor. He made the class interesting. The only grades were a mid-term and a final. He does not take attendence. If you study youll do good.
nice guy but hard class. i only missed 2 classes whole semester and studied and still received a D. If you are not a history major and not a good test taker i would not take him. only grades are the midterm and final. Lots of notes. Do not take him if you are just trying to fulfill some stupid history gen ed. only take if u r serious about hist
generally Nice guy. if you don't like history, he's not for you. even if you do, u still need to spend time with the material. jus the midterm n final. study your butt off, serously and go to class because you'll know the kind of questions. lots of notes... nice guy, not soo much approachable if your the shy type, but class participation is importan
I'm not a history fan, but he made it a lot of fun! He really really REALLY knows what he is talking about and the two exams are exactly from the notes (but you HAVE to study or you won't do well at all). He gives credit for participation, even if you are wrong, and loves joking around with the students :) Definately recommend him!
we all love you mr. gould!!! (you'r 8th grade class at hudson)
Must read chapters, take good notes. Mid Term and Final ONLY! Study from notes and participate in class. I enjoyed it, learned a lot from WWI to end of communism. Prof Gould is full of knowledge and will share stories of his trips to Europe.
This class is taught exactly how a college course should be taught... it's hard, but fair, and the professor does not treat you like you are still an eighth grader. There are two grades... midterm and final with NO papers, which is unheard of in most history classes. Could you really ask for a better class? Know how to write, and you'll be fine.
Really nice guy, keeps you in class until he is done lecturing (no longer). As long as you read the book, say a little something in class, and take notes you'll be fine. Two grades: final & mid-term. I highly recommend.
Great Professor. Knows his history and is helpful if you need it. Keeps you until he is done with the lecture and most ofthe time thats the whole period. Take lots of notes and the more you write on the final and midterm, the better. Two Grades, midterm and Final and he likes when people participate in class. Recommended
nice guy...knows his stuff. it's true what the other reviews say about taking notes. def take clear, precise notes and pay attention to what he says.
Listen to the other people when they say to take clear notes. If you don't, you're screwed. There is a ton of reading required and the two and a half hour class at 8:15 at night is torture. Maybe it's because i'm not interested in history, but the lectures were torture!
Professor Gould is a great guy, doesn't take attendance, but you should go to every class. Take clear and precise notes. He gives you a midterm and a final (be as detailed as possible.
One of the best professors I have had at MSU. You will need to attend every class, take detailed notes, and DO the reading, but you will learn a lot and do well on the midterm and final; no surprises. I definately recommend him to history majors/minors interested in a clear and concise history course.
Professor Gould is an amazing teacher who does not assign alot of reading, it is in the students best interest to attend every class because of the amount that is covered, yet he does not try to trick you during the midterm or final it is stright up, and he is someone who you can learn from even if you have no interest in his class i deff recomend
Professor Gould is an excellent teacher. his lectures are perfectly clear and he has no problem expalinging something if you dont understand it. as far as attending everyclass, thats not entirly true. i missed a couple of classes and got a perfect midterm score. also the reeading is not that important. you really do have to take good notes thoug
Great teacher!
He teaches political history. Those who are interested in the military details and the social aspects of history will be disappointed.
If you attend every class then the exams are a breeze. Tell him you are an aspiring history teacher and he'll love you forever. VERY sensitive about his rate my professor reviews.
May be the best professor I have had yet! No attendance policy, but you want to go to class. Course extremely interesting! Really knows the material, expert! Expect to take A LOT of notes, the more the easier the exam. Exams typically go into 2 blue exam books. Great class, great teacher. 2.5 hr class, no break but lets out early almost every time.
I loved Mr.Gould's class. He treats everyone like an adult, so you get what you put in. Going to class is not mandatory, but I have not missed one class yet because his lectures are extremely interesting and helpful. You only get three grades in this class, Mid-term, Final, and a Constitution Worksheet, so you have to study or you will fail.
AMAZING AMAZING TEACHER! He knows more about history than the rest of the department combined. So helpful. Midterm and final. No HW. No mandatory attendance. Laid back and jokes around. He treats everybody fairly and like adults. Can't even say how amazing of a teacher this guy is. You will love history after him, I mean it!
Professor Gould is by far the best history teacher I have ever had. Attendance is not mandatory but you should go to class every time to get good notes for mid-term and final. He is awesome!
Great teacher has a great knowledge of US history participate in class and take good notes and he is also very handsome
this class was a lot of fun. i only took it because i had to as a gen ed requirement but it was a lot of fun. even though its a lot of reading all you have to do is take notes and it is an easy gpa booster i recomend taking this class! plus no mandatory attendance
no attendance, no homework and no extra credit just a huge midterm and a huge final and the final counts more. that's all he basses your grade on two exams.
Previous comments are accurate: take notes, all material on the exams was previously discussed, attendance is recommended. Expect to be treated as an responsible adult. Kudos to Professor for his natural ability to breathe life into the material on a weekly basis. He is a true professional, passionate about history and teaching. Students have every
Phenomenal professor! Really cares for the welfare of his students, very nice, very funny, and really makes what can be such a boring subject entertaining. Which is absolutely saying something, as normally I'd rather get a root canal than take a history class.
I got an F in his class; i was surprise i couldn't believe he gave me not credits at all
He is a terrible teacher, very hard to pass his class, he has favorites, and no extra credit. I dont recommend him.
I took him for a contemporary europe class and he was pretty damn good. Smart guy who knows the interesting minutia that makes the history alive, even if the class was scheduled for 2 and a half hours every week
Amazing amazing amazing teacher! He knows everything there is to know about history! I learned so much about his class. Doesn't care about attendance but you should go cuz his notes help. The only thing that sucks about him is there are only 2 exams. Study hard and you should get an A. Don't take this if you don't want to put effort into studyin
Professor Gould is the man!! He only took attendance once which is the first day of class, and after that its you either show up or not. But I highly recommend on showing up because there is a significant amount of note-taking because there are only 2 tests for the class. The class is straight-forward and the dry humor keeps it interesting.
attendance optional, take good notes, only two grades midterm final, straight from notes. Very clear, learned alot. easy-going classes. Not boring at all. favorite class this semester.
AWESOME teacher. This was by far my favorite class this semester and I'm not even a history major. He's funny and makes the class interesting. The 2 1/2 hour class just flies by. Take notes! The readings in the text helps but the stuff he goes over in class is prominently on the exams. Go to class and study your notes and you'll be alright.
With no interest in history, this class has been on of the ones I've been most motivated for. He knows a lot about the subject and is interesting to listen to. Definitely have to study hard for the exams but it's really no problem if you take notes. He's a straight-forward and entertaining guy and I'm glad I got to take a class with him.
Made me interested in history!
Professor Gould taught the course with enthusiasm, and certainly demonstrated his love for the subject. Exams covered all the materials that was taught, and were fairly graded. I highly recommend Professor Gould, regardless of the course being taught. His sense of humor and knowledge make him an excellent educator.
He is the best professor on the face of this planet. He is always cracking jokes and made history interesting. You must study for his exams or else you wont do well. He is a great person to ask for help. No homework, 1 midterm & 1 final. Definitely recommend him to other people.
Great Professor, Knows what he's teaching, If you participate in Class he helps you on grading, Two tests, Mostly Short Answer and Essay, Explaining/ID historical people/events. Offers EC but it is offsite (historical Society Meetings in Morristown ) Very Easy going in Class HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Prof Gould is amazing. he knows his subject well. I got an A every time I took one of his classes and I would highly recommend taking him. he makes the topic very interesting even if you're not a big fan of history. you do need to take notes and study however to get a decent grade no papers or attendance for his class only a midterm and final
Professor Gould was one of my all time favorite professors! Although his class is long and you have to take a ton of notes, there are NO PAPERS, NO QUIZZES, and only TWO TESTS. Also, attendance is not mandatory AT ALL. As long as you take good notes (or have someone else take them for you) and study them before the two tests, it's a guaranteed A!
I am really happy that I took Professor Gould this semester. Even though the class was only a Gen Ed, it is obvious that he really cares and wants students to get something out of his class. I really appreciated his enthusiasm for the subject. Take Gould, he will not disappoint! Oh yeah, ask him about the Strait of Gibraltar, it's a good story
Taking Professor Gould was the smartest thing I have ever done. The class is late and long but it is worth it and he often times will let you out early. You can tell that he is passionate about his subject. The midterm and final are the only two grades but if you study your notes and write descriptive answers you will do fine! Would recommend!
Do not listen to the comments below... Yes there are no papers, quizzes, no mandatory attendance. If you are not the type of person to study a week or two in advance for his exams, don't bother taking this course. Gould penalizes you for a lot of the things you write in your exams so the more you ramble on your answers, do not expect a good grade.
Professor Gould is by far my favorite professor at MSU. Not only is he very knowledgable about History, but he is overall such an intelligent man. His lectures are like he is a telling a story which makes it easier to understand. As long as you read the chapter assigned and take good notes in class, the exams are a piece of cake.
Very knowledgeable, and respected this guy's class is like he is telling a story, lectures heavy but as long as you show up to class every day and not fall behind, you will pass. There are just two tests midterm and final (midterm has 6 weeks of material and final has 8) so there is a lot of memorizing but just make sure to study
Attendance isn't mandatory but you need to be there to pass, its enjoyable though. He teaches off talking but in an organized way so all you just have to write down what he says. Extremely cool and down to earth, makes learning history easier. Had no problem meeting with me when i wanted to go over notes, he explains everything! TAKE HIS CLASS!
Nice guy who tries to make history as interesting as possible. The class was a little boring at times, but I can say that no teacher will display the information more clearly than this guy. If you study for the midterm and final theres no reason not to do well.
nice guy and funny, but if history isn't your best/favorite subject you won't do well. only gives two exams throughout the whole semester, midterm and final. no opportunities for extra credit either. attendance isn't mandatory.
Take his course! He's brilliant and funny and knows his stuff. Two exams, that you have to study for, just pay attention in class and take notes. Participate and talk to him and you'll get enjoy his class!
Really great guy. Though he may seem difficult for some. To be honest just go to class and write down everything he says. It is only the midterm and final as grades.
Literary the best professor ever. I was scared to take him at first! There is 1 midterm and 1 final that is your grade. The textbook is not needed only if you want some points during class. The tests are all based on the notes, must take notes and pay attention to all the titles. Study all the notes , he knows his stuff !!!!!!
Im terrible at history and the worse is to have a boring professor. However, Professor Gould keeps the class interesting because he is very funny. He respects the students and keeps everyone engaged. Class grade is the average of 3 exams. Wont pass if you do not study after every class. Must work for your A. Would take again.
The hardest class that I have ever taken. He only gives you grades for the midterm, final, and participation. If you do not know anything about history, do not take the class. he has a sense of humor, but his lectures are 3 hours and he stays the entire class.
As a professor, he is great. Knowledgeable, effective, and gets the job done. But as a person, he is extremely rude! As someone with anxiety, going to his class was a nightmare because I'd always be nervous he would single me out or make rude comments. It was a challenge to put that aside and just focus on the class material.
His class is amazing and he's a really knowledgeable professor. His lectures are great and tell you everything you need to know for the tests. Attendance isn't mandatory but show up to class and you're guaranteed to pass.
He's an amazing professor. He's really easy to listen to when he lectures. Attendance isn't mandatory, you only need to show up for the tests. I suggest showing up for the lectures though because he tells you everything on the test. But even if you don't, he gives great study guides that carry you through the class.
Professor Gould was one of my favorite professors this year. His lectures are interesting and humorous, and he does a good job relating the material to his students. He gives you study guides 2 weeks in advance; as long as you use them, his exams are easy. Your grade is based entirely on just 3 exams, but put in the effort and you'll be fine.
Amazing professor!!! Really cares about students and is very fair in grading. I highly recommend to take this class, very interesting.
Professor Gould is a wonderful person who cares for you to learn and not just memorize. He makes the lectures fun and the readings aren't crazy but make time to read!!! Participate, show up to class, put effort into the discussion boards and you're set.
Professor Gould is fantastic! He makes history fascinating and shows a genuine interest in having students learn instead of just taking tests. There are no papers or tests, only a weekly discussion board of 250 words and a reply of 100 words. The class is usually only an hour and a half long. I learned so much more from this class than any class b4
He assigns discussion boards every week asking your opinion about a historic event which he covers in his lectures so don't skip his classes! He is very understanding and his lectures are very lively. Participation gives you extra credit, so be sure to participate even if you have no idea to his questions. There was no final or midterm btw!!
He is super sweet and if u have any questions he answers email fast, everything is pretty straightforward and he is nice, def take this prof.
Good teacher that cares about you and wants you to learn
I believe Professor Gould is a great professor. I wish there were more like him. He goes out of his way to talk to his students kindly and asks for our feedback. Professor Gould is also conscious of the work loud provided it was just enough so that I was actually learning and understanding the topics, but didn't overload his students.
He grades you with 12-13 discussion boards and as long as you meet the word requirements and answer the question he gives you full credit if you don't submit it on time he takes off points but accepts it late. Honestly best professor I had cared more about learning than the actual grading which oddly made me learn more.
Professor Gould has been one of my favorite professors so far at MSU. I had a really hard semester with personal life issues and instead of punishing me for having a hard time getting my work done, he worked with me. He really helped support me during this semester and I ended up passing the class when I didn't think I was going to. Take his class!
His lectures are awesome. He's always talking to people before class and tries to get to know them. He loves to add fun facts throughout the lectures. The whole semester for American History 1876 to Present is broken up really easily. You have to submit mini essays each week but no tests. Really discussion and lecture based class, which is my fave
Didn't take his class at MSU but I had him in seventh grade and he was one of my best teachers ever
Super chill teacher with great lectures! He made history sound interesting and made note-taking really easy. We have 2 weeks to complete homework assignments and there are no quizzes. No final exam either! Really enjoyed his class and the professor.
Didn't take the MSU class, but had him for US History and Human Geography in highschool. I've always loved the subject, but he really elevated that for me.
This class was one of the easiest classes I've taken at Montclair so far. You get a discussion question every 2 weeks and there's no midterm or final. If you want an easy A take him.
