helpful and entertaining
A very fair teacher, enjoys the subject matter.
nice teacher very

Very cool teacher, tries to help students out, extra credit, gets you involved
Absolutely fantastic teacher. Lots of class discussion. Makes class fun.
Shes the best. She has weird way of making notes on the board, but shes good.
Tests from class discussion, lots of reading but interesting
She's awesome! Funny... really gets into the class, and lots of class discusion!
Classical Mythology-awesome class, great teacher, knows everything!!
not that hard as long as you got the cliffs notes
No Comments
Really sweet, kinda gets annoyed with stupid people sometimes. Assginments include short response papers on readings, but not difficult. Pop quizes sometimes, but they are easy. Would def take her again
One of the best professors I've had these past 2 years! Dont take during minimester though cuz its too short! She's awesome
great teacher - tons of reading but there are a lot of class discussions to help clarify things. she likes pop quizzes but she is a fair grader
Not the easiest tests, but you get a lot of points with short and simple response papers and quizzes. LOTS of reading.
Great class - you have to do a lot of work, but you actually learn something! I never thought I'd like mythology before this class!
Great teacher...I had her for mytholody and myth and literature. Alot of reading, but class is fun and there are great discussions. She really makes mythology interesting.
This class is an easy class... if you dont do all the reading and go half ass you can still pull a B. The class is a lot of reading and try and keep up it will make it easier.
Great teacher. A lot of reading, but classes aren't boring. Discussions are great. She has a great sense of humor and knows her stuff. Definitely a class to take.
lots of reading but if you read you will do well. easy response papers, test was ok. she's awesome. you should take this class.
Awesome, good subject too.
Fun class, interesting reading, a few simple projects. Definitely would take her again
I really enjoy this class. Very nice lady, very funny just be sure to do the readings because she loves to give "pop" quizes. Test are generally easy, just listen and you will pass. Very Easy A
Interesting Mythology class. Lots of opportunities to get a good grade. Gotta read for class discussions. Be prepared for some reading quizzes
Very fun class with great teacher. Lots of reading, but class is still great!
she is great teacher! very helpful, makes discussions interesting. if you read (even just sparknotes) you can get an A!
I love Dr. Ballengee. Definitely one of the best teachers I've had. She's very down to earth, and VERY smart! I'd recommend her to ANYONE.

Lots of reading but she explains it well. Tests are difficult though.
She's brilliant, and very fair. Warning: if you don't like quote IDs on tests, don't take her class. If you're an English major, TAKE HER CLASS. She's really nice and very organized

Incredibly intelligent lady, really knows her stuff! Just do the work, and you'll do fine. I learned so much in her class.
dr. ballengee is really awesome. she keeps students intersted in the material. i definitely learned a lot. just keep up with the reading and you'll do well.
It's always nice to have a teacher who just goes into random stories that have nothing to do with the material.
don't take her for an upper-level course! she wants to discuss the material, but when no one understands it, she cannot explain it. constantly accused the class of not reading even though we had and simply did not understand anything we'd read.
This was my favorite class, and my favorite professor. Though it wasn't an easy A, it was enjoyable nonetheless. The reading load is demanding, but at least the selections were interesting. Her class made me want to learn more about the classics.
Dr. Ballengee is the smartest, nicest, professor i know. completely awesome. not an easy class but worth taking if you are willing to do some work.
I couldnt stand her! Her notes are crazy and all over the board. Unless you love to read do not take this class. Its nothing but reading and discussions.
The material is intense, the reading is long and slow, but she does her best to actually make students think critically about theory. Can't blame her that Marx, Freud, and Saussure wrote like they did.
Good Professor who really cares. Take her if you can. Thank you Professor Ballengee.
I got a B, but she is awful. She calls on people who don't understand what they have read and she gets frustrated. She DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO EXPLIAN HER THOUGHTS OR TEACH THE MATERIAL WELL!!
Not too easy, not too hard. Had her for both upper and lower division classes. She tends to baby the lower division with reading quizes and picking on non readers. She's a bit more mature with the uperlevel students. Plus there's just something hot about a well educated, svelt socal scientist.
She gave really good study guides for the exams, they helped a lot. Overall good rating b/c even if you don't understand what you read at home, she explains all the details in class. Just take good notes (everything she writes on the board) and you'll do fine. Occassional pop quizes w/ xtra credit.
i thought this class was amazing. The professor is hysterical and really wants you to learn the material. Although there is a lot of reading and pop quizes, the information is well worth it. She's awesome and one of my favorite teachers here at towson.
i like her. she's extra nice and she's funny. lot of reading, but texts are pretty inviting she takes time to really explain it. so those 75 minutes go pretty fast. if you take good notes,2 tests are somewhat easy, pop quizzes are a breeze if you read. not a difficult class at all
She gave a lot of readings, and not everyone got through them but all together the class was good.
Awesome professor probably the best I've had so far at Towson. She really knows her stuff It is not an easy class and it is pretty demanding but it is an easy class to work hard at. online discussions 2 tests 1 group proj, 1proj Lots of work but reasonable. Take this class U'll learn a lot
one of the best teachers i've ever had
She is a very nice teacher. Asks for students input. Sometimes can be confusing (Notes)
She's a great teacher! Although I wish she would stop smoking. It's something about me seeing my professors smoke... makes me think less of them. But I barely went to class and got a B+, the test are easy, she makes great study guides! Use them!
Very "down to business." Doesn't like tardiness. Knowledgeable and enjoys material. Good bit of material to learn for class. Good teacher. I enjoyed the class.
Seems kind of strange at first, but she grows on you eventually...very good teacher, knows her stuff and you actually learn something...a lot of reading that you must do...If you read it shouldnt be too hard to get an A or B..doesnt take att. but look out for pop quizes, grades fairly, laid back prof
I really enjoyed her class. It is a good amount of reading, but it is intrusting. She makes class discussions fun and knows the material very well. I would definatly recomend taking her!
I'm not going to lie, she scared me at first. She is very laid back though. Likes to make jokes.Doesn't try to trick you on exams. Gives very helpful study guides. Midterm was MUCH easier than I expected because she's very straight forward. Goes over important things a lot so you know what she wants
She is a GREAT prof!!! I didn't think Classical Mythology could be interesting, but she has made it awesome. I would reccomend taking her to anyone...you don't have to like english to love this class!!!!
challenging, but well worth the effort!
Very flexible, but confusing and sometimes intimidating...she's too smart. tough grader and gives lots of readings but it pays off at the end.
Difficult material but a smart woman. I just did not like the class because she was intimidating.
Teacher is great. Its true you don't know if she is serious or joking sometimes. I would take her for any class. A lot of reading but its worth it. She makes myth fun.
Interesting class...tests and papers weren't very hard...just have to keep up with the reading... spark notes can be a big help!
easy class, do the readings and you'll be cool. study notes and study guide. study guide is great. easy A and she's funny.
she is so nice. she acts tough but she's not. make sure you read every once in a while (at least cliff notes) pop quizzes every once in a while. gives a very helpful study guide for mid term and final.
New class, new professor. She doesn't write on the board! But I'll insist she starts. Talks a lot, and fast. And it's early in the semester still....
dr. B is one of the most intellegent women I have ever met. She comes off hard but she is really sweet at the core. Best teacher at towson, hands down. Plus, she is super hot, especially when u get 2 know her. Take anything u can with her
Previous reviewer needs a cold shower or a life. She's great--really. Smart and cool. But he is a loser.
Great sense of humor-very honest vibe. My only criticism is that she moves to quickly and does not stop to check for understanding. She will expect you to stop/ask her questions. Don't expect someone to lead you by the hand. Overall, the actual class is very interesting, much more than originally anticipated. Definitely take her class--whichever.
Easily one of the best teachers I have ever had. She has a great sense of humor, and every class had a lot of fun discussion. You will have to work in this class to get a good grade, but it's worth it.
Best teacher I've had yet at Towson. Liked her so much I asked to her be my advisor!
Dr. Ballengee is my favorite professor thus far. She has an energetic, almost crazy, personality. The class material is very interesting and covers a broad spectrum of English studies. I actually looked forward to going to this class. She gave out study guides for the exams, which made things easy. My only warning is to be prepared for class.
I honestly enjoyed this class. We covered a lot of material and class discussions were fun and engaging. I liked Ballengee and would probably take her again. She gives study guides and takes roll. Read the materials that she tells you to read - they will be discussed!
Awesome professor. She makes class discussions interesting and I actually learned a lot, without having to do too much work. 2 easy papers and a decent amount of reading. Def take her.
Great teacher, so glad she was teaching my english class as it's not my favorite subject, but she made every class interesting and interactive. A LOT of discussion which sometimes goes a little off track, but she genuinely likes to hear what her students have to say about pretty much anything. Definitely wouldn't mind having her again!
Hot chick. Awsom prof.
Clever careful and hot.
this class was hard for me, but i managed to get a B and was shocked! she is a hard grader, and i didnt do the best on tests, but i did everything else decent and got through. she is cool and funny. just a little hard. As a person she is cool. this class was also a visual cultures class, but it was creative, but again-it was hard
She is hardcore, and I love it! Ballangee will recognize you for your hardwork, or lack thereof. Very intelligent, take her!
She has been my favorite professor so far at Towson. She's wickedly intelligent and doesn't give the lightest course load in the world. That being said, I LOVED her lectures- they were witty and fascinating and every bit of work I had to do on my own I liked. I'm taking another course with her this fall and I can't wait. I completely recommend her.
Not a bad teacher, but definitely not one of the better ones I've had. She could act pretty immature at times. She could barely maintain control of the class. Played favorites.
I bet I know the guy who wrote the last comment. He's just a bitter pill. This class was great and everyone loved it! Ballengee is awsome!
This was the hardest class I have ever taken. The material was hard and Ballengee wasn't the clearest when teaching it. She is a fun teacher, but the class just sux. AVOID.
great person but class was difficult
Great teacher--the class is hard, but challenging in a good way. I learned a lot!!!
She is a really good teacher. She does play favorates but u just gotta talk alot to be a favorate....You do need to read the text before coming to class but u can easily bs if u listen to what people are saying. She does know her stuff. Heavy amounts of Blackboard work. She is really cool and by the by u get to watch Disney's Hercules in class.
The class is hard if you do not work at it. Dr. B. is avilable either by e-mail or during office hours for any questions you may have about the class. She is always willing to help her students understand the material. :)
She knows what she is talking about. Thre is a lot of reading. She is nice, but she'll call you out if you do something she doesn't like.
i don't think she "favorites," necessarily...i think that she knows who does the reading by who will consistently raise their hands to answer questions. you will not do well if you don't read or don't go to class. expect to read a lot. it's a fantastic class, and i got my money's worth.
I hated this class at the start of the semester, but I now love mythology! She definatly knows her stuff, the reading tends to be heavy and extremely mandatory. All in all, you will get a lot out of this class. I highly recommend!
This class required a lot of reading and thought. She encouraged discussions and opinions and was SO passionate about the stuff she taught. I ended up really liking her! For this class, to do well, you need to be willing to speak up and participate, read your work, and act in a scene. I recommend this class, you won't regret it! Amazing.
This is class is really interesting, which you wouldn't immediatley know. The beginning can be boring b/c of the book, but then it picks up. Dr. B is very helpful when students do not understand the material. She expects you to read and show up, but hey it's college what do you expect.
I was dreading this class in the beginning but then I realized how amazing the class was and it became my favorite. You definately have to read but most of the books have sparknotes that clarify. Dr.B has a great sense of humour also. Take this class and you wond regret it!
Unless u REALLY like reading a lot and multi-tasking several assignmetns at once dont take her. She is very nice and easy going, but there was more work in this 200 level than most 400 level courses. Requires mandatory out of class meeting time but you dont know that until you get the syllabus. WAY too much reading especially for a 200 level. avoid
AWESOME TEACHER JUST ALOT OF READING. I WENT TO CLASS CAUSE SHE WAS "HOT" :). YOU CANT HELP BUT LIKE HER TEACHING STYLE
Dr. B is quite possibly the best professor I have ever had. She knows her stuff, has fun with the matieral and ultimately makes you love her class. I thought mythology would be boring ... WRONG! She definitely makes the topic interesting and alive. I'd take any class if she was teaching it. IF YOU DON'T TAKE THIS COURSE THEN YOU'RE AN IDIOT!
Professor Ballengee was one of the best teachers I've had. Her ability to connect you to the readings, as well as making it super fun made me really love mythology. She gives you everything you need to succeed on tests, and classwork. I wish I could take this class again!
Hardest gen ed I have ever taken! You have to read a difficult play a week and know all about it. Not too much homework BUT...the tests are so hard! 6 essay questions! Don't take if you're looking for a fun or easy English/ gen ed class...it's not one!
A lot of reading, but worth it! Prof. Ballengee was interesting and knew so much about her topics. I would take this class again. I loved mythology going in, and this class was not what I expected, but it was a lot of fun. Online responses occasionally, some pop quizzes (but she would often tell us when they are) and a lot of reading, but worth it!
I loved this class. The reading did get annoying cause it was alot but I love mythology so it was ok. I didnt do some of the readings and ended up fine. The quizzes are relatively easy and I actually enjoyed the online responses surprisingly. Its a very fun class too we watched the Disney movie Hercules and had a skit which were hilarious. Loved it
I hate modern lit. theory, but she made it tolerable. Extremely encouraging, helpful, and knowledgeable, regardless that she talks fast so the lectures are difficult to follow sometimes.
Professor definitely knows her stuff when it comes to Mythology. Great time in the class, especially since she loves to joke around and call on people. Quizzes are super easy, and the exams are simple as well. She loves participation in class. A ton of reading during the class, but I didn't really do any, and I passed the class with a C+
I'm not going to lie, I had to drop her class. It is VERY difficult to understand the theories and she doesn't really speak to you like you're in undergrad. But hey, it's to be expected when the department assistant is teaching.
I love Dr Ballengee even though I struggled through the class. She is very understanding, accepting and willing to help. If you're ready for a challenge definitely take her course.
She's incredibly smart, and knows exactly what she's talking about, but she's chill and has a sense of humor. She's genuinely interested in what you have to say, and respects her students' opinions. Taking a lot of notes is key and she's more of an oral teacher- there's not too many visuals, so you really have to pay attention & take fast notes.
Infinitely capable, easy-going, keeps you interested in the material. Reasonable and fair; Has a genuine love of literature. All-around awesome.
Professor Ballengee is extremely knowledgeable about the subject and I learned so much her class. She can be very funny and helpful but she also demands respect, so be prepared to be called out if you are texting or try to go to the bathroom. She really wants people to participate, even in a 70+ class. Participate, read and study and you'll be fine
She knows her subject. Lit theory is really tough but she will explain if you ask questions. Very nice and wants students to succeed. Doesn't play games-if you're not serious about your education, you won't do well in this class.
She is a very smart woman. Expect to read everything she assigns or she will call you out in front of everyone with no problem. Don't BS, she can tell. If you like to be challenged, take this class. The readings will change how you think about the world. She is chill in this really uptight way. Funny but in a "I know something you don't know" way
LOVED her. She knows her stuff and is willing to answer any and all questions, but she will move on if you don't speak up in lecture. It's a tough course as far as the topic itself, but she makes it easy to digest, even for non-English majors which is great. Great sense of humor, values every student's input. Assigned readings are necessary.
She was a great professor. She made the class really fun by making a lot of sarcastic jokes. Obviously there was a lot of reading since it was a mythology class but it was really fun. She has been teaching this course for a long time so she really knows her stuff . If you don't go to class you will definitely fail.
Mythology was so much fun and Dr. Ballengee is very knowledgeable. There is a lot of reading and it is more difficult than the usual English class. Still, I highly recommend this class and this professor. Tests are tough so make sure you study. We got to watch Disney's Hercules for two days and we acted out a scene from a play. Such much fun!
Dr. Ballengee is absolutely wonderful. She is so caring and thoughtful. I definitely recommend everyone take a class with her. She's so fun! That said, Mod Lit Theory was the hardest class I have ever taken. There is a ton of reading and the exams were difficult. Some students breezed through it but not me. There is no text book which saves money.
Very nice person, expects participation and you to read the material. Her TSEM class felt like another English class. You can tell she really loves her ancient Greek history. Got a B- on both the essays (20% each) but an A on the midterm and final (also 20%). As long as you participate and are a decent writer, you should be fine.
Although Greek 103 was one of the hardest classes I have taken, Professor Ballengee was a great teacher. There is a lot of homework for this class but as long as you attempt to learn ancient greek and participate you will pass. She always told us what our test would be on. Half of our class dropped within the first three weeks since it was so hard.
Professor Ballengee truly wants her students to succeed, but you have to pay attention and take good notes. If you do not go to class there's no way you can pass. Discussion every week due online and she will call on you randomly. Good at explaining things. Two papers, two exams.
Prof. Ballengee is very kind and wants students to do well, however, the class she was teaching did not match what I signed up for. She does not update grades AT ALL and you're in the dark about your grade. Attendance is mandatory however all you do in class is discuss what we have read and if there is no participation she threatens pop quizzes.
She is very understanding and is very interactive with the class. She is very up to date and makes you laugh. You do have to read a lot. You also have to purchase a few books that only require one reading of. So dont waste your money on those books. Read her syllabus they are very detailed. Overall she is an awesome professor.
Prof. Ballengee is a caring professor that always makes sure you would get something out of learning Greek. Things that should be known is that she assigns homework that is due every class. The class is also heavy on memorization, so as long as you are up to date on the textbook, you should be fine. Overall, her class was easy and fun.
Prof. Ballengee's GRK103 class is challenging but rewarding. She's a caring teacher who ensures you learn. With regular textbook study and tools like unstuck study, you can succeed. Attendance is a must, but the workload is manageable if you stay on top of it.
This was a truly enjoyable class. Prof Ballengee is very engaging in her lectures, and the topic is very interesting. She genuinely wants the best for her students and requires participation, its 10% of the grade. The study guides she gives for the exams are very helpful. If you can read all the content! Its real interesting. 100% would recommend.
