She's easy! Grades papers pretty easy if your a good writer. Basically you can leave in the middle of class just sit in the back. For one assignment you eat cookies and tell the class which cookie is better. Its a very elementary class.

This class is not easy. I think she expected us all to be English majors and she grades papers accordingly. WAY too much reading and work for this class!

Very good teacher. Willing to help anyone who tries and asks for help. Grades fairly and gives great critisism to help you improve your writing skills. Anyone should be able to pass the regents after taking her course. I highly recommend you take class

She was a very nice teacher who makes the class interesting. As long as you do the essays she assigns and pay attention you will do fine. Not to mention she gives alot of help to her students. All you have to do is ask.

She's a very helpful teacher. Her criticism on papers helps you develop your writing thru the semester. It may not be the most exciting class, it's definitely beneficial. Lets you know what will be on your exam and how to study for it. Not necessary to go to class but be sure to turn in all papers

Probably one of the best English teachers I've ever had she is easy to talk too. Her quizes are easy as long as you read the assignments lot of pages but nothing to challenging very laid back and very understanding. Just an all around great person.

She was very clear about her expectations. She is understanding and takes great time to help you out. She will even proof research papers before you turn them in and you can take care of the problems before you turn your paper in!

She was a kick ass teacher. I am taking her again for 1102. I highly recommend her. All you have to do is your papers and show up for class every once and a while. She is the best.

Lots of quizzes, just do the reading and its easy. Gives study guide of terms before exams. Pretty easy going about late work. Class though, is very boring, and usually not even worth staying after taking the quiz. Exams are a bit unclear as she ask you to explain an excerpt out of the reading and she's a bit picky about it.

She's a good teacher if you want to be taught. If you're a slacker and just want to get the grade then leave...try someone else.

Possibly one of the most helpful professors at GPC. Very clear in her expectations and requirements, will proofread papers.

Wonderful teacher! Really gets the class involved in the lectures. Dr. Stearns will proof read papers for you if you get them to her in time. Very nice of her. Put into the class what you want to get out of it and you will be fine. She tells you what she wants.

She is very helpful, and flexible as long as you are in class. She grades easy on the quizes and hw assingments, but harder on the papers.

Dr. Stearns is one of the most helpful professors in school. If you ask her for feedback on a paper, she goes out of her way to make sure you get what you need. I've never had a professor that would proof your papers BEFORE they were due. Yes, she grades papers meticulously (picky?), but her comments are always helpful. Lazy students need not apply

Dr. Stearns is a sweetheart. She'll help you with whatever you need help on. If you email her she will email you back really quickly and she really wants her students to do well. The discussions about the readings can be BORING but besides that she's awesome

Took her for a minimester.. Got a B on every essay... made up for it with quizzes and daily work.. gave me an A in the course. Read the assigned homework, she quizzes over it!!! Disorganized but a good teacher.

Dr. Stearns is uncommonly helpful in reviewing papers, and creatively assists with assignments. Truly a master of her art. Prepare to be creative; she's not interested in reading the same obvious paper. Dr. Stearns's taste in shoes is impeccable.

Dr. Stearns is so helpful when it comes to papers. She lets us give her our papers early and she gives us comments on how to make them better so we can get a better grade. She also keeps our attention in class.

Dr. Stearns a wonderful English teacher. She helped me with my introductions and my the end of the semester my introductions went from being general and borning to specific and creative. She was a good English 1101 professor and I'm glad I had her.

Awesome lecturer! Extremely helpful and encourages great classroom discussion. Dr. Stearns has great historical knowledge when it comes to 19th century literature. Lots of writing but well worth it: you will learn the MLA format well! One of the best teachers I've ever had.

Her lisp got on my nerves after a while and so did her disorganization. I tried so hard to get an A and she didn't give one out to anyone in the class. We ALL got B's.

I don't know what the other people are talking about, Dr. Stearns was pretty organized most of the time for my class. She is very nice and helpful, and her door is always open if you need help. Good class whether you love or hate English/writing.

She seems to be unorganized. However, she keeps all of the papers that you turn in and returns them to you graded. I got a B in her class but I didn't turn in all of my QHQ's..my fault, not hers. She is a wonderful teacher. Very helpful. Would take her 1102 class if I could.

Other than being a bit disorganized and scatterbrained at times, she both an an excellent and kind professor. Very helpful - she reviewed and corrected errors on essay drafts before the papers were due, responds to e-mails, etc..

Anyone who does not pick her as a teacher is crazy. She was always there to help and never minded. She might be unorganized with her own things but she keeps your things and does not lose them, and returns them to you graded and neat the way you have given it to her. Because of her i passed my class with a 97. She made english really easy :)

LOVED Dr. Stearns!! She was so helpful and hilarious! Lots of discussion in class, all about pop culture, so much more interesting than traditional literature! Was willing to proof read work, and very understanding if you have to miss a due date (but don't take advantage od that!) Perfect class for anyone with a strong writing background!

Easy grader if you put firth a little work. Very nice lady. Always willing to help & extends deadlines if need be. Kinda scatterbrained & disorganized sometimes but I loved having her. Defininitely recommend her!

We did a lot more discussion about the class theme rather than lecturing on grammar, MLA, etc...she tries to make the class interesting rather than boring, but will still go over the things that many people are having trouble with. Allows you to send her drafts and will send you back suggestions on what to fix, which can really help your grade!

She is a great and very helpful teacher. Her emphasis is on learning not on grades. She is very approachable and will answer emails within an hour. The essays are not easy, but she explains all the steps using real examples from other papers. She will proof-read papers knowing that mistakes a a normal part of learning.

Dr. Stearns is nice and is a good professor. With essays and papers she is somewhat picky (especially with grammar), but she's really just trying to help us become stronger writers. I'd take her again. (She also wears the cutest clothes)

Absolutely wonderful teacher! She doesn't review material like most teachers do. She only focuses on material that the class has trouble with. Therefore I ended up learning a lot in her class!

Funny teacher! Love her. Very helpful. Essay assignments are a little hard to understand, but she is very willing to help you. Emails back quickly as well as texting! Gives you advice on how to start papers as well!

I never liked English until I studied with Prof. Stearns. She's quite strict and demanding. I almost dropped the course because it was too challenging. Dr. Stearns was an amazing professor in my opinion. I wouldn't say she was easy, she wants you to put effort into your work. But if you come to class, do your work, and try, there is no reason you wont get a good grade. She is SUPER helpful if you ever feel like you're stuck on something and is also SUPER flexible if "life" happens every so often.

I do not like her way of teaching I must admit, but she is VERY NICE and she will help you only if you ask for help otherwise she won't help you. Personally I would not recommend her, but if your the type of person that is a self starter than you should be fine in her class. The work is fairly easy.

Confusing method of teaching, but very willing to help each student until they get it. She really does care about her student's success. She's really sweet and forgiving when it comes to grading and late work as long as you've shown yourself to be a good student. She saved my behind with this class and I actually learned a lot. Would recommend!

Dr. Stearns was awesome. Super cool and makes class interesting. Most helpful professor I've had at GGC. I've texted her questions about essays at like 11:00PM and got clear responses almost immediately. A little slow on grading. Essays are extended pretty often. Quizzes on reading are easy and 2 are dropped. BUY THE BOOK. It will save your life.

She was nice but, never graded any assignments. I didn't know what I made on the MLA test (submitted in Oct.) until Dec. I never got a single grade on any paper I submitted, not even the final paper. If I spend time writing a paper I want to know my grade. She rambles a lot and will use the whole class time.

You have one test and you have a lot of time to take it and multiple tries. TAKE THEM! All the other assignments are papers so take your time, submit the drafts for feedback, and write them well. I slept in her class a majority of the time, but she was still helpful when I had some personal struggles. So ask for help when you need it.

Had her this past fall 2015 semester. This class was too easy. Deadlines were always pushed weeks back, making it almost impossible not to get an A. IMO she's an easy grader. I wrote a paper 2 hrs before it was due w/out editing and made an A. I took away nothing from the class, it was easier than all my ENG HS classes. But anyway prof Stearns rox!

Dr. Stearns is an excellent Professor. She does not have tests of any kind. She has a lot of quizzes, which are usually on the reading material assigned as homework. She will give you a good grade as long as you continue to improve from your previous essays. However, you should be weary of the "Kiss of Death" list, frequently reference it.

She grades pretty easy and always gives feedback on your papers. Considering this class is all about writing good college papers she is very helpful. There are a lot of quizzes. Whenever there is a reading there will be a quiz. DO THE READING OR YOU WON'T PASS THE QUIZ.

Dr Stearns was a great professor. She always helped me whenever I needed it and allows you to turn in multiple drafts of everything before you submit a final copy. She genuinely cares about her students and it shows.

Great class, one of the first teachers I have had who gives examples of what particular assignments should look like. If you have questions she about anything always gives great helpful tips to make it more clear. Must read, expect quiz every class period. Only two tests, one paper, one presentation and reading responses. Best teacher ever.

Dr. Stearns is very nice and helpful! She is absolutely sweet and taking good care of her students. However, you will have to read a lot of materials to do Pop quizzes before class. I don't like that part. Also for 1102 class, she required a higher level than the 1101 so do not be lazy!

I love this professor. She definitely challenges you but in the end you learn to use her skills in writing. And if you do take her do the MLA test asap and email her so you get a good feedback and a good grade. (Do this early in the semester)

Be sure to do the MLA/APA tests as soon as you're able to, it'll help you in the long run. She's a tough grader when it comes to her papers, be sure to ask her for help because she'll guide you down the right path. Also be sure to do the reading for her quizzes, she ask's for the SMALLEST details. Other than that she's a pretty cool professor.

Dr. Stearns by far my favorite professor Ive ever had. She talks a lot but you wont get bored if you are taking 1102 take the mla/apa rest ASAP and send results a lot shell give you hints. Her papers are fairly easy shell always work with you if you put in effort in her class and out!

I love Prof. Stearns ! She is a great teacher and she goes above and beyond to make sure you understand the material. She is NOT an easy Professor. She makes you work for your grade. If you dont do the work, you will probably fail. She does talk a lot during class and she doesnt always manage class time well. But, other than that she is awesome !

She is an awesome English professor that I had ever have, she willing helps you to get an A from her. The quizzes almost take home. She gives you 100 for your attendance since the beginning of the class. As long as you don't absent too much, you will be fine! Highly recommend her!!!

Fairly easy class that I would take again. She is so sweet but talks a lot so class can get boring. You can tell she's genuinely passionate about teaching. Start on the citation test AS SOON as she assigns them. She grades kind of slow so try to keep up with your assignments and how well you think you did to estimate your own final grade.

Dr. Stearns was one of the most caring professors i have ever had. She really cares about her students and is very accessible. We had a good amount of assignments but she made she we knew exactly what we were doing. I'd take her a million times over!

She cares very much, but she rambles on about non sense. At first i really did not like her and thought she was weird. I at first did not think i would pass and many dropped out. But gives so much extra time, extra credit and overall will sit with you till 10pm telling you specifically what you did wrong and how to fix it. Overall i loved her!

She cares about her students and makes an effort to give good feedback and work with your needs. This class is easy if you make the time. Do the citation test early!! The main issue I had with her was grading time. It takes a very long time to get your assignments back, but they do have good feedback/suggestions. She does ramble some, as well.

She works extremely hard for her students. She is always open to hold conferences to discuss your paper before it is submitted, and she allows you several opportunities to meet her grading criteria to get an A. The expectations of the class are laid out in the syllabus and she follows it well, you will get an A in this class period.
