Jeff was an awesome teacher, he made the subject interesting and fun. Very much a republican and he can back up his position. Tests were challenging, but he prepared you for them. A must for anyone interested in econ.

Jeff is a very good instructor. Always willing to help out if you ask. Very presentation oriented (get used to lots of charts & PowerPoint slides). Keeping up is a must. Frequent homework & quizzes.

My favorite economics teacher. He changed my view on economics, opening my mind a bit. He seems to have a libertarian view.
Do not take him for distance learning. Grade based soley on tests/quizzes. No work. Very hard. No direction.
His test are hard, but I learned a lot of things about economics from his class.
Vance is extremely pedantic & unforgiving. Took his course via distance learning, and was shut out based on missing a test date by 1 day. No extension, no make-up test, no cognizance that a student's life includes work, family, & other classes, not just his. He is one of 2 or 3 instructors whom I would actively recommend against.
I purposely took him again for another distance learning class. He is easy to work with, nice and VERY helpful. By far one of the best teachers I have worked with.
I had a very bad experience with his on line class. You have to understand by yourself....he is not going to help you.
I took his class through distance learning, and he was extremely helpful. He's easy to get ahold of. Due to work, I missed the final test. He called me to let me get an extention to take it, and find out what had happened. The tests are hard, but he gives enough extra work to make up for it. Only had C's on the test, but received a B in the class.
My class had over 100 quizzes, and every single one was both too hard and too dull. No positives.
This was the worst experience in my college career. His lectures are useless. He is arrogant jerk.
Worst prof ever. horrible and really difficult.Hate economics after taking this class. Never taking this guy for any class ever again
Mr Vance is my online instructor for Microeconomics and he doesn't answer your questions promptly, his quizzes and tests are very confusing, and he doesn't give enough time on exams. I would not recommend him to an enemy as an instructor!!!!
Extremely knowledgeable and keeps information up to date. Doesn't accept excuses, so listen during class
Don't pay any attention to the previous comments. Mr. Vance is great, I learned alot and laughed alot. He is very knowledgable, engaging and yes a little arrogant, but only the slackers cared. He expects alot from the students but rewards them for doing the work. The Betsy Rule wasn't as bad as it first sounded, it didn't harm my score at all.
He is the worst professor i have ever had hated economics after getting done with this class, until i took it with someone else and didnt mind eco as much anymore. He is pathetic and nothing in the world can make me take any of his classes again. JERK!!!
This professor is HORRIBLE. Took online. Tests and quizzes make absolutely no sense, and don't even follow along with the textbook! NEVER take this professor!!
After the 2nd test, Jeff printed our grades, and gave us the option to leave that day with that grade. He actually talked me into taking the 3rd test, and it raised my final grade by 2 grades, so I won't say anything bad about the guy.
This professor was one of the most horrible professor I've ever had. His tests were really tricky, and a lot of questions on the tests weren't even in the book. Do not waste your time on his class.
Jeff is an awesome person, and trys his best to help students. The material is very difficult, and he is upfront with you if he thinks you are not putting forth the effort required. This is not a class to take lightly as it is very involved, but he at least makes you laugh. Very prompt with grading and responding to e-mail requests
Vance is the BEST professor I have ever had!!!!! He is an excellent communicator and makes the tough subject of econ. understandable. He will work with you to help you succeed and he is VERY good at what he does!!!!
This class has very hard subject material, and he is not the right teacher to get the point across to his students. He is very rude, very arrogant, and the rudest teacher I have ever personally had. This is the class I've studied most for in my life and couldn't get above a C. Our second test there were 29 F's out of 63 students and no curve.
My favorite teacher I have had at Sinclair! I am taking econ 216 with a different teacher and I hate it. His tests are hard and you have to pay attention, but it totally pays off. Not a class to take if you just want to skim through, but he is awesome!!!
If you want a teacher who sits in class and preaches him opionions the whole time, makes his tests completely different than anything that is taught. You think you know everything and then you take the test and he makes everything 100% more difficult and hard to understand.I would not recommend this class to ANYONE. By far the worst class I've taken
Great professor! Has strict rules and they are enforced. Is very clear about his expectations and very helpful if you just ask. If you're a mature college student looking to learn and willing to work at it you'll love him. If you're lazy/unmotivated/looking for an easy A you'll hate him. Don't be late to his class!!! Locks the door at test time.
Great teacher, he made everything more clear then it was in the book. Put aside class time to talk about current gov. issues. Studied the night before the tests and walked away with an A last test is optional and it can only help your grade. Gives extra credit for attendance and has E.C. assignments. Study and youll be fine
Great teacher and person! If you need help he will make time outside of class for you, he gives E. C. and gives extra points for attendance! The only way NOT to pass this class is to think you don't have to study, and you do, and it pays off!! I started with an F and got a B! STUDY! STUDY! And they have tutors for this class too. Vance is awesome!!
Vance helps out with any questions that you may have. He makes time and takes time to help you understand! You use the text book and just study you will do good. If you don't take time to study you will fail! He gives e.c., attendance points and really is funny in class too!
Excellent teacher
Mr. Vance is the greatest. He is my favorite professor. He's very helpful. DO NOT be late to class. He enforces the rules. I totally respect that in a professor.
It was refreshing to have a class that DOES NOT promote socialism for once. Not only that but have the evidence to back it! The class will be math intensive so be sure you have at least mat 101. Mr. Vance was prepared and energetic for every class.
Completely baffled by the other reviews on here. Vance is by far the rudest teacher I have ever had had here at sinclair. currently retaking this class with another prof just so I can actually learn the material instead of listening to him talk about himself and his arrogant viewpoints
He is a great teacher! Takes the time to explain things completely and clearly. Really cares about his students. Do not be late or break his rules!
Yes, his tests were difficult, but he was a great teacher. I did not think he was rude at all. Funny actually. Take good notes and study. Although Attendance was not mandatory, if you missed a class, you may miss out on test hints.
Proffesor Vance was great. He really knows his stuff and does a great job teaching it. He tries to make it a fun as possible too. I would recomend him to anyone.
This is an outstanding prof. His lectures drive home the message in the book and he will challenge you and engage you into discussion. I highly recommend Prof Vance. He makes the most difficult of topics easy to understand.
This dudes reviews scared me. But alas, he is a great guy, very knowledgable and extremely engaging in class. I learned alot about a subject that I think sucks, but Jeff made it suck less.
Professor Vance is an excellent teacher. Some of the Math involved in the course was difficult to grasp, so I withdrew. However Vance is such a great teacher I re-enrolled in the same course/professor for Fall (this time getting set up with a tutor BEFORE the term begins) Vance takes his teaching serious so come prepared to learn.
Yes, he is a hard teacher, but you actually learn the material. You have to work hard to earn a good grade, but it is worth it and he will help you when you have questions. Plus, it is nice to see a teacher that does NOT have a liberal viewpoint!
Teacher seems more worried about adhearing to his deadlines with no concern for the adult learners committments as well.
Doesn't use the textbook what so ever, i took this course online expecting to read quite a bit and take some tests on that material, instead he makes up definitions and answers from his own note, and without a audio or visual component his tests were impossible. He might be a average teacher in the classroom, but forget online.
Declares himself Republican, loves OSU, av. teacher.
Mr. Vance is a no nonsence kind of guy. He will not let you slide. On the other hand. He gives you plenty of opportunities from extra credit. He is very helpful and very knowledgeable. He gives real life situations to help you learn. He made it interesting. Economics is a hard class.
Professor Vance was wonderfull. His class is TUFF, but he gives you all the tools you will need to succeed. Pay very close attention to his exam prep packages and you will do fine. He will give you as much time as needed outside of the classroom. I will be taking him again in the fall for ECO216.
Prof. Vance is awesome. He really knows his stuff but his class is a bit challenging. That is the nature of Econ courses though, but he explains the material well, and he is very fun. Just make sure that you do not use a cell phone in his class LOL!!
I waited to review him until I was ready to graduate. Jeff is the best Professor I had at Sinclair. No Econ isn't easy but if you get 1 A on an exam you should get an A for the class! A true first class conservative professor. I had him for 216 and 218 and got an A in both. Take him and do the work and you just might be come an Economist.
Jeff Vance is a great! Get an A on one test and there is enough extra credit to easily get an A in the course. I did in both his 218 and 216 Econ classes. It is tough though. He is extremely conservative and that's nice for a change!
Professor Vance is an excellent Economics teacher. He has real world experience, and an interesting perspective on real world events. His class is difficult, but if you study you will do fine.
Professor Vance is great. He knows economic very well. He is the best instructor I ever had at Sinclair. Test is hard. Read the text, do your homwork, you will do fine. Again, this is college, nothing is easy. I am highly recommend taking his class.
Jeff is a good teacher and nice guy. Sometimes he goes off on tangents about his conservative beliefs, which wastes time, but when he actually teaches, he's great and helpful. Taking him for macro next quarter. Best economics option at Sinclair.
Every time I cracked the book, I fell asleep. After the first 2 exams I was sitting at a solid C. After I attended an optional study session (on his own time) I aced the next exam and somehow pulled out a B. This is completely because of Jeff and his crystal clear explanation.
Taken online. I didn't have much interaction with the professor b/c I didn't need to. Half of the students do not pass the online class even though I received a B. The class averages on all tasks except for the last exam were in the failing range. The only negative thing about the professor is that grades are not updated throughout the course.
Just finished up his macro course with an "A". I really like this professor, and it's refreshing to have a teacher who isn't a bleeding heart liberal. The tests are pretty hard, and I didn't get above a B on any of them, but I got an A because I did all of the homework and got the attendance bonus. I highly recommend Professor Vance.
I took Macroeconomics and Corporate Finance with Jeff Vance. Best instructor I've ever had.
Jeff is a fantastic teacher. He provides all of the materials and opportunities necessary for you to succeed as long as you meet him half way. I can see why some students would call him rude or arrogant, he has a crass sense of humor but he is genuinely a nice guy if you don't disrespect him or his rules. Would recommend and take again!
One of the BEST teachers at Sinclair! Yes, the material is difficult, but if you read the book and come to class there is no reason you should get lower than a C (I got an A and B in both Economic classes). He is always available to answer questions during office hours or email. I highly recommend him.
Wonderful Teacher - Took Mr. Vance for Micro and he is great! He will explain anything if you don't understand. Very knowledgeable. Will definitely take for Macro next semster!
Very good professor. Truly cares about his students and wants them to succeed. If you don't understand something, just ask. The class setting is comfortable and he is funny too. I enjoyed coming to class.
I took him for Macro and Micro and he is a great instructor. He is very thorough when he covers the material and will answer any question. Assignments are online and are fairly easy as long as you keep up with each week's assignments. Tests are all multiple choice and we review in class before the test. Great Instructor!!
Im not sure how Mr. Vance's course is in person, but I would highly discourage students from taking his course online. He is no help once so ever, and the book used is absolutely awful at explaining formulas. I would not recommend this instructor at all. Absolutely awful.
he is very bad teacher i have ever seen. he always deducted 20 points for each class. if u missed 1 class. he is very boring and bad teacher. he didn't know how to teach. the test always came from out of book or out of syllabus.
Mr. Vance is definitely the best ECON professor at Sinclair. Bad reviews about him are people that either failed or didn't do what they were suppose to do. You can earn 100 extra credit points in his class just for doing what you are suppose to do, which is come to class. Sorry for those of you that don't want to do so.
Do not take this class online with this professor. Or online at all. I did 5-10 hours a week of homework and still did not pass the course because of 2 points. I asked for help numerous times through email and rarely received any feedback and if I did it would be like 2 weeks later when it was no longer helpful.
He is a great teacher, but this is just a hard class. If you go to class, do the homework, and extra credit you should do fine. The test are pretty hard, but he prepares you well for them.
Far the best Econ teacher at Sinclair. If you can, choose him over any other instructor. Very clear, will stop and answer ANY questions. Gives exam reviews. As long as you attend class regularly you should do well. His lectures are very clear and helpful! Not only does he understand the material, but is great at teaching it.
Vance is a great teacher, but you really have to pay attention those first few weeks, or the rest of the material wont make sense to you. He's kind and understanding. If I do end up failing his class, it will be my own fault for not paying attention the first few weeks.
Very down to earth teacher. He keeps his class very light hearted and funny. Doesn't teach from the book that much but he is still very knowledgeable and helpful.
Great teacher
He gives extra credit if you attend every class.
Score more than 75 in his tests and complete all home works, you should do fine.
DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE ONLINE FROM THIS PROF. It is in your best interest to go to campus. For online, you do not get exam reviews. He takes a while to answer you as well. I can see that he does not seem to make his online students a priority. THIS CLASS IS HARD. It seems he gives points if you actually go to his class and helps prepare for tests.
He keeps class interesting and entertaining. Economics is a very difficult concept, but he is differently the best Econ prof I've ever had.
I had fun in this class. He explains how certain situations relate to real life. Always very laid back. I took the hybrid course but still wasn't too bad, he just ran out of time on his lectures a few times.
Hilarious and knows his stuff. He can be a jerk, so don't take him if you are overly sensitive. Show up, take notes, and ask questions.
I think the only thing I regretted about taking this class was the fact I took it at night. I was exhausted and it was not a fun class to go to. Other than that he was great, you need to go to class, do all of your homework, and STUDY for those tests!
Jeff Vance is a solid choice for Econ. I took the hybrid version and met once a week for 2 hours. He definitely filled the 2 hours with lots of material, but not anything that wasn't already in the book. He offered extra credit for attendance and homework. He talked a lot but he is a super funny guy and made the lectures worth your time.
Amazing! His lectures were very intriguing because he always related the things we talked about in class, on how it relates to the real world. He usually always brought in real data to use in example problems. The tests were easy because he gives practice exams online, and they are identical to the real ones. Also He only does tests and NO finals!
Hands down my favorite professor so far. You will certainly have to study for this class though! Attendance is mandatory but I honestly think I did so well in his class due to his lectures.
Hands down best economics teacher ever! I really struggle with these kind of classes and he is AWESOME at explaining things. Ask questions and he will elaborate. Super funny and doesn't make class boring. You have to show up to class and study in order to pass this class. If you were smart you would have him as your teacher. Friendly, clear, helpful.
Mr. Vance rocks! Took his hybrid course, so only got 1 lecture per week. He was very accessible outside of class and was always willing to help! He literally explained things until I understood them - and sometimes that took a while. He doesn't require attendance for a grade, but if you want to pass, you'd better be there. Take the practice exams!
This class is test heavy, 4 exams, and those exams are a HUGE part of your grade. So, if you're a poor test taker, good luck. Doesn't seem to make online students a priority, I've received only short responses that took a while to get to me.
This class is hard, but he is there to help you. He will explain things in class over and over until it is pounded in your head which is great for the tests. He also ties lectures into current events and cracks jokes here and there. Extra credit is given fr taking quizzes online and going to class. Great professor for a tough business core class.
Although this professor seems to know his stuff, He is more of a dictator when it comes to attending his class. He cares more about his own class time that he does anything else. This professor tends to belittle the author of the book and loves to put his own spin on things which can kind of be confusing to some. Tests are VERY tricky, so beware.
Jeff really knows his stuff. He is clear and makes sure students understand materials. He is big on attendence so if you can't attend 5 classes you will loose points on your grade but you get extra credit if you attend class. He really is there for students. He is also pretty funny.
Best professor I have had at Sinclair. Really knows his stuff and is too the point from day 1. He is also great to talk to and get help with things outside of the class. Lectures are worth the time to pass the class. He also gives you extra credit for going to class. Book wise you need the access code but do not need the physical text book.
Professor Vance wants you to pass first and foremost, and to be able to do that you must take advantage of the help he gives you. He has labs once a week which he will help you individually in understanding macro. He gives great practice exams and lots of study material. I Highly recommend him because he wants his students to succeed. StudyPassing
Jeff's class wasn't the highlight of my day, but it wasn't terrible. I usually hadn't read the book at all, but his lectures were understandable and caught me up pretty quickly. Just make sure to pay attention to things he says will be on his tests and to look over the practice quizzes and past homework assignments before a test.
Very much enjoyed this class. He answered all questions and was clear on how to do the math. I learned a lot from this class. would recommend to others. There is homework but not overwhelming amount. You are tested on what is talked about in class when you go through the chapters. If you pay attention you will do well. attendance is important.
If you need/want to take this class I would recommend taking it in person and not online. Professor Vance seems to give more extra credits opportunities and help to his in class students. Exams are 80% of your grade and the material is difficult online. I sent him several emails and got one worded replies back. He did not seem very eager to help.
Vance genuinely wants his students to succeed. There are 3 assignments for each chapter. But, learn smart/homework can be continued until you reach 100%, and all quizzes are extra credit! The biggest challenge is keeping up with reading, but his lectures cover the main concepts and related details. Plus, he is always available to answer questions!
IMPORTANT This teacher does not allow laptops to take notes. You can record his lectures with permission. You get 5% for showing up and not using your laptop 20% of course content is online through the book's CONNECT service. A potential 5% added to course grade dependent on optional online quiz grades. Tests are questions provided by the publisher
Instructor Vance is one of the best I've had at Sinclair. Makes a difficult subject easier to understand. Offers some easy extra credit that can change your grade. Come to every class and get extra credit. Take the quizzes and get extra credit. He's also funny.
Frustrating to clarify things with. Questions get met with passive aggression that makes you feel like you should have known better than to ask. I stopped asking questions just to avoid dealing with him. Homework is directly applicable because it's outsourced to McGraw Hill.
the class is all online and McGraw Hill website he uses is so buggy and made me fail my first exam and was on hold with the company for 3 hours till they could figure out that my time on my laptop was off by 2 min and Jeff was absolutely unprofessional when handling it saying it my fault and ending the conversation off with do not call me again.
It's obvious that he just copies his powerpoints and quizzes off of quizlet. He falsely claimed that I didn't respond to multiple emails (which he never sent). Pretty annoying to be flat out lied to by a professor who obviously doesn't care about student success.
Obvious that he doesn't care about his students. He makes none of his coursework, all he does is make quizlet copied powerpoints and send condescending emails.
He is very personable and provides real life examples HOWEVER THIS CLASS IS TOUGH PASS ATTENTION FROM FIRST CHAPTER IF NOT YOU WILL STRUGGLE AS I DID CLEARLY !
Jefferey Vance us by far the worst teacher Ive ever met at Sinclair Community College. He graded me harshly, made rude remarks when I got up to go to the bathroom in his class, and made me feel like I was the dumbest student in the world for asking questions so I could possibly understand the work he doesnt explain. Avoid at all costs
Overall very poor professor. Gives little to no feedback and if any is given, its usually rude and/or unproductive. If you do poorly on just one of the tests, your grade will be very hard to get back up. Hw assignments are worth very little, meaning the whole class is basically graded on a few tests that are explained poorly.
Do yourself a favor and avoid vance, incredibly unprofessional when it comes to emails and if you struggle on just one test it's nearly impossible to fix your grade. He does offer a "get out of jail free pass" that allows you to extend the due date by a week, but be prepared for a rude, condescending email if you dare use it. Just find someone else
My class was online, he didn’t interact with us at all not even a single email and if you asked him about something just be prepared to any rude answer.
Did not offer much support, and wasn't very accessible. Also, there was no curves on tests which are worth 60% of your grade. Also sends passive aggressive emails.
Prof Vance spent a lot of classes just sitting at the desk "teaching" us. Very few times was powerpoint used. He would sometimes write things on the board to show different graphs. He did help show examples on how to do the homework in class. I personally don't feel like I learned anything in the class, kind of just got by.
Very unprofessional and obvious he doesn't care about student success. I went to Sinclair for one semester instead of the two years I planned, and Jeff Vance is the sole reason I transferred. He rarely gives insightful lectures, just reads bullet points word for word without going in depth. He also gaslit me and said he sent emails that he didn't
At first, I didn't like Mr Vance but after speaking with him via zoom, I got to understand him and actually really liked him. His tests are tough but if you study and seek help when you don't understand something, you should do fine. Overall, while the class is tough, I actually enjoyed the content. Mr. Vance isn't a bad guy, he's just no BS.
the final grade was 70% based on the exam grade... and there are 3 exams and 1 major test in that category. He seems like a nice guy but it was a tough class and I feel like the grading criteria and the exam grade being so heavily weighted really hurt me overall. i did great in class but mediocre on exams and it killed my grade.
Incredibly test heavy. 70% of your total grade is based on exams and tests so if you're not a good test taker or can't spend every waking minute studying just his class, the odds of you doing well are pretty slim. Amazed at how many positive reviews he has, quite possibly the most stressful class I've taken
BE PREPARED FOR YOUR ENTIRE GRADE (70%) TO BE CALCULATED OFF OF PROCTORED EXAMS.
Vance is very caring and understands life circumstances. The class was easy if you went to lectures and completed all assignments. I found success in taking extra time with understanding practice exams. He is great at explaining and teaching the content. He is very clear on every assignment and if there's a problem it won't last long.
Vance was completely unreasonable. Vance gives you a one time only "get out of jail free card". When you attempt to use it, he will ask if you were able to get assignments done for other classes. He sends passive aggressive emails. The McGraw Hill smart book checks are extremely long. He didn't interact with online learners. Avoid at all costs.
He's a wonderful teacher who knows his stuff!
Professor Vance's class had a tough grading criteria, but Unstuck AI helped with study prep. He's hit-or-miss, but engaging with his teaching system works well. Textbook is used, attendance is mandatory.
Basically lied to the class in saying if you fail all exams, you should pass with at least a C. Not true. I didn't pass the class and 75% of your grade is passing exams even if you do well on everything else. Insist on installing proctorio because believe everyone is a " cheater ". Will never take another class. Avoid at all cost.
Complete A** completely failed me due to not fully showing my ID during an exam? While being able to still see my face and name still claimed that was a reason to fail me and try to get me completely removed from sinclair after filing a report against him with the Dean. Just went ahead and dropped the class. He needs to get a life after his divorce
Do good on the first exam and the big quiz. Do all the extra credit and get all 100s on the homework, discussions, and online textbooks. Then you can bomb exams 2 and 3 and pass no problems. I got a 64 and a 40 on exams 2 and 3 and finished with a 79.
Course is heavily weighted on proctored exam grades. If you put in the effort, complete all assignments with good scores, and perform decently on the exams, you will pass. He is very supportive and goes the extra mile to help if you show genuine interest and motivation to do well in the class.
Professor Vance makes sure you understand the subject, he is a great professor the best in economics but I recommend checking your work with a tutor it helps boost your grade.
Good lectures (doesn't just read a slideshow), dropped our two lowest weekly homeworks so if you had a busy week and couldn't get it done it was fine. Tests are 70% of the grade but if you just watch the livestream that the Sinclair tutor, Mark, gives out going over a practice test it's not too hard.
Way too much homework. Makes exams have webcam and microphone on.
