Does not provide study guide. Not ridiculously hard if you're willing to bust your butt studying for exams. Basically just does powerpoints and that's it, could be a lot easier class but tests can cover so much information it takes to much time to be fully prepared. Recommend other teacher.
Dr. Cavazos does lecture a lot, but in a class of 500 that's really all she can do. She does a really good job of interacting with the students despite the fact that the class is large. All of the homework is done online.
Attendance is not really mandatory but you get points from clicker questions. Lectures are interesting and interactive.
Tests are difficult but it's fairly easy to achieve an A if you do all of the homework, application assignments, and research. Lectures are informative and interesting, she does a great job of interacting with students even in a class of 500.
Pretty easy A as long as you do online homework, research, go to class and the application assignments. Tests are pretty easy. She hardly ever covers all the material on tests because she wastes class times showing videos and pointless stuff. She makes the subject pretty easy to understand and tests are fairly easy if you pay attention.
I took psychology in high school and this was an easy class for me. The only thing is that you have to come to class to receive participation points from your clicker, and I never wanted to go. Her lectures seem to drag but overall she's a good teacher and is super friendly and helpful.
Not a fun class but so easy. Attendance isn't figured into your grade but she has clicker points that are figured into your grade and you cannot receive credit for answering them correctly without being in class.
Professor Cavazos is a fantastic teacher. She is not out to fail anybody. If you do all of your online homework/assignments, this will allow you to get an A. huge majority of her class is homework. Tests are difficult. You must memorize the book to get an A on her tests. Go to the quiz bowls that she hosts.
Dr. Cavazos is a pretty good professor. There is a lot of homework, including having to participate in research studies. Test are easy. She always sent out a review slideshow with questions before exams. Lectures are long, but you need to go to get clicker points, which are a part of your final grade.
This course is pretty easy, I studied the night before for every test and made either an A or B. Although you would think psychology is an interesting topic, Professor C made the lectures so boring... I fell asleep during every class. You would think well hey just don't go if it's so boring, right? But this class has clicker questions. YOU MUST GO.
You can learn everything you need to without going to class. But she does in-class questions that are a part of your grade. Attendance is mandatory for an A. Tests are pretty easy. Not too much homework. DON'T BUY THE BOOK! You will have to buy a LearnSmart account which will come with the book included! Overall, I enjoyed her.
Dr. C was great, and really clear about the amount of work that you need to put into the class. I recommend paying attention to the lectures, and go to the review sessions. A lot of the questions used in the quiz bowls are on the tests.
Her lectures don't cover all the material on the test. But if you go to action tutoring then you should be good to go. you can make pretty bad grades on the tests and still get a B or possibly an A overall because of all the assignments she puts into the grad book. Make sure you go to class for the clicker questions!
Cavazos was a really engaging lecturer and made the lectures interactive using clicker questions, which helped to reinforce ideas and encourage attendance. Lectures were great as they provided the majority of the content expected and made it clear what would be expected and most important. Online HW was also very helpful for preparing for tests.
Go to the review sessions before the test and you will be fine. Dr. C is a great lecturer and keeps things interesting.
Dr. C is a good professor. She goes through a lot of information in class and there is a lot to study for when it comes to the tests. The class overall is not to hard but the tests are.
Dr. C has a very sweet tone & pretty detailed lectures & slides. Theres hundreds of people in the class though making the grading confusing because she has several TA's & they all grade differently. Go to class to get the clicker points. Go to the reviews before the tests.
I do not recommend this class to anyone. She assigns so many assignments throughout the semester on top of regular homework and testing, and no busy work at all. You have to do well on the assignments. This class is expensive because you have to buy a top hat account and a connect code/book. Class was very boring. She will not round grades also.
Dr. Cavazos is very friendly and accessible. She has interesting lectures and her class is quite easy for me. Her class is definitely my favorite of the 5 classes I'm taking this semester.
Interesting powerpoints and uses many examples in class to further your learning.
Dr. Cavazos is dependent heavily on lectures during her class. If you don't attend then you will have a hard time doing well. She posts her lectures, but also goes over vital information in class! The tests are moderately difficult and the work load is fair. You can get an A if you do the work and pay attention!
Funny
She was a great teacher. You have to do your homework to pass, but all in all it was pretty easy.
She is an average professor. Her lectures aren't very helpful since all the material is in the textbook and easy to understand. Her tests are not hard either, a lot of it is either common sense or just break down the meaning of a word. You don't have to show up to class to get an A.
Dr. C gives amazing lectures and will keep you interested, however there is often information on tests that she didn't cover in class. Reading the textbook and keeping up with the tedious Connect assignments is pretty important to make a good grade in the class. Overall, the class is pretty easy and tests are, for the most part, common sense.
I took her for a 475 person gen-ed class, and she was a very effective lecturer. The subject matter was interesting and the homework load was reasonable. Many people skipped lectures and still ended up with A's (not to encourage this - the lectures are genuinely worth attending).
Do not take this teacher. Hands out 0s when it wasnt even your fault. Class was easy but would recommend another teacher, Know of several instances when a student shouldve gotten an A but got a B because of something that wasnt their fault.
This class is very easy, especially if you've taken psychology before. If you go to class you don't need to read, but you do need to purchase the online book to do the assignments. There's also a good amount of extra credit so take advantage of it. All the tests are multiple choice and are not hard at all.
Dr. C does a good job with lectures. She encourages class discussions even with big class. There is quite a bit of homework in the class but it is very easy and doable. If you pay attention in class it is an easy course.
Dr. C is an amazing professor with great lectures. She shows many relevant videos and gives examples of the discussed information. Though it is a large class, Dr. C still allows for discussion, and is easily accessible outside of class. It is a homework heavy class, but if you pay attention in lectures, reading really isn't too necessary. Easy A.
She is such a great instructor and really cares about her students. There is some online work but it is actually fun most of the time.
If you go to class and do the homework, you will do well. She is super sweet and really does a great job of helping you understand the material.
amazing professor
She makes lectures interesting and fun, and encourages discussion and questions. Extra credit is offered through the sona research credits. There's a decent amount of homework and there's also the application assignments which aren't too hard. I would recommend this class
The class itself was sort of useless and uninteresting, but Mrs. C really tried. She may have taken it a bit too seriously for a gen ed class, but she threw in enough jokes and interesting concepts that it was alright. Props to her for that.
Loved her class. She is a great professor. Truly cares about her students and wants them to succeed. I always felt very prepared for tests. Participation is recommended. 10/10 recommend
She teaches a 500 person lecture like it is a 20 person class which just does not work. She also makes you take attendance for a 500 person class which again is very annoying and if you don't do the questions it is the difference in a letter grade.
Even though she has enormous gen-ed classes, if you are having any kind of problem she is very willing to personally help however she can. Knows her stuff very well.
Very easy class. Uses tophat and questions for credit are only visible when you are in class so you can't log in and answer from home. Provides a kahoot for each exam that basically is the exam. Connect and Learnsmart for each chapter. Three application assignments are easy. If you do one extra SONA study you get 10 bonus points. Tests are not hard
I love love love Dr. C. She is super sweet and incredibly smart. You do have to show up for class, and you'll need a clicker. You will do fine if you study the slides and do the reading. If your struggling, a trip to her office hours can save your life (and your grade).
Dr. C is so laid-back but in the best, most respectable way. She was very helping when I went to see her in her office hours, and was playing lil wayne on her speakers. She teaches in a very detailed manner, but has great examples and makes the content easy to learn and understand. There is a lot of work, but it is manageable.
Class with Dr. C was like a typical gen-ed. Attendance was not mandatory, but the daily Tophat questions can make or break a grade. There were Kahoot sessions before each exam and there would be questions taken straight off them. Lectures were long but were filled with some interesting information. USE each opportunity for extra credit.
Homework heavy- easy but time-consuming. 3 "application assignments" that are worth a lot of points but are pretty pointless in real life. Anyways she's a very considerate and fair person when it comes to her students and grades. Very sweet and caring. Lots of in-class pts so come to class. Pretty easy class if you just keep up with the material
Missing the lectures will deplete your grade. If you arent a morning person, dont sign up for the 9am. You will be tempted to skip the 500+ people class. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT
I loved Dr. C. Her criteria was exceptionally clear, and her lectures are interesting and fun. Instead of papers you have 3 small projects which do not take much time at all. Attendance is graded through in-class questions, but as long as you study for 1-2hrs per exam you'll be fine. I would definitely take her again.
Lectures most of the time, includes videos once in a while, and if you go to class and pay attention youll do fine on test.
Pretty engaging lectures, you absolutely have to attend. Do the homework, do a minimal amount of studying and definitely do extra credit. Also, please participate in class, she gets irritated when no one does. All in all, it's probably one of the easier courses you'll take at OU.
Professor Cavazos was one of my favorite instructors and made me love my major even more. Just dont chat in class and do participate and youll have an easy time.
Dr. Cavazos is such a mom (in the best way possible). Do the homework and your app assignments and show up to lecture (it's part of your grade). She presents insightful and often hilarious videos to enhance her lectures. She even offers Kahoot game nights to review for the tests. Super accessible, great GAs/TAs and an easy A if you just do the work
One of the best professors I have had so far! Her lecture are really interesting, and she offers fun ways to help you learn the material. Be sure to go to class and go to action tutoring to get the chapter study guides (they help A LOT)
Easy A if you show up to class and do the work. She keeps class interesting and enjoyable. One of my favorite professors at OU.
Amazing teacher! Attend lectures, they count for a lot more than youd think. Online assignments can be a bit much, but finish them as the class progresses and youll do great.
Taking PSY1113 with Dr. C was the best decision I made this semester. She's a great person, her lectures are actually interesting, and she cares for her students. If you have any questions she's always willing to answer them, and her action centers are really useful. Her slides/notes are great, just make sure to come to class to get an A.
Overall I love her class, Cavazos is amazing on teaching. Although, Im not a fan of big classes like hers because its less personal. She gives extra credit all over the course (trust youll need it). Theres lots of work involve in this class, do it on time. Dont skip class, she gives class points over questions in TopHat. Test arent so easy.
This class is nothing more than your generic lower gen. ed. The workload is a bit above average when it comes to an entry level course like this, but she is understanding in some sense. Tests are worth about 40%, and if you're absolute trash at taking multiple choice tests, then you're out of luck on an A. There are no curves. :(
Dr. C clearly knows the subject matter. The lectures are engaging. There is quite a bit of homework, mostly time-consuming, not necessarily hard. Show up to class, keep up on the homework, and study before exams and you should get an easy A.
Shes funny and makes the long lectures less boring, but very hard to catch outside of class.
Graduating next semester as a math major and chemistry minor and this is the only class I have gotten a B in. Would've gotten an A but "submitted my application assignment in the wrong format" and got 50% taken off of it, bumping me down to an 88.
Hard to get in touch with outside of class, but shes very funny. Homework for this class can take about an hr and is due on fridays! All powerpoints are uploaded online (use them for studying)
Dr. C is a great professor. she keeps her lectures interesting and understands that most students that take this class aren't psych majors, so she makes it pretty easy to get a decent grade.
She's such a good teacher and you can tell that she's passionate about psychology. Definitely take her if you can!!
She's really good at explaining concepts. There is just a lot to memorize and apply to real life situations. The TopHat tests are the hardest, you have to make sure you really know the terms and know how to apply them to real life situations.
Dr.C is wonderful. There is a lot of work but its not very hard. Take the opportunities for extra credit & keep up on assignments! Attendance isnt required but you are grades on participation via TopHat so show up. The TAs are helpful. Grading is fair and clear. Dr.C does her best with dry material & provides strategies for taking it all in.
Dr. C is amazing. I fell in love with psychology because of her. She gives wonderful lectures and the tests are almost exclusively the lecture notes. She has a system that highlights the important info for you in the textbook to save you time which is wonderful. A little heavier than normal amount of homework, but not bad. Do the extra credit!!!
Her class is very interesting and she always tries to interact with the class as much as possible in her lectures. The tests are a bit difficult if you don't understand how to apply stuff to examples. Furthermore, there is a bit of workload but she gives you plenty of time to do it so don't procrastinate because they're big projects.
Dr. Cavazos' Intro to Psychology class was interesting and she is excellent at explaining things. This class had about 450 students in it so you choose to interact with her if you want to. There are plenty of ways to make a good grade in this class even if you don't do amazing on the tests. You should do well as long as you keep up with he work.
Dr. C is incredibly knowledgable, kind, and invested in the success of her students. The class is interesting, whether or not you are majoring in psychology. There are Kahoot Study Sessions before each exam, however, they do NOT 100% prepare you for the exam itself. There are lots of assignments, homework, and extra credit involved in this class.
Connect HW- easy Research Exposure- not time consuming at all (esp if you do online surveys) 4 Cumulative Exams- easy if studied a bit before (HIGHLY recommend going to Action Tutoring for chapter packets) Attendance- mandatory for participation points but participation isn't a large part of the final grade so it doesn't hurt to skip occasionally
Easy class if you do the assignments and extra credits, exam reviews are given and really help. Lots of material but if you study it you can pass the exams.
Dr. C is AMAZING. She is a gem, cares so much for her students and is always excited to show up to class and share her knowledge of psychology. She was a great professor to have during my freshman year because I knew if I ever needed assistance, she would be more than willing to help. She is lecture heavy, but by using TopHat, she makes it fun!!
Dr. C is my favorite professor I've had so far at OU. Even though the class had over 500 students, she still kept a good atmosphere that made it not seem so big. The lectures are always very interesting and the homework is easy. The tests are a little difficult, but study hard and it's an easy A.
Lectures are super interesting and she does an excellent job of making the information fun and she fully understands that the course is a gen ed requirement and teaches accordingly.
Dr. C has been the best professor I've had at OU! She makes lectures interesting and she is very funny! She really wants to make sure you know the material for the exams. I would take her class again anyday. She is so sweet and I was always excited to go to her classes. Take the extra credit opprotunities, they will help a lot!
Cavazos has amazing lectures but you have to go because she has in class questions for credit. Lots of homework but i liked it because it makes the tests not matter as much. The tests are ALL application questions and they're hard. you have to study A LOT. Besides that, interesting class but i would have rather taken an easier teacher.
Dr. C is SO FUNNY! Shes very likable and extremely helpful if you need it. Her examples make topics easier to understand and the way she teaches her class is engaging and fun. Youll never be bored in her class.
There is a lot of work through Connect every week and it can be tedious to read. The tests are ALL application so you have to know practically everything if you even want to have hope for an A. It feels like the things she lectured over didn't help that much on the exams so focus on the textbook.
all around great professor. the tests are all application so if you dont know the material and how to apply it to a situation, you wont do too great on the tests. lectures are interesting and she makes thing as fun as they could be. would definitely take her class again!!
Dr. C's class was by far my favorite over the semester. She keeps a professional environment with her TAs but is also very relaxed and open (and funny!). She uses TopHat for in-class participation points and also verifies attendance. All the tests are online and challenging! She offers plenty of extra credit so take advantage of it.
It is hard to teach to a class size of over 400 people and she does a great job. The powerpoints are usually available online after class so you can look over them later. She also incorporates questions and videos in her lectures to help students grasp the material. Lots of material but easy if you study it!
She explains the subjects really well, I suggest going to class even though attendance isnt part of your grade. If I skipped class, I probably wouldnt understand a lot of the information.
Fun, interesting lectures and assignments.
I was nervous for this class early in the semester since the class size was so big, but it was not as bad as I thought it was going to be. Lectures are mandatory because attendance is counted for. Lots of videos given during lecture that are very interesting. Make sure you do the extra credit!! It will save you at the end of semester.
Dr. C's. class was great. She made her lectures interesting with personal TopHat questions or videos pertaining to lecture. Definitely take advantage of all the extra credit and show up to class because attendance is taken and you'll miss TopHat questions if you skip.
This class was pretty simple if you go to class, pay attention, and do all the work assigned and the extra credit. It is kind of heavy on the work load for being a gen ed though. There is so much extra credit in this class, so don't worry if you slip up a little bit.
She is amazing! She will review the test with you and help you. She does have a lot of homework and in class questions but they are all easy if you pay attention & you do have to do experiments which take time (1-3 hrs) Everyone shows up to her lectures and she makes the class fun to go to and interesting. Test are situational based not definitions
Dr. Cavazos' lectures were always very engaging and is easy to talk to outside of class. As long as you do the homework and pay attention in class, you will most likely get an A while learning a lot about Psychology in the process.
This professor is straight up just not nice or understanding. Our packback website was down which is where we have our class discussions online. The site was down and blamed the students for not doing their work even though she admitted to seeing that it was the sites fault. Her grading system is WACK. Don't take a class with her as your professor.
despite being lecture heavy, was extremely interesting. It was difficult to keep up with the workload, and the tests were difficult as it is not really about memorizing terms but rather learning how to apply things you learn to examples. CHECK THE Syllabus! will not remind you of the Research credits and Application assignments until last minute!
Ridiculously hard and time consuming. Test are always cumulative, confusing, and hard. Study guides don't really help and are completely different from test. Lots of questions where there's 2 or 3 choices that could be right, so you basically just have to guess. Graded on tophat accuracy and attendance. Definitely suggest taking it online instead.
I really loved her class. She requires you to get TopHat and Packback which are a waste of money. If you understand her lectures and study those you will be fine on the test. She offers a ton of extra credit. Even with my mid B test grades, I was still able to get an A. The class has so much more than tests so even if you bad on them it will be ok.
Dr. C is a very nice and caring person. But trust me when I say that PSY1113 is a lot of work. You will have to spend a lot of time doing homework. The content is not difficult and Psychology is a fairly easy subject to learn and study. However, get ready for a workload that will be annoying to do.
Prof Cavazos makes psychology so much fun. The class is very interesting and you will be able to sit in class and actually learn. There are lots of grading opportunities so bad exam grades wont diminish your grade! Loved this class!
She is super kind and a really easy person to listen teach. Her format of the class makes it very easy to get participated in the class and the technology used is really helpful. Tests are long, difficult, and always cumulative. But, she made the class a lot more enjoyable that it was outside of class.
Surprisingly interesting class! The work was almost all very beneficial to my learning (besides one busy work assignment early on). The tests were fair. The class did not take up too much time.
The class material isn't hard, but the class is extremely annoying. Forces you to do way too much work for an intro class. be ready for a significant amount of homework and very little understanding if you have technical issues with the websites. She definitely needs to relax her workload for this class given most of it doesn't teach you anything.
This was by far the hardest and worst gen ed I have ever taken. She tracks you for attendance every single day (goes towards your grade) , there are pop quizzes frequently, lots of homework and assignments, and every test is cumulative. Would not recommend unless youre a psych major.
I took this class during COVID so it was all online. Lots of reading and taking notes (if you choose to take notes, I did, and it really helped me). Dr. Cavazos was a cool professor & is great at teaching material! She was always super kind and she always has office hours available with her or her TAs. Go to the study nights, they help!
I had to take this class online due to COVID but ever since the first weeks of school, she was always very accessible and kind, and willing to help. There is a lot of reading involved but It is very interesting material. Highly recommend taking classes with her
Interesting class, but way too much busywork. Every assignment felt pointless and didn't help me understand the concepts any more than I already had; a complete waste of my time. She grades incredibly hard and gives WAY too much work. The tests are cumulative, incredibly hard, and NOTHING like the review. Highly recommend a different professor.
Never take this class is not worth the money you will spend!! She thinks everyone is a psychology major. Exams are really hard. Application assignments are graded by someone not even by her and I dont even think they have the credentials to grade! If I knew I would have never wasted time for this class! Will just ruin your grade!
Dr. C is very energetic, which almost makes up for how boring Psychology lectures are. Connect assignments are unreasonably long and feel like a waste. Extra credit assignments occur frequently and are very helpful. TopHat is an excellent tool for in-class points, but PackBack is utterly useless. Tests poorly reflect the study material given.
This teacher is one of those that if you have any issue, then you better fix it yourself or with student affairs. I asked her about a grade from a midterm after no proper responses for weeks, she lowered my midterm grade more. After that she submitted me for academic integrity due to emailing her too much (once every 3-4 days) and failed me.
Super great professor. If you take good notes in class you will pass the exams with flying colors.
Dr. Cavazos is amazing at lectures. She has many students in one class so you will rarely go to her for issues. The class is very TA-heavy, which can be tricky because some are not as good as others. This class has a lot of work to be an entry-level class and honestly made me not enjoy psychology as much. Good professor, but not good class
If you're taking the class online, good luck. I did most of the course online with just the textbook and slides and managed pretty well, but when I started to attend lectures, they provided a bit more on top of the tophat readings for the exams. A lot of memorizations and application for exams. Each exam is also comprehensive, so don't purge after.
Very nice prof and really cares about your success.
I LOVE this professor. lectures are extremely interesting, and the use of TopHat in the course really made everything easy to learn and I actually had fun doing the TopHat work. the prof keeps you engaged in lectures and she is funny, she is also really caring, and the TA's are super helpful. highly recommend this class and professor
Dr. C was my favorite professor this semester! She is super relatable and her lectures are always engaging. There was a lot of homework, but it was always interesting and a lot like her lectures. Her tests are long and all are cumulative, but if you show up to lecture & take notes youll do great! Be careful who you choose as your TA though.
Dr. C is so good at lecturing and keeping students engaged. She has increased my interest in psychology by a great extent. The only thing is that the assignments are not graded by her and tend to be harsh, unclear grading methods. That said, the tests are a good representation of her in person lectures. Overall, Dr. C is a really great professor.
Shes really sweet and gives a lot of info thats really interesting, but I do not think she prepares you enough for the exams. The exams are all multiple choice, application based, and the possible answers usually all sound the same so its really hard to differentiate between the wrong answers and the correct ones.
I liked her lectures and the way she got the class involved during them. Knows her stuff well. I highly recommend.
She had great and interesting lectures that went over so much but it was all understandable. Homework is kind of a lot but doing it helps for test and remembering the content. She was very caring and insightful. If you plan on never missing class I wouldn't buy the packback subscription I got it and didn't use it once.
Super great class! Will be a big lecture full of tons if students, but there are TAs and GAs, so lots of opportunities to still be heard and helped. Office hours for Dr. C and the GAs are super accessible no matter your schedule and they are all so nice and genuinely ready to help. Easy homework and lots of extra credit opportunities. Loved it!
Passionate about the material, great way of incorporating homework into reading that forced students to learn something. Very clear and solid Syllabus. A very funny, nice, and relatable professor. She provided a lot of real life examples and had many ways of keeping students engaged. Loved her, highly recommend. Be careful with picking your TA...
The class is straightforward. Do your work, get good grades. Take good notes, since the tests are online. The grading is fair.
I never say the teacher the class was asynchronous but everything I needed was in the textbooks. Very easy and cookie-cutter class. Simple homework that is exactly like the test and easy projects. Do the work and you'll pass it's not hard at all.
Dr. Cavazos is so extremely sweet, caring, and her lectures are amazing! She explains everything so well and in such clear terms, and even if you do not pay much attention in lecture it's still easy to make an easy A.
Dr. Cavazos is an amazing professor, definitely take her if you can. She gives really great lectures and makes the concepts very easy to understand. She also offers extra credit. She does not give busy work, and she does not penalize you for missing class.
Even though this class is not mandatory there is still heavy lectures that I would suggest going to, the test are kind of hard everything is through top hat and you don't really study in class its all on reviews in top hat. Professor Cavazos is a good professor I just personally got bored a ton with listening to her the whole lecture
This professor is caring, easy to listen to in lecture, and the homework for this class is really helpful. If you don't attend class regularly it can be difficult to understand everything going on, but otherwise this professor does a great job at making the homework and lecture work together well.
Really didn't like this class, got nothing out of it and the grading system was awful, 95% of it was the student teacher grading our assignments and they were never consistent. I had to email them at least a dozen times to correct a grade and 9/10 times they never got back to me. The lectures also provided us little to no help on the tests.
made a second review just to say anyone who gave proff Cavasos a bad rating is tripping and literally did not try. It is actively harder to do badly in this class than good. Listening to lectures alone is a guaranteed high B and up on the exams. And the grading is straightforward so anyone complaining about it deserved their grade respectfully
Amazing lecturer and very well versed in her knowledge. Knows exactly what she's talking about and is extremely polite and caring. Very passionate about the subject. Do your tophat questions before class. It makes lectures so much easier. As long as you study with repetition(just a little every day), you'll definitely stay above 95 all semester
Everything is pretty straight forward and easy for the most part. Gives extra credit opportunities, lectures are interesting, and the majority of class work is done on top hat which is really easy to navigate. Attendance isnt required but there are participation makeup assignments. Good class overall.
Prof. C makes this class really enjoyable! TONS of extra credit opportunities and the lectures are very interactive/interesting. She is very passionate and knowledgeable about her class as well. There are lots of study resources and the homework/lectures already prepare you for exams well. This class was great and I highly recommend taking it.
Dr. C is awesome, attendance is not mandatory but the lectures are very useful for notes so I suggest going. The class is huge so make good friends with your TA so they can help if you need it. Exams are tough but if you study and take notes you will be ok!
Dr. Cavazos is a decent lecturer, but she focuses almost entirely on material that you just did homework over. It would be much more helpful if she gave the lectures, then assigned the homework. Regardless, the assignments are all quite trivial and the tests are open book/open internet. I would expect to receive an A in any of her courses.
Dr. Cavazos is very passionate in her lectures highly recommend her classes! It is a lot of homework and reading though, but if you attend lectures she goes over the key parts in reading making it more understandable! Tests very difficult though because she uses about 10-30 question relating to previous units! so make sure to study those!
Dr. Cavazos is a great professor and really easy to understand in lectures. She is energetic and engages with the class which keeps me awake. All of her content is through Top Hat which I liked a lot because all of your work is online and in one place. Go to lectures because of participation points and information you won't get outside of class.
She is absolutely amazing! Take her class!
She makes the class really fun. She is so sweet and tolerant. I love her.
Pros: The lectures are super intreresting. If you miss class, just do packback and you will recieve participation points. Dr. C is really nice. GA's are nice too. Cons: Lots of homework, not hard, but very tedious. TA's are terrible this semester. They grade terrible and most of the time they are wrong. Dr.C should work on getting different TA's.
Cavazos is an excellent professor, and really loves what she does. Because of how large the class is, your TA's will be your main go-to for questions and whatnot. Homework isn't too bad, and tests are all online and open note which is nice. Just showing up guarantees you at least a B.
Amazing Professor! Gives multiple extra credit opportunities. Attending the lecture and reading the weekly chapter should give you an easy A or B.
Class is super easy and interesting. There is a ton of outside work associated but it's mostly just busy work and not hard. Lots of extra credit given and all I ever did to study was look over the practice questions. When you get assigned the research credits make sure to do them early because they will fill up!
Definitely don't need to show up to class, entire class is on TopHat. She posts the questions that she asks in TopHat that day in "Chapter __ Slides" so it's easy to skip. Entire class is highly Googleable. Make sure you're doing studies throughout the semester because those will creep up on you.
She's a great professor. Giant lecture so participation matters. Tests are heavy, they are online though, which I guess it helps. Gives LOTS of extra credit opportunities. Pay attention to the application assignments - super important for your grade, I uploaded the wrong document (yeah stupid move) and my grade dropped from A to C.
I was skeptical about this class since it was large, but you are grouped with a TA and they help the class feel smaller and more personal. While this was my gen ed, Dr. C is very engaging and does her best to make jokes, even though the class is at 9am. Lectures are very similar to the textbook, so I would pick one or the other to pay attention to.
Dr.C was overall a really good professor! Her lectures were very engaging and she kept them interesting. The TA's do most of the grading throughout her class and it is sometimes inconsistent. If you listen to the lectures, take notes, and actually read the TopHat it is very difficult to do poorly in this class. Do the extra credit!!
I LOVE Dr. C! She is really organized and prepared for all the material you will go over. I will say there is a lot of assignments to do over the semester, but it's really to help your grade. there is often extra credit given, so I REALLY recommend you attend class! The material is really interesting, and the workload is not heavy.
When signing up for classes the first thing my advisor told me is that everyone raves about this professor. She is really is good but make sure you pick a good TA bc that can really make or break your grade. Overall class is very easy 100% would take again
My favorite class of the semester. I learned so much, everything was interesting to learn, and it wasn't hard. Lots of extra credit and weekly reading w/ questions for easy 100s. Exams were pretty easy if you pay attention to the weekly readings and study. They're also open note and open browser.
I took this over winter break and I don't recommend taking PSY1113 over the break unless you want to hate yourself. The things I learned were interesting but the workload I had in 4 weeks was insane.1 chapter a day (lots of reading and 75Qs+ per chapter), 1 paper & 1 exam per week were a lot for me especially because I also had to work.
She is such a really good teacher, however, the class is really hard, especially for a 1000-level class, however, DR. c does her best to try to explain the concept. Her classes are also really big so that can be stressful but she does a great job
Dr. C is very passionate about psychology and always made the lectures interesting! Her tests can tend to be difficult if you don't study, but if you do you'll do great.
This was the most fun and interesting class ever. Professor Cavazos is not only passionate about the subject she teaches, but also teaches the class in a fun way. My only complaint is that the TAs who do most of the grading are very harsh. One assignment brought my grade from an A to a C just because the TA didn't like my explanation of a topic.
Dr. C is a phenomenal teacher. Lectures are optional, but highly engaging, with TAs there to reinforce class material. She does take participation, so students who don't attend lecture need to make discussion posts. There are many required readings, but this material is easy and is the exact same as the tests, so there's value in doing them.
My favorite prof ever. She is amazing. The tests were relevant to the lectures and she is so interesting to listen to.
Loved Porf Cavazos. Make sure to pay attention in class, though, because it's had to grasp on your own but she makes it make sense in class. Homeworks are easy, tests are more theoretical situations than just what is this so be aware. Attendance isn't mandatory but you will have to make it up on another assignment that is due weekly so just go.
I love her, she is so fun and gives amazing lectures. They are pretty long, but they're informative even though they are pretty much the exact same as the TopHat assignments. This is one of the only classes I enjoy doing homework for, since there are lots of interesting topics. She is very understanding and an easy grader. I would take her again.
Least favorite part was that the GAs are very inconsistent and it is just a matter of luck.. Also her test are extremely hard and lectures are mandatory.
Lots of TopHat participation points. Had several big assignments throughout the class that required research and lots of time. Overall enjoyable class, and Jenel was very funny and a sweet lady.
She was super nice! It was obvious that she was very passionate about psychology, which made lectures interesting. Attendance is taken through tophat, but there's another platform where you can earn credit if you miss class. She had so much extra credit too.
I loved this professor, I took this for intro to psych. Because of Dr C it made me go into college majoring in psychology, amazing lectures, you get to pick your TA and the environment is overrall really cool. My TA's organized study nights and were very communicative. Everything is open note, but there is some reading to watch out for.
This class had a lot of work but was very interesting. Dr C makes the lectures fun to attend but if you miss you have to do packback which is a pain. There's a ton of assignments so a lot of opportunities to bring your grade up. If you take psych, take Dr C!
Dr. C was an amazing professor. She is very knowledgeable on what she teaches and although the class is huge she makes everyone seem involved and noticed. We used Tophat for almost everything so very important to get this as soon as you can. As long as you stay on top of your work you will be fine.
Very great 10/10.
If you're looking for a class with tons of busy work, most of which you can overcome with the mountain of extra credit, this is for you. If you like "sharing" in a room with 200 people, and inconsistent TA grading, this is for you. She seems most interested in being "liked" by students. If you want to learn... I'd take someone else.
One of the most enthusiastic professors I have had. You can tell she genuinely enjoys her job and is very helpful towards the students. Keep up with your work weekly and you seriously can not get a bad grade. All exams are open book making it super easy.
Great professor. The work is easy, but there is a ton of assignments you have to keep track of. Make sure you participate in all the studies required. She has a lot of extra credit which is nice.
The best moment of my week was with her!
Dr. C is awesome! She does in class tophat questions for attendance, but you can also do packback to get the participation points if you miss. Lectures are honestly super interesting and help a ton. Tests are open and online so just do the top hat readings and put effort into assignments and you'll be good!
She had such good lectures that I was okay with the fact that I had to wake up at 9AM every week. The TA system in her lectures are so helpful and she is a great speaker. Participation is a must & assignments aren't difficult, just time consuming. She makes psychology easy to understand and lectures heavy based on student assignment comments.
Class itself wasn't too hard, you can either go to class to get participation or use packback if you miss class. Professor Cavazos is very straightforward and pretty non-understanding when it comes to situations that arise with students. The TA system was nice though and they are more understanding to the students.
Dr. C was great! She does in class questions for attendance, or if you miss class you can answer questions online and still get credit for attendance . Lectures are simple and interesting just keep up with readings and work and you will be fine.
I LOVED Dr.C! She had such amazing lectures and was super entertaining and easy to understand. There is a decent amount of homework but it is very easy, and some of the application assignments are a little hard, they pay off in understanding the lecture material. This class was amazing, highly recommend!
Not attending results in loss of participation points. There is a program to purchase at extra cost to makeup missed point. Annoying assignments occasionally pop up that take excessive time, however the exams are easy and the material is not excessively complicated. Cavazos lectures on the exact same topics as the notes, so listening is redundant
Test are really hard... then tries to make up with busywork extra credit. Avoid
This class is really hard... its organized to be "fun" but then at the end... its not. Watch out...
Dr C had great lectures that made the class interesting and intriguing. Attendance is part of weekly participation, either attend or do the packback questions to receive points. Online tests with open note/book. Extra credit is given quite often. Would definitely take again!
You must attend to get "participation" grades handed out by an army of TA's and UG TA's. There's tons of busy work extra credit... but all in all a waste of my time
The exams are really hard. The extra credit help you... but its just super busy work... gets really old... its almost like this prof just wants you to do stuff all the time!
If you want to do well you must do the extra credit. The exams are hard and her lectures are basically just the notes. There's a ton of busy work.
Her class was great! You can tell she is passionate about psychology. The tests were fine and she gave many extra credit opportunities. Definitely recommend her!
Dr. C is extremely passionate about this course. Try taking notes during class. Attendance, homework and exams are done in TopHat. Should be an easy A, if you pay attention!
Great professor, the textbook is exactly the material you learn in class. Exams are online and not difficult, TA's are very helpful. Very passable class.
There is mountain of meaningless busywork extra credit that she offers. But you have to do it very much like you're back in H.S. Lectures are OK but you learning nothing new She uses UG to grade stuff too... and I see that as a problem.. that students my age with the same level of education I have... get to decide my grade. AVOID THIS CLASS
Dr. C is an amazing transitioning professor into college. She delegates a lot of busywork but it helped me learn more clearly about the subject. Her lectures are participation based and her TA's are very helpful. Personally, I very enjoyed having her as a freshman but I would not recommend if you don't enjoy a decent amount of homework.
Lots of busy work and I felt the exams were especially harder than what was taught. Attendance and extra credit are essential to getting a good final grade. What bothered me the most about this class was she did not offer time out of her class to take the exams but I would have to make time on either Sunday or Monday which was hard for me to do.
Bring a pillow because all you do is hear the same thing you just read. Its like being back in H.S....tons of extra credit...
I love Dr. Cavazos! Her lectures are interesting and the textbook we use for homework was basically written by her (it reads super easy). Definitely recommend her course :)
The class is easy - just submit everything before the due date. She gives lots of extra credit which raises your grade a lot. The exams are online. There is a lot of busy work but it ends up helping your grade if you do it. Uses TopHat as attendance so attendance is mandatory. She's very understanding too
Dr. C's class has a decent amount of busywork, but the lectures and TAs are helpful. Attendance and extra credit are essential for doing well. Unstuck study was a great study aid alongside the textbook.
Dr. C is AMAZING! She is super bubbly and gives great lectures. Attendance is mandatory but I find myself looking forward to her class. So many extra credit opportunities. The application assignments aren't hard they just take some time and same with exams were slightly difficult (but open note). super highly recommend!!
She has a good stage presence and works hard on her slides. She's interactive, just do the homeworks and you're good.
Sweet woman with engaging lectures. Homework is very doable. I switched my major to psychology because of this course :)
Dr. Cavazos is one of the best professors I've had at OU. The exams are in person through TopHat and you can use all of your notes but the questions are more application-based, making it more difficult. Go to every class--partipation is graded every class and can really make a difference in your grade. Her lectures are engaging and interesting.
She relates lectures to references that most people in our age range finds interesting (ex: sex, social media, psych studies). Exams are open note, every week you will have a "tophat" assignment due, application assignments aren't too bad and can be completed in 2 hours of diligent work. The only people doing poorly are ones that refuse to engage.
I absolutely LOVE her! Very good lectures, open note exams, and plenty of practice problems to prepare. If you work through the weekly tophats, take notes, and show up to class you're chilling. The grading scheme for the class is also clear and is designed to balance assignments and exams so that bad test takers aren't at a disadvantage.
Easy class. Not sure I learned anything except to do the tons of extra credit. She's nice enough but it's a lot like a high school class. A joke.
Dr. C is my favorite professor! Her lectures are really interesting and she makes them more interesting/entertaining. She gives lots of opportunity for extra credit. This class has great lectures, but the tests are based on TopHat homework, which is easy but definitely take notes on the examples because the tests are based off real life examples.
She is an amazing teacher. Nothing in her class is hard if you just pay attention.
Dr. C rocks. The class is a breeze if you do the TopHats and take notes over them. Lectures are fun and teach alongside the TopHats if you don't understand them. Make sure to remember the examples used. Exams are cumulative and open note.
She was truly a great professor! Made lectures very interesting and easy to follow. The class is very homework heavy though, so get ready to read and do homework weakly. Overall very entertaining class, would take again :)
one chapter of reading and questions per week. assigments and exams soetimes close together. open notes exam, take notes on paper, online arent allowed/ youll have to print them
I loved this class! Homework assignments are long but easy and worth the time to do. Tests are open notes. There is sooo much extra credit that helps a lot! Also there are 3 application assignments ( basically projects) that are very simple and easy. She was so sweet and easy to talk to! I became a psych major after this class!
Her lectures are super interesting and simple. The group TAs are always ready to help with questions. Participation super important. Open note tests and application assignments (projects) are the major grades. I would take this class again but STUDY for the tests!!
Great teacher. Really enjoyed the class.
I love this woman. I missed an exam because I over slept and she allowed me to retake it and I got an A. Super easy to get an A if you do your work, but application assignments are pretty difficult.
typical tophat homework every week as long as you do the work and study you'll get the grade you want
She's really cool from all the times I've gone to that class but her teaching isn't for everyone. It definitely wasn't for me. We have a lot of homework and sometimes she will say there are things that aren't on an exam and it ends up being on there which throws everyone off.
Pretty good class. Gets a bit repetitive but that's really just the material itself. Easy and got a 98% with minimal effort
She's a good teacher, but the lectures can be a little boring sometimes. There is A LOT of extra credit offered during the semester, so that's definitely a plus. Also, the homework and exams are pretty straightforward and not too complex.
I absolutely love Dr. Cavazos. She was a great psych teacher and the assignments were super easy. Lecture isn't mandatory but attendance and tophat questions during the lecture go into the grade book. All of the tests were based off the tophat reading so taking notes on all of the homework readings (mainly just definitions) and you'll be fine
Weekly Top Hat reading chapters with questions that are worth nearly 25% of your grade. The research credits are easy just do them early so you don't have to think about them later. The application assignment grades fully depend on which TA grades them. Lots of busy work in my opinion. Take notes on tophat chapters - you can use them on the exams.
I took this class and I loved it. Professor Cavazos is a fantastic teacher and I enjoyed listening to her lectures. Everything she talked about very interesting, and I could really tell she was passionate about what she teaches. She has TopHat chapters due every week which wasn't bad. It did feel like there were exams every two weeks though.
Lots of homework during the week but it's not hard. She knows what she is talking about and gives many examples for each new topic
I LOVED Dr. Cavazos. She made lectures so enjoyable and tried to relate the subject to us so we could understand better. The exams are pretty lengthy and can be difficult but she gives out enough extra credit so MAKE SURE TO DO THOSE. The class is easy to pass and her TA's were amazing.
Condenses information from textbook chapters well, but lectures might be a bit boring. Great professor and lots of extra credit opportunities. There are tophat chapters that have to be completed by the end of the week, but stay on top of it and you'll be just fine.
Attendance was graded but lectures were merely supplementary and not necessary to understand. Readings were interesting and easy to digest. Tons of EC and test prep were available throughout the year, and test questions were logically sound and straight from the readings. Amazing professor with a hard working team of TAs.
A lot of homework but you can breeze through it easily, and so many opportunities for extra credit! She makes lectures as engaging as possible and you can tell she's super passionate about what she teaches. TAs are super helpful too. Dr. C truly wants to see everyone succeed.
Dr C is awesome! The class was easy, well taught, and well structured. She was really friendly and accessible, and willing to work with you on pretty much anything. She gives a ton of extra credit, and if you put any effort in it'll be a breeze.
Terrible class...
Tests are a bit difficult
She is a great lecturer and makes a large class feel small
She is literally the sweetest! I thought it would be difficult to learn in a 500-person lecture hall, but she splits us into groups which helps. The assignments aren't too difficult, and I did decent on exams. Quite a few extra credit opportunities that I should have taken advantage of.
The lectures are very entertaining and attendance is a grade. Join the groupme for your group!! Don't expect to get in contact with Mrs. Cavazos herself bc her lectures have about 300+ students so you'll probably end up talking to one of the teaching assistants. Overall a very fun class but stay on top of your tophat assignments!
Honestly, Cavazos is a great teacher, but her tests were HARD because they were application-based, and the homework is a lot of tedious stuff that would take at the minimum 2 hours. However, she provides TONS of extra credit, so getting an A+ isn't hard if you are on top of it. Be responsible, and you'll end up with a 95-100.
The class itself was great. All of her slides are online TopHat and attendance is mandatory. Her tests are open note, but make sure to actually study for them or else you won't succeed. She is a very understanding and caring person. She understands if you are having a hard time, she won't know unless you go to her though. Do what you will with that
Dr. C was easily my favorite professor that I had for the entire academic year. Even though the class was test heavy, as long as you do the extra credit there's no need to panic. She make's the lectures interesting and engaging especially when its 500 people. Go to her office hours if you don't understand a concept because she will help you.
I loved Dr.C and would recommend her to anyone! Class was super interesting, I personally learned so much. To do well in the class u must attend!
Tophat is used for weekly chapters and questions. During the lecture, Dr. C goes more in-depth about the chapters, case studies, etc. (I thought they were interesting). Attendance is mandatory, and there are questions during class for points. Tests take a little to get used to, but def doable and you get to use notes.
Dr. Cavazos was by far the best professor I've ever had. She gave so much extra credit, had great lectures, and a caring and kind personality with a good sense of humor. Her class was not boring at all and I enjoyed going to her lectures. The tests can be a little difficult but as long as you study, you will be fine. She is amazing!
Dr. C is so amazing and I loved her class. The workload can seem like a lot but it really helps with your overall grade. tests and homework are all multiple choice and you have 3 small projects along the way. if you put in the effort, it is not hard to achieve a good grade just make sure you are keeping up with the work and studying.
She is amazing so understanding and an amazing professor explains well, You still need to do all top hat readings to understand the many topics that aren't covered in the lecture.
Would not recommend.
Avoid this class..
Dr. Cavazos is an amazing professor! One of the only professors I had all year who actually taught the material. Lots of opportunities for extra credit. Lets you use notes on all of the exams, but they have to be physical, so take them by hand. As long as you read and take notes on the chapters, you will do great.
Soo many extra credit opportunities!! The exams are all concept based so knowing definitions won't help as much. Make real world scenarios and practice those. She explains concepts very well and is an amazing professor. Go to office hours and take GOOD NOTES. All exams are open note, first exam is the hardest. Lastly go to the lectures
I loved Dr. Cavazos and this course! There were some things that made it tough, but she provides tons of resources for help and support. Just be ready for top hat homeworks, participation and attendance which can affect your grade. The exams are also hard so its best to do good on everything with top hat. Her lectures are actually interesting.
She was amazing, super engaging classes, and LOTS of opportunity for extra credit (do all of them). The TAs were also great. Going to class helps so much with exams. Homweork isnt hard but there is a good amount of assignments in general
There is a lot of reading but it is SO beneficial. I really enjoyed her lectures. They are very engaging and I found myself looking forward to attending them. She gives a lot of extra credit assignments, take advantage of them all. Dr. C was an excellent professor.
Dr. Cavazos' lectures are so amazing; she explains things so perfectly. I was sick for a few days, and I was really sad that I couldn't come to class, because I actually enjoyed the lectures. The readings were fine, but I didn't fully understand them until when she talked about them. Super engaging! There's a lot of extra credit opportunities too!
Dr. Cavazos was a great professor and is obviously used to teaching such large classes. She does a great job thoroughly teaching the class, despite the number of students. There are also a lot of opportunities for extra credit.
She was a good professor and her lectures were not boring, but her tests were definitely challenging.
Cavazos is an amazing professor! You can tell she's very passionate abt psych, and explains concepts well in lecture! Just a thought of work outside of class. Exams aren't bad if you pay attention and do the readings.
Pretty fun class, exams are very application heavy though so make sure you really understand the concepts.
Tons of busy work. You can of course make an A easily if you do the mountain of extra credit but the test are super hard... so you she forces you into doing lots of homework just to hope to make a B. Lectures were boring.
Lectures were boring, easy to miss if its a 9 am, participation and attendance matters and helps a lot in the long run. Didn't get above a C on any test but did all homeworks and application assignments, as well as a few of the MANY extra credit assignments and still had an A. Super nice.
Lot's of reading and taking notes on TopHat outside of class, but super necessary. This class took up the majority of my time, but isn't hard. Lots of extra credit opportunities. Application assignments took significant time and effort to complete. Open notes on exams, however they're application based + first one was most challenging.
