The man is fantastic!

all i have to say is wow, he is soo interesting, but his tests are hard. make sure you can memorize facts before taking his course, and also take good notes

Extremely funny. Makes class very interesting. Gives plenty of information to do good on exams.

He's funny, but don't expect to be challenged (unless you have a bad memory). His tests are strictly memorization and regurgitation of information, and this class in particular was disappointing, being more of a glorified sex ed class than a psych class.

Definitely the coolest professor I’ve ever had. He’s a funny guy, and his lectures were interesting. The tests were essay questions that were not really easy but not super difficult either.

He makes class interesting. Tests are clear and based off of notes and the text. However...he's a little too forward at times and offensive to students.

Good teacher, good class, but was difficult. I had to study a lot for the exams to get my A-. He is very intimidating, and I thought the rating about the insurance coverage was funny! He did seem to be in it for the money though, but again, still good.

I graduated in 1991. Stern is the only psych prof I remember. He's truly in a class by himself. I'm a dentist now and still remember his lectures!

He's phenomenal. I never missed a class and would play tapes of his lectures for my husband and sister. What more can I say?

I got a B+ from Stern and that was very fair. Essay exams. Lectures are filled with information and laughter. He really knows his stuff.

Awesome teacher...trust me, you'll understand the material. He TEACHES it, instead of reading it out of the text book. I had two of his classes...both were the funnest classes i've ever taken. He makes you laugh and can really keep your attention.

Classes are the best, he could not be more interesting as a lecturer. The tests are not very objective, really difficult and limiting. Hard to study for, but material is difficult as well for non psych majors. So you pysch majors enjoy him, for teachers like him are rare, I'm just glad i passed!

I had both of Stern's classes this semester, and though I did horrible, (because the test are too hard to study for) I would take him again in a heartbeat. I love his teaching style and his dry sense of humor...overall, though difficult I would love to accept his challenges again...

This is the best college course I've ever taken. I never missed his class... and I skip A LOT. If you pay attention (and it's really hard not to) and do the reading, you will get an A. Yes it's a bit of work, but there are only 3 tests, no paper, no final. Take this class!

STERN IS AN AMAZING TEACHER!!! HIS TESTS ARE HARD CONSIDEREING THERE ARE ONLY FIVE QUESTIONS THAT ARE FROM HIS LECTURES AND BOOK. I BARELY MISSED A CLASS. YOU WANT TO GO TO CLASS JUST TO LISTEN TO HIS LECTURES. HIS UNCONVENTIONAL STLYE REALLY GRABS YOU AND MAKES YOU REMEMBER THE MATERIAL!!!

Stern is a very funny and interesting teacher but be prepared to do the work, read, and come to class to get a good grade. He is totally worth it and one of the best teachers I have even had. Take him if you like a good challenge.

Very informative, one of the best neuroscience based classes around. Not to be taken lightly, you must study.

You can't really afford to skip or miss a class, I missed one day and it was a horrible day to miss, because his tests have 3 question from lecture and 2 from the text. However, Stern is probably the coolest teacher I've had. He is real funny and definatly worth taking the class

He's The Only Professor That I Actually Got Up In The Morning For! I Don't Think It's Possible To Find A Better Professor, Or A More Brilliant One! Both He And His Classes Are Fun, Interesting, And A Reason To Go To School!

Most fun I've ever had in a class. I think this is one of the only professors I had where I was totally "in tune" during the entire lecture. Definately worth taking.

His classes were always the most fun. The class wasn't easy, but it was ok because it was always interesting and I always learned a lot in all of his classes. His tests are hard, but completely fair. By far, one of the best profs I've ever had!

I love this guy like my dad dont atek it the wrong way, he is fun at his lectures and i enjoy his stories about his real lif eexperince with his patients but hos test are kindy hard though he is very nice and i recomnd him even thiugh im not geteting an A in this class but he is the best so take him ok.

I took human sexuality, physio pscyh, and animal behavior with him. He is THE BEST PROFESSOR AT UMD. Go to his lectures for two days, i guarantee you will want to stay. Exams are str8 forward, very easy if u just read over notes and skim the book. I wish he taught more classes so i can take him again. take him at least once before u graduate.

This professor is one of the best I have ever had. His lectures are full of energy and he really knows what he is talking about. You need to study for his tests but he is worth taking. He is so funny, knowledgable, and the added bonus is that he is HOT!

Human Sexuality, only C I ever got and TOTALLY worth it! He's Hilarious! Wouldn't miss a lecture. Must study, NOT an easy A. Lots of clinical science, but it can be done. There's a difference between fine and sexy, and this man is SEXY as hell! Totally Hot! Hint: Don't sit in the back of the class.

Prof. Stern is not a bad guy, he just has the balls to put things out there whether others like it or not. If you are as accomplished as he is then you have every right to be arrogant. He was extremely helpful when I approached him regarding an issue. Class is very interesting, and funny, but do study for the tests (he doesn't mess around with bs).

good prof. he was hilarious and explained everything clearly, altho he is kindof opinionated, 4 exam questions was memorization of the notes and 2 were from the book, the notes questions are easy, but for the books u really need to study, not an easy A, but not hard, u just have to be willing to put the time in, very nice prof., smart and good

Dr. Stern is a very good professor. Very clear, and teaches well. Must study for exams, all essay - only 2 tests. He speaks so frank that you will learn if you just go to class. Study the notes, and read all of the chapters. I will take this professor again. Class is challenging and rewarding.

i love stern! i was recommended to take this course by a handful of my friends. he is extremely entertaining. i love how blunt he is in class, it is hilarious! you will get an A if you read all the chapters and MEMORIZE your notes well enough that you can recite them without looking at your notebook. its seriously not hard. TAKE HIM.

I loved both of his classes, psyc 370 and 446. Same format for exams in both courses where the first three short answer questions are from his notes (anything from his notes, memorize!) and the last two are from the book (outline each chapter!). He will definately entertain you and shock you at the same time! You will retain a lot of the material!

crazy teacher! he gets on rants that are funny, class isn't always that clear, never know whats on his tests, better study everything to get a good grade. I'd take him again though

Easily the best Psychology professor at the school. I had him for both Psych 446/370. His exams follow a pattern, 3 lecture and 2 book questions. If you study you should be fine, he does not trick you. His lectures, are the best at UMD; you will either be interested the whole time or laughing at his stores and jokes. Plus he ends 30 minutes early.

Dr. Stern has been my favorite lecturer since I've been at UMD, however, his class has been the hardest for myself. Don't take his classes if you expect an easy grade. Tests are separated between lecture notes and hard reading from the book. Missing a lecture is extremely bad as most of what he tells you is integral to his exams.

I think he's fantastic. Lectures are high energy, funny and very informative. Believe it or not, I hate it when the hour is up. Completely unique experience

At first, you may say he is crazy or not interested. However, he is great! He loves what he teaches, and he is very interested in helping interesting students. One advice: when he says you don't need to be scare of his test, do not believe him. You should study a lot because his tests are hard.Good luck and have fun because his class is unique!

He is the most straight forward professor here and I love it. He is by far my most favorite teacher. He is a somewhat tough grader and a little rough around the edges but if you go and talk with him he is completely willing to help you out! Class consists of 3 tests - that's it, so you have to do good on all of them.

Stern is an awesome Prof. His tests are insanely hard, especially the first one. Take very good notes and memorize them, look over the chapter review at the end of each chapter, and read the boxes whenever they appear in the textbook and you should do fine on his tests. Also make sure you write your answers in bullet form he loves it.

Great class. Biology is not my favorite subject and although I didn't understand the subject much the class was still fun and interesting. Memorize your note and read the required chapters and you will do fine. only 2 tests, all essay.

i go to Ann Arbor during the year but live in Dearborn. I took both of Stern's classes this the summer because my friends said he was good. They're wrong, He's great! I learned sooo much and he made me laugh. I worked hard for my grades but he was fair. A must prof

In response to the comment below me: obviously, if you don't take notes, read the book, or attend class, you're going to do bad. period. that's regardless of what class you take. I think professor Stern is excellent! I love his classes!

he was great, his lectures were great too. However the tests are one sheet with one liners requesting definitions or the meaning of the word. He does not go into great detail but if you went to class there should be no problem. Read the book & notes! he's fair! His last semester in Winter 08! take him!

Be there for every class and read the book for an A. Tests are on his lecture and a couple from the book. 5 questions, 20 points each. 3 total exams. You must know his exact language from lecture. He is a tough grader. Best lecturer I've ever known though.

WONDERFUL teacher! I stayed after quite a bit just to talk to him because he is very knowledgeable and freakin hilarious. this is his last semester- im sad to see him go. he is a very difficult grader, but its easy to impress him - if you improve dramatically, you've basically scored an a. i got a 72, 74, and 92 on the 3 and got an A+ overall.

I took 2 of Stern's classes back to back...I probably shouldn't have...but enjoyed the classes nonetheless. One of the best profs i've ever had. Fantastic lecturer. I learned so much, so so much. Requires 3 exams, all essay. Must memorize, word for word his notes, plus lots of reading. But all ends up being a ton of info you'll remember and use.

Human Sexuality was awesome!He is a great professor! Great lecturer and if you don;t learna thinkg from him it's because you didn't go to class. Nonetheless, he's retured so if you never had him you crtainly missed out. He will be missed at the U of M -D- tests are hard and grade determined how well or bad you do on them. he loves the ladies!

He is hilarious- I highly recommend him just for the experience. He tells it like it is. I remember one time he told me I would look better if I wore a little makeup and stopped wearing baggy sweatshirts- that kind of hurt my feelings, I mean what do you want at 9 am? But he is very funny, knowledgeable, and challenging.

Fifteen years later and I remember him and the lessons he taught better than any other professor. He is multi-dimensional and wicked smart. I'm a very successful entrepreneur and have qualified for Mensa and would readily admit that I'm a bozo next to him.

He was my prof in the late seventies. Was so entertaining that I remember more from his classes than any other in my undergraduate studies. Brilliant.
