One of the worst professors I've ever had. Didn't learn a damn thing from his useless lectures. Take stats from somebody else, or somewhere else. I busted my ass for a C. Some friends didn't even pass.

He's okay. More willing to help you if you go see him in his office hours. Tests are really hard, his multiple choice questions are very ambiguous and doesn't really prepare the class for his mid terms. Use your stats. TA for help on the homeworks.

Very organized lectures. Notetaking made easy. The book used was terrible though. It was most effective to get help during office hours, which the professor was willing to clarify ideas.

A good teacher, SO much better than the last stat prof I had. Mr. Kollath seems like a very caring man and takes time to make sure we understand what is going on. I would recommend him if you need to take a stat or business math class.

I absolutely hate this subject and this class. That being said, Jeff did an excellent job taking a foreign subject and teaching it so that it made sense. He made hell a little more liveable. If you hate statistics, you should take it from him because he will help you during his office hours and teach in a way that you will understand it.

Well, it's sort of hard to rate Prof. Kollath. He's a very nice man, willing to help you out during office hours. Yes, his lectures go very slow (you'll often only do one problem during the whole class period). You think you know it all, and then you get to the tests and it's kind of like, "What the f*%#?" I got an A, but I had to work for it.

Stats 351 was soooo hard for me, 352 was easier because you began applying concepts. For this subject I don't think one could find a better instructor. Jeff is wonderful at what he does and really knows his stuff!

Go to class and put some effort into the assignments and its pretty easy to get an A. Get help if confused on a topic. Only studied the night before exams and got A's on them. Study notes from class and old exams. Multiple choice on exams can seem tricky, but if you look at old exams you'll be ok. Write out problems are fairly straight forward.

Stats 351 was pretty interesting, it's not an easy class, you must work to get an A. Kollath is very good at explaining the subject; however, you have to practice, practice, practice to really understand it. The midterms and final were hard. Lab is easy and the homework is very easy, if you actually try, you will get an A for sure.

I absolutely HATE and am terrible at Statistics. Prof seems a bit arrogant at first and isn't very friendly, rather businesslike, but explains the material well, and makes the subject make sense. If you don't understand, go to his office hours, he'll make it work with your way of thinking. Definitely a good prof for stats!

The material is rather dry, but Kollath is deliberate and if you go to class you should be in good shape. Assignments are easy and help out your grade out quite a bit. Don't read newspapers during class...he freaks out.

Kollath is an excellent professor, one of the best I've had. Although statistics doesn't sound interesting, he sort of makes it interesting. He is also very knowledgable of the subject and can answer almost any questions. Though his tests were specific, they were very reasonable if you studied the material he gives you. Highly recommended!

Kollath is a really good instructor. He knows his material, and seems to truly care about his students. I would definitely recommend him over some of the other prof's for ST 351 and 352; if you have the choice have him as your lecturer.

Dr. Kolath............probably one of the most boring, dry topics to be taught, but he does an ok job...Midterms are SUPER HARD. I studdied my ass off for all of them and did really bad...so did about half the class. Deff. go to class because the clicker points are worth 30% of your grade.

its a hard class, but he does such a good job teaching it. go to class and do the homeworks! it wont be as hard if you use the practice tests he provides for the midterms and final. go to him for help, he will help you personally if you are having problems.

Kollath explains concepts so thoroughly that you'll want to die of boredom and/or laugh because it seems so easy. However, towards the end of the term the ideas all kind of blend together and can leave you confused on the tests. Pay attention even when you think he's gone over something for the 200th time. Assignments and clicker pts help LOTS.

Unfortunantley, for those of you that are stuck in your dream world of "excellency", he is not a great professor. Infact, one of the worst. He is unfair in terms of grading, and does not show any sign of fairness. Despite reading the book, attending labs, and asking questions. There are far better teachers who can teach this subject matter better.

Dr. Kollath is an excellent instructor. Although the subject matter is boring and can sometimes be difficult to understand, Kollath keeps it somewhat intereresting and he's great at explaining tough concepts. His class is structured well and he grades fairly, although sometimes his questions are really tricky.

I never thought I'd say this about a Statistics class, but I actually enjoyed his class, he makes things very clear if you attend every class. His assignments actually help you understand the content better so you do better on the tests. He tries to make it easy for you, if you go to class you'll get a good grade. Class Average was a B I think.

I took st352 in 4 weeks, and it was more clear with Kollath that in 12 weeks of 351 with the other person (who is a nice lady). Get points with homework (takes *hours*) and clickers, practice doing stats by hand for exams. Watch out for inconsistencies and poor T/A grading, and don't use 100% to answer the 'planet' problem

Good guy. If he was teaching a subject I actually cared about, he would be freaking phenomenal. As it was, he did a good job holding my interest despite the subject matter. And really helpful and nice, too.

Professor Kollath is one of the best I've had at OSU. I have absolutely no interest in stats, but he made the class clear and interesting. If you have the misfortune of taking a stats class, I highly recommend taking one with him. Some people in my class seem to think he's hard and unfair, but that's not the case. They're just unmotivated.

He is so boring and useless you'll wonder why you have to attend class. It's simple he thinks he invented statistics & loves to hear himself talk. He has a poor temperament & unclear instructions. I've had good stats teachers: he's not one of them. Even his TAs get confused by him. Btw I got an A in this class, this isn't coming from some flunky.

I had him for online statistics. His involvement was MINIMAL, but direct interactions with him over e-mail have shown him to be something of an ass. Course organization: POOR. Highly complex instruction sets and then students would hit a wall because of instructor error! Many hours were wasted by many people, and he would never even apologize.

Both Professor Kollath and the study of Statistics grew on me over the course of the term. I won't go so far as to credit him with my new-found zeal for Statistics, but he is an effective professor and an excellent test-writer. Helpful and accommodating outside class, within reason. Class may be superficial for students with stats backgrounds.

never had any stats class before so i was a little scared. esp after ppl saying how hard it was & expeect to take it twice. i managed to pass on the 1st try. i thought he was good. a little monotone but its stats. i think the HW and recitation points helped me pass. tests were long!

With no previous statistics experience I found his online course very difficult. Expect to spend 20-30 hours a week teaching yourself, taking "quizzes", doing assignments, and just trying to navigate a 12 page syllabus. Too many programs to buy. Absent professor. If you're an aural learner like me, take it in person.

This professor was not helpful in the slightest and skipped steps without explaining his methods. I barely passed 351 and had to withdraw from 352, which I have to retake soon. It's too bad he is the only statistics professor at OSU.

This guy is ridiculous. I have taken stats classes previously and knew the material well, but Jeff presents the material in such a disjointed and confusing way that it is quite hard to follow. His questions on exams are often times poorly worded, and subjective with one 'correct' answer. He is easily the worst professor I have ever had.

Not sure why people think he is so hard. Yeah the material may be difficult for some, but his tests are exactly like the samples he provides, and although the questions are tricky, they are fair. Lab and hw portions are ridiculously easy, and he is very interested in the material. He could not be any more straight forward

Prof Kollath is a well spoken professor. I'm not sure why people here say he's egotistical because I've never thought he was throughout my stat 351 and 352 classes that I had with him. The course can be a little challenging but show up to every class, pay attention, ask questions and do your homework. You should be fine.

I enjoy statistics. It appears that Dr. Kollath does not enjoy teaching. His apathy is surpassed only by the disorganization of this course. The lab portion uses statistical software not found in the real world and the format of homework, labs, MyStatLab is unnecessarily cumbersome. I am frustrated by the busywork and lack of real preparation.

I'm surprised this teacher has a high rating. He could be a nice teacher, maybe not online. He's really hard, and does not take time to help the students. There's many trick questions on the quizzes. In addition, the grading system is curved so it is actually harder to get a decent grade.. I really wish there was another Statistics Teacher at OSU.

Definitely NOT RECOMMENDED. Confusing, poorly designed (quizzes come before much of the material is covered), and a lot of TRICK Questions. Midterm is ridiculously difficult and is weighted heavily. Class demands are disproportionate; Kollath seems to take pleasure in making a challenging subject more difficult. Take this course ELSEWHERE.

He believes his Stats class should be the center of your universe, even though almost everyone is taking it just because its required for their major and they will never go further in statistics. I thought I had a very solid grasp on the material since my online hw and labs scores were great but his tests are confusing and subjective.

This class online, is not worthwhile. The class notes are badly organized and who ever wrote them should consider taking a technical writing class. The material is fairly basic, but the class approaches the subject matter with a considerable number of undefined assumptions. The book is ok, publisher provides incorrect sample problems off and on.

I took a Statistics class prior to this at a junior college and got an A. This class was made difficult by the use of remote software & the ambiguous questions on the quizzes & tests. He thinks you should spend 30 hours per week on his class. I needed a C for my major & got a C- so I will be re-taking it with him since there is no other choice.

Unable to clearly and simply give examples that help me understand and do well on assignments and tests. Daily exercise material was generally not covered until after they were due. Unable to field conceptual questions due to regimented presentation/time requirements. Unengaging lectures. Not a collaborative learning environment. Not recommended.

This was my 2nd time taking this class with this professor since he is the only one teaching it, which is strange because everything is done through the TAs. If you have a question, ask your TA. If you need something graded, it's graded by your TA. The class is still difficult and the questions on the exams are still ambiguous.

Can't even use the vocabulary from his own darn department correctly. If you didn't take stats in high school, too darn bad. Also TA's and grad students (who hate everything as well as you) grade all your assignments with the darkest of outlooks. Did you make up a fake answer to justify fun? -one letter grade. Never take this.

Avoid at all costs if possible. Despite being a 300 level class, the material is covered as if it's a 100 level, first time ever, introduction to stats. This means no formulas, and many 'how do you feel about this' type questions. Because of this, all of the tests are filled with 'gotcha' questions, making easy concepts extremely hard to answer.

I have spoken to Kollath a few times outside of class, and his is a moderately nice guy. However, he is a terrible lecturer and writes exams incredibly poorly. Kollath often answers his own questions incorrectly and, in an attempt to do math in his head, fails. Kollath's bland lectures paired with his poor question writing made me despise his class

I am Senior with a 3.8; got a C with tutors, so dont listen to these engineers who sleepwalk through it. Printed 400+ pages of lectureslabs and never missed a day .Get a tutor now. Ambiguity, guile, and chaos fills the exams, making Thomas Pynchon look like Big Bird. Nice guy though. FOCUS on the written assignments (20%) & the project(15%)

Jeff isn't a bad professor by any means, but he wasn't great either. To be honest a lot of the problems I had in this class were because I am not very strong in math and a poor TA. However; I do think that the work load for this class is a little crazy. I feel like all have been doing for the last 10 weeks is stats homework.

Easily the hardest class I have ever taken. I love math, and I love stats, but wow There is so much reading and its definitely not a walk in the park. The material also builds on itself so make sure you understand something before moving on. Hard quizzes and kind of unfair grading process of them. Hard tests.

He was a teacher who gave you all the tools you needed in order to succeed. The class was very informative, but make sure to not fall behind. The tests are very very specific, so you really need to know the material. I am not a math person, so this was challenging for me. You are good if your good at math and interpretation of problems.

Really great teacher. He was quick to reply to E-mails and always helpful. Challenging class, but totally doable. Definitely do the practice problems, since the tests are tougher than the homework questions. I didn't get the text book, I just used the E-book that comes with mymathlab and I got an A.

I took ST 351 and 352 with Dr. Kollath a few years back, as a senior at OSU. Dr. Kollath is a very detail-oriented and conscientious professor, and I found his thoroughness in lecture very useful. I think I may have missed one class day throughout my two semesters, and did 80% of the practice homework problems. Those were key to success.

Kollath is a decent professor. He's a little dry and boring, but he's very concise and everything he says makes sense. He writes everything out very clearly and his lectures are always available online afterwards. BUT. DO NOT SKIP CLASS. It'll seriously hurt your grade since there are clicker questions. Tests are challenging, but not terrible.

I can imagine this class is better in-person, but online it's not the kind of class you can take with a normal work load and class load. It's the kind of class you have to take alone and study daily for. The way it is designed (and that hasn't changed in years) is confusing and made too difficult.

FIRST AND FOREMOST- get a deep, deep grasp of the timelines, where resources are, and the time it will take you to absorb and complete. This material is what's HARD and the design of his class can feel VERY overwhelming at first. The pieces are all there, though- YOU HAVE TO USE YOUR RESOURCES.

EASY. Gives you a whole page of notes for each test. Busy work, but straightforward, thus easy points. Keep track of deadlines. Just go through lectures to make note card and you're solid. Practice test is all I used to study beside the note card. Do online hw and clicker questions in class for easy points. Didn't even read the book.

This is an easy course provided you have a strong understanding of math or if you work through assigned material. The professor provides detailed notes, as well as practice problems and homework that models exam questions. Kollath should be teaching high school. You do get a grade for showing up, and he will yell at you if he sees you on your phone during lecture. The material is pretty easy though, so if you get your clicker points, go to lab, and do the homework, you're good to go.

Lecture consisted of many long examples with multiple parts . No individual steps were ever explained, so it was hard to apply the process to other questions. If he actually taught the material and didn't rely so heavily on the examples in the "Learning Paths" it would have been much easier for my peers and I to understand.

Homework was due the morning BEFORE lecture so it was the students job to learn "pre- lecture material" and complete the homework before class. The"pre-lecture" material was not followed up on in class. During lecture half of the class didn't know what was going on most of the time. Lots of busy work and homework. He is nice but not a good teacher.

Jeff seems like a nice guy, but he does not explain enough in lecture for it to be understood on a deeper level. Tests are hard and there is a lot of extra work to do for this course and ST 352. I could not understand statistics with him as my teacher, the textbook didn't help and it was not required in the class.

Seems like a nice enough guy but as a teacher his lectures are very dry. Spent too much time giving the class group lecture worksheets and clicker questions which took about 15 minutes out of every 50 minute lecture. Felt like I was teaching myself the material most of the time.

Jeff is great at explaining relatively difficult topics in clear and concise ways. This is his greatest strength. His lectures have a great pace. Clicker questions keep everyone involved and paying attention. Pre-lecture "learning paths" were sometimes overwhelming as they were expected before 7am EVERY LECTURE. Stay ahead and no problem!

15-20 minutes of each lecture was spent rushing through group worksheets and answering clicker questions, so we barely got through all the course material. Exams were more difficult than the homework and class examples. Overwhelming amount of homework.

He's a little older and doesn't like when people are on their phones, but he's very knowledgeable and sets clear expectations. He's nicer and more patient in the 8 am class than he was in the 1 pm. His lectures are outlined well and the labs are pretty easy, but definitely go to class for the clicker points and in class assignments.

If you go to class and stay on top of the homework you will do great in this class. He explains concepts clearly and gives great examples to further illustrate them. A page of notes is allowed for the midterms and the final exam. The class is fairly easy if you put in some effort and ask questions right away if necessary.

I have taken two classes from Professor Kollath. In those two the final averages were 58.5% and 56%. His grading on short answers questions is ridiculous. It seems like he just makes up what he marks down for and by how much. I am graduating so wont have to deal with him but his class and test are a complete joke. Also never responds to emails.

He does a weekly webinar if you need extra help. There are five assignments using the R code, but the directions are very clear so it is not difficult. He uses Acrobatiq for learning paths which are semi-informative, but pair with the webinars and you will be fine.

This was my second stats class, the first 351 I had with Julie. I def. recommend taking this class with her. Her tests were considerable easier as well as her grading for the free response which Kollath seems to grade much harder. The lab and assignments were easy, but lecture is really hard to follow if you don't have the printed notes.

I took his online course and it was very challenging. There is a great deal over work to do but he is very accessible to his students and will help you anyway he can. Any questions I had I could email him or post and he would respond very quickly. I took him twice.

Jeffrey has been a delight - which is saying a lot for an 8AM Stats class! He provides ample material to review for exams and assignments closely follow the homework. If you pay attention and review well, this class is a breeze. I don't know why some people dislike him. He's very sweet and obviously wants students to succeed. #JusticeForJeffrey

His tests took a SHARP turn on what he actually teaches within his lesson plans. I understand he wants to challenge us during testing but there really is no excuse when the class averages for the final was 71% and the midterm wasn't much better. It really makes it hard to score out of the C/ low B range for his class when he does this. Would avoid

Jeff is honestly my favorite math teacher I have ever had. I have always struggled with math but he makes it fun as well as sets you up for success. He is very understanding and works hard to help you understand concepts.

Online ST 352 structure is reading the book and then doing homework, taking quizzes and test based on book readings so you are essentially teaching yourself. It's helpful to rewrite the book in your notes as a way of understanding the material. He tries to trick you on tests. If this learning style does not work for you, wouldn't recommend

I took this class during the pandemic so it was over zoom. Jeff modified the class before the term started so that we had 2 major projects rather than a midterm and final. He uses tophat and breakout rooms, which is a pain but he's a good lecturer. Responds to emails quickly and offers lots of help. If you follow the calendar, it's easy to pass.

You have to show up to the lecture. There are "mini-quiz" and breakout room lecture worksheets every day. Overall, not that hard as long as you pay attention and do all the worksheets, and quizzes, and labs. A bit tedious, but not inherently challenging.

This class was pretty average. Not super hard, but he doesnt do traditional lectures. You basically have to teach yourself the material and lectures are reserved for TopHat the entire time. The material isnt too difficult, but can be confusing based on the wording of the questions. Hes not a terrible prof, just not great either.

Professor Kollath is really helpful if you reach out to him with questions about the material, and seems to genuinely want to help you master the course content. The quizzes and lecture worksheets are not too hard if you keep up with the readings /homework and lectures.

This class had a higher than average amount of reading, quizzes, and homework, but that created a buffer system w/ points. Kollath cares about his students and doesn't grade that strict. I was able to fail a few quizzes and still get a 98% in the class. I could even get points back on big quizzes when I argued my point with him. Cool guy.

Jeff is a decent professor but the class is set up so you have to teach yourself all the concepts and then he makes you do TopHat questions during class. You have to buy access to the book to do assignments. Class isnt too terrible, hes just not very engaging and theres a lot of busy work.

Jeff is the best stats prof I've had at OSU. He is super understanding. He tried a new class structure with not midterm or final and instead a majority of our grades were based on quizzes at each lecture based on the previous reading. Grading criteria was super clear and he would give good feedback during lecture so you wouldn't lose points.

Professor Kollath let me into the ST-352 course late in order to fulfill my last requirement before graduation when I hadn't taken ST-351 before which was a pre-requisite. I took an accelerated version of the course over 4 weeks in the summer and while the workload was heavy, he provided exceptional teaching. Help was always available when needed

He doesn't lecture during lecture, he expects you to watch a recorded lecture before class. During each class you take a quiz and then due a worksheet. Not too hard, but annoying format. No midterms or finals, only 5 big quizzes but they are all on quizlet.

Math is hard. That said Jeff works it to be easy, do the work, watch all the videos and go to the labs, youll pass. Hes very caring, when I said I didnt feel comfortable in a classroom of 200 people (high risk parents) he let me attend via zoom which I really appreciated

Prof. Kollath is one of the kindest professors I have met. The first week of taking ST351, I fell into the deepest depression I've ever experienced (unrelated). I missed multiple lectures and quizzes. I emailed Prof. Kollath and he was understanding, kind, and he genuinely seemed to care about my wellbeing. I ended up with an A.

Doesn't teach us at all, rather has us use a textbook (to which his questions rarely follow the equations from) and then tests us every single class. No effort on his part. I could literally not spend $60,000 to attend a school where the teacher literally doesn't teach anything.

I took this as an asynchronous e-campus class. Kollath doesn't do much hand-holding and I wish he had us learn a little bit more in R, but he gives a ton of resources for learning the material. I struggled with the material but through homework and using the resources provided I managed a B+.

If you are looking for a professor that will treat you like you are in high school, Jeff is your guy. He doesn't actually teach anything and his "textbook" has literal typos. If this class was actually hard I don't think anyone would make it bc he simply avoids doing his job, which is to teach students.

This class is basically "teach yourself" but maze style. He doesn't actually teach anything, he uses an online program, then during class, you do a quiz and worksheet that asks about different concepts. It all seems a little disorganized. He doesn't really do much besides criticize people. The only good thing was the lack of midterms or finals.

Kollath is a good teacher, which sucks. He just refuses to actually teach. You basically teach yourself and then do a quiz and worksheet during the lecture (which makes it mandatory!!). No midterm or final (though there is basically a final during class, sure, but quizzes 3x a week is just as stressful. The textbook is not digestible either.

Early on I was worried about how much he said e were supposed to do but more and more I realized you can game his classes. So long as you do the acrobatiqs, have good knowledge coming into the in class mini quizzes, and do the worksheets in class, that's like an easy 60% of your grade. The labs were super straightforward too.

Kollath designed this class so that he could participate as little as possible. His uninformed TA's were doing ALL of the work. Answers were often corrected after being given because they didn't know what was going on either. Just a professor that doesn't care, and having taken a GREAT states class at OSU, I recommend avoiding Kollath.

It's clear Kollath designed this class to do as little work as he possibly could. If you don't understand Acrobatiq you will be screwed because the "supplemental help" is a joke. He also grades more on technicalities than wether answers are correct or not. There are good stats professors at OSU -- THIS IS NOT ONE! Avoid Kollath. True waste of time.

Professor Kollath is not active on the discussion boards and is a hard grader on assignments. I find the assignments confusing but any question asked is not broken down into understandable concepts, they are loosely explained or we are told to look back at acrobatiq. Quizzes are hard and decently high staked. You teach yourself in this class.

This class was complete disaster, and the instructor did the absolute least to help you with your grades, so don't waste your time. Not only do you have to teach yourself, you also have to keep up with all the work that you'd probably have to guess on because of its lack of instruction.

This professor does not teach AT ALL. The only "teaching" he does is making videos you are supposed to watch before class where he reads of off slides. You have lots of homework that can help with in class quizzes and worksheets, but his questions are always so vague and hard to answer. He is a tough grader and grades to unseemly decimal places.

I had taken ST351 from another professor, and it was GREAT. However, I made the mistake of assuming this class would be similar. Kollath is a harsh grader with little involvement in the class; quizzes are quite challenging. Posts stating he grades to the 8th decimal point are not exaggerating. Good luck if you have him; I had no other options.

All the material is taught online on a separate website in a difficult to digest format. Classes are mandatory. Each one consists of a quiz and a worksheet that is harshly graded. The class is not difficult, the material you are expected to learn is reasonable, however it is presented in one of the most unengaging formats I have ever experienced.

Overall felt like this should've been an online class. Lectures were used for quizzes and worksheets so the professor isn't teaching at all. He grades harshly. I found using Unstuck ai alongside the textbook and resources really helpful for preparing. Overall, it's a demanding class, but doable with the right approach.

This entire class could be online-only instead. The only things you do in the lectures are take a mini quiz and complete an online worksheet. There would be no point in showing up to class, but they take attendance to force students to go. The labs are completely useless, and they are just coding with R-studio. If you can, take this class online.

The way attendance is recorded is very inconvenient to students and LA's. Don't bother going to lab because there's step by step instructions for how to do the lab assignments, though he does grade those harshly. If you can take this class online, I would probably do that, he doesn't actually teach in lecture.

A tough grader, don't expect to get a 100% on anything. Always knocked off by a couple decimal places. It is not necessary to go to the labs as the instructions are given fully online, he will grade your labs harshly. In person attendance is taken using name cards. If the time limit runs out on a Tophat assignment, he usually will not reopen it.

LOTS of intentionally misleading questions. This professor offers NO makeups for late work, no extra credit, and no one-on-one teaching. He has clearly stopped caring about his job, and makes no effort to hide this fact. All of the grading is done by TA's who clearly no not understand the material and grade VERY harshly. STUDENTS BEWARE!!!

The course is designed so you do all learning online through some extra paid content (that is nice quality imo) and then in-person is all quizzes with Top Hat plus R lab homework. Jeff is pretty friendly and checks in on students. He wants students to succeed and will let you know if you're making an error in the in-person homework.

The class was well paced and organized for an 8 week summer course. A lot of emphasis was on an online platform for homework. I did end up having special circumstances midway through the course and the professor was very accommodating and easy to get a hold of.

He kept making things more difficult on purpose. Grades the labs really harshly, makes attendance mandatory (he will email you if the TAs mark you as absent) even though the whole class can be completed from home and he doesnt teach in lecture. Calls out students if they have phones out, and doesnt hand back tests for "security reasons".
