Absolutly "lucky" day, if u have the course with her. Fairly easy coures, to be honestly. but she is so stingy on grading ( as well as her marker). so pissed off since 27.200 is an easy course, but just obtain an unpleasant grade.
Awesome teacher!!! Hard grader? maybe, but all English teachers are, the difference is her feedback is excellent and she is more than helpful. My writing improved A LOT with her support and her class is fun and interesting.I look forward to be in one of her classes again.
Nice Prof i've ever met.Clear and Helpful Lecture. I got my writing improved a lot, even i am not native speaker!I finally got B !Maybe a little hard on marking, especially on gramma!
She is so nice and willing to help the students. She is the best English prof I ever met .
Very good. She would be absolutely appalled at the grammar mistakes in these postings.
she is the best english teacher i ever had.... she is very helpful.
I did not enjoy any of her classes and found her marking to be unfair
unfair marker-she considers every word in a essay to consist of 9 characters-ridiculous. She seems to grade you on how much you respond to her barrage of questions she asks every class-I have never heard 'raise your hand if..' so many times! She also says strange things like 'every student who has appealed their grade to me has lost. got a B
One of the most useless classes. This prof is not fit to teach, she's oversensitive and emotional. She judges you and is biased in her marking as a result of that. The other prof is not that good either
Excellent English teacher, very helpful. And anyone who can teach English to a class full of egineering students deserves some credit. Just don't buy all the books at once, because we didn't get to them all.
she really is a great prof. Definately not an essay marker but very helpful. Her lectures are interesting and hold your attention well. Don't buy all the books at once, because the book you cover in the last week or two you can return to the book store for a refund. I'm glad i had her for english.
great teacher. Always had lots of fun with our class. Very lenient and understanding with deadlines. Highly recommended
Prof is very enthusiastic about teaching, she knows what she is talking about (and has probly read each book a million times). She was willing to help outside of class, and maintained good office hours
Very helpful prof. She is very generous with her time helping and guiding students outside of class time. Very hard marker - my first essay received a D, but by the end of the course, I was receiving A's. Take her help - it makes a huge difference to your grade!
Helpful, and gives reasonable deadline margins. Hard Marker for one thing. As said below, don't buy all your novels all at once, read and buy them as you need and refund them. If I had known sooner I would've saved so much money!
Just rent the books from a library its much cheaper. Very hard marker. If you go see her out of class I think she would give you better marks. Difficult class if you don't read the books. Nice teacher, offers lots of help out of class, use it.
I needed a lit class so I took her lit and mystery. I soon realized she was not like most lit professors. She clearly explained the readings which is really helpful. Kind of a hard marker. She writes all over your papers but with good suggestions. Gives papers back quickly. Very helpful outside class, answers emails promptly.
Pretty straight forward for an english class, she was one of the better english profs. I took the literature and mystery section with her, and it was alot of good books, 2 inclass essays, 3 out of class essays and a final with 2 essays. Good practice for essay writing and she truely helps you get better at writing.
Great teacher. I really enjoyed her class. Got really into the books she was teaching, so she made class more interesting.
Had her for LIT and engineering tech communications. For LIT, just rent books from library its cheaper. She talks way too much, loves to hear her own voice. However her instructions are crystal clear. If you get on her good side she'll help you out. I thought there was just way too much reading for lit, we went through basically a novel a week
Attendance mandatory for marks. Essay writing is paraphrasing. Lit and environment had the most boring literature I've ever read, possibly more boring than a textbook. If you don't mind existentialism or descriptions of nature then this class is for you. Good prof though, clear, loud and presented everything in an up front manner. Hard marker.
it is a course about writting.the professor is kind but the average grade of whole class is C.there are many assigements and all of them are difficult to get high grade.usually our score is 50-60
awesome prof. really nice, helpful and easy going.
Absolutely hilarious. Will try and help you in any way
Very nice. Not always accurate with references to the Bible.
Interesting personality. Very helpful if you approach her. Light course load BUT she doesn't hand out As easily. Think twice if you are expecting it to be a automatic GPA booster.
Every Business Student at University of Manitoba should take this course for Professor Mohammad.
Is not helpful with evaluation for essays. Outside the class, she helps you to a point where you just pass the essay but does not improve your essay to an advanced level. But she will explain the book in class and skip some chapters which makes it confusing.
Her explanation are pretty clear in class, she summarises everything that you need on the book. But she expects a lot from you to write a very good essay. It's pretty tough to get to know what she wants us to write. Easy to get a C, hard to get a B
Fun class, just show up, read the books, and do the little preparation you need for the final exam.
She was very entertaining, and the class is really fun if you participate. If not, your loss! If you struggle with writing, visiting her in the office will help you greatly. Awesome Prof! However marks hard. A's are very difficult to maintain.
The only marks you'll really need are essays and your exam but she uses several classes to go over ways to improve on your essays for the next one. Also gives a booklet of "don'ts" for future essays. Good prof.
All marks come from several essays with short readings assigned and 1 exam. Lots of participation since it's a small class and she makes less interesting topics engaging. You need to work for an A, but she makes it accessible if you're willing to put in the effort to become a better writer.
When she done sth wrong, she won't admit it and just say some non sense reason to make up.
This professor was always very nice to me, and offered help outside the classroom. She even gave out a book of writing tips to use on the essays, and often focused 2 or 3 lectures on a single topic. However, I have seen her talk down to other students when they ask her questions, and she does seem to favour those who do better on their essays.
She marks very tough. Somewhat funny, somewhat annoying. She only accepts her ideas for essays so attend class.
She fails to take into account that English is not everyone's native language. She should take this into consideration when grading. Also, please consider that students have a heavy load of engineering courses. Reading 2 books over the term might be possible but more than 4 impossible!! Try to put yourself in the shoes of international students :/
Professor Mohammed is a great English prof and will give you all the help you need outside of class for improvement. However, I didn't like much of the material we studied in class. She is very into horror and I am not! Be prepared to watch horror movies in class.
She marks really hard for no real reason, and insists you go to her 8 AM office hours to privately discuss your marks her. You can tell she enjoys what she teaches, but she just repeats the same things every day.
Jenifer seems like a decent professor at the start of the semester but I urge anyone considering her class to reconsider. She was extremely moody when addressing our class and grades very harshly. It didn't seem to matter how much harder I worked. You definitely need to visit her 8 am office hours for an A.
Gives clear guidelines. Grades very hard, makes you work for your grade, but you'll be very well off when it comes to essays after you leave her class. Great personality, and makes the course material interesting. Highly, HIGHLY recommend visiting during office hours at least once.
Do not take english with this prof, embarrasses you in front of the whole class and a VERY hard grader.
A really nice prof who really wants her class to do good, but it's really hard to get a good mark. Participation and attendance is super important and she gets mad at people who don't show up. SUPER hard grader with no clear criteria. Also has no grading scale, so you have no idea what your term mark is until the last day.
I really enjoyed Jenifer Mohammeds ENGL0930 class. She gives good lectures and her expectations are very clear. She writes a lot of helpful comments and gives good feedback. I dont recommend skipping class or using your phone in class.
Lectures are always fun and interesting. Professor is clear and precise with what to expect with her students but she grades her class as if it's in the 4000 level. I've taken classes that are in the 3000s from other profs that grade with much more leniency. I love the lectures but hate her grading scale.
An absolute angel! This is my first year and this prof was by far my favourite, I've even recommended friends take this class. She can be a tough marker but if you go see her in office she's a lot of help. You can tell she loves what she teaches and uses humor. My class was at 8:30 am but i never missed. It was my fav ever.
theres essays almost every week, easy if you go to class. I skipped a lot and missed information for the essays. Lots of writing and group work.
Expects students to be like her. Doesnt hold back from embarrassing students. Very tough grader.
No matter how good you are best you can get with her is B+, I have wrote amazing essays and got C+ at the end. Very hard marker. BUT I liked attending her class because she tells the story in process so you can understand it and write about it.
She is a great professor. She explains things clearly. Her lectures are fun and interesting. She is very helpful. She assists you with your essays and gives you helpful comments. She marks essays carefully with a lot of comments.
She was very fair with grading and extremely accessible outside of class. Sometimes she was a little rude but overall a great professor. Lectures were awesome and included films. She knew everyones names and was helpful for students trying to improve. Very approachable. Lots of in class essays!
Absolute favorite U of M course. The lectures were the best because most classes you are just watching movies or discussing them. There is never a dull moment. You might scream a bit at the horror movies but other than that it's amazing. Nice lady, great teaching. Two things, don't fall asleep and don't show up late other than that 10/10
she is a good prof but a tough marker. If you go to class you will hardly get a B+, except if you are a master in English then easy A otherwise a normal average English writer will not be able to get a good mark. Recommendation just take any other English course.
she is nice and funny. Accessible outside of class. Seems as if her grading system is more opinion based on what's right or wrong with regards to the theme of her teaching; "horror". she IS a tough grader but good with explanations. The only con is that she seems lazy to respond outside of class. even though she is nice I would not recommend it.
Professor Mohammed is a tough marker when it comes to grading papers. You should attend class since there is a lot of group work. Grading is subjective to the style she likes and you will be deducted marks
Lectures are very interesting if you enjoy analyzing horror literature/films. She grades extremely hard, and you must attend class and take notes to do well on the essays. Prof is funny and nice, just dont come in late or use your phone in class. Definitely not a GPA booster but an interesting class nonetheless.
The workload is generally easy, lots of break out rooms which you get used to. As long as you figure out what she likes to see in essays you will do good. The prof does not give useful feedback and was a bit rude at times. She tends to ramble about horror and movies and often misunderstands questions along with having a tone when answering.
The content, material, and lectures are all very entertaining. My advice is to read the background course theory. She provides great, detailed handouts that tell you everything you need to know. Her grading is tough mostly bc she kind of does all the analysis for you but not as but not as bad as this site had me expecting.
She is a very mean and rude prof ,get ready to be embarrassed in front of your whole class by her if you decide to take this course.
It's a bummer that I have to take another English class to fix my GPA again. Toughest grader I ever see. First time I ever have to follow someone's writing instructions and write an 8 paragraphs essay. I'm not a native English speaker so grammars and writing are sometimes awkward and she takes those seriously. Hence my GPA.
Professor Mohammed will definitely mark harder on you if it is not something she agrees with or likes. She will also take tons of marks off on small things. She seems really nice and is funny but often said to us she would "mark easy" but rarely anyone actually got an A. There is breakout rooms but they aren't too bad. Overall not the worst prof
The course is a basic level course but she expects perfect amazing writing since essay 1. Tiny errors (which are beginner errors) in your essays can really drop your grades a lot, really tough grader. Never try to explain why (with a good reason) you missed a class because she won't really care at all. Take this class with any other professor.
The course is a basic level course but she expects perfect amazing writing since essay 1. Tiny errors (which are beginner errors) in your essays can really drop your grades, really tough grader. Participate a ton in class or she will not take you into consideration at all. Do yourself a favor, take this class with any other proffesor.
The course was interesting but she was a very tough marker. The worst thing about this class was how unnecessarily rude she was and the super condescending tone she often took. Definitely takes away from the experience of the course.
Only take this course if you are confident in your ability to write. She looks for very specific things when marking: she wants your to fit her mould and image of an ideal student and if you do not, you will do poorly. A small part of your mark is participation, as long as you show up for class and contribute you will get your participation mark.
Professor Mohammed is a tough grader, especially for an ENGL 0930 class. The course if for an intro class but her standards are high and it is tough to get an A in the class so don't expect it to be a GPA booster.
Honestly a very easy course for me, however, there were a ton of essays to write. I did not really enjoy her as a person, but the learning experience was fine. Lots of group work, lots of her asking questions with no one responding, and lots of her expecting more from her students than the class was willing to give.
I really disliked the books we were assigned to read. If you are sensitive to topics that include sexual assault, Bestiality, pedophilia, or racism, then do not take this course. She did not give an adequate trigger warning in my opinion. Her teaching was fine, I just really did not enjoy the content. She also grades roughly, beware.
Worst professors I’ve ever had. Switch classes if you end up getting her for an english class. I thought I was going to enjoy her class since it’s about horror literature, but she made my whole experience unenjoyable. She doesn’t go off of the rubric when marking and just assigns a grade based on what she feels. Super unfair marker.
She's very condescending with her tone, especially during classes. Beware of typing in the chat guys!! She will ridicule you in front of the entire class for asking or giving comments in the chat bar! She had almost everyone in the class fear the chat bar in case she calls us out. Do not take a course with her.
lectures are done well, explains the class content thoroughly and posts all of her notes online. But she has a rigorous way of how she wants you to do her essays. If you don't follow them, you will not do well. Very condescending, does not hide her tone when annoyed. Do readings before class, follow essay format EXACTLY, and go to her office hours.
Very fair with deadlines & shows enthusiasm in her teaching. Tough marker but gives plenty of helpful feedback.
I have received an A in my prior written English requirement. I follow instruction and rubric- and I always have my work edited with learning supports. I find this prof to be too subjective in her grading. Do not present any philosophical perceptions, perspectives, interpretations or terminology other than her own that she presents to the class.
She is very condescending and was flat out rude a lot of the time. You can follow her grading criteria to a T and still not manage to get an A. Never in my life had a prof mark so harshly. She grades biased and on whether she agrees with you or not. Do not take this prof. Only 1 person got an A on the one of the three essays we wrote...
I hated this prof so much. she haunts my dreams. you need to completely adjust the way you write bc she'll only give you a good grade if you write the way she wants you to. took this class to learn how to improve my essays but was just told she didn't like my writing style. AVOID LOL
Very clear lectures with lots of writing practice. Gives lots of extensions for essay assignments, and responds to emails quick. Make sure you're taking notes and don't be late or else she'll call you out harshly. Overall the course made me a better essay writer which is the whole point.
Literally just wants to hear what she believes repeated back at her.
Lots of essays pretty much all you do. I didn't even read all the books, i only bought 1 book. You get participation marks so just show up i fell asleep in class most of the time. Office hours helps, this is a very easy class for credits. In all honesty i did not try my essays were bad so if you actually try you'll do good. She's also pretty chill.
I loved this prof, her lectures were super interesting and she was very knowledgeable. If you aren't the strongest in writing I would recommend this course because she gives great feedback on every paper and is willing to help during her office hours. Make sure you attend the class because participation matters.
She talks very fast. It can be difficult to understand what she is saying. Grading is sometimes vague, but she is funny.
I typically don't make an effort to rate professors but I had an extremely unpleasant experience with this professor last year and felt it was necessary. This professor is extremely condescending and at times was straight up rude. She is also a very difficult marker. I would avoid her courses if possible.
She wants you to write essay according to what she thinks and and what she perceives. She doesn't really appreciate if we write according to out understanding She's tough grader
generous deadlines. tough grader but provides plenty of feedback. very enthusiastic about the material she is teaching.
Great prof. She defo is a tough grader, listen attentively and follow her instructions. Attend class and participate. If she notices you being hardworking and regular, she will be friendly towards you. She gives lots of extra notes so you can get the best grades. generous deadlines, is ready to help, and lots of feedbacks.
Prof is easy to get along with and makes class relaxed. Her grading is harsh (she brags about giving barely any A's). My writing did not improve throughout the course. Bad at giving feedback, often making contradictory comments. All the readings can be found online for free, and she reads everything in class (you do not need to read ahead of time).
She is friendly in most cases but she is definitely a tough grader. She will give you A and B level sample essays but she does not give out A unless your essay precisely expresses the analysis she wants and follows all the requirements. Her class is good for learning writing but not for boosting GPA.
she is a really harsh grader and doesnt want to give marks as she expects things her way
Her lectures are fun but the essays are very tough. Don't expect an easy grade, it will take a lot of work. Provides a lot of feedback and tries to simplify it, but her feedback is still very confusing. She almost seems a little rude at times. Definitely should've seen her more during her office hours.
To preface, I hate english courses. I'm terrible at them. I'm a numbers person. I'll agree with some here who said the papers were rough, she's definitely a hard marker. But she's also the only prof who ever made me genuinely look forward to going to an english class. Genuinely caring and passionate prof. Papers were brutal, lecture was always fun.
I really enjoyed her talking about theory and literary devices, but I didn't really like reading with the rest of the class. I feel like she's a very fair grader, I've had many instances where I was really expecting a D, but ended up with a C or a B. I also just really dislike mandatory attendance, but that doesn't take away too much. Overall good
She is very vague in her instructions and when grading just leaves numbers that correspond to another vague document. There was never any guidance or help. Gave extensions when asked. Public humiliated kids in the class and when someone answered her questions or asked their own she told them to stop talking.
disrespectful with lame jokes on students coming up out of nowhere, not related to the lecture content at all. stereotyping genders with closed questions, for example, "when I say fire which gender would you think about? man or woman?" "when I say water which gender would you think? man or woman?" i personally couldn't believe it happening in 2024
I took English 1340 with her and she was pretty good, she was flexible with due dates as long as you have a valid reason. In my opinion her feedbacks are pretty good and clear. This class does have lots of readings but are short readings.
She is very passionate and excited about what she teaches which I feel is rare in professors and makes class more interesting and the information more retainable. She can be pretty strict about some things, but is overall a kind and fair professor.
Terrible. She talks to her students with such a condescending tone and was constantly gossiping about students in the classroom which is a waste of time. She marked harshly and feedback was super vague and unclear. If you don't write your essay word for word exactly what her blueprint was, you will get a bad mark. Avoid this class if possible.
Lectures are fun. Can be quite disorganized at times, but deadlines are reasonable enough. BE WARNED, this prof is *very* hard to please. Overly selective when giving out A's. Her grading borders on unfair, and she doesn't provide enough detailed feedback on assignments, given how picky she is. Don't take her course if you want a GPA boost.
The class experience could best be likened to the sensation of being tethered by the ankle to a speeding Mini Cooper as it careened through a densely populated flea market.
She can be very rude, but I didn't mind her lectures and she is passionate. She often makes fun of students and was very degrading and insulting when I went to her office hours. I've never felt this way about a professor. I feel she is an insecure woman. Also her grading is sort based on her opinion. Take the course with anyone else.
Eng not being my first language, all i wanted was just to pass course this but ended up getting A+. Yes, you won't score well if you don't keep up with the readings or miss a lot of classes. She is super flexible with due dates. I made sure to go to her office hours to make sure my draft essay is on the right track snd she was super-helpful.
Dropped right away. She bragged about how she rarely gives out high grades. Spoke unkindly of past students and their work. Seemed uninterested in her job and called some of the novels boring.
Absolutely do not take this professor's course unless you already have an English degree. That's your only hope to get a good grade. Unreasonably harsh in her grading, and does not support her harshness with good feedback. Condescending, unprofessional, and unorganized. We ended this six-week course three weeks behind the syllabus.
I genuinely enjoyed this professor, although her marking is hard for a first year course. I have taken many ENGL courses and found them boring and difficult to not doze off. Prof Mohammed was entertaining and i actually found myself enjoy coming to her lectures and engage in her questions and the lectures without falling asleep.
Finishes class early but when you stay for questions, she'd rather leave instead of answering the questions (she finishes at 13.05 instead of 13.20). Her essays are not the expected academic essays. Her style of writing doesn't reflect real typical styles of writing present everywhere. She forces her barbaric styles on you. Engaging class but avoid
I took an English course with this professor and I've never in my life felt so disrespected by a professor, she is extremely rude, I once asked a question and she refused to answer it saying I've already failed the course loudly in front of the whole class, she is very picky with grading and unnecessarily mean.
I certainly had a good time with this prof! She is very passionate about what she does and has a lot of enthusiasm. While she can be a tough grader, I found her not to be as tough as the others on here have said, but here feedback isn't the most in-depth. If you are only taking English as an elective and not passion, I would recommend another prof
She's rude. Classes started Sept 5 and we didnt get our 1st assignment back til 2 days before the VW date. Ended up VW the course because her grading was harsh (got a B- after thinking I actually cooked). She admitted she never gives A/A+ unless ur top tier nerd studying 80 hrs/ week. Take Lisa Dorcich instead (I never got lower than A- with her)!!
