Very funny teacher! Class was always interesting and interacted with students a lot during class. Sometimes was not super clear during class but if you asked he would usually come back to a point in the next class. Very approachable in office hours and really wants to help students do well and succeed. Super nice guy, would recommend!
Hilarious and fair on tests. Really wants to see his students succeed and is passionionate and absolutely brilliant within the realms of Chemistry.
The best prof SFU has. Nice, approachable and fair plus knows his stuff.
Great guy, lightens the mood of the class with jokes and is pretty good at explaining complex chemistry concepts. Would take a class with him again.
Hilarious professor, be prepared for a laugh every lecture. However, he is a hard marker and makes difficult exams.
Very funny and nice guy. Explains well but outside help is needed to do well. Very accessible and makes lectures worth coming too. It's a difficult course tho. Very heavy and you can't fall behind. Definitely makes you work for it. I recommend going to tutorials as I actually got a solid understanding from them which helped during lecture.
A very funny & knowledgeable prof! The best way I learned was by going to all the tutorials and that was extremely helpful. Study in advance as you can't learn everything a few days before the final. Also read the textbook and do its problems! You need to be able to understand many concepts and be able to apply them to the final exam questions
He is very willing to help during office hours. He stayed an extra hour just to go over my midterm with me (even missed a lunch meeting). He says he's just doing his job but I must say he goes above and beyond. I wish he taught Chem 122 as well since he is an awesome prof. Exams were challenging. Make sure you start studying after midterm is over.
Awesome prof and hilarious guy! Chem 121 was definitely a hard course especially for a first year. Make sure to attend office hours if you dont understand a concept or ask Ta's . Exams, midterms and some lon capa questions were hard but lectures+office hours+tutorials helped me. Really wish he taught chem 122 because he a good prof.
Lectures have quite a bit of content. Be sure to review it afterwards by reading the textbook. Very engaging and really connects with the students. Always prepared and does a great job. Also, always finish the LONCAPA to succeed!!!!
I've also had the pleasure of having him in CHEM230&459. He is amazing, approachable, funny. Overall great man and makes the subject of inorganic chemistry enjoyable. Though, I feel that I could listen to that man teach anything with his charm and humour. If ever in trouble, stop by his office and ask for help.
final was completely theory based. I am not good at chem but studied a lot and ended up with a C+, when I am normally an A student
Jeff is easily the best prof I've had so far. So funny I literally made a word doc where I wrote funny quotes and ended up with two pages. Including: "So what, nuclear energy is just a deeply unsexy steam engine, yes yes it is" "I dont trust fed ex or UPS I have trust issues"
He is a really approachable person in office hours, and knows what he is doing. Jeff is organized and makes lots of jokes. Overall, I enjoyed his class and would definitely recommend him.
Tough content but lectures were funny + interesting. He really knows his stuff and he is good at explaining it. Decent amount of loncapa but very doable. Definitely go to tutorial esp if a certain topic is challenging for you
Jeff Warren is a knee-slapping hilarious prof. He is highly accessible outside of class and spends extra time in office hours to help out his students. His lectures are fast-paced, so be ready to to spend a lot of time outside of class reviewing.
Jeff's a funny guy, the content of the class is extremely difficult though but he tries his best to make it interesting/easier to understand; the final was mostly conceptual and was definitely easier than the midterm
Hands down one of the nicest people I've ever met. Dr. Warren has a clear passion for chemistry but also teaching. If you ever go to office hours (highly recommend you do), you'll see how much he cares about his students. He puts in a great amount of effort into making sure you understand concepts and makes the content a little less intimidating.
Jeff is a meme lord. He also cares about his students much more than the average professor. He could work on his handwriting and file organization.
Prof Warren is HILARIOUS. Go to all of his lectures if you're feeling down. If you didn't get the material, you got a good laugh. And you can always come to his office hours to clarify the materials; he is always available to help if you asked and will readily extend his office hours near the exam day to accommodate all students.
One of two profs who split the chem121 lecture during the semester, and Warren was definitely the better half of the semester. Funny and introduced topics in ways that kept the class intrigued.
Absolutely one of the best prof in SFU, I made appointment frequently, and he is so patient and caring.
Think "American suburban movie dad". This is what he looks and sounds like, yet he is a meme KING. He found ways to make chem so fun and did great experiments. The class was very difficult but he was so accessible and did multiple review sessions before the final for struggling students (like me!). For a tough subject like chem, he's a gem!
I was super nervous to start online classes, especially as a first-year. prof warren is honestly so kind and genuine. he communicates with us on the daily and does an absolutely amazing job using our gen-z lingo. he is chill and extremely helpful as well. the course is difficult but prof warren gives me motivation to want to do well.
Chem 120 was split between two profs and I'd say Warren's half of the semester was just barely the worse half. He's good at explaining concepts but he tried to make his lecture videos under 10 minutes so I feel like there werent enough examples to really solidify the concepts. He's a really fun guy and you gotta love his hashtags during lectures.
Prof Warren truly is a real gem. The kind things I could say about this man are really off the charts. He's incredibly kind, and very funny, as well as being incredibly capable as a professor. I don't think I've ever been more excited for a class as I have this one. Biggest thing: GO TO OFFICE HOURS!!! Office hours are a WICKED good time.
Prof Warren taught the second half of my chem120 course. He clearly cares about his students, and offered us tons of practice problems with worked-out solutions. Some quizzes were quite difficult. This is a hard class, and practicing LonCapa, provided materials, and textbook worked examples are the best ways to prepare for quizzes and exams.
Really nice guy, office hours were hilarious. Short lectures, but explained well. Use the assignments and textbook questions to study, midterm and final are fair with some tricky questions - learning concepts & practice is key if you struggle with chem. Quizzes are worth more than the final so make sure to take them seriously - no feedback given.
Prof Warren may the best prof I have had at SFU. He's hilarious and great at teaching the course material. I found his half of the course easier than the first half. His office hours were extremely useful. The final seemed easier than the midterm. Take this course with Warren and Leznoff if you have the chance!
Prof Warren was fine, but not amazing. He taught well enough, and tried to add some entertainment into the lectures. My least favourite part of the class was not being allowed to see what you did wrong on tests and quizzes.
Hands-down great professor, super helpful and a funny guy. The class was still difficult and it's best to come to class and listen to his lectures. I'd do some extra reading to be prepared for quizzes - most of the questions come directly from the textbook so that gets you prepared! He's really nice and responds to emails promptly.
Hes a solid prof
Warren is a solid prof! His lectures are simple and to the point (he also sprinkles in jokes too!). Definitely recommend doing lots of practice problems and reading the textbook to get a solid understanding of the material because the class isnt easy!
His lectures were very short, straightforward and easy to follow if you read the readings he had assigned. This was hard class and I found him to be good at teaching difficult material.
Tough course, but prof was great! I felt like I learned a lot from him.
Probably best professor Ive had so far. Loved his lectures as they were entertaining and short. Posted solutions to his practice final which many other profs havent done. Overall would definitely recommend him to others just make sure youre on top of your work from day 1
He loves memes and jokes a lot so that made online class a bit fun. Content is difficult so understand the material don't go off memorizing the notes because the concepts are what you need to understand for the final and some calculations. He's a really chillz prof and communicates with the class well.
Love prof Warren. He genuinely cares about his students. Hell answer all your questions during office hours and will do so until you fully understand. Hes very down to earth and has a great sense of humor. Youll do great if you practice until you no longer need the formula sheet, understand all concepts fully and complete all lon capas on time.
Likes to tell jokes but nobody laughs at it. But don't get me wrong, he is enthusiastic with chem and is willing to solve any problem. I went to his office hours and he is so patient to teach me (and he has many students!) His class is also very interesting, he made chem fun!
GOAT. Professor Warren has the best lectures. Although he teaches chemistry, which is pretty difficult and hard to understand, he always finds ways to make it interesting. One of the best profs I've had so far, he's really helpful at the office hours, and has the best demos during class. Also posts worked examples and videos on canvas.
Very engaging lecturer, knows how to draw people in, charismatic. Also very engaging and helpful during office hours, highly recommend going to it if you can. His video lectures are also very well made so if you miss lectures you can still catch up just as well. Pay attention to his instructions during exams or you'll be subjected to his wrath.
He's good that's all you need to know
Prof Warren is hands down one of the funniest profs I've ever had. Even though this was a ridiculously challenging class, Jeff somehow made it seem less intimidating and scary. He goes over the content really well and also adds his own funny wits to it to make the class funny and enjoyable (not to mention he also blows up balloons in class)
Dr. Warren was fantastic, always cracking jokes, and explaining why the chemistry we were learning was important in a variety of different fields. He did some great demos, that I won't spoil for those taking a class with him in the future, that helped you understand the material. If you want to do well, study the practice questions in the textbook!
Warren himself was a good professor, I just found the topics covered in Chem 120 very hard. Warren's jokes were a great mood lightener during lectures and he had a way of making some topics interesting. The demos were great. When he took over my grades went up and I believe it's because his teaching style worked better for me than Leznoff.
Lecture material relevant to exam. Very engaging lecturer. Reading the textbook before lectures will add to the lecture and learning experience, please do it. Could not recommend him more.
Jeff is the best chem prof ever. He made lectures interesting and offered the class solid advice often. His final was fair as long as you practice. Jeff was always available during office hours and I recommend you go as they are fun and informative. He explained anything I need re-enforcement on and would work practice problems with me if needed!
The course was difficult, and I had to retake it in order to pass. My second time around I committed to getting a GOOD tutor, going to ALL the office hours, and doing LOTS of practice problems. Jeff Warren is nice and made getting help really accessible and I looked forward to having chats with him during office hours. Use all the resources given!
Warren is an overall good prof. Tons of examples in class. IF you are not good at chem, I HIGHLY suggest reading the textbook and doing the examples. Understanding fundamental concepts conceptually and being able to explain them is ALSO a must for the midterm/final. GO to his office hours and ask as many questions as you can.
Warren is very personable and entertaining. Chem 121 is hard, but he makes going to lectures fun. He gives good examples and explains concepts well. He will help you if you go to office hours. GO TO OFFICE HOURS! Practice is key. This class is humbling to say the least. Praying 4 u, not cuz the prof but the class is brutal
Actual beast. Loved his lectures, very entertaining and along with working harder in the second half, I was able to revive my grade when he started lecturing. Lots of practice was required to understand the material, but it builds off each other. Reading the textbook prior to lecture will help immensely
Cool guy, pretty sure he stalks the discord servers as hulk hogan. Felt like I understood his section of the course better. Lots of examples in-class/online to help understand concepts. The class is just difficult, final was like practice final, but that still just means it was hard.
Dr. Warren is great. He provides super engaging lectures that encourage students to learn. And besides the common technological error on his iPad, everything was great and I really recommend taking his class. He provides lots of worked examples which are great to review. Overall great prof, 10/10. #WarrenApproved
This class was super heavy, but Professor Warren made it a bit more tolerable. Going to lectures was fun as he was always making jokes that I sometimes forgot about how depressing this course really is. Be prepared to study hard, as there are a lot of difficult concepts to go through.
Dr. Warren is the Top G of SFU. Even though his ability to use his iPad and technology in general was severely limited, his teaching ability was not at all hindered by it. I was getting a 14% average before his half but after he took over, I suddenly understood every single CHEM121 concept and ended up getting an A+ in this course thanks to him
This guy is the absolute goat and my favourite prof by a mile. He does so many examples in lecture and straight up gave our class around 15 out of the 50 types of questions we'd see on the final. I ended up barely passing the midterm when Leznoff was the prof, but thanks to this legend I did well on the final and finished with a solid grade.
He's such an amazing professor. Seems like he actually cares about his students and not like Leznoff who would expect us to watch lectures outside class time... One time I went to Warren's office hours and he helped me for like 30 minutes with my homework.. such a kind soul. I recommend him to anyone who is not good at chemistry.
Dr. Warren is a pretty good prof in general. His exams are difficult but his lectures are fun which I find interesting. However, to get a really high mark like an A in this class, I guess note-taking/summarizing the chapters and reading the book are what must be done along with doing a lot of practice questions to fully understand the material.
He's great and always willing to help 10/10
Warren is a great prof that wasn't afraid to crack some jokes and just be a good person. His lectures were engaging, straight to the point, and full of examples and review. Would 100% take a course with him again.
Dr. Warren is great, he genuinely wants everyone to do well. Lectures were a blast. He does plenty of practice problems that are super relevant, so make sure you write them all down, he also posted additional problems and answers on canvas. It may seem like a lot since there's a lot of content, but thats just how it is
Very engaging, up to date, loves memes, and teaches well.
Warren goes over lots of examples in class. Make sure to understand each of them and you'll be prepared for the final.
His lectures were so funny and very easy to follow (especially after the difficulties keeping up with Leznoff's lectures). He obviously cared a lot about chemistry and his students. I hope I can get another class with him again.
Warren is an awesome prof!! He's super helpful during office hours and was willing to take the time to go over confusing topics. He did many examples of even basics like Lewis dot structures and stoichiometry. He's super funny and makes lectures worth attending. He is an amazing professor and makes up for the rocky first half of chem 121 w Leznoff.
Example heavy lectures. And in comparison to Leznoff, teaches in a slower pace which was a godsend to the first section of the course. His section of content honestly saved me from failing the course.
Jeffrey Warren is an absolutely AMAZING chem prof. His lectures were very clear and easy to understand, and he also liked to inadvertently say some pretty amusing things during his explanations. He makes the material easy to understand and also does some example problems during lectures. 10/10
His lectures were very useful with lots of examples! He also posts lots of practice problems and shows how to do all of them which was very helpful.
he is the best prof I have ever had. he genuinely cares for your success and wants to see everyone do well. I did so bad during leznoff's section but warren saved me. he did lots of examples in lectures that appeared on the final! he is such a goated man and if it wasn't for him, I would have failed.
Dr. Warren is great. The lectures were never boring, he would always do examples of final exam questions during lectures, and always willing to help everyone.
jeff is a great teacher and goes through many examples in class. his practice exams are really similar to the actual exams
Favorite First-year chemistry prof
Perfect Prof. PERFECT. He is up to date with how modern day students learn and want to be taught. He does his lectures in two ways - Pictures and words. He also provides sufficient examples which helps you complete assignments flawlessly. The content is quite easy too!
On my second attempt of Chem 121 with Warren again and he is even funnier (if you like a prof who does alot of examples you will be very happy)
If you like chemistry and stand up this the prof youre looking for
10x better than Leznoff this guy made me want to wake up and go to class
(part 2 - I am the one who posted the review below). Warren also told me to drink pilk (pepsi + milk) combination before the exam and boy oh boy I for sure listened to him. I was gripping the toilet seat after the final but I did it because he's my pookie.
He is a very good teacher and explains things very well
Easily best prof ive had so far. Perfect lectures, always engaging. Love u Warren
GOAT duo along with Prof Lenzoff. Really enjoy them both. They are funny and their lectures are helpful for midterm and final.
GOAT Chem duo with Prof. Lenzoff. I really enjoy them in chem. They are funny and their lectures are really helpful for midterm and final exam
He's a nice person, but I'm not sure why he's so hyped. Every year these two profs pray on people's downfall by giving really hard and long exams that people can't finish in time. Incredibly difficult exam questions compared to the little material taught in class. He was better than Leznoff, but overall avoid taking chemistry with these two ever.
Really entertaining prof. He is really good at teaching and tries his best to engage the class with his gen z humor. He wasn't lying when he said the final was easier.
Dr. Warren is such a lovable guy. His lectures are always enjoyable and I really appreciate how he puts effort into making the content actually interesting via his tone and method of teaching. He had lots of cool demos and I really appreciated how he went above and beyond to help his students after how poorly we did on the midterm.
Warren is awesome. I SCRAPED by in this class, but Warren's half of the course absolutely saved me. He works through a lot of examples and practice questions, giving you ample opportunity to practice and do well. He's also very accessible, and encouraging. His lectures are fun, and he keeps the good vibes going.
Warren's half of the course literally saved my grade after doing horrible on the midterm. It was so easy to understand concepts and he used a lot of examples as well. Warren the goat!!!!!
took chem 121 with him. after a horrendous first half of chem, warren came in clutch when he was needed most. lectures were enjoyable and he did a lot of examples for the class which really helped for the final exam.
good prof does examples
Best prof i've had. So fun and made me wanna come to lectures. He'd do examples that would be similar to the final. Cracked jokes making the most complex ideas fun. Loved this guy and would take a class with him again 100 times. GOATED prof.
Just like leznoff, u can tell he likes chemistry. He is very energetic and hilarious. tends to say "what the sigma" and references the diddy party here and there. he only covers 3 chapters so he has tons of time for examples which help u understand things better. Leznoff had to go over 7 in the same span so that's why he seems worse. Overall amazin
Explains concepts really clearly and did lots of example questions. He will make the most out of pocket jokes and it really keeps you engaged in the class!
THE GOAT. Explains, shows examples, re-explains. It is so easy to do well with Warren. Just show up to lecture and tutorial and he will tell you what is in the test. Albeit, the material is not easy stuff, but you will do well by paying good attention and watching the practice videos he posts on Canvas. Thank you for changing my life GOAT
Warren's part of the course saved my grade. I almost failed the first midterm but aced the final due to his practice examples in class. Go to lecture because he literally says whats on the final. Professor Warren is a very enthusiastic and I genuinely enjoyed his lectures. Take a course with him hes great.
goes through basically all questions on exam and wants you to succeed, his material is well explained in lectures and full of examples! Very helpful in office hours and would often stay late
Just buy the textbook and stay home. His lectures are giving cow.
I would no sooner die before I show up to his class again.
One of the best chemistry profs at SFU. Prepare for some extremely random tangents. My advice for future takers of his class are that his exams (at least in 332) expect you to really understand the material so you definitely need to do more than just memorize a couple equations.
Goat, was so clear on how we would be tested and graded, knew when we needed to do in class examples to clarify harder concepts, and tried to make lectures engaging and funny
A really small class when I took it, so he was really able to answer many questions. Great lectures that really showed his passion for biochem. No assignments, due to it just being a 3 week long course. Although going to lectures wasn't mandatory, still worth it because they were hilarious. Content of the final wasn't that clear though.
