Easy to understand. Interesting Course.
Interseting stories, clear examples, knowledgeable, curves test and quizzes, just a lot of reading
Grandiosity for 1000, Alex.
He is very smart..but umm his tests are very hard..much to hard for a core..he wrote the book and it's expensive
I had him for Abnormal Psychology. I would have to say he is the one of the best teachers I have had. His test are easy and he has some interesting stories to tell. Just go to class and skim the book and you will do fine. Take him if you want to learn something.
A nice guy, jokes around in class but I find the class to be really hard. I studied for 5 hours for the midterm and I got a 55. He does curve though. It requires reading throughout the course, not just cramming at the end. Is offering a review session for our next quiz, so he does care. Not an impossible course to pass.
Very hard test. When he says you need to read his textbook YOU DO!!!. and you can't just skim read you have to read it and understand it. I studied 3 days before the midterm and i got a 60 with the curve!
He uses the book he wrote and everything is from the book. The book is great but I don't think he's right for teaching.
THIS GUY IS HORRIBLE! Hes boring, and he's one of those Powerpoint professors. His quizzes and test are ridiculous. Its impossible to learn all the material in the textbook, which he wrote by the way! DONT TAKE HIM! HE'S HORRIBLE. Im in the PSYC 1000C course, he goes way toooo in depth with the material. EVEN PSYC majors find him riduculous! AVOID!
he's an overall nice professor. he can be cool at times but can also be extremely boring. You must read the chapters he assigns you and memorize everything in order to receive a good grade. skimming or knowing the key terms will not help
You def need to read the text book, which he wrote just to let you know. Take lots of notes, trust me you will need them. He teaches off of powerpoint, so if you cant pay attention in class you could be screwed
I enjoy his class and teaching immensely.
Very intelligent professor. He can be full of himself, but he has a lot to teach the students. To pass you must read the textbook. He gives mastery quizes which are 1 question quizes every once in a while but he gives the same question twice (once before and after the lecture)to boost your grade. If you want to learn psychology I recomend him.
EXTREMELY BORING CLASS but tries to make it interesting. 10 mastery quizzes and your given 2 opportunities in 1 class session to get the correct answer. Tests are difficult, so make sure you study your butt off! He actually wrote the textbook, and is very intelligent. Not a easy A! If you like Psy take him but otherwise take someone else.
he is an awesome professor.. the tests really aren't that hard you just need to study and pay attention.. he makes class really interesting =)
His review sheets are the exact questions for his tests
easiest professor ever. his review questions are the exact same questions for the exams. you dont even need to buy the textbook. just get the notes off his website if u cant afford the textbook which is really expensive. so far, i got 2 A's on his exams. pretty easy professor.
He isn't hard, just purely about how much effort you put into the class. I am now going to tell you how to pass, go to every class because he often gives a quiz which you get 2 shots at once at the beginning and once at the end. Don't read, take the review sheet and spend a couple days filling it out and studying it, it contains every answer!!!
EXTREMELY BORING!! talks monotone and is so uninteresting. He contradicts himself and will not veer from his planned discussion. does not answer questions effectively. dont take him. you will no longer like psychology.
Very monotone and boring, but a passable class. He takes attendance and gives "mini quizzes" in the beginning and end of random classes so you get 2 shots to answer the question. Need the book for journals and he gives you a test review paper, DO IT! Tests are pretty hard but he curves.
Dr. Nevid was fantastic, he is a brilliant guy and he wrote the textbook. Class was fun and he is always available to help you out. 3 MC exams that you should definitely study for. He gives you a study sheet via email. Has great study tools and lets you get his powerpoints online. Offers extra credit lectures & has 1 paper or participate in exps.
A very intelligent guy. He was pretty fair, 3 tests that are multiple choice. You have to study for them but he gives you a study sheet that if you study you can do great. The class is very fast paced and boring but as long as you study from the study sheet with the textbook for the test you don't even have to pay attention in class.
not a fun class but very easy. everything is in the text book and he gives you a list of exactly what is on the test. participation not mandatory but you should go because he does not tell you which days he will give the quiz which is just a question on something you learned that day. boring but easy A
gives lots of extra credit but the class is really boring. takes attendance and gives "mastery quizes" which can help your grade out. wrote the book so you have to read it. gives a study sheet that you have to memorize to get a good test grade.
There is a mastery quiz once a week, which he will give you the question in the beginning and at the end of the class. You have two chances to answer it, in the beginning, or at the end. The answer is revealed in the middle. There are only 3 exams. These exams are very difficult if you don't study for them. Class time is just him reading his slides
He is the best professor I've ever had in my life. He rarely gave homework. He gave these "mastery quizzes" during select classes which are 1 question and you get 2 shots to answer it. Super easy. He'll explain. Tests are MP. Everything is perfectly clear and he's very nice and funny. Extremely helpful and approachable. He is a perfect human being.
He really wants to see students do well. He does so much to help you get a good grade by giving feedback on exams and extra points from mastery quizzes. Class is kind of boring, and you have to read the text, but he's a nice prof. and nice to talk to as well.
Doctor Nevid is a truly bright man. He is very dedicated to his students, makes learning fun, and understandable. He has the capability of making something that is difficult simple to comprehend. He is an excellent professor!
Doctor Nevid is an excellent professor. He really desires for all of his students to do well. He makes concepts that are difficult easy to understand. His handouts are very helpful and he also makes jokes to lighten up the mood. I learned so much in his class. He is an awesome teacher.
i love dr. nevid. i think that his tests are very challenging so you do need to put work and effot into studying. he gives extra credit and he gives a suprise quiz for 10 points for more points (super easy quizes). textbook is a MUST he wrote it himself, you would be dumb not to buy it.
Def one of my fav professors. Buy the text b/c he wrote it himself. Go to class b/c he takes attendance and has 10 pop quizzes (only 1 question on each quiz)for 10 extra points. The only hw is the journal entries on his website at the end of every chapter, easy. You have to participate in 2 mandatory experiments to pass, easy theyre just surveys.
Great professor.Goes out of his way to make sure students do well.Gives tons of extra credit opportunities along with a huge curve on tests. The tests itself arent the easiest and require a fair amount of studying, but if you study all the learning objectives in the textbook, you should be good. If you still dont get a good grade, the blame is on you.
Hes a very nice guy, fair grader, boring class. Do the journal entries because they're so easy. Read the textbook. Tests are difficult if you don't read the textbook. Sit in the front of the classroom so that he gets to know you. Overall worth it to take it.
Honestly if not one of the best, then he is the best. He is so helpful and so kind, its really hard not to like the man. Make sure to read the textbook & do the learning objectives for the test. If he sees you care, he cares.
one of the best professors. I have an awesome foundation for psych because of him. one of the only teachers where if you do what he says, you'll do fine. read the book, answer the questions at the end of the chapter so you can understand the material, do your journals and go to class. it's soooo worth it. i recommend him to everybody!
Professor Nevid was OK. He's very smart and knows what he is talking about but his class is way too in depth for an introductory class. Overall, too much information and is not clear about what he wants. His tests can be on anything in the 500 pages you have to read so really study.
Great professor who is very knowledgeable on the Psych topic. His tests are pretty hard so need to prepare for them atleast a week in advance. Other than that interesting lectures and overall a nice guy who cares about how well his students do and provides extra journals and extra credit toward test grades
Great professor. If you do as he says (reading the textbooks and doing journal entries) you'll be well prepared for the tests. Come to class on time for mastery quizzes for points on your tests! He also grades on a curve.
Great professor. He wrote the textbook we used so it came together really well with lectures. Just make sure you do all the journal entries and are always in class and sign the attendance sheet cause even if you get 100% on a quiz, if you don't sign the sheet that day you get a 0. But really awesome teacher
Good teacher, he knows what he's talking about. If you do the readings and assignments you'll be fine.
He's the typical college professor, he knows a lot and you will learn a lot if you pay attention and come to class. If you put an effort, you should get a good grade in the class.
He's a good teacher, but if you don't read the textbook you won't pass the tests. His powerpoints don't alwasy reflect the textbook. He's really nice and very funny, he is very willing to explain in detail and work with you. Sometimes he gets pretty monotone but besides that he's good. Probably wouldn't take him again though.
Great professor. he knows a lot about his subjects. he wrote the textbook used. if you dont read the text youll fail the quizzes.
I didn't like this class at all. Thanks to him i'm changing from a psych major to another major. His lectures are boring and he just reads off a power point. His test are all tough multiple choice questions based off HIS textbook. He doesn't really like answering questions because he's recording his lectures. He's very dry.
Dr. Nevid's intro psych class was much needed for me. It was be no means an easy class if you didn't put effort into it. Having said that, putting in the effort allows you to enjoy the class and most of all, learn. His tests are largely based on the textbook (needed) which helps out a lot. He's a great professor and cares about your grade.
There is no doubt that he knows a lot about what he is teaching. However, this is a class that you really have to engage yourself and want to learn. Make the textbook your best friend, it will help you pass the class. Definitely not an "easy A," you must work for it! He is a little boring during lectures. I would recommended for psych majors.
Although Nevid gave interesting lectures, his tests were impossible if you didn't study the textbook he wrote, so if you want a good grade be prepared to read! This class would have been so much more enjoyable if his lectures were more in-line with the textbook.
As long as you keep up with your work and read what's in the textbook, you'll be fine. Has very clear guidelines on the syllabus and he often gives extensions on assignments. Most of the time you don't even have to take notes during the lecture because everything he says is in your textbook, which he himself wrote.
Overall it was a nice class. Expect to read, he also curves his tests by a lot.
Nevid is a funny guy. He's obviously very passionate about his work and his field. I'd definitely take him again. He gives "pop quizzes" called Mastery Quizzes, and you have two shots at passing it. He definitely does his best to insure that you get a 100 in his class, if you don't then it's your problem. He's really good!
I'm taking his final tomorrow and have been studying for days and I'm still overwhelmed with how much info there is to know. Luckily he curves his tests. The lectures seem endless. He will use the entire class time if not more. Assignments very extremely short and easy. Great ways to boost your grade. You'll probably get an A if you manage time.
He uses a mic, big bonus, considering there were over 60 students in the class. MindTap quizzes and journal writings are straightforward and you have lots of time to get them done. The tests are the hardest. MC, but not based on what you can remember, but what you can apply terms to. Curves 6-8 points only. Pop quizzes are annoying, but doable.
Great Class! Dr. Nevid is so knowledgeable about psych I'm surprised he fit so many chapters into one semester. If you want a good grade in this class, you have to work for it. DO THE READING!! His tests are based off of application of material and things in his textbook you might glance over. Overall great professor
Dr. Nevid is extremely knowledgable at psych and is a nice man, however there is SO much material for an introductory class. It was stressful trying to study for tests because of how in depth each chapter was. I would avoid this class unless you are a psych major.
He's so boring!
His tests are HARD but on the bright side he's not a hard grader. His work is kind of a pain but overall this class is doable and he gives lots of extra credit. In class he goes over the slides that he posts, but the homework covers it all. Just show up and get other work done.
if youre a psychology major, definitely take him. very detailed for an intro class but its worth it. nevid is very knowledgeable and very fair when it comes to assignments. 52% of your grade is the online work and mastery quizzes which you have multiple tries on. tests are hard but review the learning concepts and its fine. great class great prof
A good professor, however he really expects you to read his whole entire textbook, and put 10000% of your time into this course. He doesn't cover all things that will be on the exam in class, and he gives loads of homework. The tests are really hard but there are only a couple that he gives. I probably wouldn't want to take this professor again.
I have no idea how I got an A- in this class considering I got 70s and lower on all three of his tests. Make sure to do all his homework and take advantage of his extra credit. They are tedious, but it will improve your grade so much and boost it even after getting terrible test score grades.
Just read all chapters that will be on the exam and you should be fine. If you hate working hard for a introductory class, avoid him. Overall a decent class. Would definitely take him again.
A little intimidating at first but he's really caring and wants you to succeed. You're going to have to read the chapters because he does not cover every single thing in class. Overall, if you put in the time, effort, and do the work- you'll be fine. One of my favorite teachers, highly recommend.
Honestly, Dr. Nevid's class is tough for an introuductory course. However, he does give you opportunities to raise your grade. He uses a lot of examples to explain the material. The course is based on his own book and it helps because he goes everything like it's written. Everything he teaches us makes other courses more comprehendable.
He's a good professor although his tests are quite difficult. Expect to read the whole textbook in order to do well. Take advantage of the extra credit opportunities; not only will they improve your grade, they help prepare you for the exams. I would take his class again if I didn't have other classes to worry about.
In terms of teaching, he is really funny, he does a lot of "experiments" that can be either funny or you're just confused. He tells a lot of stories during his lectures that coincide with what is on the slides. He offers extra credit and your grade consists of attendance (sign in sheet), 4 tests and MindTap quizzes when you get the textbook.
He gives four exams and each chapter has an online quiz on Mindtap which is extremely easy. Lectures are fun if you participate and listen. I don't know how his ratings are 3.9. I think he deserves a 5.0. Best teacher on Queens campus for Intro to Psychology. Don't bother with the other ones.
He really knows what he's talking about and makes class fun . Also assigns mindtap quizzes which are very easy. Only thing that I wasn't a huge fan of was the fact that since he holds so much knowledge he figured the class knew the course as well as him. He made the tests harder than they should've been for an intro class but i guess thats good&bad
Prof Nevid is a pretty cool teacher, his classes are intriguing however his tests are super hard to pass even if you study a lot. The only reason why the textbook is necessary is because there is a code that gives you access to this site called mind tap where you do mini quizzes which helps you tremendously if your failing.
Prof. Nevid is a cool guy, his lectures are dense but interesting and he offers a few chances for extra credit, but his tests are ridiculously hard. I studied the chapters and could recite them verbatim and I still didn't do that well on his tests. Read the textbook and listen to his personal stories, he might use them on the tests often.
Pretty fair professor. Powerpoints posted online, however you should still take notes based off what he is saying. Pay attention and study and you should do fine. I barely studied and didn't pay attention at all and I still was able to get a B+. Quizzes and tests are all to be completed online.
Grade is based off of a combo of online quizzes and in class quizzes. He often curves the tests and gives extra credit on top of that. His in person tests usually have questions that he pulled from his lectures so you have to pay attention.
Prof. Nevid is a great choice for into to psych if you are a psych major. I think he gives a good foundation to psych & a little too much work if you're never gonna take another psych class again. There a 4 tests, which can be very difficult but there is a lot of extra credit. There are 3 quizzes per chapter & 14 chapters. "pop" quizzes are easy.
He's a pretty average professor. Tests are super hard for no reason even if you read the textbook word for word. Not sure how I did it but I failed every single test and still came out with an A. There's always room to help your grade which is nice. Ace the quizzes, do all the extra credit, and show up to every class and you should be fine!
Terrible professor. Terrible dealing with Corona Virus. The first two test AVERAGES: 55, and 58. Tell me what core class has a test average in the 50s. I got an A in organic chemistry, so coming from that to this useless class I don't even want to take disgusts me. Avoid him. All info on tests comes from tb. He gives a test, then a lecture after.
He does attendance checks during his online class and you have to buy the application to complete the online quizzes. The tests which, are unnecessarily hard, require you to pay attention to both the lecture and his textbook. Tests also use lockdown browser. He does offer extra credit opportunities.
Prof Nevid was a tough professor but I learned a lot from his class. He makes you work for it but hes very fair. He wants you to succeed. Gives a lot of extra credit and curves the tests if the class as a whole didnt do well. Assigns an online textbook its essential for his class. Quizzes are very easy. Do the study guides for the tests!
long lectures, not very energetic early in the morning and slow paced speaking, very heavy material in tests and work load with homework chapters, dont reccomend you can def find another professor for this psych 1000 class
Grade is dependent on assignments and exam scores. He's really nice and tries to make class interesting. Not a fan of the grading policy but if you read the textbook then you'll pass. Mindtap assignments are generally fair but exams are iffy. May be difficult to follow lectures if you're new to Psychology; sometimes rambles & lacks organization.
USE THE STUDY GUIDE FOR EXAMS. Definitely do extra credit, takes an extra 5 minutes max for each chapter and was the difference between an A and a B for me. Exams are specific questions, but are all straight out of the textbook/from the study guide + curves.
Dr Nevid's class was amazing. He has 3 tests which if you do mindtap you can receive extra credit for and curves. You have to buy the textbook online. There are pop quizzes but he tells everyone right when class starts so you can be prepared. (very easy) There is also another type of quiz which are all easy that he says what day they will be.
Prof Nevid was AWFUL. He made 9am classes dreadful. His tests are so incredibly hard and make NO SENSE. 75 questions. If you are going to listen to any of these reviews PLEASE let it be this one. I don't understand how he has a 4/5.
he's not easy, you definitely have to put in the work but he's very reasonable. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE EXTRA CREDIT!! exams are difficult but the extra credit and curves prevent them from ruining your grade. i would've gotten a B without them, but i did all the mindtap extra credit opportunities and ended with an A :)
Literally do not take this class! His tests are horrendously difficult! I am an A student and I couldn't handle it. The wording on each question was over-complicated and hard to understand. Some of the questions didn't even pertain to his study guide. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
He's a good professor. Do the extra credit assignments. He makes sure to provide many options to help boost our grades. Sometimes he gives a single question at the end of class (multiple choice) for an attendance grade. These points add up to help you. If you're willing to work hard and be rewarded for it, take him!
Don't get me wring he is a kind professor, but the class is rough. The test that he gives is HORRIBLE! 75 questions or a little more and the review sheet you get does not help at all. Also, homework is a lot of chapters to do. 9am class is not fun especially since he is not energetic, just makes it so boring and tiring.
Dr. Nevid's class wasn't that bad. The pop quizzes, SONA, and mind tap assignments are fairly easy to do. However, the exams can be quite difficult and I usually got 70's on those 3 exams. But getting an A in this class is possible as long as you put good use to your time management skills. Do all the extra credit opportunities and you'll be fine.
i actually really enjoyed this class. the tests are really difficult but there are only 3 and he gives homework and extra credit opportunities that are so helpful in boosting your grade. For a psych gen class it was not hard and I would recommend taking him because he is just a sweet little old man.
Honestly I am always fighting sleep in this class but keep yourself awake, do the textbook assignments and the extra credit which he gives a lot of, and you will be more than fine. The content is interesting if you pay attention and Nevid doesn't make anything harder than it is.
Only gives 3 tests for the semester and while that sounds good, it lowers your chances of doing well in the class. Test questions are worded insanely & because the textbook is written by him, he expects you to know everything word for word. Review sheets are mostly useless when it comes to the tests. Gives lots of hw but you have a lot of time.
Don't take him. His lectures are long and boring and don't even help with the test. The HW are the quizzes and it is a lot. I struggled so much I would not recommend.
An alright professor overall! His lectures are very long and a bit uninteresting, but you can tell he is kind and very knowledgable about psychology. Be prepared to do a lot of reading bc he does cover the material EXTREMELY quickly. Use the study guides he gives to study for the exams. He does give a lot of opportunities for extra credit though!
Easy class, all you have to do is do the reading on your own, his lectures are just going over what you already read on your own. No assignments other than the ones on Mindtap (basically open book quizzes and assignments) and extra credit is vocab. (easy grades) Only thing u gotta work for is studying for the chapter tests that are held in classes
Professor Nevid is not bad, you just have to put in some work. Show up to class, do Mindtap, (ESPECIALLY the extra credit) that helps a lot with tests. It also helped me go from a B to an A. Tests are 75 questions, I recommend reading the chapters to study and using the study guide and you'll be fine
Professor Nevid is not the worst professor, but the class is a lot of work. The tests are fairly hard and do require a lot of studying in my opinion. He does provide opportunities for extra credit and the class is mostly a lecture and the MindTap assignments and textbook readings are done on your own. Two tests and a final exam.
Get ready to work. The class is mostly online readings bolstered by the lectures. Long chapters of reading accompanied by a few basic/easy assignments, then a cumulative quiz on the chapter. 3 tests during the semester each with A TON of material, so expect to do a lot of studying. Overall a very nice professor just get ready to apply yourself.
He was very hard. His lectures were really unrelatable and long. I struggled a lot because of how fast paced it was. I don't recommend taking him unless you can handle the workload load. His tests are insanely worded, which made it difficult. The textbook was also made by him and very expensive.
Professor Nevid is super nice and very understanding. His lectures are long but have a lot of information in them. The chapter work is super easy and helpful. DO ALL EXTRA CREDIT! The tests are 60-75 questions and extremely difficult, the extra credit can bump your grade up an entire letter grade. Good class, just be prepared to study a lot.
1 quiz question every class, long chapters, mind tap questions for hw, exams are all multiple choice, lecture heavy. Highly recommend to read and study the study guide plus slides. The study guide is very broad, need to do more than just study that, don't study last minute. Lab is only 4 hours, easiest thing can do questionaries or surveys online.
Nevid's class requires some work, but the extra credit and study aids like Mindtap and unstuck study make it manageable. Attend lectures, use the provided resources, and you'll do well. Not the most exciting class, but a fair professor.
I took his class during my first semester, and from what I remember, it's not difficult to PASS the class, he gives a lot of opportunity for you to pass. Getting a GOOD GRADE is difficult. You can pretty easily get by with around a B, the exams are only 50%, and he gives extra credit, but getting an A will take some effort
Professor Nevid is truly amazing at what he does. He makes all his students feel seen and understood and explains everything so thoroughly. He is extremely personable and even provides examples from his real life in his lectures which I think is cool. A good professor does not mean easy work. If you pay attention every class, should be good.
Generally fine, nothing exceptional. Every class was him reading summaries of his own book with a basic quiz question at the end. As long as you pay attention to the textbook and focus on memorizing terms, you'll be fine. He was distant outside of class, going as far as refusing to send the study guide for a makeup exam because "I asked too late."
very passive aggressive when asked for help. classes on their own were fine, though slow paced. take what you can get, tests are highly detail oriented.
