So nice!
incredibly intelligent and kind. dedicated to her job and students.
Dr. Ackil is an awesome prof. Her tests are hard, but fair, and never on anything she hasn't discussed in class. She's very clear and VERY helpful.

She was a very helpful and easy to understand professor. I took General and Cognitive Psych with her.

Great class, knows what she is talking about and is able to convey it to the class.
Very organized, helpful, and concise...emphasizes what is important...tests based on lecture...
She is a great person and a great teacher. If you go to class and pay attention you'll do really well on the tests. Her tests are very straight forward from lecture. I didn't open the text book at all.
Great prof. Very helpful, very knowledgable. She is very nice and will help if you need it. Her test are difficult, but if you study you will do ok. I thought she was interesting.
She's awesome!
I was very impressed with her teaching style. She almost made me switch majors my freshman year, but my love for dentistry was too strong.
Ackil rocks
She was a good teacher. Make sure you study because her tests rely on the book a lot. The class was boring because it was mostly all lecture. She is open to answering any questions students have.
Ackil is tough but it is worth taking a class from her-you learn a lot.
really nice! cute lady. Good at explaining things
Great Prof - knows her stuff and is good at teaching the kids in a way we understand. Take her classes!!
NO STUDY GUIDE
She's an awesome prof and is willing to help as much as she can. But you better study for her tests cause they're hard.
She is very intelligent and tough, but if you read and go to class it isn't too difficult.
she's tough but really fair, she's very willing to help but you have to ask for it she won't seek you out, a really nice woman

She is understand and caring. Talk to her if you encounter any problems. Read the book and use the workbook and take advantage of extra credit because it can really pump up your grade.

Her tests are really hard, but if you study frequently you'll do ok. Lectures can be a little boring, but overall helpfull and informative. She gives good notes.
Tests are very hard. Make sure you read the book and study your notes. Lectures can get pretty boring.
really good prof. cares about students a lot. hard tests but ask for help whenever you need it. she is more than willing to chat. make sure to read the book and take good notes
She is very fun, and makes the topics interesting
tests are real hard when you dont study...
had a couple classes with her, she was excellent in both
Ackil is an awesome prof. She uses powerpoints, which makes notes easy, and she does demonstrations. This is an interesting class and she teaches it really well. Her tests are all multiple choice, and no papers all semester.
You will have to study, not easybut she gives well thought out, clear lectures. More than willing to help you if you need it. Very smart lady.
Delivers extremely well-planned, clear lectures in cognitive. The material can be difficult but an A is achievable by coming to class, taking notes, keeping up with the reading, and studying a moderate amount. She is MORE than willing to help in any way that she can and is very flexible when it comes to extraneous circumstances...
Very clear and well planned lectures. Very interesting information. I learned a lot in her class. Tests are usually based on lecture notes.
Ackil is the best prof I've had at Gustavus so far. Her lectures are very organized with power points and she gives good examples to further explain the material. If you take good notes and go over them along with the experiments she assigns for class you should have no problem on her tests.
Too technical, doesn't make psychology relatable or interesting.
Very clear and concise during lecture. On the level with students and willing to help. Definitely have to study for exams, but everything is based off of lecture.
Extremely nice. Willing to help in any way. Lectures aren't too boring, and tests are based almost completely on them. Test questions can be wordy, but not too bad. Overall, great prof. Really passes on her love of psychology.
Great professor. She goes almost completely out of the book. Her powerpoints are clear and easy to understand. She's not the most exciting professor, but not boring. Good at explaining things. I recommend reading the book before you come to class, just because then you know what she's talking about, and you'll get more out of it.
Show up and maybe read the chapters on occasion for review and you'll do fine. She's very helpful and clearly loves what she does. Despite being a lecture, it is an enjoyable class. She has a great personality!
did fairly well in her class, read the material, took the tests, but from day 1, she seemed not to like me, and for some reason had a negative attitude toward me for all of January... It kind of bothered me to have a prof treat me so poorly in a class for my major...
Her tests are directly based upon her notes. She is very nice, and explains the material very well!! Definately would recommend taking. I also thought she kinda had a sense of humor, will her interesting stories or analagies..
She is one of the best professors at Gustavus. Very clear lectures. Tests are extremely fair and are on relivent information. If you take good notes and study them you will do great on exams.
So far professor Ackil is one of my favorite at Gustavus. A lot of people thought her tests were tough, but she does a good job at testing you to see if you actually know the material. She knew my name without me ever even talking to her and she cares for her students. A great professor!
She is a really great professor. She is very nice, helpful, and understanding. Her powerpoints are done very nicely and go great with the text.
She's intimidating but helpful if you pay attention to lectures. Mostly everything she talks about is on the test, so study your notes more than reading the textbook.
Even though her tests were hard, she was a very good teacher. I feel like I learned a lot. She's kind of slow when you e-mail her for information, but if you talk to her in person she's definitely helpful. She wants you to do well!
Prof Ackil seemed nice enough at the beginning of the semester. Her power points are simple and informative but unimaginative. She is always very clear in class. She however decided she did not like me about halfway through and has since been cold and harsh towards me. It is very sad to be treated such in my major classes.
Very helpful, tests entirely on concepts and in-class discussion. Read the textbook only for background info, testing is only on what you learn in class.
I loved Ackil's class. She was extremely clear on what you need to know. The class requires work like all classes but there wasn't any busy work and I really felt like I learned a lot. Her examples make everything easy to remember. Definitely a class to take if you get the chance.
Proffesor Ackil is hands down the best prof. She is clear about what she wants from you and clear in her lecture. She is also very funny and extremely helpful to her students. Tests are tough and come mostly from her lecture rather than in the book. Her class requires you to put much effort but you'll learn lots!
Cares a lot about the subject and her students and is always there when you need help.
Her Lectures are interesting and helpful. If you pay attention in class and take class notes you should be fine. Study for her Exams! If you are struggling in her class go to her office hours for help. She might seem intimidating, but she is the best! If you want an easy A, this in not the class for you. Could have done better if I read the book.
She is a horrible teacher with a shrill voice. Her grading is very inconstant. This class is a huge waste of time and should not be required for any degree.
Ackil is a very fun and charismatic professor, but don't let that lull you into a false sense of security, because she's also a brutal grader. She's going to want details and precision, so you best be prepared to drill research articles into your head. She's more than happy to explain how to improve as well.
Dr. Ackil is eager to answer questions before/after class and wants her students to understand fully. Studying is a must-3 tests are 75% of the semester grade. Studying the research studies is highly recommended. The textbook is a good reference but she tests on what is covered in lectures during class-Take notes! Hard class but I learned a lot!
A solid professor. Her lectures weren't too exciting, but they were nothing to complain about. She often wants you to remember very specific details from studies and videos for the test. I wouldn't mind taking one of her classes again, but I'd probably choose another if one was available.
STAY AWAY! She is a horrible grader and incorrectly submitted my final grade and wouldn't change it to the correct grade! Organized lectures but the tests were beyond impossible to pass.
Test heavy. Be ready to read the textbook. Online exams are timed with minimal time. Didnt even do syllabus first day, did notes
Prof. Ackil is very test heavy when it comes to grading. However if you take notes in class and review the material she hands out you will be fine. She does not test on anything in the textbook, and if she does it will be mentioned in class. Her lectures are very engaging and interesting, her class is challenging but probably my the best one I took
Although a nice person, a horrible professor. She is an extremely harsh grader. You will not receive full credit if you do not write your responses in the EXACT way she wants them. A slight change of wording and she will take away points. Her exams are brutal; the questions are very specific and are written to trick you.
This class was mandatory for the psychology major, and while Ackil was very kind, I would not retake this course due to the heavy and difficult tests.
I would say that she teaches well, and knows what she is doing, but fails to connect with her students. I did not feel any act of empathy, and was hard to communicate with her. When asked about materials from class or confusion about a topic I was laughed at, and told to "not get upset" about it. The exams are fairly hard, and require application.
Professor Ackil clearly cares about her course material and gives interesting lectures. I'd say that there are definitely easier general psych profs that you should probably take instead considering that exams are difficult to study for (because they're application based) and are in person (while most of the other psych profs have theirs online).
The class is mostly formatted where you go there, listen to her speak, then leave. There are some online quizzes/ minor assignments, but most of the class is graded on the tests. The tests were pretty difficult, but not horrible if you studied. They are multiple choice.
Professor Ackil is awesome. She is super nice and genuinely wants the best for you. She is very clear about grading + expectations, and honestly all you have to do to do well in the class is understand the lecture content + study up some terms and you're set. She never tests anything that she does not talk about in class. Keep up on articles though
Her Introductory Psych class was almost entirely lectures, with very few assignments and lots of quizzes and tests. I did not enjoy her class, and found it rather hard. She is a tough grader on the assignments and her test questions are intended to trick you. She is nice enough as a person, but I did not enjoy her as a professor.
tests are hard ASF
just noooooo
Caring prof. If you study the lectures YOU WILL BE FINE. That being said you need to take good notes on the lectures and on the papers you read for the class.
Very harsh grader, only tests on what she teaches during lecture. Is very condescending, towards everyone. Very hard exams and very few assignments. So your grade depends on the exams. One of the worst professors at GAC.
Professor Ackil was definitely very well educated in knowing what she was talking about but you will not have a connection with her. The class is lecture the whole time and you need to do research on your own because things will be on the test that she did not cover in class. She is a very hard grader and wants your work perfect.
Ackil was great for Psych. She is a super tough grader and her lectures are long but full of info. If you show up to class and study I think you will find the class to be super interesting. Overall she is a great person and cares about each student.
Her teaching style depends on the person. If you're good at taking in info and fine learning most of the material on your own, you'll do well. But if you're like me and need hands-on, interactive learning, she barely does that. If you want to succeed, go to her office hours a lot. It's awkward, but she gives tons of wiggle room once she knows you.
