Best teacher I've had, no other way to say it. He does assign a lot of reading. But the assignments are clear and if you do the work, you'll do well in the class.

Jefferey is a super nice professor. He respects every one in the class, his lectures are super interesting and inspirational. He doesn't give us a lot of exams or quizzes. BUT. you are going to fail this class if you don't be careful, and you must try your best to do the homework. So if you are an international student, I DO NOT recommend you him.

Lots of reading, but class time is devoted to dissecting the articles and books. 399 is an accelerated class, so there are seven essays. Professor Johnson is very intelligent and cares about his students.

So i took Professor Johnson in the summer for WR 399 and let me say he is the most respected, funniest professor i have ever had in any of my writing class he cares a lot about his students. Although Don't be afraid to not ask questions he's always here to help you out in any way. His quizzes aren't too bad there opened notes so that's a bonus.

Definitely take his class, you will not regret it. He makes WR1 less difficult even if English is your second language. Participation in class matters and there are a lot of readings but they are all in respect to the essay. If you aren't willing to show up to class and work hard on your essays, you will probably just manage with a C.

Probably the closest you'll ever get to a perfect professor. The nicest man you'll ever meet with the most interesting lectures and the clearest grading criteria. He sets you up for success by the way the class is structured. If you put in the effort, you can get an A. Genuinely makes you want to go to class everyday and is always so kind.

Professor Johnson is a phenomenal professor!! He genuinely wants you to succeed and he makes sure by giving good feedback and being accessible outside of class. Reading and essay heavy, about once a month, but worth it immensely if you want to improve your writing. No midterm but four quizzes about each book and final.

BEST PROFESSOR EVER. So glad that I took this class with him. Flexible, not lenient. Very caring and understanding if you have difficulties in the class, but also won't let students abuse his respect. Tough grader, provides good feedback and will help you grow and improve. There's a lot of commentary here on Johnson's WR classes, so I wanted to recommend his Lit class. He's the only professor I've had in undergrad who assigned academic essays, and it actually wasn't a bummer. He has a lot of enthusiasm for teaching about literature, and treats his students with kindness and respect.

Professor (Dr.) Johnson is, quite honestly, one of my favorite professors of ALL TIME. He may assign a lot of reading, but most students really learn to appreciate each text by the end of the semester. He values each student's input in class discussions, so be sure to participate. He is always upbeat and easily approachable to all of his students.

The best professor Ive ever had. Dr. Johnson cares about all of his students and tries to make sure that you get the grade you deserve on the essays. His essay structure is clear and he goes over everything you need to have in the essay that would guarantee you an A. The final was wack, but the essays and homework assignments were easy and clear.

This class tested me in ways that I never thought would for writing 1. It is also up for discussion that Johnson is a tough grader. If you struggle with English Literature I highly recommend you do not take this class as the texts covered are tricky. This man restored my faith in English teachers. He knows what he's doing and he makes sure that his students do too. He's also really accommodating for people who need extra help or have other constraints, and does so incredibly effortlessly. All this being said, I had him during a summer term. There were only 11 students left by the end.

I never thought I would learn so much from this class. You will learn how to write an academic essay coming out of this class if you do the things he asks you to do. Absolutely go and see him during office hours. He gives great feedback. Don't try to invent the wheel when you are writing an essay. Just follow the instructions.

Good prof & class. Essays progressively got harder, but this was done in a comfortable way. I was writing TOO MUCH at first! Lots of discussion boards, no good. Pay attention to those! You can miss some easy points if you sleep on the discussions. Most important is to WRITE GOOD TOPIC SENTENCES and DO YOUR HONORS ENRICHMENT ASSIGNMENT. Good luck!

Although you may think that he is too strict with the requirements for his essays, trust that you will be better at writing by the end of the course. The weekly discussions are honestly everything and if you aren't writing notes while reading you will fall behind and you will have to spend hours trying to look for quotes. Awesome teacher!

Prof. Johnson was the best English teacher I've had in my life. His course is set up so that the bare minimum of participation will improve your writing skills. If you want that A, the discussions and reading the text is everything: TAKE NOTES while you're reading!! He also has specific set of format for the essays that you must follow to do well.

This is a very demanding writing class. Dr. Johnson will pull your best writing skills out of you. It was a tough class for me. However, I have writing skills now that I can take with me for the rest of my college days. The benefits are huge. If you plan on going for your master's degree, you will really need to take this class!

I honestly did not expect to do well in this class. I started off with a C, because of my first essay, and after still not scoring as high as I thought I could on the next essay, I decided to talk to him. After speaking with him, he made things really clear and was really nice. I got A's on my remaining essays and ended off w one.

Professor Johnson was great. Very nice and I learned a lot. Class was always very pleasant and helpful. If you want to learn screenwriting, his WR15 gave me a lot of good information and experience. I feel much more confident in my screenwriting skills now.

Professor Johnson made my writing experience much more enjoyable. From the collaborative activities in class to his extensive support, I was able to strengthen my writing as I move forward. His support was exceptional as he would have no problem answering questions about concepts that were lectured on earlier in the semester. Highly recommended.

Be prepared for readings, weekly discussion posts, annotations, essays and one enrichment presentation. It may sound like a lot at first but Professor Johnson truly does try to break these assignments up and is completely understanding towards his students. Professor Johnson is AWESOME! He is very caring and understanding. Fair warning, be prepared to read and watch movies and there is a decent amount of HW per week, but he is accepting on late work and is very fair with his grading, usually he just wants the assignment done. Be prepared to read the material, and make sure you adhere to his essay guidelines- they're different from what I was expecting when I started his class. Great guy wants his students to succeed

One of the best profs I've had so far, very caring, respectful and genuinely a great guy. There is a hefty amount of work i.e. reading and annotating 100 pages a week and a week window to start and finish essays, BUT there is tons of support and once you go through the motions once everything is smooth sailing.

One of the kindest professors and so caring of his student's success. Reading material is challenging. Gives excellent feedback on writing assignments with chances to revise work. Organized, interesting lectures. Would take any class he teaches!

It is very easy to get 100 on all the hw assignments if you put some effort. Mostly annotations or essay outlines/drafts. Good and thorough feedback on work. There are weekly Socratic like discussions every week after the first essay. One presentation. Guaranteed A, easy short presentation dw, you can read off slide.

Very caring and kind professor. You do need to put effort into this class, but it is an easy good grade if you do. But I cannot stress this enough, this is not a class you can chatgpt or ai your way into succeeding. (trust me). Books arent on sparknotes. Very strict on academic dishonesty, be honest, put effort in, you'll get a good grade I promise

Professor is nice but heavy work load. Had to read 100 pages a week. Each student had to give a presentation and engage in a discussion after every presentation. First 3 essays are each only 5% of the grade. Only have 1 week to start and finish each essay. 4th essay is revising the previous 3 essays and making a portfolio which is 65% of the grade.

Professor Johnson is amazing and understanding. He really cares about you and want to help you learn how to become a better writer! Grading is fair and he gives good feedback on each essay. There's a lot of reading, books he assign are difficult but class discussions help you digest. You will come out of this class being a much stronger writer!!!

Professor Johnson is very sweet; he goes above and beyond in caring for his students, and shows it by being open for office hours, as well as generally showing concern. I took the Honors course, which I think was my mistake, as participation was graded on discussion during class times. I wouldn't recommend it to someone who is a bit reserved.

As long as you do your work and show effort, he will appreciate it, and highly likely you will end up with a good grade.

This is literally the best professor I have ever had. He genuinely cares about each student and wants everyone to succeed. The class is a lot of work but it is still easy to get an A. There is a LOT of reading that you have to do each week for the class. If you want to improve your writing skills please take this teacher.

I only put the difficulty as "average" because the essays aren't "easy" in the sense that he will let you get by with doing the bare minimum. Participation based socratics help to stay on top of readings. Never had an instructor as passionate, caring, or respectful as Johnson. He is also very understanding of personal issues/submission delays.

This class is the easiest A because he's extremely clear in how he wants your essays to look, just follow that strictly. Go to his office hrs if you need help, he gives specific feedback and I've never left his office hrs still confused. Was my fav class, take him!
