This guy is ****ed, but cheating in his class is as easy as 1-2-3.
He's a jerk. Tries to be funny in class but honestly doesn't give a sh*t about the students. You can probably get away without taking both tests (only gives midterm & final). His lectures are pretty interesting but tests are IMPOSSIBLE!

While every other eco teacher in the world uses pre-made charts and graphs, this guy likes to draw them new with marker every time, and the graphs NEVER make sense. even worse, he bases the entire class on these graphs that are totally illegible.

i usually try to be interested in the classes that i take so that i can learn and not get bored but this man makes that impossible. I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO BORED IN MY LIFE!! the class has about 500 kids 80 % of whom are sleeping...i had to drop this class.
His whole lesson plan was a bunch graphs. I had to teach myself the whole damn course so that I could pass the class. Talks about nothing and his jokes are soooo corny. In a class of about 400--90% were sleeping. Dont take him!!!! Save Yourself.

Honestly thi's the worst professor in baruch. He admitted that he was the worst professor in his dept. More than half of the class fail. If you feel that u can teach the whole course to yourself take it; because from his class u will not learn anything.

I took this professor in the Spring 2004 and he was HORRIBLE! Please do your self a favor and stay clear of this dude. All he does is draw uneven graphs in class and he expects you to understand. The book hardly helps so dont even try studying from there. If you dont believe me then good luck!!!

I usually give my teachers the benefit of the doubt. BUt imagine coming into a class in which everyone leaves in the middle becuase of how bad this guy teaches. also imagine getting 2 tests to determine yolurgrade and these tests dont even resemble anything he does in class!!!!!!!!1
Class was very easy. He writes notes up on the projector which makes it easier to pay attention than slides. Can sometimes make things harder than they really are but the tests are easy if you just study the practice mult. Choice online.
He's a genius and a terrific lecturer. The class is hard but worth the time. He's a brilliant man and we are lucky to have him. Take his class and really get into the finer points.
He is a horrible professor. He cannot teach and students usually leave after attendance is taken! The rest sleep for the hour. The book was pretty helpful and studying it(plust the fact that the exam was multiple choice) allowed me to get a B+ in the class but I warn against taking him. HORRIBLE!!!

Only two exams, Midterm and Final. In class he really covers barely anything. Draws maybe two line graphs and that pretty much covers the class. I went to the resuscitation class every week and wonder why he never taught that stuff getting reviewed. I'm not a sleeper and he puts me to sleep.

It's a extremely boring class. If you want good grades and also to learn something, choose another professor. There' only a midterm and the final, so your chances of getting a good grade are very low. Conclusion: avoid him if you can.

Try taking him,& attend the recitations. I gained more from the recitations & Prof. Joyce videos than from the lecture

This teacher is EXTREMELY under-rated. All you have to do is put in a LITTLE bit of effort and not fool around and you will get a B or higher.
My honest opinion, I did not learn anything from his lectures. You have to read the book. The worse thing about his class is the lecture. He puts everyone to sleep. During class he plays stocks. I can't image baruch actually pays him to teach.

He wasn't that bad, just talked in a very boring voice, and rushed through things, but we had little time as it was a sumer class. If you read the book and write notes you'll do fine. I love eco and I had no problem reading it. I got an A in his class despite being told to drop him early in the semester, that would've been a mistake.

He is the worst professor I had since coming to Baruch. He doen't explain anything. he talks more about himself than economics. I had some very good naps in that class. The only reason I went was attendance. I even went to class as late as possible so that i won't be there for long.
VERY Underrated. Since I had both Kleinberg and Weiss, I prefered Weiss much more. He kept the class interesting and described the concepts well IMO. To ALL you people that complain about him, Its YOUR fault you did bad. Apply yourself and study instead of taking a dam nap in class!!!!!
Well if you truly deserved that 4.0 you wouldnt have found this class hard regardless of the teacher. The midterm questions were easy and straight forward, i didnt even study much for it and got a B.
I studied a great deal for midterm. questions were esoteric and included things like "why'd i brag bout my stocks". i have almost 4.0 so for every1 saying hes easy and underated, trust me not them, the man can't teach. spends most time bragging bot himself. even studying text doesn't help
This professor cannot teach. Doesnt even tell you what chapter he is up to. Midterm included questions like "which stocks did I say to invest in". Speaks alot about his personal life and includes these questions in the midterm. More than half the lecture class got between the D & F range.

Very unfair professor. I got an A in mid, then a B+ in final. He only gave me the letter grade of B+. One of my friends got a C in mid and B+ in final, but got the same letter grade with me. What a horrible guy! He never cares about student. In his class, he only draws some graphs during the whole period. Leave him. Don't take him.

He talks about economics, but nothing pertaining to the class. Whatever he lectures about MAY be helpful in the business world, however it will not help you on the midterm and final. Read the book, do the quizzes online and do the practice problems.

took him a few years ago, in the summer as a freshman. the WORST experience of my life. picture a mumbling, stuttering Woody Allen trying to teach eco, giving stupid examples like markets for marijuana to try and entertain students. you will sleep in class, learn nothing, and kill ur GPA. He does not teach you what he will ask on the tests. There is no need to go to class, just read the book, read ALL the chapters he assigned even if he says he won't test on some parts. He is forgetful and tests on things he never taught in class but thinks he did. Avoid him if you actually want to learn something from a human instead of a book.

The worst professor I've ever had. He doesn't have a structured lesson plan and even though it's an introductory course, he assumes you already know everything. Only gave a final and midterm and then because everyone did horribly on the midterm, based the entire grade on the final. Everyone failed but the huge curve gave us a passing grade.

Prof Weiss makes economics interesting! While the class and tests are hard, he makes the subject so relevant to the real world and how business works. If you really want to learn and be challenged then take Weiss. He rocks!

Prof. Weiss is not that bad. He's not that good of a teacher, but I studied hard for the final and did incredibly well. He curves both the midterm and final and everything he puts on their is from the book. If you apply yourself, you should get past his poor ability to teach.
The only thing that saved me, and probably a lot of people in the class, was the curve. His lectures seem like he just walks in and decides what he's going to talk about right in front of us. The review sessions are helpful. Midterm and Final. Your final grade is the exam grade, so you have to do well on it.

His class was one of the most interesting ever. He made economics real and I just landed a fab job at JP Morgan. I worked really hard in his class and with the curve got a great grade and learned a lot! Take him if you want to learn a lot.

Economics is hard and Weiss makes it interesting. Study hard and you'll learn a lot and get a good grade. I did and got a great recommendation from him for grad school. He's great
Economics is not the most interesting subject and he does not help! He doesn't teach well. He just does class discussions which are sometimes interesting but mostly not helpful. He draws and tries to explain graphs in front of the class but hardly anyone understands. I recommend staying away. Tests are okay but he is not helpful at all.
I'm taking Weiss this semester and I'm so impressed. He's knowledgeable, interesting and is making the class fun. While the class is hard, he's making it far more interesting than I thought econ would be. A must take professor!

Taking Weiss this semester and while Eco is hard, he is easily one of the best profs at Baruch. He expects a lot and I know I'll learn a lot in his class. My brother took Weiss two years ago and now he's got a great job at Merrill.
Had him in a large lecture class. He is very knowledgeable and he tries to keep it interesting and entertaining which isnt easy for economics. Multiple choice Midterm and cumulative final, no HW at all. His voice however can put anyone to sleep. I would recommend.

Proffessor i know that you read our comments. i am one of your students. i would highly appriciate if u form us in a small group with 5 to 6 people randomly and give out homework problem to do.And for the discussion, if you can use slides to explain different chapter as we move on,that's fine.This way i believe u can engage more people in class.
I'm in this class right now Teaching is awful.Since day 1 weiss has put people to sleep.He gives random graphs and I still don't understand how it's relevant to microeconomics.He talked about logs and fish for 3 classes and I don't know why.Unless you want to take this class for naptime, I suggest you go to a different teacher if you want to learn
I am now taking his class, but OMG, I totally lost. I am really scared to fail this class. Do you know? Professor and recitation prof are both bad..What should I do. His grading makes no sense and gives incentive to tank the first exam since if you do better on the second he discards the first, otherwise he averages them. Lectures consist of drawing graphs while he talks about them and makes stupid jokes. Not recommended unless you're good at studying material on your own.

If you want to maintain your GPA or raise it DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR, seriously. It's difficult to follow him in class and you'll have to teach yourself most of the material before the exam.

The class is big so do not expect to get individual attention. He moves fast so there is hardly time to take notes. If you want to do well, read the text and practice the questions posted to blackboard by assistant. Start studying early as you only havve a midterm and a final so if you mess up, you are doomed. No extra credit.

Funny guy but after being in his class you feel like you are watching blues clues form all the pictures he draws. I do not recommend him, when you teach a lecture hall you need to be as clear as possible.

He is not of help for the midterm or final. Maybe 2 questions were from his lecture. This is how he grades: if Mid<Final, Final is the grade. If Mid>final, average of M and F is the grade. I managed to teach myself everything I needed to know in 12hrs and got an A- in midterm and A in final, don't take him if ur not willing to read n teach urself
this is a self-teach class. you don't need to go (except to get points for attendance). if you sit on ur laptop, he won't notice/care. you don't even need to pay attention. for the exams (2) read the textbook and do the practice problems. that's what i did and i got an A. easily. it's one of those classes you dont need to worry about. it's great.
I hate this professor. He doesn't know how to teach at all. I am currently in his class and I just took the hardest mid-term ever and got a D on it and I studied for four hours straight. Unfortunately I registered late for classes and got stuck in the worst class ever. I think I'm going to fail. Does anyone know whether he's failed someone before?

I had to take prof weiss since all the other prof were taken and reading all the bad reviews made me dread this class. but after this semester I realize he's actually a great professor his exam can't get any easier. there's half of the class missed after mid-term, because his exam is hard and give a little bit curve. he has 2 exam. he doesn't care the grade you got on mid term. The Final grade is your semester grade! Class is so boring and he always cancel the class by no notice.

The worst professor in the Economics Department. He lacks good teaching skills and is extremely disorganized. I do not understand why Baruch continues to keep professors like him around, if he simply doesn't know how to teach. He bragged the first day of class that Baruch can't fire him because he has tenure- horrible attitude Prof. Weiss!
His lectures are useless, boring, and incomprehensible. But attendance is not mandatory. Your grade is 50% midterm, 50% final, or 100% final if grade is higher than the midterm. Both tests are hard, but its possible to wing it with a C or a B without studying if you're not completely clueless to economics. Otherwise read the book and practice.
Two exams(midterm and final) only two questions each exam, no HW, does not take attendance...He decided that class average B+.....easy A if you take note in class
This professor is Super boring and put you to sleep. U You have to read the text book and teach yourself because he goes off on tangents and doesn't know how to teach. really enjoyed this class and the professor is top notch. Not an easy class, but i worked really hard - Prof Weiss met me several times to review the material and it made a huge difference in my understanding. Go to class, work hard and you'll learn.

I took this class and now have a clearer understanding about how Ecomies work. Class was hard but the prof was clear, very helpful ( and explained a topic for over an hour with me in his office) . I love this professor. I don't know why people say he was hard. You need to read the textbook thought like any other class, but if you need any extra help he is always in his office. I would recommend this class. It wasn't as difficult as others say.
Don't know how this professor gets good ratings. Spends half the time talking about his personal life, the other half is the course work. Yes, if you like reading a textbook and want to depend on it for his test, by all means take him. Midterm wasn't that bad but choices weren't clear. Doesn't respond to email sent to him for whatever reason.

One day on a train a Baruch graduate noticed I was studying a paper with Weiss's name on it. He turned to me and said "worst class I've ever taken & only C I've ever gotten". Pretty much sums up this guy and his class. Brags all the time. Constantly whines. And does a poor job teaching an otherwise interesting course. No point in taking this class
Prof Weiss's insights into current events is brilliant. Loved this class. I felt I was taught so many new ideas and concepts that I would recommend him to a student who really wants to LEARN. Top notch professor
Midterm & Final (that is literally what your grade is based on)- lectures are pointless because he doesn't teach anything, attendance is not required to pass. Just study from the book on your own and do well on midterm and final.

Love this guy! He plays current music before class which is awesome, he weaves stories and material into class which makes Econ really understandable and relevant to every day life.
He is bearable for Microeconomics but do not take him for Macroeconomics. He teaches the course in his own way which makes it incredibly difficult to find help on the internet or from tutors. This works for Micro when the textbook is sufficient for the tests but in his Macro class the textbook does little to help. I would avoid him if possible.
Prof. Weiss is different. If you read textbook before you go to class, all he is talking about will make sense. His examples are from real life. He is sarcastic, but friendly. Overall I like his class. It is not an easy A though. His jokes are not terrible as someone said. Younger students just don't get it which is ok, they will at some point
Nobody can make an intro class more convoluted and confusing than Professor Weiss. He is a truly terrible professor.
Easily among the worst classes I've taken at Baruch so far. Attendance not mandatory, which is good, because the lectures rarely have anything to do with the topics on the tests. Read the book and hope you understand the topics, because the lectures won't do more than scratch the surface before he veers off onto some other unrelated topic.
This guy is seriously one of the worst professors I have encountered at Baruch. He only teaches for about 10 minutes of the 75 minute class. He doesnt take the class seriously and is very rude to students. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
Got a B in this class, not bad considering it was self taught from the book. Would have been an easy A if we had spent more than a couple classes going over material that would show up on the final. Instead we got to hear about his daughter summer vacation and the economics of drug dealers. At Baruch you truly pay for your grade.
This guy is pretty smart i wont take that away from him, but every class is one big blur. Its as if he is tired of teaching. Notes on the board are not readable. Makes no reference to the book or what you should be reading. I no more about his personal life than about economics. If you want to learn don't take him.

Literally don't need to go to class. If you get the notes from someone, and just read the textbook chapter main points, you literally don't have to show up once, I honestly went to one class, got an A.

his class was so confusing and the textbook wasnt relevant to the class notes. attendance was not mandatory but his class was disorganized. one midterm and a cumulative final. we were allowed to have a cheat sheet/formula sheet duringv the exams.
I seriously don't know how it is even possible to get a grade lower than B in his class(B- in the worst case scenario). The class is challenging, but he allows to use formula sheet on the exam. Just copy what he writes, and make extra notes. I read 1 chapter from the book, read extra material on Blackboard (not more than 20 -25 pages) and did well

I have no idea what he was trying to teach us. I tried hard in his class to understand everything but he made it soooo much harder than it needed to be. His tests are impossible and he's extremely arrogant. But he's very knowledgable and funny.

He definitely has a personality, but he's a tough professor. Lectures are filled with stories and anecdotes, but there is actually a great deal of material buried underneath all that. To succeed in the class you need to show up and take notes! And even so, you're not guaranteed to get it all. Tests are hard: trick questions, allnone of the above..
Not very helpful in class but hides it with an interesting personality. I suggest you go to class everyday and take notes on whatever he says because that is what the two test are on.
Easiest class if you study the textbook. He usually rambles in lecture but you don't have to show up. Just swipe in and leave and then self study. Homework is online on Aplia which are easy if you just go over the textbook. One midterm, one final. Both are multiple choice and very easy if you, once again, just read the textbook.
Nice guy, his teaching methods are tough. But he really gives us a good chance to get a good grade in the class even if you started out poorly and I have a lot of respect for that. Good professor and nice guy overall. More of a realist than an optimist.
