Not clear on what you are going to be tested on. Barely skims the surface of the chapters, then leaves you on your own to learn what may or may not be on the test! Gets frustrated with the class when we don't understand topics/concepts. Take someone else!
The hardest teacher I have ever had. However, if you apply yourself, you will definitely gain a full understanding of the material, and you can take more from her class(long term) than another professor.
Dr. Kim, is one of the most caring and concerned professors I've had. She tries to assit all of her students. She is not easy but then neither is Statistics. Study hard and you will get a fair grade.
Incredibly patient and helpful. Take her!
not prepared, unclear and really only wants her studetns to like her.
She is very knowlegeable, and very a very caring person. Great professor! I highly recommended.
She sucks, and she's VERY unfair, i didn't understand a thing so I dropped. You also have to do a powerpoint presentation and build a webpage which has NOTHING to do with Statistics. Take someone else if you can
Took her summer 03 and shes Hard so avoid her. Lucky for me this girl *classmate* helped me understand the material. I almost got a C but ended up with a B because she only gives solid grades. She barely skims through the stuff and the final sucks.
This is stats. You must work hard!Dont blame her because you don't want to work.Dr Kim is compassionate and cares for hers students. If you don't understand, ask her for help. Advice: start a study group.(I did and it really helps)
NOt Organized lectures. YOu can easily get lost. Tests are very difficult and she tends to criticize every mistake. She can be nice, but that doesn't help you academically. If you have a choice, choose someone else, and she isn't hot.
*Beware* She is not the teacher you want to take to get a good grade. I would not recommend anyone to take her. She does not make any sense whenever she lectures in class.. I feel that the book makes more sense. Hardest Grading Teacher.no partial cred
Extremely unorganized lectures. Awfully critical & judgemental despite the fact that she lacks the aptitude/capacity to teach a classroom filled with college students. Compassionate only to those students whom she favors, hence she is unfair.
By far the worst teacher I had at PCC. Very critical of student's work, and puts students down by comparing their work to her "A+ answer key" students. Unless you absolutely have to take this class (cause she's the only one who teaches it) DON'T
Nice lady, but very hard. She's knows her information, but doesnt know how to teach it to the "lamen". Very judgemental of students and other stats classes.
BEWARE!! please do not take this teacher. anyone else but her. she makes you do a power point presentation where you have to create a webpage. you need at least 20 slides!! she is really hard and unclear. this is the worse class. i hate math but after taking this class with HER i hate it even more. she is really hard! don't take this teacher!!!!!!
I should thank her that I got a B in her class. Her class was very hard, both quizes and tests. Sometimes, we could understand what she teaches, but it wasn't related to the test and subjects she is given. I would not suggest anyone to take her class, unless your major is economics. Only 1 person in our class who got an A.
OK, I will speak in Dr. Kim's defense: Do not expect to do well in stats without putting the work in. Don't complain about Dr. Kim because she doesn't baby her students. She's very knowledgable and will help you with anything if you ask. And the power point presentation is a real life application -- you know, the REAL WORLD.
The students that gave her a bad rating are used to getting A’s for mediocre work. I worked really hard for my A, but it was worth it. I learned a lot more from her than any other econ. professor at PCC. STOP WHINING AND DO YOUR WORK!
She really isnt that bad. You don't need to memorize anything. This class was so easy. I got the easy A during Summer, however, i must point out there were some that suffered. Here my observation, if you are really bad at algebra to begin with, just forget it. No homework is due, but there's final project
This is a hard class, there's no avoiding that. But if you do the small amount of homework she gives and study a little it not so bad. I'm not a math person, yet I still got an A in the class. Kim makes the class as entertaining as possible for a Stat class. Shes actually a realy good teacher regardless of what everyone else says.
Damn, one of the easiest classes I have ever taking. The first test was super easy, and she even said it was like a gift. I can't believe that people failed that test. All you have to do is read the book and pay attention and you should do fine. People who are complaining probably didn't study, or there math isn't up to standards.
This was my favorite Stats class ever! I have never had so much fun in a Math class before taking Kim. If you want to learn, take her. You will learn how to apply Stats to Social Sciences. Stat 50 is a pure math class, but Stat 18 will teach you how to apply Statistic Principles to everyday life. Really, this is the most worthwhile class at PCC.
I took her during the winter 06 session and got, to me, an easy A. But, many people did not like her teaching because she wasn't very helpful in explaining things. She has "quizzes" and "group quizzes" almost every class period to make sure that people understand what is going on, but she still grades them.
I don't understand why some people think her class is hard. Her grading scale is awesome! You dont have to much pay attention in class (for stat). You can study on your own and easily pass the class with a B. For econ, pay attention and take notes, that's it.
good teacher. knows what she's doing and how to explain herself concisely and clearly. has good examples to relate problems with. have to work for your grade. really funny, too.
She is very smart, but not very clear. Everything is math, and assigns bookwork, but does not collect it. Her life is math, and she loves graph. This class is intended for the strong math students
For me, this class is so boring. Doing final projest is fun. I personally can't get along with her. What do you guys think?
Oh my gosh how can anyone say these things about her! She is a totally cool professor, how could you not get along with her? She is very particular and meticulous about the work you do, the class is not easy; but it isn't impossible, she gives you sample quizzes and exams online. There are weekly quizzes and exams and I think she is very helpful.
Dr. Kim is a cool professor, but this class is HARD if you're not a strong math person. Don't take this class if you expect to pass by just showing up! You really have to work hard for it. Daily quizzes, 4 tests + final - she drops your lowest score, and a final project. Again, a pretty difficult class but she's pretty cool.
tHE CLASS IS HARD, NOT IN THE SENSE THAT YOU WONT UNDERSTAND IT, IT JUST TAKES A LOT OF STUDYING TO KNOW MATERIAL. MRS KIM IS VERY GOOD, IF YOU MAKE THE EFFORT USE THE TUTORS YOU WILL PASS CLASS. I went to class everymorning after working graveyard shift, I was half asleep in classes, but i used much of my spare time to study.
normal level math class, but a lot of formulas and rules. she is a funny teacher, and she knows everything. she'll go over problems until u understand and if u do hw and take notes u will get at least a c.
This class is VERY HARD if you are not great at math. At times, she can be chill because she'll tell you funny stories from her college days, but when you ask for help in class, she doesn't give you any direction. She won't tell you if you're right or wrong, and it's almost if she wants you to fail just to prove she's right. She's unsympathetic...
She's a *&#%$. She doesn't seem to want to help any of her students during class and when they ask questions, she simply won't answer them or just say, "Oh well, you figure it out." I had her during the Winter and she's super picky about how you write and do the problems. She's also really strict about tardies and attendance. Ugh!
I thought she was a fantastic teacher. There is a LOT of work in this class, so don't take it unless you have time to spare...like all your time. start a study group, go see the tutor, or just pay attention, take notes and you'll do just fine.
This is an o.k class attendance is really important because quizes are given without prior notice. If you do the homework, which she never collects, take notes, and pay attention you'll pass the class. It's an easy class but you have to be in task and be serious about the class.
I really don't think this is a difficult class at all. She prepares u well for the tests by giving you previous quizzes and tests to practice before she gives u the real exam. I actually didn't spend a whole lot of time on this subject. BTW, u have to pay lots of effort on the final project, but if u picked a good topic, it's gonna be interesting.
I took this class having not taken a math course in years. I petitioned my way in and ended up getting a B in the class. Dr. Kim is a fantastic teacher. She gives you practice exams that are near identical to the real thing. She would go over topics as many times as people wanted until we understood. Overall an interesting class and great prof.
Outstanding instructor. Worth making a special effort to take her class.
do yourself a favor and DONT take this class. by the mid way point you will HATE her. i never missed class, went to the tutors and was the poster child student, yet she will try to do whatever it takes to FAIL you! i think she wants her students to fail and ruin their transfer goals!DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER, I WARN YOU...DONT DO IT
This teacher was difficult because she expected too much from a 6 week summer course (including an excel/power point presentation and little time to study for the final). She has little lienancy, patience, and passion to even teach at all. She was one of the most unhelpful teacher's I've ever had.
This class is difficult if you're not already proficient in math. Gives several quizzes and tests, plus a project at the end. Prepare to devote a lot of time to this class.
Dr.Kim is a B****...she is sooo unfair..ppl dnt take this class..u will have to wrk ur ass off jst to barely pass..if ur not one of her favorite students than goodluck..her grading scale is a mess..she let a friend of mine take an exam home and passed him jst b/c its the second time taking the class..the only reason i paseed is b/c she had a GRT tu
Class is interesting, not too easy nor too difficult.
She is hard, unwilling to help. I got an A+, was her best student but only because I love math! If u dont like math, she will be a pain! I even dare to say she was uncaring towards students!
Lectures can be confusing at first, but ask questions & she'll clarify things. Participate for her to know you by name - that way, she'll be able to help you more when you need it. Final project is choosing some topic for a survey. She gives out lots of quizzes daily. Some are individual or group work. You gotta understand statistics to pass!
Recommended. You can't expect anything more from a professor in regards to providing you sources to study from. You can find many of her exams and worksheets straight from her website. She may derail from topics at times and talk about her life..she can be unclear in her lecture, but if you don't understand, let her know and she will clarify it.
Do not take her. HW does not prepare you for quizes and the test are on the quizes. Impossible class. Unless you have no life and you live stats
Truly an instance where subject defines the class difficulty. Its statistics, its gonna be hard. If you suck at math this class will blow. She isn't the best teacher, but not the worst. She's 1 of those people who loves math + cant comprehend that some people just dont understand math. its just a hard subject
By far one of the worst teachers I've ever had! I had a 4.0 before attending this class. She cannot teach, does not prepare for tests and has the strictest grading. SERIOUSLY IF YOU NEED STAT 18 GO TAKE IT AT A DIFFERENT SCHOOL. worst teacher of all time.
She is a tough teacher, and it will be stressful at times. That's a good thing people. She really challenges you. If you attend all classes, and take the pop quizes that's an extra A added to your final grade!! Pay attention, ask questions, and get help from the tutor if need be. If I can make an A in the class, ANYONE CAN. (Do the work)
She's really not that bad you guys. I was terrified to take this class after reading all of these ratings but shes actually a REALLY GOOD TEACHER. Shes really good at explaining the material... though she grades tough, there are other opportunities to make up your grade. She wants you to do well. She's really nice too!!
Okay teacher. I took this class over the short winter term in 07 and got a good grade. She's helpful if you are attentive and if you show that you are trying, she'll do her best to point you in the right direction.
Prof Kim tries to let students who understand the material not be burdened with extra work. If you need help, she is happy to give it in class or during her office hours. There is also free tutoring in this subject at Pcc. I did a really poor job on my final project and still got an A.
Sometimes the assigned textbook homework and reading made the lecture more confusing. But, if you have the time, and can spend a lot of time studying and can get to the tutor, you should be able to pass.
Simply put, the worst teacher I have ever had. Please do yourself a favor and don't take the class. The woman is just plain bad at teaching, does not understand the material, and isn't very nice. I really don't think the lady is built for teaching. She won't help you in class, you have to come to her office hours which are at 8am. Don't take he
Dr. Kim really cares about her students and is great at making sure you fully understand. The exams come straight from lecture. There are quizzes every week, some are extra credit, others are group quizzes and they are all exactly like the exam. She drops your lowest exam and the final project will help boost your grade.
Dr. Kim is THE BEST professor to take when signing up for Statistics. To me, Statistics is like a foreign language, but she really takes the time to explain everything in detail. She's a stickler for attendance and encourages strong study skills. If you don't pay attention in class you'll miss something. 1st 4 wks- quizzes are completed in groups!
She's a fantastic teacher, but I don't think she also realizes how great of a role model she is. Stats 18 is a hard class it always has been; don't expect any short cuts in life. Extremely helpful and understands the life of a student. Take her, but the effort is in your hands.
if u need this class take it at another school! She is hard, offers extra credit that is impossible but thinks she is doing US a favor. She deducts points like crazy on tests and quizzes so that it is VERY hard to pass the class with a A. Be prepared to take quizzes every class meetings and be subjected to her extreme perfectionism.
You don't have to memorize formulas. Substitute the data into formula, then solve. How hard is that people? Statistics is less math and more context. Take the time to understand it contextually and you'll breeze through the class. No homework, just quizzes and exams and final project with presentation, with optional final exam at end of semester
she is a hard for ppl who are not math savvy! i had a hard time understanding the class with notes, lectures and the book so if ur bad at math u shouldn't take her
The worst prof ever in my life!!!!! She is not a fair grader, she will grade on personal preference. If she likes you she will help you pass the class if not she will make it her mission to put obstacles all along the way. Warning! do not take her class if you are not willing to kiss her ass. She is the only stats 18 prof and 1/2 the class fails.
totally agree with the comment below my partner in my group had a lower grade then me in the class, did nothing but whine about the project and got a C while I got a D...if u have questions about the material do not ask her she will em brass you in front of the class...
Dr. Kim is a wonderful professor/lecturer (and coming from someone who's always been terrible at math, that says alot). Disregard the negative comments--the students who tend to dislike her are the ones who are unwilling to put in the effort. She's very personable...and honestly, I've yet to have a better math professor :] She's really wonderful :]
I am convinced that all of the positive comments are either written by her or her counterparts. It's professors like her who seriously make me wonder how and why a college could hire incompetent people. I don't think the Dean of the Mathematics Department truly realizes how horrible 90% of the faculty are.
Don't listen to all these goody goody comments about Mrs. Kim, she said it herself "I don't know why I became a teacher." I went to the tutor, did the hw, and worked many MANY hours and ended up with a D. She is literally the worst professor . 1/3 of the students will be retaking her class, and half of them will drop or recieve an F. RUN AWAY!
Kim is one of the hardest professors i have ever had...and i am SUPER GRATEFUL FOR IT!!! i transfered to UC Berkeley from PCC and i can honestly say that Kim's class prepares you for the level of work and higher thinking you will encounter in a university setting. she will definitely challenge you. but she will also make you a better student!
SHES SO EASY TAKE HER! I GOT A C BUT IM STILL TRANSFERRING to BERKELEY ....she has the cutest personality.
I also had her in winter. she's wonderful.based on my experiences, those who never did many exercises from the book&quizzes/listened to her lectures were the ones getting a d/failing the class.one of my friend never opened the book, but listened to her lectures only. She could pass.if you want better grades, don't be lazy.that applies to all classes
The first day, some girl sitting next to me told me I'd fail like she did the first time if I didnt do the hw. I never opened the book, I never did the hw except the mock exam and mandatory hw, and I'm getting an A. If you just listen to the lecture you'll be fine. She is a great professor, just pay attention to the lectures and you'll do fine.
It is a hard class, but as long as you pay attention to her lecture and follow it, you'll be fine. She's very nice, funny and patient. She will review/ explain a concept over and over again just to let you get it. She failed a lot of people, but I don't think it's her fault. She is willing to help you pass as long as you show the effort. Work hard!
ugh... hated it. too much expectations and a project that consumes too much time. that's all i want to say.
she is nice and we had 4 test and final is optional it can replace one of the lowest test score, and she doesn't use textbook during the lecture, but you need to read it and do your homework to get an A ! oh only one project! can work in group
Reading these comments, it just doesn't sound like her. She runs through the material so fast and is so impatient, that if you ask be prepared to be ridiculed. She needs to be taken off her tenure pedestal and a replacement needs to come in. A HORRIBLE, sadist.
She is NOT an easy teacher by any means and the class is difficult, however if you really try you can ace all your exams and project. What she teaches also sometimes conflicts with the book so pay attention in class! Overall I got more from her class than any math class in the past.
The best professor I've had at PCC. I never did any of the homework assignments and still did incredibly well in the class. Listen to her lectures and ASK QUESTIONS! If you do well on the mock exam and ask questions the first time around you'll do fine. The final project only took me a week, she is extremely reasonable.
On one hand she's a great teacher that does her best to make u understand the subject. She's very smart like a human calculator. but she's also pretty tough cuz in the end stats is tough. i had to take her twice and she'll give past students priority when it comes to adding. got an A second time around. make sure u ask questions when ur stuck!!!
she is great professor. know how to teach, answer questions, give mock exam before real test, explain every test and quiz. we only had 4 tests, 1 project, and attendance+hw+quizzes for our grade. the final is optional and lowest grade got dropped! also, she gives out extra credit+take home exam. get an A if u do your work. TAKE HER, SHE IS GREAT!!
She was the worst biased prof. ever! she was unfair and a girl dropped bcuz shegave her friend a higher score on the quizzes and she went to complain about it. Kim gave her a hard time when she could of acted more professional.Kim made an error and should of corrected w/o a problem.Students pay to go to school and it's her job to correct accurately
She's hard and she delegates teaching to the tutor in the Learning Center. When you ask a question in class she gives you a hard time. Awful experience and I really tried hard in this class.
she's hard and unfair
Honestly, I liked the class. It's an extremely difficult class and she's a really nice teacher. Do not think of this as a regular math class because you have to explain most of your answers. Prof.Kim is definitely one of my favorite teachers.
This is a very difficult class to teach but if you pay attention, she actually explains things as clearly as she possibly can. She is more helpful if you ask questions! if no one asks Q's, she assumes everyone understands it. Just ask! Do the hw, study the quizzes & you'll be fine. You have to put the work in but she will help in any way she can.
i dont know why people said she is hard. the subject might be difficult for some people; however, a B or higher is absolutely doable! just ask questions if you dont understand something. you gotta work hard and pay attention!! ya i got an A
I don't understand why people are saying that this class is hard. It was just like any other math class, takes time, practice, and studying. If you do your homework and listen in class then I don't see how you can do poorly. She is also a very considerate when it comes to your grades. Just go and talk to her if you have any problems or questions.
This was probably the hardest subject that i took here at PCC, but I managed to get a C in this class. Professor Kim is an awesome teacher because she tried to make the subject easy to understand. on the test, make sure you write mini essays on the written response b/c that's where all of my points were docked off.
i think the reason why people hate her b/c she's a very typical hardcore korean mom. she's a tough teacher, but once you get used to this teaching style, you'll learn. for example, i wasn't used to this at the beginning of the semester & was failing the class; but @ the end of the semester, i got a C. put the time to learn the subject.
worst professor ever, DO NOT TAKE HER. she isn't helpful what so ever, her lectures don't follow the book, and the book is completely different. her test are hard, most of the time you don't have enough time to finish the test, don't waste your time. she needs to be fired. If you have to take stats take stats 50.
I'm about to graduate next semester from CSUN, and thought back to my worst teacher in the history of my education. That title goes to Ms. Kim. I always liked stats too, thats the funny thing. I had the highest grade in my stat class at csun, i finished with a 99%. I got a B in Kims class. But I'll forever remember how horrible this lady was.
I took her for summer and I thought she was quite helpful. I did spend like 7 hours everyday reading the book and doing the homework, but I sucked at math, so I gotta do what I gotta do. I learned a lot about how to analyze graphs, use equations, and apply math concepts to real life. I also enjoyed playing around with Excel and her jokes.
She curves her exams based on the performance of all her sections, so grading can be quite generous. She is great at explaining concepts, but she makes herself unavailable during office hours and tells you to go to the stats tutor in the Social Science Learning Center if you have homework questions.
She does care about her students and makes statistic easy to learn. I enjoyed her class.
Great professor! While this is not an easy class, she makes the material easier to understand. Don't be intimated, she's a very sweet person and dedicated to her student's learning! If you're willing to put in the effort and time then you should have no problem with this class. Not an easy A but will prepare you for UC level classes!
This professor couldn't piss me off more. Annoying quizes are given every meeting, lectures are boring and unhelpful, and the tests are just ridiculously stupid. She needs to get fired.
If you have questions all she says is to go on her site, she's goes too fast on her lectures that are not particularly in order. The homework is completely different from whats on the test so don't even bother studying from the textbook! She doesn't give any type of second chances and her explanations to problems are horrible!DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!
Must take her class to graduate, there's no alternative. I tried, twice. Have take Stats 50. Her class is difficult even w/hard work. I met w/her and w/the tutor. Things didn't match up, tests were difficult. Group projects are never fair. My group partner did well but it doesn't count for you. Plays favorites. You feel defeated.Take another class.
You will laugh. You will cry. You will conquer! This class is difficult but if you do your time, you will pass! Do the homework and complete the quizzes BEFOFE meeting for class because everything will make sense. You can't solely rely on the prof. You have to take responsibility for your own learning too.
My advice is take no more than 2/3 classes with this one. Very smart teacher, but lectures will not match the book, it can be confusing, take detailed notes and use them to prepare for tests . Respect the amount of time you will need to invest in this class and you will be successful - SEE THE TUTOR! Study before and after every class. good luck
Yes, this is a hard class (it's statistics duh) but contrary to what most ppl say she DOES care about her students succeeding. I recommend doing the hw before she teaches it in class so it's not as overwhelming. As long as you understand the concepts you'll be fine (and make sure you have smart ppl for your group project)
Honestly, I was never good with numbers, but Dr. Kim changed that. She explains in detail what those numbers mean and how they're related to one another. She is a very dedicated instructor, would recommend taking her if you are in for some serious learning! PROTIP: study her online packets. You'll thank me later.
Dr. Kim is an amazing and very dedicated professor. Her lectures were a lot easier to understand than the book. Make sure to do her brainstorms and homework! Her exams resemble some of her brainstorm questions.
Im bad at math so I sat in front, took copious notes, office hours, took tutoring and did between 3-5 hours of study a day, 6 days a week. I got an F. I am usually an A student. She tried to help me, nothing was enough to get me a better grade. Many tests and quizzes but they build from question to question. Get #1 wrong and it's a domino effect.
Was my only class last summer and I highly recommend it in summer bc she didn't have us do the group project (sounds super hard). Moves fast so put in MANY hrs everyday. VERY CLEAR PROFESSOR, just need to do all the work she asks. Read chapters before class and THEN listen to lectures (Trust, helps so much) Find smart, hard working ppl to work with
She is a very knowledgable instructor and explains statistics clearly. She is difficult and requires a lot of you. Expect to do all the homework and handouts to do well as her exams come from these. She could have explained her expectations of her project more thoroughly as I felt that many of us were marked off for things she did not explain.
She's not clear, and her tests are hard. I do not recommend her, so just take stats 50. No matter how hard you work, you'll bearly get a C.
Before the class started, I was actually looking forward to Kim's class given her extensive background with economics. The problem I had with this class was the structure of it all- brainstorm quizzes after every lecture and exams that varied every time. There was no consistency nor was there any guidance. Knowledgeable, but not the best instructor
I don't recommend this professor. The first test I did great but as the class progressed it got confusing. She creates her tests months in advance and doesn't remember or teach you what will be on the test. The professor is nice but not great at teaching. There were several classmates that had failed her class and were there for the 2nd or 3rd time
Okay so first of all this is not an easy class, but you can get an A if your work hard. I have never been good at math and I ended the class with an A and she allowed me to do honors contract. She is really nice and if you go to class and listen to her you can learn a lot. This is not a class you can miss or not study for though.
Multiple choice exams a lot of extra credit and optional final. Easiest 1b professor, ask anyone who has actually taken her class. Very nice professor!
I loved Professor Kim. She is kind to all of her students, and cares about their success. I learned a lot in her Econ class. My only objections were that she gave out quizzes in EVERY CLASS. She was often disorganized. She had to ask students about schedule, there were grammarproblem issues in tests. Otherwise good class, gives take home tests.
Her lecture is terrible: she doesnt really prepare her lecture, she just wrote on board whenever some ideas came out. She wrote something, and jump to other topic, and erase everything. No hw but you have to read book because her lecture is not reliable at all, her lecture does not related to the book either. Quize everyweek and test each two weeks
Quize everyweek at the end of the class. Test each two week. lowest test will be dropped and replaced by final. tough grading. Lecture is terrible. her lecture never relate to the book, always jump topics, so you have to erase your notes frequently. And the test is based on braistrom quize or book. So you have to read book before taking test. Hard!
Quiz every week and test every two weeks. Is helpful and gives you opportunities to make up for a bad grade. She is also very disorganized and is hard to understand sometimes. She teaches completely separate from what the book teaches so you jump back and forth. Some tests are based on her lectures and others from the book so it was very confusing
Quiz once a week. No matter how hard I studied, I couldn't get a better score than a D on her exams. Extremely hard. By some miracle I passed with a C, she's a great professor, but hard grader.
Great professor, if you like learning an entire subject on your own. Lectures are long, confusing, and all over the place. Often, she would take half the class to explain a scenario, only to tell you that, that is the incorrect way. And the correct answer was unclear. Overall, very confusing class. Read the book and do the practice problems!
Taking her for econ 1B this semester. It is much easier than the other ratings say she is. Really easy, and she does give a lot of extra credit throughout the class. There are daily quizzes, but they are pretty simple.
Professor Kim's econ 1b class overall very easy. She has a very solid background in her area of expertise, and her lectures are pretty clear although sometimes she jumps between different subjects. Her tests are very easy, as long as they are multiple-choice. Make use of the online supplement material called "my econ lab", and you will get an A.
This class is super hard, she firstly said that we could've bring home exam, but she changed to in class exam. I spent a night to study the test, and she gave no guild to help you understand the test material. I had been struggling through the whole semester and got denied by the university I applied because of this hard a,s. class.
This professor will not set you for success. Her class is not hard but instead unfair. Her lectures, extra credit and or online labs WILL not be anything like the tests. We are half way into the semester and about 70% of students dropped. She will definitely set you up for failure. Also, she leaves class early and runs away.
Jenni Kim is by far the WORST professor at PCC. She is awful, lectures are off topic, test on things she hasn't even covered in class. Her tests are tough and unreasonable, she doesn't make them and has no clue what it will be on it. So you are up for a surprise. There is no study guide, or guide of any sort! Please guys do NOT TAKE HER.
I had Jenni Kim during Spring 2016. I thought her class wasn't that difficult, but it was just hard to obtain an A. I did well on all three of the multiple choices test but her customized test, which contained free responses only. Try reading the book as the test is based on it, except the customized one -- based on her lecture.
Don't know why she has such a bad rating. She is a great professor that actually cares about her students. YES if you are lazy you'll definitely not pass. ECON1B is not an easy subject. She makes it easy for you to understand so if you pay attention and do your HW, it's not so crazy hard. And also she gives a TON of extra credit.
Never ever take her if you donot have a strong basis of econ!
You have tons of extra credit. DO IT. This class is very hard, shes a good teacher to learn from but she grades you based on the tests which are impossible. It's like studying for a Math class and the test is on Astronomy. I'm a straight B student and I am failing this class. I'm hoping to get a 100% on the next test to land a C- in the class.
Do yourself a favor and don't bother taking her! I took her class for Econ1B and by the end of the semester there were only 8 students left in the class. I had to retake the class. Her lectures aren't too bad but her exams will definitely crush you. Do not recommend taking her!!
She is by far the best professor I've had at PCC! Her lectures are fun, clear and understandable. You have to read the book to prepare well for the test because there is not enough time to teach all the concepts (she makes this clear at the beg. of semester). An A is perfectly doable in her class if you study for it. I wish I could take her again.
If you're an econ major and wanna be prepared for this major, take her class! The tests are challenging, so you need to spend time to understand the material completely. Taking notes helps you succeed bc the notes are ec. She gives many ec, so don't ever miss a class bc you will lose your chance to get ec. Don't have to take final if you have an A.
Took 1B over summer. Jenni is by no means easy, she wants her students to not only know the micro concepts but understand and apply them in real-world situations. This is a very rewarding class for those that are committed to understanding the subject and have an interest in microecon. Would not recommend if you need hand-holding. Would take again
Do not take! She is a tough grader and horrible at teaching concepts. She always leaves the class early and is not available after class. Super paranoid about cheaters and demands student ID
Took this class for Fall, beginning the semester is full of class, but about ten students at the end. The rest of students dropped this class . She said will have some questions from econ lab in exam, but there were none in all exams. If you know nothing about the economy, you have to work hard for this class. Even hard to get a B. Be aware
Make sure you're ready to eat, breathe, and live economics for 16 weeks if you take her. This is probably the most difficult class I took at Pcc but it was so worth it because shes really determined for you to learn. Her lectures are easy to follow but her exams are totally more advanced than what she teaches. She also gives a lot of EC!
Her class isn't hard at all. You just really have to put in the time to learn the material. Idk why she has a low rating she is an excellent professor who does everything she can to make sure you pass, but again you also have to do your part. An A is very achievable in her class.
Her lectures do not well prepare you for the exams as the questions are much harder compared with the lectures. Take her unless you have a really good foundation in economics, or you will have a hard time throughout the semester, seriously.
Honestly this class is not as bad as the review say. I took Dr. Kim for ECON 1B with her. If want to survive her class please read the book. Take lot of notes during class too. As long as you put in the effort its a pretty fun class. Her tests arent too bad, just study up. Dr. Kim is actually a cool professor if you get to know her.
Econ is and has always been a very heavy subject. Dr Kim is very animated during her lectures which helps because it's such a boring subject. She is very responsive to her students if you need to e-mail her or stop by for office hours. Her tests are easy as long as you study your notes and read the book. There are opportunities for extra credit
Awful professor ever, I went to class every time. I did all quizzes, extra credit , exams, I still didnt pass the class. I never ever failed since I started at PCC. If you think you are a genius , TAKE her then. If you are not, dont take her.
She is a good professor for Economics 1A; For Spring 2019 semester she changed her grading and and criteria. Assignments are optional, i would suggest to do them to help prep for exams. Exams all multiple choice. Have to study for this class and she is open to meetings to help you. Grade based of exams; gives extra credit assginment up to 30pts.
Econ 1A should be a simple class, especially since it is worth only 3 units. This professor makes this class feel like your entire life depends on it. The difficulty of this class is so unnecessary, especially if you arent even an Econ major. Dont sign up with this professor if you arent prepared to work double time for a good grade.
Don't take it if you are not prepared to study on your own. She is charming and funny but doesn't spend a lot of time preparing lectures. The good news is that the tests are based on the text. so if you read the book and do the online study guide that comes with a text (all of which are optional and there is no credit for that) you'll do fine.
I realized that she spends a lot of time on lecturing but it is still unclear. She is nice and caring. No homework or assignments but only tests and she barely gives extra credit. Make sure you do the mock exams/practice tests before the actual exams.
The class went online 4 weeks in due to COVID. She put in absolutely no effort into helping the students learn. She did not host Zoom meetings and only posted her lecture slides on Canvas and links to Khan academy. Grades were based on the top 2 grades from 3 exams, that's it. She put the least amount of effort out of any professor I've ever had.
Take her class she is the best Econ professor at PCC just take with her and you will pass
One of the best Econ professor she really care about students take with her
Took her class in the spring and because of covid-19, we had to do remote learning. She did no zoom meetings, only posted PowerPoint and khan Academy links. Economics is very complex and you were left to study 100% on our own. The tests were extremely hard and took a long time to give us our grades. Take her if you can learn on your own.
easiest economic class
I took Dr. Kims Econ 1A (Fall 2020) and 1B (Winter 2021) online class and I didn't have assignments. Dr. Kim respects students very much. She sets all quizzes and discussions as extra credits. My difficulties were not from the course design, but the acceptance and mastery of new knowledge like all other new courses I took.
I WOULD NEVER take her class again. My whole grade depended on 4 quizzes. Everything else doesn't do anything. It is lecture and reading heavy. Do not recommend.
Horrible teacher. Nothing but test and quizzes.
Your grade is pretty much only 5 exams, the lowest gets dropped. If you mess up there are no opportunities to fix it so I almost didnt get an A. Dont mess up
Grade is entirely based on 4 exams and final, all on quizlet. I only did 3 exams since the lowest gets dropped and final is optional. Literally spent like 3 hours on this class the entire semester lol
Don't take her class unless you have excellent self-study skills. If you want to get into economics, then her class won't help.I spent triple the amount of time on this 3 UNIT class as in a regular class. The only things that decide your grade are quizzes and exams and the only good thing is that she dropped the lowest exam.
i love abortions
Easy class. All we had were just quizzes and four exams. And she drops the lowest exam score. Her final exam is optional. Take her!
If you're looking for an easy economics class, this is it.
Easy A class. Took her for ECON1A and currently taking her for ECON1B. Grade consists of quizzes and 4 exams, all multiple-choice. Take her for sure!
Fairly easily course. Took over summer and workload was minimal.
Super easy A class. Mostly just quizzes and 4 exams. unstuckstudy was a lifesaver for practice questions. Attendance mandatory but textbook optional.
If you want an A, don't take this professor. The class itself isn't hard, and it's pretty easy to end up with a B as long as you do the work and pass the tests. But getting an A is HARD, the exams are long (50 questions, mcq, mostly graphs) and you have to score really high on them in order to get an A. VERY TEST HEAVY
Really easy class if you know what you're doing. I slacked off but had I tried, I'm sure I could have gotten an A. Her grading criteria is different from the norm; she only takes the top 3 tests, quizzes, and discussion boards. These points are totaled together and your grade is based off the amount of points you earned. Final was optional.
