He may be hard, but he's a great teacher. If you want to learn the subject while challenging yourself, he is the professor for you!
I took Hernandez for the summer & ended up getting a "B" when I thought I was getting a "C". He talks a lot but seems very knowledgeble and a lil opinionated. He gives group quizzes and his tests cover what he talks about. He goes ove
Great teacher! Knows his material. Up to date with Politics. Well prepared to teach. Poses a challenge but gives lots of extra credit. Fun, interesting class. Lots of interaction with students. I put alot of effort and got an "A". He's a real G
great teacher. Great lectures. Keeps students very iterested. His midterm and final is basically 5 identifications and 4 short answer questions. His term paper is ok. Just follow the criteria..he also gives you a second chance to revive your paper for a better grade.
He's a decent professor, but quite a bore at the same time. Plus at the end of the semester he becomes very snobby and arrogant.
He's a nice guy, he knows how to teach students, from the liberal point of politics. Overall, he's alright.
He has a pretty challenging class but I like the way he explains things.
He was a great teacher. He knows his politics, very up to date. Very helpful. His quizzes are group and his essays are very easy. Read the book and take good notes and you should do ok.
Great professor!!!
He is nice, but picky on essays. BIG on Plagarism any little mistake and is plagirism, drops grade to 50%, ex,get a C drops to C-/D on paper. 4 group test. Three papers: mid, final, and term. Chances for extra credit, is better to take him in fall or spring then summer or winter.
He is very strict about Plagarism. He gets you for the smallest thing that your English teacher accepted. Good Teacher but strict.
Very informative class, not very biased and the class was generally fun. Study a little and you'll do fine.
this class made me appreciate the elaborate system that is the u.s. government. you don't really have to do all of the required reading. just attend all the class meetings and take good notes because group quizzes are open notes. fair teacher, and so nice..gives you alot of options for taking exams at a later time/turning in late homework.
He is not so kind teacher, his requirement is so high, he gives us too much writing assignments, no plagerism in assignment, that's so hard, and he also looks serious.
kind of boring teacher, but very informative...gives group quizes w/ notes, but does give a take home midterm & final plus exams in the classroom.
He is very helpful and makes class interesting. Easy-going and makes the class enjoyable most of the time.
Professor Hernandez, is a strict professor, some poeple thought he was hard but in fact he is a good dry run for the 4 year colleges. He is not the exception he is the rule when it comes to professors. He iwll help you if you ask and will do his best to prepare you for a 4 year college class. He was a good professor.
He was helpful. You have to really know how to take good notes and you will be just fine! Also you have group quiz and it makes it much easier.
I took Mr. Hernandez in Fall 2004. He is an outstanding professor. His exams were straight forward and were based on his lectures. He also made the class very informative to the prevalent international issues at the time.
It's pretty ok class... At first I don't get good grade on the exam....But he will give you up to 100 extra point on projects... It pops up my grade to do the extra point~
i attended Professor Hernandez's class in winter of 08. I took it here while attenting CSUSB. He was a better professor at this community college than at my regular school. All his work is straight forward and there is no hidden tricks. He gives group quizes which help you learn so much off each other. One of the best i had. Incredibly helpful and p
Hernandez gave us a lot of reading material from external resources from political scientist who know their stuff. Expect a lof of reading and writing, but more so reading which helps you gain your own critical thinking perspective of why certain states decided to take certain actions in this chaotic international society. hernandez prepares u
Simple enough just make sure to read to prepare for tests
He is a nice teacher that I have seen.First, he a widely knowledged teacher.Second, he takes many kind of samples, alnalist whatever involves to the lectures and also in life.Third, He's a helpful teacher eventhough all of works he gave us like quizs or questions on the mid term are kind ofchallenges.Inshort,he's an easy going, nice and funny teacher
I thought this class was going to be hard but he makes it easy. His lectures are great. He always gives you study guides for the test and quizzes. Hes really good
He is a nice man. Also he is a very good teacher if you want to get a master degree of political science!
His writting is hard to understand but everything he write on the board is helpful for the test. I didn't even read the book I'd review my notes before the test & passed. Just remember the terms. Group quizzes easy, test are essay form, easy, final easy!!! He talks alot about sodomy. Pretty fun class, he tries to joke often, he's alright
He is an easy Teacher and helpful. When he is taking notes is boring but when the quiz is given is alot of help. The mid-terms are easy if u get it.
I didnt like this guy he wasnt funny. he would always laugh to himself and grunt. it gets really annoying. he also gets side tracked and starts talking about something else. i regret taking this class.
Does not like to hear students arguments when he is challenged by a question that is asked in class.
Hernandez class is simple enough as long as you understand material (theories) and do well on essays. He offers rewrites and tons of extra credit. All quizzes are group quizzes.
He is a kindhearted very intelligent and useful teacher. I recommend him! ps) he has a funny laugh and a little annoying grunt, but you get use to it!
A very good professor who's very demanding. I found him to be a little bit biased politically speaking. Then again, I'm a Republican, he's an outspoken liberal so it's kinda hard to find a middle ground. Having said that, his class was dynamic and very informational. His class gave me a good education on the US government. Lazy students abstain!
Provides you with alot of information about politics.Requires alot of work, but gives you plenty of time to do it. Dont be lazy and you can pass. He provides you with a lot of extra credit opportunity. He does make a funny grunting noise and sweats alot, but he is a really nice man and cares for the students understanding. I recommend this teacher
super cool teacher... Easy going, fun, most likely care for his students.
He babled to much,
talks alot.. just goes goes on n i lost interest in gov when i got him i dont recommend him
Overall good professor. Can be too talkative sometimes with his lectures, but is very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about his field. Assigns a reasonable amount of reading and writing. Tests are well written because it requires students to know material well. Gives a lot of extra credit. He seems like he really enjoys what he does.
he does laugh at random times and he says umm a lot and grunts and talks alot but if you listen to him, read the book and turn in the assignments you will be fine. you need to stand out. he's not bad so i recommend him.
I loved him! had him for winter session and passed his class without trying LOL thats why i got a C...but yeah he does talk a lot and it's cute when he laughs at random stuff he only finds funny...take him he is great!
he makes this weird noise alot like he has something stuck in his troat. Talks alot about things that are not really compared to political science. Boring.. And is behind on alot of his work...
2 essays, 5 group quiz, and 2 BIG exams. Gives extra credits, but the class is not easy. must read materials if you want to past the class. not recommended to people who is lazy.
Really good teacher, theres no way you can fail this class, he gives tons of extra credit and the work isnt hard there is a few presentations you have to do and a final based on a simulation of a UN debate but its hard if your in school to actually learn, easy A but dont expect for it to fall in your hands either!
I am taking his online class. He grows on you. The work is not difficult as long as you read. For quizzes & exams review guiding questions provided. He is a little disorganized but fair.
BORIIIING!!!!! his lectures just make u wana go 2 sleep.. anyway, easy class... offers extra credit.. if u need the class n wana pass it then get him
DO NOT TAKE HIS ONLINE CLASS!!!!! Geez, lots of discussions every week, exam is written exam not multiple choice. He will fail your exam even if you quote the outside source. He makes the class harder and more complicating.
2 essays(no page limit for both), 5 group quizzes, 1 mid term, 1 final. Give lots of extra credit. Not the class for lazy students you have to study. Midterm has 4 essay questions and final has 5. I got an A
He is a really good professor. You can rewrite assignments. His class is not easy.Working hard is essential in his class.I got a really hard A in his class. Good essay skills is important too since 2 exams,2 paper assignments, and extra credits are essay writings. Group Quizes can use your own notes and they are MC and T/F. I learned a lot!!
i have taken him before and he is very helpful. you just need to follow the syllabus. the group quizzes are easy points and the essays are fairly easy. lectures are not as boring if you participate. i recommend him. he's a good professor.
Okay, so basically "Jeff" is an awesome professor. All that students have to do is read at home, do the work, and pay attention! Let's be honest- the people that rate him poorly are not the brightest apples in the bag (lol). Biggest tip: Study for his tests, do extra credit! Again: EXTRA CREDIT!
Took him for Political Science 1. I had an interest in Politics and you can tell this guy was passionate about the subject. Made the class interesting and interactive. Though I do not think he agreed with my Conservative Republican/ Christian Fundamental views, he still gave me an A on all my work and on the class.
WARNING!While he is a passionate teacher, his class is actually an university level class, so don't expect some easy reading and testing, you will actually write papers that has ZERO plagiarism and write good essays for the test! No more easy muti-choice questions for this guy. Suggestion:Take an English class before you come to this class!!!
Professor Hernandez was a pretty chill guy, the assignments weren't that much and made Int'l Relations an interesting topic. The final is a mock UN session which I thought was rather cool and he's willing to help you out with work.
Good teachers, laughs at his own jokes. Group quiz, so surround your self with smart people. Two to three essays, mid term and a final. Mid term and final are pretty tough if you don't study. Overall good teacher.
I think he's funny. Noone really gets him, its funny. Hate his cough. >,,< can be confusing, so ask questions. won't chew your head off for it either. Is a tough grader, so you have to be clear on assignments. was failing after midterm; preapred for final and final debate, passed with a B.
Worst teacher ever! He is outrageous with his readings. He not only gives you text book readings but he has a bunch of bs readings of his own posted online. I didn't talk to one student who was able to read everything. And his grading sucks. I wrote a damn good paper and he gave me a C- I wouldn't wish this teacher on my worst enemy.
Hated his class. He gives a ton of readings and expects you to have an extensive knowledge on the subject despite there not being a prerequisite for the class. I would not recommend him and unless you truly need the class do not take it at all, and if you do stay away from this guy.
Hard class to pass but not impossible. If your willing to study you'll do great. If your not willing to do all the work I would not recommend this teacher
Basically he is way passionate about Politics and expects you to be as well. You need to either know all the stuff already or teach yourself. Small things like margins and run-on sentences will make your grade go from an A- to a C+. Standards for the reading material are ridiculous. In short I barely did anything and got an OK grade. This ones hard
He speaks very fast so it's kind of hard to understand what he's saying. He grades pretty hard so expect to be docked down a grade just for little things. he does give you the option of doing a term paper or EC for same amount of points.
This is not an easy class. I took it online & found it extremely challenging with a full course load. He isn't very clear in his instructions, but will clarify if you ask him. He's also a really tough grader. I got an A in his class, but I had to earn it. If you're looking for an easy class, this isn't it.
I was thinking if I can do my best for getting a good grade
Professor Hernandez is nice and cares for his students. If you find his lectures difficult he offers many extra credit opportunities for you to prove yourself. And let me tell you---those extra credit projects are not easy at all. If you actually read the book and rewrite the midterm and finals you will get an A. I highly recommend this professor.
Although I had enrolled in his class in previous semesters, and always withdrew, this accelerated coarse was tough, but definitely not impossible. He is a UCLA graduate and really expects his students to complete college level work as you would with upper division courses. READING IS A MUST, UNLESS YOU WANT TO FAIL, SO BE WISE AND READ! Great class
You could definitely pass his class if you're not the brightest. The discussion readings he assigns are not much, however you must have very good academic terminology otherwise you will find yourself looking at a dictionary constantly, don't worry you're not the only one. The midterm & final are straight forward. PRACTICE! Overall he's a solid prof
Honestly, taking this class in the Winter semester was tough. Five weeks of intense reading and note taking, the quizzes are online and you get 3 chances so that's helpful. However, for the Midterm and Final are descriptive essays that you will need to prepare for as you will have NO notes! So practice your essays, go to writing center/tutoring!
Jeff is very dedicated to his profession & is very good in politics, which is why his class can be a bit difficult as he requires difficult readings but not at all unbearable, his midterm & final include an in class essay & he gives 2 weeks in advance to prepare for and for finals a mock UN meeting which is really a great experience for anyone!
This class was hard in general but I was able to go though it. He is really passionate about politics which makes the class fun overall. Learned a lot in this class.
He was okay. Not like other students say he truly is. He is a self motivated political science professor. prepare for writing both midterm and final in advance.
Don't take this class unless you are really good at writing papers. Midterm, finals and extra credit are all papers. I got an A in English 101 and I have received poor grades in all my papers so far in this class. He took forever to even grade the 1st paper so I didn't know how tough he was until after the Midterm. Idk why he has good scores
This professor is really boring. Yes, he has passion about politics but it's also very long and boring. His mid term and final are essays and he grades tough on those I got a d- for the midterm. I wouldn't recommend this professor.
Straight up, do not take him unless you are a Poly Sci major. He is a cool Professor sometimes. His grading criteria for his midterm/finals is crazy. Good luck yo!
This professor likes to talk a lot, but that's what political science is about, right? He's definitely passionate about what he does, and honestly I was ok with the class. would sometimes go on a tangent, but not as bad as other professors I've had before. Down to earth.
The professor is straight forward on his guidelines and syllabus, but not so much when it comes to writing paper. He WILL NOT sympathize with any student as far as making exceptions or extending the assignment deadline. He is good at what he does, but he does not help students to succeed.
Very passionate about Politics, and by Politics I mean left leaning, liberal politics. DO NOT try to engage in any civil conversation about politics with him, its all one sided and filled with Rhetoric and I feel he'll give you a harder time on your paper if you don't agree with his side of the story. Took class because I had to, WOULDN'T recommend
Many heart attacks throughout the semester because I felt my grade was in constant danger. I never knew what I was getting. His scoring is outrageously rigid. Don't bother fighting for an extension or change. Unless you're knowledgeable in the subject, participation can be difficult. You really have to work for the grade. I did learn, though.
The professor gives group quizzes and if you select teammates with a very low chance of reading and taking notes then you will receive low scores. For every assignment he gives he recommend students visit him during office hours. I went to every office hour he had. He is highly motivated in teaching students in class and helping students succeed.
A difficult class for someone majoring in Poli Sci. Anyone looking for an easy and is not required to take this class do yourself a favor and don't enroll. Hernandez is a well informed teacher, but expects students to copy paragraphs of info while listening to him speak. Midterms and finals no notes, no articles, prompts not easy. Good luck.
Fun class. Hes pretty left leaning and shows that in his lectures. Its also a lot of homework but I personally enjoyed his class
Insightful class. At first I was overwhelmed by the material because there was many readings. And I decided to not be intimated and just get the work done. Personally, I enjoyed the class and will recommend him to students who really want to learn the material in depth.
LISTEN TO THE LECTURES. Nice person but a hard professor. He has his own grading system that nobody understands. I had a D going into the final but received an A at the end of the class. I was in constant fear of my grade. Go to his office hours and participate in class and he will grade easier on you. Always show up to class. Ask lots of questions
Professor Hernandez is not a difficult professor. JUST LAZY. He is just by far the worst professor I have ever had to learn from. Lectures heavy but chaotic, no critical thinking, ONLY REPEATS WHAT BOOK SAYS IN POWERPOINTS. Midterm& final is a paper you have to wright based on 3 HEAVY readings and you can't use notes. (STUPID). he's super vague.
He did assign a lot of reading and the class discussion papers were challenging. tbh I did the bare minimum & skimmed reading and still got an A. Make sure to go to office hours for feedback on papers. I hate international relations and am not a leftist so it was boring for me but hey thats just me. Just do the work and participate youll be fine.
Choose a diff prof. If there's no other option & u need this class then get ready for long lectures. If u want to learn the material u will need to learn on your own by doing the readings and some side research. Towards the final he overwhelms u with hw. He isn't the worst prof in the world but can definitely show some improvement. Good luck
I really like Professor Hernandez. He gave extra help and late access to assignments if you explain to him why. He is very open and willing to help and is quick to answer a text. Please take if you need to take a pol Sci class
He gives out tests that are mostly based on videos he assigns for you to watch. Personally, what I found difficult were the discussion posts. Simply because he has grading criteria for them. But overall, he is good at teaching and very helpful if you need help. He also gives you an opportunity for extra credit.
I took his online class in the fall and I just want to say I loved it. He's a very kind teacher and cares about his students. His work was easy to understand.
Loved Mr. Hernandez! Lot's of assignments but definitely possible. Late work is accepted only one day after due date but if more time is needed he is very understanding. Awesome professor!
Never Take his class. I repeat Never take his class. By far the worst class I have ever taken.
