You learn a lot and your own interpretation is not judged against you.
His demeanor made for a poor class. Not recommended.
Crazy old man.
Good teacher, obviously misunderstood. Doesn't step on students' opinions.
very intelligent man, funny, likes to sing, (just don't whin about assignments)
Loves theatre students, if they work. You will learn something i
WHAAAAAHHHHHHH
Weird but nice
He is sooo funny. The class is great if you want to learn.
Wondeful course, great guy to speak to.
Easy grader, has a different scale for grading
Great guy, definately take him, teaches much more in between his lines
Really smart professor - fun classes and insightful. take all of his classes!
Good teacher, but needs to realize that the internet is a valid source!!
Very helpful if you ask him.
Moody! doesnt answer questions clearly or under 5 min.- DON'T ? his grading
Crazy but sweet guy, easy if you want to do good, will work with you
Great teacher. Makes learning fun. A class that will actually improve your eng
Great teacher! Very nice. He loves to sing in class!
He is a good teacher if you are willing to put in some effort.
Had to have him twice. He's irrational and overdramatic-AVOID!
good singer, ok teacher
He is a jerk, don't take him it takes him 50 minutes to say one sentence.
does not explain things very well, infatuated with the presidents, trys to sing
Terrible! Sings, has breakdowns in class, bureaucratic. Don't take his classes!
He loves to sing in class but he is willing to help you when you need it. He is a nice teacher and as long as you are respectful he has a fun sense of humor.

Be prepared to to work very hard to get a good grade. He is very helpful if you ask for it.He does ramble on and sings, but he is a nice teacher.

Funny guy, does ramble on but very helpful. Class is a bit borring some days, sticks to syl. One test final is a paper you work on then turn in day of. Lets you leave early sometimes.
He is very hard to understand. He gives the grade that he thinks you "deserve". He is very emotional and will have break down's in class. When you try to ask a question, he will answer it for 20 minutes, and still not ever answer it.
Great course, makes you think about literature, never liked reading until now
Very nice guy and always willing to help, very entertaining, cares about you learning, does have emotional breakdowns but hes had a hard life
Good guy, however occasionally lets his politics get in the way of his judgement of written material. Typical left leaning prof
Terrible, he is very hard to understand. Class is very annoying. Laughs and criticizes others views. Has favorites. Don't take him!

He is an extremely intelligent, and sensitive man. I enjoyed this class because he challenges his students. Talk to him and he will help you along. Grades on improvement, and is a really nice man inside. Good class.
Great guy, he's tough, but isn't that college? He will challenge you a lot, and is a real sweetheart!
hated his class. talked about other studnets' work in my conferences. it was really hard to find the medium for his work. complains and whines a lot in class. don't take him!!!
GREAT TEACHER! Very insightful, humorous, and entertaining. "Name That Tune Quiz" is the best performance you can ever see for free!!! Really knows his stuff, slightly particular, and full of great stories. There was never a boring day!!!
He's very intelligent and knows how to communicate to his students effectively.
CRAZY MAN!! Don't take him unless you have to! Flips out on students.
He seems like hes just been through too many frusterating semesters. He gets pushed around - No one listens to him and then they patronize him to the breaking point. He does have trouble with his temper but I cant really blame him. Will be bullied into changing due dates often.
Nice guy at heart. Gets frustrated with students from time to time. Can blow up, but apologizes. Pretty religious, lets his beliefs influence his teaching. Trys to challenge you and make you think.
worst prof ever. compared my paper to other students and mentioned names in my conference. whined about his job. didn't keep control of class very well at all. DONT TAKE HIM EVER
Pretty level headed in with the lit class. Nice guy, makes sure that the readings aren't something you've already heard a thousand times before. Mixes it up a bit. I would take his class again.
He's WONDERFUL for Lit. However, his Comp class leaves a bit to be desired. He's a very nice and VERY intelligent person, but he lets his personal biases get in the way and sometimes grades papers harshly when he disagrees. Don't expect an A, but a B is not hard to get in his classes.
This professor is emotionally unstable, he is really weird and throws temper tantrums in the middle of class. He never makes clear what he wants and he is just overall the worst professor I have ever had and do not recommend him to anyone.
I wish I would have dropped the class... nice fellow, not a very good teacher though. He talked to his students as if we were idiots
Dr. Loomis is a great professor- you just have to get to know him. Overall he is very fair- he will work with you, but you have to do your part.
I agree, Dr. Loomis is wonderful- take his class, and see...
I really liked Dr. Loomis!
MY WORST PROFESSOR SO FAR IN MY COLLEGE EXPERIENCE. Way weird. Has stains on his pants that make you wonder. Unwilling to help and his way or the highway type of attitude. Is whiny in class. Take him if for entertainment purposes only, not to be taught.
Dr. L is a great prof! and most students will agree with this...
Weird at first. Once you're in his class for a little while he seems somewhat normal. Nice guy. Easy grader. Put very little effort into papers and came out with a B. But, as I mentioned before...very weird. Don't let him scare you away at first.
Worst teacher/professor I've had. Grades based on his beliefs rather than quality. Changes sylabus near the end to make attendance graded counted retroactivly. Class had nothing to do with writing research papers, was more of a religious lit class. Insulted students for various reasons, one was their religious beliefs. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
Loomis is the worst professor ever! He grades based on if he likes you or not! I hated him with a passion! Assignments are easy, but if he does not like you, you will do poorly on essays. If you are a theater major, he would like you.
Wonderful Teacher! These other comments are lies, just take Loomis and you'll like him- promise!
*** Dr. Loomis is a delightful and intelligent individual- being a recent Northwest graduate, I can say that he was the best professor I had.*** BY THE WAY, I WAS A PE MAJOR- AND I GOT AN "A" IN THE CLASS---TRUST ME, YOU WILL LIKE HIM,.EASY WAY TO GET ENG 112 OUT OF THE WAY (ALSO HAD FOR 111)
Had Dr. Loomis for Intro to Lit. Was very helpful, and made class easy. Very funny and always supportive. Recommend for any student!
This teacher is good, like him very much. I find him to be easy. You will like him, easy way to finish gen ed requirement
Good Teacher. Had for Lit Class, will take for eng112. Students in class like him. easy.
Just grad from Northwest. Had Dr. Loomis for Eng 112. Great prof, if I had any problems, was very helpful. Very understanding and supportive.
I found it difficult to discover what he really wanted in our assignments. grammer seemed more important then content. Many of his questions (in class/homework) are unclear, and I was always unsure of how to answer them. Two tests make up 70% of your grade...this made me nervous.
Regarding the previous comment(below) re the two tests...The person did not mention that it was a summer class(4 weeks in to 16 wks) With the traditional sem (Fall/Spring), there is much more flexability.
HORRIBLE!! I can't say enough bad things about Dr. Loomis. He literally laughs at you if you ask a question or go in for help. He pouts all the time about the most random crap. He is useless, his material is useless, and he needs to retire. Not clear on anything!! He SHOULD NOT be teaching students. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!
He really doesnt want to help. Hes a nice man, just not meant to be a teacher. He makes jokes that shouldnt be made in a classroom. If you complain about due dates he will change them. You read out loud like your 5, and all your papers are over history topics.
Give Jeff a break! He is a good teacher- He is the only prof I liked at Northwest.
I had to write 5 papers but one was a revision, allows late homework and willing to help. He gave me all the info for my research paper. Overall a fair teacher, I would probably take him again. It is not a slack off class but not impossible either. He is real goofy!!! Easily gets off subject.
hard teacher, goes off on boring tangants alot, most paper topics are extremly boring, making it hard to get interested in. he'll crack jokes with you but also expects alot and is a really hard grader.
If willing to work, so is he. Knowledgeable. If you come to him for help, instead of just complaining and whining about it, he'll help you. Passionate, can't help but want to try. High expectations.Goodness forbid you actually have to work for something. Listen, pay attention, and put forth the effort, and you'll succeed.Don't expect an easy class.
Awful. Sings musicals. Gets off topic a lot. Only grades well if you write the way he does. Thinks his writing is the best and always uses it as examples.Likes to hear the sound of his own voice. Haven't learned asingle thing in the class except to research all my professors before signing up for classes.DONT TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN TAKE ANOTHER PROF!
Personally I LOVED THE GUY..!! He was really cool and down to earth. Loved cracking jokes with us, guess you could say we had a good group. Way to intelligent though. You ask him a question and he pretty much gives you an answer as if you were one of his grad students or he repeats what he just said. Great teacher I highly recommend him!!
Very understanding guy, if you go to him for help, have gone to class consistently, and remotely pay attention in class, he will do anything to help you out. If you do not write well he will help you fix whatever your problem is. Three research type essays, as well as a couple creative type essays throughout the semester.
You have to have the right attitude when dealing with him. He is very hard to understand and what he wants isn't always clear. I will say a little brown nosing never hurt, it was evident in this class. He has his days, somedays he is extremely happy, others he will yell at the whole class. DO NOT bring your laptop to his class, he gets furious.
I love this guy. If you just bs with him your grade will raise. I bs'ed my first paper and got an 83. Wow.
He's nice, and he will give you a rubric, which tells everything you need. Grammar and dictation are also important, n it varies by ppl. Anyway do your best. He's VERY fair grader.
he is horrible. goes off on tangents about nothing. has bad mood swings and only likes your papers if you write in his style. always uses his papers for examples AND HE MADE US SING MUSICALS. such a bad teacher.
He is a very fair teacher. He tells you what he expects out of you and gives good examples of papers he expects you to write. There is no set amount you have to write for each paper; just long enough to get your point across. We even watched movies in his class.
Took for Composition 2. Is a fair teacher, and has the entire semester planned out in the syllabus, so you can finish early on your essays if you want. He is a nice, but silly old man, and sometimes gets pushed around by the class. Not a hard class if you respect him.
Loomis is one of the most passionate teachers I have ever had. He's a goofy old man, who is very knowledgeable of his subject. With that said, he is tough. His tests are almost all essay, and you will read. If your interested in Literature, definitely take Loosmis.
DO NOT TAKE FOR INTRO TO LIT!!! His study guides and home made packet for the class is incomprehensible. I get headaches just trying to figure out what is written let alone comprehend it. questions on quizzes are weighted unfairly. Extremely sensitive! must read and take quiz on all assignments. i dread going to his class! AVOID IF POSSIBLE!
Did not like him at all!!! I never understood what our papers were supposed to be about and when you asked him he wont flat out tell you. Goes off on bad random tangents. Dread going to his class because I always feel like it is a complete waste of my time!
Decent Teacher. Interacts with students a lot in class, but he picks favorites. Tests are hard, but there's only one or two. We watch movies often so its cool. 5 papers from what I know. We spend days in class just critiquing other papers too. Def fun to talk to
cant explain things for people and basically makes a person feel like an idiot for asking a question
Class overall isn't that hard, however Loomis is unresponsive to emails for help, does not use the ecompanion site at all for grades(do go ask him what your grade is either that really ticks him off, don't ask questions in class because you'll be made out to be stupid. Basically the class was not hard, except for Loomis and his ever changing mind
This guy was, uh, different. But actually a good teacher.
Worst teacher i have ever had. Not a fun environment to learn in. Very rude teacher. He is unorganized, inconsistent with grading, and does not help students. DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH LOOMIS
I personally liked Dr. Loomis. If you are respectful to him then you will be fine. Turn in all of your assignments on time and you should not have a problem. Put thought into your papers and proof read. There were a few mistakes in some of my papers that he overlooked because they were minor. Not hard to pass his class, just do assignments.
This class was hard. That being said, I have never learned so much from a professor or from a class. He was an extremely opinionated and hard to like human being and he grades tough. Honestly if you read the packet and book before quizzes and have him proofread your paper, you should pass with an A while learning a lot too.
