Easy 3 assignments, 2 midterms, and a final. Jeffrey has awesome powerpoints notes, and even records and posts his lectures on eClass which is so kind. The exams are tricky, and the material is boring though.
A great prof! The 3 assignments in this class are extremely easy, and the two midterms and final were easy as well - I largely ignored this class. The material is repetitive and dull, but it helped sleep train my 2-yr old! You don't need to attend class as he posts lecture slides and voice recordings online, and the textbook is comprehensive.
Great prof! I took it as a night class and he rarely took the full 3 hour time slot. He posts all his powerpoint slides online, and additionally adds the voice commentary from his lectures. Two non-cumulative midterms, a cumulative final (ALL MC), and 3 super easy assignments that require next to no effort. Textbook is great- definitely recommend
His teaching method is really boring even though the content is interesting. Textbook reading is mandatory and there are questions on the exam from the text. He uploads his recording online so attendance is not mandatory. It was a night class and he usually finished the class early. His exams and assignments are quite easy.
Only thing Ill give him is that he helps outside of class such as replying to questions over email. Other than that, him and his ridiculous TA has no sense of fairness when it comes to marking assignments. Hes a total jerk with no respect for his students. Study HARD for exams because he asks very tricky questions. Or just avoid him at all costs.
Everything you want in a prof- great lecture slides, straightforward exams, well-organized, all the things. He managed to make what could have been a really boring class quite interesting. He recorded the audio of all his lectures and posted it on Eclass, so you didn't have to go to the lecture. 10/10 would recommend.
This was an amazing class! Very interesting. Dr. Pisklak posts slides and audio recording of lectures, so you don't have to worry about class. There are 3 really easy assignments, and then 3 tests that are also easy if you keep up with your reading and understand application of the concepts. Would recommend!
He only talks about pigeons and rats as examples in class but on exams the examples are all things never before discussed. You 100% need to read the textbook to pass, and even then the exams are full of trick questions. 100% wouldn't recommend this prof. he's also unorganized and always correcting that he just said.
His tests are not very well put together. There's many questions he has to omit. If you are a science student used to getting A's don't take this class! Many questions involve guessing. I Also finished the class with 89.9 and he refused to round it up to 90.
just a bad professor all around
The best psychology professor I ever met. He is very passionate in behavior modification, it feels like he's done his PhD in the subject, or like he's gonna be the next revolutionary. Caring to the level that he uploads an audio recording of his lectures in eclass! Sincere, caring, passionate, A young man well deserving for the title of professor!
Horrible instructor. Teaches one thing and tests on the other. His assignments make no sense and his instructions are very unclear. Him and his TA have no respect for their students whatsoever. Students are better off reading the whole textbook, and skip every class and only come for the exams. Please don't take the class with this guy.
He's not really a good lecturer, but the course his pretty easy. There's an assignment worth 15% that's super easy and the two midterms are manageable as well. Classes are long and boring, but he posts recordings of his lectures on eclass so you don't actually have to go if you don't want. The textbook is easy to read and pretty helpful.
Doesn't provide the most clear feedback but grades fairly. He posts the audio recordings of lectures which is really helpful, wouldn't recommend going to class. A lot of people might say he's rude but I think he just tells it how it is (won't round your grade up EVER, if that's what you earned then that's what you get).
Lecture was somewhat dry - he could improve on his explanations and descriptions of concepts and experiments. Class marks based on 3 assignments (very easy), midterm, and final. I found tests extremely easy, especially if you go through the practice questions after each chapter/end of textbook. Overall, applicable and super easy.
Personally I attended lectures but it wasn't necessary as he records them all and posts them online. The midterms and finals are easy enough if you read the textbook and know the terminology. Reading the textbook is a must as he takes some of the test questions directly from the practice questions. Overall great prof
Studying from the textbook will be more helpful than going to class but the assignments are easy and his exams are pretty fair. The lectures are very dry and I think he talked about cognitive psych being non-scientific at least once per lecture? I just took this class because it seemed interesting but I honestly lost some interest after...
BY FAR THE WORST PROF I HAVE EVER HAD!!! I will never take another class with this prof, his lectures are dry and the textbook is a better teacher then he'll ever be. If you can find the same class with a different prof. I highly recommend it. Mr. Pisklak does not care about any of his students.
Class attendance was very low this term, had to add an additional grade rubric to get students interested in coming to class. Nice guy but dry lecture and course. He gave us one break for a 3 hour class. Tasks were very do-able, tests were 50/50 class n book. Lost interest in this class real quick. Wish I got another prof.
Had low expectations for a night class, prof exceeded them. Tests are extremely fair with no nasty surprises. Use the textbook quizzes. His explanations might be too advanced when I asked him questions, got confused a bit. He is def a behaviourist and will trash cognitive psych. Attendance bonus wasn't fully awarded, despite attending every class.
The worst professor I had in my first year. Extremely monotone in class, half the lecture didn't show up and those that did were sleeping. Doesn't care about his students, I asked him for help and he told me to GOOGLE IT. Avoid at all costs, unless you're willing to teach yourself. The only positive is that he voice records his lectures.
This man loves pigeons, every single example will involve pigeons. Guaranteed. Told students in the bottom 25% after the midterm to consider dropping, even though the class isn't curved. textbook is great, but he tends to cover different topics in class. He will put you to sleep, you can use the recorded lectures as a bedtime story.
I found this prof very arrogant and sometimes rude. He treats students like they should be psychology experts even though it is a first year course. One of the assignments required 2 readings that made no sense to someone, like myself, has no psychology background and am not studying psychology. He makes this class way harder than it has to be.
He was an okay prof, he has very good communication but his lectures get very boring as he doesn't really try to engage the class. At times he can be a little comedic but nothing crazy. Also, he talks about pigeons A LOT so just warning you if you take his class you will know about the pigeon.
He is a decent prof. He needs to work on his presentation skills. He is good at explaining but work on his speaking speed. He is a little bit arrogant. It seems like he thinks highly of himself and can come of as rude but deep down I think he's a nice guy. Just needs to work on he presents the course material and how he presents himself.
The class is simple, most of it is text book. Theres 25 chapters, but theyre short and sweet. The tests are a no brainer, no tricks. Before Covid, he would post his lecture audio online. Honestly, hes kind of sassy, not a people person. If youre a pigeon, you might peak his interest. Just do your work, its easy.
His lectures were often dry with a lot of drawn-out explanations, informative but boring. If you showed up to every class then you were fine, but he got really sassy in emails to the class about poor attendance. If passive-aggressive emails upset you then maybe steer clear.
Not a bad prof, but he tends to stretch explanations out longer in his night class. The assignments are super easy, and the attendance bonus of +5% to your total grade make this a solid GPA booster. Make sure to skim the textbook quizzes before each exam. Overall, I found it much easier than Psyco 104.
Average lecturer. As long as you take notes for the duration of the class, it's not too hard to stay focused. Assignments/tests are straightforward. Both midterms and the final are all multiple choice. If you read the textbook and do the quizzes for each chapter, it's not hard to get a good grade. Expect to hear lots about pigeons.
He doesn't care about his students and he did not discuss what the midterms were going to be until someone asked. The 2 assignments were a waste of time - a coding assignment and a paper. For an easy first year class, he made it difficult. If you want a layed back class, I would find a different prof. Only good thing - he posts his lectures online.
Most of the information we needed to know could be read off the slides, but lectures helped to clarify things and understand vocab (which is essential if you want to do good on the midterms+exams). Everything was posted, but if you received all the attendance bonus, you got 5% added to your mark. Two extra (easy) assignments too
Pretty easy class. Everything you need is online-- he posts lectures and notes. There was a 5% bonus grade for showing up. Tests were very fair, all MC. I found the textbook mostly unnecessary but it's easy to read. Answered emails very quickly and thoroughly. The coding thing was annoying but he gave good instructions. Assignments were easy.
Jeffrey is a painfully slow talker which sucks, because you can tell that he's funny and passionate behind his long pauses. Assessments were easy to complete and reflective of your understanding of the material. TW for mild covert racism and eating disorder content in his lectures.
Took Psyco 104 in Spring term online, and I could only listen to his lecture videos on 1.75x speed. This man will purposefully avoid going deeper in to interesting aspects of the course, only to make time for a 3 hour long tutorial on coding with Python. The assignments were fair and the exams weren't too difficult. It was ok for an easy science cr
He records all of the lectures and posts them on eclass so attendance is not mandatory. He explains concepts well. The class consisted of two midterms (all multiple choice), two assignments (very easy), and the final exam (multiple choice).
It was taken as an online class because of the whole covid thing. Interesting prof, textbook was need but was not bad, easy assignments. Did better than the majority of my profs for the online semester.
The exams were pretty fair and open-book, even though we were only given a short amount of time to write. The class consisted of 2 midterms, 3 assignments, and a final. Assignments are easy marks as long as you read the instructions. I didn't read the textbook, just used his powerpoints and got all 80's/90's in the class. I liked the class.
This was a statistical and research methods class and he's probably the only professor who could've made something like that actually enjoyable. He gave weekly homework which was time-consuming sometimes but is so helpful and fast at replying. As long as you pay attention, you'll do well. Doesnt make exams that are targetted to trick you, very fair
Professor Pisklak was amazing. He has 2 midterms and a final which were all fair, if you knew material you could do well on them. . He also has 3 assignments which not only did I enjoy working on them I felt as they were grade boosters since you could email him and get feedback. He gave us a 5% bonus too which was amazing. Take his class!!
He was kinda rude about the whole class receiving a poor grade on the midterm and then VERY reluctantly offered a "redemption arc" as he called it. I thoroughly enjoyed the lectures, he made it interesting. He loves pigeons and makes it well known. Overall a decent prof. After receiving a 65 on the first mid, 72 on the second i still got a B+
Does not seem to care very much about his students. Textbook VERY helpful! I found the exams slightly difficult for the topic matter. Hated that the assignments were based around coding, although he pretty much gives you the codes. Overall, not amazing but not terrible.
Don't fall behind. It is very lecture heavy but there is a bonus if you use the textbook. I suggest watching his videos on 1.5X since he's very slow. Skim through his Python tutorials first. He has taken an hour to show how to code a graph only to show it another way in 4 mins. 2 midterms and final were standard, no trick questions.
Pisklak was one of the best professors I've had at UofA. He's very understanding of your personal situations, and his lectures were entertaining and weren't boring to sit through. He also had many bonus marks available, and his exams were fairly easy. As long as you read the notes, do the practice quizzes, and keep up you'll get a good mark.
One of the hardest courses i've ever taken. Long lectures with weekly assignments that took forever to complete. Jeff was accessible and answered student's questions as soon as he could and also gave bonus marks! the course is helpful if you want to pursue research in the future but i don't recommend taking it just for fun.
His assignments were very easy with coding that he shows you. He is an extremely slow lecturer as well. The midterms were fair but don't leave it until the last minute to study since there are approximately 10 chapters per exam. Overall, not a bad prof.
Talks slow, boring. Usually marks easily but is very rude in his feedback. I don't feel he cares about his students.
He seems like a nice guy but he gives out too much work each week, the typical week we are assigned about 3-4 hours a week, speaking with others who have taken this class with other professors their workload was at least half, labs where weird (only PSYCO 104 professor to make us code for labs). He also talks slow, which was a bit anoying too.
The worst professor I have ever had. Barely ever taught and when he did it was some useless information that only he seemed to understand. Definitely got bullied as a kid as he loves to be a jerk and pick on students. Don't take any classes with him.
He actually taught the course online. Like actually put in effort into remote instruction. Amazing.
Reading these other comments I am surprised by how many students did not like him this semester. He is hilarious and quirky in a good way. He does speak slow in his lectures, but I sped them up and it was just like normal. The work was very minimal and easy. I would highly recommend this prof and hope to take another class with him.
Dr. Pisklak is an amazing professor. He teaches the material really well and easily to access outside of class whether that be via email or a quick forum post on the eClass page. He gives several opportunities for bonus marks via participation quizzes and extra work you do in assignments. All of his exams and assignments are very clear and fair.
Dr. Pisklak is the best prof ever. 100% if he is an option choose him. I took PSYCH 104 as an elective and with Pisklak it was very easy and enjoyable. He gave up to an additional 5% to your grade for doing bonus quizzes. Very understanding of the circumstances of the pandemic and made online learning enjoyable.
Amazing prof! He is smart and passionate about what he teaches. Tests were extremely fair, and the assignments were all easy 100s. Bonus marks were available as well. He is very relatable too. If you can take his class, take it!
in his videos, he seems nice but his projects and his grading is dumb. Only professor to make us code and had taken off 10 for misspelling one word on our essay. exams are fine if you study. if you take his class make sure you put in the effort because you are graded by 5 projects and assignments
Pisklak is hilarious and makes lectures fun & interesting with lots of photos, videos, memes, jokes. He is a spicy man for lack of a better word (in the best way). He gives many opportunities to boost grades (optional quizzes for bonus marks, research participation, small easy assignments). He really just wants to see you are putting effort in.
He was one of the best profs I had this semester. He gave plenty of opportunities for you to boost your mark with bonus quizzes, easy assignments, and fairly straightforward tests. He's also hilarious and makes jokes with you. His lectures can get a bit boring but I've had worse. Hands-down one of my favourite profs and class.
Such a funny, quirky prof. He likes birds. Had real class engagement on the forums with memes and even a class Spotify playlist. Gives up to 5% bonus for doing easy 1-3 question MC each lecture to encourage you to watch them. Assignments were easy, the coding some complain about was free marks as he gave step by step instructions in a lecture.
Amazing prof
Awesome prof! His expectations for assignments are very clear, even stating the project's purpose (e.g., coding project). You can earn up to 5% bonus marks, simply for completing his quizzes; these short quizzes are to keep you on track while watching the pre-recorded lectures. Lastly, he is interactive with students, quite funny too.
Jeff was probably my favourite prof this year. He's hilarious and makes jokes in lectures, but his humour isn't for everyone. He gives lots of opportunity to boost grades, and his assignments were pretty easy. He gave our class a great sense of community and he has a great sense of humour. Our class had a meme forum and a shared Spotify playlist!
He was such a great professor to have for this class. You can tell he was passionate when he's describing the lecture content in the videos. He provides many examples that aid in your understanding of the content. The textbook readings were mandatory in this class because he would test on textbook material that wasn't in the lecture videos.
Hands down the best professor I had since online learning. He posted lectures when his in class lectures were supposed to occur, and gave so much time to work on assignments and the paper. Very funny guy, I wish I would have gotten the opportunity to learn from him in person. He makes the course material interesting and easy to understand.
Jeffrey is a great prof for online classes. His jokes and pigeon facts kept me paying attention during the recorded lectures. The exams were open-book and fairly easy. I also really enjoyed the assignment. Personally I used the textbook but you could probably get by without it.
Good prof, quirky guy who can be funny, only assigned two assignments which were easy A's, they had clear instructions & although they took some time did not require alot of brain power, the toughest part was the memorization for finals and midterms, alot of material
I didn't even feel like it was a psychology class half the time. He didn't seem very interested in the material he was teaching, and the exams were unexpectedly difficult. Also makes the class do a coding assignment in Python.
Honestly, I took this class because I heard he was a decent prof and needed a last minute elective. I'm in my third year and have been in much harder classes, although this psych class was brutal. The two assignments took so much time, and the midterms are heavy with a cumulative final?? He was snarky and rude, find another prof for the class..
Barely anything you learn in class can be used for the assignments you need to complete. He puts timers that move toward the deadlines of assignments and the start of a test, which is really stressful. It's a lot of memorization and you may have to learn things outside of his course if you have an evening class because he doesn't cover everything.
Dreaded this class the whole term, such a boring professor who's ego is out the roof. WIll pause videos to correct the information in a condescending way. I fell asleep nearly every lecture, very boring. Take any other prof, or class....
I thought pisklak was a great professor his assignments and tests were extremely fair and he made sure to very clearly lay out what was expected. If you pay attention and study you should be just fine. There is a lot of content so if you think it will be an easy option course I would choose something else. But great class overall
Dr Pisklak, is a good prof he demonstrates accurate understanding of the course to the class. But, beware assignment 2 is a bit harsh, because it's based on an essay on two books. As first year student at the UofA Dr Pisklak really made this course fun! Take him and study hard!
Prof Pisklak is a great guy, his class is very straightforward, and he responds to emails quickly. He gave more than 5% in bonus marks which were really great to boost averages. Tests are fair and were open book, many of the questions came straight from the textbook. The python assignments were also fair. Would for sure have him as a prof again!
I joined the class late and he was easily accessible. Easy overall class, midterms are straightforward and not difficult. The final was a bit more challenging but Im sure if you studied it wasnt that bad. the professor recorded his lectures and left them up for a week after which was a good incentive to rematch the ASAP. Easy elective to take
Had a random coding assignment in Python and an essay, both of which were time-consuming but not extremely difficult. Took lecture videos and slides away a week after each was uploaded which was annoying, but the course was enjoyable overall. Prof looked bored most of the time and always made bad jokes. The final was easier than the midterms.
Psyco413 is no cake walk. But if I didn't take it with Dr. P then I would have been screwed, and I ended up with a good grade (Even though I suck at math). He has a great teaching style and is very clear and concise, and a very reasonable human if you have any problems. He listens to students and cares, he is passionate and loves teaching!
His lectures are thoroughly enjoyable, and I looked forward every week to attending. This class alone made me far more interested in taking more courses in Psychology. He did give a coding assignment in python, though slightly unexpected, made sense and gave very easy marks. Overall, I'd enthusiastically recommend him to anyone.
Has prerecorded lectures but only has them up for a week so ur forced to get them done which is fine i guess but they are so long. The powerpoint will only have like 40 slides but the video will be two hours long because he just talks and talks about things he could have summarized on the slides for us. It gets boring and time consuming.
I took this class in Winter 2021, not 2022, but it was the easiest class I've done. Open book exams, very clear assignments, lecture notes had all necessary information, bonus marks if you didn't procrastinate. Has a dry sense of humour but I didn't mind. I'd def take him again, don't really get the complaints. Just put in the work and you're A-Ok
He focuses more on making sure that students have a hard, rather than an enjoyable, time in his class. In no world is it beneficial, or necessary, to restrict course material after a week. As someone who DOES in fact watch the lectures on time, I can assure you that not having the ability to go back and review come exam time is ridiculous.
His lectures are very dry, with a lot of rambling which makes a lot of key points very difficult to follow. Not to mention the few times Dr. Pisklak does make jokes, they are often sexual inuendos. you are also required to learn a programming language called Python for this course, which most other professors do not require.
His lectures are very clear to follow, though he talks slow and could trim fat from lectures. Bonus 2% for attendance. You don’t need to learn programming, he literally shows you exactly what to type into the computer. Not overly accommodating, but just keep up like you would with any other class. On pace for an A, simpler than other psychs.
Had an truly awful time.
I've taken all 200-level psych classes, this one took the least effort by far. I think people give him negative reviews because this class was not as memorization based as other psych classes. Lectures were clear, understanding the concepts(which were not hard) is key. The assignments were grade boosters. He gave a practice test before each exam
Prof was ok but his teaching style is not it. Restricts lecture material after a week with no flexibility, even though it was an online class to start. Was given the option to stay online when moved back to in person but states "I should've made lecture slides accessible only to those who come to in person classes". Ridiculous.
Recorded lectures were restricted to students who attended class and were available for a week, which I found helped to eliminate procrastination. Textbook chapters are dry but helpful as Dr. Pisklak often focuses on lab research applications which can be confusing. Exams are fairly simple, not many trick questions. Prof is a solid choice.
This course was offered as a three hour night class and I throughly enjoyed it. His humour made the class go by quick. Has slides accessible for a week (to prevent putting studying off) which I think was a good thing to teach first year students a lesson. Had to complete a python coding assignment??? -but was fairly simple/easy grade booster.
I took this prof for psych 104 and had the worst time ever. he lectures in a very boring way, and can be super condescending if he is confronted by something he doesn't like/understand. Restricted material so that is was only available for a week and was not very accommodating. another 282 class opened up so I dropped his and moved. AVOID.
Super interesting class -Tons of PIGEON examples- (there's a fair bit of work to do) but totally achievable. It's a pretty fun class to take with him. Some ppl complained about having to "learn" python, but he just gives step-by-step instructions to follow, so nothing to be afraid of!
I'm not sure why everyone thinks he's a hard prof but he's actually one of the best professors I have had at the uofa. Im in my last sem and I wish I had more classes with him. He's great, fair and has 2 really easy assignments that can help your grade.
Hands down one of my favourite psych profs I've had. It was clear he actually cared about his students and was passionate about what he taught.
a very dry lecturer. felt like falling sleep in his class. drags things on. txtbk useful. uses pigeons/rats as examples which is hard to relate and understand. if u can't understand sumthing he'll go over it again with diff examples. whole password thing is annoying. both assignments r great grade boosters. seems nice and caring towards students.
This Professor is very inflexible and cannot accommodate reasonable requests that come from students. Not even for students WITH accommodations. Do not take his class
I would not recommend taking any classes with him. His grade scale is incredibly high, he won't round up marks regardless of being 0.5% away from the next letter grade. I didn't get the feeling he cared about the success of his students and cared more about sounding right.
Really enjoyed the class! You could tell Dr. Pisklak was very knowledgeable and very passionate about the subject. There were 2 python assignments which were great grade boosters and he provided in-depth videos on how to complete everything, so it's not as daunting as you'd expect. The exams and quizzes were all very straightforward.
Don't listen to the bad reviews. Go to class and you'll see he cares deeply for students success and works hard to make sure everyone understands the content. Bad reviews just complain about having to go to class to get a password for the recording (you should go anyhow considering you're paying to be here!) Genuinely one of the best professors.
The only reason he tells us to come to class if we want to receive access to videos is for our success. A very caring prof who just wants his students to succeed. The python assignments were easy, he literally tells you everything you need to do, just literally follow the instructions and you got an easy 30%. Class ended early, material was simple
Great caring prof, he cares about students being successful and instilling habits that will make them succeed. Best way to succeed, attend class, make flashcards ON THE LECTURE SLIDES and then just copy and paste the questions from his quizzes to find pre-made application quizlet questions. Anyone who gets a bad mark should blame themselves not him
Great professor! He went above and beyond what I expected with profs; he cares that you do well in his class and replied to my email on a WEEKEND to help with my python code. His exams are fair if you study, you should do well. He is knowledgeable, helpful and extremely fair. He is organized, passionate and funny. One of my favourite profs!
First month of classes is weighted super heavily on stats(a quiz and project). The stats requirements are super in depth and totally unnecessary for this course. I've had friends take this course from other profs with no coverage on stats. He's a hard marker, super serious, and this class is anything but fun. I definitely recommend any other prof.
I feel that he forgets the fact that PSYCH 104 is a light/intro course to psychology. He assigns a mandatory statistics quiz as well as two assignments. The first is based on the use of statistics and python (python???), while the second assignment is an entire research paper. Not to mention the lab research participation as well. Just excessive.
While his lectures aren't the best, I think at times they get boring and I want to fall asleep, I think he is a good prof. He makes himself available after class times if you book an appointment and the assignments he gives us takes the burden off our grades being on based on the midterms and finals. The python assignment is straight forward!
Dr. Pisklak is easily accessible outside of class and is quick to respond to email. For a 200 level psych class exams are tough, definitely study the textbook and do the questions! 2 straightforward assignments and easy textbook quizzes! Beware of the exams though hard to get over a 75 even with days of studying !
Just never choose this prof. An extremely detailed exam and a tough marker as well.
Pretty entertaining lectures, tries to make jokes, however he assigned two assignments as well as a statistics quiz. 1st assignment required us to learn python??? not too sure the relevance to the course but he did post tutorials and dedicated class time to it, 2nd was an essay. Tests were reasonable, based on memorization (not application).
Jeffrey was an okay professor and the coding assignment, midterms, and final were quite easy however, I hated the part where he made us watch the 1982 version of Blade Runner and write an essay on it. So random and lots of work. But overall, he's an interesting guy who reads off a script for every lecture and has a boring and neutral tone of voice.
Stats assignment is basic, he explains it in class. The python assignment he makes a step-by-step tutorial, literally the easiest grade I've ever gotten. The movie was kinda random and the content of it might not be suited for everyone. The midterms and final is just what's on his slides. It's a science class so there's a lot of memorization.
Assignments are easy marks, midterm and final was heavy but it is a science class. I would suggest going to class/watching recordings and not just reading off slides because he mentions stuff that are hints for exams. Don't freak out over python or the essay. Clear instructions and the essay doesn't take that much brain power.
Took class during the spring semester. The class was well laid out with 6 weekly homework assignments and 1 short term assignment. Midterm and final exams were fair, similar to homework, and open for 24 hours. Asynchronous lectures were posted at the start of the term, allowing you to work at your own pace. Prompt email responses and very nice.
Probably the best prof you will ever have. The course material is super useful and applicable. I highly recommend taking this class if u can!
AVOID THIS PROF exams are "open book" but average for the first midterm for a 200 level class was in the 60's. His exams are which is correct or incorrect statement by the time you are done reading the question the time is over. He makes you do this horrible coding assignment. If I wanted to do coding I would have taken a comp sci class.
his exams are soooo hard even after days of studying and doing all the work its hard to achieve a 75 and above. just save yourself the trouble and take a diff class
He assigns a 20% midterm the day you get back from the reading week...sucks having to study every day throughout your scheduled break. Can you even call it a break then? Exams are fair but wordy, beware of textbook questions, they can be sneaky good as they count as bonus marks.
Good prof. Very intelligent. Learned lots. Wish he taught more of my classes. Easy A if u listen to his lectures tbh. Exams r straightforward and not difficult as long as u study. Tells you exactly what is expected for exams and assignments. Good first prof for my first semester of my first year of undergrad. Go Jeff!
Assigns a midterm right after reading week, doesn't give clear examples for the projects you have to do, essay topic felt irrelevant compared to class material, and he has a huge ego.
He is a pretty funny professor and pulls out lots of jokes during class related to content. With that being said, there is a stats quiz, a coding assignment, and an essay assignment which don't really relate to content that is being taught. Tests aren't too difficult but very specific.
Very heavy workload for an online course. Exams based on application on material rather than actual material covered. This made studying quite difficult as course material convered concepts rather than examples of applications.
Dr. Pisklak is a very knowledgeable and funny professor. Midterms are easy, the people saying they are hard didn't study properly (use the textbook too!) Coding, stats and essay assignments are easy and will help you in the long term. He gives clear criteria for what he expects. He is accessible outside of class and cares about his students a lot.
Jeffery is a super good prof, if you make it a point to revise regularly and use the textbook as a resource it is very easy to do well. His exams are exactly as he describes and if you study a good grade is easily obtainable. He drops hints about exam questions in lecture so make sure to pay attention. Overall a good prof who wants you to succeed!
Good prof overall, though his lectures were a bit dull at times. Don't be scared by the coding he makes you do, he gives a step by step tutorial and it is an easy A. Offers fairly easy bonus questions on tests which is nice.
Midterms were mostly based on the concepts from the textbook, and some were from the lectures. The questions were fair. The final was easier than the midterms in my opinion. The two Python assignments were practical applications which are one of the best aspects of the course. Pisklak is a great lecturer and willing to offer extra help.
Extremely kind, knowledgeable, responsive, and great humor. However, he LOVES tricky questions for exams, this reason alone I wont take him again.
I took his online psych 282 course and he made it very enjoyable. It had two midterms, two (grade boosting) assignments (which he provided in-depth tutorials for), a weekly short quiz, and our final. I would highly recommend!!
Funny guy and very fun course. I hear some things on the eclass forums about him having tricky questions but if you keep up with the weekly readings it should all be relatively easy. The course content itself was very enjoyable and applicable to real life and the assignments were grade boosters if completed. very light 200 level science psych.
this guy is so sexy take his class
His lectures are incredibly boring. He goes off topic quite often. His assignments (esp the 2nd) have nothing to do with the course material. Although the Python assignment was easy, it took him forever to get to the point in the videos. His second assignment was annoying and honestly unnecessary. He seems to forget that this is an intro course.
Overall good prof. He talks a lot which made us have to read textbook sections that were testable which was annoying. The 2 assignments honestly had nothing to do with psych, but were fairly easy. Stats quiz was definitely tricky but overall an easy, straightforward class. Nice guy too, a bit strange though lol
Dr pisklak was an awesome prof. More assignments than most 104 classes but they were super straightforward. he also gave bonus questions on exams for reading the extra material which was great! He is a funny guy and I would definitely take a class with him again!
If you watch the lectures it is a pretty easy course. The stats quiz you have to do kinda sucks, but besides that the course is really chill
If you're thinking about taking this as an elective DONT. For a simple intro psych class there was still multiple assignments a stats quiz and an online ethics course that takes up a lot of time. Besides the excessive work he makes you do compared to other 104 profs, he is a fair marker and does put lots of bonus questions on the exams!
Pislak is overall a solid prof. Provides resources, makes time for students, and his dry humour adds charm to his class! I find his expectations a bit laughable, (im not spending 8 hours a day on studying, lmao) and a bit egotistical. He referred to women as "females" at a few points which seems immature/unprofessional for someone in psychology.
had bonus questions on the midterms and the final. Was very clear about what would be tested on the midterms and final. The statistics quiz was not the best, but definitely could have been worse. Would take his class again.
Cool prof with bonus questions and funny moments
Solid prof. He provides youtube videos of his lecture recordings so that's a huge bonus points. Has some bonus questions on his exams as well.
Lecture vids on youtube so they were easy to follow along with and weekly textbook quizzes were due before the lectures so you knew the content going in. The coding assignment had a detailed tutorial along with it so the assignment was easy. Great prof and answers questions quickly but limited time for open book exams.
I cannot emphasize how much of a great professor Dr. Pisklak is. His humour motivates me to go to class, and his lectures are always engaging. Assignments have clear criteria, and the midterms/final do not have any tricky questions; just read the notes.
I absolutely loved this class! The lectures were so engaging and interesting! He provided us with a free online textbook. Reading the textbook was not required, but the bonus questions on the exams were from textbook material. Exams were straightforward and there were no trick questions. He also recorded the class so you could watch it later too.
He is very clear in his explanation and genuinely cares about your performance. Overall, highly recommeded professor if your looking for someone straightforward and gives easy explanations.
Highly recommend this professor if you want someone who is straightforward in his explanations and makes the course feel easy and interesting.
Dr.Pisklak is an amazing prof, his lecture slides are very well done + entertaining, hes hilarious, and he also recorded all his lectures and posted them. (Side note: because this is a basic psych course keep in mind that there are SO many YouTube videos and podcasts on this course which is also super helpful around midterms and finals)
Dr Pisklak was a great prof! Was very clear with what needed to be done in order to succeed in the course. Generally seemed like a nice guy. Clearly very knowledgeable. Lots of videos in his slideshows as well, although if you're not someone who does well with just lectures, he may not be the prof for you.
Great prof for PSYCH 104. There is a stats quiz, but he gives you practice questions with WORKED SOLUTIONS that are pretty much exactly the same as the questions on the quiz LOOK AT THOSE!! There's an essay, but 60% of the rubric is based on whether or not you properly used APA formatting, so even if your content isn't that great, you will be fine.
Great professor. Lectures could be a bit dry for some, but he has a really good sense of humour. He's very patient when answering your questions, and always provides helpful resources. Python is required for one of the assignments, but the instructions are clear.
Overall a good prof. Brought timbits on the last day for the psych class and everything. There was some out-of-class reading from the textbook on concepts that weren't covered in class due to time constraints. He also recorded all of the lectures, which was really helpful when colds were going around.
Very funny. Mandatory use of online textbook due to time constraints. Records lectures and posts them immediately after. Exams are more to test understanding than memorization. Also includes bonus questions for a free grade boost. As long as you watch the lectures and read the textbook you'll be fine
Very straightforward but funny at the same time. Records all lectures so it's super easy to look back on past lectures when studying for midterm and final. Some textbook reading but it wasn't anything super complicated. W prof
Dr. Pisklak makes it easy to succeed. His assignments are very straightforward, tests are reasonable, notes are very comprehensive, lectures are recorded. He gave us candy at Halloween and Timbits at the last class. He assigned a few chapters of reading from a free textbook due to time constraints, but that's it. Attend classes and you'll do well.
Mr. Pisklak is awesome!!! His lectures are interactive and engaging, notes are detailed and tests are easy and have bonus questions on them. Brought candy and timbits for the class. Knowledgeable and has a good sense of humour. As far as assignments are concerned, there is a statistics quiz, essay, python assignment, and research ethics course.
I like that he gave several different examples for each topic to really help you understand. His lectures were easy to follow and interesting, overall great prof!
Detailed responses to my emails, funny lectures with the occasional edgy jokes.
Dr.Pisklak was a great prof. The stat quiz and assignment were a breeze, he basically spoon feeds you the answers. He cares about his students without babying them which I appreciated. The class itself was easy, there were no trick questions on tests. Made lots of jokes which made the lectures more interactive and personable. 100% recommend.
The course itself is very content-heavy with lots of memorization but just READ THE TEXTBOOK! Flashcards will be your best friend. Two assignments which were good grade boosters if you do the work. He just reads off of a script and doesnt answer your questions. not a horrible man but not the best. Grade doesn't rely on only tests too.
Not sure why it says he has a rating of 5.3. When calculated his rating should be 3.52
Didn't really enjoy his classes, would be bored every time I attended class so I would just go when there was an exam. On the first midterm there was an excerpt from Shakespeare, weird, difficult to answer the question. But overall the tests were easy. Enjoyed writing my research paper on AI though.
Was originally suppose to have this class with another prof. A textbook is recommended but I did not use it and did well. He always cracks jokes and answers all questions on the anonymous form! Only little complaint is that he reads for the most part directly of slides which is not my style of learning. Overall great!
I am not enjoying this class at all (crying emoji). This exams does not reflect what he teaches and has the most random stuff on the exams. You really need to apply your knowledge in 1 minute per question exams. Also he is so aggressive when he replies to forums and emails. I would just try to find another prof..
Dr. Pisklak was awesome! He is engaging in his lectures and always tries to set up his students for success on exams and assignments.
Horrible prof not understanding what's so ever about any issues, you can literally be dying and ask to do you midterm before you die and he would tell you no.
His midterms and finals reflect in-class content and are heavy on memorization! I used Anki to practice active recall, which saved me a lot of time. His assignments are generally easy. He gives clear structure and has videos that guide you through them. Of course, he is also quite funny!
Not recommend, he did scaled down all the grade at the need! I did his class last year><
Overall good class, exams were a little tough as they were one minute per question application questions with one or two calculation questions. There are a few assignments though so grade gets distributed over a couple things which is nice. Very doable just need to memorize quite a bit for exams.
This was by far one of my favourite classes to take, the lectures were online and asynchronous with Pisklak managing to make the 2-3 hour long lectures per week super interesting to watch. Assignments were fun and easy to follow. 10/10 professor, would 100% take this class again.
Cool Prof, There are 2 midterms and 2 assignments, one is a research paper and the other is a Python assignment but the Python one is not that hard so I would say if you don't even know how to code. His lectures are funny and he posts all his lectures online as well. The statistics Quiz he makes us do is THE WORST.
Easiest A ever... if you go to lecture and semi pay attention you should be fine. Pisklak is engaging, and he genuinely wants to see his students succeed. Assignments and exams are very easy. He is a funny guy, and makes class fun by putting on YouTube videos related to the content or letting us play games, win candy prizes etc.
Professor Pisklak makes the class fun with engaging lectures, YouTube videos, and candy prizes. The assignments are reasonable, and the exams focus on memorization. unstuck ai was a great study tool alongside the textbook.
He posts the lectures to YouTube which is good, but the classes are so boring and he doesn't put study guides or practice exams.
The pros being that he recorded all his lectures and posted them on Youtube, his assignments were very straight forward with clear instructions, and the lectures themselves were pretty entertaining. His cons were that he gave zero guidance for the two midterms and final by not posting any practice questions or exams, which made studying difficult.
Dr Pisklak is very straight to the point. I appreciate his style of teaching, he does not over-complicate terms or try to confuse you. I found that sometimes he gave a lack of instructions for assignments. However, he was fun in his lectures, handed out candy and was strict on assignment hand in time which was great for avoiding procrastination.
One of my favourite profs. His teaching style is engaging, he speaks eloquently and is funny. If you value the quality of information, he really knows his stuff and is insightful about various psychology topics. Hope I can find more of his classes to take. Assignments can be a bit of work with strict TAs. Overall, it was an interesting class.
he has pros like he Cares about his students, that was shown a lot in his office hours when asking for assistants. Really nice guy and funny However cons include Boring lectures, no practice exams, no little outline for assignments and syllabus was confusing. Overall Great but reviewing info everyday is key because he dumps alot of info each day.
Professor Pisklak's lectures were interesting and provided more context to the textbook that is required to read. Homework quizzes were of moderate difficulty, with 6 questions and 6 minutes. He was very caring to student concerns and tried his best to be accommodating. Assignments consisted of recording your own behaviour and was relatively easy.
Great class, but the course material was pretty tough. Tough course with lots of quizzes, assignments, and reading. You have to dedicate a lot of time to finishing the work. There was also some stats stuff which was not on the final as well as a coding assignment. The prof was nice, understanding, and funny though.
I loved him! He really cared about his students and accommodated everyone when there were technical difficulties with the first midterm. He uses both the textbook and online lectures. There are very small quizzes for each chapter but they're super easy. He is always accessible and explains everything really well. Also super funny!
He was really engaging, and I actually enjoyed going to lectures. He recorded all of the lectures so if you missed class it was really easy to catch up. The wasn't a lot of assignments, although there was a handful on Achieve that we had to do. A bunch were due all on the same day, so make sure you stay keep on top of them.
Excellent prof. very engaging and funny lecture. People complain about the stats homework, but he gives practice with worked-out solutions, and the homework questions are very similar with different numbers, so it is easy to grade. Overall, the assignments were easy and the tests were a bit harder but not unreasonable, just had some small details.
I really enjoyed this class. It's super straightforward. Before each test, he would provide practice tests that were basically identical to the real thing. As long as you practice those you'll do well. Also be sure to do the homework
jeffrey made stats bearable for me. very clear and digestible lectures (which are recorded) and lots of homework assignments with unlimited attempts (to practice the material and get an easy 100). he also uploaded a free pdf of the textbook on the class website. love this guy
Spent whole course teaching coding only for the test to not be on coding. Ran out of time while taking the tests and didn't finish. Good teaching generally but bad tests and very difficult hw. Hard to keep up and talks too fast.
Pisklak was kind of a morbid guy but he was funny and his lectures were interesting. Assignments and tests were fair. Frequently used videos or examples to support content. Recorded and posted lectures online after every class, which was a huge plus. Should be a light class if you put in the work, especially if you took BIO 20/30 in high school.
Great lectures. The assignments were time-consuming but easy overall. He adds lots of interesting things to his lectures, and it really helps with keeping your attention.
He was entertaining during lectures (which he posted online, bless) and made the info easier to digest. There were a couple of stats + coding projects that I wasn't too fond of, but they weren't as difficult as I worried. Exams were cumulative and sometimes way specific, but not the worst. He had some sick band tees, though.
Dr. Pisklak was kind of a weird guy but was really funny and definitely made lectures engaging with videos to support class content and relevant examples. Assignments were easy and tests were fair and not too bad if you study well. My only beef w the course is that a chunk of the course was "teach yourself".
This class is extremely heavy and difficult to keep up with, but was one of the most useful classes ever-highly recommend. He is an amazing prof and made dull material interesting and cares about students and provides plenty of free accessible resources and is always willing to help you out. He genuinely cares about your success post grad.
Pisklak definitely assigns more work compared to other professors. He makes you do a coding assignment too but it was fairly easy. He couldn't entirely cover some lectures so you have to do pages of reading in the textbook (content is testable). He was hilarious though.
Dr. Pisklak is a nice, chill prof. His lecture were fun but this course has lots of coding. The exams are open-book with 24hrs given to complete. There are coding assignments each week, which are simple but time consuming. He always responds to emails or enquiries through Discord or email promptly. Just reach out to him if you have any questions.
Funny chill guy who made stats incredibly easy if you stay on track. I personally think this course is better than STAT 151 for psych majors because it had relevant info that's directly applicable to psychology. Most content from 151 and 213 overlap but 213 doesn't have a probability module. You still have to use R, but it's not hard at all.
This class felt like a combo of general stats and comp sci. His recorded lectures, notes, and codes, were all available on Canvas. Exams are crazy easy if you do the unit quizzes and labs. 7 unit quizzes (10%), 3 labs (25%), midterm (30%), final (35%). Do the practice questions because they closely reflect the exams. Passing grade is 40%.
Class is a joke I bet this review will get 10 thumbs downs because Hes so insecure about his rmp rating he set up a bot to dislike negative reviews Oh class, we didn't have enough time to do this material, but instead of removing it because of badtime management, let's assign the 150 page textbook reading (mandatory reading, Tested) TEEHEESOQUIRKY
ummm once we watched a video that autoplayed about sublimely vibrating our pineal gland. then one time we exercised our ESP abilities for chocolate of course. He didn't pick me though I knew I would've made the room float. I guess he knew it was too risky. I went office hours once.
Tons of extra assignments compared to other sections. His tests are way harder than what I've heard about other sections. Avoid if possible, do not make the same mistake I did. This is a GPA dropper in a GPA boosting class, definitely not good if you care about GPA
He made doing well in the course very accessible. I found PSYCH213 hard but was able to do well due to the multiple assignments and chances to improve mark. A little difficult to follow during lectures and difficult tests but his recorded lectures helped a ton. I would take another class from him.
Good, chill professor with clear slides. Sometimes dives into details that aren't really necessary, but overall the class is manageable. Exams are pretty easy as long as you study!
For those who struggle with math, this course moves EXTREMELY FAST, likely due to Dr Pisklak's extreme savviness with R and statistics. While it starts off slow, it picks up fast, by mid-semester, things are moving at light speed. He's nice and approachable, but math strugglers beware.
Mandatory textbook readings, watch out. Tests are worded poorly and have much more difficult material than other profs.
Dr. Pisklak goes above and beyond by posting his lectures which is the BEST (plus he is super funny). The assignments are straightforward, there's a coding assignment which he literally posts step by step videos for and the other assignment is a short essay. You will definitely need to read the textbook, and if you do the exams will be easy.
