One word for Hamilton, TERRIBLE! He was one of the worst teachers I have ever had! When 90% of the class is failing or passing with a low D it isn't just the student's fault. I studied my butt off so much that I had no life and still got a C in the class. He's too nit picky and doesn't teach well!

He is an average professor, the lectures are long and boring and the classroom is freezing, but all in all he knows what he is talking about and sticks to the point. Read your textbook, he will ramdomly ask questions to people he thinks aren't paying attention. The exams are hard so study even though he does include a wordbank. Do not take at 8am

HE IS A COLLEGE PROFESSOR. Big surprise, he's not going to baby you. People don't seem to get that, and whine about how hard he is. Pay attention to lectures, read the material, study what he SAYS you need to study, and study it right. That's all it takes. He's very clear, and very knowledgeable. He's amicable, with a subtle, casual sense of humor.

Unclear, confusing lectures. Expect to spend ~$50 on textbooks, then go to the library and photocopy 300 pages for the midterm and another 300 for the final. He refuses to put material online because he had to go to the library when he was in school. Expect to write a 9 page paper + endnotes and bibliography that will be graded far too harshly.

Hamilton is a standard art history professor. You won't have any other assignments aside from tests and a few 1word popquizes. His specialty is Georgian Furniture so he couldn't answer some of the indepth Qs I had about ancient art but he's straightforward and he tells you which images are going to be on the test. Takes too long taking attendance.

The review is an essay-like paper he writes, 2 pages long, with a list of 80 possible slides covering 4 chapters. There are only 10 slides on the test, 20 terms (that you have to guess at before hand) and 2-3 essays per test. You have a 1/8 chance at not remembering the slides you needed to. You have a 1/20 chance of not knowing the terms. Avoid.

Bottom line: Don't take this professor! He was difficult to understand, often went off on irrelevant tangents, and made a wonderful subject really boring. I struggled to stay awake in this class and even though the subject matter was fairly easy the exams were poorly written and difficult to pass. Tips: be prepared, read the book, and listen up.

If you have the chance not to take his class, don't. But if you're stuck with him, don't panic. Most people pass, but getting an A is difficult. The amount of extra credit he gives makes it possible to move up a letter grade. READ before EVERY class, it makes the lectures easier. Review everything on the study guide as if it's the most important.

Great content and presented well. Lots of discussion, which breaks things up over SCADs really long class sessions. Good field trip. I learned a lot and am very satisfied.

This was a great course on the Pre-Raphaelites (ARTH713).They are super interesting. Loved the readings and discussions. Professor Hamilton took a lot of time to help me with my paper and it paid off. I am an illustration major and was worried that it would be all art history majors and I would feel lost, but he made it great for all of us.

I don't really get the hate for him. The class is lecture-heavy, but I found him pretty engaging for having him at 8:00 a.m. You will have to take notes in class because his slides normally only include pictures, but he emphasizes important points. He didn't take off points for an assignment when I had to go home for a funeral so that was nice.

His class is entirely lectures. If you can learn that way and are able to take thorough notes then you'll be fine! For those that struggle with lectures, he does offer extra help sessions via zoom that is like a quick recap of things from class. The only thing that I hated was that your graded by a couple things :/. Overall it's a okay class :)

He was very unorganized and did not post the study guide on time or correctly when he did. His study guides have unimportant information on them. He is very soft-spoken and not always clear on what he means in class. He encourages feedback however will cut you off in the middle of your question or thought. His quizzes are all on paper in class.

Great professor! His teaching style is not for everyone, but if you take good notes, you should be just fine. Homework isn't much, just reading, and he provides a lots of ways to up your grade if you don't do well on quizzes. As long as you pay attention in the class, you'll be good.

Super qualified, it's great to have someone so knowledgeable teach but this course really depends on how much work you put into it. It's tough to know what he expects from an assignment through blackboard, you just have to be there and write notes. If he writes something on the board HIGHLIGHT IT! Really tough, but you'll learn lots if you want to

He's pretty nice and obviously knows what he's talking about, and I feel like I learned a lot... I usually found the lectures interesting but sometimes they were extremely boring. This class is DEFINITELY a challenge, so beware. It's possible to get an A, but it takes a lot of work. Most people got Bs or Cs.

Knows so much about the things we studied. Really fun approach to teaching through stories and relating old art to the world we live in. Super nice and helpful. He stresses engagement, so all you really have to do is come to class wanting to learn!

Hamilton was a great professor!!! Don't listen to the bad reviews. We wrote a one page essay the whole quarter and one group assignment. He gives opportunities to increase your grade. I barely read the textbook and still got an A, you just need to study from your notes!! Everything on the test is from the notes.if you put in the work you'll be fine

Nice guy, terrible class. This is a community-college-quality course with a SCAD pricetag. Every class is him reading off of slides for 2.5 hours straight. Most things on the tests are mentioned offhandedly mid-lecture and NOWHERE else. The study guides he gives are inaccurate as to what is on the quizzes. I love history, but he made me dread it.

Engaging lectures, though note-taking is key. Professor is knowledgeable, but class can be challenging. Utilize resources like study sessions and Unstuck study to prepare. Worth the effort if you're willing to put in the work.

Horrible. He only does physical anything, which messed me up because I have dyslexia and rely on a different font to be able to read. His tests are so confusing, and the study guides are even worse. I had a 2k word study guide and a Quizlet and I still failed each quiz and test. I would highly recommend switching.

I think too many people give him a hard time. He's a traditional professor. Yes the lectures are long and boring and his quizzes are a little difficult. The course itself is hard and you will not get a high grade if you don't study, I learned that myself. Professor Hamilton is a nice guy, he's pretty understanding and low-key funny.

He is an amazing professor in that he is very aware that he is teaching something that most of his students find extremely boring; he makes class as engaging as a history lecture can be. All of the quiz/exam material is covered exclusively in class. Hamilton is both great if you care deeply and great if you don't care at all. Highly recommend.

I honestly loved prof. Hamilton's class! I know that a lot of the feedback from others are a bit more negative but I found that students who struggled in this class did it to themselves. Yes his lectures are long and can get boring but I feel if you genuinely have an interest in art this is such a cool class. Lots of boring reading though but he

Genuinely, screw this guy. I was making the deans list consistently and now I'm probably going to lose my scholarship because of this dude. Please, if you care about your sanity, do not take this guy - especially if you're a bad test taker. There's no notes allowed on the test and most of the notes you have to find out with your own research. Run.

First off, the way he wants you to study for the quizzes is by writing an essay. You cannot get distracted for even a second due to him dropping heavily important information the textbook has not gone over that he puts in the quiz. Do not take his class if you must prioritize other work, he is unforgiving and ignorant to your other classes. Awful.

Pros: Knows his stuff, funny in a dry way, preps you for college Cons: You will not get your tests back permanently, they are reused, bit of a harsh grader Overall, you will succeed if you pay attention. He seems to like people who show up and participate in class. Also, study with classmates!. REMEMBER: Contrappasto!

His slides for his lectures are pretty much only pictures and that's all he puts on blackboard. So if you miss something or there's a gap in your notes your only option is to ask one of your classmates if they have it. He is a slow grader and gives unnecessarily hard quizzes. Get ready to study for hours and still fail the quiz.

Prof. Hamilton is great. Lectures are full of interesting stories about the art and architecture we studied. He doesn't just talk about ancient art. Relates it to today's world. Really interesting discussions, and he lets the students teach works from time to time, which helped me learn the material. I learned a lot about preparation. Very helpful

Do not take this class if you're a bad test taker. All quizzes/tests are no notes, written response. He tests purely on memory of vocabulary terms rather than development and application of ideas. Teaches off of blank side shows with only pictures of the art piece on them. He only teaches/quizzes you on architecture. Take lots of notes.

Professor Hamilton is a very nice and funny person who gives engaging lectures, until its time for a test where he gives you 100 terms, half of which are not on the study guide. I am a very good student, and he was the first B I got in 4 quarters at SCAD despite me spending hours studying. The quizzes are unreasonably hard. I would not recommend.
