such an amazing teacher!! he really cares about his students and how they are doing. he knows his stuff really well. he makes class really fun and interesting. take him if at all possible!!
This class was so hard for me!! I felt like he was trying to make it easy for the class, but his tests were impossible. He's a nice guy, but because of the huge class size, it was hard to get a hold of him. Also, he wasn't the greatest at explaining things. I love children, so I thought this class would be fun for me...not so much with him.
he was a really good teacher. i enjoyed him very much. you have to attend class and read if you want to do well. he will help you as long as you express interest in ur grade. he's really flexible about make ups and gives lots of extra credit. Attendance not mandatory but he gives out extra credit at random and it is very beneficial to attend class.
Great prof., very funny, willing to help as long as you ask. He gives plenty of opportunity for extra credit. Test are not easy but they are not impossible either as long as you go to class and understand what his lectures are about, if you try to memorize you will fail. Overall highly recommend him!
Dr. Parker is funny and REALLY wants you to do well in his class. His tests are a bit eccentric and so are his personalities. I got a 75 on his first test and now I have 103 average. You will get the hang of it if you try a little bit. He does this thing called relief fund points that help your grade out alot. Do them and you will be fine
Good class. Acts more like a travelling guest speaker, but very knowledge and proud of his work in the field. Great about getting you experiences outside the classroom if you want them. Lots of tests, pretty stressful - but boosts your grade.
fun guy. not very organized, if you take his seminar class be prepared to spend alot of your free time on the class
not organized, and doesn't give clear instructions, if you take his seminar class he'll will expect you to spend a lot of your free time on it. doesn't get anything done on time
if you take his seminar be prepared for a lot of confusion. He plays favorites some, and doesn't respond to emails quickly. He doesn't get things finished quickly either. He didn't use the book at all and he didn't follow his own syllabus
He really wants you to get an A. He gives you all the questions on the test the night before. The material is very interesting and he presents it in an interesting way. Not a boring class. I would definitely recommend him. He allows you to turn in a MC question after every class and gives you a point for each one of the tests.
fun class. he literally gives you the test questions the night before the tests. the final isnt cumulative, and he gives TONS of extra credit opportunities. only bad thing is he had a ton of TAs who were really unorganized and messed up a lot of stuff on the tests for the class. overall really easy... show up and you'll be fine.
Easy course. Literally gives you the test questions the night before the test. Kinda slow in posting the notes and encourages you not to take notes in the class room. The graduate teaching assistant messed up a few things on the tests, which was frustrating. but the class ran pretty smoothly. easy A+, tons of bonus!
Great guy and excellent professor! He has so many opportunities for bonus points if you go to class. I loved going to class everyday! If you go to class and do the work it won't be hard to get an A.
BEST class I've ever taken! Loved going to class to listent to Dr. Parker lecture. Attendance isn't required but it is for points and you get bonus points for submitting questions in class. Very easy because you end up loving the material and it doesn't even feel like studying. Also the information is useful in everyday life!
One of my favorite professors I have had! Dr. Parker is a laid back, cool professor. He really cares about his students doing well, and obviously loves what he does. Makes class entertaining. The only reason somebody would not get an A would be because they didn't put in the effort. He gives a ton of bonus. I definitely recommend taking him.
Absolute best teacher ever! He wants everyone to make an A and he will do whatever is takes to help you!! Attend class, study, and you've got it!
Dr. Parker is by far the best professor at The University of Alabama! He wants his students to succeed and will do everything in his power to be sure you receive the grade you deserve and want!
Dr. Parker is very friendly however be prepared if you don't attend class he will deduct points off for participation. He can be very critical in his grading of papers. I usually receive A's in all my writing and he is the first teacher to ever give me his equivalent of B's and C's.
Awesome teacher! Makes his lectures so interesting and is very clear on what you need to know. He wants you to understand and wants everyone to make an A. There are learning assignments each week where you have to read an article or watch a video and then write on certain aspects of it or answer questions. Also have to raise a virtual child- fun!
This was Child Development Psychology, which is obviously interesting to begin with, but Dr. Parker made it a blast! From the very first lecture during syllabus week, I knew it would be enjoyable. There are weekly learning exercises worth 12 pts. Usually about 2 pages each, but they're not difficult and you can submit anything late for half credit.
Dr. Parker is probably the best professor I've had in my time at UA. His lectures are interesting and he genuinely wants every one of his students to succeed. He structures the class so that it is nearly impossible to make anything but an A if you put in some effort. Weekly homework assignments, frequent tests, and lots of extra credit!
I absolutely LOVED Dr. Parker's class! He is by far one of the best professors I have ever had! He makes class fun and enjoyable, like seriously he made class so entertaining! He prepares you so well for tests by holding study sessions, sending out test tips, and posting in depth notes online. He genuinely cares about you and wants you to do well!
It's practically impossible not to get a good grade in this class because Dr. Parker prepares you so well. He even says most everybody gets an A in his class. This is not a blow off class because you do have to complete assignments and study, but he is so clear about what's on the exams and I was never stressed about taking his tests. He's the best
Assigns a lot of homework. Tests can be tough
Dr. Parker is a great professor. You do have a lot of work in this class but you'll get an A if you put in the effort. you have a test after each unit, about 12 Learninb exercises and 6 virtual child assignments. I loved Dr. Parker's class. I recommend you take him if you get the chance.
By far the best professor I've had at UA! He truly wants all of his students to get A's, and always wants to help them do so any way he can. There are a lot of assignments, but it's extremely hard not to make an A unless you try not to, and the material is interesting too. He's the nicest professor I've had and has humor.
Dr. Parker cares so much about his students and wants everyone to do well. He sets aside a lot of time to meet with students and help them study. He gives lots of extra credit (every class and even more online). He gives a clear outline of what's on the test, no textbook, homework assignment every week, but they're all interesting. He's hilarious
Dr. Parker has been my favorite professor so far at UA. He really cares about his students and will help them as much as he can. He posts the notes online, but showing up to class is still important because he gives participation extra credit, which helped me receive a hundred in the class. He's hilarious and engaging. It was never a boring class.
He's the most unorganized, inefficient, unprofessional professor that I've ever encountered. Seriously, if you're looking for a class where you're actually going to learn something useful, don't take this one.
Dr. Parker's 380 class was one of my favorites! This is a class that involves the community. It can feel disorganized but that is what comes when you work with the community and city officials. I definitely recommend taking it, you won't regret it! Plus he has fabulous lectures in both this class and his 352 class.
Professor Parker is literally the best. He makes the material very interesting and definitely puts his own experience into making sure you know the material. He does a lot of in class activities for extra credit and truly wants students to succeed. Would take another class with him in a heartbeat!!
Dr. Parker is amazing!!! Take him! He is well respected by his students and gives you a clear outline of what he expects. Also, he offers extra credit everyday! Take his class for an easy A. Plus he does not require a textbook.
Dr. Parker is very friendly and obviously passionate about what he teaches. Tests are very easy if you put in a little effort. There are 6 but none of them can be dropped (AKA you can't skip the final like most PY classes). A LOT of time consuming writing assignments. Not necessarily hard, but they do get annoying. Lots of extra credit.
Dr. Parker is hands down one the kindest and most respectful professors I have met. He will give you every opportunity to succeed (bonus in class every day, online and after every test). The class is interesting and informative. Hardest part is staying on top of the writing exercises (which take some time but are easy as well). Take this class.
I have taken Dr. Parker for PY 352 & Py 491. TAKE HIM!! Possibly my favorite professor that I have ever had. He takes time out to help his students, especially if you take his seminar. Attendance is on you, but it will affect your grade & learning if you skip much. He honestly cares about his students. He makes learning fun & interesting. The best!
Doesn't use a textbook; tests are based off of lectures. Gives plenty of extra credit options. Random in-class activities so attendance is necessary but not required. He has such a unique perspective on psych and his lectures were so engaging. Take him!!!
Dr. Parker is seriously one of the best professors on campus. He is very caring about all his students, and makes it clear he wants the best grades for each person. There are several opportunities to raise your grade throughout the semester.
Great lecturer!!! Hes a whole lot of fun and makes the material accessible and understandable. The material has helped me see a lot of flaws in myself and others, and how they may have developed in their youth. Great class. Take it!
I recommend that every person take Dr. Parker's class. This man is absolutely incredible. He made me want to go to class. He's talented in so many different ways other than just teaching. I'm excited to see what he does in his life next.
Dr. Parker is one of the kindest, best professors at UA. Absolutely take him (any of his classes) if you have the chance. It is a pretty easy A, though you will have to put in the work and write quite a few papers, but they are graded pretty leniently as long as you are trying.
Easily one of the best professors I've had here. He cares about his students more than any other teacher I've had. I would take him for everything if I could, but this class he made so interesting and relatable.
One of the easiest A+'s. While the tests are tricky, he gives well over a test worths amount of extra credit throughout the semester so you can get B's on every test and still make an A+. The learning exercise papers are graded so easily and as long as you follow the guidelines you get 100%. He does random in class activities so you have to attend.
Don't be easily deceived by his great score. While Dr. Parker is a great lecturer, his course is hard to follow. Many of the topics are conceptual and the questions on the tests are very nuanced. People hype him up but he is full of himself. He basically designed the course but there are many flaws such as not being able to relate to students.
Great professor who cares immensely about all of his students. Has tons of extra credit opportunities and tests are fairly easy. Posts all of his notes online and practically gives you the test questions the day before the test. If you get perfect attendance he invites you to a special study session before the test which is very helpful.
He is an interesting and fun professor which made his lectures and class really enjoyable. He doesn't take attendance but random class activities are given for points. There is almost weekly homework, which is easy but may take up to an hour to do. Tests are eh but notes are posted online and attending class helps A LOT
This class has an assignment due weekly and occasionally 2 a week, these assignments have a length requirement of anywhere from 1-4 pages and you could literally sum up what he wants with a paragraph. He does random in-class activities that will affect your grade if you miss too many.
Do not be fooled by the great ratings. If you are willing to write 1-2 papers (assignments) a week, take 6 tests, and go to class 3 days a week then this class is for you. Otherwise, if you are not committed or not a psych major then I would advise against it. The work is pure busy work and all papers can be summed up in one paragraph.
He gives a TON of extra credit and his classes are only lectures and ppts, you will write A LOT of papers, theres no text book, and he gives you a study guide before every class (if you have perfect attendance in between tests hell give you his answers to his study guide for the test he writes, easy A). If you dont come to class, youll fail.
His lectures are very engaging, and he knows how to make students have fun while learning. You have to go to class for attendance points. He offers a lot of extra credit, but you still have to go to class to get a good grade. Only bad thing- A LOT of writing. Around 2 1 page papers due per week, but they're not hard. Listen and they're easy.
I am not trying to be mean, but I have no idea how his ratings are so high. I did have to take this class all online due to covid, but still he was horrible. He is a very nice guy, however he should not be teaching. His lectures are very confusing and do not line up with the course material. His exams are not straightforward. Stay away!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lectures make almost no sense in relation to test material and are weirdly structured. Tests are extremely hard even if you think you understand the content, as questions are very obscure. At least one or two 1,000 word essays a week. Just feels like so much busy work and consumes so much time every week.
Dr. Parker is a genuinely nice person who wants his students to succeed. However, his class was hell for me last semester. There were 6 (!!!) tests for the semester, 1-2 BIG weekly assignments that are only lightly related to exam content, and a grading system that makes no sense.
Dr. Parker's lectures are extremely confusing and often requiring 2-3 watches to understand. He assigns 1-2 papers a week that are often just busy work and take up unnecessary time. There are 6 tests with many confusing questions on them and his grading system is ODD. Also still waiting on multiple email responses from January.
Dr. Parker is a really nice guy, very knowledgeable in this field of study. However, this class is so much work. 2-5 video lectures (usually 40 min each) per test to watch: they are engaging but hard to comprehend the important info. Also 2 essay-style assignments a week that felt like busy work. The way tests are worded is somewhat difficult too.
Makes calculating grades impossible. Does not believe in blackboard grades and sends them in a weird format via email that is hard to read. Loves to make grammar and spelling mistakes on tests and lectures. Lectures can be distracting with animations and music. Gives out free points so pay attention. Lots of writing 2 papers per week.
I feel like Dr. Parker does want his students to succeed but this class has a ridiculous amount of work. 2 essays a week with long instructions/prep, 6 tests, & weekly child-raising program w/ occ. writing prompts. No textbook, so hard to follow lectures. Does give extra credit. Don't take unless you're willing to spend a ton of time on busy work.
A lot of these reviews say the class was hard and a lot of work, but I honestly didn't think so. It seems at first that there's a lot of homework, because there are a good many essays you have to write, but they are easy and quick papers and weren't graded tough. He really wants you to succeed and learn the information well. I loved his class.
Dr. Parker is an incredible lecturer who cares for his students. He's very fair in grading and gives you ample opportunity to make up any missed work. If you're invested in his class, it's easy. He puts a lot of effort into giving helpful feedback and helping students succeed. There are 6 exams, but it is not as overwhelming as it first seems.
Dr. Parker is one of the only teachers who actually made me want to participate. His class is fascinating and has several different aspects that help you to make a high grade even if you aren't the best test taker. He makes you think in the best way and is someone I hope I can take again. He is always more than willing to help his students succeed!
There is a ridiculous amount of work in this class. I feel like he wanted this to be our main focus despite having other classes. Every week we had 2 papers due and 6 exams throughout the semester, plus three 45 minute lectures to watch outside of class. He is passionate which made it tolerable, but get ready to do a LOT of work.
There are two outcomes of this class: do extremely well or extremely bad. The best way to do well is to go to class because he goes over concepts more in depth and gives extra credit. You will have to watch video lectures and do a lot of work. The best advice is to take notes during class and videos, and you'll be fine. My fav class at UA.
I loved Dr. Parker. He was one of my all time favorite professors and the content of his class was great. I attended class every day, and I def wouldn't have gotten an A if I didn't. He gets to know each of his students personally, and works hard to make sure they succeed with the grade they want in this class. Endless extra credit opportunities.
Although Dr.Parker is super sweet and cares about his students, his course is way too heavy. He expects 1-2 papers/essays a week talking about one of the side courses. He also has many small homework assignments all due the same time. The tests are poorly written with long paragraphs and unrelated information. Don't take this course with him.
Such an easy class and professor. If you have common sense you will do well. His tests come directly from the videos he puts out and are so easy. He give tons of extra credit throughout the semester and makes it super easy to succeed.
He's very enthusiastic about teaching. Class is not mandatory, but he makes the class harder for you if you don't attend. His test are harder than you think and are definitely not from memorization. There's a decent amount of homework. One extra credit assignment, unless you attend class than there is more in class. He is just kinda extra.
Dr. Parker is a very good communicator, in class as well as over emails. He gives tons of info and keeps students updated on all matters. He also makes things very entertaining and is very personable. I have deeply enjoyed his class, and while it does require a good bit of reading/writing, the work is engaging and interesting. Highly recommend!
Very nice. Gives a lot of extra credit to those who come to class. Watching videos online is mandatory either way.
he seems to care a lot about his students and how they grasp the material. however, on tests, its like hes more interested in wording it in an intelligent way than he is in us being able to understand the question. theres plenty other assignments to make up for low test grades
Lectures are online. Full of jargon and present info rapidly and abundantly. I don't learn from staring at a computer screen at all. You are basically paying for an in person class and getting online. A LOT of redundant, unnecessary homework that comes in the form of papers. I like him as a person, not as a prof.
Don't take this class with him. Nice guy, really cares, and makes it interesting but that's just not enough. You have a test every 2 weeks, and an essay and long virtual assignment every week. He says class is not required, but it basically is. Long classes, with even longer online modules. Acts like this is the only class ever. Weird grading.
I'm currently taking Dr. Parker's class now and I would say it's challenging. You HAVE to make sure you pay attention in class and watch the weekly modules. You also have a virtual child and studio assignments, which aren't hard to do. Attendance isn't required but you would be doing yourself a huge favor if you go.
The layout of this course is weird. You have to watch all the lectures before coming to class. Attendance is not mandatory but he gives bonus opportunities in class. He is a nice guy and responds to emails fairly quickly, but his grading is weird. He emails grades instead of putting them on blackboard, so you don't know your grade.
Dr. Parker is not bad but his lectures are odd. You have to watch the lecture videos before coming to class. About 4 videos every week and all are an hour long. Class isn't mandatory but you get extra credit for going. Lessons are interesting, but the tests are absolutely impossible. Beware of essays every week for homework, but are graded easily.
He's a nice guy and cares about his students/ success but wow was this class a lot of work. There are usually 3-5 lectures to watch outside of class for each exam that are 40 minutes to an hour long each. Long writing assignments when not doing virtual child, but aren't hard. You also pretty much have to come to class in order to get extra credit.
Dr. Parker is my fav professor on this campus. This is my second class with him and I was so excited. The material he teaches is great and you learn so much but what makes him a stand out is how much he cares about his students. If you put in effort, he will give you massive opportunities for extensions and full credit. Top tier professor.
BEST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD AT ALABAMA!! Purposely goes out of his way to take care of students. Once I had him I figured out what classes he taught and took them! He has a passion for the youth and has been my most influential teacher.
Dr. Parker was amazing. He truly care's about each and every one of his students. He is AMAZING. assignments are easy and quick. Pay attention in lecture. Attend the Review Zooms they are so helpful. 10/10 wish I could have him again.
He is one of the best professors I have had at this school. In the beginning I really struggled with his exams but he makes a VIP session where you can get invited to and he does zooms. In this he allows you to ask questions and might even tell you things to know on the exam. In class he gives extra credit so it is good to go!
Such a pleasure having him. He gives many extra credit opportunities if u do go to class & had a couple of extra credit assignments throughout the semester which were optional. Extra credit alone bumped up my grade a lot. Tests are online & not too hard. I didn't study a lot & still did decent. He seems to really care about his students doing well.
I have now taken 2 of Dr. Parker's classes with no regrets. The work you put in is the grade you will receive. Dr. Parker is very understanding, and flexible when need be and I believe he really cares about his student's success. He does make you write a lot but if that is good with you then I would strongly recommend taking any class he teaches.
He is kind, but his teaching style is over-the-top. He doesn't believe in grades and instead emails you "Estimated Final Percentage Data". He says not to pause the lecture videos to take notes, but that's impossible. Be prepared to spend a LOT of time watching the videos. Attend class for extra credit. It's not hard to succeed, just annoying.
Dr. Parker is such an incredible professor. This course has definitely been one of my favorites, and not one lecture was boring. He cares a lot about his students and is willing to be flexible when it comes to deadlines.
Dr Parker is very knowledgable on developmental psychology and teaches it well, however his exams are kinda challenging. Going to his review session are CRITICAL to doing well on his exams, and you can only do that if you watch the modules he posts outside of class, which is very time consuming. It's a good class and informative, just frustrating.
Dr. Parker is a super cool guy and a pretty good teacher, I just was not a big fan of the way his tests and such were set up. Difficult tests, weird grading method, very lecture heavy, lots of opportunity to do well.
Very engaging professor and fun class
Dr. Parker is amazing! You get so much extra credit for going to class which will heavily help your final grade! You have to watch mini lectures outside of class that are helpful to understanding the lectures. He gives VIP review sessions for completing work on time which goes over key points on the test. Highly recommend!
The class is interesting and Parker is caring/kind and an interesting lecturer. There is a lot of outside of the classroom work that can be time-consuming and he does not use blackboard grades which can be frustrating. He sends it to you via email. Recommend watching the modules before class, going to class. & test take a little getting used to
One of my favorite professors at UA, such a funny witty dude
Great guy, really nice but this class is the definition of busy work. 1 test a week that was pretty much 15 pages worth and another paper on top of it. I basically had no free time, he acts like this is your only class and will lecture from the first second to sometimes 5 minutes over the class. Besides that, really nice guy.
Dr Parker is a fantastic professor. He takes time with his students and truly wants them to succeed. He is not strict on deadlines and will work with you on late work. There is a lot of writing within the class, but he is not a very tough grader, and he gives suitable corrections. I would take him again if I could!
Parker is the absolute best! Class was so much fun, and he made the content so engaging and fascinating. There are a lot of tests, and you have to listen to "modules" outside of class (instead of a textbook). He is such a funny guy - would definitely recommend.
Parker is such a great teacher, he truly knows so much and cares so much. Attendance isn't mandatory but he gives out extra credit almost every class period. He does not do blackboard grades which can be frustrating at times, but he does send out a detailed report after each test of your grade. you also have to watch modules before class. love him!
Awesome guy. Attendance not mandatory but you get extra credit for going. At first it feels like a lot of work outside of class, but it's not too bad if you stay on top of it. You have to watch module videos before class but you can just listen to them instead of watching. Go to class, the extra credit adds up to be more than a test grade.
Dr. Parker is eccentric but there's a reason he's so highly respected in his field. 491 was a bunch of writing assignments, no hard due dates though and they aren't too terrible. It's definitely a lot of work to put in but that's expected for a senior seminar. the only thing is that missing one class knocks your attendance, but not too bad.
I really enjoy Dr. Parker, however, I do not love this class. I think the material is interesting but there is So. Much. Work. outside of class. Tests are hard and not just term-definition matching. It takes some getting used to. He is a good and fun professor, but pretty hard class. Also, go to class for EC!
At the beginning was all about getting you an A in the class but that was not the case. If you are not able to attend the VIP sessions you will not do good in this class. He does not respond to email and is hard to get in touch with. You will spend a lot of time doing busy work for this class.
Dr. Parker is a great professor, and he is very entertaining. He puts effort into his lessons, assignments, modules. However, he is not the professor you want to take if you are Type A (organized). He does not used blackboard grades, you don't know what grade you will get, information is scattered, his emails are hard to dissect. I am stressed.
No class on exam dates - they are online with lockdown browser. exams are SO hard and I never passed one. somehow i am still passing the class i think. assignment every week, sometimes 2. he recommends not taking notes but i had to or else id fail the tests even worse. great professor tho, loved class and lots of extra credit which saved me!!!
10/10 you can really tell he loves teaching with all the hard work he put into his class. Lectures are fun and if you send in pictures at the beginning of the year, he will put them into his slides and modules (videos). It is impossible to get less than an A in his class if you go to class and do the VIP study sessions. SO MUCH EXTRA CREDIT.
I hate that I ever took this class.
Amazing professor. His style of teaching is different but I feel that it is must more enjoyable to learn. He offers lots of extra credit and is very accommodating.
Overall, I really enjoyed Dr. Parker and his passion for his material. His tests tend to be odd...rather than test on the material, he tends to test on his general opinions and how he thinks about the question. For me, it feels like I'm getting tested on reading his mind rather than the material itself. He does give out lots of extra credit though.
He is a very odd guy. His tests do not really relate to the material at all. There are a lot of opportunities for extra credit, but those are mostly random too, such as two people in the class compete for half the class to get extra credit. Going to class is optional, but matters for the extra credit (which you need to get an A).
You have to watch videos, show up to class and hear more about the videos. A lot of extra credit given. I would always be confused as to what my grade was because he would send out emails every week but they did not make sense. Then he has VIP sessions for attending class and watching the modules on time. This class was a bit overstimulating.
Anyone claiming that Dr. Parker's exams didn't relate to the lecture content has no ability to think critically or apply content outside of rote memorization. This class is pretty high-effort, but it was one of my most rewarding PY classes at UA and Dr. Parker is a fantastic professor who obviously greatly cares about his students' success.
