she keeps you interested with her stories about sex !
easiest teacher at MU in mho, tests exactly from class, class is fun 2
very easy. very funny. talks more about sex than philosophy
easy professor! use the study guides!
funny and great proffessor. participating in class earns you mucho points!

She's ok. I don't think she's as good as everyone makes her out to be. She's decent, that's all.
She is interesting and really cool. She curses and treats students as equals, and her film class is like the best class at MU.
she is way too cool
One of the best classes! Good prof but tries too hard to be one of the students (language, personal stories). Liked her though! Actually learned some useful stuff!
she is irritating and can't pronounce words
She is great. You watch movies and she lets you leave really early. Tests are also the easiest ever!
Very easy classes as long as you have the study guides. Had her for all classes...got all A's...went to each class every other week!
Very bad handwriting, easy to embarass, boring as bells discussions. Awesome text: 20 Questions. I read it when I don't even have to.
Class is interesting, discussions get a little weird especially when she mentions her sex life or personal experiences, but it makes class funny and helps me stay awake. Gives a good study guide for tests, if you know the guide you'll get an A.
Very funny. It's odd when she talks about her sex life. Don't think she liked me too much. She would stare at me, seriously. Other than that, easy tests, didn't even have to study. Learned a lot, and actually retained the info.
enjoyed her class, she talks about her boyfriends and it's pretty funny, study for the tests, follow the syllabus and you'll get an A
I had her this semster and she was awesome, plain and simple. Too bad she has a boyfriend... ;)

enjoyed her class, and i learned a lot from it because of the low pressure and stress level. she didnt expect too much from us. just study the study guides before every test and you'll be absolutly fine. take this class.
funny, easy to follow, short but confusing tests. i'd take her classes again if i wasn't transferring. and if i liked philosophy
Jen Miller is rad! If you're even halfway intelligent, you'll love her class. The discussions are great, she involves everyone, uses progressive teaching methods...take her class!!
Funny as hell, easy-going, relates with the students, open to pretty much everyone's opinion. Easy grader too.
A must take class shes an easy grader and the class is awesome. Watched some great films and the discussions were great. bring some intelligence because you'll prob need it. But easy A
Funniest class incident ever: talking about religion and she draws a stick figure of "God" and she then proceeds to put a "couch and two chairs" on the stick figure and says "we know that god is a boy" unreal.
Best prof at MU! She is hysterical and the nicest person I know. Is totally sarcastic about the stuff she teaches and talks about her cat - cracks me up! Advice: When she gives you the review sheet, DO IT! you will ace the test & write down her thoughts on readings, helps on take home essay.
best teacher i have EVER had at MU, she's hilarious, and i have her for a 3 hr. class, we always get out early. she includes everyone in the most amazing class discussions i have ever had plus she's pretty cute :-P, and i actually look forward to going to her class! TAKE THIS CLASS WITH MILLER
She is really funny, which makes learning interesting. I did learn, but I like discussion which fits in great with this class. Sometimes, T.M.I. on the cat, Oregon, etc.
AWESOME TEACHER!!! I had her 3 hour class (6-9), and we never got out later than 8:30 because she had things at home. She's hilarious and I actually enjoyed going to this class. The time just flew by.
she is great. she gives you study questions for each test that will get you an A+ if you answer all of them. my final grade for the class was 100%! and it wasn't just easy jusnk... i actually learned something. highly recommend.
Sh puts on a video and leaves the room half the time. Another 25% of classes she cancels. About 20% of classes she gives hand outs and leaves for about 45 mins. The remainder of the time she teaches which she is excellent at. If you don't like to put up with professors, this one is for you.
amazing teacher, very understandable. pretty hot
fun class
She's just okay. Few professors could get away with what she gets away with. Reading and testing on Marx in an Asian Philosophy class, but no mention of Mao? Not a hint of Shinto, but time to watch Harold & Maude? Also insults her students by putting down their religions. But hey, she's hot, right, so she gets away with it. Oh brother.
Got "A's" in all classes. Read the material and you will do fine. There is something about her thats hot. You would be crazy not to take her class. I learned a lot. Work load can be large at times, but I would still take her. Read and get an A.
she's awesome
Wow, I think I'm in love. Intelligent, outspoken, pretty and very easy to get along with. Everything I look for in a philosophy professor. Take every class she offers.
I must've missed something, somebody said that she was hot? Roight. She's not that spectacular but compared to the other profs in this dept she's probably the best, second to Smith. An easy A or B, but she does allow discussion unlike that grouch Dr. Allen.
great class take it
this woman is everything a college professor is suppose to be. tests were easy and she gives out a study guide before hand so missing class isn't a huge deal. i actually enjoyed being in her class. ive had lots of college professors but she's my favorite.
It wasn't a bad class, you should go to all classes and take good notes, she tells you what is EXACTLY on the tests. All three tests are the same, just different material. Just go to class(she always lets you out early)and take good notes! Plus do the review sheet, thats what will be on the test! She is great teacher, just what you want for college!
Great prof! All the discussions were really interesting. Speak up! Participation points really help your grade. She gives out a study guide before the exam that really helps you. 25% of your exam a take home essay that you bring the day of the test. Just go to class, participate a little & attempt to do the study guides and this class is an easy A
AMAZING WOMAN! AMAZING CLASS DISCUSSIONS! NO SUBJECT IS TABOO! NOT A PHILOSOPHY MAJOR AND SHE'S STILL MY FAVORITE PROFESSOR AT MU. Just make sure you make yourself known in class and you will get an A
Dr. Miller is great, her class discussions really get everyone involoved and get you thinking. I learned so much in her class and loved going every week. Definitely take her if you can!

Dr. Miller is my favorite teacher!! she is so nice and funny...just participate in her class and you will have NOOO problems! i highly suggest you take her class!!
Best. Professor. Ever. Interesting, funny, this particular class was tough, but totally worth taking. She's rad.
Going into the class I thought it was going to be really morbid but it really wasn't. She was really interesting and funny, she relates the subject to her own life and it was just a really fun class. Shes awesome.
Oriential Philosophy was awesome! She taught a lot of interesting information. LIkes when people participate and try hard, really helpes your grade. Exams are not too bad, the short essay questions are basically just the big subjects discussed in class. One of a kind professor, take her if you can!
Dr. Miller chewed me up and spit me out. Her exams are partial take home essay, and in class essay. I said something about bhuddism in my paper and I think I must have offendeded her. Stopped going after my 35% on the 1st test, talked to her outside class and got a "Z". Screw philosophy! Classes CAN be interesting but rely on participation.
I started off the semester failing and ended up with an A. The material is hard but it gets easyier as you go along. Her tests are difficult, but as long as you give it your all, you will be rewarded. If you have never taken a philosophy class before I would take it with her.
Jen Miller is an awesome Professor. She is hilarious and keeps you entertained, even through the 3 hour classes. Has great stories, and will help you out if you have any questions about the material. Highly recommended for anyone taking intro to philosophy.
Asian Philosophy w/ Jen Miller was pretty fun. Shows lots of movies, dropped a couple low test scores. She does a study session right before exams in her office and gives away all the answers to the tests. Books help out with the essays, but I never read any of them except for what she mentioned in class. take her if you can!
Amazing teacher. She definitely knows alot about what she is teaching and is willing to help whoever. My favourite teacher thusfar and makes me think of philosophy as a minor. She just kinda makes you more interested than you'd think you would be.
Film class was interesting and easy. Prof was a little detached, but I think that had to do with this being a summer class. She was good overall.
She is awesome at explaining the drab world of Philosophy. The prompts that she uses to initiate discussion allow everyone to get involved. She thrives off of participation. Shows great films to apply the material. Quite possibly the most laid back and down to earth prof that I have ever taken here. I'm REALLY hoping to have another class with her
By far the worst professor I've ever had in my life, actually made me decide to transfer to a better quality college. Never even taught about philosophy, just rambled about nothing and listened to the bunny trails that she encouraged the retards in our class to take. An absolute waste of time and money.
Enjoyable class. She's pleasant to look at.
Took philo in film in the evening class and thought it was great. watched a film or several lengthy clips each class and then discussed. tests were in class mult choice/fill in blank and another half take home essay. Grades very easy if you were in class. If taking class i reccommend you have some intrest in philo, not just watching movies...
This class wasn't what I expected it to be. We spent most of the class talking about Buddhism only. We didn't really learn about the philosophies, we more so analyzed pieces of writing & tried to understand through it's context. I would recommend this class though! Nice professor!
I took Dr. Miller for my philos. of film class, and it was a very laid back class. She is a very outgoing individual, which makes discussing philosophy fun. Just show up to class and talk about the movies and you will be fine. I would recommend her for any philos. class though, because she makes it exciting and fun.
Very laid-back and especially hilarious. Encouraged discussion and showed us 3 films throughout the semester that were relevant. Tests were of medium difficulty, but she gives out study guides before each test which tell you all you need to know! Take her!
Great Teacher. Makes you think, watched some movies, and attended a mediation for xtra credit. Gives 4 test and hand out on whats covered. Take her.
She's so cool, class discussion is stimulating and she's very easy to talk to. She'll never tell you that an answer you give in class is wrong. She's funny too. She gives you an all inclusive study guide a few weeks before the exam that has EVERYTHING. But, beware, if you don't study that sheet you will most likely fail the test!
Dr. Jen is just awesome! you will be crazzzzy not to love her. Respects students, she is funny, very clear when she is teaching and humble at the same time. She is not mean in grading either. Can't beat that! Best Prof. on Campus!
Tests were a little on the hard side, but she's a great professor and make class fun.
Topics of discussion were very interesting and fun. Tests are moderately difficult but she drops the lowest test score. She gives two extra credits which can boost your grade. Good class, I'd say take it if you can!
Had her for a 6-9 class and she keeps the discussion interesting and is pretty funny. The tests aren't too difficult- as long as you study and utilize the study guides. Buy an older edition of the book if possible- (not used that often) I would definitely recommend her for intro to philosophy.
Total waste of time academically. Not challenging. Just for fun. Spent most of the time watching films.
She was a rude prof. She critized students opionions. She doesn't help her students at all. There are only 4 exams and the worst grade gets dropped. Just study your notes and you'll do fine. But overall she's a pretty easy teacher. Should take her if you don't mind her rudeness.
Overall a very disappointing class. Sure we talked a lot about love and sex, but of course it was all philosophical. She didn't really teach. We did group work all semester and watched borderline xxx movies. High use of textbook and there is a novel to read towards end of semester. Gives extra credit kitsch project at end of semester.
Had the 6-9 class which gets kind of boring after a while. She tries to keep it interesting by cussing and basically saying anything its really funny. Just study the notes from class and utilize her study guides. All test questions are straight from the study guide. The book isn't needed at all, don't waste your money.
The course did not teach me a thing. All we did was watch terrible movies (most the time, sometimes there were some good ones). She should've put V For Vendetta or something relevant if you want a controversial film. Her tests were difficult, even after doing her study guides.
All we did was watch terrible movies (most the time, sometimes there were some good ones). She should've put V For Vendetta or something relevant if you want a controversial film. Her tests were difficult, even after doing her study guides.
Shes pretty funny and easy if you pay attention and not bad to listen to. She's insightful and open minded and not a bad teacher what-so-ever. I would definitely recommend taking a class with her. I went the whole course without using the textbook and still aced the class with little effort. Nothing bad, her study guides spell out the exams too.
Dr. Miller is a great professor. It is an easy class if you read the parts in the textbook, answer the group questions, and study the review sheets she gives a week in advance of the test. She goes over all the answers to the group questions and gives hints to what is on exams. You also get to watch movies like Brokeback Mountain and Chasing Amy.
Classes are very discussion-oriented, so if you don't do the small readings you might feel a bit lost. Very helpful both in and out of class and is very clear about what will be on the exams (she provides study guides). Is partial to those who participate. Really knows her stuff.
She literally doesn't teach at all. She turns on a horrible movie, leaves, then 2 hours later she comes in before the credits begin to roll. She hands out study questions that go along with the movie and she goes over it at the beginning of every class. She is a nut job and just seems insane This feels like a mean review but seriously, stay away.
Very easy A and test study guides like exams. Poor quality professor and poor teacher. Awful discussion facilitator who insulted students that disagreed with her views. Read the books aloud to students in class and played awful/ irrelevant movies. Some readings, such as the Buddhist meditation book, didn't really apply to a phil class on death.
Dr. Miller is awesome. She plays many fun and interesting philosophical films. This is my second class with her. Just study off the study guide and movie sheets and you can easily get an A in her class. I wish I was not graduating so that I could take Asian Philosophy and Philosophy of Art with her.
She is the embodiment of what professors should be at an University. While her tests are repetitive in other courses (taken 5+ with her) her Art class is in class essay based and EASY in the sense that it is challenging, eye opening yet requires you only to READ the material. Just be open to the material. Enjoy Philosophy? TAKE HER.
Phil in Film: If you study the passages in the textbooks, the PDF files that she sends, & the film review sheets, you will do well on her tests. She drops the lowest score out of 3 exams. The films are interesting, not bad! Participate in her class; she gives participation points at the end of the semester. Jen is a great, personable professor.
Professor Miller is zany, says what she wants, and is overall a cool teacher. She is NOT, however, a GOOD teacher. She'll explain a concept one way, and then the next she'll explain the same concept to be exactly the opposite of what she originally said, but both explanations show up on the tests. The tests are HARD, but she drops the lowest grade.
First, she is definitely entertaining.. she says what she wants with no filter, which makes for an interesting class. Although her Exams are very difficult and her study guides are unclear. Lots of reading that is hard to understand or pull away whatever it is she wants you to. Lowest Exam grade is dropped. She is a cool Professor, class is do-able
Friendly, honest person and willing to help. Seems like she's just over students trying for an easy A so DO. THE. READINGS. Your answers don't need to be 'right,' you only need to show you put some effort into it for a good grade.
Best Professor literally ever. She's super entertaining, has great insight, and her exams are fairly easy. Also she gives lots of extra credit opportunities. Would definitely recommend taking a class with her.
Lectures were very entertaining and she does a good job of applying the concepts to real world examples. Graded papers fairly difficultly, but tests were mostly straightforward. Also have a ton of extra credit opportunities. Very enjoyable professor and class.
Dr. Miller is great professor, because most of the class is just discussion on various philosophical topics. She can be a bit crazy at time and go on random tirades, she's overall a good teacher. Test are extremely easy, questions come straight from the handouts. Would highly recommend if you need an easy gen ed too boost your GPA.
Awesome professor and fairly easy class. Show up to class, pay attention, and participate in class discussion and you should get an A. Exams are fairly straightforward, hint, study guide test. Drops your lowest test score at the end. Gives a lot of extra credit assignments and will award bonus points for participation.
She is a laid back person and lectures can be interesting sometimes. But the study guides aren't really helpful on the exams. The exams are also pretty difficult. Lots of handouts and readings that don't seem to help on the exams. She shows a few films which are on the exams and that is actually helpful. Attending class is a must.
I took this as a night class once a week from 6-9. It was okay but got boring after awhile. She tried making it interesting but cursed and made a lot of jokes and went of on tangents about random stuff- mainly her exes or family. While it made class interesting it took away from the material making the tests fairly difficult
Very unorthodox professor, she's hilarious and very smart. Filling out the provided study guides will help you pass.
Hilarious!
Really good professor just go to class and pay attention and youll have an easy a
Great professor had her for PHIL100 and liked her enough to take 327 with her. She basically gives you the answers to the test with her study guides and she's very personable and smart
Nice person, but not always receptive to criticism which can make discussions in class a little one-sided.
Dr. Miller was a very entertaining professor. The material was not hard to learn if you go to class. Would definitely take this class again!
This is her online PHIL220 EXISTENTIALISM class. In the syllabus, grades are on discussions, with possible extra credit, and exams. But in the second half of the semester, she removed the discussions. So basically your final grade was decided on only 3 exams. The discussions helped for studying for exams and my grades suffered so much after that.
One of the best classes I've taken. Jen is great, she knows her stuff and communicates when plans change. The lectures are insightful and very informative while entertaining. You get to watch a few movies in class too, which is always a plus. Exams are pretty straightforward, if you go to class, you'll get a good grade. Attendance isn't graded.
I had Dr. Miller for intro to philosophy, and I loved her class so much that I took philosophy in film. She is a kind professor and person and is very understanding of different circumstances. Lectures are entertaining, and exams are taken almost exactly from the study guide. As long as you pay attention in class, you will do fine.
Extremely easy online class graded entirely on tests and essay exams that are open-note. Discussion posts are used for attendance and are informal. I was able to finish the entire week's worth of work in 30 minutes.
