Attendance isn't exactly mandatory, but you will not have access to the lecture or notes unless you go (take pictures of the slides she goes too fast) there's also a lot of information for each test and she doesn't provide a study guide or anything like it. Overall not terrible but could be better, just a lot of information and hard to keep up
The professor herself is nice. the class is awful, she doesnt give you access to the slides and the exams are hard. if you dont attend the lectures it is hard to succeed. even attending the lectures, she moves to fast and it is nearly impossible to take good notes while also paying attention.
if you don't attend you won't have any notes bc she doesn't post the slides. if u do attend, she goes through the PowerPoints so fast that you won't even get the notes. graded by 3 exams (9 chapters each except final is 26 chapters) and inquisitives that don't raise your grade. she gives extra credit bc the test average is awful and she's nice:)
simply not a good choice for freshman
Great professor in my opinion, just study and it's easy.
Very difficult to listen to, does not upload resources online to look over again, and offers very little extra credit opportunities for the entire semester. Also does not offer any study guides or key points to review. No effort at all to help students engage.
Mate…just don't…
While she has a nice personality, her teaching style... not so much. Slides are information heavy, yet she moves them at the speed of light, and she doesn't post them at all, so pretty much the only two ways you can get notes is if you type them or take pictures
She's a very lecture heavy professor. Many students complain about there being a lot of notes to take down but in reality she talks about the most important stuff in the slides (basically only type what she talks about). Also there's a lot of extra credit opportunities. And the best part of her lectures are her 10/10 outfits. Would take her again.
She's a good professor. Lecture heavy but just take good notes and you'll be good. Little amount of hw. Many extra credit opportunities. If you study you'll be aight on skibidi
It's an average lecture but her outfits SLAYYYYYYY!!!!! so 5/5
She makes us take a ton of notes and read a bunch of slides just for them to not be on the test !!!! I write 97 pages of notes and the material was not covered in the quiz ……
Don't take her the tests are miserable and her lectures are booty she just reads off slides and expects you to know the whole text by heart.
Doesn't give a lot of extra credit Doesn't share class notes or slides Test's are based on textbook heavily
Worst professor ever! This is her semester teaching and there is no attendance, but you have to go to her class to write notes and she goes too fast on the slides. The tests r in casa and the test average a F also impossible to get an A. Inquizatives are only 15% of the grade while exams are 85%. I needed help, but she says to read the textbook wtf
just don't. it's not worth it.
i'm taking this class fully online, and it is hard to keep up. she doesn't post lecture slides and you have to watch her lectures. she provides a bit of extra credit. grade is heavily based on exams. we do not get reviews for exams, which are pretty lecture heavy. stay away if u can!
This class is test heavy, Exams total weight would be 85% of your grade. Homework all together is 15%.Multiple students have asked her for a study guide since her exams are worth so much, yet she responds with "use your textbook and inquisitive" Her class average is failing for exams. If possible, UH should evaluate her performance. Do not take!
Never had a professor that gatekeeps material to help their students. She won't help you at all to succeed. She can easily improve this course by uploading her PowerPoints instead of having to watch through the entire lecture video and adding a study guide for exams. She will attend school events but not bother to do her job to help her students.
Horrible professor. Gives inquisitives only and doesn't want students to succeed when doing tests with no reviews and no help at all.
This is my hardest class and that comes from a STEM major. She doesn't help with tests at all, she does not post her slides and spends 1 hour on the first topic and goes really quick through the other three in the last ten minutes. If you take this class you will not learn anything. The only thing halfway decent about this class is extra credit.
Professor Jenna Davis is truly an amazing instructor. She brings so much kindness and passion to her teaching. She goes out of her way to offer extra credit opportunities. The homework load is manageable, with only small assignments here and there. Overall, her class is straightforward and provides a positive learning experience
She very nice and her lecture are okay. The HW and test are very easy like highschool level maybe a little bit more hard but very manageable
Jenna Davis is awesome! Her class is super manageable with very easy homework and simple group projects. She structures assignments so they're straightforward. Definitely a great choice for an easy, rewarding class experience and her outfits are 10/10
Her classes are lecture heavy, but as long as you take good notes, you'll do well. There's minimal homework, and she offers plenty of extra credit opportunities. Chat dont worry its light
Her class is in average college class. Idk why this low rating. It's probably mostly freshman getting hit with a reality check.
As long as you try you will be fine just got a 52/55 on the exam. Just take good notes and study them.
Omg it's a stressful class but her outfits slayyyyyyy so she's 5/5
There's a lot of note taking in this class so get ready btw she doesn't post slides
You're grader by a few things Inquizitives and Test so you already know them test are a big portion of your grade
I believe this is her first semester teaching at UH but she's really great and she very knowledgeable on political science. She a good professor.
RAAAAHHHHHH 🇺🇸 just got 50/55 on the exam W professor.
It's an aight class not much to say. She definitely does need to start posting her slides cause we have to type a lot. Little hw and lots of extra credit and it's very easy extra credit
Pls Jenna if you reading this post the slides and I'll give you a 5
Maybe this might be bias b/c I'm a political science major but I believe Jenna is a very good professor. She's very detailed and gives a lot of information. We also talk about current events in the political world which I enjoyed very much.
Overall, her class is straightforward and easy
This course is 85% graded by exams and 15% with inquisitives. This professor doesn't give you study guides & makes it impossible for a full time student to pass her exams. She says to study the textbook, inquisitives, & lectures that cover so much information so it is extremely hard to know what will come on the exam & exactly what points to study.
nice person but terrible professor. attendance not mandatory but if you don't show up you're failing since she doesn't post slides. even if you do show up, she blows through the slides and gives you no chance to take notes. gives extra credit since the class average is so low, posts no study guides for the exams, & makes it impossible to get an a.
Don't take this class unless you have no other choice. I have all A's in my other classes besides this one. The professor does not give study guides which is displayed by the students' low performance on their exams. I have a busy life, am a full time student, and took out many hours from my day to study for her exams just to get a horrible score.
Trust me and don't take her...
Professor Davis designs her course heavily around exams, but they are often challenging without clear guidance. Many students struggle to pass due to the lack of structured support for exam preparation. Although, she provides extra credit, it would be helpful if she could provide more review materials to better prepare students for her exams.
Professor needs to make study guides and try to help her students pass her exams.
3 tests decide 85% of grade, 15% from inquisitives. Doesn't post lecture ppts, no study guides/ reviews (u need attendance to see the ppts). Only resources: lecture notes & textbook. Her outfits slay but her teaching does not. Speeds through lectures and barely finishes them before class ends. Lots of extra credit. Prof is super nice tho
Does not upload slides present in class to canvas. Exams are heavily lecture based. No study guide or test review. Does not give clear instructions on extra credit
Professor is super nice. Just the way she teaches isnt the best a long with not giving out study guides or anything she had 3 test all most of ur grade so if you score low ur cooked. I had to withdraw this class. She just reads off slides does not upload them to canvas. Wouldnt recommend unless she learns different teaching techniques.
I just took exam 2 got a 41/55. As long as you try you will be fine trust me bro
Shes a very nice person and her teaching style is interesting . She has alot of slides but talks only about the important stuff, so basically only write what she talks about
She's a good professor. Lecture heavy but just take good notes and you'll be good. Little amount of hw. Many extra credit opportunities. If you study you'll be aight on skibidi
There's a lot of note taking in this class so get ready btw she doesn't post slides. But she a very good professor only thing she needs to do is post her slides and her rating will def go up.
Professor Jenna Davis is truly an amazing instructor. Im a Political science major so i find this class very easy. Just take good notes
Save yourself and don't take GOVT2306 with this professor. Passing her class with a B or higher is almost impossible because her course grading depends heavily on exams which she does not even give study guides for. This class will drop your gpa. Take it in community college instead if you have the option.
She is nice professor but she doesn't post the lecture slides outside of class, which impacts your overall grade from her lecture-based exams. Homework (Inquizitives) is minimal and are due around once month, so you have time to do them before the due date. Lots of extra credit opportunities too. Up to you.
RUN. Do NOT take this class. Awful tests and lectures do not help. She also lowkey hated me and bullied me.
worst professor at UofH. It's her first semester teaching but it's like 85% test grade and held at casa. She isn't helpful at explaining anything. She doesn't post the slides and test averages for the class is a D or less. Take someone else for gov or at a community college. Her class is my lowest grade rn
She's very passionate about what she teaches, but she has refused to give any study guides. You could read the textbooks and do the inquisitives, but still end up with a failing grade on exams. She said to give more chapters than any govt class on campus. A lot of information for an exam that ends up very broad, but tricky.
Terrible professor, tests are worth 85% of your total grade which isn't a big deal but she gives us barely any resources for studying. I've found that the lectures don't really help on the tests so reading the textbook is better. She doesn't give any study guides, class notes, or her lecture slideshows. Class average for tests 1 & 2 is 59 and 69.
The tests are worth 85% which isn't bad but she doesn't give a study guide, her lecture slideshows, or lecture notes so the tests are difficult to study for. The class average on tests 1 and 2 was a 59 and 69 and she doesn't curve the tests so a lot of people are struggling. She gives a little bit of extra credit but this class isn't worth taking.
Good things: very passionate and knows a lot about the subject, lectures are easy to understand. Bad things: doesn't give access to PPT slides, her lectures are repetitive and fast paced, there are no reviews for tests. Things due: Inquizzitives once a month and 3 tests I would take her again but it depends on what you consider important
She's very lecture heavy and doesn't make the course material interesting. She will talk for an hour and a half straight. She doesn't give out any test reviews and half the time her lectures don't cover what's on the test. I would avoid her as a professor.
Not the best nor worst professor I had. You can tell this is her first semester teaching. It's great that the tests are multiple choice until you know that it's three tests worth 85% of your grade with no curve. There's extra credit for attending seminars but doesn't work well for those who work. Test averages are failing, even after extra credit
I would never take this class with her again! it is a lecture for 90 minutes twice a week. She reads off her power points and we must take notes. She DOESN'T post her lectures, videos, or any other notes regarding her lessons. The class is 4/5 inquizitives a month then three exams over the semester. no reviews for tests or extra help. avoid her!!
I would recommend taking any other Texas Government professor over her. She never gave any physical/digital study guides, like most 2306 professors, and didn't offer any verbal guidance when asked. Her lectures were only helpful for the final exam, not the first or second. The horribly low exam averages speak for themselves.
If you already have knowledge of how the government works, it shouldn't be that hard. She is very nice but gives no tips on what to study, no review or study guides. Just know all 32 chapters in your head to do well on the exams.
Just don't take it unless you have no other choice
Lectures are extremely overwhelming and fast paced, I had to use the restroom once and when I came back, I lost most of the lecture... She does not allow you to take pictures nor record her lectures. She does not provide you with her PowerPoints and will not give you a final review. She does give a lot of bonus points throughout the semester
Attendance isn't mandatory but the slides are not uploaded to canvas and a study guide is not given. If you're ready to listen to boring lectures the entire semester then take her class. But I would never recommend her.
Just take this class at a community college and transfer it here. If your major requires you take it at uh dont take professor Davis.
I was not a fan of her teaching style, her class consists of her lecturing for the full hour + 15 mins, off her slides. Every. single. class. She does not give you access to the slides, so if you miss a lecture, better have a friend in the same course because otherwise you are SOL. Gives some extra credit, but not entirely worth the points you get.
Honestly a really content-heavy class. The prof is really nice tho, gives a ton of extra credit. Way harder than the course needed to be. Was really pissed after the final because out of the 25 chapters this course covers, the one I didn't read had like 12 questions on it. Don't take her unless you're a political science major
She's nice and all but it's hard to remember that when you're studying for the cumulative final exam and she's still teaching you new content that will be on that final. She also stands and paces the room for an hour and 15 reciting the solid wall of text that's on a PowerPoint you'll never have access to after that class.
Professor Davis only had two types of assignments: Inquizitives, worth 15%, and exams, worth 85%. There were no study guides provided, except for an "Inquizitive study option," which was not helpful. Their teaching style was poor since they relied on reading directly from PowerPoint slides during lectures.
The exams are really hard as they consist of a lot of questions, making you miss more questions and thus obtaining a bad grade. The InQuizitives are so irrelevant as exams are your whole grade, and there are no curves in the exams, though most of the class either fails them or obtains the 70s. Do not take this class; your GPA will drop.
Please don't take her class, she is very poor and doesn't help students as she said, the lectures and tests are very heavy and not helpful for us. There's nothing provided to helps students to overcome the test. She just read her power point everyday and not useful for the test. Please take others Professor, don't take her, you will be disappointed
Don't take her if you're not ready to read 26 chapters with three sections each all to pass a final exam (worth 38%). Would recommend any other professor. She gives more readings than any professor on campus. Exam class averages are below 50's, no one gets 100's. Not at all an easy A. At least half the kids dropped out or got below a C.
Honestly didn't expect to start out with such a bad professor my first year. I struggled for grades every exam. Too much reading and fluff everywhere. Exams are broad and straight to the point, but the textbooks make it hard to remember anything you've learned. I'll be taking notes in class, but they end up incomplete because she goes way too fast.
She's not gonna help you at all to pass your exams. Nothing about course material at all other than come to the fast paced lectures and read almost 10 chapters ever exam. Almost 30 chapters to study for the final which is worth like 40% of your overall grade. Good luck because you'll barely pass.
Inquisitives and textbook heavy. I saw a lot struggle primarily because we weren't told what we should focus on in the tests so we just had to hope we knew everything. She does give a lot of extra credit and that's what carried my grade for the most part. I wouldn't recommend her. There are easier and better teachers, but it's not the worst.
As a teacher, she doesn't do much to help. Her lectures sound the same and it's hard to determine what chapters to study for. Heavy on the inquizitives and gives extra credit. You can tell she's passionate but there's no guidance as to what is on the test. It's a lot of material to sift through, pick a different professor if you want an easier time
so sad to give her a low rating because she's very sweet and seems to be passionate about the subject. no homework other than inquizzatives. covers 1 chapter per class but her slides are too much (blocks of text). extra credit was really good. This sem we had a shot at 21 EC pts which bumped me from C- to a B. really boring class and no test help
Test heavy, doesn't give reviews at all. A few extra credit, that can go any exam grade. Tests were lecture heavy (roughly 8 chapters per exam. You have to study everything and I mean everything. Exams were ridiculous itself, studying over 80 slides for one exam is pretty crazy to me. Final is 26 chapters roughly to study. To much info istg. Run !!
I think any other govt professor would be better than Davis. The tests were pretty much the only grades in the class, which were extremely hard, and she wouldn't give any study guides out. The lectures were very complicated and fast, making it impossible to take good notes. Only good thing about the class was the extra credit from webinars.
I personally really liked her, but be wary of the tests. Reading the textbook chapters was the best way for me to do well on the tests. However, it is a lot of content, and the tests will sometimes have questions over very specific stuff covered by the textbook. She offers lots of extra credit, though, which helped me get a 100 on the final :).
Professor Davis is ineffective, relying on Inquizitives instead of real support. She offers extra credit but provides no help, even during office hours. Despite perfect scores on assignments and extra credit, her tests still dropped my grade to a C.
The professor isn't very engaging because she relies entirely on textbook readings without supporting materials like slides, chapter guides, or structured checklists. This leads to a monotonous and impersonal experience that can be hard to stay interested.
Professor Davis if incredibly knowledgeable about the U.S. government. Many of the critiques about her I see should be directed to department and the standards they impose as opposed to her personal teaching style. 2306 and 2305 are lecture based classes and the tests are created by the department, and not her personally. 10/10 would take again.
She makes the tests hard (no the department does not control the tests).
Horrible class! If it's your only option take it at lone star or hcc because it's literally that bad. She doesn't care about students and is not willing to help if you are struggling.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS! Any government teacher will be the better option. She is a very nice person in her office hours and she is literally a real life barbie with her outfits. She grades only on inquisitives which is a very small portion of your grade and the rest it test. The test are extremely difficult, the average was failing every time.
The only assignments for this class is inquizitives and there is not many and the tests are worth 25-35% of your grade. The only extra credit given is attendance and rarely attending some zoom for 2 points. Her lectures are very boring.I would understand why a class would be hard if my major was law related but this is a class EVERYONE has to take.
She's nice and clearly cares for this topic but her teaching style is not the greatest. She blasts through slides and doesn't post them either so it's kind of hard to follow and hard to tell what exactly you need to know for tests because you can't review the slides and she tests you on so many chapters
I hate to rate her so low because she's nice and cares about this subject, but she is extremely hard to follow. She does not post her slides, and it does not help that she goes through them so quickly. It makes it hard to know what you should focus on for tests. I don't think she is as bad as people say she is, but you can find better options
ONLINE+IRL CLASS REVIEW (I took her 2x) Passionate+nice but that's all she's got Online, slides uploaded but quizzes due weekly IRL, NO slides uploaded but quizzes due monthly. FAST lecture, HEAVY reading, MANDATORY attendance. BORING. NO STUDY GUIDE. Many EXTRA credit. If u hate govt + a slow learner/reader, she's not for you.
Most inconsiderate professor ever. Would highly suggest to anyone who struggles with tests not to take her because she gives only 3 exams each 60-100 questions EACH and does not provide any type of support or guidance on what you're about to take a test on. She thinks she is above people and is stuck up. Would not recommend her and should be fired.
It's a very boring class and it makes the class feel even longer. Just has a presentation the entire class.
People who does not understand or even interested in politics or our government will say that she is boring because they're in there just for the credit, but if you do care, she is literally one of the most knowledgeable person with insider credentials from within our own federal government. Very cool woman! If you're mature, she is the best.
Her lectures are very hard to understand, she talks in a monotone voice and simply reads through slides. Additionally, she does not post the slides anywhere or give any sort of study material. She is probably a nice person and means well, but she cannot teach.
not the best teacher at all. she doesn't publish the notes on canvas and goes through her slides so fast (each slides as so much information). she only gave out extra credit once and it only counts if your attendance is good enough. and the only assignments is inquizitives and you have to use those to study. pick another teacher, not her
