This professor is cut throat. Not sure what she expected out of students. Perfection is what she expects like we dont already have 3 other classes to worry about. Alot of points are deducted for small errors and not enough credit for what is right which is most of it. CRAZY Lady! Would not recommend at all!
She is one of the best teachers I have ever had.Yes, she has high expectations but I am paying for these classes to educate me-not treat me like a sheltered child. I have learned more in her classes ( I have taken both 1301 and 1302) than I have ever learned in my entire academic career. She holds students to a high standard-as a professor should.
BEWARE!!!! This teacher should NOT be teaching online courses and should reconsider teaching history, because all she was focused on was my writing. I turned in a semester essay: on time, in proper format, & met the length requirements. Just because she did not think my essay was perfect I received a 0! Yes a 0! Horrible teacher, not helpful 1 bit!
DO NOT TAKE CLASSES WITH HER!!! I am a professional student and I took HIST 2321 for a refresher. I ended up dropping her class due to her not accepting any "excuse" due to late work, or even if your internet goes down and you miss a quiz. PLEASE think 3 or 4 times before taking any of her classes. I would not recommend her at all!!!
THis is the worst teacher I ever had. I was on good grading as A, and then I forgot to submit my 8 quizzes late 1 day. As the result, I have 8 zeros for those quizzes. I absolutely fail the class. She gave you 30 extra credit for 900 total. Her test are extremely hard!!!!
Dr. Allen is a tough one. She expects a lot, which is appropriate but can be Very harsh. I made a high A, solely due to my advanced skill and love of writing. Many of my contemporaries failed because there was little history involved. I did not learn very much from her. There was little teaching. I found myself hating a subject I once loved.
Tough but fair. Will edit papers and assignments if you ask. Doesn't accept late work, which can hurt if you're not organized.
I love this subject matter. The teacher, not so much.
took online course, lots of quizzes 18 overall for every chapter and quizzes and test are not easy facts you really have to search for them! You need to really read every chapter to pass and the final is not comprehensive and is pretty difficult! She does offer some extra credit that is not hard so that helps! Her essays though are sort of long.
syllabus is long but tells you what you need to pass offers extra credit options answers emails quick can be tedious
all assignments are available the first day of class can finish early for extra credit lots of reminders emailed
The quizzes were near impossible to pass since some questions had multiple valid answers. Her lectures barely covered test material so you'd have to read nonstop for that class. The tests were easier than the quizzes, but the quizzes will destroy your grade if you don't read the chapter three times. Believe me, I know.
there were participation points for class work and it was tough because it was a winter class, but Dr. Allen was quick to answer grading or assignment questions and walked you through the writing and exam two.
took in winter, was clear and reviewed the exams, answers email quick
extra credit options were there teacher reads email and responds fast will explain if you ask - is helpful
She was the worst teacher I have ever had. I tried multiple times asking for feedback on things I had gotten an average grade on so I could do better, but got uninformative and generic responses that didn't help at all. I followed the syllabus to the letter and somehow still wasn't doing something right which she wouldn't explain. Pick someone else
She is so rude in her responses. She does have a straight forward syllabus , but I feel she does not follow her rubric on grading essays at all. I followed directions , and received half credit because of grammatical errors. She does give extra credit which helps us drag along .
I took her during the May semester for history 1302. This professor is hilarious and very fun to have. She makes history enjoyable and shows a strong passion on the subject. As long as you show up and pay attention, you'll understand things in this class very well. I signed up to take her again for history 1301 this summer.
If you want to be a history teacher than I recommend her, but if you want to learn history and get to know more about history then NO. If you have more than one class or so than no because she expects perfection. I mean PERFECTION.
I did not get to learn much from the class and a lot of tests. History is more about learning the past, but I did not get to learn because some of the quizzes had nothing to do with the text book.
Listen to her lectures, they aren't going to bore you and they'll help you pass the class. She makes the subject more interesting and tolerable!
She's an average teacher with tons of expectations. Don't get me wrong, she's obviously not going to baby us students, but if there's anything wrong with grammar, there goes 50% of your grade. She tries to make her lectures as modern as possible, but they're the worst paralleled examples I've ever received. If I fail, I'm looking to someone else.
She gives a TON of extra credit but also lots of writing assignments. Another class that just takes a little bit of hard work, but otherwise, easy A. Learn what she wants from the document analysis and it's easy!
Jennifer is a HORRIBLE professor. Her grading is strict but her teaching is pathetic. I asked for help, on a assignment, but she was very curt... replying back go to "history tutoring". However, I do not advise her for ANYONE.
lots of extra credit if you miss assignments
there's no way someone can fail this class. she has a lot of quizzes but of you do your reading you will do fine. she has a lot of extra credit which can easily help you bust your grade. her lectures are fun.
Doesnt return emails in a timely manner. Has a horrible attitude, and she is never at her office. However, she does offer ton of extra credit.
Prof. Allen's class was my toughest class so far. I liked that her assignments were challenging and out of the norm but It is discouraging when you work hard for nothing. She deducted so many points for small mistakes that I ended up with my first and hopefully only C even tho I did several extra credit activities. Answers emails quick enough.
If you have not taken English 1301 yet do not take this class! Her grading standards are that of an English professor , she will not give you any credit if you submit your Analysis Paper without perfect MLA standards or grammatical errors . She does offer extra credit volunteering your time , but if you have no time to spare your screwed !
She gives tons of extra credit through out the semester. You can do as many EC as you want she gives no limit. Only need to reach 900 points to get an A in the class. If you reach 900 before final you can be exempt. She is an amazing professor
Dr. Allen overall is a great and intelligent professor. It is nearly impossible to fail the class, simply read your book and pay attention in class in order to pass your exams. Most difficult part of the class is the primary analysis.
She offers tons of extra credit, loved her class! It's an easy A. Also, you can work ahead on your assignments. Ps, beware of the Primary Source Analysis, start that one as soon as possible. Her tests are online and the answers can be found online as well.
So unprofessional over online course. Assigns hard essays with BASIC criteria, but then failed me on my analysis for not meeting the criteria even though my analysis was eight whole pages. Will not take her class again for more mediocre grades.
Her classes are ok, but she is a really tough grader. I presented my analysis paper on time with 2 pages per question (total 10 pages) and I earn 0/100 because I copied the question itsefl. Some students told me they earned 0 /100 and I didnt believe it, but after this I wont take her anymore!! I would earn the same 0 if I wouldnt done anything
The first exam 100 questions to answer in 1 hour and 20 min. Most of the people fail text one. Primary source analysis is very important some people scored 0 or 10/100 because they copy the question. You can pass this class because of extra credit, not because you learn. If you want to learn don't take her.
She's a terrific professor, but she's strict on her grading and it helps you grow as a student 10/10 recommend
I definitely recommend you having Dr. Allen for your history classes.
She is a really good professor. I mean you can't just sit in class and expect to pass , but if you do the work , study for test you will do fine. Highly recommend
Highly recommend
If you can get another professor, I would do that! She is a very tough grader! There are 4 essays due and if they do not meet her minimum requirements (which are a lot), she will automatically give you zero points! Also the tests are hard, You have 11 quizzes that are 25 questions but you only get 30mins for each one.
Dr. Allen is a wonderful teacher. Her directions for assignments are all posted online and available at the beginning of the semester. Her directions are very specific. As long as you read, show up to class, follow directions and complete assignments on time, you will ace this class. Expectations are very clear.
She is a tough grader, no very caring. When I finish the Primary Source Analysis I sent 10 pages, 12 pages with work cited and I earn "0" because I copy and paste the questions... mid term you have 100 questions in 1H and 20 Minutes... Mostly dates and names... I wish I would had another teacher.
too much!
Too many quizzes and homework.
Run, just run as far away as possible from this class. Especially if history isn't an important part of your major. This class is too much. All of it. I recommend anyone wanting to take History 1302 to take the course with professor Cameron Sinclair. I have heard MANY good things about him.
Dr. Allen is a great professor! Yes, the assignments can be difficult and she is a tough grader, but I enjoyed taking her class. If you work hard, it will totally pay off. Do not forget any assignments, but if you do make sure to take advantage of the extra credit opportunities. So cool how she lets you donate pet supplies!
Please SWIM AWAY.
Hard grader.
WORST TEACHER EVER!! RUN AWAY FROM HER!!
HORRIBLE teacher! Six papers, timed tests that provide .5 secs to answer a question, and extra credit if you donate money to her dog charity! PUSHES tutoring -getting a kick back? This core class is like an advanced history class, if you planned on getting a degree in history. DO NOT TAKE this professor-you will HATE history if you do!
lots of reading grading scale is clear extra credit options
grades hard but clear read the book for quizzes took online, can work ahead
can work ahead hard papers, but prof will edit if you ask
tough prof if you read you will ace the class
Very cut and dry. Non flexible. She does respond to emails but she comes across as very dry in emails.
not overly friendly, but has clear directions
You will hate history if you take this class! 8 papers, quiz for each chapter, doesnt teach from book so dont bother doing end of chapter questions. Less than 30 seconds to answer questions on timed test. Im in the honor society, and this teacher is needlessly difficult.
I took her for both my History 1301 and 1302. I took her online classes, she gives a lot of work but posts everything the first day of class so you can work at whatever pace you want, which I really enjoyed because I was taking other classes so I got this class done so I had time to work on my other classes. Such a great soul and easy to talk to.
I took her for History 1301 and shes incredibly difficult and strict. She gives a ton of work with barely any time to finish. She also really enjoys giving out 0s. She makes you legit hate history and history is one of my favorite courses. Dont take this class, especially not online. Not a good class at all.
I took her online course and it was very easy to get an A. Just do your work and you should be able to also get an easy A. There is a lot of work to do but the quizzes and tests were mostly on quizlet and as long as you follow the criteria, you'll get a 100 on every reflection.
Was a decent professor. Loves to lecture but will answer your questions if you have any. Homework and Tests were all online which was really convenient. Has a dry sense of humor but tries to make class enjoyable.
I took her class online to get dual credit. I never touched the textbook and was absoutely fine. Test/quiz answers can be easily found online. I was worried about writing essays, considering my lack of usage of the textbook, but she is a very easy grader. I never emailed her so I don't know how she handles emails, but overall, I was very pleased!
This professor is not fair and her syllabus is very confusing! if you did not do homework on time or had a technical issue with computer, she will NEVER give you another chance. I got a C in her class only bc my computer was frozen and I couldn't submit my work . When i asked for her help she simply refused.
Difficult class to be in as professor isnt flexible or understanding!
If youre looking for a class than can give you a good grade... this is it! Quizzes are the most tedious part. Other than that there are 3 reflections, 3 discussion board and 3 exam. Shes a good grader. Just stick to the due dates and youll be fine. Would take this class again !
Horrible teacher. All she ever talked abt was her dog during the lectures and she still expected us to pass her class?!? And when you do essays, she wants them in COMPLETE MLA format. She won't even accept if you make it do one mistake.
I took the class and read the syllabus. DEadlines were clear, lots of extra credit. She is fair and quick to answer emails.
all assignments are avaiable on the first day of class so it helps, lots of extra credit, will answer emails and helpful
took online, lots of extra credit, could work ahead she will return emails i never cracked the book
Her lectures are fun, she is a sweet person, and she gives great feedback on essays. However, her lectures only cover a little bit of what is on the exam and she expects that students prepare themselves for the exams with the textbook. That is not too bad because the material is easy. She gives a lot of extra credit and is strict about attendance.
Unfortunately this professor likes to gives 0's when you have any technical issue WHATSOEVER and will NOT let you make it up (even if you are a straight A student). She was hands off during the class and very dry in emails, not very helpful. YES this class is an easy A, unless ANYTHING happens while trying to turn in an assignment. Good luck!
I will never take this Professor again. History 1301; 4-week class. If you have a full-time job & a child it is almost impossible to actually read all the material for this class in 4 weeks. YOU NEED THE BOOK. I'm very disappointed in this class. She only grades assignments on word count. Content doesn't matter. I dont think she even reads them UGH
4 weekI was disappointed in this class as I actually wanted to learn the material. Easy A but you MUST follow her guidelines. If your word count isnt as stated you get a ZERO. No exceptions. She also gives no feedback, & Im not sure she even reads the assignments. Waste of my time
I will never take this Professor again. It was so wasting my 16 weeks with History 1301. She never respects other people. No mercy No elasticity She is so picky and not professional. I want to give a rate of 0.1. I want to say don't take this class. Awful
Although the semester isn't exactly finished yet, I'm quite positive that I'll get an A, so I'll go ahead and type. Professor Allen is a very easy grader. You'll get an easy A for every assignment as long as you turn in your work in time. They are a lot of work, but totally worth it. Just don't procrastinate or else you'll regret it.
I am not a fan of history but Professor Allen made it enjoyable. She cares for her students and is so sweet. I would 10/10 recommend her.
I took the class online in May, and I will get an A. She is an easy grader and gives you the assignments all at once.
no surprises, gives assignments at once, easy to get an A if you follow directions
she gave assignments so students could work ahead, worked with me because i was dropped accidentally - she responded to emails quickly
online summer class and it was easy, not alot of assignments but could get done early
no surprises, standard course
I took history online and she was easy to take. My emails were answered quick. No extra credit and I wished there was.
Online class, gotta read the chapters to pass but its easy.
Some assignments but all are easy - no primary source assignment in the summer so I'm glad. I could work ahead, and Dr. Allen answered emails fast. I will take her class again.
No extra credit but I took it during summer. Online was easy. Teacher is nice.
Make sure to check the syllabus. Dr. Allen's has specific guidelines and she is clear about them. Overall, great professor.
Dr. Allen is very professional down to earth she loves what she does and is very passionate about teaching History. do your assignments you will pass.
I am not done with the class, but Dr. Allen has been very helpful. I had Covid and could not submit work but she has worked with me. I read the other reviews and was kind of worried but she has been great!
Professor Allen was vague in feedback and took forever to grade. It was very difficult to understand her train of thought and most of the time her assignments were irrelevant to the course and she called for too much work.
Dr. Allen is not helpful, you will need to go to outside sources just to pass with a C. Her criteria are extremely stringent and are ridiculous. It seems like she grades based on superficial criteria she sets like random word count and grammar instead of content. Provides no feedback and only rambles about her dog.
Prof Allen is terribly unresponsive, her assignments were odd and left little room to interpret the prompt. Peculiar lectures where she rambles and does not really teach to the point. 0/10 would not recommend. Assignments were not related to the unit material, do not take
Terribly unresponsive, her assignments were odd and left little room to interpret the prompt. Peculiar lectures where she rambles and does not really teach to the point. 0/10 would not recommend. Assignments were not related to the unit material, do not take
I read the recent reviews, and I am not sure what class they took, but Dr. Allen was really nice. I had a death in the family and she worked with me to rearrange the deadlines. As long as you contact her, she will work with you.
Dr. Allen was really clear with grading assignments. As long as you submit the assignments on time and make half an attempt, you will do fine with the work. She answered emails (I was online) and it was easy to work with her.
We had extra credit in our section. She posted videos on social media to help. I think history is boring but Dr. Allen made it tolerable. If you do nothing in the class, you will fail it, but her class is easy to pass.
Dr Allen is a more than fair professor. She gives plenty of reminders about due dates, is very transparent on what she is looking for in assignments, and offers a very clear path to getting an A in his class.
Really interesting and nice. Lots of reading to do from the text, but she goes over it in class. Highly highly recommend this professor!
You have two chances to take the exams and the higher grade counts. She will read your reflection papers before they are due if you ask her and edit them. PRofessor Allen does not accept late work, but everything is available to do on the first day of class.
Great teacher, class is not easy, but you wont have a problem if you come to class and do your work.
She tells you what you need to do to pass. She gives extra credit throughout the semester and is available outside of class.
Quite honestly, I'm not sure why Dr Allen has average marks on here. Although I haven't met her in person as I do her class online, she's very fair with her grading, clear on her instructions and expectations from her students, very responsive and super helpful in her e-mails, and her meme game is on point.
I took hist1302 and at the same time she took over my 1301 class. Her assignments are clear and thorough, respond promptly to emails, gives feedback, lots of extra credit, and even writes her own essays to give an example. Prof Allen is on IG and gives lectures there as well. I received an A+ in both classes. Definitely recommend
I am in her online class this summer and it is easy. Class assignments were available before the course started so I was able to get ahead. This is not a hard course, and easy to do if you read the syllabus and follow the deadlines.
I took World Civ to get it out of the way from Prof Allen and it was easy. The book is included, but I did not read very much. The quizzes and exams come from the book. Discussion boards are easy. Just do the work and you will get an A.
fairly straight forward class, there are 3 short essays and the rest of your points mostly come from reading quizzes and exams about the textbook. if you take online you can just have the textbook open on the side.
EZ class if you take it during the wintermester. I have not put much effort into the class at all. Everything is open from day 1, so you can finish it within a week. Enjoy!
I took Professor Allen's class because my success coach wanted to know if I could take it. It was online because not enough people attended it in person. I could not keep up with the schedule she had listed and failed the quizzes she gave. I even had negative criticism for my essay about The Salem Witch Trials. I hated having her as my professor.
