Fun but hard
I took this class as a junior transfer student coming to UW from University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. Honestly, I think the reason why people tend to struggle is that this class is often taken first semester freshman year, where study techniques aren't as developed. If you put the time into studying, especially reading the textbook, it's not bad.
Henriques is very passionate about what he teaches. But, for such a test heavy course, too much of the test material is not included in lecture and expected to be learned outside of class. I had intended a psych major, but the way this class was taught actually made me change my mind.
He is super book heavy. I suggest you go into office hours before the test as he gives you extra info that is not provided in lecture or the book but will most likely be on the test.
Professor Henriques expects a lot from his students, but he also gives a lot to his students. He is very passionate during his lectures which keep the material engaging even for those who are not necessarily interested in Psychology. It takes a lot of studying to achieve a high grade, and take advantage of the extra credit.
Solid professor overall. Gets a little creepy sometimes especially when talking about Freud, but means well. The class is not curved, but you do have the opportunity for extra credit.
Good prof! Took class as a required Soc. Science and actually ended up being one of the best classes this semester!
Professor Henriques is a big believer in textbook reading. There is no way to succeed in his class without reading the entirety of the textbook chapters assigned. That being said, if you do so, the exams are very straightforward, and the textbook he uses is definitely the most interesting textbook I've ever been forced to read. A very caring prof..
The tests were REALLY tough, I studied a ton and found myself still doing pretty terribly. I have heard that all the other intro to psych classes have much fairer tests
Tries too hard to get students to like him. A much better professor when he just focusses on teaching concepts instead of putting on a show for his students.
Lectures are monotone. He'll point his laser at you if you're texting or talking in class, so be sure to pay attention. Tests are incredibly hard, even if you never skip lecture and read the textbook. At least he is enthusiastic about the subject.
He is rude in class and calls students out individually. The material he teaches in his class does not always match his exams. There is extra credit but it is very difficult to obtain.
Hard class but the teacher is engaging and funny and actually cares about the material. An enjoyable class to go to, very interesting and applicable to the real world. Recommend if you are willing to go to lectures and read the textbook.
Difficult class but the professor cares about what he teaches and generally wants everyone to understand the concepts. I didn't read the book once and all I did to study was take the practice tests online and I still got a good grade in the class. I went to every lecture but the test questions are set up to trick you
Henriques was alright. Lot of reading outside of class. Take very good notes both in class and outside of class. Write notes not only on what is on the powerpoint, but elaborate and write down what he says as well. The PowerPoint serves as a very vague outline. Then go back and memorize everything. Book and classnotes. Extracredit moves up 1 grade.
Professory Henriques is a very good lecturer and makes them exciting. He knows what he is talking about and has passion in psychology. However, the tests are very difficult. Going to the lecture and reading the textbook are essential but sometimes not enough to receive a good grade on the test. Overall good professor and lecturer but hard tests.
I think he does a good job at keeping you engaged in class with his excitement. In this class he does a good job at summarizing what you read, so if you happen to not have time to read due to other homework taking your time, you will still learn what you need for exams!
I really enjoyed learning from Professor Henriques. The subject matter can be a little dry at times but that's definitely not his fault. He obviously cares about the subject and about students' learning, and he's made awesome strides in how he presents course material. He definitely listens to feedback so don't be afraid to go and talk to him!
A lot of the material on the tests can be specific from the book and the lectures do not do an amazing job preparing for the tests.
He knows the material well, and has taught this class so many times he really has it down. Some assignments are tricky, but overall, the class is not overwhelming.
Professor H was really great at keeping the class interesting (as interesting as STATS can be). You can tell he really cares about the course material. However, a lot of the material on the tests is not discussed in lecture and it can be really hard to understand the book. In all it was a good course but you really have to work for a decent grade.
I like Dr. Henriques. Very funny, but tests are challenging.
He does a great job of keeping lectures engaging, as he genuinely wants students to understand and appreciate the material presented. Tips in order to succeed in his class are to actually read the textbook (it really does help) and do your best to attend all lectures.
Pretty good teacher even though the course is hard he makes it fun and actually want to come to class! Tests are hard but there is extra credit and the class is interesting.
He interacts with the class, responds to questions, and genuinely tries to help students understand the material he's teaching. He has a passion for the topic and it really shows. When he lectures he's incredibly animated. There isn't a dull moment, in my opinion.
Professor Henriques' lectures are straight forward, unfortunately the exams are difficult and the lectures and book do not always help prepare you for the exam.
He's a fine and very entertaining professor. I'd love to take his class again.
Lectures are very entertaining. Tests are hard but lecture heavy so if you take thorough notes and review/study your notes an ample amount before the test you should be fine. Take advantage of extra credit opportunities!
Great lecturer and is clearly passionate about what he does. He really like to keep students engaged through examples, jokes, and clicker questions. The tests are challenging, but I feel that I have learned way more psych in comparison to friends who have different professors. Extra credit is a MUST
Avoid him.
Hard tests but a great lecturer. If you attend class you will probably be pleased with his work. I would recommend reading the book but I studied with people that didn't that did alright. Again tough grader and hard tests but a great professor and well-respected guy.
Overall, he's a good professor. You can tell he cares from all the feedback he asks for. BUT, I got boned on an "article assignment" that was worth about 3.6% of my grade. Although not much, it's going to be the difference between getting a B and an AB. I did well on exams and still will get a B, which I feel doesn't reflect my understanding. Fun.
I took him for Psych 210 and thought that he was a good lecturer. He cares about the material and does what he can to make it clear to students. However, I felt that the lectures and readings do not always prepare you well for the exams.
His test is more hard than staff taught in lecture
your work will pay off in his class
This was one of the best professors I've had so far at UW. He was super engaging and made the (sometimes) boring material interesting. Whenever there was confusion in the class he stopped and made sure we were all on the same page before continuing. Highly recommend Henriques as a Stats210 professor!
I'm a nursing major and I tend to enjoy STEM classes more than social sciences so I wasn't super excited to take this class, but Professor Henriques seems genuinely excited about psychology which made it much easier for me to be interested in what he was teaching. Lectures have most of the information, but definitely read the textbook!
I don't like psych, but it's required for premed so I had to take this class. The prof is super nice and is genuinely interested in teaching and eager to explain things which made this class tolerable. Overall, it's easy if you read the text and show up to class sometimes (or find someone who takes good lecture notes).
Evident that he is very interested in and knowledgeable about what he is teaching. Don't use your phone in class, he'll use his laser pointer.
funny at times but the lectures were very long and boring.
My #1 complaint about Jeff is that he will stop lecture to chastise the students for talking. This is just annoying because 300 other kids are paying attention, and he stops class to point out the 2 that aren't. Other than that though, I enjoyed Dr. Henriquez's class. He knows the material and is passionate about teaching it.
Really great guy
Dr. Henriques is great. Fun lectures and speaks in a proper pace. 4 exams in total. Extra credits opportunities are provided so it is not so hard to get an AB, but you have to work really hard to get an A.
He tells you to read all the chapters but to be honest you can get a B with just going to lecture and paying attention but you still need the book for pre-lecture quizzes online. Henriques is really funny and super passionate which makes lectures fascinating. Attendance is not mandatory but you get points for using your clicker in class. Hard tests
Hard but doable class, should read and go to lecture
Mr. Henriques gives pretty good lectures because he is so interested in the topic, but he expects us to remember every single detail to every subject and psychologist there ever was for the exams
Dr. Henriques is a great professor. Many people try to avoid him because he is known for being one of the more difficult professors in the department. While this may be true, I really enjoyed the way he taught and presented material in class. The tests may be harder than average but are definitely doable if you spend time learning outside of class.
I thought he worked hard to engage the class in learning and applying the material to real world concepts. I found the tests difficult, but I know many people who did well so it was probably just me. READ THE TEXTBOOK.
He cares that people understand the material. Lectures are fun and content is interesting. You are expected to know the material very well for the tests.
Professor Henriques is passionate in what he teaches. A lot of concepts in class can be applied to other classes and outside of class. Exams can be challenging. You'll do well if you read the textbook carefully and attend lecture.
You will be expected to do prelecture quizzes about once a week. He's a pretty fair grader. The lecture material is pretty comparable to what is seen on the 2 exams and final.
This guy made lecture fun. He's very educated, but maybe uses that to his advantage a bit too much. His tests are insanely tough, and have a lot of questions about little things in the book. It sucks walking out of an exam thinking you didn't get anything wrong, but end up getting a C because of tiny details that make your answer barely wrong.
Do whatever you can not to get Dr. Henriques. His exams are so hard and are not curved. He tests on very specific things that you dont touch in class. Essentially, get ready to memorize hundreds of pages in a textbook, and put in more time to this 3 credit class than any other 5 credit class. Or, save yourself the misery and take a better professor
Some of the concepts are bit difficult to grasp fully, I would recommend going to his or the TA's office hours. He is a very good lecturer, so pay attention to your notes when studying. Before tests do practice problem that deal with numerical data, because the class is not just conceptual but also maybe 1/4 mathematical.
Professor doesn't care about the success of his students and does nothing to help. Reads off lecture slides and tests on things that were never mentioned in class and were briefly mentioned in the book. Very detailed tests that were unfair. Take this class with someone else 100%.
He is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Unfortunately, his tests are borderline unfair and designed to trip you up. He does offer extra credit but you'll still put in more time than most 3 credit classes in 202.
He's a good guy and cares about students. He provides good lecture slides that allow you to follow along. However, he requires textbook reading outside of class for uncovered material. He also has you listen to podcasts that will be on the exams. His tests are pretty tough, I think the highest I got was a BC. Go to class and study in advance!
Professor Henriques is a very caring and knowledgeable professor. He expects you to read the textbook in it's entirety. Some questions on his exams seem to have multiple answers that could work and others are facts or applications of definitions he gives. You need to work hard to do well but if you use resources provided an A is possible.
Class is really interesting, but alot of work. You have to read the textbook otherwise you'll miss a good chunk of the test. He freaks out when people are talking but otherwise a good lecturer. Good extra credit opportunities to boost your grade.
Henriques was a really great lecturer. He explained everything in a really clear way and made things easy to understand. However, his exams were both difficult and hard to prepare for. You never really knew what was going to be on the exam for sure. If youre looking for an easy A in psych, take a different professor.
By far the best lecturer I've had at UW-Madison. Henriques gets a bad rep. for doing his job well. He challenges students to learn on their own and apply concepts learned in class. Don't be scared away by the unfair ratings people give him. His exams are very tough, but he gives you all the tools necessary to prepare. Your success is up to you.
Lectures are actually interesting. Tests are hard but he provides plenty of resources to use and has a list of everything could be or won't be on the exam.
His tests are insanely hard and he doesn't mention anything during lecture other than the content he will teach. There is homework/readings/podcasts/quizzes that you are supposed to find on your own which he doesn't mention at all in class. Again tests are incredibly hard and focus on the most minute details for a intro class. Avoid at all costs
Overall, I really enjoyed Professor Henriques. He really knows what he's doing in this class. If you are struggling with the topic, you can ask him and he'll explain it in a different way that makes sense to you. BUT, be aware that although the lectures are a lot of math, YOU NEED TO BE AWARE OF THE CONCEPTS. The exams don't have a ton of hard math
He's interested in his field and knows what he's talking about. While his 202 can be challenging, 210 is much more reasonable. And gives good feedback during class or office hours.
He is a great lecture. Very humorous and patient to explain any ideas that students do not understand. Very clear about homework. Like to explain to people in details if they have trouble with hw
Show up to class. If you show up to class consistently you should do well.
Straight baller. Plays Tupac before class then absolutely feasts on stats for 75 minutes. This guy legit loves data.
Although he does rush a bit in lecture and messes up some calculations (very few), he knows what he is talking about and is a professor who is passionate about his work. If I were to retake his course again, I would definetly use his office hours because he seems like a guy who is pretty cool to talk to about statistics and understanding the topics
Professor Henriques is a fun guy! His teaching is very clear to follow and easy to understand. He likes playing music before class starts, and he likes wearing various kinds of ties.
Dr. Henriques really wants his students to succeed. He is always willing to answer questions too. However, I thought certain aspects of this class like labs and pre-lecture quizzes were very irrelevant to course lectures and exams. Also the homework was pointless, because we turned it in but never got it back.
Class is very lecture heavy, so it is important to go to lecture. Overall, I thought Professor Henriques was an effective teacher, he explained the material well and answered questions pretty thoroughly.
He gives great lectures, explains everything in a easy way to understand. Very funny and interesting to listen to. Very charismatic and is respected. His exams are difficult because he really tests how much you understand rather than how much you know. Hard to receive a good grade.
He is a great guy and always willing to help. How he grades is odd- tests are around 1,000 points. Also, you will get points taken off for the littlest things. Go to office hours, put in the work, and you'll be fine.
I believe that Dr. Henriques is a great professor. He answers every question asked and doesnt move on until everybody understands the material. Hes a very approachable guy and wants his students to succeed. The tests are fair. The only negative thing about this class is the lack of feedback on homework. I enjoyed this class overall, however.
If you dont show up to ass or read the textbook, youre not going to pass.
While he does a good job with his lectures, they are not closely enough related to the exams. Lectures give you a false sense of security and the exams tend to be overly specific. Questions in class are often not answered due to the professor not knowing the answer.
I really enjoyed psych, but this class is definitely not an easy A. I put in way more than 3 credits worth of time studying for his exams, which were very detailed and specific. He does offer extra credit, which is the only way I managed to get an A. If you aren't willing to put in the work, I'd recommend trying to get into a different lecture.
Prof Henriques is definitely a professor I would take another class from. He is full of dry humor and makes lecture interesting. He does go over a lot in lecture, so be ready to take lots of notes, and I can promise you that you will struggle if you aren't in class. He also makes his exams pretty difficult, so make sure you read and study lots.
He's tough, but if you put in the work, you'll do well. To succeed: Take detailed, specific lecture notes; thoroughly study every topic covered in lecture and/or listed in his outlines; and do the readings. For a class like this, flashcards are a good study technique. Do the EC to provide yourself with a good cushion. P.S. Quiz answers are online.
My least favorite professor so far. If you have to take Psych 202, please consider taking a different professor. I warned you!
Professor Henriques was okay. He always stressed that names and dates weren't important, to only focus on memorizing key concepts and maybe some major research, and then on exams would have several questions about names of the same people he said not to memorize. If you take his class you better write down everything he says, because it's all game.
very good. recommend
Tests are most important. Homework optional. Need to attend 1/4 of lectures for participation points. Textbook required for pre-lecture quizzes but only take 10 minutes. Application problems and article assignments important but few in number.
Henriques is PHENOMENAL. He was so energetic and showed a true passion for psych. The textbook is useful for the quizzes and reviewing challenging concepts. This class is not bad at all if you attend every single lecture. Also, I highly recommend PLA because it forces you to go back to the material, so you can better recall it on exams!
One of the best professors I've ever had at this University. Lectures that don't make me want to sleep through. Really enjoyed this, if you read and pay attention in lecture you will do well and he makes it interesting with. his dad jokes. Recommend!
Professor Henriques is a very nice person and his lectures are interesting and informative. His exams are WAY too detail specific. He gives you an outline of things you need to know for the exam and barely anything that was on it was on the actual exam. I studied weeks in advance and still received a low grade. Good luck if you have him.
Professor Henriques is a very nice person when you meet him in person, but he is not a good professor when you are a his student. You have to prepare for the class, and he does not teach well because he always omit some contents and he always posts announcement "Omitted one is on the book, so no matter."
Very nice man!!! I love his colorful ties (different in every single class). Will give feedback and the lecture is quite impressive. But the exam is tough for an elementary level course. Multiple choices only, but it is hard to decide the right answer. The highest score is 55 out of 60 in my class...
Very interesting lectures. Tests aren't too hard, especially if you keep up with the lectures. Henriques definitely knows his stuff and he explains everything very well in such a large lecture environment.
Henriques is a great lecturer and very knowledgeable, but his tests set out to trick students. He has questions about remembering specific percentages and things that aren't really content based. He's a smart guy, but I would avoid this class if possible.
Henriques is a good professor in that you learn a lot from him but overall his exams are very specific and you can put in hours of work to get BCs at best. Join a peer learning group if you can because they're a good way to review content. Also, be prepared to drop $40 on a clicker to get participation points bc he won't let you use the free app.
No surprises in Psych 202, Henriques is very clear on what you need to know, what he will test on, and what he will be covering. He's pretty upbeat and makes the lectures pretty tolerable and helpful. Staying on track with the readings and going to class is key. Henriques doesn't curve, but extra credit studies and online quizzes are free points.
Tests are extremely difficult and much of the stuff that's on the tests isn't covered in depth in lectures.
Exams occupy large percentage of your final grade.
This class is many based on exams which are EXTREMELY difficult even if you study for many hours on end and think that you understand the information. Does the class different than all of the other professors which is confusing. He is a very nice guy, but a tough grader. I would have liked the class if I did not have such a hard grader as a prof.
Tough class. Hard tests. Does not put lecture presentations online or videos of the lecture online. So you need to go to class. Has a freak out if phone goes off.
Henriques is an all-in-all OK professor. He is much more difficult than the other psych professors due to his exams surrounding information from extra podcasts, very specific facts from the book, and lecture information (which doesn't cover everything you need to know). In lecture, he's a great guy and informative. But his exams are awful.
Worst teacher ever. I would rather get up at 8 am to have an easier teacher than Henriques again. Avoid at all costs.
Final exam isn't cumulative, which is really nice. He's clearly super passionate about the subject, and he gives great lectures. He gives a good amount of opportunity for extra credit and such. A lot of people complain that his tests are too difficult, but if you go to class, do the readings, and take time to study, they're really not that bad.
This class was decently hard and you really have to stay on top of the homework - check for small assignments once in a while because he doesn't tell you when to do those. Also, literally ANYTHING that he says during lecture could be on the test, so you need to write down absolutely everything that he says - use a computer for sure (not longhand).
Henriques is just plain rude and has random outbursts of screaming in the middle of class. So passive aggressive it's a wonder that he even understands the material he teaches regarding why people act the way they do. You do have a lot of chances to get more points, including extra credit. Exams are difficult, go to lecture, do the readings.
He is passionate during lecturing and is willing to answer any questions during lecture. 4 non-cumulative exams including 60 multiple choice questions. He assumes that his students understand all of the points in the textbook and lecture, so the exams are really hard and require you to spend at least 10 hours to prepare.
Overall, Henriques is a good professor. He manages to make his lectures interesting, and he interacts with students through the iClicker which is very practical in big classes. However if you are concerned with getting good grades, I would avoid his class entirely because the tests are for lack of a better word, unfair. Good Prof, bad tests.
Gives solid lectures and overall there is little to complain about. If you took psychology in high school, Psychology 202 covers nearly the exact same material.
Professor Henriques was a great teacher! Although exams are a bit hard and points in the class are heavily weighted, overall a very effective instructor. He is very accessible at office hours and helps with projects.
There are 4 tests that account for 60 points each. The tests are incredibly hard and include info from both the textbook and lectures. So you cannot miss a lecture bc he does not post lectures or powerpoints. Test questions are very hard and very specific. If you want a good grade you have to put a lot of time into this class.
Henriques is a very smart man, and honestly his lectures are very interesting. His exams are very difficult, and even after lots of studying, it is difficult to get a good grade. 202 with Henriques is a good class, just hard. If you are not a Psych major, or overly interested in psych, take Green instead. 8:00 lecture with Green is worth it!
The tests got progressively harder. The questions are very specific or ask about weird scenarios. You need to study a lot and do a lot of practice questions. Henriques is very adamant about paying attention in class and will call you out if you text or talk during lectures. The textbook reading is very dry, but lectures are interesting.
The tests are incredibly difficult and often do not focus on big ideas, but rather little details he failed to mention in lecture or in podcasts. The content is very interesting, but if possible, I would recommend taking this class with a different professor.
Henriques is very passionate about psychology. Class seems tough because grades are 80% tests, but they aren't cumulative and are mostly applied memorization. With the half a letter grade bump from extra credit, its not that difficult to get a decent grade. Read the online textbook and take the review quizzes a lot.
Henriques can be quite the divisive figure due to his quirky lectures, heavy memorization tests, but if you want to get a solid grounding in this field, you should start with him. His 4 tests are non-cumulative but are detail-heavy and you need to rely both on textbook and lecture notes. He actually is a pretty nice guy but watch out for the um's.
Jeff was a good teacher overall. His class was easy to do well in, but hard to do amazing in. Lectures were fairly engaging overall and I would recommend attending them. At the end of the day he's a pretty average teacher, and an A is definitely obtainable with a little effort.
Lectures were good and overall was the best professor of my semester. His exams are just difficult and I require you to focus on everything in lectures and master your textbook material. If you put an effort in the class, it isn't difficult to do well and get an AB.
Chill and youll be ight
Henriques clearly knows psychology very well but has problems with the teaching part. The amount of work in this class was unbelievable and the tests were extremely picky. Also, turn off your phones because he gets really mad when they go off during class. If you can take a different professor, do it because their classes are a lot less work.
He was a fine professor. Did offer extra credit in numerous ways. Counted attendance through clicker. His lectures were actually very interesting. The exams were a little hard just because the questions were both very broad and too specific.
Henriques is known to be the hardest psych 202 professor and while I feel this is true, I actually learned more psych than my peers who were earning an easy A. Henriques is very generous with extra credit and understands that he is a hard grader. His class is NOT cumulative, and he is very accessible outside of class.
this class is very manageable, the tests are difficult but if you listen to the podcasts and take the online review quizzes you'll be fine. Also, most important thing for exams is to attend the TA review session- so helpful. professor is knowledgable and lectures with helpful slides in the background. not a lot of reading required
He's a pretty good professor, but the 4 tests are way harder than they need to be. If you take the practice quizzes multiple times and review all notes from lecture and the textbook, you'll be ok.
Not bad, his tests are very challenging but there is extra credit that bumps you up a whole letter grade. Jeff also claims he doesn't curve, but he curves at the last minute before grades are posted. This was my blow off class and I got an A. Not as bad as everyone says. Also, beware of dad jokes.
He was the most boring person to listen to. Also, his test questions were extremely difficult compared to his practice tests and his notes.
It is a must that you attend class everyday so you can take notes on his lectures that you will then be tested on. Then you must read the textbook chapters and study that material. The tests consist of knowing the vocab and applying the concepts to made up scenario questions. He is not lenient when it comes to discussing your grade.
Professor Henriques is very knowledgeable about psych 202 and he is also very passionate, which makes the class more interesting. There are required quizzes over each new topic covered in class. Overall an interesting class and Henriques was very engaged.
Very interesting class, also pretty tough. The exams are detailed, so prepare well for them. Otherwise, the material was very interesting and I loved the style of lectures
He was very clear with his teaching and always gave all of the information that you needed for the exam clearly in class. Make sure that you take good notes on what he says and how he says it otherwise you wont do very well.
Overall I enjoyed his class. His tests really aren't as bad as everyone says. If you study for them and take time to understand the different concepts you'll be fine.
Jeff gives great lectures and is pretty funny! However, slides weren't posted so you have to attend. Also, he goes kinda fast so it's a mentally draining class. Tests were somewhat difficult so read the textbook and take the practice quizzes on canvas (lots of questions straight from quizzes). Also, take advantage of the extra credit
Once you get over some of the weird and awkwardness of him he's not a bad professor. The lectures are very quick and jam packed, but help to facilitate learning. He is very passionate and knows psychology very well, but sometimes tries to hard during lecture. Tests are difficult but overall if you attend lecture and study you will do fine.
Jeff is a great lecturer, fascinating. Tests are ridiculously hard, but the extra credit really helps. Truly passionate about psychology. I recommend joining a PLA group and actually reading the textbook. Go to class also, lectures are enjoyable!
Jeff is such a gem! He's enthusiastic, makes (ok) jokes, and loves answering questions during lecture. His tests aren't as hard as people make them seem - just start studying a couple days in advance. The readings are long and can be tiring but if you read the book you'll already know the concepts for lecture. Do the extra credit and you'll be fine
Really great professor but the material is hard to grasp. MUST read the textbook chapters assigned; there are online quizzes each chapter based on the readings and lectures also cover the same material. I found it easiest to read ahead of time, then I was learning for the 2nd time during lecture.
If you want an easy A's on PSY 202, take Green's. If you really want to learn something, stay with Prof. Henriques. He requires a lot of reading, and the exams are hard, but still a great professor!
Dr. Henriques is really passionate about the material. He makes you read the textbook chapters before lectures (and quizzes you on them, so, yes, you actually have to do it) and its super helpful! The exams are hard, but there are practice quizzes that are SUPER helpful. Just make sure you don't miss any assignments because every point counts
It's simple. Professor Henriques tells you basically every class how to be successful in this course. Read BEFOREHAND, quiz yourself often, and DO THE EXTRA CREDIT. I made the classic student blunder of thinking I could be outside of this advice, so I skipped a few classes, missed a chapter or two of reading, and received an AB. Don;t do this.
Not sure how anyone could rate this guy well. He's an absurdly unclear and difficult grader, and makes his class intentionally difficult (just check the gpa distribution compared to other 202 teachers). He expects you to know an entire course-worth of information not discussed at all in lecture. Aside from this, he's simply an unkind+harsh person.
He does an amazing job prepping you for his tests - suuuuuper fair tests
Tests are impossible, be ready to know 100 topics and definitions per test. Pay attention in class most tests questions don't come from his slides but what he's saying. Also will trick you on tests on the wording of questions
He is a good professor and wants you to do well. However, the tests are very hard and worded in confusing ways.
Only prof so far that has required me to read a 500+ page textbook in a semester and will specifically test you on nit-picky details from the text but never mention in lecture. However, he made lectures enjoyable and helped out with practice problems. Take notes on what he says (he provides an outline w/ the slide info) and do the EC.
I disagree with the negative feedback on here for prof Henriques. He is the best lecturer I've had by far. While the course is difficult, he makes it clear what you have to do to be successful. Make flashcards and do the extra credit and you should have no troubles with his class. Overall, a great professor.
Professor Henriques does a great job of making the grading criteria clear and lectures interesting. He does a good job of making sure that questions are answered about material and he also uses a clicker during class so that we can have an idea of what we do and don't understand. Overall would recommend.
I've had experience with Professor Henriques for Psych 202- not the greatest reviews. However, this was his first semester teaching something other than psych 202, and he did great! We covered a ton of material, but he made sure to be very clear on what material we needed to know to succeed. The lectures were fun. Great guy.
As an AnSci major who only took this class for a social sciences credit, I really liked Henriques! He was fair in his lectures and answered every question you had for him.
I absolutely would not recommend this professor. This was his first year teaching my class and he was a bit scattered. He can be funny at times but he's doesn't pace the class well. Be prepared to have a lot of work and 80-100 textbook pages to read almost every week.
I have never had a worse teacher. I have had to study more than ever for this class, and I have done worse than I have ever done in any class. The tests are ridiculous and he doesn't spend much time teaching the parts that are hit most heavily. The tests are trying to trip you up, not test your knowledge.
There's a lot more required reading than I expected and notes from lectures should be fairly detailed to do well on exams but the lectures are very interesting.
Rambles in lecture and it's always unclear what information or examples are important or not. I literally got more information from reading the textbook than I did from going to lecture. Assignments are undated and sometimes straight up inaccessible on Canvas, making doing all the homework a nightmare. I always felt like I was missing something.
I really liked this professor. The lectures were very interesting and he had required podcasts that were apart of the exams. I did not really read the textbook but did well as long as you took detailed notes, reviewed them often, and listened to his interesting podcasts. He make lecture very fun, he was goofy, and you could tell he is passionate
This semester with this prof killed my interest in psych. Lectures were unengaging and often confusing on what you need to know. If you don't pay attention to every single word that comes out of his mouth + attend all clicker sessions + read the textbook you're out of luck. Difficult tests, no curve, and too much work for a 3 credit course.
Henriques is a great professor. He's both knowledgable and an interesting lecturer. He definitely is a harder professor however. His tests were all multiple choice which at least for me made it a lot harder. He does however offer a large extra credit option which was easy and a great grade booster. Overall, not bad, just kinda difficult.
He is a really nice guy. I wish he had shorter and more specific lectures. The exams are very challenging, but there are enough extra credit opportunities to improve your grade by one level (e.g. AB to A). Perhaps, that's why his class is so hard. ;-;
Very interesting guy but tough tests
Honestly made me never want to take a psych class again
Course work is heavy
Henriques is a solid professor for those who are interested in becoming psych majors or just in the subject itself. For students like me not as interested in the major, it's a bit of a grind with confusing and un-curved tests. The only reason I did fine was due to taking AP Psych in high school last year. A very nice man with rigorous standards.
I would not take Professor Henriques for this class. He is statistically harder than all the other psych professors, and this is because he tries to trick you on the exams by testing on very minor topics and the confusing wording of questions.
Professor Henriques is great; his lectures are entertaining (online). He is very passionate about psychology and genuinely cares about student learning. I am a psych major and need to retain course info for the future, therefore I didn't mind all the reading and work. HIS COURSE HAS A LOT OF WORK, but if you do it, you will do very well.
Literally every question on every midterm was a trick question. Get out of this weed out class.
this semester with Professor Jeff is literally a nightmare. He is always unclear on important concepts and his test can cover every detail. Hopefully, you can boost your grade up with extra credits. Not a wise choice though.
Overall a very hard class. You have to be on top of all your work just to be able to do "well" in the class. His teaching style is very hard and does not explain things clearly. Would not take this class if you don't have to
He was a terrible teacher and I learned nothing from him. One of the worst professors ever. His grading is also terrible he tries to trick you on every test and is not nice at all.
nice dude. horrible prof. the amount of information he expected us to memorize was ridiculous. out of 300+ kids and 4 exams only ONE student got 100% on ONE exam. class was in an online format to make matters worse and the students and TAs had to beg him to curve it. he has a horrible avg grade, there are many better psych profs out there.
I took him online for fall, and it was one of the hardest classes I had this past semester. Tons of lecture content which you had to watch because the smallest details of it were on the test, and the tests were extremely hard. He did not implement a curve until nearly the end of the semester and he would not change it even after the final.
Dr. Henriques' course was not difficult. The lectures were interesting and engaging and the course was very well organized. The tests were fair and typically not very difficult. He provided a lot of opportunities and study materials that, when used, pretty much guarantee you an A in his class. He is serious, but that made it easy to pay attention.
Henriques is helpful and accessible outside of class, but is not the best instructor. I took AP stats in HS, so I breezed on by, but I know many of my peers struggled. Course content is interesting but difficult to grasp. Grades come primarily from exams, with pre/post chapter quizzes, application problems, and labs too, which help for review.
Lectures are extremely boring. Too much material is given in ratio to what we're actually tested on. Lots of trick questions on exams. He made no accommodations for switch to online learning; It was extremely stressful keeping up. Need lecture notes AND textbook notes to ace exams. Overall too much is expected for an intro course as a freshman.
Psych 202 with Henriques was one of my more difficult classes this semester, but in my opinion he was worth it. He makes you work in the class, but he also makes sure you know the content through and through. He genuinely wants his students to understand the material (test corrections), as well as he ended up curving the class due to being online.
The class was difficult in terms of grading/nitpicky about what you have to know for tests. But, in my opinion, he was a great professor. He uses many examples in lectures to connect the material to real life which makes learning much easier. Also, if you do the extra credit quizzes your grade goes up by a ton in the last week.
Compared to the other profs for 202 (from what I've heard and other students have heard) Henriques is the worst option. His online lectures are pre-recorded and are triple the length of the normal lectures. The tests are proctored and don't always align with what is taught. He said "I may not teach something, but it stays on the test." good luck
Heavy workload and sometimes test on the things he never talked about
Not very understanding of what is going on with the world around us so he did not help us with improving grades.
He makes the exam extremely difficult and does not ever want to talk about the test after the exam. I studied so much for his exams, and he never prepares you for what he asks on his exams. You literally need to read EVERY sentence of the textbook, and sometimes it is still not enough because he misleads the question even if you understand the conc
This was an extremely difficult online class. It was asynchronous and didnt have any real assignments, just quizzes and exams. Quizzes were strange as is pre lecture quizzes only gave you four tries and his post lecture quizzes were unlimited. There was a lot of material to be closed book and honorlocked exams. Take Greene instead
Prof Henriques is fine. But there's often problems with his class. He loves to say that he'll ask plenty of questions about stuff in the textbook even if we don't cover them in class, and his exam questions are often needlessly confusing or vague. My best advice is, don't NOT take the class if he's the only option, but if there's someone else...
Professor often has no regard for the fact that you have other classes to get work done for. On the first day of class, the professor brags about how most students struggle to get above a 70% in his class and he refuses to curve the class till the last minute. His exams are very specific and require every detail to be memorized no matter how small.
The key to doing well in this class is to read the textbook and take notes on textbook material. Most times Prof Henriques doesn't go into the same detail that the textbook does, but still tests you on it. If you read the textbook, take notes on the textbook, add some lecture notes and take the pre-post lecture quizzes, you will do fine
Henriques is fine. He's a bit of an oddball, but that's just who he is. My biggest piece of advice is to take notes and study them. Take notes on all of the readings and lectures. We used Honorlock this semester, so make sure you start to review a week in advance because you won't be able to use your notes. Exams are harder than practice quizzes.
Honestly didn't enjoy one aspect of this class. He seems like a nice guy, but honestly take any other Psych 202 professor than him. His lecture needs a large amount of work because they go over the basics of the content which isn't remotely close to what you will actually be tested on. I strongly advise to take someone else.
Henriques is terrible at time management and never seems to get through everything he intends to in class. He lacks the ability to be introspective and receive feedback. Every little detail he mentions or is in the extensive readings could be on the test. Doing well in this class will require far more time than it should based on credit hours.
Hands down the BEST psychology professor I have had here at UW-Madison! Can't say enough amazing things about Dr. Henriques! He is so smart and kind, and makes class really fun and humorous. He uses real-world examples and really knows his stuff. He is super caring and always interacts with students. DO. YOURSELF A FAVOR AND TAKE HIS CLASSES!
He is such a nice person! He is always patient and helpful. You can really learn a lot from his course. However, it is kind of hard to get an A based on many required readings and some tough exams. If you like to learn more about psychology, I believe that prof Henriques is a great choice.
Jeff teaches a great course, but somehow makes learning abnormal psychology boring at times. Exams and pre/post lecture quizzes make up your grade along with some assignments relating content to real life. Reading the textbook is exciting, but it is hard to stay engaged in his dry power lecture besides when the clicker questions are asked.
He tests on very specific things in the text book that are literally 1 sentence and you feel like you don't need to know. You are also forced to memorize prevalence rates that literally change so often the the textbook rates and his slide rates don't even match.
Abnormal psychology with professor Henriques was one of my favorite classes I have taken at UW Madison. The class material is extremely interesting, and the lectures simplified many complex topics. This course does have heavy reading, but as long as you work hard you are likely to do well.
Henriques is a solid professor who tries to make lectures enjoyable and clearly cares about his field. Class has a lot of little homework assignments for easy credit, but tests were graded pretty difficult so make sure you're paying attention in class and reading the textbook.
Henriques is a funny guy, and he definitely knows his psychology. The problem I (and most other students) had, was the way he words his questions for quizzes. He'll tell you in lecture that you don't need to know something, but it'll be on the test. Questions would be specific stats and facts from the textbook...?? Students don't need to know that.
"Dr." Henriques probably should look for a new profession. His lectures are what I look forward to the least every single week. The lectures are extremely boring, as everyone struggles to stay awake. He doesn't engage effectively, and drones on. He also uses a microphone in class and 70% of what you hear from it is him struggling to breathe in air.
Tests are way too hard compared to what you learn in class and whats in the textbook. Far too specific and pointless.
I would avoid Professor Herique's class like the plague. His lectures are boring. The exams are awful(average score around a 70)and way harder than the class. The study guides don't match the test. He also doesn't post the answer key so you have no idea if you're studying the right thing. There are other red flags that I don't have space to explain
Henriques is a great prof, he is a great lecturer and I would recommend taking this class, from what I have heard he is better than a lot of the other Psych 202 professors. I would recommend. Tests are super hard but not impossible and reading the text book is important but if you do the work it is a really interesting class.
He is way too general in terms of what he actually does and does not want you to know for tests. If you fail one test, you pretty much fail this class. I can't manage to catch any breaks in this class, and this class will probably be what prevents me from making it further into what I want to do here. Thanks a lot, oldie!
This was the worst class that I have ever taken. Test questions are absolutely ridiculously hard and are based off of abstract things mentioned in lecture. Be prepared for a lot of stress.
The tests are extremely difficult! Don't take this class ever. Doesn't make the class interesting at all. Lecture slides are difficult to understand and he gives questions on tests that are never taught.
Lots of quizzes
Psychology is not supposed to be a difficult class. Henriques tests are so difficult that if you have not memorized the textbook word for word, youre screwed for tests. Biggest word of advice, take psychology with any other professor than him if you care about your GPA.
A crazy amount of lecture material and the exams were vague and super difficult. Don't take his class if you don't need to
The most accurate review on here is the one that says avoid like it's the plague.
This guy is getting too bad of a rap. He's pretty funny, very knowledgeable, and includes things we actually discuss in class on the tests. A lot of the people on here are complaining about having to go to lecture AND read the textbook isn't that what college students are supposed to do? He's really helpful in office hours, all-around good guy.
Jeff does get too bad of a rap. I'm not sure why people are so harsh on him, but I have found the lectures to be engaging and entertaining. Henriques is a good speaker, and accurately gives expectations for the class. Tests weren't that bad and accurately reflected material in the textbook and in class.
he's a good teacher. He really lets his personality come out in class which helps keep the class engaged and interesting. The class is hard, but that's just what comes with weed-out classes.
I loved class with Dr. Henriques. He definitely makes you work for your grade, but overall he genuinely cares and wants his students to do well.
First day, he said: "it is pretty difficult to get an A in this class," which should not be the case for an intro level class. The exams are extremely difficult. I read every single chapter, attended every lecture, and studied for hours/days but still did mediocre on the exams. I guess try and memorize everything in the book. Stay away if you can.
Professor Henriques is very knowledgable in what he teaches, but his lectures can be very boring. Lots of material covered in class won't be in the textbook (and will be present on the exam), so showing up to lecture is super important. Test questions are purposefully tricky (many answers could be correct), so make sure you REALLY know the material
Henriques is a quirky but nice guy. Tests are actually pretty difficult, no matter how much you study/prepare/attend office hours. He tries to make lectures engaging and fun, however, it was hard to stay awake in his class.
Henriques lectures are very engaging and the tests arent that bad if you keep up with the textbook readings. Id highly recommend taking psych 202 with him if your willing to put in the minimum effort of reading the textbook and going to lectures.
Dr. Henriques made Psych202 one of the most difficult classes ever. Unless you memorize everything he says word for word its basically impossible to get an A. His lecture slides are very dull and he says "Uhm" WAY too much (once you notice it becomes painful). The review quizzes are pointless because there are topics that arent covered on the exams
Henriques is a great lecturer and they make sense if you pay attention. You can tell he's a smart guy, but he doesn't set you up for tests super well and reading the book is basically mandatory if you want to do well on tests. Also, go to class because he does clicker questions for attendance.
Avoid professor Henriques if you're not a psych major and looking to get a good grade in psych 202. I found his lectures to be pretty boring and his tests were pretty difficult . He is knowledgable though no doubt, but he is making an introductory level course way more difficult than it needs to be.
Dr. H is a good professor. But the other comments are right; he makes the tests more difficult than what they need to be for an introductory course, as well as including direct quotes/questions from the book that you definitely would gloss over while reading. Piece of advice: go to his office hours! He is more than willing to answer your questions!
Henriques is very knowledgeable in Psychology and tends to explain the material pretty well. He is pretty hard to keep up with in lectures. Like other comments have said, tests are really hard so you definitely have to work for a good grade. Stay on top of textbook readings and study in advance of the exams. The class does have some extra credit!
He is a very nice and understanding professor and does a good job keeping students engaged in lectures. However, compared to other psych teachers I have heard of his tests are very difficult. Had to study a ton just to get a B on them. There is extra credit though!
My friend took psych202 with Green and it seemed like we were not even taking the same class. One of us came out loving psychology and one of us came out hating it. I was the later. He is a good professor but the lectures are long and you definitely have to put in the effort to remember the information. Definitely read the textbook.
Exam's were so hard and it was nothing like the context in class. Class average should not be a B for an intro class.
Exams were much harder than quizzes and content discussed in class
Amazing teacher! For how long the lectures are he definitely tries to make them interesting. If you want an A read the textbook.
There's a lot of information from the textbook he doesn't teach but will show up on exams. Lectures can be boring but he posts them a week later. Extra credit is not that hard and can bring up your grade a lot.
Henriques is overall great, but he often likes to include questions on exams (which avg. 70%) that we did not cover or he previously said we wouldn't need to know. Homework is minimal, but be prepared for lots of reading and definitely take extensive notes in lectures. Take advantage of extra credit (it's easy) and study hard - you'll need to.
He really cares about the material and you can tell that it interests him. he was my favorite professor so far. He provides a lot of opportunities for you to get a good grade including extra credit. EXAMS ARE WORTH THE MOST THOUGH BY FAR, listen to his study advice and you will be fine
It is fair to say that Professor Henriques is not capable enough to teach an intermediate level class in college for he does not demonstrate adequate skills in structuring the class in a study-friendly platform and does not use exam as a vehicle for reinforcing learning, but instead uses exams as merely a mandatory portion for school.
Take Abnormal Psych with Henriques!! Before I took this class with him, I heard that he was a tough professor, but after taking this class with him, I am definitely going to take another. As long as you pay attention to the lectures and read the textbooks, it is an easy A. Another nice thing about his class is he records/posts lectures if you miss.
I've taken both stats and abnormal with Henriques and they've been the two most boring classes I've taken here at UW. You learn basically nothing and yet his classes have an insane amount of busy work and readings. I feel bad writing a review like this because he seems like a chill guy but I genuinely hated these classes
Dr. Henriques is not clear at all about exam expectations. He just takes the learning objectives from the textbook as a "study guide" and posts review quizzes that aren't really that helpful. You're expected to remember random details from the book or lecture he doesn't put on the slides, which is pretty annoying.
I love Prof. Henriques. You can tell he's passionate about the topics and his slides are well organized. He knows the info well and makes lectures interesting with participation questions. Exams are heavily dependent on reading the book. You have to memorize percentages, but it's not too bad.
The professor never teaches you new material during lectures and he bases all of his questions for quizzes off of quizlet. He is never specific about his exams and asks very absurd questions that you were never prepared for. Reconsider taking a different class with a different professor before having Professor Henriques.
90 percent of what is on tests is only available in the textbook
boring.. didn't like... he made too much eye contact with me.. hated going to lecture
Prof. Henriques is really passionate about the subject and involves the class. What he teaches is consistent with the textbook, so reading the chapters will be helpful for exams. Exams are a bit tough but they're pretty fair. He's a funny guy and understanding - definitely would take more courses
Lecture attendance is highly recommended for this course, if you have Henriques as your prof. Each lecture you will work on a worksheet with a group, and putting effort into solving the problems and working with your group is super beneficial. Henriques was incredibly caring, would highly recommend taking courses with him.
A caring and respectable prof overall but uses too much "ums" and stumble too much during lectures which can be very distracting. Tests are 95% textbook and 5% lectures. Everything from lectures can be found in textbook and some questions on tests are very arbitrary. Get ready to do lots of reading; does pre-lecture quizzes and learning curves.
Great, tests are difficult.
He is a great teacher and really cares about you! He is really dedicated to the classes he teaches! It is a bit challenging but he does a great job of making it interesting.
Great professor, the class itself is difficult. Lots of quizzes, projects, and exams. Attendance is necessary for lecture and lab. I do enjoy how he teaches, I am taking him again next semester. He does practice problems in lecture to help make sure everyone understands.
Really enjoyed Henriques. Lectures are super interesting and make you actually want to show up for class. Tests are difficult. Course is comparable to an AP class level of difficulty. Very good at teaching material. Make sure to do all the (easy) extra credit opportunities and you'll get a good grade.
I absolutely loved Henriques lectures, but the tests were way too hard. He was very passionate about every topic and kept me engaged in every lecture.
Henriques is a great lecturer, personable, and creates a great class environment. His tests, though, are unnecessarily difficult. He asks obscure questions with answers that are sometimes pulled out of the appendix and a lot of material is never covered in class that is heavily tested.
Even though Psych202 with Dr. Henriques is a very difficult class, I loved being in it. He is an amazing lecturer and makes class super entertaining. There is a lot of out of class reading, but his lectures make up for it. He doesn't record the lectures, so attendance s crucial to getting a good grade. Exams are more based off lectures than reading
A professor that is very passionate about the subject, and will answer your questions whenever possible. But you will need to read the textbook as the tests are quite difficult. There is a 15pt extra credit opportunity and a considerable grade cushion with participation points but other than that, the tests composes of 216/300 total possible pts.
Henriques was decent. He mumbles throughout lectures sometimes and can be quite boring at moments but overall exams were fair, which in turn made the class fair. I thought some out of class assignments were unnecessary and busy work. I wished lecture slides were posted or recorded since it can be overwhelming to get all material written at once.
It is a miracle that people praise this class. Lectures are boring, and homework is tedious and repetitive. Tests are unnecessarily difficult and going to class was probably my least favorite part of the day. Take any other professor but him unless you want to live in sad regret every day.
Henriques is an AMAZING lecturer. The only downside was the fact that the exams were difficult compared to other instructors teaching this course. It is definitely possible to do well on the exams, but you will need to put quite a bit of time into studying. I would 100% recommend Henriques to anyone willing to put in the extra studying time.
Every review says the tests are way too hard, and an A is very hard to get. I went into finals with nearly 100% though, and only studied the day before exams. If you go to every lecture and take good notes, and read there textbook*, there is no way you shouldn't get an A. You can also raise your grade by a full letter grade with extra credit,
Seems to really like teaching the class. He'll go back a slide and reexplain a whole bullet point if he's asked. Puts lots of energy and enthusiasm into lectures. Makes helpful review quizzes for every unit, and uses his psych knowledge to explain the best ways to study. Exams are all multiple choice, and no surprises. Pretty good class!
Awesome lectures, made it very fun to come to class. Lots of reading/studying outside of class along with notes during lecture. Many questions on test where covered with only one sentence in lecture. Final exam was very challenging, questions worded very difficultly.
this professor is probably the worst professor at uw madison. although some of his lectures were intriguing, there was so much information that needed to be written down. his tests were incredibly unfair and were meant to confuse you. he will never accommodate you when you need to take a test early or late. he was rude and showed no remorse.
i despise jeff. this class gave me so much anxiety solely based on how much information was taught in the lectures and how all of that information was going to be on an exam. he was rude and had no mercy for kids wanting to take an exam early. i would rather jump off a cliff than take any of his classes ever again. his exams are meant to confuse u.
Henriques was decent but made the class unnecessarily difficult. He is very knowledgeable on the subject and his lectures are interesting. Exams are worded weirdly and are meant to confuse you. Make sure to read the textbook and use his practice exams. Don't rely on your grade throughout the semester, it won't be what you expected.
Prof Henriques was a very eccentric teacher and you could tell that he really was trying to make them as entertaining as he could, but for the most part, I thought that lectures were regurgitations of the textbook. The tests seemed like it was all taken straight from the textbook, with a few questions about specific examples he made in lecture.
Math, let alone stats, really isn't my cup of tea but taking stats with Henriques helped me understand the concept. He does try to attempt to interest you in the topic, which can be helpful. If you are unsure of something, ask and he will re-explain it for you. Tests are a major part of your grade and have a lot of content, so read the book & study
I took psych 202 during my first semester at UW, I thought it was an incredible class. The lectures are required, but they were so interesting and I enjoyed going to them. It is crucial that you pay attention and can learn during lecture, because the information presented in lecture is NOT posted online again. Tests were challenging but fair .
Professor does not share his slides and makes his grading out of a certain amount of points. There are a lot of areas for extra credit and participation. However, dedication and time outside of class are needed to pass. Memorization is required since all exams are application based making it somewhat harder.
Great lectures and no real need to read the textbook, even for pre-lecture quizzes (can be found online). Not much homework, only complaint is that tests can be very difficult and super specific from lecture material.
Henriques has a very structured teaching style that keeps students involved while also being straight forward. He is very clear on how his grading works, and he has many resources to help study for exams. While he is a great professor, in order to get a good grade in his class I 100% recommend you read the textbook and regularly attend lecture.
I took intro stats for psych students with Prof. Henriques and thought his teaching style made the topic super approachable (I'm not a math person)! I had to attend all the lectures to get the concepts, but I did not do many of the out-of-class readings and thought the workload was very reasonable. He was incredibly sweet and I highly recommend!
You would think that Prof Henriques is a nice man and this experience will be a good one. Nope. Henriques tests are BS. Not because they are hard, but because he pulls random useless facts from the book while making us memorize statistics that we will forget after the final. An example of hard but fair is Thoma's Bio 101 course. 405 is not fair.
I've taken Henriques before and he was just as good, if not better this time (probably because I liked the content more). A lot of homework, but it actually helps you prepare for the exams. Exams are alright, maybe a little too difficult, but not really awful. You gotta know your stuff. Fun lecturer!
I love Jeff !! he's a cool guy and he makes funny jokes during the lecture. I'd say the tests for abnormal were pretty fair too. good class overall
One of the best professors I have had! Take his courses!
I LOVED this class with Dr. H. First, the exams are very straight forward and lectures are pretty much word for word from the textbook. But, it is still helpful to show up because he makes it very fun and interesting. Exams also aren't weighed too heavily and you can get your grade up from other simple assignments.
Jeff is a great lecturer, but would go on tangents a lot during class. In almost every class, we did not finish the material within the given time. The class itself is very manageable. The exams are okay but are very specific. Plan to study both the lecture and textbook. There are a lot of opportunities to boost grade with the assignments.
Henriques is a laugh a minute, he says the most out of pocket stuff but it's funny. Exam material is crazy random and really hard to figure out how to prepare for. However, with all the other assignments and the grading scale being adjusted, it's not as hard as you would think to get an A in the course. Be warned about the exams.
This class is mad easy Go to every lecture and take notes Read and take notes on the textbook and do quizlet before every exam Aim for a low-mid AB and do extra credit to get an A
Dr. Henriques is an AMAZING professor, his lectures are so interesting and entertaining. He expects you to read the textbook and put a lot of work into studying in order to get a good grade, but it's definitely possible. I learned and laughed a lot from him this semester and would totally recommend him for psych 202.
I didn't like psychology until I took Henriques' class. He's honestly one of the best professors I've had because he always makes class entertaining and he's super funny. He also offers a lot of extra credit which is phenomenal. GO HENRIQUES UR THE BEST
he uses iClicker for attendance and lecture questions, but the workload is very manageable -- lab is required but easy; you just show up and get full points, nothing to do outside of the lab period! Dr. H is funny, so lectures are nice. He relays content clearly - this stats is so much easier than 301 (i took and dropped it last semester)
Dr. H is the best Psychology professor I have taken a course from so far. He's really nice, funny, and easy to talk to. His lectures aren't technically mandatory, but I'd go anyways for the practice worksheets. Tons of review materials provided to do well on the exams. TAs are awesome in discussion!
Exams progressively got worse throughout the semester with the material often being irrelevant to class material. Exams were easy but filled with questions that make you wonder when did we learn this which ultimately plunges your grade
Great teacher. Very fun and engaging. There is also extra credit in this class which really helps.
I found Henriques super charming and passionate. His interesting insight and slightly offbeat personality keeps lecture engaging. Only thing I would say is his slides were not the most well-presented for note taking; I was often revising the structure of my notes or adding additional info, so I would recommend taking notes via computer.
As long as you finish the assignments, which are super easy and not at all time consuming, and listen in lectures, you should get an A. His lectures were engaging and he tried his best to make sure that everyone could understand what he was saying. His tests are all multiple choice, but you have to read the book in order to get an A.
Honestly, if you can take another professor I would strongly recommend you do so. This class is very test-heavy and test averages were 70% or less and for an intro-level course, I believe that is ridiculous. I only missed one class and read the book and when I took the test I knew about half of it. His review exams helped but had to many questions.
I looked forward to class every week. While it isn't required, going to lecture is pretty crucial as the slides will not be posted online. The tests are difficult, but reasonable if you put in time. Accessible/helpful during office hours. Henriques encourages lots of working with other students during class and provides lots of practice worksheets.
Henriques is a good guy but expects a lot out of students. Not super responsive to questions and feedback. Lectures are very fast-paced and not recorded. Prepares you well for exams, but exams are still difficult. Takes forever to get any grades back.
He is a funny guy, lectures are not mandatory but he will sometimes bring up topics in lectures that aren't in the book and put them in tests. Exams are hard but he provides extra credit. I recommend reading the book. He also provides lots of practice material, which prepares you for exams well. Overall, hard but fair class. Would take again.
Jeff is a good man. I learned a lot in his stats course, you can tell he is very knowledgeable. Just took the final, and it was very fair and everything he told us to study. He is very responsive during lecture and loves when people ask questions. He uses iClicker & it was super helpful to study for exams--sometimes the same questions!
The lectures were entertaining and interesting. Usually a chapter or two of reading per week. Exams are difficult but if you study decently a good grade is not hard to achieve.
Lectures are very boring. Says UM a lot. Exams are very difficult but other assignments help to inflate your grade which I appreciated. He wears fun ties and is a nice guy.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF THERE ARE OTHER OPTIONS! There is so many readings for a 3 credit course, and you need to remember basically all of it to get an A. The professor is fun, but his lecture does not always align with the textbook, making it impossible to know what exactly is on the tests. He does not curve grades. RUN.
Passionate, humorous, & engaged with his students during lecture. Small~moderate load of homework but they won't affect your grades much. Exams usually only cover what he taught during lecture so there's no need to read the textbook. However, some exam questions will ask about things he didn't cover during lecture (1~5 questions every exam).
Hate this professor with my whole heart he made extremely weird comments throughout the semester and had no empathy for his students
Hardest class ive ever taken you will fail this class do not take it worst professor ive ever had
This is the 2nd class I decide to take with Dr. Henriques and I plan to take a new one. I personally enjoy his classes a lot! He has a great sense of humor, he is very open to answer questions, it's evident that he likes teaching. Homework is not hard, but exams can be challenging. If you attend lectures and use the book, you'll pass!
I'll keep it short and sweet. Exams are difficult and he says UM every other word. Save your mental health and take this class with Gallimore.
This course destroyed me. I am a pretty decent student, nothing exceptional. I study, I get my work done and I make sure to understand the material. I was passing this course, but one bad exam grade and my grade was ranked. 3% away from passing and nothing could be done. Now I am going to go through another year trying to figure out what to do.
Dr. Henriques is a great guy and super smart, but this class is just plain hard. Expect to dedicate your whole semester to only this course if you want to succeed. Lectures are crucial because nothing is posted online. If you can, I highly highly suggest taking psych 210 over the summer, but if you can't, I recommend Dr. Henriques.
Professor H is engaging and makes stats surprisingly enjoyable. Lectures are essential, but the iClicker questions and practice worksheets are super helpful. Exams are challenging but fair if you stay on top of the material. unstuckstudy AI was a game-changer for my study prep.
Dr. Henriques has a certain way of doing things, once you are used to it, you know exactly how to responds to most thing in the class. (highly suggest you to take practice test in canvas) One of the best teacher in Psy department, he has a sutle sense of humor and care for his students!
Structure is well laid out but professor only teaches about half the information in class. he then assigns podcasts (him lecturing), book assignments, and a multitude of quizzes to learn the rest of the information. Tests are difficult and cover a lot of information but they are doable if you have a lot of time to study. Do not recommend!
Overall he is very knowledgeable about psychology and is very passionate, but his exams are quite difficult but doable. Make sure to read and memorize the text book.
Lectures seem long but a lot of material on tests are from strictly lectures
Henriques was an interesting lecturer, but the exams were very difficult to figure out. No matter how much I studied/read the textbook, I just could not seem to do well on the exams. The assignments were interesting and graded fairly but man, those exams... Questions would not hit on main ideas at all, but on super odd specific things.
This class was a lot of reading and so many HW assignments. It was so much that I fell behind on the reading. HW assignments are not hard but they take so much time. The grade you see on Canvas is not the grade you're going to get for this class since it is based on points. Also, the tests are hard since they cover so much material.
Henriques is amazing when it comes to Statistics. He is very knowledgeable and is very clear about concepts. He wants to give everyone a good grade, so work hard and you will receive one! Best stats teacher yet!
Henriques was a wonderful professor! Although some people thought the exams were more difficult, I found if you did the practice quizzes he posted and read the material they were extremely doable and honestly very fun. He made lectures very fun to listen to, and had a lot of insights on topics.
Prof. Henriques has good lectures and his assignments are creative. Although Psych 405 requires lots of memorizations, attending lectures and reading the textbook before class are really helpful.
🐐🐐🐐🐐
Dr H is retiring but one of the best profs ive ever had. his exams were difficult but fair given the prep work/prac quizzes/etc. thank you dr h!
dr h is retiring, but just coming here to say he is absolutely my favorite psych professor i've ever had. this class was so interesting. he is caring, witty, engaging, and clearly knowledgable. also i loved his ties!
