She is by far the worse professor I've had. Her exams were difficult to understand. Does not give study guides. Does not give you enough time to do lab, rushes through everything and doesn't explain anything. She makes you feel stupid when you ask question. She wants notes filled BEFORE class and her "guide notes" were pointless and doesn't help.
She enjoys teaching the subject & is really passionate about it which is great! I think it is hard for her to come down to the students level of trying to understand topics though, it almost comes off as her making you feel stupid for asking questions. I never felt very prepared for exams, the guides she gave us didn't seem to match the exams.
The labs are not looked at to make sure they are correct. So when studying for the test students could have completely wrong answers because of their labs. She is scatter branded and hard to follow along. The test are hard because she does not have a good outline. She is nice outside of class but not a great teacher.
I learned much more than I thought that I even wanted to! Lab was fun. The instructor helps wherever she can and gives you a clear idea of what to expect on the tests. Study though! They are not easy, but she is good.
So far I am very displeased with this professor. She rushes through slides, barely explains anything and expects us to do all of the class notes at home. We do some class activities at help, but only if you've already taught yourself the material. I do not recommend taking her unless you have no other option and don't care to understand material.
Unless you like teaching yourself all of the material at home, do not take this prof.

This professor gets an F from me.
A great teacher who only wants the best for her students. She takes time out of her schedule to help you when you need it and if you have certain issues/problems she works with you on that as well. She may give a lot of work, but she only wants the best for you and to see you thrive in whatever your future endeavors are. Take the time to know her
Teaching style is very disorganized. In addition, she does not tell you how to be successful in the class. For lab she told us to study the learning objectives/notebook Qs. I did that and did not do well on any of the tests despite studying a lot, reading the chapters before class and asking questions. This prof does not set students up for success
I wish she taught other science classes too. Super organized and gives us lots of opportunities to gain points. I like the class group work. Gets a A from me.
Dr. Bourcier was awesome! Her course work was tough but she was always available to help with questions. It was a difficult topic for me having no background in micro but with her help I was able to finish the course with more confidence in myself.
LOTS of homework. She is not clear at understanding material and gets angry when you ask questions. Didn't seem like she wanted her students to pass. DON'T take her for Micro.
Not sure if this teacher has a teaching degree or not but she definitely should get one. This is a difficult course by its self, however, I found it even more challenging considering I had to teach myself a good 80% of the material. I wish I would have never taken it with her.
As I read some of the poor ratings below, I am shocked. My advice is to take Dr. Bourcier if you want and or need to learn micro for your career. Take her if you are mature enough to understand that learning is your responsibility and she will help you as much as might be expected. She is very organized and very fair, but you have to do the work
seems to be like a nice person, however as a professor I would not recommend!! She writes her own test and makes them harder every exam( fill in the blank, true or false) if you DONT want to retake this class DONT take her!! Gives homework, quizzes & exams basically every week! Be Prepare to give up your peace of mind and be stress!!!!! Tough prof.
Never take her class: if you have to take bi 127 only get her for lab. Awful lectures. Requires a lot of out of class learning. Her teaching style is learn it on your own. If you take this class, only take one or two others because there is so much UNNECESSARY work involved. She gets very angry when questions asked and her answers are not helpful.
Dr. B was the worst professor I have ever had. Many of the people in my class either withdrew from the course or failed. Her lectures make no sense and nothing that was on any of the tests were taught. She is rude when her class asks questions, gets angry very easily and is not willing to help. Everything I learned I had to teach myself.
Overall good professor, but comes off a little rude at times. Loves what she does, likes to do activities and homework. Lecture was good, but had us learn 2 units by ourselves with no lecture or direction on it. First day, she almost tries to scare you with material and acts like you know everything, but stick with it. Only had her for Lecture.
I did not personally care for Dr. Bourcier's teaching style. I felt like she spent too much time making students feel like they should already know the material coming into class and introducing trick questions. Her quizzes/exams are extremely difficult and you are not allowed to view which questions you got wrong without coming to office hours.
She is a nice person, but as a professor, she makes the students feel inadequate. She does not answer questions politely. You will definitely feel the need to learn many topics on your own. Many in our class either failed, or withdrew.
Took her class last semester, was the most stressful class I have ever taken. Homework (very unnecessary amounts) & quizzes every week. She lectures in a way that you should already know what she is talking about & have a deep understanding for it. If you want to pass, don't take a lot of other classes because this ones takes up ALL your time!
Extremely organized and helpful if she knows that you are trying. You have to work for it, but I learned so much! Don't be intimidated - there are a lot of extra points and although the tests cover Everything , she grades fair.
I have never felt more passionately about disliking a teacher. She "teaches" in the most passive-aggressive manner + makes you feel incompetent if you don't come to class already knowing what she was supposed to be teaching that day. I had to drop my other class bc I was so stressed. I could go on forever but Im running out of characters.
The most giving and empathetic instructor I have ever had. She puts so much into her class. Dont be intimidated by taking micro with her. She will give everything to help you if you are trying g too.
Dr. B understands what it is like to go to school and she knows what you need in later classes as your education continues. I am so grateful for what I learned in her class that I used later in nursing school She gives lots of opportunities for points and really wants you to do well. You can tell this is more than just a job for her.
Take her only if you a pressuring a career that involves microbiology do not take if this is a elective. She expects you to understand the topic before entering the door, she very critical, and gets annoyed when asked questions. She will want you to learn the topic on your own.
Super willing to help any student who wants to do well in her class. Her lectures are clear and easy to understand. Homework prepares you for the tests so you get points from the homework as it prepares you to do well on the tests. SUPER CARING PERSON. Go to office hours, she is so very kind.
I cant imagine a better instructor for microbiology. It is clear that she knows the material inside and out and is most pleased when we do well. You can tell she loves her job. She spent so much time with me in her office hours - more than I deserved and I love her for it. The best.
So grateful that I met this professor just when we needed her most. She spent so much time and effort into making sure that we succeed. When the world was disrupted with Covid, she reassured us that we could finish the class and she made it as easy as possible. She is just great
She was nice at times, but other times made me feel dumb. Many times I was scared to ask her question, especially in lab. She gives you many homework and is a tough grader. If you are struggling, meet her during office hour, she is very helpful!
Dr. B was difficult but only wants to see you succeed. I earned a B+s worth of points, but she gave me an A because of how much work I put in. Great communication, allows you to defend your answers. Highly recommend if you actually want to understand the content and not just earn the credit and move on.
She is the best professor I have ever had. She is always available to help you I took BI 127 online With her this summer it was great. Just study hard you should be fine.
She does not teach you at all if you take her online course. Because of COVID I didn't have the option to take the class online or in-person. If you would like to actually learn and be graded fairly on the things you do, do not take her class online. Horrible.
She use lec with slides online this is time consuming trying to take notes (good notes) the lectures does not match the slides sometime because of errors this is really frustrating because i know learning is MY job but hey am going into debt here the least YOU can do is deliver the info clearly. she knows her stuff.
Personally did not care for this class. Way too much material and way too many assignments per week. Not enough time to get things done. Extremely tough grader and I took the lab online too with her and it's extremely difficult to do online. I work part time and getting my homework done for the week was difficult even with good time management.
The first time I had her, I did not like her at all and ended up dropping the class. I retook her class and ended up loving her. She will make you work for your grade, but does care about her students. There is a lot of homework, but if you do good on it, it can boost your grade. She is always very helpful if you asked for help with anything.
This class is something I would only take in person. The lectures are lengthy, and she constantly sounds like she's whispering. She makes you sound stupid for not understanding things and pushes her way on you. I did a discussion post, and she commented, and found it rude and condescending. She is full of herself and would never recommend her.
Dr B has gone out of her way to help during this crazy time. I have kids at home and a job while trying to finish my classes. Dr B always answers my questions quickly and makes all kinds of ways to chat with her. Her online class is super organized. She made a difficult time much easier. Great person.
The online course is one of the best I have done in this crazy pandemic. Super organized and she makes it fun, even done to her avatars. The work leads you in many cases so you cannot get it wrong. She has a lot of chats and office hours to get help, but i didnt really need them much. Good instructions.
I cant imagine having anyone other than Dr B for this online class. She is amazingly organized and that organization shows when she posts/emails the to do list for students each week so we know exactly what we need to do. She grades quickly & gives great feedback. Online isnt ideal, but she makes it as good as it can B. (With Dr B!) ��
Overall Dr. B is a pretty good professor. She truly cares about her students. She has office hours once a week and is available basically all the time for questions. You do have to work for your grade though. She is a tough grader and counts you off on the smallest things. Very picky. Overall decent. Would take again.
I wrote this on the wrong school so here it is again: I am so grateful to have had such a knowledgeable instructor during the pandemic. She thoroughly taught us about vaccines and how they work. In a time of uncertainty, knowledge as power is even more welcome! Super organized and caring, she did everything to help us succeed. Grateful.
Clearly knows her material and is very dedicated to her subject. I made a suggestion to her about something that would help me learn and she took the suggestion wrote the synopsis that I thought would be good ! She listens and is very willing to help at hours that fit my crazy life.
Dr Bourcier is one very organized lady! Probably the easiest online class that I have ever done because she has all of the instructions right in front of you. She gives us every opportunity to do well. Makes herself relentlessly available. Great instructor.
okay, I love learning! now this professor knows a lot. you can tell. The problem with her lectures is it's no clear understanding on just what she is trying to say. (umm,umm,umm) I can not understand just what it is she is trying to say because she is not clear on what she is trying to say. playing blues clues not teaching. I paid for learning.
I have never had a professor so available to students. It is so critical right now - when I would have really been struggling. Every time I have had questions, I could talk to Dr B 1 way or another. She is super organized and super smart. You can tell she wants us to do well. She lets you do homework early, get it corrected and do it again! Awesome
Dr B lets us do homework early, which she then comments on and we can turn it in again as long as its before the due date so if you want a good grade all yiu have to do is work ahead. Ive never had an instructor like that and it has helped so much. Really knows the material too. Very smart. Would definitely take again
this was a very hard class for me. a lot of reading in between the lines from the textbook. the extra credit options are hard and if you do this course online it is even harder.
Took Dr B during Covid and she was awesome. She is super willing to give her time to you. You still have to put in a lot of work if you want an A. Its worth it though & you will learn a lot.! Her lectures are interesting and she has them very organized. Her labs are fun. If you need micro, take her!

Not a tough class if you read the book. If you don't read the book than you can also just look everything up online. Teacher provided lectures for every chapter too so the book isn't necessarily needed.
She gives lots of homework but it's only for your good. If you turn assignments in early then you can fix them before the due date which.. TAKE ADVANTAGE. She is caring and very sweet but you have to put in the work because she is a tough grader. Stay on top of things and she will be the best teacher for you.
Super organized and very willing to help you if you also do the work. Come with specific questions and she will do all she can to help. Slide in with generalized fishing questions b/c you didnt watch the lecture or read the instructions and she will turn you around. Easy class if you stay on it and do the work. Can re-do homework.
The course is all about pacifying Dr. Bs ego, which leaves zero space for students. If you could choose between this lady and a mop to teach the class. Choose the mop. Youll get the same level of instruction, and at least the mop wont go out of its way to make you feel stupid.

She has a clear understanding that students have many things going on in their lives & her compassion when a difficulty arises is astounding. Clearly wants us to succeed & gives clear instructions on how to do that. Join the chat, go to office hours. Will Zoom if you need it
Dr B has so many resources, videos, tips for learning as well as office hours and Zoom by appointment that you cant fail her class - and have every chance to get a great grade! She is so organized!! Best ever.
Such an organized professor!! She helps guide you through the online material, has tutorials, allows you to resubmit early homework to raise your grade, connects with you, helps you find a study partner… honestly, if you want to do well- you will! Best online instructor ever.
Took Dr B online. She was absolutely fantastic. Her videos are great and she lists all resources you could possibly need. If you have any questions, you can go to office hours or get an individual Zoom meeting. She is extremely helpful, but don’t get me wrong - you have to do the work.
Dr. B is one of the best professors at GRCC!! She is ALWAYS available for office hours and on google chat if there are questions after office hours!! You can tell she really cares about her students and what she is teaching! The only bad reviews are likely from ppl who didn't like how much hw there was. But, the hw helps you learn material.
Clearly someone who knows her subject and cares about her mission. Dr B is extremely organized and has made every effort to guide you through the subject. So many resources and she even lets you redo homework! Take her, follow her instructions online and take advantage of the organized stepping stones and you will do well.
Dr. B is a very tough grader. She does give you attitude sometimes. She gives in person lectures yet it feels like it's an online course since she always emphasizes you to watch her lecture videos before class which are TIME CONSUMING. Won't initiate lecture unless you have questions. If you can choose someone else as your professor pls do.
Worst professor I've ever had, harsh grader and not clear outlines for homework. At least 1 homework and a quiz every week. Will treat you like you're dumb if you ask questions. Lecture videos took me at least 10 hours to complete weekly. Will give you 50% credit for homework if 1 little thing is wrong. DO NOT TAKE MICROBIO WITH THIS PROFESSOR!!!!
Very long lecture videos and tough grader. The one good thing is you can complete assignments and turn in early, if she grades before due date, you can fix and resubmit for higher grade. This class is very time consuming and difficult. Dr. B makes it very hard to get above a C in this class.. if you want a better grade take class on it's own.
Labs are based on "mostly" reasonable effort. Did not do any reviews unless asked multiple times by students. Tests are difficult. Would not recommend this professor if you want to pass with a good grade.
She does care a lot about her students, but she never really answers your questions. She asks that you ask the class in a group chat. She is a very tough grader, but you are able to turn things in before the due date to redo them. I highly suggest not taking her class online as it seems she gives in-person students a lot more help.
I have a degree so I have experience with many professors. Dr. B is at the top of the list; compassionate, eager for the student to learn, organized. Everything is clearly laid out from work required, dates, helpful hints. Micro is a difficult subject, but just follow the schedule and do the work. You will pass easily. Do the work.
1 of the best things in this class is that if you do the homework ahead of time you can redo it after it has been graded. The lectures are thorough and very clear. I took this class online so that I could watch the lectures on my own crazy schedule. All requirements are in a schedule and easy to follow. If you need to take micro, this is a good 1
Excellent communication. Very clear expectations and requirements to do well. I had a personal issue during the course and Dr. Bourcier was very willing to work with me. Don't be afraid at all if you are willing to do the work. She has high, but very attainable expectations.
Very supportive. When class was interrupted because of weather, Dr. B discussed options with the class and allowed us to decide how to solve the issue. Very "down to earth" and understanding that students have a life and challenges outside of school. Follow her outlines, suggestions and excellent videos, & you will do well in her class.
You can turn in assignments,15 points each every week early for feedback. Has discussions board due with 3 posts posted on different days for ONLY 5 points. It was too heavy on a workload with very very few points. My friends say her in-class lecture is also really bad...you're expected to learn at home and come to lecture to ask her questions
Best lab instructor I have ever had. Be ready with any questions. She will go over the basics for the day & then we did it. Very fun and relaxed atmosphere. Very willing to work with any issues that you had, and seemed very understanding that school isn't the only thing going on in the lives of most students. I learned so much from her.

Clear goals and very organized. If you do the work, you will get a good grade. Work ahead, as homework can be resubmitted before it is due so that you have a couple chances to get it all correct. Open office hours. Go! She will help and it just helps to get to know the instructor.

Absolutely impossible to please her. The workload was extremely heavy for a lab and she would act irritated if you were confused or had any questions. She is not a clear teacher and you really have to fend for yourself as far as learning the information goes. I put more effort into this class than any of my other classes and still did worse.
Dr.Bourcier is amazing person, she really care if you learn, but this class is hard(cus it's microbiology). But it's possible to do good, just work hard and she is very supportive and ALWAYS ready to help! lifehack, do your work ahead like homework and she will help you.
she is like one of the nicest people i've ever met truly but her class is not for everyone. I have always got good grades but this class truly affected me. At first it may seem easy but before you know it you're failing the class which is probably why so many people dropped her class.

Provides no study guides or lecture outlines for the class, quizzes, or tests. Tests are extremely hard to prepare for and she grades very strictly depending on what she wants the answer to be opposed to if you know the information. Seems very condescending/rude/annoyed if you ask questions or don't know something. Not helpful in class.
WAY too much work for a lab. Seems like a very nice person but not when you ask questions. Tests and quizzes are application questions and you only have 45 seconds per question and the slide changes. VERY nerve-wracking even if you know the material.
I'm typically don't have much trouble in biology courses except for her lab. I don't think the material itself was very challenging to learn but the way that she has the questions formatted on her exams and quizzes caught everyone in my class off guard. She is very kind but doesn't go out of her way to help set students up for success.
She was by far the worst professor I have had. She would make you feel very dumb when you asked questions or when you wouldn't get her instructions even though they were explained very poorly. She was unorganized and had assignments that took me 2 hours to do, and they were only worth 4 points. I really could not tell you a good thing about her.
DO NOT TAKE. I wish someone had told me this before I took her this semester. She is rude and belittling, didn't even teach the stuff she would grade us on. Tests were always difficult and worded poorly, nobody ever knew what they were doing, assignments worth 4 pts take hours, first college class I was at risk for failing.
You will get exactly what you put into the class. Everything is spelled out and very organized. If you have questions, make sure you have done your part to answer than and then Dr B will gladly help. Great teacher. Easy pass if you do the work.

She teaches well, and if you pay attention, the material is fairly easy to understand. However, be aware of the engagement activities—they always need to be printed out, and you need one copy for yourself and another for her. She also assigns a lot of homework, so be prepared for a heavy workload.
By far the worst professor I've ever had. If you're taking more than just two classes I don't recommend taking her at all. She is a very tough grader and assigns too much homework and quiz almost every week and the homework takes hours to do just for her to give you little to no credit if you don't give her what she is asking for. I had Dr.B for lab, overall she is a nice person but her class is definitely not for everyone. The lab itself is a lot of work and has time consuming assignments so be prepared. Typically she is a very harsh grader, especially on the final unknowns. I recommend doing your work ahead of time and reading the pre labs.
I would highly recommend taking this class with a different professor. My grade did not at all reflect my understanding of the class, and the hours and hours of work I put in to assignments were only worth 4 points. Awfully harsh grader, very belittling to her students that have questions. Extremely unfortunate & unfavorable learning environment.
I learned absolutely nothing from her but had to learn everything on my own. It felt like it was an online class but in-person for group projects. Be prepared to do everything yourself and your assignments worth only a few points. If you have to take this class don't take any other but this one. This class gave me so much anxiety.
This is not a basic microbiology class. This is a microbiology bootcamp! I hardly did anything but study for this class. I took days off of work and pulled all-nighters for this class. 2-4 assignments + a quiz every week. Avoid this class if you are not ready to WORK and/or you have a heavy course load
She is more of a teacher who wants you to learn everything at home by yourself and you come to class to ask questions about what you didn't understand. Very hard
Great professor! Would recommend. Wish I would have taken lecture with her too.
