His class is not intimidating at all! He is funny and laid-back towards his students, yet he still is in control of the classroom. He grades you on how much you have improved over the semester, not if you are a great public speaker (not everyone is!).

He is very knowledgeble and good teacher. I recomend everybody to take his course. He is very helpfull and understanding. The best teacher I have ever had!!!

Teaches well, but you have to earn your grade, not an ez A class. Look elsewhere if you don't want to give a bunch of presentations and learn a lot of information.

Professor Smith was my favorite this fall semester. He made you feel very comfortable and made sure that you understood every lecture. He is an easy-going professor who you can talk to for help. He is also very hilarious which made the class really fun. His grading scale is really easy to follow because everything is weighed the same.

10 pts extra credit. 5 speeches. 1 scantron only midterm and 1 final. That's it. You would be able to face probably one of the biggest fears in life - public speaking. You do have to work for the speeches, but he'll do his best to make you feel good. One of the best classes that I'll remember for the rest of my life.

Best Speech teacher ever !! i to him over summer (2015) only did 5 speeches not to mention the first one was only 30 sec. a 3 min one, and two 5 min one idr the other ones but they were all under 5 min. Hes always so peppy and gives back speeches graded the day after you present. totally loved this teacher!!!

He was one of the best professors at GCC!!! We had 5 speeches total, one was 90 seconds, two 3 minute speeches and two 5 minute speeches.

This speech class was an excellent experience. Try to find topics that truly interests you, or find a social cause you are trying to gain focus on, or talk about a charity. You can practice your speeches until you're almost a Toastmaster. :) Enjoy this class!

I hate public speaking and had taken it with another teacher and dropped the class. He made me feel much more comfortable snd his lectures are real fun. He asks you to read the book since his two tests are based off of that. Otherwise loved the teacher.

Professor Smith is easy to approach because he is personable. His lectures were light and funny, not dense. He genuinely cares about your well being. You do need to buy the book which is about 40 bucks new to complete the online assignments. Speeches are very important. You need 3-4 speeches, midterm, and final. Would take again!

What truly determines an A grade is his midterm and final, its multiple choice and true/false. 50 questions or so. Easy if you have common sense. Watch out for trick questions is all. The speeches are enjoyable, dont take it so seriously up there, and coming from someone who gets massive anxiety from giving speeches, he made this class a cake walk.

Smith makes Speech 101 so easy. He understands that everyone is shy at frist when giving the first speech but he makes it fun. Its not lecture 100% of the time, he breaks the class down so it goes by fast. There are a lot of speeches, but its a speech class so. He does makes you do a speech outline but thats the only "bad" thing. A great professor.

Professor Smith acknowledges that Speech is a GE, yet provides great feedback for his students. He does not burden his students with unnecessary work making his class easy going yet informative. You will receive an A as long as you listen to his lectures and read the readings he assigns. Extra credit is also available.

Throughout the semester, he assigns like 6 speeches - some of them we have to write ourself and some we borrow from famous speakers. I took his speech 101 class and it was one my favorite classes I've ever taken. The lectures are easy to understand and he makes them fun and engaging. The speeches themselves aren't difficult. The longest speech I had was only five minutes long. If you're scared or nervous about public speaking take this class. He'll make it fun and enjoyable.

Professor Smith is the perfect professor for a 101 class. Patient and goes over all material extensively. If you want to pass this class you will. Tests are easy and just remember to prepare and practice your speeches at least 6 times before giving them and you'll pass that portion of the class as well. Winter 2021. Professor Smith gives amazing lectures and creates a very supportive atmosphere in the class. I usually have a lot of anxiety about public speaking but Professor Smith's methods and support help me overcome this problem. He has very clear requirements, which are very easy to follow and get good grades in the class.

(Spring 2021) Professor Smith is the best! I really enjoyed his lectures because they were engaging. Heads up, there are speeches that you need to present in front of the class. During Covid, I had to have my camera on in Conferzoom and present my speech. Make sure to present speech under or around time limit he assigns!! Discussions were v easy!!

Professor Smith is a great professor who is passionate about teaching. I took him the summer of 21' and though I didn't receive a good grade because of my own mistakes, I retook him the following spring semester and was able to raise my grade. He was very reasonable whenever it came to personal matters and I recommend him to pretty much anyone.

We had about two assignments per week which were discussion questions or speech outlines. He never required you to turn on your mic or camera unless you were presenting. He also lets you sit down while you give the speech! His exams were open notes, with 40-60 questions for a timed 2 hours. He was great, but check canvas daily for new assignments!!

Super easy class. Nice guy. It's a basic speech class. Just give a speech. Don't look at your notecards too much. Make eye contact with the screen. If you meet those requirements, you will get an A. He is accessible outside of class and friendly. No complaints.
