Excellent teacher! TEACHING STYLE: very interesting, keeps lectures fun & casual ASSIGNMENTS: 4 papers, not hard, lets you re-write to get a better grade TESTS: only midterm & final, a little challenging, but he pretty much gives you all the answers during the review OVERALL: very good, nice and helpful. Just dont take advantage of his generosity!
very fun class, gives you always a chance to redo a paper and teaches well
The nicest guy in the world. He is really passionate about literature and loves to hear students opinions about the stories or poems. Keeps the class interesting and fun. Very understanding and open minded.
He is a really good professors. He gives you the chance to get a good grade in class. His option of rewrites is awsome. I recomend him!!
One the best professors. He knows his subject very well. Lets you improve without loosing a good grade. Down to earth, makes classes interesting.
Mr. Nishimura is a great teacher. I had him for English 21 and he is very clear on the subject. He gives students the chance to express themselves and he gives good lectures. I would definitely recommend him!
He teaches very well. He taught me how to think critically on a subject. I love him so much. I recommend him.
Great teacher. I love the way he teaches, interesting subjects. Never boring. when he assigns us essay assignments he gives you the opportunity to rewrite it for a better grade. HIGHLY recommend him.
This teacher is a fair grader, assigns 4 essays which aren't complicated because the topics are interesting. teacher is open to extra credit work which is based on newspaper articles. helpful man, one of the best english instructors!! I'll be taking him again next semester.
Jeffrey is a great teacher. He is the best english teacher that i have ever had. I entered his class having no clue on how to write any essay and i now have learned how to be a good writer. He makes class fun and interesting. A funny guy. Just an all together great guy!!!
He was more about quality than quantity for his papers which I liked. More professors should be like that. Grade based on 3 essays + cumulative final (matching, short answer, long answer). Keeping up with readings will help for the final. Good attendance helps your grade. Overall, good professor and nice guy.
This teacher isn't too difficult because the essay topics are interesting. He teaches based on students interest. Very up to date guy. cute too:)
His topic are interesting. It will make you want to really write.
I took that teacher. He is a really good teacher. His readings are always interesting and you never get bored in his class. He always let you to rewrite essays and if you follow his instructions you will always pass his class
HIS THE BEST TEACHER OUT THERE. HE HAS A GREAT WAY OF TEACHING, ONLY 4 EASY, AND A FINLY. HE LIKE FOR STUDENTS TO GET INTO GROUPS A LOT, AND DO THE CLASS WORK TOGETHER.HE LETS YOU TO RE-WRITE YOUR EASYS, TO GET A BETTER GRADE. HIS REALLY FUN, TAKE HIM, HIS THE BEST.
I don't know how this Prof does it but he is one of the best Professors. Not just because he's organize & explains clearly but because he guide stuents to undertand and analyze materials critically. My advice, be prepared when coming to class -- you will be greatly rewarded. And participate in group and in class as a whole.
I LOVE HIM
He is one of the best teachers at this campus. Exceptional teacher, curretly taking eng. 101 and hes great!
Great Prof, fun class. Interesting and entertaining.
The best professor. The class is not hard the essays are easy. Do all the assignments and participate in class discussion and you will pass. There is a lot of group work!
I loved his 101 class! He makes you think about what's really going on in this crazy world! He's a great teacher. If you don't want to be bored & want to learn. Take his class!
Really good and helpful teacher~!! He gives you a lot of chances to rewrite your essays~!! Also, you will improve your writing skills while taking his class~~
Nishimura is a fair and understandable teacher..all the class work is done in groups.Essays aren't complicated you just need to do the readings because thats what the essay will be based on,readings and discussions in class..
Great teacher highly recommend him!
Best English teacher at LACC! Highly recommend.
Professor Nishimura is the finest and most caring teacher at Los Angeles City College. I just love him.
Excellent TEACHER! I have no idea how he does it but everybody loves him and English too. HIGLY INTELLEGENT, SMART, OPEN MINDED, POLITE, RESPECTFUL, INTERESTING ... These are just few of his qualities. Eng103 was a great pleasure for me. Jeffrey, thanks for Kafka "Country Doctor", your detailed analysis was brilliant. Now I read Nabokov. THANKS!
one of the best professors that i have ever taken. He's an easy teacher who teaches well, he helps students with their assignments. If you need to learn from a good teacher who cares about his students then he's the right professor for you.
THEEEEEE BEST!!! I WISH ALL PROFESSOR'S IN THE WORLD WERE LIKE HIM. MAKES THE HARDEST TOPICS SO EASY. EVERYBODY IN MY ENG 101 CLASS LOVED HIM, AND SAID THAT THEY MOST DEFINITELY WILL REGISTER FOR HIS CLASSES IN THE FUTURE
What an amazing teacher! I loved his class! He made the classroom environment really comfortable which got a lot of people to participate. Every class was interesting. Highly recommended!
English 103. Class was composed of lectures, discussions, and group work based on the readings. Your grade was based on an essay, midterm (short answer questions and short essay), a final, participation, and a research paper with a short presentation. Professor Nishimura likes to cuss, is very honest and open, and extremely knowledgeable.
Nishimura is this best English teacher at LACC. He cusses, is down to earth, and knows his stuff. His comments on your papers help you improve your writing and he allows you to rewrite poor essays for a better grade. Shi*, he lets you rewrite Bs to get and A. I recommend Nishimura for all your English classes.
i dont what else to say about this professor besides how amazingly great he is I've had him for English 101 and 103 and a can say that I enjoyed every single second being in his class. You r lucky to have him. I wish more teachers like him taught in this college. Prof Nishimura your the best
entertaining while teaching tasks are challenging
He is pretty easy. His teaching is kind of unique.
this guy is the best, very helpful and brings up good topics, u get 2 watch a movie "battle royal" he's a fair grader, i got an A, but u need to put in effort, my essay were good and i didn't have to talk much in class
HE'S THE GREATEST TEACHER EVER!!!
Jeff Rules. He is extremely intelligent and he's young which is a plus. He is also very nice and generous with grading as long as you put forth an effort in his class. The readings for the most part are interesting and you get to choose writing topics. very cool guy. best class i've taken at lacc.
the best professor in english, very clear what he wants from you in essays and project.I think he has the biggest heart and he really cares about his students.Over all the best class and excellent professor take him u will be happy:)I got an A.You wont miss his class thats how much you will enjoy his class!
I highly recommend him. Very flexible, down to earth, offers ?split grades? on assignments and encourage you to re submit work for the higher grade. As an added bonus, he is very competent in what he teaches, so you can take his lectures to the bank. He is a standup guy. I highly recommend him.
Nishimura is a good guy, he goes off on tangets, but is interested for the most part. I would take another class again. Alot of reading, 3 papers, and a mid-term and final. Pretty stright forward and standard.
HE IS VERY DIFFICULT
You guys, these teachers write these reviews themselves.
great professor teaches alot clear and honest... nice and helpful..
I highly recommend him. Very flexible, down to earth, offers split grades on assignments and encourage you to re submit work for the higher grade. .He is a standup guy. hes hekpful and clear on his aasingment
His teaching is kind of unique love him
he is down to earth, and knows his stuff. His comments on your papers help you improve your writing and he allows you to rewrite essays for a better grade.
he is down to earth, and knows his stuff. His comments on your papers help you improve your writing and he allows you to rewrite essays for a better grade.
He's a great professor. Real nice guy, but he's not as easy as people make him out to be. He's a bit tough on essays and it's hard to get an 'A' on them. Midterm was a little tough, but the final was easier. You just gotta really know your stuff and know how to back up what you write. 3 essays, midterm, and final. Allows rewrites of essays.
The class is interesting, but kind of hard. You have to write 4 essay,a midterm, and a final. Make sure to always answer: why, who, when, what? because he always marks papers if you do answer those.
Nishimura is highly overrated. I heard wonderful things about this professor but frankly i don't see it. He's an average professor, when you go see him regarding your paper he doesn't help much. He is a nice person and he is very funny but his grading is far too difficult. He wants you to have flawless writing. I wouldn't recommend his class =/
Nishimura is a great teacher, he elaborates and explains the text. dosen't impress his own views on a student so it was a fun class. Goes at a good pace, not easy grader but a fair one. I suggest people take him, to improve thier writing.
not as easy as i thought but he really challenged me to write excellent papers. the class is fun and engaging. overall jeff is incredible
don't blame the teacher because you didn't try hard enough. he is fair in his grading and offers excellent and constructive criticism. you can rewrite your papers and improve the quality of your essays. his lectures and discussions are always insightful and fun, and socially relevant but unbiased, which is awesome. we need more teachers like hi
Awesomeness!!!! His class was fun! Lots of discussions. He grades fairly--you can always re-write papers for a higher grade. I would definitely take him again!!!
i have to admit that he's overrated. He does allow you to rewrite all the papers so you can improve your grades. However, every time you get back your rewrites, you will see that he's found the mistakes which he didn't find first. This makes you to get even worse grade.
Great teacher. His class is very helpfull for improving writting. One of the best proffessors in LACC. He is not that hard. If you rewrite your essays you'll get a higher grade. The essays are not that long.
He kept saying that white men made him feel like a girl. He kept talking about Hello Kitty and Japanese Horror Movies. Hope you are not traveling far to get to this class cause half the time he doesn't talk about the class work. He says he is a feminist. He says he is a Marxist. He says he spends all his free time watching movies. It shows.
I had Jeff for 101 and 103. He grades the essays roughly. You can rewrite them for a higher grade, but chances are it wont do you much good. He finds insignificant mistakes throughout and marks you down because of them. His class discussions are really fun, but in the end getting a good grade is what matters and for that I do not recommend him.
He keeps blaming white people for everything so I guess he doesn't know that racism is not okay... he swears all the time... it is F and S all the time so that makes the classroom a kind of a pile of garbage...its okay to say that with your friends but we are not his freinds..
he's awesome! I never heard him talk about white men... but, he teaches in a way were you wont feel threatened. Very fun! took 101,102 got B,A. Need i say more... ;)
well i had this professor for english 101 and 102. he makes the class fun. hes not a boring teacher at all hes very true in what he says and hes there to help you pass!. all you have to do is the 3 essays he assigns and he even lets you re-write them! but if you are a closed minded person i suggest you dont take this class!
horrible teacher. no chance to get an A. likes politics and requires essays about political issues only. won't get a good grade if u don't write from his point of view. u can't have your opinion in your essays if u wann a get an A
He will give you an A only if your essay is a full of FACTs, not of your ideas and opinions. And even if you just don't read at all and write whatever is in your brain, he will still grade your work with no worse than a C.
loved Prof Nishimura!! His topics are interesting and lets you re-write your essays prior to not doing good on them!! He's so likable and friendly!! If ur lazy it's only logical you'll fail.. He's funny too
When I met with him, I sensed he did not grade my work himself. Asking for feedback was futile. Class reminded me of my jr. high Civics class rather than English. Sadly, there was 0 discussion on writing techniques/grammar, & plenty on politics/ethics.He has a wonderfully dry sense of humor.I'd love to hear more of his family stories. He's charming
I took him for both Eng 101 and 103 and absolutely loved him! You want to attend his class because discussions are always interesting and you get a lot out of it...from politics to rights to philosophers. A must take if your interested in learning a thing or two, and he lets you rewrite your essays once you've met with him.
Profesor Nishimura is really cool i never thought english was so easy untill i had his class. The way he explains stuff is really clear. If you have questions you could talk to him and he could be really understandable. I recomend prof. Nishimura becuase he will make english easy.
If you want to get an A in his class, you must agree with everything he says. All he does is talk about politics, our class is like a political science debate class, not english class. Except despite the claim that he wants to open our minds, as soon as we voice a different opinion, he silences it.
he does not lecture about english AT ALL. he marks you down for EVERYTHING in essays yet he doesn't even teach you HOW to write an essay. everything is about politics in his class & if u don't have the same views well..tough luck! I'm afraid of english 101 next sem because he's not even teaching us to be better writers.
Super friendly, knowledgeable, and funny. He gives you unlimited opportunities to rewrite papers, which makes getting an A fairly easy.
My FAVORITE teacher! He's very knowledgable and knows how to keep the class interested! The classwork is very fun and he gives interesting essay topics, so its easy to write good essays. And might I add, he's pretty cute ;) LOVED HIS CLASS!
Very good Professor. Very interesting discussions in class. His grading is fair and he gives great pointers to help students write concisely and logically. Fair amount of reading assignments on interesting philosophical topics. Prof. Nishimura is definitely interested in making his students succeed. Great class!
you can write well, but if you cant site a paper you wont pass, he does not help you and if you have to make appoitment to see him for help, not clear, worse descion I made to take him, I can't drop so i hope i pass this unruly, unhelpful, unprofessional professor
DISCLAIMER: I may be somewhat biased b/c we definitely has similar views. Objectively speaking, he is not the easiest nor the hardest English prof. In fact, I would say he's much more understanding & empathetic than most. That said, he will not beg for your work -as no prof. should. Anyone taking his class should count themselves lucky. VERY lucky.
arrogant professor throughout course, i wanted to drop, but couldn't I need the class to transfer,u have to agree with him or he thinks your ignorant,he will not help you in office hours, says to email only if u have paper drafts, otherwise ask in front of class your question,.make sense at this level. If u like to argue, take him.
very good teacher. awesome
SUPER, DUPER, GREAT PROF.!
I do not know why students who are rating him say he is not helpful, or have no chance in an A. The class is so chill! Not as in I can be lazy all day etc but I mean you can rewrite essays. He always ask if we have questions or need help. We work in groups! And we read short interesting stories. I took eng 101 and eng 102. He's awesome!
Listen, take notes, ask questions, read a lot, learn a lot! Show your interest. Have problem? Talk to him, eager to listen and help. THE BEST!
He expects you to know how to write, he will not teach you how to write. HE ONLY TALKS ABOUT RELIGION, POLITICS, AND SENSELESS STUFF THAT HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH ENGLISH. You can re-write an essay, but seriously, do not expect to get a higher grade than what you got the 1st time. I regret taking him.
awesome teacher, he has about 3 writing assignments the whole semester not including the final and midterm that are essays coming from readings done in class and home. Do the readings and take notes about what he thinks is important ask questions befor the test he will help out alot. also there isnt much homework beside papers and some short essays
Nishimura is awesome! He doesn't mess around, and yes, he expects you to know how to write, which most students need help with. His office hours allow students to seek guidance on essays, and he allows rewrites. The assignments, class discussions, and essays were extremely interesting and fun to do. Must go to class, he assigns daily assignments!
Most professors get ratings based on how "easy" the class is, well grow up. No transferrable class SHOULD be easy. This class is for people who want to improve. Nishimura lets you rewrite your essays, and gives you an two grades on papers (B-/C+) that is based on your participation.
Really great English teacher, will make you a better writer but you gotta work for it.
Great English professor! Thanks to his class I became a much better writer and critical thinker. Yes, Nishimura covers provocative topic but this is what makes us think critically. To pass the class have to be on time, read and submit all assignments on time, and pay attention in the class.
Fanstastic!
Great English professor. Take advantage of his office hours & his make-up work on exams. Fun writing topics & great class discussions.
He's very great teacher. Helps you out if you need it. It is not true that he accepts only his opinion... He actually wants students to have their own opinion. If you're lazy and you just want easy passing don't take him. Because he is strict and he expects a lot. The best thing about him that he actually teaches you how to write a good essay!!!
Attendence in his class is a must. Dont show up, dont get a good grade. Plain and simple. Turn in your essays on time, you pass the class. I was in the winter 2015 semester so it was fast paced, but he still taught it really well. He's really funny and is very helpful if you need it.
Not a great professor beware some of the ratings are misleading. Tough grader definitely won't help you if he doesn't know who you are. Uses a lot of profanity when he doesn't comprehend what you're asking of him. Overall I would not recommend this guy. Try another professor.
Best English teacher at lacc. He is absolutely the best! I took him in the summer, so very fast pace. Attendance is a must if you want to pass. His classes get filled up quickly so if you have a chance add him
If you can avoid him, DO IT!. assignments are pretty clear if you read the given material beforehand. HOWEVER, HES A TOUGH GRADER!. you have unlimited re-dos for your papers, but it seems like each time you've corrected all the mistakes hes murdered the paper with, heill find more, and more and more. more than 82% C's in the class. avoid avoid !!
He is by far the best English teacher! I took him for summer and got an A. Reading, writing essays, and group work are pretty easy. He does use a lot of bad words, but didn't bother me. He's pretty cool.
I took Nishimura for English 28. He's a good professor, the only thing that I didn't like was the way he corrected essays. Everything was either "too vague" or "irrelevant"! You could turn in a solid 5 page essay and he will still find ways to butcher it with red pen. Other than that he's pretty cool!
Great teacher. He will teach you how to write and simplify it as much as possible. Although he is a tough grader, he will help you out if you see him during his office hours. He does use profanity, but keeps it very minimal. Don't expect an easy A for this class. English is my least favorite subject, but his class benefits my writing. I got an A.
Mr. Nishimura is intense. He really wants his students to learn. His class is tough but you will learn A LOT. My writing definitely has improved a lot. He's also a tough grader. I worked hard for my A and that was on top of my psych class during summer session. He the one to take if you want to learn and improve your writing skills.
Great professor! a lot of difficult assignments but it's worth to it
I have had Nishimura for Eng28, 101, and now 103. There is a reason I take this professor. The reading and subject matter are inspirational. He teaches on the university level, so if you plan to transfer, you will be well prepared. Anyone with criticism about his class is one who expects it to be easy, or academically unprepared.
He really cares about his student and allows re-write the papers. We have three papers and midterm and final. He even considers the improvement a lot. I got a B on my midterm and A/B on my second paper though. I was able to get an A with my last paper and final. Yeah!!
I love professor Nishimura, he gave us 3 essays 2 midterms and a final test. We did group work and he likes attendance participation. Our final essay was 15 pgs but he gives you a structure easy to follow plus office hours for possible essay thesis. If you re-write your papers plus participate you can easy get an A or a B. I will recommend him.
Prof. Nishimura's lectures are always inspirational! He's not your typical boring English professor. He's very hype, detail-orientated and mostly helpful for whenever you need clarification or guidance. His class is all about reading the material and in-class participation. He does give chances to rewrite for a better grade, which is awesome!
Professor Nishimura is a great professor with his outstanding lectures. However, truth be told, he is difficult. He grades very harshly and his writing was really sloppy when he graded my essays. Out of all the professors I have taken at LACC, he is one of the hardest professors. Nishimura is not an easy A, but I still managed to passed.
After taking Nishimura, I have had my personal experience taking his course and here's the breakdown. Yes his lectures are clear and fluid. However,he lacks feedback. His outlines are really odd and confusing. If you know how to write good, take him. But, if you want a professor who will help you don't take him. He expects you to know how to write
Professor Nishimura is a tough grader. You'll need to pay attention to his lectures, take a lot of notes, write well and a lot. If you're not the best writer, he will help you to improve. You WILL have to work for it and you will have to want to learn and improve. He curses a lot in class and is hilarious. If this offends you do elsewhere.
My favorite teacher thus far! Makes you such a better writer. He is difficult, but is well-intentioned and really wants to push his students to succeed at the university level. If you have a hard time in his class, go see him in office hours. He is incredibly helpful. I wish I could take him again!
He is funny, very knowledgeable and does care about his student's ability to write and learn what he teaches. His class for summer was difficult, but doable if you attend and pay attention. He will make you a more effective writer and, critical thinker. I recommend him for All his subjects he teachers. Just pay attention.
Take him
He is wonderful. He keeps class interesting. I never missed a lecture. This class is time consuming. You will be writing long papers. However, he prepares you for transferring. He is passionate about students succeeding. He gives excellent feedback and allows you to redo papers! He really is a gem. I'll be taking his other classes for sure.
He thinks outside the box. He grades tough, but I am a MUCH better writer going out than coming in. Loved his course material. He never ceased to surprise me with his content. Way to go Nishimura!! You were my first college class after ten years out of school and confirmed school is right for me. Take him, but be ready to think critically!
I have also been out of school for 10 years. I realized that I might just suck at English and writing essays. That being said, after being in Nishimura's class, I have learned so much. He's a tough grader but he lets you rewrite. He's also very laid back and chill, making it easier to communicate with him. I had no problems with this teacher.
Nishimuras class material is always up to date. He gives very detailed feedback and lets you rewrite your paper. His grading is on improvement, so the first papers do not really matter. Very interesting man and definitely one of the best Professors Ive taken!
Professor Nishimura is the best ! He lets you rewrite your paper if you are not happy with your grade. His lectures are awesome ! I learned something new everyday, they were never boring so class was always fun. Gives articles that you discuss in class so remember to read before class
I took his class during winter, he is an amazing person, but a very tough grader teacher. Too much things to do in a short period of time. I think it's winter semester, I would suggest taking during spring or fall. He gives great feedback, but no extra credit and no redo's. But you will learn something. The essays themes are boring though...
HE IS AMAZING ENGLISH TEACHER. VERY HELPFUL AND SKILLFUL. I LEARNED HOW GOOD TEACHERS MAKE STUDENTS WORK HARDER. AMAZING EXPERIENCE. TEACHES GRAMMAR AND ESSAY VERY WELL.
I have been fortunate enough to take 2 online courses with prof. Even though his lectures are online, they are so detailed and clear. He uploads a video with transcription. Textbooks are required but they are so good that I keep them and read them on my own. He's very helpful and gives extra credit but you do have to put in work, totally worth it.
Literally the best Professor I have ever had! He truly has a passion for teaching and his modules are hilarious. Imagine that, a college professor that makes learning hilarious. His feedback only makes you a better writer and doesnt make you feel stupid. I never imagined myself wanting to teach until I took this course with him. A rare Professor.
AMAZING!!! fun, smart, and so helpful. i took him online. you can rewrite your essays for a higher grade. jen let us do 1 missed assignment & offered a TON of extra credit. readings were required but he explains everything sooo thouroughly. i got a 104.5% overall.
He is very clear on what he needs from you on assignments and offers rewrites when you want to improve your grade. Very laid back, makes time for questions, overall easy to pass if you put in the effort and show up.
HE IS JUST SIMPLE GREAT. Unforgettable experience. Lot of energy, very creative, super fun personality. You will know a lot! Probably will change your major to the literature as well. Easy and understandable. Excellent Teacher
Very disappointing. Do NOT take his Summer online class, unless you confidently know the MLA format. No time to turn in drafts, one-time submission essays only, that's it. Gives vague and confusing feedback that is hard to understand and implement. He could use more video lectures to instruct, to rather than to announce. No lazy student here btw.
This professor is good, but dont take him if you are not ready to work hard. For those who took Eng 28 and 101 it will be easy and interesting. Classical literature, some marxism, analysis, critical thinking and your own expression - all that will be in this class. Dont be shy to write him and ask questions. You can even send him drafts for help!
I took his online class, there were three essays and several small assignments. Just log to canvas and follow each module every day answer his short assignments. For the essays, he is definitely a tough grader.
Discussions are simple. Took his Women In Literature course and he had us read 4 novels! Very critical on the papers, I suggest taking this course only if you're a part time student. The topics for his essays were boring and repetitive for all five essays, that's right, FIVE! He thinks its possible to read five novels in 16 weeks and analysis .
Tough Grader but has a fair grading system. If you get an A on 2nd essay, final, or final research paper you get an A in his class. Given how simple that sounds, he's a tough grader. Lets you rewrite as many times until you get an A but that's a lot of work in itself you probably won't do it. If you don't cite correctly you get an auto F. Fun class
Professor delight, esp his lectures. His online class is straight forward and easy to follow. The books needed for the class can be found in a pubic library or pdf online. Instructions on assignments are very clear. The professor is available via email/chat and answers quickly. I recommend him ! Definitely learn in his class.
Hard work is the key to success according to him.
Awesome, enthusiastic professor. Assignments and grading criteria could not be more clear. Offers rewrites and gives great feedback. Very difficult not to pass one of his classes unless you don't show up or don't want to read/do the work.
Best online class I've ever taken! Professor is very organized and puts up a lot of interesting content (aside from the lesson alone) that you actually want to read. His grading criteria is very clear and he gives excellent feedback on papers. He is available for office hours, but also makes himself available on chat at certain times in the week.
Where do I even start? There is a ton of readings in his class. And trust me when I say they are not the easiest to understand. Very harsh on grading. If he does not like your argument on your papers, you will get an F! Sure, he makes you rewrite them until you get an "A" which literally feels impossible in his class. I'm surprised I got a B tbh.
took two of his classes. great experience! I learned a lot as he assigned and led good discussions on so many good just amazing readings.
I really appreciated that the essays were spread out evenly which gave me enough time to read the book, analyze it and write the paper. I am not a great writer so this class was tough for me. However, I found his lectures fun, interesting and engaging. Your last assignments can dictate your final grade, so aim for an A on your last paper or final.
His class was okay. I don't think he liked my writing style and gave me a grade that I didn't expecting. His lectures are interesting, some are really boring. His class is only graded by essays, and two tests. Reading is very important but you have to understand the theories to do well. He kind of rushes through the theories, Had him 2 yrs ago.
He's very vague on his lectures. Sometimes he would go off tangent about something else that was not related. I think he did not like my writing. If he doesn't get your argument you get a lower grade. You can rewrite your essays to get a better grade though. His handwriting is not very legible. I had him a year ago.
I really liked this professor. He was very interested in seeing us succeed and was available for any questions you had. Very clear in his instructions and what he wants. His lectures are a lot but it is very informational and well written. I really learned a lot.
Jeffrey Nishimura had changed my life. Be careful, for some sensitive students with too much of imagination reading can be emotionally torturing. However, Professor Nishimura taught us much more beyond the class curriculum. By taking his class, I had discovered new aspects of my personality and the world. However, it is a hard class.
Professor Nishimura is an awesome professor. He genuinely cares about his students. I always struggled with writing the essay's but his feedbacks are just WOW! I have never seen a professor who gives so meticulous feedbacks. A very rare one!! Take the course, you will probably change your major.
Professor Nishimura is the best professor I ever had. He truly cares about his students and does everything in his power to help them achieve the highest grade possible. He gives wonderful feedback and lets you rewrite your essays until you're satisfied with your grade. He is a wonderful person, who is very supportive, smart, and inspirational.
I am a straight A student and this class really made that A, unachievable. Seriously the most boring classes, participation matters which can be difficult when you are not at all interested in the material. He teaches you about theories and the readings are all from the 1800's. Heavy reading, I believe there were three, 6 page essays. BORING.
The way he teaches is difficult to follow. As an English professor it is important to not misread the material and not correct yourself as students are following along. He does this often and will literally make words up that are not on the paper he is reading. Also difficult to understand the things he says. Spare yourself and take someone else.
He's the best English Professor. He grades fairly, is caring, understanding and is always available whenever you need him. He gives meticulous feedback and does everything for you to understand the theories. His class was interesting, and the lectures were amazing.
Great Professor, really nice !
Genuinely the single most disrespectful, degrading, and discouraging professor I have experienced at LACC. Incredibly tough grader with questionable feedback, wanting you to rather conform to his subjective analysis than to make your own. A professor who's in desperate need of humble-pie.
One of the best professors I've had at LACC. He is accommodating, fair, and willing to go out of his way to provide students with extensive feedback and resources. For anyone interested in growing or learning, he introduces 'scarier' English vocabulary and concepts in a way that is not intimidating. I learned a lot in this class!
Criticizes every single little detail you write for your essay nitpicks grammar (which grammar is my worse proficiency but I get help from those who are more knowledgeable to fix my grammar yet an D?,says “paragraphs” are too long when he's not specific how long paragraphs should last, and theme are very unclear and must follow professor's opinion
All 3 essays, if submitted on time, can always be rewritten for a higher grade. The annotations and corrections he leaves on the first submission help for rewrites. Those are the only graded assignments in the class; there is no homework. The readings can be a bit lengthy, so make sure to read at least a couple of pages a day. Very chill professor.
